Speaker 1 (00:00):
Times are changing rapidly, and I submit to you that
the times aren't changing.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Well, well, why morally.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
And spiritually have we gotten in the shape that we're in. Well,
the Bible says we're in the shape that we're in
as a society is because we've left God in the
rear view mirror. When a society does that and puts
God in the rear view mirror, they're in for tremendous
and terrible trouble.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
What happens when people willfully and blatantly reject and disregard
the one True God God, Well rest assured, it isn't pretty.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
In this eye.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Opening message from Pastor Jeffshreeve, he highlights the key areas
within a society that God allows to become dark and
dangerous when people in that society reject Jesus Christ. You're
listening to from his Heart with Pastor Jeff Shreeve, and
today's lesson is entitled God in the rear view Mirror,

(01:25):
and it's from the Timely nine message in Times series
called Future Shock. What in the world is going on?
And as we listen today, you may be surprised at
who is standing with us and who is not one reminder.
If you can't listen all the way through today or
listen to part two tomorrow, we hope you'll catch up
when you go to Fromishart dot org and click the

(01:47):
listen tab. Now though, open your Bible if possible, to
the Book of Romans chapter one. Here's Pastor Jeff to
share the consequences of setting up your life so that
you only see God in the rear view mirror.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
You have your Bible, please turn to Romans chapter one.
Romans chapter one. We're in a series called Future Shock.
What in the world is going on? And today we
want to talk about this subject, God in the rear
view Mirror. Some of you will remember the name Bob Dylan.

(02:23):
Bob Dylan was very, very popular way back when he
had a song in nineteen sixty four that was a
big hit. The words of that song said this, gather
around people wherever you roam, and admit that the waters
around you have grown, and accept it that soon you'll
be drenched to the bone. If your time to you

(02:47):
is worth saving, then you better start swimming or you'll
sink like a stone.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
For the times they are a changing, I.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Think all of us would say if the times were
changing in in nineteen sixty four, and they were lots
was going on in nineteen sixty four. How much more
are the times changing today? And I submit to you
that the times aren't changing, Well, we're not getting better

(03:16):
and better as a people and as a society. Now
we're advancing technologically, and that is amazing, all the advancements
that there have been in technology, and those times are
changing rapidly, you know.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I mean once you just.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Get used to Facebook and they come out with Instagram.
You get used to Instagram and they come out with Twitter.
You get used to Twitter, and I don't know what
they have now because I'm just getting used to MySpace and.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Just teasing. I'm on zanga.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
But you know, it just keeps changing so fast, and
you say, okay, well, yeah, it changes fast.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
It's hard to keep up. But that's a good thing.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
How about morally and spiritually, how we're doing on those fronts?
Times are changing rapidly, and we have seen a rise
in rape and sexually transmitted disease, and murder and violent
crime and all sorts of other terrible, horrible things that

(04:19):
we didn't see a whole lot of back some decades ago.
I'm just curious how many in this room would say,
you know, back twenty five thirty years ago, we didn't
really get that concern about locking our doors at night.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Anybody who say that lots of hands.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Go up, It wasn't really a big deal. Hey, I
moved here twelve years ago. And when I moved here
twelve years ago, I came from Houston, and in Houston,
I had a security system at the house because you
needed to have one of those in Houston. I came
to Textar Canada. That was like the furthest thing from
my mind. I have a security system now. When I
came here, I didn't have a gun because I thought

(04:57):
I don't need a gun. I just showed my gun,
you know, I did, just teasing, but I didn't think
I needed a gun.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
I have a gun.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Now because these times they are a change in Well,
why morally and spiritually have we gotten in the shape
that we're in? You know, the Bible tells us in
the Book of Romans, Chapter one. I'll begin reading in
verse eighteen. I encourage you to follow along. Says this,

(05:27):
for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against
all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. Who suppress the truth
and unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is
evident within them. For God made it evidence to them.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
For since the.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Creation of the world, his invisible attributes, his eternal power
and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through
what has been made, so that they are without excuse.
For even though they knew God, now knew him in
terms of knowing about him. Even though they knew about God,

(06:09):
they did not honor him as God or give thanks.
But they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish
heart was darkened. Hey, why are we in the shape
that we're in? Well, the Bible says we're in the
shape that we're in as a society is because we've
left God in the rear view mirror.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
We've said see you later.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
God.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
We don't need you anymore.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
We're on the bigger and better things now. We still
want you God to bless us. We don't want your presence,
We just want your presence pr in however you spell it.
We want the gifts, the things that you give us,
But we don't want.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
You you go away. We just stick you in the
rear view mirror. As a society.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
You me when we reject God and willfully turn not
back on God and say God, we don't want your word,
your will, your ways, those are old and outdated and passe.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well we've moved on.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
When a society does that and puts God in the
rear view mirror, they're in for tremendous and terrible trouble.
I want to share with you four devastating consequences when
in a society says adios to God. Consequence number one,

(07:32):
the people become spiritually darkened.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Look at verse twenty one again, for.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Even though they knew God, they did not honor him
as God or give thanks. But they became futile in
their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Now God says this.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
He says this about every single person who is on
the planet, every single person that He created. That person
is without excuse before God because God made himself evident.
It says in verse nineteen that which is known about
God is evident within them, for God made it evident

(08:11):
to them. Every single person has two voices that speak
to them. There is the inner voice called conscience, and God.
When he creates a person, he puts within that person
a conscience, a moral compass, so to speak, a sense
within them that says, there is a God.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
That's how everybody is made.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
And then not only is there the inner voice of conscience,
then there is the outer voice of creation. And God says,
you're without excuse. I don't care where you live. You
can be some pagan in the backside of nowhere, in
some jungle somewhere. You're without excuse before God. Because God
has given you two voices. He's given you the inner
voice of conscience. He's given you the outer voice of creation.

(08:53):
Now doesn't take a whiz bang to figure out that
if there is a creation, there has to be a creator.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Things just don't happen.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
And we all know that. I mean, you don't have
to be smart to figure that out. I have a
little equation that I want to test you on fundamentals
of math.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Question zero times zero. What do you get?

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Anybody have a different answer? Zero times zero equals zero.
Everybody knows that. Okay, But what do we say in
our world today when we say no to conscience, when
we say no to creation. We have this kind of formula,
and the evolutionists buy into this kind of formula. Nobody

(09:37):
times nothing equals everything. And so many people believe that formula.
How do they believe that? I mean, the Bible makes
it clear. God's given every person a conscience, He's given
every person creation. You go outside and you see the trees,
and you see the grass, and you see the sky,
and you see the sun, and at night you see

(09:57):
the stars and you see the moon. And you have
the audacity to say that with a straight face, that
nobody times nothing equals everything. Come on, that's insane, that's
just stupid and idiotic to believe that. But a man
does believe that because he doesn't want God. And when
you don't want God and you say forget it God,

(10:18):
and I come up with my own plan of how
things came into being, will you become spiritually darkened. They
don't want to honor God. They don't want to give
God glory. That's why we were created Isaiah forty three,
verse seven. If you ever get asked that question, well,
why did God create us in the first place. He
created us Isaiah forty three, verse seven, for his glory,

(10:40):
for his glory. So our job, as created beings before
God is to glorify him. But God says Now when
they society says that He owes to me, they don't
honor me as God, they don't glorify me anymore, and
they don't give me things.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Two things that you need to do every day. This
is just an aside. Two things that every Christian needs
to do every day is wake up.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
In the morning and give God honor and give God
thanks and praise him and worship him that way, because
that's what you are created to do. And God takes
note of those who don't honor him as God or
don't give him thanks. And he said, when you don't
honor me as God, you don't give me thanks, then
you become feudle, literally wicked in your reasoning, and your

(11:23):
foolish heart becomes darkened. The word for dark there is
to cover with darkness. Now when a society says audios
to God, they move from light to darkness.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Well, you're listening to from his heart with Pastor Jeff
Shreeve today, and certainly he has more to say about
this in just a moment, So stay with us for

end is getting closer every day gives many people a
lot of anxiety, but Pastor Jaff wants to offer real
encouragement to you in an insightful and inspiring booklet called

has our good in mind. We have no reason to fear.

greater impact on listeners across America and around the world
who desperately need to hear God's truth. Now, let's get
back to the message today entitled God in the rearview Mirror.

(13:40):
Here again is Pastor Jeff.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
Now, the scripture makes it clear. First John, Chapter one,
verse five. God is light, and in him there is
no darkness at all. So when you're with God, when
you're honoring him as God and glorifying him and giving
him thanks and seeking God, you are walking in the light.
When you say forget you, God, I'm going my own way.

(14:04):
I don't even believe you're true and real anymore, and
you start moving away, a step away from God is
a step not into the light.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
It's a step away from the light.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
And the further that you go away from God, the
further you go into darkness. And as we as a
society move further and further and further away from God,
always wanting him to pay for everything, always wanting him
to continue to give his presence his gifts. Doesn't really
work that way, but that's what we want. Oh God,

(14:36):
bless us, But stay away from us. Just pay the bills, God,
Just keep the storms away.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
God, but we don't want to have anything to do
with you, and we move further and further.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Hey, when you leave the presence of God to go
your own way, you go toward the pig sty, just
like the prodigal son did. That's where it always leads.
You come get away from God. You don't move into
the light. You move away from the light, and you
move into darkness. And he gets darker and darker and darker.
The further away from God that you get spiritually dark.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
And they move from light to darkness, and they.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Move from wisdom to foolishness Verse twenty two. Professing to
be wise, they became fools.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
They think they're wise.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
They think they're so sophisticated, they think they're so smart.
You know, you talk to an evolutionist, Richard Dawkins, the
famed evolutionists and scientists.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Well, he thinks he's so smart.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
You know what God says about him, and he says
it about every atheist. He gives them one half of
two verses in all of the Bible Psal I'm fourteen
to one, Psalm fifty three one. You have the same
statement the fool has said in his heart there is
no God.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
And then God moves on to another subject.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
He just says, hey, if you say there is no God,
you are a fool and professing to be wise, they
became fools. Now in Romans, chapter one, verse twenty two,
the word for fools is the Greek word where we
get our English word moron, and that's literally what God says, hey,
professing to be wise, they became morons. You know, we

(16:19):
live in a world today, in a nation today, and man,
we think we're smart, and we are so.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Dumb. We're just morons.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
And the things that we talk about today that are
being discussed as public policy and things like that, it's
just it's mind boggling how idiotic it is. Did you
know in Minnesota, in the school system in Minnesota, they're
discussing how they need to let transgendered kids, boys who
think they're girls use the girl's locker room in high

(16:52):
school because they say, well, you know, we would really
he thinks he's a girl, you know, and so he
needs to go in there and be with the girls. Well,
you know, the girls don't like that too much. As
you can imagine. I don't imagine many parents like that.
I have three girls. If they were going to a
school where it's like, yeah, I have to get dressed
next to this guy who thinks he's a girl, we
wouldn't go there anymore, right.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
And it's just mind boggling.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
You think, how in the world could someone think this
is a good thing. It's not a good thing. And
back twenty years ago, nobody would have ever thought that.
But these times they are a changing and we're moving
further and further and.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
Deeper and deeper into the darkness.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
And all the while we say, how enlightened we are,
and God says, professing yourselves wise, you become a moron
because you've walked away from me. The fear of the
Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The fear of the
Lord is the beginning of knowledge. But if you say
God doesn't even exist, and if he does exist, I'm
going to create him in my own image, and I

(17:53):
don't want to have anything to do with God anyway.
I'm gonna go do my own thing, Well, then you
don't have wisdom and you don't have knowledge. So you
move from light to darkness, You move from wisdom to foolishness.
And you move from God to idols. Look what it
says in verse twenty three. Professing to be wise, they
became fools and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God

(18:15):
for an image in the form of corruptible man, and
of birds and four footed animals and crawling creatures. And
it says in verse twenty five, for they exchange the
truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served
the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever.
Chris Tomlin has a song that's so true. It says this,

(18:37):
you and I were made for worship. When God made us,
he made us as creatures who are going to worship.
Bob Dylan did have another song where he said, you're
gonna have to serve for somebody. It may be the devil,
or it may be the Lord, but you're gonna have
to serve somebody because you're created with a desire to worship. Now,

(19:00):
the scripture says that when you profess to be wise,
but you become a fool because you leave God in
the rear view mirror, that all of a sudden, your
worship gets distorted and perverted, and you no longer worship
the Creator. You worship the creature, and you trade the
incorruptible God for the form of corruptible man. And men

(19:24):
worship idols. They worship sports stars, they worship business moguls,
they worship people with a lot of money, corruptible man.
And then they worship birds. I mean, birds are pretty cool.
Who can do what an eagle can do?

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Look at that. And so they'll worship of birds. And
then they go from the birds to the four footed animals.
See it keeps going down. And then from four footed
animals they go to crawling creatures.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Did you know in.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Egypt they worshiped the beadle and that was a big
part of their worship, worshiping scarabs beatles.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Well, who in the world would worship a beatle?

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Well, men who have said audios to God, that's where
it goes.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
That's what happens. They changed the worship from God to idols. GK.
Chesterton was quoted as saying this, when.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
People stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
They believe in anything.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
When people stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing,
They believe in anything. Did you know in Old Testament
times there was a group of people. They were the Phoenicians.
The Phoenicians were a seagoing people. They were a very
advanced people in some degree. They gave us the alphabet

(20:41):
and other things like that. They weren't a bunch of
Hoki cave men. But they were very superstitious, and they
were very pagan, and they had many gods that they worshiped,
and they had a god. You talk about the changing
the glory of the incorruptible God and worshiping the incorruptible
God and saying no to that, and you begin to
worship corruptible and birds and animals and crawling creatures. This

(21:02):
is what they found. They saw in their daily life
that sometimes you'd run across a pile of animal dung
on the road, and they said, oh, look, animal dung.
And then they noticed, after a couple of days that
they would see some white worms working their way in
the animal dung. And they were amazed at that, and

(21:25):
they said, look at this. Now, they didn't know that
flies had laid microscopic eggs on that pile of filth.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
All they said was this, look at that. Life comes
from filth.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
And they called that God beels the ball, and they
bowed down and worshiped that God. Bailzibub in the Old
Testament beels the ball in the New Testament.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Can you imagine?

Speaker 1 (21:52):
How could any thinking person worship a pile of dung?
When you reject God, when you say God, I'm not
want to worship you anymore, You're going to worship something.
And even an atheist will worship sex. He'll worship pleasure,
he'll worship money, she'll worship something, because you and I
were made for worship. I saw the documentary with Ben

(22:18):
Stein and he had the atheist on their, Richard Dawkins,
and he was asking rich Sure Dawkins about intelligent design,
and he said, well, from a science point of view,
what about intelligent design? Where the world when you begin
to really study it from a microbiological level, you see
this intelligent design in the universe and how could that
just happen? And he got Dawkins to say this, He said, well,

(22:42):
if there was an intelligent designer, it would have been
some alien.

Speaker 2 (22:47):
Who had also evolved.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
But he would not say that intelligent designer was God,
because God, in his mind doesn't exist. Hey, professing to
be wise, they became, so they've become spiritually darker.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
When a society puts God out of their vision, they
go from spiritual light and wisdom to spiritual darkness and foolishness.
But that's not all that happens. Pastor Jeff will return
tomorrow to outline the further decline of a society that
puts God in the rear view mirror. That's the name
of today's lesson, and it's one of nine in the

(23:26):
