Speaker 2 (01:01):
Of God Jeremiah chapter thirty eight and beginning with verse one.
These words are recorded therein from the New Living Translation.
Now on Sheffertaiah, son of Matin, Jedaliam, son of Bashure, Jehokah,
son of Shalemiam, and for sure son of Macalgiam heard
what Jeremiah had been telling the people. He had been saying,
this is what the Lord says. Everyone who stays in
(01:23):
Jerusalem will die from war, fame, and or disease. Those
who surrender to the Babylonians will live. The reward would
be life. They will leave. The Lord also says, the
city of Jerusalem will certainly be handed over to the
army of the King of Babylon, who will capture it.
So these officials went to the king and said, Sir,
this man must die. That kind of talk will undermine
(01:47):
the morale of the few fighting men we have left,
as well as that of all the people. This man
is a trade them. King Zedekiah agreed, all right, He said,
do as you like.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Can't stop you.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
So the officials took Jeremiah from his cell and lured
him by ropes into an empty cistern in the prison yard.
It belonged to Makaijah, a member of the royal family.
There was no water in the cistern, but there was
a thick layer of mud at the bottom, and Jeremiah
sank down into it. But Bad Mcleck the Ethiopian, an
(02:25):
important court official, heard that Jeremiah was in the cistern
at that time, the king was holding court at the
Benjamin Gate, so Badminleck rushed from the palace to speak
with him.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
My lord the.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
King, He said, these men have done a very evil
thing and put.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
In Jeremiah the Prophet into the cistern.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
He will soon die hunger, for almost all the bread
in the city is gone. So the king told Badminlech,
take thirty of my men with you, and pulled Jeremiah
out of the cistern before he dies. So bedmin Let
took the men with him and went to a room
in the palace beneath the treasury, where he found some
(03:10):
old rags and discarded clothing. He carried these to the
cistern and lured them to Jeremiah on a rope.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
He Bedmanlet called.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Down to Jeremiah, put these rags under your armpits to
protect you from the ropes. Then when Jeremiah was ready,
they pulled him out. So Jeremiah was returned to the
courtyard to the guard the palace prison.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Where he remained a man.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I'm gonna just preach it to your hearts this morning
from this subject, be the hero.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Be the hero.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Stuck and sinking, Stuck and sinking, Jeremiah. The prophet needed
a hero. He needed somebody to come to his rescue.
Jeremiah's preaching of Judgment had gotten him into trouble. His
message was simple, but it was on. He was telling
the people surrender to Babylon and live, or stay in
(04:05):
Jerusalem and die. Even when the Babylonians had left Jerusalem
for a little season. In Jeremiah chapter thirty seven and
verse nine, he even said them, this is what the
Lord says.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Do not fool.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yourself into thinking that the Babylonians are gone for good.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
They aren't.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
He wanted them to know that Judgment was coming to Jerusalem.
And there was four government officials who had made up
in their mind that they had had enough of everything
that Jeremiah was saying, and they were going to take
jerem take care of Jeremiah once and for all. They
(04:45):
went to the king, got the king to agree that
Jeremiah deserved death, and then they put Jeremiah into a system.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
The Bible said, no water.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Was there but the thick mud, and he began to
sink down into it. Not only did they just put
them there to sink him to the mud, but according
to Lamentation chump to three and verse fifty two and
fifty three.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
They even threw rocks. Look what Jeremiah said.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
My enemies, whom I have never harmed, hunted me down
like a bird. They threw me into a pit and
dropped stones on me. Their desire was to kill Jeremiah.
And when I thought about Jeremiah and I saw him
standing and sinking in that mud, his predicament reminds me
(05:36):
of so many today.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
You see, there's a lot of folks that are stuck
and sinking.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
They are stuck and sinking jobs, lost businesses, downsides, and.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Stores are closing. They are stuck.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Government at a grid, luck politician so busy pointing fingers
until they're not extending a hand across the aisle. Many people,
I fill them stuck, stuck at home and stuck in
hospitals without visitation, feeling trapped, feeling as if they cannot
move forward. They are uncertain about the future. They are
(06:10):
feeling stuck. Have you ever been there where it seems
as if you can't go forward, you can't go back,
It seems as if you are stuck. And them to
add even insult, now, I'm Jeremiah. I was sinking So
many are sinking into debt, so many are sinking into despair,
sinking into a depression. Many are talking about the whole
(06:34):
effect that quarantine is having on Indi visual people are
stuck and sinking. Is that you today? Do you find
yourself stuck and sinking? Well, I got good news, brothers
and sisters. There is hope, and the hope is in Jesus.
The men have already been sinking that I recommend Jesus
(06:56):
for he is a rescue him. Maybe you're not stuck
in sinking. Maybe you're in the position of betmlect. Things
are going well and yet God's him today.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
I need some more heroes.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
I need some individual who will step outside of their
comfort zone and make a difference in the life of
someone else, who me yes, you you.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
Can do this, and you can do it yourself.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
You can be that hero that can literally save a life,
that can literally lift somebody up, encourage somebody.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
You can make a difference.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
That's one I hanging my hat on this morning that
since heroes come in all shaped, sizes and colors, be
the hero.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Even now, you be the hero.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Heroes are coming in all shapes, size or colors.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Him because verse seven says Ebete molect the Ethiopian here
it was.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
This was a brother who came.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
To Jeremiah's rescue, and he is going to deliver Jeremiah
from the system. He Beetmlett can teach all of us
some lessons this morning, and let me give it to you,
and how to let me go brothers and sister. First
of all, he teaches us, if we're going to be
a hero, we must be concerned. We must be concerned.
I call this our obligation. We must be concerned. Because
(08:23):
you got to understand things were going well for Bedmleek.
We read in verse seven that he's in Ethiopian. He's
an important court official and when he heard that Jeremiah
was in the cistern, he.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Is going to go to work to get him out.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
Now, notice that Ibadminlett had things going well for himself.
He had a stable position, important court official, no doubt,
he was high up on the food chain.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
He had a strong protection.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
The king's army was at his beckoning call, and he
had the protection of the king's army. He even had
significant power. You talk about somebody that had influence. And
when he Batmanleck wanted to get to the king. He
did not have to go through the king's administrative assistance.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
He did not have to.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Send emails, a text message, the Bible's head. He went
directly to the king himself. All brothers and sister, he
had significant power, and yet he recognized God has put
me in disposition for a purpose. Because when he heard
that they had put Jeremiah in the sister knowed Jeremiah.
(09:36):
I didn't get work directly to him. Jeremiah didn't call
him up, didn't tweet him, but when he just something
heard what was going on without.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Even being as he.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Is going to step up to the plat. Can I
tell you somebody something reminded all of us this morning.
We can't wait for the call. We can't wait for
folks to ask, because God is looking for individuals who
will be concerned enough to come to the rescue of others.
And so here's what God the Lord is saying to
(10:10):
us this warning. Don't be selfish, don't be selfish. As
bad as things are, brothers and sisters, everybody is not
having it top. There are some where things are actually
batter and the temptation is to have the mindset evermn
form himself.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
If I did it for myself.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
If I'm making that, surely be an expression off to
be able to make it as well. And if we're
not careful, we'll become selfish to one another. And yet
God is saying, no, I have put you in position
for you to be a blessing to others. If you
still have your job, if you're still making a good
(10:52):
because of overcome, because of oh, because of over time,
if things are going better for you, understand, God has
put you here to be a hero to somebody else.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Why do I see that?
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Second Corinthians, Chapter eight, verse fourteen and fifteen. Look what
Paul is going to say right now, and you have
plenty and can help those who.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Are in need.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Later they will have plenty and can share with you
when you need it. In this way things will be equal,
as the scripture save those who gathered a lot had
nothing left over, and those who.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Gathered only a little had enough.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
You see, in God's economy, he wanted us to help
one another and to be concerned about one another. Thank
you Ben Milekt for being concern for caring for Jeremiah,
for getting outside even though things were going well with you,
to try to be a blessing to somebody else.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Be concerned.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
But if you're going to be a hero, not only
be concerned, but be courageous.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Be courageous.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
I call this our opposition because you got to understand something.
The system in that day and time was broken. It
was broke, brothers and sisterny. They had a wishy washing king,
a weak king. They had politician more interesting in spread
and lies than spread him the truth. People had grown
to a point where they were apathetic and indifferent to
(12:14):
the message that Jeremiah was given out.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
It was a broken system.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
It kind of reminds us of the system that we're
facing today, so broken a lot of times we don't
know what and the questions that are stilled a mountain,
and yet here it is he bed Molek is going
to be courageous enough to overcome all of that. How
did he do it, Preacher, How in the world did
(12:41):
he do it well? First of all, he was intelligent.
He was intelligent. You see, despite what everyone else was saying,
he reasoned within himself that this was not right, and
so he was intelligent enough to think for himself. These
are times, brothers and sisters, we need some intelligent folks.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
We need some folks courageous.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Enough to think for yourself, not to just get all
of your information from from the TV. Brothers and sisters,
but you need to be courageous enough, intelligent enough to
think for yourself. But then he was independent enough to
act on his arm, even him the beginning, brothers and sisters,
without anyone else. He alone is going to go to
(13:24):
the king in order to try to make things right.
He just didn't go along with the other politician. But
he stood for right, even if it meant standing by himself.
You don't know, brothers and sisters. Got to you got
to come to the realization that sometimes I'm gonna have
to be independent. Sometimes I can't go alone to get along,
(13:46):
but I must stand and do what is right and
what is best, what the Lord is leading me to do.
He was courageous enough to be independent, courageous enough to
think for himself. Then he was courageous enough to be
a man of intech. No matter what you see, what
he bet Malet is going to do, he's gonna call it.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
For what it is. He said that what these men
have done, what they have done, is evil.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
It is evil.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Look, we cannot do this. We cannot let this man
die in that system. We cannot let him stop. Todare
this is wrong? Oh, we're living to day in time
now where the lines of blurry.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
But can I remind us when it comes to God, right.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Is still right? Wrong is still wrong? And we must
be willing.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
To call it evil for what it is.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
We must be courageous enough to stand with integrity. And
if nobody else does the right thing, you continue to
do the right thing. Be courageous, be courageous. What that
says is don't be scared. Don't be scared. Don't be scared.
Many ask what would happened to me? And therefore they
do nothing out of fear. Well, preach, I can't help
(15:02):
somebody else. I'm going through myself. I got to save
for myself. What would happen if I run out? What
would happen if I?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Oh, don't be scared.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
But what we ought to be asking is what will
happen to other folks, to the next person if I
don't help? Thank God for the courageous heroes that step
up even in the midst of danger. One example the
perfect example of that. And I love these testimonies. And
there's so many out there, but Paul carry a paramedic
(15:35):
from a roar Colorado when he heard the crime, the
call from New York.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
We've hit hard.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
We need individuals to come and to serve a heap.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
This man went there and build and.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Transported patients, served faithfully three weeks before I'm contracting the
disease and dying himself. And yet he was not scared.
He was courageous in terms of the battle. Or we
got to be concerned. We must be courageous. Thank you
a batmlet for stepping up to the plate. But then
here's the last one. We got to be creative. We
(16:10):
got to be creative. Oftentimes I call this our opportunities
because we wonder how in the world, with everything that
is going on, how can I be a hero? Well,
God is simply saying, just use what you got in
order to make a difference to those around you. I
want you to see the cooperation that he enlisted. He
goes to the king. King was having court. He said,
(16:30):
this is not right, a king, I know you done
say it, that they could do this, but it's not right.
The king is going to change his mind and says, hey,
take thirty of my men and go and pull him out.
He didn't act alone. He didn't act alone. Or when possible,
include others, When when possible, include others. Look, we need
(16:51):
the cooperation of others, even when it comes to making decisions.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Include some other in the multitude of counsel.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
There is safe that there is many churches that are
faced with this holy issue of when should I open up?
Speaker 4 (17:06):
How can I open up?
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Look, develop and reopen him tasks for you need the
cooperation of others as.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
You move forward.
Speaker 2 (17:16):
But not only the cooperation that he enlisted, but the
creativity he existed exhibited.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
He used what he had, He used what he had.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I love the fact that they are going to go
at and in a room beneath the treasury, they found
some old rags and discarded clothing. He took them down
to the cistern and said, hey, Jeremiah, I'm going to
use these in order to how to try to help
pull you up from the pit that you're in. Old
brothers and sisters, what will you use in order to
(17:48):
lift somebody's spirit? What will you use in order to
really encourage somebody's wounded hard? What will you use in
order to lift somebody up? Sometime it's just a smile
that somebody is needing. Sometime, it's just a word thank you.
Ronasha was telling me that even as she went in
to work after hearing the eight o'clock servy right there
(18:09):
and there an opportunity arose where.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
She was able to help somebody else.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
We must be creative, We must use what God has
given us in order to be a blessing to somebody else.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
Be creative, Be creative.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
But then, brothers and sisters, we need to make sure
that we are caring and compassionate like he was.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
He says, put those under your arms so that the
rope won't burn you as he lifted Jeremiah up to safety.
Thank God for compassionate individual Thank God for individuals who
go out of their way in order to make a
difference in the live of someone else.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
And oftentimes it is simply.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
Using what you have to be creative and caring for
one another them. I appreciate to Teresa Rindolph sending this
to me. Boy I got to I got the most
special members.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
In the world. Thank y'all so very much. But I
love this.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
She sent me this testimony concerning Jennie and Larry on.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
This is Teresa Rendolph.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I want to shine the spotlight on Jennis and Larry
Ons and their daughters. My brother died last week, and
Janis was my rock, even with everything she's going through
with her mask on.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
When she came over and helped me while I cried.
She prepared food for us.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Larry checked on us and told us to let them
know if we needed anything.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
Hither him.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Tanika brings us things as well.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
They are true examples of what Christians do for one another.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
My daughter is sick.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Jennis sit things on the porch and calls from her truck,
telling me to look on the push. It may be
as simple as soup, or it may be something that
was hard.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
To come by, such as clinics.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Tis your Jennis calls and she and tell when we're
having a rough day and start praying immediately.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Do you see what I'm saying?
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Brothers and sisters, Look, we all can be creative. We
can use what we have in order to be a
blessing to somebody else, even the old rags and the
discarded clothes.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Be creative, Be creative.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
What God is saying is if we're gonna be a hero, y'all,
we got to be sensible.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Do be sensible.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
Let's open our hearts, let's open our minds, Let's step
outside of our comfort zone. Let's understand that I'm in
this thing now and I've been put in dis position
to be a blessing to somebody else. Maybe this morning.
Maybe this morning, you're like Jeremiah. Maybe you're stuck and
sinking right now. Well, Jeremiah was in such trouble until
(20:49):
the Bible says in Lamentations chapter three that he cried
unto the Lord and ask the Lord. The Lord helped men,
and here's the good news. But when he called all
the name, he said that the waters had gotten over
my head.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
I felt as if this is the end.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
But I called on the name of the Lord from
deep within the pit, and the Lord heard my crime.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Well, I need you to know something this morning.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
If you're stuck and sink, and if you're going down
and it seem as if there is no hope, there
is no encouragement around you. If you feel as if
you're all the Lord, praise be to God, there is hope.
That hope is in Jesus Christ. If you cry out
to God right now, I'm here to tell you Jesus
will come to your rescue. Matter of fact, I love
(21:37):
what Isaiah said that while you're yet called on man,
I will answer, while you're yet on my knees, I
will send this. Aren't you glad that he knows how
to come right on time? Aren't you glad that he
knows whim to come, He knows whim to show up,
and he knows whim to send your way. Thank God
for Jesus hearing our prayer. He heard our prayer, y'all,
(22:01):
because all of us was like Jeremiah. All of us
was stuck in and sink, and all of us was
at that point because the songwriter was right. I was
sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful sure. I
was very deeply stained within. I was sinking to.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
Rise no more.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
But the master of the sea he heard my despairing cry,
and from the waters he lifted me.
Speaker 4 (22:26):
And now safe am I. What was it that lifted you?
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Love lifted me, Love lifted me, And when nothing else
could help, it was love that lifted me.
Speaker 4 (22:37):
How do you know it was love that lifted me?
Speaker 2 (22:39):
Well, for God so loved the world that he gave
his only begotten some Jesus that whosoever believes in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Speaker 4 (22:50):
How do you know it was love?
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Or no greater love has this than a man would
lay down his life for a friend. And one Friday morning,
on an old rugged crossed Jesus leave his life down
for your sin. He laid his life down for my sin.
They stretched him wide, and they hung him high, and
he died, Brothers and sisters.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
He died to pay for our sin.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Vigor.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
He was puried in the grave, But on that third
day he rose with all power in his hand. And
I'm glad that Jesus is our he wrote. I'm glad
that Jesus even now accord him to the pipe, both
that he stands up the right hand of the Father
and him to seize on our behalf.
Speaker 4 (23:34):
Sometimes even when we don't even.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Know what to pray for, the Holy Spirit makes groanings
for us with words that cannot even be uttered.
Speaker 4 (23:43):
Thank God for.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Jesus being our rescue.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
He is a hero.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
He walks with me, he talks with men. He tells
me that I am his home and the shore that
we share as we tear it there none other has
ever known.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
He is my hero.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
He is evil to meet our knees. He can be
offence of protection around Joe. He can be food on
your table. He can be a roof over your head.
He'll meet every one under your knees. He'll even fight
your battle. He'll defend you in the midst of the.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
Heat of the battle.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Thank God, he's our hero.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
But I hear Jesus saying right now that I need
some more ebet elect. I need some more individuals who
will step outside of your comfort zone. In other words,
I put you in position. I kept you on your job.
I gave you the increase in the midst of everything.
I've kept you in good health for you to be
(24:44):
a blessing to somebody else, so that you can lift
up somebody else, so that you can reach way down
and lift somebody up out of their pit, up out
of their system, so that you can let somebody know
that there is that there is hope. Then Jesus and
so go ahead and be the hero. You go ahead
(25:06):
and be the hero. Pick up the prescription for some
sin ya. You be the hero by going grocery shopping.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
For somebody else.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
You be the hero by going.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
And getting tested to make sure you're seen and make
your family is safe. You be the hero by practicing
social distance.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Be the hero.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
I know we're getting on back to business as hsual,
but keep on being the hero by wearing your mask.
Speaker 4 (25:36):
He on being the hero by understanding that I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Do my part to be a blessing to somebody else.
I'm gonna do my part to help somebody else. For
if I can help somebody as I pass along, if
I can share somebody with the word or song, my
living will not be in So be concerned, be courageous,
(26:04):
and be creative. If the midst of it all, yeah,
keep love it, keep heaven, keep witnessing, keep encouraging, keep
going out of your way, keep on trusted.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
Give me the Lord. Be a hero, be a hero.
And when you're a hero.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
According to Jeremiah chapter thirty nine, the Lord told Jeremiah
verse sixteen, I want you to tell a bed molet
