Speaker 1 (00:01):
You guy.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Yourselves are real messier, don't you.

Speaker 3 (00:05):
You're not the boss of me, Lily, Yes i am.
I'm your big sister.

Speaker 4 (00:10):
Aren't you curious? What's going on?

Speaker 5 (00:12):
Well?

Speaker 6 (00:13):
Maybe a little addison.

Speaker 7 (00:23):
I, Miss Jean, Join me on a trip to Discovery Mountain,
where the air is clear, clear enough to hear your imagination,
and where every day is an exercise in faith. Join
me for today's expedition. It's been raining off and on

(00:52):
in Discovery Mountain all day. Well technically it's been more
on than off, and the bad weather is getting on
some people's nerves. Okay, it's getting on a lot of
people's nerves. And over at Discovery Mountain Academy, DS has
had to inform everyone that the playground and soccer field

(01:13):
were too soggy to be safe to play in. And
not only that, the field trip to mister McGhee's Diamond Mine,
well that's been canceled too. The prospect of being stuck
inside all day with nothing fun to look forward to.
It's creating a little chaos. Okay, maybe there's a lot
of chaos, and the chaos is making some people kind

(01:36):
of crabby. Okay, it's making a lot of people grabby,
especially miss Mtasha. Let's visit her classroom and see what's
going on and pray that she finds a way to
weather the storm fast. Here's today's episode called Crabby Classrooms.

Speaker 8 (01:57):
Okay, first, the third graders, I need you to sit
down everyone.

Speaker 9 (02:02):
That means right now.

Speaker 10 (02:05):
Miss Natasha, where did missus Lewis go?

Speaker 8 (02:07):
I already told all of you, Luke, she had to
take Henry to the school nurse.

Speaker 11 (02:12):
So I'm filling in.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Yeah, Luke, she already told us you're not paying attention
as usual.

Speaker 10 (02:18):
And europeing annoying as usual.

Speaker 11 (02:21):
All right, let's not have any bickering.

Speaker 8 (02:24):
Everyone take out a book and we'll have silent reading
time until missus Lewis.

Speaker 11 (02:27):
Gets back, emphasis on silent.

Speaker 9 (02:34):
That's my book, Luke.

Speaker 10 (02:36):
No, it's not, Lily. It was sitting right here on
my desk.

Speaker 9 (02:39):
Because I said it. There's just for a.

Speaker 10 (02:40):
Minute, Well it's mine now.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Oh really, Luke, you're gonna read a book about meteorology?

Speaker 10 (02:47):
Uh sure, I am. Meteors are cool?

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Pah, she shows how much you know. Meteorology has nothing
to do with meteors. It's the study of weather.

Speaker 11 (02:57):
Luke, Lily, I said, silent read.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
Miss Natasha, Luke won't give me my book back.

Speaker 11 (03:04):
Luke, please give Lily her book back.

Speaker 10 (03:06):
You're not the boss of me, Lily.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yes i am. I'm your big sister. But you're twins.
You're the same age.

Speaker 10 (03:14):
Nor's right, Lily, We're the same age.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
I'm eight minutes order and you know it, Luke, Lily,
that's enough, Miss Natasha. One will missus Lewis be back?

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Not soon enough.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
And so what we see in the verse, is that,
Chaplin Jake? Yes, Cyrus, do you have a question about
the Bible verse today?

Speaker 12 (03:40):
Bible verse? Oh? Uh? Is how what we were discussing?

Speaker 13 (03:44):
Daydreaming? Again?

Speaker 6 (03:45):
Cyrus busted.

Speaker 12 (03:48):
I wasn't daydreaming.

Speaker 13 (03:49):
Then what verse was Chaplin Jake talking about?

Speaker 14 (03:52):
I I don't know, but I wasn't daydreaming.

Speaker 6 (03:57):
Sure, Cyrus, I mean.

Speaker 14 (03:59):
I guess I sort of sorry, Chaplain Jake. I was
definitely thinking about something other than Bible. But I have
a legitimate question.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
Okay, what's your question?

Speaker 12 (04:10):
What are they doing out there?

Speaker 6 (04:12):
What is who doing? And we're oh outside.

Speaker 14 (04:16):
Yeah, my dad, reader, mister Simon, and Stan and.

Speaker 15 (04:22):
Diesel too, Diesel where let me see Diesel?

Speaker 16 (04:26):
Stan?

Speaker 17 (04:28):
Oh, there's a German shepherd.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
He's huge.

Speaker 12 (04:32):
Yeah, that Stan's dog, Diesel.

Speaker 17 (04:34):
Diesel looks kind of tough, like a police dog.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Well, Stand's a truck driver and he and Diesel became
a family after they found each other at a truck stop.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Oh that's so sweet. Stan adopted a poor little lost dog.

Speaker 17 (04:48):
Little Diesel's enormous and kind of mean looking.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
Nah, Diesel's not mean. He's very clever.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
In fact, who has it he saved a kid from
drowning in a pool.

Speaker 17 (05:00):
I'll take your word for it, Choppin' Jake. I'm okay
watching him from a distance.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Oh, Carson, Diesel's a good boy.

Speaker 14 (05:07):
But Choppin' Jake, back to my question, what are they
doing out there?

Speaker 6 (05:12):
I have no idea.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
They look pretty serious, like they're arguing about something.

Speaker 17 (05:18):
And that dog doesn't look too happy either.

Speaker 18 (05:20):
I know if I was standing out in that drizzle,
i'd look pretty unhappy too.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Not me.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
I love being outside in.

Speaker 12 (05:26):
The rain, no way. Who wants to be rain soaked
and cold?

Speaker 9 (05:30):
Rainstorms are fun?

Speaker 4 (05:32):
At least they are if you have an umbrella.

Speaker 12 (05:34):
And goloshes and a raincoat and.

Speaker 13 (05:37):
A poncho and waiters too.

Speaker 17 (05:39):
Maybe if we crack the window open. We can hear
what ds and those other guys you're talking about.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Oh yeah, that's a good idea.

Speaker 17 (05:46):
Wait a second, is that dog growling?

Speaker 14 (05:54):
Hey, Garson, don't tell me you're afraid Diesel is gonna
jump through the window?

Speaker 5 (05:59):
What me afraid?

Speaker 12 (06:02):
Of course?

Speaker 6 (06:02):
Not sure, bro, Sure, Let's.

Speaker 7 (06:09):
Heat outside and see if we can figure out what's
going on.

Speaker 19 (06:14):
Come on, mister Simon, back me up on this.

Speaker 20 (06:17):
Well, mister Simon, as mayor, you must know how difficult
it is to get a project like this approved, let
alone get it finished.

Speaker 21 (06:26):
Well, it isn't that difficult.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
I keep telling you. All we gotta do is level
that area over there, put in a few drains, build
a retaining wall.

Speaker 21 (06:36):
Oh is that all? Yeah, no problem, easy peasy.

Speaker 22 (06:41):
Well, well, if you had taken my advice months ago,
Mike and installed a French drain.

Speaker 20 (06:45):
Reader, no one predicted we get this much rain and
there's no budget for it anyway.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
Didn't anyone teach you to say for rainy day, Well,
that rainy day is today?

Speaker 20 (06:57):
Yeah, today, and yesterday and the day before. Trust me,
I noticed.

Speaker 16 (07:02):
Back when I was on the school board, I seem
to remember we had a certain amount of money set
aside in a separate account to use for emergencies.

Speaker 21 (07:12):
Yes, that's right, Well what.

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Kind of emergency are you waiting for? Break open that
piggy bank, and let's get a retaining wall built. See
Diesel agrees with me.

Speaker 20 (07:25):
Your dog is still imagining there's some danger up on
that hill.

Speaker 5 (07:28):
And you're still imagining that this playground's gonna fix itself.

Speaker 16 (07:32):
What all right, gentlemen, let's all just take a deep breath.

Speaker 19 (07:38):
Take a deep breath. That could be dangerous, dangerous.

Speaker 21 (07:42):
How do you mean?

Speaker 22 (07:44):
It's raining harder than ever right now. If we breathe
too deeply, we might drown.

Speaker 16 (07:50):
Well, maybe we should go inside and find some place
dryer to talk.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Oh a little rain never hurt anybody.

Speaker 21 (07:57):
Maybe not, but a lot of rain right.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
Look, dis I'm sorry about coming on so strong, but
when I see a problem, I think it ought to
get fixed, and it ought to get fixed.

Speaker 19 (08:09):
Now I agree with Stan.

Speaker 21 (08:11):
I agree with him too great.

Speaker 5 (08:13):
So what's the hold up?

Speaker 21 (08:15):
What do you want me to do?

Speaker 20 (08:16):
Pass out shovels to the students and say, okay, everybody,
first one to uncover the swing's wins?

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Depends how much do the kids charge per hour.

Speaker 20 (08:27):
Look, I know we need to figure out how to
keep the playground from flooding, but we've.

Speaker 21 (08:32):
Got to be practical. Mike's right. Finally someone agrees with me.

Speaker 22 (08:37):
Hey, we all care about this school, and we're all
trying to find a solution to this problem.

Speaker 21 (08:43):
A practical solution.

Speaker 19 (08:45):
Yes, a practical solution, and I think we.

Speaker 21 (08:51):
That's enough.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
Diesel, whatever's up on that hill isn't going to hurt you.

Speaker 20 (08:55):
Hey, how can you be so sure? We don't even
know what he's growling at. Say, you don't suppose those
mountain lions are back again.

Speaker 16 (09:04):
The ones we had around here last summer.

Speaker 20 (09:06):
Yes, we had to take extra precautions to keep everyone
at summer camp safe.

Speaker 21 (09:11):
Maybe they've come back.

Speaker 16 (09:13):
I haven't heard any reports of mountain lions in this area,
although I suppose it's possible.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
Hm, I don't know how Diesel would react to a
mountain lion.

Speaker 20 (09:24):
Sorry, reader, I'm afraid Diesel's growling distracted us. You were
talking about a practical solution to our flood problem.

Speaker 22 (09:31):
Yes, although if there are mountain lions around, that might
be a bigger problem than a swampy playground.

Speaker 16 (09:37):
Let's just focus on the drainage issues right now.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
Right, okay?

Speaker 19 (09:43):
I think we need a step by step plan.

Speaker 22 (09:46):
Figure out what needs to be done first, and then
figure out how to do it.

Speaker 20 (09:50):
You may break it down into steps and pay for
each step as we go along.

Speaker 19 (09:55):
Exactly.

Speaker 22 (09:56):
We don't need to finish everything all at once, so
we don't need to come up with a huge amount
of money all at once.

Speaker 21 (10:02):
You really think that'll work.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Sure it will. I keep telling you it's not that
complicated to move a little muddy round.

Speaker 20 (10:09):
This is a bigger job than just moving a little
mud around.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Not really. You just need the right equipment and someone
who knows what they're doing. Hmm, someone who knows how
to move mudd a round. Hey, guys, I need to
make a phone call.

Speaker 21 (10:26):
Who are you calling.

Speaker 19 (10:27):
The mud guy?

Speaker 5 (10:29):
Of course, the mud guy, The mudd.

Speaker 7 (10:32):
Guy reader is calling the mud guy. Now do you
remember who that is? We'll keep listening to find out.
We'll be back after this shortbreak.

Speaker 2 (10:45):

Speaker 7 (11:51):
While DS and the others are outside trying to solve
the mud problem, the students in Jake's classroom are trying
to figure out what they're up to.

Speaker 17 (12:01):
Now, what are they doing?

Speaker 12 (12:02):
Readers on his phone?

Speaker 2 (12:04):
All right, everybody, we should get back to our discussion.

Speaker 14 (12:07):
We are chaplain Jake. We're discussing what mister Simon and
the others are doing.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I meant we should get back to our Bible discussion.

Speaker 14 (12:16):
But how were we supposed to focus on Bible when there's
so much distraction outside?

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Yeah, chaplain Jake. Aren't you curious what's going on?

Speaker 6 (12:24):
Well? Maybe a little, Addison, just a little.

Speaker 15 (12:28):
There's four guys and a dog out on the playground
and you're only a little curious.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
Okay, maybe I'm a lot curious.

Speaker 13 (12:35):
I knew it, But we really need.

Speaker 6 (12:38):
To finish today's lesson. Hey, what if you go ask
them me?

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Yeah, you're a teacher, they tell you what's going on.

Speaker 18 (12:45):
And once we have an answer, we can all get
back to thinking about Bible class.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
But but bringing on, it's up.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
It's raining outside.

Speaker 12 (12:53):
Take your umbrella.

Speaker 13 (12:54):
You're not afraid of a little rain, now, are you?
Chaplain Jake?

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Well, wouldn't it be easier and a warmer to just
open the window again so we can hear them talking?

Speaker 12 (13:04):
That won't work?

Speaker 6 (13:05):
Why not?

Speaker 12 (13:06):
Because Carson's afraid of the dog. I told you, I'm
not afraid. You were sure in a hurry to shut
that window.

Speaker 4 (13:13):
He's not wrong.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Oh listen, I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. What
they're talking about.

Speaker 24 (13:19):
My guess is they're trying to figure out what to
do with our playgroundlake.

Speaker 18 (13:23):
Maybe build a dock in a boat launch good one, Brianna,
or maybe readers just checking his weather app see how
much longer it's gonna rain.

Speaker 4 (13:31):
Seems like it's been raining for weeks.

Speaker 6 (13:34):
How much more rain can that playground handle?

Speaker 5 (13:36):
Anyway?

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Well, it hasn't been forty days and forty nights, so
there's nothing to worry about, at least not yet.

Speaker 6 (13:43):
Forty days and forty nights.

Speaker 12 (13:45):
What are you talking about? He's talking about the flood?

Speaker 13 (13:48):
Yeah, Noah, Noah?

Speaker 24 (13:50):
What?

Speaker 3 (13:51):
No?

Speaker 13 (13:51):
Noah? Who not? What?

Speaker 5 (13:53):
What are you guys talking about?

Speaker 12 (13:55):
I told you the flood, the one on the playground, No,
the one in the Bible.

Speaker 6 (14:01):
There's a flood in the Bible.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Finally we're back to talking about the Bible.

Speaker 7 (14:07):
Everyone's just a little distracted in the Bible classroom. How
are things over in the seventh and eighth grade class?
Let's find out.

Speaker 21 (14:17):
Miss Holt.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yes, Harold, is it time for Bible class yet?

Speaker 4 (14:22):
You know it's time for Bible when Chaplin Jake shows up?

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Hope he gets here soon.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Well, I'm glad you like Bible class so much.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
That's not why I asked?

Speaker 4 (14:30):
It's not then, why did you ask?

Speaker 1 (14:34):
I'm just tired of doing my grammar lesson it's boring.

Speaker 15 (14:37):
Oh well, I guess you're just gonna have to be
bored for another ten minutes.

Speaker 6 (14:43):
Sorry, Harold.

Speaker 24 (14:44):
Don't mind, Harold, miss Holt. He's been grumpy ever since
DS announced we wouldn't be going to mister McGee's diamond's
mind today, Jenet.

Speaker 11 (14:52):
None of us were happy about that.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Trust me, Kyler. The teachers weren't happy either.

Speaker 9 (14:58):
They weren't teachers like field trips too.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Field trips are the best part of school.

Speaker 24 (15:05):
Now, that's something we can all agree on.

Speaker 15 (15:08):
But I'm sure you can understand DS's concerns. The Emerald
Lake Mine is up a fairly steep mountain road. It's
really windy, and it isn't even paved all the way.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
But miss Hole, why can't we go just because it's
raining a little?

Speaker 4 (15:21):
It's raining a lot, Harold.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
But we'd be inside the mind, wouldn't we It's not
going to rain in there.

Speaker 15 (15:28):
You're thinking of a different type of mind. Diamonds aren't
in tunnels.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
They're usually mined in deep pits.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Canceling the field trip is the pits.

Speaker 24 (15:36):
I think DS was worried about the road, not whether
we get rained on Harold. That's right, Jenet, Come on,
miss Holt, where's your sense of adventure?

Speaker 6 (15:46):
The road can't be that.

Speaker 15 (15:47):
Bad, maybe not Harold, but it isn't worth the risk.
DS is thinking of the safety of you kids.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
I told you he's related to your dad, Jenet.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Kyler, related to Jenet's dad, Steve Beckman. No, I don't
think so.

Speaker 24 (16:02):
He means they both worry a lot. My dad's always
been kind of a warrior. But ever since we had
that storm last winter.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
The big one where the power went out.

Speaker 10 (16:11):
Yeah, that one.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
That was the best storm ever. No school anyway.

Speaker 24 (16:19):
Ever since then, my dad's been determined to be prepared
for any emergency.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Well, it's good to be prepared, Mishold.

Speaker 24 (16:27):
There's prepared, and then there's prepared.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Prepared with a capital B. Huh more like prepared in
all caps.

Speaker 24 (16:36):
My dad stocked up on bottled water, protein bars, phone chargers,
battery powered radios and let's see what else, Oh, flashlights
and emergency blankets and that's just for our cars.

Speaker 13 (16:50):
And don't forget the kitty litter.

Speaker 24 (16:53):
Kitty litter, don't even ask all right, Well, how about
I ask how Paige eighteen, if your grammar books is
going Yes, Miss Hoult.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Terrible.

Speaker 7 (17:05):
Crabby moods seem to be flooding the school. Let's take
a quick break and maybe everyone will feel better. We'll
find out.
