Speaker 2 (01:02):
This morning from this subject, being determined to break the cycle.
Being determined to break the cycle. Papa was a roll
in stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home,
(01:23):
And when he died, all he left us was alone.
Papa was a roll in stone. Wherever he laid his
hat was his home. All he left us was alone aid.
(01:47):
Long before the temptations, brothers and sisters, the children of
Reuben had calls enough to sing about Papa and their
daddy Ruben. The reckless behavior of Ruben is recorded in
Genesis chapter thirty five and verse twenty two. We read
there that while Jacob was living there, Ruben had intercourse
(02:11):
with Billah, his father's concubine. That reckless behavior was followed
up by the rumors, because it says the latter part
of that verse that Jacob soon heard about it, and yet,
brothers and Sisters, it wasn't until Genesis chapter forty nine,
verse three and four that we read about the retribution
(02:33):
of the action. Here is what Jacob tells Ruben while
Jacob is on his death Bear, Ruben, you are my firstborn,
my strength, the child of my vigorous youth.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
You are the first in rank and first in power.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
But you are as unruler as a flood, and you
will be first no longer. For you went to be
with my wife. You defiled my marriage couch. Hang, there's something,
brothers and sisters, reckless behavior, room and then retribution. That's
(03:06):
a cycle, y'all. So oftentimes that happens in our family.
And the only way to break that kind of cycle
is to have repentance in that cycle. I need somebody
to know even this morning, if you are caught up
in some reckless behavior, you don't have to go down
that same pathway to destruction. Because if we confess our sin,
(03:31):
he is faithful and just to forgive us and to
cleanse us of all unrighteousness, the Bible says, and probably
whosoever confesses and forsakes his sin, the Lord will have
mercy on him. And yet, brothers and sisters, hundreds of
years later, when we read in first chronicle Chump de Fire,
(03:53):
what we read is that now no longer is the
stigma just on Rubbnd, but the stigma is on the
tribe itself as lose us.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Of the birthright.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Matter of fact, the tribe is losing out in so
many different ways, brothers and sisters, because along with that
birthright came so many blessings. And yet what we read here,
Judah is going to become the tribe where the ruler,
the Messiah is going to come through.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
And not only is Judah.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Gonna be blessed with Jesus coming through Judah, but even
the tribe of Joseph now is going to receive the
birthright bless him a double honor blessing.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
And so now the tribe is missing out.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
The tribe is losing out some hundreds of years later.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
How do you do it, preacher? How do we do that?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
How do we overcome the stain of sin and the
stigma of someone else's scandal? We overcome the sin and
the shame of the past when we have had those
individuals in our past that have been full of reckless behavior,
(05:11):
and don't act.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Like you ain't got them in your family.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Man.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
One of the things that I did share this week was, look,
don't y'all put y'all family dirt out there on social media?
And wouldn't you know it, I got home last night
and Valerie was showing me something on Facebook. What somebody
was just going off? And everybody else was climbed. I
was chiming in, Yeah, I agree, I hate her too. Look,
(05:37):
we all got it, y'all, And yet how do we
overcome it? How can we be reminded of the past
and not be really bent on repeating the past. How
can we break the cycle? How do we break the cycle? Well,
brothers and sis as I believe y'all have heard me
say it over and over again. Brown, I don't believe
(05:59):
in family only curses. Sometimes folks feel as if our
family has been cursed because it seems as if we
can't get ahead. It seems as if the same stuff
keep happening over and over again.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
I don't believe.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
In family curses, but I do believe in family cycles.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Reason why I don't believe.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
In family curses is because of what the Bible says
in Ezekiel chapter eighteen, verse one through four. Then another
message came to me from the Lord. Why do you
quote this proverb concerning the land of Israel the parents
of eating sour grapes, but their children's mouth pucker at
the taste. As surely as I live, said the Sovereign Lord.
You will not quote this proverb anymore in Israel. For
(06:43):
all people are mine to judge, both parents and children.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Alike, And this is my rule.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
The person who says is the one who will die.
Old brothers and sisters, do you see what the Lord's say?
You don't have to reap what your.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Ancestor have sung, but you will reap what you saw.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
I don't have to give an account for Big Daddy.
I don't have to give an account for what they
did in the path.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Matter of fact, stop holding over my head.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Everything that somebody did in the path. But I am
responsible for my actions right now. And that's what I
want to share with you this morning, Brahm that since
God will judge you on your own actions, be fully
determined to.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Break the cycle. Since God would judge each one of
us on our own action. I believe, brothers and sisters.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
That God is into someone today. You can break the
cycle that is in your family, that cycle of abuse,
that cycle of adultery, the cycle of teenage pregnancy and
marriage in pregnancy out of wit law. You can break
the cycle. You can go to school. You can be
the first one with your degree. You can be the
first one who owns your company in your family.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
You can break.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
The cycle, but you got to be fully determined to
do it. What an indictment on Rubin, brothers and sisters,
in his reckless behavior of what he did to his
own daddy's wife, and y'all thought of scandals just happened today.
(08:29):
And yet, brothers and sisters, although there's an indictment on Ruben,
what I'm blessed about today is the interruption of the tribe,
because the tribe decided that they were going to do something,
and it was so significant until the author of first
Chronicle is going to stop all of the listing of
(08:51):
names to give us a detail account of these individuals
of the tribe of ruben Old brothers and sisters.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
I believe somebody need to say today, that's what I want.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
I want an interruption. I want a divine interruption. I'm
tied and Lord, I want you to make us the
head and not the tail. I want you to put
us out front and not on the back. I want
the Lord to break the cycle in our family.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
So how do I do it? Preach? How do I
do it? Boy?
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Y'all ask such good questions on a Sunday morning. Let
me tell you how you do it. First of all,
you got to prepare for the future. You got to
prepare for the future. They're armed, brothers and sisters. They're armed.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Do you see it? First Chronicles Chumpter five, verse eighteen.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
They're forty four thy seven hundred and sixty capable of
warriors in the armies of ruben Gad and the half
tribe of Mananza. They were all skilled in comeback and
there it is armed with shields, swords and bowls, old brown.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
What's in your arsenal? What's in your arsenal?
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I'm so grateful because the these tribes, and they're the
only tribes that are on the eastern side of Jordan River,
and yet they had sense enough to know that we
need to be armed for battle. We need to make
sure that we have the right kind of stuff in
our arsenal? Do you have weapons this morning? For offense?
They had swords, and they had bows and arrow They
(10:20):
had things, and that was necessary in order to defeat
their enemies. Do you have weapons for offense? Do you
have shields for defense? When they went out to battle,
the Bible said that they had their shields there, they
had protection. They had something that they could put out
in front of them. Do you even have armor for protection?
(10:42):
Have you put on the whole armor? We've already said
that we wrest them not against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world.
And they had armor in order to go out to
fight with. They were armed for battle. Prepare for not
knowing what was going to come, but making sure we
(11:04):
are armed for whatever comes our way. Here's what I
believe God is saying to each one of us today, y'all,
we got to be determined practically. We got to be
determined practically. If we're gonna break the cycle, we gotta
get our stuff together. We gotta get our stuff together.
It's easier to say that we're going to break the
cycle of poverty, but brothers and sisters, I love what
(11:27):
my mama told me, Boy, put something in your head,
because what you put in your head, nobody can take away.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Look, you can.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
You can say all day long, I'm gonna break the
cycle of poverty. But until you put something in your head,
until you learn a skill in your hand, until.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
You practically do something, it will never happen.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
We can say all day long, we're gonna break the
cycle of sickness that's in our family. We're gonna stop
this high blood pressure, We're gonna stop.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
This sugar dive. Be there. But let me tell you something.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
If you don't practically stop pushing back from the table
and stop.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
All of that poking, hall log and all of.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
That stuff, if that cycle will continue, you got the
practically arm nor say I'm for the future, old brothers
and sister. We got to prepare for the future, be
determined practically, but not only be determined practically, prepare for
the future. His second thing, if we've got to break
(12:23):
the cycle, we got the practice for the fight. We
got to practice for the fight. And first chronicles jump
to five verse eighteen. Not only where they are, but
the Bible said they were all skilled in comeback. They're
not only armed, y'all, but they're able. And they are
able because they've been practicing.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
They have been training for the battle. Oh, how do
you do that? How do you do that?
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I believe they train their physical bodies. They train their
physical bodies. If you're going to be skilled, brothers and sister,
you got to be in shape. You can't run out
there and talk about you're about getting ready to fight
and you haven't gotten yourself in physically shape. Now, I'm
a living witness the other Saturday when I ran out
(13:11):
there trying to do something and I wasn't in shape.
I've been aching all week long, putting bandages home. If
the chiropractor, why, because you got to train.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
Your physical bodies. They were trained.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
They trained their physical body but then they trained their
mental minds. If you're gonna go out to battle brothers
and sisters, you got to psych yourself up on the inside.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
You got to be thinking some positive thought.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
You can't go out there already with the defeated mentality.
Oh my goodness, those some big old folks ain't nowhere. No,
you got to pep yourself up and mentally, you got.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
To be prepared for whatever is come. Man, you're waiting.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
But then you got to also they were trained. They
trained their social community. The reason why I say they
trained the social community to because Verse eighteen talks about
the fact they had forty four thousand capable warrior from
the tribes of Ruben Gad and the half tribe of Manasa.
They came together, they were on one court. They recognized,
(14:17):
we're in this thing all by ourselves on this side
of the Jordan River, and so we're gonna have to
work together.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
If we're going to solve problem.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
So if we're gonna break the cycle, y'all, not only
must we be determined practically, but if we're gonna be
fully determined, we got to be determined passionately. We got
to get our seals together. We got to get our
selves together. I believe that the greatest momentum is going
to be when we all come together on one a
(14:51):
court and recognize we can do a whole lot more together,
when we have trained, when we have worked together, when
we have put.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Things on the table.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Matter of fact, brothers, in just our years ago, God
gave me of this illustration that the faith community is
the round table that ought to bring the police and
the government, the business folks and the schools and educate
us together. Let's put the problems on the table and
let's come up with solution. Everybody talking about problem, but
who's talking about some answers and what we can do.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
To solve the problem.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
I'm here to tell you I got excited because laugh
Thursday we had our own round table right there at
the South Campus. It filled my cup and we had
schooled individual law enforcement around the table and we were
coming up with practical ideas. I believe we can make
the change. I believe we can stop the gangs. I
(15:47):
believe that we can do.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Something in our school and turn it around.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
That's what it's gonna take. We got to be passionate
about what the law have called us to do. Anybody
got some dry, anybody got some determination. Thank you, Minister Sheriley,
thank you, Thank God. I need some folks. That's passionate.
I need some folks. That was Saint Preacher.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
I'm all in. God's been too good. God brought us
too far. I'm all in.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
For the solution. Prepare for the future. We got the
practice for the fight. Then here's the third thing we
got to do. If we're gonna be fully determined, y'all,
we got to pray to the Father. You gotta pray
to the Father. They're astuteent y'all. They're stute.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
They are wise enough to cause locor verse tweep.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
They be cried out to God during the battle, and
he ancept their prayer because they trusted in him.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
You got to pray to the Father. Got to pray
to the Father.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Why pray when you seemingly got everything together? Why pray, preacher,
when you got your arsenal full of weapons? Why pray, Preacher,
when you got them multitude of souls forty four thousand deep.
Why pray when you're already on one accord? That's that's
that's a lot within itself. Cause to get four to
(17:10):
fourth our Baptist folks. On one accord, that's a miracle
within itself.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
But why pray? Why pray? Why pray? Well? I believe
they understood something, real simple, y'all. Without God, we have nothing.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
They understood something that when we failed to include God,
when we fail to walk with the Lord, when we
fail to connect spiritually, when we fail to keep on
relying on God, all of our fails will come to nothing.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
All of our plans were failed and come to nothing.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
We got to keep God at the forefront.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Matthew six thirty three was right.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Seek me first, the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, and.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
All of these things shall be added. Unto you.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
We got to pray, y'all. We got to pray. We
got to stay connected to God.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
So how to do that? How to do it? Preach you? Well?
Speaker 2 (18:06):
First of all, remember history? Remember history. Can I tell
you something. The reason why I pray is because I
remember history. I remember what God did yesterday. I remember
what God did for Big Mama. I remember how God
brought them and kept them through the depression.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
And when you remember the past of what God have already.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Done, it gives you even more encouragement to keep on praying.
Remember history, but not only remember history, but praying said
request help, request help. Don't ever get to the point
where you're so big that you can handle it all
by yourself.
Speaker 3 (18:49):
But do like the old doctor, what fatherm I.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Stretch my hand to thee no other help I know.
If thou withdraw yourself.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
From me, whether shall I go? I will lift up.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
My eyes until the heels from which cometh my help,
because all of my help comes from the Lord. Request help.
If y'all asked, ye shall find. If y'all seek, ye
shall find. If you're knocked, the door shall be op
bat request help. Man shall always pray and faint, not
request help. That is power when we request help from
(19:29):
the Lord. Remember history, requests help. But then let me
give you another one. Rely on his hand, Rely on's
his hand, because look what the Bible is going to
tell us Verse twem to two. Many of the high
Christs were killed in the battle. And here it is
because God was fighting against them. People of Reuben and
(19:51):
God and Manasis lived in their land until they were
taken into exile.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
They were able to.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Defeat the people because God had of God.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
What's fighting against their enemies?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I need you to know something Brown that unless God
steps in, unless God get involved, we can't win the
battles of sickness, the battles of cancer, the battles of
enemies and hater.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Coming against her.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
But with the hip of God, no weapon formed against her, we'll.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Be able to prosper.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
When you've got the gracious hand of God, He'll keep
you even through the trouble storms. He'll watch over you
even when you feel as if you have nobody else
to depend on. And lie on the hand of God.
Pray to the Father. Pray to the Father. Simply says,
y'all not only be determined men practically and passionately. We
(20:47):
got to be determined prayerfully. We got to be determined preyfully.
We got to get our spirituality together.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
We got to stay close to God.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Brown, I hope you've already signed up for the twenty
fifth day that we pray. I hope you are jumping
on on Wednesday mornings week land when we are praying.
I hope you are connecting dayly when we are praying.
Because with God, all things are possible, and without the Lord,
nothing is impossible. Prayer steal works, Keep on pray, keep
(21:24):
on praying, keep on praying, and they were fully determined,
fully determined. Now now I wish brothers and sisters. I
wish I could end discernment right there. But in verse
twenty two, something troubled my mind. He said, people are Reuben,
God and Manassas lived in their land. We look at
the last part until they were taken into exile.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Do y'all see that.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
They fight, God gives them victory. They take a great
plunder fifty thousand, two hundred and fifty thousand sheep and
gold two.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Thousand Duncan boy.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
God blessed them with abundance, and then they moved into
the folks places. They were able to live in houses
that they didn't even build. They were drinking from wales
that they didn't have to even dead. They're now, y'all,
reaping from farms that they didn't even help the plant.
And yet the Bible said they only lived there until
(22:30):
they were carried into exile. Here's my last point. Here's
my last point. I call this one Preserve the family.
Preserve the family, y'all, because they're abandoned in the end,
and they are abandoned in the end Verse twenty five
because it says, But these tribes were unfaithful to the
(22:50):
God of their ancestors. They worshiped the gods of the nations.
That God had destroyed.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
What in the world happened?
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Why am the world when God bless us, it doesn't
continue throughout generations behind us. I'm looking at some of y'all,
and I know, y'all, y'all get time. Matter of fact, somebody, Uh,
yesterday we were at the at the cemetery. Somebody, I said,
I listened to you. I listened to your ALREADYO. But
(23:24):
let me tell you something. Let me ask you something.
Let me let me ask you something. Uh Uh did
that stuff really happen to you? You you too young
to know about that kind of whippings that was going on.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Uh Uh. I'm glad I'm old school.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Anybody else, well, now, I ain't gotta ask y'all if
y'all old school, y'all. I'm looking at y'all, y'all old
I'm looking at some folks that remember the outhouse. I'm
looking at folks that remember taking baths in number two tongues.
I'm looking at some folks that went out in the
morning to draw water or out of the system. That
(24:02):
had to go up in order to slap the hogs
that had to go up there in order to milk
the cows. I'm looking for some folks that even before
the sun got up. You got up early that morning
and before we even ate breakfast, we went to the
fields in order to pick before coming back home for breakfast.
(24:24):
Get a look at us now, were living better than
we ever lived before. We got most stuff and we've
ever had before. We driving in cars.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Brothers and sisters.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
I still remember driving in cars that didn't even have
a flow in the back seat, and when we ran
through the water, we had to raise our foot because
the water came up in the cars.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
But looked at how good God has blessed um.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Now, now, why is it that when God bless us,
it doesn't continue on to the generations coming behind us.
Let me tell you the reason why I do Theeronomy
chapter eight. I can just read it right to your
Douteronomy Chapter eight, verse ten. When you have eaten your
feel be sure to praise the Lord your God. You
(25:16):
wonder why I get happy while I keep on dancing
before the Lord for the good lamb.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
He has given you.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
But that is the time to be careful, beware that
in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your
God and disobey his commandments, regulations, and decrees that I'm
giving you today for whom you have become full and prosperous,
and how built find homes to live in. And when
(25:46):
your flocks and hers have become very large, and your
silver and gold have month applied along with everything else.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Be careful, do not become proud at.
Speaker 2 (25:58):
The time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued
you from slavery and the limb of Asia. Do not
forget that he left you through the great and terrifying
the wilderness with this paise and the snakes and scorping
in where it was so hot and dry. He gave
you water from the rock. He fapped you with manner
in the wilderness of food. Unknown to your ancestors. He
(26:21):
did this to humble you and test you for your
own good. He did all of this so that you
would never say to yourself, I have achieved this wealth
with my own strength and energy.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
Remember the Lord your Gods. He is the one who.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Gives your power to be successful in order to fulfill
the covenant He confirmed to your ancestors for with an oath.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
But I'll assure you of this. If you ever forget
the Lord your God and follow.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Certainly be destroyed.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Just the Lord has destroyed of the nations given your path,
you also were beating destroyed.
Speaker 3 (27:06):
If you refuse to obey the Lord your god. Oh Brown,
what a lesson. Don't forgive the Lord. Don't forgive the Lord.
Don't forget where he brought you from. Don't forget how
good he's been for you. Don't ever get besides your set.
Don't forgive the Lord. If it had not been for
(27:28):
the Lord.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
You wouldn't have the degrees, you wouldn't have the corner
office you went on the company. Don't forgive the Lord,
but not only don't forget the Lord, but don't forsake
his laws. Don't forsake his laws. Don't get so full
and arrogant. Don't become so full of pride until you
(27:50):
think that you are above the Lord. Don't forsake his law,
but you better stay on the straighter now. Rob he
walking right, he right, keep holy and being right. Don't
follow other gods, but preserve the family.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
But how do I do that?
Speaker 2 (28:09):
I got to be determined perpetually. I got to be
determined perpetually. In other words, I gotta get my seed together.
I gotta get my children together. I gotta get my
grandchildren together. I gotta keep on reminding them where God
brought us from. I gotta keep on reminding them. It's
(28:30):
not our ability, but it's God's a nontent. It's not
our goodness, but it is God's favor that brought.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
Us this far, that have kept us this way. Brothers
and sisters, we got to be determined perpetually.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
What I love, brothers and sisters, is seeing these generations
that are yet coming up, already trying to imitate. That's
what we need, y'all. These are not the times to
push them away. These are not the time to shun
(38:50):
them or to shame them. But I tell you, anytime
we can have young people in church.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
Celebrate them. We ought to thank God for them.
Speaker 2 (39:06):
We ought to applaud them for all that they are doing.
That demonstrate the Lord the Boy. If you brought your
young folks here this morning, you ought to take them
out and you leave here, let them know you proud
of them, grateful that you still got them in church.
(39:26):
Young people. The favor of God is not automatic. The
blessings of God is not guaranteed to pass on to you.
You're gonna have to do something to earn the blessings
of God. You're gonna have to do something to earn
(39:49):
