Speaker 1 (00:01):
This holds this book is wrong?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Oh was there another much side?
Speaker 3 (00:10):
Michael Anthony Smith, You get off that phone right now
and let Joyce handle things.
Speaker 4 (00:15):
Doctor's orders.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
I'm miss Jean. Join me on a trip to Discovery Mountain,
where the air is clear, clear enough to hear your imagination,
and where every day is an exercise in faith. Join
me for today's expedition. It's a new morning and Discovery
(00:53):
Mountain and the rain has finally stopped. The ground is
still soggy, and it's true. Oh there's another storm coming
in just a couple of days. But today the sun
is out. The sunshine is drying up the water. But
will it be enough to dry up their worries too?
The volunteers at Discovery Mountain Academy are already hard at
(01:16):
work this morning, building the retaining wall and cleaning mud
out of missus Lewis's classroom. Let's join them on the
playground right now. In today's episode called Floating.
Speaker 6 (01:27):
Faith, double check the level of those blocks before you
start laying down the next course.
Speaker 7 (01:34):
Okay, mister Harris, Wow, look how much progress you've made
out here. John Harris, You're a miracle worker.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
I haven't done it by myself. You know, Rich and
stand are working as hard as I am.
Speaker 7 (01:47):
And look is that DS driving the bulldozer?
Speaker 6 (01:51):
Yep, and he's doing a great job. This is a
real team effort. I think every parent is helping. And
if they're not building, they're bringing us sandwiches and cookies.
Speaker 7 (02:00):
This town really cares about our school. That's why they
showed up.
Speaker 6 (02:05):
Yeah, and some of them actually know what they're doing.
The mccreadis drove their own excavator over here.
Speaker 7 (02:11):
Does that mean some of the other volunteers don't know
what they're doing.
Speaker 6 (02:15):
Well, if they didn't know anything before, they do. Now
I've been teaching them how to lay block and install rebar.
Speaker 7 (02:22):
You must have started working before the sun was even up.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
Well, thanks to the lights I set up. We've been
working in shifts nearly.
Speaker 7 (02:30):
All night long, all night long.
Speaker 6 (02:32):
We have to if we're gonna get this project done
before the next storm.
Speaker 7 (02:36):
We have a tight deadline, don't we sure do.
Speaker 6 (02:39):
If the walls and drains aren't finished before the next
rainstorm hits, we're in danger of more flooding and mudslides.
But don't worry. If the work keeps up at this pace,
we'll make it.
Speaker 7 (02:49):
Don't worry with another major storm coming.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
Only God can control when the storm hits. We just
need to keep doing our best till then.
Speaker 7 (02:57):
I'd better check in with DS. Please look a little stressed.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
Yeah, Tara checked on him this morning. I think she's
worried about his blood pressure.
Speaker 7 (03:06):
Yes, he's a very conscientious principle. This disaster is weighing
on him. I'll see if I can talk to him.
Speaker 6 (03:15):
Good luck, mister Simon. He's been working non stop.
Speaker 7 (03:19):
All right, John, let me know if you need anything
from me.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
We'll do. Hey, John, have you seen Rich this morning? Ah,
he's over there Stan helping the mccreadies take that drain
his trench.
Speaker 8 (03:31):
That's Jake, not Rich, Jake, but the hat. Rich gave
him one of his mudgey Safari hats last time he
was here.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
So if that's Jake, where's Rich right here? Oh?
Speaker 9 (03:44):
Hey, sorry, guys, I had to go back to Professor's
E's digsite to get my archaeology toolkit.
Speaker 8 (03:50):
Archaeology kit. We're building a wall, not looking for ancient artifacts.
Speaker 9 (03:55):
But we use a lot of the same tools as
construction workers. Look, I've got trout masonry brushes, jag.
Speaker 6 (04:01):
Clamps, well, don't just stand there admiring your fancy toolkit.
Come help me lay another course of blocks.
Speaker 10 (04:08):
Sure thing, boss, Hey Rich, you're still on for an
assembly today, right?
Speaker 11 (04:13):
Yep?
Speaker 6 (04:13):
No worries, DS, no worries.
Speaker 11 (04:18):
If only that were possible.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
After an already long morning of school repairs, the teachers
headed inside to their classes.
Speaker 12 (04:32):
I'm here.
Speaker 13 (04:33):
You're late, chaplain Jake.
Speaker 14 (04:35):
I'll cometrare me up.
Speaker 15 (04:36):
I opened the door just as the bell rang, so
technically I'm on time.
Speaker 16 (04:41):
Why are you so muddy?
Speaker 12 (04:42):
Have you been working on the repairs already this morning?
Speaker 14 (04:45):
Uh huh, I've been out of the playground for.
Speaker 16 (04:47):
Hours, but school just started.
Speaker 15 (04:50):
Well, I've been here since five am, doing my part
to help keep you safe from future mudslides.
Speaker 14 (04:56):
And so has your dad.
Speaker 16 (04:57):
I know I set my alarm, but I just couldn't
get up that early to come and help.
Speaker 17 (05:02):
Well, some of us are used to getting up early
and working hard.
Speaker 18 (05:06):
Cyrus, you should try it sometime.
Speaker 16 (05:08):
Oh, and you should try minding your own business sometime, Cyrus.
Speaker 14 (05:12):
What's gotten moved to you both?
Speaker 18 (05:14):
Nothing, chaplain Jake?
Speaker 19 (05:16):
Sorry, yeah, sorry, Addison say something like what Cyrus and
Brianna's feud began over the story of Noah.
Speaker 12 (05:26):
Weren't you going to ask chaplain Jake why the story
is so important?
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Oh right, uh Chaplain Jake, Yes, Addison.
Speaker 20 (05:35):
I was hoping you could help me with a question
I have about Noah.
Speaker 14 (05:38):
Oh yes, indeedy what you want to know? How long
he was on the arc? What kind of wood he
used to build it?
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Uh?
Speaker 18 (05:44):
No, why is it important?
Speaker 14 (05:46):
Why is the wood he used important?
Speaker 15 (05:49):
I mean, you wouldn't want to use anything too soft,
like pine, It gets matched to bits.
Speaker 18 (05:53):
No no, no, no, no no, like why is the story
itself important?
Speaker 12 (05:57):
What Addison means is does it even matter whether we
lead the story or not?
Speaker 16 (06:02):
Of course it matters.
Speaker 21 (06:04):
Well that's your opinion, Cyrus.
Speaker 14 (06:06):
Well, it's my opinion too, Brianna.
Speaker 17 (06:08):
But I'm a reporter, and reporters look for all the
facts before we form an opinion. I need more proof
before I'll believe there was a flood that supposedly covered
the entire world supposedly.
Speaker 16 (06:20):
Open your eyes, Brianna, there's all kinds of evidence.
Speaker 15 (06:23):
Looking for evidence isn't a bad thing, Brianna told you, Cyrus,
how much evidence would convince you?
Speaker 14 (06:30):
It takes a little faith too.
Speaker 11 (06:31):
You know.
Speaker 15 (06:32):
In fact, Noah is mentioned in the Faith chapter of
the Book of Hebrews.
Speaker 20 (06:36):
He is.
Speaker 14 (06:37):
Yeah, it says by faith.
Speaker 15 (06:39):
Noah, after he was warned about what was not yet seen,
and motivated by godly fear, built an arc to deliver
his family.
Speaker 18 (06:47):
Huh.
Speaker 15 (06:48):
What I mean is that Noah didn't need evidence of
rain before he started building the ark.
Speaker 14 (06:53):
He just believed God's word.
Speaker 18 (06:55):
Didn't The apostle Peter also talk about Noah.
Speaker 14 (06:58):
He did me a and so did Jesus.
Speaker 18 (07:01):
Jesus talked about the flood.
Speaker 15 (07:03):
Yeah, it's in Matthew twenty four, verses thirty seven through
thirty nine.
Speaker 14 (07:08):
Carson, why did you read it for us?
Speaker 12 (07:10):
Okay, let's see. Oh, okay, here it is as the
days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son
of Man will be. For in those days before the flood,
they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage
until the day Noah borded the ark.
Speaker 6 (07:28):
They didn't know.
Speaker 12 (07:29):
Until the flood came and swept them all away.
Speaker 14 (07:32):
See, Jesus believed the flood story was true too. What
better evidence would you need?
Speaker 12 (07:37):
Hey, Addison, I think this will make any difference to Brianna.
Speaker 18 (07:41):
I wish I knew Carson. I really wish I knew.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Well Brianna exercised her faith. We'll have to wait to
find out. Let's see how miss Holt and her class
are managing with the cafeteria as a classroom.
Speaker 22 (07:58):
Miss Holt, how am I supposed to concentrate on English
when the spaghetti they're making for lunch smells so good?
Speaker 20 (08:05):
I guess having class in the cafeteria is pretty distracting, Harold.
Speaker 13 (08:09):
All I could think about was my stomach.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
That's all you ever think about.
Speaker 20 (08:14):
Didn't you like playing hide and go seek here in
the cafeteria yesterday?
Speaker 13 (08:19):
It was okay? I mean, I guess, just okay.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
I had a blast misholt when you let us turn
the tables on their sides to hide behind who was
like a maze?
Speaker 18 (08:29):
I thought it was fun too.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Too bad we had to put everything back so we
could eat lunch.
Speaker 23 (08:34):
Oh great, now I'm hungry too, thanks to bunch. Jenet,
what I do?
Speaker 18 (08:39):
You were talking about eating lunch?
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Kyler? Not you too? Are you always hungry?
Speaker 18 (08:45):
Pretty much?
Speaker 14 (08:46):
All right?
Speaker 18 (08:47):
Everyone?
Speaker 20 (08:48):
I know it's hard not being in our regular classroom.
Speaker 13 (08:51):
Yeah, because it smells like food all the time.
Speaker 18 (08:54):
Do I smell garlic bread. Oh man.
Speaker 20 (08:57):
My point is that while it might make it harder
to focus, it does not have to make it harder
to be nice.
Speaker 18 (09:05):
Is that clear?
Speaker 13 (09:06):
Yes?
Speaker 16 (09:07):
Yes, good.
Speaker 18 (09:09):
Now let's get back to our English literature.
Speaker 13 (09:11):
Lesson.
Speaker 20 (09:12):
You all have a copy of today's story, so let's
start reading.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Misholds. This can't be right.
Speaker 18 (09:19):
Is there a problems in it?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yes, our story. Listen, oh man, tear down thy house
build a ship. No, Whatah tore down his house to
build the ark?
Speaker 18 (09:29):
No, and listen to this part.
Speaker 23 (09:32):
Ten dozen cubits the height of her walls. I provided
her with six decks. But I thought the Bible said
there were three decks.
Speaker 18 (09:42):
There were three decks on the arc.
Speaker 22 (09:44):
Whoa, it says the beast of the field, the wild
creatures of the field, and all the craftsmen I may
go aboard. I boarded the ship and battened up the gate.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
Wait, doesn't the Bible say that God sent the animals
and shut the door of the arc not Noah.
Speaker 13 (10:00):
Yeah, that's what my dad says in discernments.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
This hold this book is wrong. No, it's not.
Speaker 20 (10:10):
But because this is not the story of Noah.
Speaker 18 (10:13):
Wait, look at the title.
Speaker 20 (10:17):
What we're reading is part of the Epic of Gilgamesh,
an ancient Mesopotamian poem.
Speaker 18 (10:23):
Mess So what Mesopotamia?
Speaker 20 (10:27):
This is one of at least two hundred flood stories
from cultures around the world.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
But it's got everything wrong.
Speaker 20 (10:36):
All the other flood stories differ from the Bible's account.
Speaker 18 (10:39):
I'm confused.
Speaker 20 (10:41):
All of the stories are different, but they have enough
similarities to make it clear that they're all talking about
the same event, a big flood that covered the earth.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
So why did we read this if it's different from
the Bible?
Speaker 18 (10:55):
Well, it's part of the curriculum.
Speaker 20 (10:58):
But why Well, it's his st and it shows us
that there are many stories from all around the world
about a man building a boat to escape a flood,
and this is one example.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
So the Epic of Gilga whoever, isn't the only one Gilgamesh.
Speaker 18 (11:15):
No, it's not the only one. Oh, what are some others? Hmm,
let's see.
Speaker 20 (11:21):
Well, my favorite of all the stories is the Hawaiian
flood story.
Speaker 18 (11:25):
What does it say?
Speaker 20 (11:27):
It says that in all the world there was only
one good man left. He built a canoe of a
house on it and filled it with animals.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Know what his name was?
Speaker 18 (11:37):
What it was Nuah sound familiar?
Speaker 22 (11:40):
Noah, these stories have got to be talking about the
Bible flood.
Speaker 20 (11:44):
When you add it to the geological evidence, it's pretty
powerful evidence that the Bible story is true.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Harold, was that your stomach growling?
Speaker 13 (11:56):
Yes, it's powerful evidence. That's time for lunch break.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
It's time for us to have a break too.
Speaker 24 (12:06):

It looks like it's time for another assembly with the
mud guy. Come on, let's find a seat in the gym.
Speaker 21 (13:16):
I wonder what the mud Guy's gonna talk about today.
The geologic column, the logic column.
Speaker 13 (13:22):
What's that?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
It's the geologic column, Luke. It shows all the rock
layers in the ground.
Speaker 18 (13:28):
Rocks have layers.
Speaker 21 (13:30):
He's about to start, and I need to listen.
Speaker 18 (13:33):
Why you're gonna argue with him anyway?
Speaker 21 (13:36):
I have to know what he's saying in order to
prove he's wrong, don't I. But you haven't proven him
wrong yet, have you. Well, today's the day.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
I've got a bunch of books from the library and
I'm prepared to do battle poor mud guy.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
Hello again everyone.
Speaker 9 (13:52):
Yesterday I showed you some pictures of fossils.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, that ick the sword give me nightmares?
Speaker 11 (14:01):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 6 (14:02):
Today's pictures aren't scary, I promise.
Speaker 10 (14:04):
Here's the first one.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
Is that the logic column, Luke it's the geologic column.
Speaker 6 (14:12):
Lily's right.
Speaker 9 (14:13):
This is an example of the geologic column. It shows
all the rock layers you'd pass through if you dug
a hole way down in the ground.
Speaker 21 (14:21):
When I dig holes, I find dirt.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
You just haven't a dug far enough.
Speaker 9 (14:26):
Scientists dig through miles of rock layers, and those layers
show evidence of Noah's flood. How well, look at this
next picture from the Grand Canyon.
Speaker 21 (14:37):
What makes it grand?
Speaker 11 (14:39):
Well?
Speaker 9 (14:39):
The Grand Canyon is a mile d eighteen miles across
in some places, and two hundred and seventy seven miles long.
Speaker 13 (14:49):
It's an unbelievable place to visit.
Speaker 22 (14:51):
Yay Field trip to the Grand Canyon, Harold, Let me
guess it's not in the budget.
Speaker 11 (14:58):
Good answer.
Speaker 9 (14:59):
At the Grand ca Canion, you can see more than
twenty layers of rocks like stacks of pancakes.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Don't talk about pancakes. You'll make Carold hungry again.
Speaker 7 (15:10):
No pancake talk.
Speaker 6 (15:12):
Do you have a batter idea?
Speaker 7 (15:17):
Did my joke fall.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Flat as up? Say pancake?
Speaker 9 (15:23):
Well, getting back to the Grand Canyon, the middle and
top layers are sedimentary rock.
Speaker 21 (15:29):
That means they came from sand and mud.
Speaker 9 (15:32):
Right, and those layers of sand and mud were deposited
by water, lots of water.
Speaker 16 (15:38):
Noah's flood.
Speaker 14 (15:40):
It's the only answer that makes sense.
Speaker 9 (15:42):
We see sedimentary layers laying down by massive amounts of
water everywhere in the world. The same layers show up
on different continents too, so it couldn't have just been
a local flood.
Speaker 12 (15:54):
That doesn't make sense.
Speaker 21 (15:56):
Wait, I've been to the Grand Canyon. Meed too, a ranger.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
It took the Colorado River five million years to carve
the Grand Canyon.
Speaker 9 (16:05):
Cannons don't require millions of years Before In nineteen eighty
we got proof that they can form very quickly.
Speaker 18 (16:12):
What proof?
Speaker 11 (16:13):
Let me get the.
Speaker 12 (16:14):
Next picture ready and I'll show you.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Okay, here we go. Check out this photo.
Speaker 21 (16:21):
It's a volcano and it's erupting.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Did you take that picture? That's way closer than I
ever want to get to a volcano?
Speaker 7 (16:31):
No, no, no, no, I didn't take it.
Speaker 10 (16:33):
I'm not that brave.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
But how does a volcano prove that canyons don't take
millions of years to form?
Speaker 9 (16:41):
Well, this is Mount Saint Helens in Washington State.
Speaker 13 (16:44):
DS is a field trip to Mount Saint Helen's in
the budget.
Speaker 11 (16:47):
I think you know the answer, Harold.
Speaker 9 (16:50):
When Mount Saint Helens erupted in nineteen eighty, it caused
an avalanche of rock and mud and uprooted trees that
was nearly one hundred and fifty feet d.
Speaker 21 (17:00):
What does that have to do with a grand canyon.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
We'll keep listening, lily.
Speaker 9 (17:04):
You see, two years later, Mount Saint Helens erupted again,
causing a huge mudflow.
Speaker 18 (17:10):
Bigger than the one we had, way bigger.
Speaker 9 (17:14):
This new mudflow carved out a brand new canyon that
was one hundred and forty feet deep in a single day.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
In just one day.
Speaker 9 (17:24):
Yeah, it only took a few hours, not millions of years.
And you don't have to travel as far away as
Mount Saint Helen's to find proof that the forces of
nature were much faster than scientists used to think. If
I could take you to Professor's E's late as a
dig site a few miles up the mountain from here,
I could show you some amazing stuff, only a few
(17:44):
miles DS.
Speaker 13 (17:46):
That has to be in the budget.
Speaker 9 (17:48):
Nope, sorry, Harold, Well I guess we'll settle for more pictures.
Speaker 16 (17:54):
Check this one out.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
Hey, what happened?
Speaker 5 (18:02):
Oh no, what did happen. We'll find out after this
short break.

Is anxiety and worry can impact our physical bodies as
well as.

Arrived oh noah, was human just, like Us so i'm sure.
He did it's easy to feel overwhelmed when you're the one.
Speaker 26 (26:35):
In charge.
Speaker 5 (26:36):
THAT'S true i think part of the way we can
exercise our faith when we feel overwhelmed is to remember
that we are not really the ones.
Speaker 27 (26:44):
In charge God is, that's Right and noah had a
lot of work to do to be ready for, The
flood but since he was Doing what god asked him,
to do he could be Confident that god would help
him to.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Accomplish, it well.
Speaker 28 (26:58):
The same is true, for day even if things seem impossible.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
Right, now yes, you, Know listeners if you are, feeling
overwhelmed try exercising your faith By reading matthew chapter nineteen
and verse.
Speaker 26 (27:13):
Twenty, six oh that's one of my. Favorite verses it's.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
Mine too. You know it says, with men this, is
impossible But, with god all things.
Speaker 28 (27:24):
Are possible whatever impossible task you're, dealing with Remember that
god is in charge and he has the perfect plan.
Speaker 26 (27:31):
For you. He does we'll Find out god's plan to
help the school. Next time we'll see you. Back, here then.
