Speaker 1 (00:00):
The scripture talks over and over and over and over
again about the fact that Jesus Christ is going to
come and rule and reign in power and great glory.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It is the most.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Talked about doctrine and all of the Bible, except for
the doctrine of salvation. The doctrine of salvation is spoken
of more than any other doctrine. And on the heels
of that is the doctrine of the second coming of
Jesus Christ.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Now here's the question, are you ready for his coming?
Ready or not?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Here he comes.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Back. In nineteen ninety eight, the movie Armageddon told the
story of a team of astronauts who were willing to
sacrifice their lives for everyone on Earth as they deflected
an asteroid that was on course to destroy our planet. Now,
while that movie was fictional, the Armageddon promised in Revelation
(01:18):
Chapter sixteen will be very, very real. It's the place
where a real war with horrible destruction will one day
really happen. This is from his heart with Pastor Jeff Shreeve,
and thank you for joining us for the next lesson
in his timely nine message series Future Shock. What in
(01:38):
the world is going on? And today the lesson is
entitled Worlds at War a Pastor. So far in this series,
you've taught us a lot of things, including about the rapture,
the Antichrist, and today and tomorrow all about armageddon. We
know that these things are yet to happen. But ultimately,
why are these types of lessons so important to our
(02:00):
everyday life?
Speaker 1 (02:01):
The Bible says, comfort one another with these words. It's
very comforting to know that the Lord is coming back.
It's comforting to know that he at any moment, as
those who believe in the pre tribulation rapture, at any moment,
he could come back, and we could hear the voice
and the shout, and he calls us to himself. And
(02:23):
so that's the Christian's blessed hope, as it says in
Titus chapter two.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
Now, today's lesson is actually the eighth lesson in this series,
and we'll finish out the entire series next week with
the victorious lesson called crown Him King of Kings. Right now,
they'll open your Bible to Revelation chapter nineteen. Here's Pastor
Jeff to begin the message. Today, Worlds at War.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Pastor was preaching a sermon.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
He's preaching on the horrors and the reality of Hell.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
He had a member of his church.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
He was a deacon, Deacon Smith, and he was right
in the middle of the congregation, and he fell asleep
during the sermon, and the Pastor's going on and on
talking about you know, people sing about on the Highway
to Hell and glorify Hell. But he said, Hell is
not a place to be glorified as are a matter
of fact, if there's anyone in this room who wants
(03:18):
to go to Hell, and he pounded the pulpit, let
him stand to his feet right now. Well, when he
pounded the pulpit, Deacon Smith awoke and all he heard
was the phrase, let him stand to his feet right now,
And so he got up and stood. The pastor looked
at him and said, Deacon Smith, do you have any
idea why you are standing?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
He said, no, Pastor, I don't.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
But whatever we're voting for, it looks like you and
I are the only ones for it.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
He was very confused.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Well, we're in a series called Future Shock.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
What in the world is going on?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
And we're looking at the events of today and the
events coming in.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
The near future.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
And today we want to look at one of the
most wonderful, most glorious, most powerful passages in all of Scripture.
It has to do with two main things. There are
simultaneous things. They take place together, and they're very very
confusing to so many people. Although they know about them,
(04:27):
they don't understand them. These two events, the Battle of
Armageddon and the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
The scripture talks.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Over and over and over and over again about the
fact that Jesus Christ is going to come and rule
and reign in power and great glory. It is the
most talked about doctrine and all of the Bible, except
for the doctrine of salvation. The doctrine of salvation is
spoke more than any other doctrine. And on the heels
(05:02):
of that is the doctrine of the second coming.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Of Jesus Christ. Now, the only.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Way to prepare yourself for the second coming of Jesus
Christ is to come to know him through.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Repentance and faith.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
So the doctrine of salvation is what prepares you for
the doctrine of the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
And here's the question, are you ready for his coming?
Ready or not?
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Here he comes, So we want to look at this
great event, the Battle of Armageddon slash, the second coming
of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we want to look
at it in terms of three acts. Think of it
as a drama that is unfolding before you. And if
you went to a play, you'd have act one, Act two,
(05:45):
and act three. So that's how we're going to look
at this great event as a three act drama. So
what happens at the Battle of Armageddon Act one? The
nations will come together to fight against Jerusalem. Zachariah speaks
a lot of the second coming of Jesus Christ. He
(06:07):
says in chapter fourteen, verse two, for I will gather
speaking for the Lord, for I will gather all the
nations against Jerusalem to battle. And then in Zachariah twelve three,
and all the nations of the earth will be gathered
against it. Gathered against Jerusalem is what he is talking about. Now,
(06:28):
the picture is very clear. Anti Christ is in power.
He's in control of everything. He's in control of government,
he's in control of religion. He has the false prophet
that is leading his religious machinery.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
He's in control of all commerce.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
You can't buy or you can't sell without the mark
of the beast six six six, and he is going
to call together the people, the kings of this world,
to the land of Israel to destroy Jerusalem. Revelation sixteen
fourteen says this, for they are demonic spirits performing signs,
(07:11):
who go abroad to the kings of the whole world
to assemble them for battle on the great day of
God the Almighty. And they assembled them at the place
that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. Ar means mount meghedtdo
means slaughter. Armageddon is the mountain of slaughter. That's literally
(07:34):
what it means. But there is no mountain of Armageddon.
There's a valley of Armageddon. There's this at the base
of Mount Carmel. Is this plain called the Valley of Jezreel.
The plain of Esdralon is another.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Name for it.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
That particular valley is fourteen miles wide and twenty miles long.
Holyan once saw that and said, that is the greatest
natural battlefield in the world.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well, the Lord says.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
That there is coming a day when all the kings
and their armies are going to assemble there. And that's
not really where the battle takes place. That's the staging area.
That's where all the participants are going to gather. The
battle is going to take place in Jerusalem and around
the city of Jerusalem.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
Now we've been talking about.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Future events and I want you to be able to
understand what is coming up.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
I am unashamedly a pre tribulation pre millennialist. That means
that I believe in this kind of setup. I believe
that Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose again
from the dead, and fifty days after his resurrection, you
(08:56):
had the day of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit came
to in dwell believers, and that began the day called
the church age. And the church age is the time
that the Lord lives inside. He used to have a
temple for his people, but now he has a people.
Speaker 2 (09:14):
For his temple.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
We talk about going to church, and really New Testament,
the church isn't a building.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
The church is a person.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
It's the persons who put their faith and trust in
Jesus Christ. And so we are living in the church age.
And the end of the church age is when the
Lord comes back in the clouds for his church.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
We know that as the rapture spoken.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Of in John chapter fourteen, in One Corinthians chapter fifteen,
and in First Thessalonians chapter four.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Now, there is a thing.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
That we have talked about in this series called Daniel's
seventieth week.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
The Lord gave the prophet.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Daniel a vision of what was going to come in
the future, and he told him, seventy weeks have been
appointed for your people, literally seventy sevens Now, when we
think of a week, we think of a week of days.
But the Lord wasn't talking about a week of days.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
He was talking about a week of years.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
So he gave Daniel an outline of four hundred and ninety.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Years for the Jews.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
And we know from reading Daniel chapter nine that there
is a break in the consecutive nature of the seventy weeks.
You go all the way up until the sixty ninth week,
and then there's a break. It makes it clear that
at the sixty ninth week, the Messiah, the Prince will
be executed and crucified, and then there is this break.
The break is the church age, and that is not
(10:42):
decreed for the Jews. That doesn't have really anything to
do that is Jews. God puts the Jews on hold,
and he begins to deal with the gentiles, and gentiles
are the ones primarily, as we know, who come to
Christ during this age.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
It's a wonderful thing when you meet a.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Jewish Christian, but there aren't that many Jewish Christians.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Well.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
At the rapture.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Then the Lord takes those who believe in him, takes
them home to heaven, and then Antichrist comes to power,
and we read about that in Revelation chapter six.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
There comes a king on.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
A white horse, has a bow, but he has no arrows,
and he comes and he conquers, and he takes over,
and he makes a treaty with Israel, and that begins
the last week of Daniel's seventieth week Daniel nine twenty seven.
That says that he makes a covenant with the Many
(11:36):
for one week for a seven year period of time.
That starts the seventieth week of Daniel's prophecy. And in
that time period of those seven years, that's seventieth week,
the Lord is pouring out his wrath, and you have
seals of wrath and trumpets of wrath and bulls of wrath.
But something happens in that seven year period of time.
(11:59):
There's a break at the midpoint, and that is when
the devil sets himself up in the Temple of God. See,
he allows the Jews to rebuild the temple, and they
rebuild their temple and they begin their their sacrifices again,
and they seem to think that everything is wonderful. This
guy is great. He has created peace in the Middle East.
(12:19):
But at the midpoint of the tribulation period, the Antichrist
comes into the temple and he says, no more are
you going to make sacrifices to anyone but me, because
I am God. And that starts a whole new realm
in this tribulation period. And at the abomination of desolation,
(12:39):
which is the abominable One coming into the temple to
make desolate, you have the start of sixty sixty six.
And the Antichrist now is destroying anybody who doesn't get
the mark of the Beast. The six sixty six and
this last three and a half years is called the
Great Tribulation. And at the end of the Great Tribulation,
(12:59):
they are all gather in Meguetdo to do battle against
j Jerusalem, to wipe Jerusalem once and for.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
All off of the map.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
And that sets the stage for the Battle of Armageddon
and the return of Christ. Now, why is it so
important for the devil to destroy Jerusalem? I mean, Jerusalem
is like, what's the big deal about that city.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
That's God's city.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
That's the place where the Lord has made promises to
that city. Jerusalem is called the City of Peace, the
City of the Great King, and that's the place.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
That God desired.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
And so the devil knows that if he can destroy
that place and destroy the Jewish people, that the promises
God made to the Jewish people, the promises God made
concerning that place, they can't come to pass. And so
if the devil can destroy Jerusalem and destroy the Jews,
then God's promises be fulfilled. And then God would be
(14:02):
a promise breaker. We sing that song promise Keeper. Well,
God wouldn't be able to keep his promise. God would
be a promised breaker. God would be a welcher. God
would be a liar, and the devil would win. And
so that is the scene and the setup in Act one,
Act two, the heavens will open and Jesus Christ will return.
(14:27):
Look at Revelation chapter nineteen. I'll begin reading in verse eleven,
John says this, and I saw heaven opened, and behold
a white horse. And he who sat upon it is
called faithful and true, and in righteousness. He judges and
wages war. And his eyes are a flame of fire.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
And upon his head are many diadems. And he has a.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Name written upon him, which no one knows except himself.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Some have asked, what's the name? No one knows, Let's
move on.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
And he has clothed with a robe dipped in blood,
and his name is called the Word of God. He's
obviously speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ. You know, John
was the revelator. He was the one who is receiving
the revelation of Jesus Christ. John is also the man
who wrote the Gospel of John. And you remember how
(15:20):
he begins the Gospel of John speaking of Jesus. In
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
He was in the beginning with God.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
John loved that designation of Jesus as the Word of God,
and he says in John chapter one and verse fourteen,
and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Well,
now here is the return of the Word of God,
riding a white horse, and he is called faithful and true.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
I love that here's the devil trying to destroy Jerusalem and.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
The people, so that Jesus Christ his promises can't come true,
so that he would be a welcher, and he would
be a liar, and he would be a promise breaker.
And here comes the Lord at the ninth hour, when
everything seems all hope seems lost, and Jerusalem is totally
surrounded and besieged by enemies, and they're just the light
is getting ready to be extinguished on the Lord's people
(16:14):
and the Lord's promise at just that moment. The Bible
says this, that the the sun and the moon and
the stars they quit giving their light, and it turns
pitch black, and there comes a blazing light, and the Lord,
Jesus Christ returns and he, the Bible says, sets his
(16:39):
feet on the Mount of Olives, and that is going
to be one day covered in armies, armies, armies all
around this, and Jesus comes back to the Mount of Olives.
The Bible says in Ezekiel that when the Lord comes back,
he comes back through the Eastern gate.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
That has been walled up for centuries.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Suliman the Magnificent, the Muslim.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
He heard about the.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Prophecy that Messiah was gonna come through the Eastern Gate,
and he said.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
No, he's not on my watch.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
We're gonna wall that up and break that up.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
But you know what's so cool in.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
The Bible, you have three psalms Psalm twenty two, some
twenty three, M twenty four.
Speaker 2 (17:20):
Psalm twenty two is the psalm that speaks of Jesus'
death on the cross.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Jesus quoted from Psalm twenty two, verse one, when he
was dying on the cross, and he said, my God,
my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Speaker 2 (17:34):
That's Psalm twenty two verse one.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
That is the picture of the good shepherd who.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Lays down his life for his sheep.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
And it talks all about crucifixion in Psalm twenty two,
way before crucifixion was even invented. And then you come
to Psalm twenty three, a favorite psalm of so many.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
That's the picture of the great shepherd who leads his sheep.
The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Psalm twenty two.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
The great shepherd, he leads his feet sheep and feeds
his sheep and protects his sheep. And then you come
to Psalm twenty four. And Psalm twenty four has to
do with the chief shepherd. And the question is asked
in Psalm twenty four about the glory of God, and
it says, lift up your heads o gates, and be
(18:23):
lifted up o ancient doors, that the.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
King of Glory may come in. And he says, who
is the King of.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
Glory, The Lord's strong and mighty, the Lord of ho
He is the King of Glory.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
And he comes in the eastern gate.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
And that which has been bricked up for centuries and centuries,
it lifts up its gates to welcome the King of Glory.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
So exciting, I get excited about it. I'm not gonna apologize.
He is faithful and true to keep his promises.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Now, when Jesus Christ ascended from Earth after forty days
after his resurrection, he was on the Mount of Olives
at the same place Zachariah says that.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
He's gonna come back to he sets his feet on
the Mount of Olives.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
So he ascended from the Mount of Olives forty days
after his resurrection, before the Holy Spirit came, and his
followers were watching him as he ascended into heaven out
of their sight, and they were standing there just looking.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Up at the sky.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
And it says in Acts one to eleven that two
angels came and said, men of Galilee, why do you
stand here looking into the sky. This same Jesus who
has been taken from you into heaven will come back
in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.
This very same Jesus, he's coming back. He's faithful and true,
(19:46):
and he does come back, and he comes back to
that very spot and plants his feet on the Mount
of Olives at the Battle of Armageddon. He will return.
And it says that he has many diadems. His eyes
are a flame of fire, which means he sees through
all the bologna. He sees, not as man sees. Man
(20:08):
sees outward appearance. But God looks at the heart. And
you can't deceive him because he has an eye, eyes
that are filled with fire.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
That burns through all of the facade.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
And he in righteousness he comes, and he judges and
wages war, and on his head are many diadems.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Why is that?
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Because he's king of kings, and Lord of lords, and
he has a name written which no one knows. What
does that speak of? That speaks of this that even
though you can know the Lord, you can never know
everything about the Lord because he's God, because he's unfathomable.
And so even in glory, I don't believe we're going
(20:51):
to fully know everything about God because he's just too unfathomable.
And that's wonderful thing to have a God that we serve,
who is that vast and that great, a God who
is knowable, yet there are.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Aspects of him that are unknowable. He has a name
nobody knows except himself.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
And it says in verse thirteen he is clothed with
a robe dipped in blood. People have wondered, well, robe
dipped in blood? Whose blood? Does that speak of his blood?
That he died on the cross and he's wearing blood
soaked garments that were from his cross.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
No, I don't think that's what it talks about. See
when the.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Lord comes back at the Battle of Armageddon in righteousness,
he judges and wages war.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
He comes back as a warrior.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Now we know Jesus from the Gospels as the Lamb
of God who takes away the sin of the world.
Sweet loving Jesus, meek and mild Jesus, the one who
has led away as a lamb to the shearers, to
the slaughter, and never utters a word. He came the
first time that way, he doesn't come the second time
(22:06):
that way. He doesn't come as a lamb. He comes
as the lion of the tribe of Judah, and he
puts on his war clothes. He is Yahweh Sabbath, the
lord of angel armies. And in verse thirteen, you have
a reference Isaiah sixty three, verses one through six that
(22:27):
speaks of Messiah returning in and he's wearing blood stained clothing,
and the question is asked, well, why are your clothes
blood stain? He said, because I have trodden the wine
press alone, and the stains of blood are upon my garments.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
He comes to wage war.
Speaker 4 (22:55):
