Hello, and welcome to another edition of the GEB America Podcast.
I'm your host Stephen Gunn with me today as a
special new friend role hosting Simon's and we met at
the NRB conference in the Dallas area and Great Vine specifically,
and it was such a pleasure and we're so glad
to have you on the podcast.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
April, I'm so delighted to be here.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
It was so great meeting you guys, and y'all do
an amazing job. Love your podcast, so I'm excited and
honored to be here.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, thank you so much. Awesome it was. It was
a very good lot of a lot of good contexts
there at the when I'm at context, I mean, I'm
a people person, so I love getting to just say
hi to people and meet people and connect. So how
was what was your experience in the in the environment there.
Speaker 5 (01:32):
You know what I'd never been It was a huge
I've never seen so many people walking around with badges
and so that was fun.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
But it was just great. I mean a lot of
great people.
Speaker 5 (01:45):
It's just a lot of wonderful people there, and I
enjoyed getting to interact with people that sometimes I see
you on podcasts or TV, and uh.
Speaker 4 (01:52):
It was just a fun time.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
It is. It has been very good, awesome, very good.
Well let's see here. So I I was just beginning
to meet you recently. I'm excited about kind of getting
to hear your story a little bit more.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
So.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
You've been your speaker, your writer, tried get to travel
around and do things. How did God kind of bring
you into this season of this writing and speaking opportunities
for you?
Speaker 5 (02:16):
Well, I think it's kind of evolved since I was little.
I grew up in a pastor's family, grew up in
church actually have a good side of the preacher's kids story.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
I loved this, and yay, there's some of us out there,
so it was great. And I always kind of thought that,
you know, I might do something like this.
Speaker 5 (02:37):
I didn't know exactly what it was, but my parents
kind of instilled us at an early age that you
can get up in front of people. And I was
shy as shy could be, and I just did it.
But my dad, early on when I was a teenager,
taught me to get up on the stage the platform
in front of eight thousand people and take an offering
this is funny, or make an announcement. Was so bad,
(02:59):
But when I got off that platform, he'd say that
was the best I've ever heard all.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
He just encouraged me in it.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
And after my kids grew a little bit, I have
five kids that I just have always loved enjoying. I
call myself a hope dealer, hope coach, and I just
love giving hope backed by the Word of God, because
hope has a name, and it's Jesus Christ. And I
like to say, Steven that I come from a long
(03:26):
line of hope givers and I'm just carrying on the tradition,
and I couldn't love what I do anymore. And I'm
so grateful and honored that I get.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
To do it.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
That's so great, and I just go and give honor.
You know, I grew up actually listening to some of
your dad's messages, and I really really enjoyed his teachings
and just to just it does bring up good, good
memories for sure, to think back some of those really
good messages back, you know, probably for me, I think
I heard those probably in the early nineties, my guess
you know that time. So anyway, I love that you
(03:58):
grew up that legacy of that, and you guys talk
about that, What does that look like for you in
terms of carrying on not so much a name, but
so much and passion and purpose into what you've guts
put you into. Now, what does that look like for
you on on a week to week basis?
Speaker 5 (04:13):
I think, you know, I like to say this, Inheritance
is what you live to someone, but legacy is what
you leave in someone. And I feel like what's been
left in me and my brothers and sisters is just
to continue that line of hope, that line of miracles,
you know, you can't tap me out of a miracle.
I've seen it with my own life mine and I
(04:35):
saw my mom go from being given up to a
few weeks to live to be filed. It wasn't an
overnight thing, but I saw it, yes, And so I
when I pray for someone, not that I have great power.
We all have the same great name on the inside
of us. But you know it just I know God
can do it. I've seen him do it, seen him
(04:56):
do it for her and many others. So I feel
like that legacy of faith is kind of in there,
because you know, when you see a miracle, I mean,
you can't deny it. And so I see a faith,
that legacy of hope. It just I just I just
see it kind of strung along in our family. And
you know, I picked up one of my dad's books
the other day, and I never read his books, you know,
(05:17):
and he's been gone for twenty six years, but as
a kid, you don't really well, I didn't read my
dad's books, but I realized, I thought, I do this.
He has books of declarations and just hope filled stories
of God. And it's what I do and my siblings do.
And that's that legacy, just weaving it in. You know,
(05:38):
we're optimist because God's word is optimistic, you know. Really, Yeah,
that's just kind of where it stands for with me.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
That's great. That's great. Now, tell me a little bit
about your latest book. What what is there? Is there
one recently published? I can't remember how the timing of
is it coming out soon? Where we are book?
Speaker 5 (05:56):
My next book is coming out next year sometime. The
time is up in the air, so I can't give
you a tole of it yet.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
But that's fine, that's fair. That's fair.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
Spring.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
And my last book that came out a year or
two ago is called Better Than Ever, and it's just
about getting your happy back, stressing less and enjoying everyday life.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
That's good. And we'll we'll put a link in there
for those who want to maybe catch you know, find
out a way to get the copy of that online
or whatever. So with uh, with your chance to speak,
what are some of the what are some of your
favorite I guess key points or key message if you
if you kind of had you said hope Dealer, which
I think is excellent. What is your kind of your
(06:36):
maybe your core core message right now? Do you feel
like God's kind of put on your heart for people
right now.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
You know, I believe my one of my basic my
foundational scriptures is John Tintin Jesus the Enemy comes, is
still kill and destroy that. Jesus said, I've come to
give you life and life more abundantly. And so my
core thing is, don't get God mixed up.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
With the devil. You know it's killing or destroying that's
not from God.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
And God wants to still live this abundant life and
the Amplified says overflowing life.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
So what does that look like? What is that? Is
that a lack?
Speaker 5 (07:09):
Is that a victim mentality? And if you're in that place,
it's okay because we can all grow and become better.
And I like Stephen to say this.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
You know, sometimes people say, well, I didn't come from
that background. I didn't come from knowing God.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
I came from you know, a house that you know
was in disarray and chaos.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Listen, everybody's got a little dysfunction in their house. Don't worry.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Sure, this is.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
The great news with God.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
This is the hope that just because you didn't come
from a healthy family doesn't mean a healthy family can't
come from you. And so that's on the basis none
of us have been you know, God didn't look at
any of us and say, well, you've.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Messed up too much. You know, you have plans d
for your life. Thank God, this is imperfect people. So
I think that's the crux of my story.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
God wants to use this right now where we are
and where we are is not where we're destined to be.
And if we can just really believe God is who
he says he is, he can do what his word
says he can do, and that we are who he
says we are, man, we can get to that abundant
life that He's promised us for, not just for us,
but for our family because the scripture says one hundred
(08:15):
his faithfulness is.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
From generation to generation. So I'm just alve boud.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
Let's latch on to that faithfulness of God and let's
just live that abundant life.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
That's good, I know. I think that is so crucial.
I feel like there are probably so many people out there,
you know, even listening to our voices in the conversation
that I think the identity is maybe the biggest you know, thief.
The enemy comes in to steal is who who we are.
And one of the things for me that has been
super helpful in my walk with go with God has
(08:46):
been to know who I am. I also remember whose
I am, Yes, And I think that that is so
crucial in the foundation knowing that you know, my story
real quick is that I lost my dad at twenty
two and you know, the God God came in super
naturally in a way of putting people in my life
to just mentor me and pour into me as a son,
(09:07):
you know and his father figures and so which pushed
me not away but towards leaning into God as my father.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Right.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
And so you know, your dad's been gone, what twenty
six years? Things for me, it's twenty three. It'll be
coming up in twenty three years here and this may
for me and so like you know, when we walk
that out are we have great legacy, as you mentioned,
great stories and things to look back on our earthly father.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
Right.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Even more so was what's what's that replica of or
a mirror if you will, of what the image of
God the Father is? And so I think that's super crucial.
So what what would you say to somebody maybe who's
that the identity structure that struggle. They're kind of really
trying to find that out.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
First of all, I think the main thing is you
got to get in God's words. So you know what
his word says about you, and I can tell you
some things. He says, you're a masterpiece. He says you're
an original, You're one of a kind. He says his
mercies are new every morning. Learning that you are a
child of him. If you have him in your heart,
and he says you're loved, he'll never leave you, He'll
(10:07):
never forsake you. So I think sometimes what we get
wrapped up in and all of us do this, we
keep reminding God of what he's already forgotten.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
So in other.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Words, you know, maybe messed up like all of us
have messed up, and you just don't think maybe maybe
they didn't have a father like us that forgave and
was kind of drew them into God. God is not
a bad god. He's not in heaven waiting for you
to mess up. He said, hey, you confess your sins,
and you know what, then don't keep reminding me of him.
(10:39):
I've forgotten it. It says as far as that he
says from the West, so far you know, your sins,
I won't remember anymore. So we got to get out
of that mindset and change the narrative and stop telling
God who we used to be and start thanking him
for who he says we are. And that's the power
of declaration. That's my next book coming up, The power
of that declaration over your life. It's not just wishful thinking.
(11:03):
It's bagged by the Word of God. It's God we are.
So if you're that way and you don't know who
you are, or you feel like you're you know, you're
just not worthy. You just got to change that. You
just got to realize what that shows me. And we've
all been there. You don't know really who God is.
And if you just let him in and you go
into the Word of God and say, God, show me,
(11:23):
holy spirits, speak to me, show me who I am,
he will, and man, it'll change your life for the better.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Amen. You know, I think that you made me think
of another part. I think a key factor in that
phase of post college and just that, you know, wrestling
with that whole light you know again, great foundation, great
early phase for me, you know, and I really struggle
with that. But in terms of like now when being
an adult and all kinds of things was the character
of nature? Right, look into the character of nature through
(11:50):
the stories of the Bible. If you want to know
who God is, look at look at how he treated people,
look at how he you know, his people, And I
think that is that is where you see who he
is through the stories from the Old Testament to New Testament,
all the way through that, and and then that tells
the story of going, Okay, well, this is really who
he is, and that he calls me his son and
(12:11):
his daughter son or daughter not both. You know that
that that that is that is who I can accept. Right,
he already accepted me. But I've got to accept that
and go exactly not by my marriage, not by who
I am or who you know, how great or not
great I am, but by how great he is.
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Exactly. This is so good.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
And I think we've got to remember this that God
doesn't pick people the way people pick people. That's right,
perfectly imperfect people. So that qualifies all of us. And
thank God for that.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
Yeah, he doesn't have a Christian draft where he goes Okay,
let's see that's for this and be good.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
Yes, so true.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
So tell me about this so you as we've kind
of gone into you know, the last five ten years,
social media, digital, that whole realm has kind of been growing.
I mean obviously we're you know, we're on you know, podcasts,
and we're you know, people are viewing us over across
different platforms. We're on YouTube or on prey dot com
and different things like that. How have you seen the
interaction engagement with people grow through your podcast and through
(13:19):
different platforms. God's put you in.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Man, It's it's so neat because you can sit here
from your home or wherever you are, and you can
just you know, there's really no excuse anymore.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
You can if you have an if you have a phone,
if you have anything, you can pick it up and
and I've just seen I've just seen such amazing things.
You know, my YouTube, I focus a lot on you know,
living your purpose and that you're amazing everything that we're
talking about.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
I see a lot of interaction.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
I see a lot of people who you know, need
that extra off just to just to make it through
the day. And I also just see people who need prayer.
There's a lot of hurting people out there, and I
love the opportunity to pray. I also do something with
my mom on my YouTube channel once a month, I
do a House of Hope. And my Mom's nice one.
(14:09):
She's my hero and people love her. I tell her Mom,
if people just want to hear you, I'll ask you questions.
But you know, there's something from that long life of wisdom.
What She's had a lot of mistakes, She's had a
lot of great things.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
And so I love being able to do that with her.
Speaker 5 (14:27):
And because she was healed of cancer and given that miracle,
she has prayed for so many people. And I did
a I've done several things on her miracle, just just
her speaking the scripture, and that has millions of views,
just people who need hope. And you know, I did
it in a way just to help people so they
can la bed at night and they can turn those
(14:49):
scriptures on soft music and hear the word of God.
Because a lot of people are at the end of
the rope. A lot of people are facing things that
you know, we never dreamed or he never drea face.
And you know, if he had that one little hope
of encouragement, that one little boost of hope, that shot
of hope is what I say, that's what I love
to do, and it's just been amazing. I'm amazed by
(15:12):
what God can.
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Do through this.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Yes, agreed, Absolutely agreed. You know I I uh just
in my I'm in the broadcast world here last ten
eleven years myself, and it's been so fun to hear
stories from people, you know, broadcasters around.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
There's a gentleman who was on the network for a
little while and he was in California and he had
mid turned to one of his rooms into a studio
and record, you know, you know, just just one of
the room, just put some stuff in there and recorded
little teachings and and he his calling he felt called
at that late night hour, right that midnight you know,
midnight one two am, you know when he really went
(15:48):
to b when did a broadcast in that time frame specifically,
And I was like, wow, that's great. And he called
me the next day after his first broadcast and he said, Steve,
when I had somebody I'd prayed with two I think
it was two or three people that were suicide needed
needed hope, right what hope?
Speaker 4 (16:03):
You?
Speaker 3 (16:03):
And I just think that there are people right now,
like you mentioned that time and society and you know,
culture and different things are pushing from every direction and
we have to push back out from that force withinside
of us to say no, you know, this is not
going to overtake. And for those who don't have that hope,
they need that otherwise that forces can definitely feel overwhelming. Yeah, absolutely,
(16:28):
so I want to, you know, take a moment here,
want you to speak to somebody who's listening and they
just they need that nudge. Just just take a moment
and just follow a spirit and just just encourage somebody
who's listening right now. They're listening or watching, they need
to see or hear just kind of that encouragement.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
Well, you know, you're here for a reason, and this
is the great thing. God knows who you are, where
you are, and what you're going through, and people around
you may not know. And you may be hurting, you
may be gone through some severe trauma, you may be
troubled in your mind right now, and just know this,
You're not alone. God is always just a prayer away.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
And.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
You have people who believe in you and who need you,
and you know what you're needed. You may think that
nobody cares, but God cares, and we care about you.
And I always believe that you know, just God sets
you up. God sets you up to hear this right now.
And I just want you to know you're loved, you're needed,
You're wanted, you're desired, you're important, you have a purpose.
(17:32):
God created you on purpose with a purpose. You haven't
done too many bad things. You haven't failed God too
many times. You haven't been in prisoned too many times,
been addicted too many times. No, God doesn't look at that.
He looks at who you're made to be, who you're
destined to be. So I would just encourage you just
(17:53):
to if you need help, find someone that can help
you and talk to you, get involved in a good church,
a Bible believing church, and and then just start getting
in the Word of God and get a get a
translation that you can understand, and start reading in the Gospels.
Like Stephen said, you know, Jesus went about doing good,
He healed, He sat with the sinners. I mean, if
(18:14):
that didn't tell something, right there, he ate with them.
And you know he believes in you, and I just
I don't. I never wanted anybody to give up because
you're so needed here on this earth. And I just
want to encourage you. This is a new day, shake
off yesterday and just just step into that. Your destiny
is just waiting for you to show up.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Mm hmm, that's good. Come on, amen, I was encouraging.
Just yeah. I just want to echo that. I just
that is so great. If you're watching this, listen to this,
let us know like that, if this blessed you, this
encourage you, that's that's. Uh. We love to hear. And
and like you said, like she said, maybe if you
aren't connected, you know, we connect you with somebody or
some different ministries in the area where you are. And uh,
(18:57):
you know, I also want to maybe encourage people by testimony.
So what you know for me, Uh you mentioned miracles
obviously your mom's testimony of her miracle cancer. That's incredible,
you know. I'm thinking back to I was on a
mission's trip and had a lady with a goroiter on
the side of her neck and laid my hands on it.
Not that my hands are they're big, but they're not
that powerful, right. I can't squeeze those things away, And
(19:18):
so put my hand on there and prayed and it
literally just disappeared.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
Goodness under my hand.
Speaker 3 (19:24):
It was incredible. And yeah, and so maybe what are
some maybe some things that you've seen from small to
big that might just sharing some stories about what God's
done and maybe through you, through your ministry, through people
you know, that might just be a benefit or and
a blessing to somebody.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
Well, somebody came up to me in May and the
May before I had been at this certain church, and
I prayed for her to have a baby.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
She couldn't have babies, she'd had miscarriage except her miscarriage.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
And she when she came this time, I didn't remember,
just because I you know, you kind of go a
lot of places. But she came up nine months pregnant.
You pray, and again it's not my prayer, it's just
believing in faith and standing in agreement. And you know,
I can think of one time me personally. In twenty nineteen,
I had a severe pain in my left leg, and
(20:15):
I mean it was bad and I couldn't I got
to the point where I couldn't walk. I went to
MRIs and couldn't figure it out. And finally I just
got hooked up, by the grace of God, with a doctor,
a specialist, a neurosurgeon in town, one of the best,
and he read something in my MRI that you know,
other doctors hadn't found. And he said I needed This
(20:36):
was on a Friday. He said, I need to get
you surgery first thing Monday morning and got He came earlier.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
That day to get me in. First of all, that's
a miracle. That is a miracle.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
You know, some people say, well, you didn't get healed
by Jesus. You know, you didn't get instantly healed. I'll
take the heel and anyway I can take it. This
is this is the great thing. I had to go
on that Friday before surgery and I had to get
these test done to make sure I was okay for surgery.
And one of the tests was the doctor was a
different doctor was testing how if my nerve damage was
(21:08):
too severely, you know, gone to where it was permanent.
So it's laying on this table and the doctor's right
there next to me, and she's poking needles all in me,
and it hurts so bad.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
I was already in pain. It hurts so bad. And
I mean, I'm tough. I've had five kids and I
can do it.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
That's really.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
But I'm laying on.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
The table, she's poking me, and I have tears running
down my face, and I'm saying, God, I don't think
I can take this pain. I'm looking forward to surgery.
And I saw her her profile, she had her hair
pull back in a scarf, and I saw her skin.
I thought, I got to get my mind off this pain.
So I just said, your skin is beautiful, you know,
as ladies talking about skin. I said your skin is beautiful.
(21:52):
And she stopped what she's doing and she looked at
me and she said really.
Speaker 4 (21:57):
I said, yeah, it's beautiful.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
What do you do and she just looked real startled,
and she said, I guess it's chemotherapy. I'm on my
eighth round, stage four cancer.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
WHOA.
Speaker 5 (22:08):
I realized at that point that she didn't have her
scarf to hide her hair. She had her scarf on
to hide the fact that she had no hair, which
is irrelevant.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (22:19):
You know, it was a kind of an awkward silence.
I didn't really know what to say, and I said, well,
you look beautiful, and she said this, She said, thank you.
It's because of a lot of faith and prayers. And
I sat there for a minute because I'm in pain.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
I'm playing on that thing, and.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
I don't just go around telling my mom's healing story
unless I'm on a platform or a stage somewhere. And
because she said because of faith and prayers, I just
simply said this. I said, you know, many years ago,
my mom was diagnosed with metascetic cancer of the liver,
given a few weeks to live, and because of faith
and prayers that she's now. At the time, she was
(22:55):
eighty No, she was eighty eight years old. She's totally
cancer free. Now listen, excuse me, chilies, chili willies. Big
old tears started running down her eyes. Here I'm waiting
for my miracle. I'm waiting for my surgery.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Chears down her face, and she said, you're one of
two people who have ever given me hope. She said.
Speaker 5 (23:14):
These people try to give me hope, but then they
tell me about the person that died of the same disease.
Speaker 4 (23:18):
She said, but you and this other lady gave me hope.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
And this other lady gave me a book by a
lady who was healed of cancer.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
She said, I read it every chance I get. It's
my lifeline. Now listen to this, she said, it's a
book by DODYO. Stein.
Speaker 5 (23:35):
I am telling you what I have chills, when I
tell you that, and I mean, oh Lord, tears still
coming down my face. And I looked at her and
I said, that's my mom. We had a moment in there,
both crying. But this is a deal. This is how
good God is. This is these divine appointments. Sometimes we
break this feeling a certain way. What are the chances
(23:55):
out of the billions of people in this world that
God would collide to people who were in pain, suffering
and needed hope and cause us to be that hope
for one another? Yes, all on the way to my miracle,
which happened on Monday morning. By the way, I got surgery.
I crawled in wheelchaired in and I walked out been
totally painfree.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (24:15):
How God just ordains our steps if we can just
trust him and not try to give him the blueprint
for our miracle, for our life, but just say, God,
I surrender, because he can do so much more with
our surrender than he could ever do with our control.
He's a man.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Amen. Wow you know that?
Speaker 2 (24:35):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Wow, that is I love. I love how goodness of God, right,
the goodness of God to bring that together, to bring
something where she would be so encouraged and so blessed
and so reminded of his faithfulness in that moment. Wow.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
And you know what, had I had God held me instantly,
which he does many times, heals people instantly, but I
would have never had that with her, that divine appointment.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
So you know, you just never know what gots up to.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
That's good. Yes, So quick story for me on that
I this has been probably would have been about two
thousand and nine, I guess so a few years back,
sixteen something whatever years back till in two thousand and nine.
And uh, my knee. I'm a farm a former baseball catcher,
so my knee is a little bit sore from playing ball.
I played here, played airt oru and so lots of practices,
(25:23):
lots of hard work. And I get a call from
my mom and she says, hey, we've got a guest
speaker at our church. She goes to a church, small,
little Native American church out south of south of town here,
and she said, we got a guest speaker coming. I
think you're going to want to come. And I said, oh, well,
who's you know who's coming? And she's no, Steve. When
you're gonna want to come? I said, well, who is it?
She said, Oral, nice goodness, Oh we'll be there.
Speaker 5 (25:45):
You know.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
We loaded up and had it out there and uh,
you know my knees and so we the oral preached
amazing message and it was Oral Roberts and he preached
and the healing line just like you used to do, right,
And so he had everybody come up and I had
my knee pray for, and I there's times that the
(26:08):
other knee hurts and I go, okay, I should have
had both prayed for. But that's because that's on one
it ken't be on the other. I remind me, remind
myself and remind the enemy, like, no, this was pray
for us. This is a done deal, not because of horror,
because God just just that that touch point, you know
his He was all about that touch point of contact
of agreement, right, and so you know, let this let somebody,
(26:32):
let this this story be a visual auditory point of
contact to encourage somebody listening today that God does love you,
that he is for you, and he can bring healing.
He can bring a miracle to your life. I I
have seen you know, others feet, legs, you know, uneven
grow out or they're even I mean, you know missions trips.
(26:55):
You just see all kinds of stuff you get. I
think that's and I would I would just encourage I
think anybody. And I'm not you know, plugging for any
certain church or anything, but I just say, reach out
to your church and get plugged in if you're if
you're you know, in a church that has missions programs,
which everyone should get connected and go go on a trip.
You know, I wish every every student here to or
you would would go on any missions trip because I
(27:15):
think that's something that's crucial at that age. I got
to do it. I got to do it as a leader,
which is an amazing opportunity to grow that area too.
For me, I was the only non medical person on
a medical missions trip. Hello, you know, I was a communicator,
could speak Spanish and so that was great. But I'm
you know, I'm there. I'm sitting at lunch with them
and they're all talking about cadavers and I'm like this,
(27:37):
this lunch is no longer good, you know, I'm oh it,
Uh it changed, I go over it now now I'm fine. Actually,
is I see that as actually a changing port for
me because now in my family with my kids, I
got four kids also and I'm I'm the parent that's
the default for any kind of medical stuff. It's like, okay, hey,
let me look at it. I'll help me, help me
(27:57):
do this. And you know, nothing grosses me out. You know,
it's like I was carrying me then for something now,
which I love.
Speaker 4 (28:03):
Yeah, that's awesome. Change your life the build.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
Yeah, I think, you know, I think in the where
we're at now, and you know, in the States, sometimes
we get lulled into the normal, you know, and I
think putting ourselves in the place of going out outside
the walls of the United States is definitely something that
really can Can you see the hunger right for faith?
You see the hunger for the Lord in just ways
(28:35):
that just we just aren't the same. And so I'm
just grateful for those who maybe do the same from
other countries and come here, you know, and bring the
ad Ministry of the United States to be us as well.
So okay, so let's talk about I'm gonna shift just
a little bit on in a good note here. What
(28:56):
are you kind of just in a looking forward, looking
what you kind of see coming up in twenty twenty five,
you know, coming up ahead? Can what do you have
some expectations you have. Maybe things got just placed on
your heart. Obviously I know the book's coming, of course,
but just is there anything and just forthcoming? It would
be an encouragement.
Speaker 4 (29:13):
Yeah, you know, I just really expect. I expect. I'll
just tell you what I expect. I expect God to
shift some things.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
And been believing God for some things for a long time,
and I just believe that this is a year of
answered prayers.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
I believe this is the.
Speaker 5 (29:28):
Year that you know, I as always I've seen the
goodness of God.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
This is the year of God's faithfulness.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
This is what I declare over my life for every
single day, I declared this is my year, and I
would encourage you to just start declaring things over your life.
So this is what I'm expecting. I'm expecting, you know,
just great things in my family. I'm expecting great things
in the ministry. I'm expecting expansion. I'mspecting. I'm expecting new opportunities,
(29:56):
new doors to be open. So i have a lot
of expectation and a lot of excitement, and I'm just
excited to see what God's going to do.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
And I'm working hard for it. And you know, it's
just I believe it's going to happen.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
You know. One of the fun things I think and
you as as parents, is a lot of that. For me,
I've seen it. My expectations. I have things for me
and my wife and as a family as a whole.
But it's fun to see expectations go on the individual
level with your kids and to see them grow. Yeah,
and that's just you know, and their sports or their dance,
(30:31):
or their writing or their you know, whatever is they're
implolved with, you know, to see them grow in those
areas and of course hunger in the Lord and you know,
just that level of expectations too.
Speaker 5 (30:40):
Yeah, that's so good. Here's something good that you're saying
that sometimes we get focused on what our kids aren't doing.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Not kidding, no, never, never.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Sometimes it's easy to get focused on that prodigal that
hadn't come home. You get focused on their doing everything wrong.
You get focused on I don't think they're ever going
to come back to God. But I want to encourage
you with this, and I heard this from somebody. If
you speak to the fool and your children, the fool's
going to rise up. But if you speak to the
king or the queen and your children. That's what's going
to rise up.
Speaker 4 (31:13):
So you know, start speaking what you want to see,
find that one good thing, Praise them for one good thing. Man,
you're such a great son, you're such a great student.
You know, whatever it can.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
You may think I don't have anything good to say.
You have something good to say.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
Start calling out. That's one thing that my dad was
a master out. He called stuff out in me. And
I think I can't get up there and take an offering.
I mean, that sounds so good. Now I can't get
up there and do an announcement. But I did it.
He called it out.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
But see what I think is he saw me doing
what I'm doing today and that helped me.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
So you know, speak what you seek until you see
what you've said. And now say that one ten times.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
In other words, speak you seek until you see what
you've said.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
I like that.
Speaker 5 (32:00):
Change what you're saying and you'll change what you're seeing.
Daddy wrote a book, there's a miracle in your mouth?
What are you saying? And this says and proverbs. A
wise woman or a wise person builds their house, the
other one tears it down by their own efforts. So
that shows us right there, we can be a builder
or we can be a destroyer. So I'm gonna be
a builder. I'm build. I'm not going to magnify the negative.
(32:23):
I'm going to magnify the positive.
Speaker 3 (32:26):
That's good. I love that. Wow, that's great. All right,
Well we're getting towards the end here, so let's let's
shift to just kind of what I say, I call
it my popcorn or just kind of spontaneous. This is
just like quick probably more of a quick answer is
this is not expected to be a story. It can
be if you flick, a story comes on you. No
issues with that. But one of our favorite questions, I
(32:46):
don't know how it has come up. Maybe we like
food a lot, But one of my favorite questions is
what's your favorite like go to just enjoy some good food.
What is your just go to just to really have
like a maybe a good savory, you know, food for you.
Speaker 4 (33:01):
You know, I live in Texas. I love me some
Mexican food.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
There you go, there you go. I love that. I
love that. Anything Mexican food, right, any plate does it?
That's good?
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Right?
Speaker 3 (33:15):
So you have got to travel a lot. What is
one of your favorite doesn't have to be the favorite
I'm not Neil making your rank or anything, but it's
maybe a favorite that jumps out to you. Places you've
gotten to go to.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Well, this has nothing to do with speaking, although I
have spoken over there is Italy, Yes, so that's one.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
Of the leaders.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
You get to go to what areas?
Speaker 5 (33:34):
I've been all over it and so just drop me
anywhere and I'm good.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
My wife and I got we got to go to
the northern part and along that and then along the
coast as well, not all the way south in the boot,
but you know on the other northern. Yeah, beautiful area there. Yeah,
I love that. Let's see. Okay, what's summer flipping that?
What summer you haven't been that you'd like to go to?
Speaker 4 (34:00):
You know, I would like to go to. Uh.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
I've been to a little bit of Switzerland, but I
really want to go back. I want to go I've
been like from from the top of Italy. I went
over there just for a day, but I want to
go stay there.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
Yeah. Awesome. What is a current book you're reading.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
I just finished Doctor Aman's book on uh uh, it's
on happy. I don't know the title, but happy something
about happy. It was great, great, great book.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
So good. That's awesome. I love that. And then let's
see here, what about I try I trying to think
anything else that just jumps out of me. You usually
have some fun questions here. Uh oh, I know, And
I'm actually gonna I'm gonna pivot back for a second
here on something kind of well, we'll end with this,
(34:51):
I guess we'll end the popcorn time. But I just
wanted to kind of carry back to a conversation you
mentioned early about speaking the destiny, speaking the right things
over peace with a quick whole story. So I grew
up at Victory Church Pastor Billy Joe, and uh, I
love Pastor Paul's good friend of ours. Here he's crossed
the Corcross Street from us. Obviously he's doing a wonderful
(35:12):
job leading a church and doing great job over there
with a group there, the team. But I remember because
it was Maybe Center, which is fun cause I work
close by here to Maybe Center now and coming up
the escalator, a lot of times he'd be there at
the top. You know, we're after service, he'd be there
at the end. Hey, mighty man, how are you you know?
Speaker 6 (35:30):
I love that?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
And every time mighty man, mighty man, And to the
point that actually he he and Sharon were so gracious
they actually did our wedding for us, and you're busted
encouraged by that greatly. I'm so so honored and humbled
that they were able to do that with their time schedule.
But that's what's something I have carried that on, and
I speak that in my in my kids. You know, hey,
(35:52):
mighty man, you know, hey, Princess and my daughter, you know,
and I even say it with him. I'm coaching, you know, athletes.
I do some coaching with my kids, and you know
that speaking that mighty man. You know that that kind
of purpose, that that whole concept is. You know, like
you said, you have a chance to share maybe what
their identity is, you know, speak that over them, because
a lot of times I saw we think about it.
(36:14):
Just recently in a practice there as a boy. He was,
you know, we're they're they're six years old, right, six
seve years old. They're trying to swing them at the ball,
not going to go you know, a long way away,
but just that little mind, I said, he look at me,
you looked at I said, you can do this. I
know you can do this, you know, And within two swings.
He just crushed it. I was like, let's go, you know,
(36:36):
just Y, and he's not my son, he's just a
kid on the team. I just really encourage and just
speak that destiny, like that belief end of people. So
it's so necessary. But well, this is I think this
is the theme of this has been hope. This has
been the Hope Hope podcast today. I love it. I
love Hope and Healing podcast. You know, honestly on that
(36:58):
you know, you mentioned earlier about medical you know, you
think back to here on campus of RU, they have
the praying hands healing hands actually recalled. A lot of
people are friends with praying hands, are actually healing hands historically,
and what that is was the hand of if you
look at them, my hands are big. If you look
at him once slightly a little bit more, and that's
(37:20):
the end of God. And the other one is the
hand of medicine coming together to bring healing to the world.
And so that was the original foundation of that purpose
of that and I think that that is a great
story and a great reminder that God can use the
medical world in a good way to bring healing like
he did for you and many others as well. As
(37:40):
also the time of you know, you get get healed
just because of prayer and God goes. Let's change that timeline.
You know, it's on my timeline now, you know, not
man's timeline. And so yeah, if you're listening to seeing
this podcast, this has been a blessing to you. We
want to encourage you that God has great things in
store for you, That God has healing power for you
today right here and hope and you can be happy
(38:02):
