Speaker 1 (00:01):
Look outside, I can't even see the car.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Look, isn't that that guy?
Speaker 3 (00:07):
It's the Grisly Mountain dude.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
I think Carson's lying about what.
Speaker 4 (00:24):
Hi, I'm miss Jean.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
Join me on a trip to Discovery Mountain, where the
air is clear, clear enough to hear your imagination, and
where every day is an exercise in faith. Join me
for today's expedition in Discovery Mountain. When all you know
(00:50):
about someone or a group of people are a few
of their worst days, it's easy to prejudge them. And
I'm afraid that that's what's been happening in Discovery Mountain
the last week or so.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
But you know, when we take the time to get
to know people, we.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
Often discover that there's a lot more to them than
we first realized. Of course, that first impression isn't always
easy to get past. Cyrus, Brianna and their friends are
about to discover just that, and so is Carson Vermilion.
Carson doesn't realize the bad first impression he made on
(01:30):
the group visiting the Frosty Inn, and he doesn't know
about all the things that they think about his hometown,
Grizzly Mountain. Both groups are about to exercise their faith
like never before. Let's join them for under Sieges. Episode
four called snowed in.
Speaker 6 (01:53):
Mom, Dad, Wake up, Mom, Dad, there's snow everywhere.
Speaker 7 (02:02):
Good morning, sunshine.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Look outside, I can't even see the car.
Speaker 7 (02:07):
Look at that, and the snow is still coming down fast.
Speaker 6 (02:11):
Dad.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Is school canceled?
Speaker 8 (02:14):
Oh hey, Kaziah, yeah, we canceled school last night, snowy.
Speaker 9 (02:20):
Who remember snow days?
Speaker 7 (02:26):
I do? But for some reason, they still expect me
to show up at the hospital.
Speaker 8 (02:32):
I'll go scrape off your car, but those roads don't
look remotely safe. Why don't I walk you to the
hospital instead?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Thanks?
Speaker 7 (02:40):
Oh wait, don't worry about it. Remember Alice and McCready.
She's given me a ride.
Speaker 9 (02:47):
What does she drive?
Speaker 8 (02:48):
A snowplow?
Speaker 10 (02:51):
No?
Speaker 7 (02:52):
Her new horse, Strawberry. She called me last night. She
said he's perfect for the winter weather, and she seemed
pretty excited to be able to help.
Speaker 8 (03:00):
Well, now I'm kind of jealous. I better go downstairs
and check my messages. Make sure all the parents got
the news about the snow day.
Speaker 9 (03:13):
Morning.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Sun morning mom, because I was jumping around, but it's
still dark outside.
Speaker 7 (03:22):
Good morning, Cyrus. Your sister's excited about the snow. We're
all trapped inside and schools canceled.
Speaker 9 (03:28):
But you used to have to go to work, right.
Speaker 7 (03:31):
Yep, missus McCready's giving me a ride.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Teachers get snow days, doctors don't. Maybe I should rethink
my career plans.
Speaker 7 (03:42):
Your father would be so proud if you were a teacher.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
I'll think about it. I was supposed to meet with
Addison during study hall about our Berlin Wall project. Guess
we can just video chat.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
How's the project going?
Speaker 3 (03:54):
It's hard to believe it's real history. All that effort
just to keep people from leaving a city.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
Think about while you help your dad shovel the driveway.
Speaker 9 (04:03):
Fine.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
Meanwhile, over at the Donovan House, Jake and Natasha are
glad for a day off.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Well, good morning, sleepyhead. Someone slept in more like BedHead.
Speaker 11 (04:19):
But I don't have to fix my hair this morning.
Speaker 12 (04:21):
Well, then pull up a chair. Today we're having cereal.
Speaker 11 (04:26):
It's the perfect no pressure breakfast. Whoa, that's snow out
there is just not stopping.
Speaker 9 (04:32):
Isn't it beautiful?
Speaker 13 (04:33):
Though?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Like everything's just clean.
Speaker 11 (04:36):
Yeah, I can't remember the last time we had a
storm like this.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
It's been a while, you know, most of history. You
just have to wait one of these out, or get
some good sled dogs.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
You'd love that, wouldn't you.
Speaker 11 (04:48):
Mush mush Oh, that reminds me. I still have some
creama wheat cereal from my old place. I'll make that
for breakfast.
Speaker 12 (04:57):
Hey, aren't you glad schools out to day early this?
Speaker 9 (05:00):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Hey?
Speaker 14 (05:04):
Did you hear the students talking this week about Grizzly Mountain?
You mean yeah, they're convinced that the Frostyan stole from
Miss Michelle's cafe and something about someone yelling and kicking
rocks in.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
A parking lot.
Speaker 9 (05:17):
Yikes.
Speaker 12 (05:18):
Maybe our next service project should be the Grizzly Mountain.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
I just don't know.
Speaker 11 (05:23):
For some reason, Grizzlies had a bad reputation for years.
As long as I've lived around here, I've never quite
understood the animosity.
Speaker 12 (05:30):
You know, the biggest rivalries can be with the people
closest to us, whether it's the high school across town
or our siblings.
Speaker 11 (05:37):
True, I just want these kids to learn to be
good neighbors.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Who's my neighbor? Now there's the million huckle question.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
He said it, No, someone in the Bible said it first, though.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
You got me Their chaplain Jake.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
As the snow continues to bury Discovery Mountain, two high
school sophomores to side. It's the perfect time to get
some homework done long distance.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
Oh there you are a cyrus. This video chat always
gives me trouble.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
I started to think we never have time to work
on our project. Apparently we just needed to bury the
whole town and snow to make it happen.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Between that trip Sunday to Cobbler's End, which was awesome,
and this essay contest I've been working on and my
piano recital, I've just been so busy.
Speaker 9 (06:29):
That's pretty busy. When's your recital?
Speaker 6 (06:32):
It's in April. I know that's another three months, but
it's a really hard piece.
Speaker 9 (06:36):
Phew. There's a reason I don't play any instruments. I
just don't have the time.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
It's just such a great way to unwind, you know.
Sometimes if I'm stressed, I just play my favorite compositions
until all the stress is gone.
Speaker 10 (06:48):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
And how many hours have you practiced to get that
care free?
Speaker 6 (06:52):
Like in my life?
Speaker 10 (06:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (06:55):
Oh well, since I was about five, a couple hours
a week, so a few thousands.
Speaker 9 (07:02):
Nope, nobody nope, nope, nope.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
I don't need that kind of stress, just to maybe
someday de stress.
Speaker 6 (07:10):
Yeah, huh.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
So Berlin Wall ninety six miles long, designed to keep
people from East Berlin from going to West Berlin, which
for some reason, was completely surrounded by East Germany.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
It gets kind of confusing, but they had guards all
along the wall to keep people from escaping, and they
had it set up so everyone was spying on everyone else.
I know, Cyrus, Sorry, I think you're frozen. Power went out, Cyrus.
Speaker 10 (07:52):
Hey, I'm guessing the powers off at your house too.
Speaker 6 (07:55):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (07:56):
Well, if it doesn't come back on soon, we can put.
Speaker 6 (07:59):
The ice from outside, or you could just eat it.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
The snow kept falling all that day and well into
the next one. Strong winds created white out conditions. How
is everyone managing?
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Mom?
Speaker 9 (08:18):
The power has been out since yesterday morning.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
We've been trapped in here for two days, and I'm
tired of wearing my coat inside.
Speaker 9 (08:26):
I can't charge my computer, I can't charge my phone.
Speaker 7 (08:28):
Well, thankfully we have a landline phone too, which still works.
Speaker 15 (08:32):
Really, I've been extra careful all day because I was
afraid we couldn't call nine one.
Speaker 7 (08:37):
One oh thank you, Becauseyah, and neither of you seem
to have died of any boredom, yet.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
I sustain numerous boredom related injuries. Look at my eyes.
They've glazed over at least twelve times.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
Oh no, let me get my thomoscope. Hold still, Cyrus.
I have good news. It looks like your eyes have
built up enough resistance from repeated exposure to your dad's jokes.
You're going to pull through.
Speaker 9 (09:09):
The lights are on it, the heat's back on. Yes,
good news.
Speaker 8 (09:14):
Everyone. You can help me bring all the food in
from the snow and put it back in the fridge.
Speaker 9 (09:22):
What's that sound.
Speaker 7 (09:24):
That, young man? Is the landline so weird?
Speaker 9 (09:30):
Hello Cyrus, Harold, it's me.
Speaker 10 (09:34):
Somebody knocked over our mailbox.
Speaker 9 (09:36):
Really, that's at least three so far, I know, but because.
Speaker 10 (09:40):
Of the wind, any tracks were blown away.
Speaker 9 (09:43):
H who's doing this?
Speaker 10 (09:45):
It's wild? But Loca's dad is finally taking it seriously.
Hey he's pulling up now. Oh have you got all
the snow tubes inflated?
Speaker 9 (09:54):
Yeah, they're good to go.
Speaker 10 (09:56):
Sweet You going to cross the hill tomorrow? Right?
Speaker 9 (09:58):
Oh? I'll be there. Oh ah, how did it even
have this number?
Speaker 5 (10:08):
Let's see how Harold is doing over at the Pea Bodies.
Speaker 16 (10:12):
Hey, Harold, you're keeping safe in the storm.
Speaker 9 (10:15):
We've used a lot of blankets off, Sir Lewis.
Speaker 16 (10:17):
Well, I'm glad to see the power coming back on
across town. But Harold, I need to ask you a question. Okay,
do you know anything about what's happening with these mailboxes?
Speaker 17 (10:27):
Oh no, sir, I didn't even hear anything this time.
I think it was because it was so windy.
Speaker 16 (10:32):
Whether your dad showed me your security footage, but there
was snow over the lens, so there was nothing to see.
Speaker 9 (10:38):
Oh makes sense.
Speaker 16 (10:40):
Yeah, Well, the truth is it could have just been
the wind at this time. The storm blew down the
trees that knocked all the power out. This could be
a total coincidence.
Speaker 9 (10:49):
Yeah. Well, have a good eving. Yeah you too. Hey,
I think the snow has finally stopped.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
Discovery Mountains finally gotten a break in the weather. Is
it sledding time? We'll find out right after this.

On Sunday afternoon, Crescent Hill, the longest steepest hill in
Discovery Mountain, is alive with activity.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Janet, Miya, you made it.
Speaker 9 (12:44):
I thought I'd never leave my house again.
Speaker 6 (12:46):
I liked being trapped inside.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
It was cozy, cozy. Yeah, I just kind of soaked
up the stillness.
Speaker 20 (12:54):
Hey, my Toboccan's more fun the more people are on it.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
Come on, Janet, should we trust this spoil with our lives?
Speaker 7 (13:01):
Well?
Speaker 5 (13:01):
I want to sit in the back so you can
all cushion my fall if we crash.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
So I stare with this thing.
Speaker 20 (13:09):
Right, Well, if you want to right in front, Harol,
come on this room for you too.
Speaker 9 (13:14):
No way, I'm sending this one out.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Everybody ready, yep?
Speaker 9 (13:19):
Wait, you know how to stare this?
Speaker 13 (13:21):
Right?
Speaker 9 (13:21):
Me up here we go.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Watch out for that.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Hold on, hold on, we're gonna tip over.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
That was amazing.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
Wow, that was fun.
Speaker 20 (13:39):
I can breathe. And I think I lost my hat. Yep,
I lost it.
Speaker 7 (13:45):
Thanks for letting me drive it.
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Your brocan logan sure?
Speaker 6 (13:49):
I think.
Speaker 9 (13:50):
Hey guys, that looked amazing.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
Hey everybody, Adison, you made it.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
How'd you survive?
Speaker 6 (13:57):
Well? I read four books and I practice, I know,
and I just kind of chilled out by the fire.
Speaker 20 (14:02):
You have a fireplace, uh, party at Addison's place afterward, everybody.
Speaker 7 (14:07):
I mean, I've been chilling literally.
Speaker 17 (14:10):
Hey, Sorr should be here any minute. His dad's dropping
him off with his new snow tubes. Oh right, Yeah,
there'll be enough for all of us to go sledding
at once.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
That's gonna be so much fun.
Speaker 6 (14:23):
Ah, there's my hat, my dear Oh Brianna.
Speaker 15 (14:28):
Oh, I thought i'd never get out of my house again.
My mom just wanted to talk and talk and oh
I'm so tired.
Speaker 6 (14:36):
Well, do you want to make some mores later?
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Really?
Speaker 13 (14:40):
Yes?
Speaker 9 (14:41):
Hey, everybody grab a snow tube. It's Cyrus Harold. I
heard your mailbox got hit too, really.
Speaker 17 (14:49):
Yeah, though it could have just been the storm. I
don't think we had the world's sturdiest mailbox.
Speaker 9 (14:55):
There's no security footage. Our camera was all covered up
in snow.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Oh okay, I think we'll get the best and longest
ride if we start from the top of the hill
closest to the school.
Speaker 6 (15:07):
Everybody link up ready, Addison, I'm probably gonna regret this,
aren't I no way, It's a blast worst case scenario,
you just end up barrel rolling across the field. That's
that's not encouraging.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Just hold on to my tube. It's an experience.
Speaker 6 (15:24):
I'm sure it is all right. Let me just fix
my metons. Ready, Mia, ready, ready, Logan, Oh yes, ready here,
ready to roll?
Speaker 17 (15:35):
Ready, Cyrus, yep ready, Brihanna, absolutely.
Speaker 9 (15:39):
Okay, everybody, hold on, Tye.
Speaker 15 (15:41):
Hold on, Janet, I'm spinning, Rihanna, we lost her.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Kay, here comes a bomb.
Speaker 7 (15:51):
Hold on, I'm dizzy.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Hold on, Ads, we're breaking up. Janet, I've got you.
Speaker 9 (16:03):
We'll stopped everyone. Okay. That was amazing, Adison, how.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Do you like it?
Speaker 6 (16:09):
It was wild? Hey, let's do it again.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Oh I thought I was gonna go into orbit.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Right, Anna, I thought we lost you.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Nope.
Speaker 15 (16:19):
I've got stuff to do, cakes to bake, mysteries to solve.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Hey, speaking of mysteries. Look, isn't that that guy?
Speaker 1 (16:29):
The guy from the frosty Inn? Maybe Logan, it is?
Speaker 9 (16:34):
What's happening?
Speaker 1 (16:35):
Look over there, the guy in the jeans and hoodie.
Speaker 9 (16:38):
It's the Grizzly Mountain dude.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
What's he doing over here?
Speaker 9 (16:41):
What's happening?
Speaker 1 (16:42):
It's the dude we saw kicking the rocks in Grizzly Town.
Speaker 9 (16:45):
Hoody dude, Yeah, definitely.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Should we just ignore him?
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I mean, if he can ignore how cold it is?
Speaker 2 (16:53):
Wait, that's the guy you've been talking about.
Speaker 9 (16:56):
Are you sure it's him?
Speaker 1 (16:58):
Trust me, Mia, he made me crushing.
Speaker 6 (17:00):
Well maybe we're supposed to shh, he's.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
Coming our way.
Speaker 9 (17:04):
Does he even know that you saw him before?
Speaker 21 (17:06):
What does it matter? He's a grizzly he's no good. Hey,
how's it going?
Speaker 10 (17:11):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (17:12):
Uh? Hi?
Speaker 20 (17:14):
Just enjoy the best letting hill in our tone?
Speaker 21 (17:17):
You guys from around here? Yeah, you like sledding, It's
all right. I'm ore into snowboarding. My family goes to
a ski resort and Breckenridge every New Year.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
I love Breckinridge. You like that chairlift? I always feel
like I'm gonna fall to my doom.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Oh, it's no big deal. I've seen a lot worse.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
Hey, I'm Addison. We all go to school together. That's
our school right there.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
That's cool. I'm Carson.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
So where where are you from?
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Grizzly Mountain?
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Cool?
Speaker 7 (17:48):
Cool?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
So why are you here in Discovery?
Speaker 21 (17:51):
My friend was supposed to meet me here, but I
don't know what happened to him.
Speaker 9 (17:55):
You've been around here a lot this past week.
Speaker 21 (17:58):
No, I've never been here before in my life. You
sure about that? Yeah, what's your deal?
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Cyrus? Come on?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
I was just wondering we don't get a lot of
people from Grizzly.
Speaker 21 (18:09):
Yeah. I can see why you wouldn't get a lot
of visitors. It's pretty retro here, retro, old fashioned, you know,
quaint you're.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
The ones with the old Frostian diner.
Speaker 21 (18:20):
It's like it's from nineteen fifty two, So just saying
it's a classic.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
The Frostian has some really good cake.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
You've been there?
Speaker 15 (18:30):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Yeah, yeah, we all loved it. You've all been there,
just some of us on a school trip.
Speaker 6 (18:37):
Yeah, we were thinking about making smores later. You could
join us if you want.
Speaker 21 (18:41):
Uh, my friend Rick's gonna be here any minute. I
should probably go where he can find me.
Speaker 9 (18:46):
Do you need to call him?
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Nah, it's cool. I've got a phone. It's probably just
out of signal range here. And the sticks, the sticks?
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Well, how about we go sledding again? Ready, Cyrus?
Speaker 9 (18:58):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
Bye.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Nice to meet you.
Speaker 15 (19:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (19:02):
Sea Carson watched as the group he just met walked off.
He shivered and shoved his hands in his pockets. Then
he tried again to call his friend Rick.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
Come on, Rick, where are you? Pick up your phone?
Speaker 17 (19:23):
Hey?
Speaker 10 (19:23):
Where are you?
Speaker 2 (19:24):
I met that hill in Discovery Mountain you said was
so great, the one into the school. Yes, where are you?
We were gonna meet, dude.
Speaker 6 (19:32):
I'm sorry the car went starts and my dad has
me helping him take it apart.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
I think we've already rotated the tires twice. That makes
no sense.
Speaker 10 (19:41):
It's been nuts.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Oh come on, man, I told you you should have
written with me.
Speaker 10 (19:45):
Does your mom even know you have her car?
Speaker 2 (19:48):
What?
Speaker 10 (19:49):
Uh?
Speaker 21 (19:49):
Yeah, I'm surprised they even have the roadsplot out here.
Speaker 2 (19:52):
This place is Snoozeville, seriously.
Speaker 21 (19:55):
Yeah, the kids are full of themselves, just a bunch
of snooty goodie two sh shoes, if you say so, Yeah,
I do see it.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Rick, Fine, he's as bad as these yahoos.
Speaker 6 (20:10):
Hey are you okay?
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (20:12):
It's just oh, never mind, We've got enough snow tubes
if you want to join. It's really fun.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
I've got my own disc.
Speaker 6 (20:21):
Is your friend coming?
Speaker 9 (20:22):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Something came up? I'm sorry, it's fine.
Speaker 6 (20:27):
So did you drive here?
Speaker 9 (20:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 21 (20:29):
My parents got me a car when I turned sixteen.
They wanted me to get a new one, but I
was like, save the money for my gap year.
Speaker 6 (20:36):
Oh what do you want to do for a gap year?
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Travel? Just get out of town, you know.
Speaker 6 (20:41):
Yeah, that's why I love books. They can take me anywhere.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Seriously, not big on reading, It's fine. I just have
to read so much for school.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
I mean I can see where you want to take
a gap year?
Speaker 21 (20:54):
Well that in twelve months without somebody or another breathing
down my neck. I want to see all I can go,
just over land or water. Yeah, I mean, I love flying,
but it'd be so cool to just take a bus
across some border and have no idea what's on.
Speaker 9 (21:09):
The other side.
Speaker 6 (21:10):
That's awesome. Does your family travel a lot?
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Yeah, a decent amount.
Speaker 21 (21:14):
My dad's always traveling for work, so he's like a
frequent flyer. We're always getting bumped up to first class
and staying at these sweet hotels with his points.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
My dad and I go camping a lot. What's your
favorite place you've been to?
Speaker 10 (21:28):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Favorite?
Speaker 21 (21:29):
Uh? Australia down Under. It's so awesome seeing all the kangaroos.
Speaker 9 (21:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
I really love Yellowstone, except there's a mega volcano there.
That could basically blot out the sun if it ever
goes off again. Really, yep, that's why Yellowstone has half
of the world geysers.
Speaker 9 (21:47):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
