Speaker 1 (00:12):
This is Getting to Know Your Bible, a program dedicated
to the proclaiming of the good News of Jesus Christ.
Here's Billy Lambert.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hello, I'm Billy Lambert. I am the regular speaker on
Getting to Know Your Bible, and I want to welcome
you today. This may be the very first time that
you have seen this telecast. I want you to know
that the thing that we emphasize on getting to Know
your Bible is a word of God. The Bible is

(00:46):
the greatest book that has ever been written. Many years ago,
there were those that wrote books that thought they would
replace the Bible. That's what Thomas Paine thought when he
wrote The Age of Reason. But the Bible continues to
live after century. Jesus said, heaven and earth shall pass away,
but my Word shall not pass away. So on getting

(01:07):
to Know your Bible, we're teaching from the timeless Word
of God. The Bible is God's book, the greatest book
that has ever been written. And today we're going to
be opening up the pages of the Word of God
and delivering a message to you from God's book. Today
we're going to be seeing a one of our classics

(01:29):
that is a production of one of our telecasts from
time in the past, and we want you to stay tuned.
We're going to be offering a free Bible Correspondence course
today and we will see information on the screen as
to how you can receive that course. And so we
want to pause at this.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
Time to help you in your study of the Bible.
We want to send you this Bible Correspondence course. This
course is non denominational, it's based on the Bible, it's

Speaker 2 (02:27):
I'm reading today from John chapter fourteen. And then first
of all, I would like to read verse fifteen. And
Jesus is speaking in these passages that I'm going to read.
If you love me, keep my commandments now, that's verse fifteen.
If you love me, keep my commandments now verse twenty one.

(02:52):
He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is
he who loves me, and he who loves me will
be loved by my father, and I will love him
and manifest myself to him. Now verse twenty three, if

(03:18):
anyone loves me, he will keep my word. My father
will love him, and we will come to him and
make our home with him. Those three verses tell us
one important truth. We should love Jesus. We should love Jesus.

(03:45):
In the first verse, Jesus said, if you love me,
keep my commandments. You see, when we love the Lord,
we do what the Lord commands for that we do.
And then in verse twenty one, he says, if a
man keeps my mind commandments, he loves me, and he
and I love him, and my father will love him,

(04:07):
and he says, and I will manifest myself to him.
That word manifest is used in different ways in the
New Testament. There are different words translated from different Greek
words translated manifest, but the one that is used here
means to uncover, to reveal something, and so Jesus is

(04:29):
going to be fully known, fully revealed of those that
love him. Now verse twenty three, Jesus said, if a
man loves me, he's going to keep my word. My
father will love him. We will come to him, and
we'll live with him. Well, he says, we'll make our
home with him. Let me ask you is the Father

(04:50):
and the Son living with you. Loving Jesus is our
theme today. You might say, well, Brother Lambert, should we
love Jesus? Is there any per particular reason that we
should love Jesus. I'd like to give you three reasons.
I believe all of us should love him. First of all,
we love him because of who he is. He is

(05:13):
our Lord. You remember Saul of Tarsus asking Acts nine six, Lord,
what will you have me to do? He is Jesus.
His parents were told to call his name Jesus, for
he shall save his people from their sins. He is Christ.
Peter said, thou art the Christ, the son of the
living God. He is our high priest Hebrews four fifteen.

(05:35):
He is our advocate first John chapter two, verse one
and two. He is our intercessor Hebrews seven, in verse
twenty five. He is our savior Acts chapter four and
verse twelve. And I might point out he is the
only savior. He is our friend. In Matthew Chapter fifteen
and verse fourteen, Jesus said, you're my friends if you
do what I command you. He is the Way, He

(05:57):
is the Truth and the Life. John fourteen and six.
He is God's son, John three point sixteen. When you
think about who Jesus is, why shouldn't we want to
love him? So? Number one, we love Jesus because of
who he is. Secondly, we love Jesus because of what
he has done. Well, what did he do? He died.

(06:21):
He died for you, He died for me. He Brews
two and nine says he tasted of death for every man,
every individual on the face of the earth. Jesus died
for them. He made you know the grace of our
Lord Jesus Christ. Though he's rich, yet for your sakes

(06:45):
he became poor. You through his poverty might be made rich.
Second Corinthians eight and verse nine. He died wounded for
our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities Isaiah, chapter fifty three. Secondly,
when he died, he shed his blood. He shed his blood.

(07:08):
In Matthew twenty six and verse twenty eight, Jesus said,
for this is my blood. This is my blood of
the new covenor or the New Testament, which was shed
for many for the remission of sins. Jesus not only died.
There are a lot of people have died, but they

(07:28):
did not die to save me. Jesus died and shed
his blood that I might have the remission of my sins,
that you might have your sins forgiven. Isn't that a
wonderful thought? He was delivered from darkness translated to the
Kingdom of God, dear son in whom we have redemption

(07:50):
through his blood, the forgiveness of sins Calautionans one thirteen
and fourteen. See Jesus Christ has done that for us.
He shed his blood, and Jesus was raised from the dead.
That's what he's done. He's been raised from the dead.
If you were to go to the tomb of Mohammed
wherever it is, he's still there. You go to the

(08:15):
tomb of Mary Baker Eddie, she's still in it. You
go to the tomb of Alexander Campbell, He's still in it.
You go to the tomb of John the Baptist, wherever
that might be, he's still in it. You go to
the tomb of Jesus and the words of Matthew twenty
eight six, just wring out. He has risen. Jesus Christ
has been raised from the dead. Romans wanting force is

(08:37):
declared to be the son of God with power. According
to the Spirit of Holiness, by the resurrection from the dead,
wounded for our transgressions, raised again for our justification Romans
four and verse twenty five. Why do we love Jesus
because of who he is, because of what he has done,

(08:58):
and we love him because of what he's still doing? Well,
what is he doing. He's still in the business of
adding save people to the church. Listen Acts chapter two
and verse forty seven. Praising God and having favored all
the people of the Lord added under the church daily
those that were being saved, or such as should be saved.

(09:21):
In Matthew twenty eight, Verses nineteen and twenty. In giving
the Great Commission, according to Matthew's Gospel, Jesus said, go
you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, the Son of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.
And when we go and teaching baptize people, they're added

(09:43):
to the church by the Lord. He is still adding
people to the church. And the Lord is still in
the business of being with those who preach and teach
his word. Notice verse twenty in Matthew te where Jesus
gave that great commission, and he said, Lo, I'm with

(10:04):
you all the way, even to the end of the age,
of the end of the world. You see, the Lord
is with those who preach and teach his word. Today
He's still Sometimes preachers feel all alone. They may not
tell their spouses, they may not tell their congregations they
feel that way, But they feel all alone, so alone

(10:27):
at times. But may I remind every man preaching the
true Gospel of Jesus, you are never alone, because the
Lord has promised I'm going to be with you. Jesus
is still our mediator. There's just one mediator between God
and man, and that man is Christ, Jesus. First Timothy,

(10:48):
Chapter two, verses four through six. Jesus Christ is still
in the business of praying a place for those who
belong to him. You know, before he left this alarth,
he said to the disciples, let not your hearts be trouble.
You believe in God. Believe also in me in my
Father's house or many mansions. If it were not so,

(11:11):
I would have told you, if I go to prepare
place for you, I will come again and receive you
unto myself. That where I am there you may be. Also,
Jesus said, I'm going to go prepare place for you.
And so Jesus' work is still going on in making
Heaven ready for those who belong to him. I love

(11:37):
Jesus because of who he is, but what he's done,
what he's doing. But I love Jesus because also because
of what he's going to do. One day, he's going
to come back. One day, he'll come back with a
shout with the voice of the archangel, the trumpet of God,
and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Jesus going

(12:00):
to return. You say, how do you know he's going
to return? Jesus said, if it were not so, I
would have told you. He said, I went to prepare
place for you. If I went to prepare place for you,
I will come again. And Hebrews nine twenty eight, we're
told him it will appear the second time without sin
under salvation. He's coming again. And we love him for

(12:24):
that reason that he's going to come back one day.
And if we love him, because one day he's going
to raise people that are in the tombs, the raise
the dead. We may be some of those that are
raised on that day, our Lord. In John five twenty
eight said the hour is coming in which all that
are in the gray shall hear his voice and shall
come forth, they that have done good to the resurrection

(12:46):
of life, and they that have done evil unto the
resurrection of damnation. And also Jesus is going to judge
the world. When the Son of Man shall come and
is gloring all of his holy angels with him. Then
shall he sit upon the throne of his glory. And
before him shall be gathered all nations, and he shall

(13:06):
separate them as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats,
and he'll set the sheep on the right head of
the goats on the left Matthew twenty five, verse thirty
one to verse thirty three. And then he's going to
take the righteous home to be with him forever. In
Matthew chapter twenty five and verse forty six, at the
end of that great chapter, Jesus said, and these shall

(13:29):
go away into everlasting punishment. But listen to him now,
but the righteous in the life eternal. Can you think
of a reason we ought not to love Jesus because
of who he is, because of what he has done,
what he's doing, what he's going to do, someday at
the end of time. Oh how I love Jesus. But

(13:50):
what does it really mean to love Jesus? Friend? Does
it mean that you hank your horn if you love Jesus?
Have you ever seen a bumper sticker and automobile honky?
If you love Jesus, Friend, you can honk if you
will like. But there's more to love in Jesus than
honk in your horn. Someone says, well, you know, brother Lambert,
I love the Lord. I wear a cross around my neck. Well,

(14:12):
I'm not disparaging those who might wear cross around their neck,
but there's more to love in Jesus than wearing a
symbol of a cross around your neck. Does it mean
that you have a copy of the Bible and that
you attend to every service, and that you wear a
T shirt that has I Love Jesus on it? And

(14:32):
does it mean that you give and you say I
Love Jesus to everyone you meet on the street. Is
that the indication that you really love Jesus. There's not
anything wrong with doing those things, But friends, I want
you to know there's a lot more to love in
Jesus than those things I have just mentioned. What does
it mean to love Jesus. There's more to love in

(14:55):
Jesus and just having a warm, fuzzy feeling. People get
sort of emotional and they think that means that they
love Jesus. Some people raise their hands and worship. They
think that's an indication they're showing how much they love Jesus.
I'm not disparaging those who do that, but I'm just
telling you there's more to love in Jesus and raising
your hand, there's more to love in Jesus and quoting

(15:18):
scripture from one end of the Bible of the other.
Loving Jesus has to do. Well, what's in your heart?
You know? Jesus said, thou shall love the Lord thy
God with all of thy heart, with all of thy soul,
and with all of thy mind. We love God with

(15:38):
our hearts. And when we love Jesus, we show that
we love Jesus. I think one of the ways that
we show that we love Jesus, obviously, is by obeying Jesus.
What did he say in verse fifteen John fourteen, if
you love me. Now, some people may not love him,
and some people do not. Some people would despise Jesus.

(16:01):
But Jesus say, if you love me, and you claim
you love me, and you profess you love me, and
you tell people you love me, Well, then you keep
my commandments. You keep my commandments. You do what I
tell you to do. And being truthful and honest is
a commandment of Jesus. That's a commandment of Jesus. Being

(16:22):
kind is a commandment of Jesus. Being loving is a
commandment of Jesus. Being baptized in order to be saved
is a commandment of Jesus. Being faithful in worship is
a commandment of Jesus. See, if you love Jesus, you're
going to keep his commandments. You're going to do what
the Lord tells you to do. And so there's a

(16:44):
lot more to love in Jesus than just making a profession.
Oh I love the Lord. I love the Lord. And
when we love Jesus, we follow him every day. It's
not just a Sunday stroll with Jesus. It's not just
a walk in the park on Sunday with Jesus. It's

(17:07):
a life that you live with Jesus. In Luke nine
twenty three, Jesus said, if any man will come after me,
let him deny him, take up his cross, how often
Jesus daily every day, seven days a week, and follow me.
You see, some people just have Sunday morning Christianity. They

(17:32):
get up on Sunday, they put on their Sunday clothes,
they put on their Sunday best and they go sit
down in a building and then listen to the preacher
preach for a while, and they listen to the songs,
and they listen to the prayers that are prayed, and
they maybe observe the Lord's Supper. And when they leave

(17:54):
that building, they're not outside earshot of the building until
they've already forgotten about the Church and Jesus for the
rest of the week. I remember a man who would
often say, well, we've now done our duty for the week.
And what he meant, We've come, We've had the Lord's Supper,

(18:15):
We've worshiped by singing and praying and giving and hearing
the word of God taught having the Lord's Supper, and
we've done our duty for the week. I want you
to know you have not done your duty for the week,
because you are to follow Jesus every day. And when
I love Jesus, serving Jesus is a daily task. It's

(18:40):
a daily job. And I show that I love Jesus
by depending on him daily. You know, the reason some
fail in life is because they're leaning on a weak staff.
They're leaning on them, and that's a weak's staff. It's

(19:04):
not going to hold you. You need to lean on
their the lasting arms. You need to lean on Jesus.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart. Lean
not on your own understanding. In all of your ways,
Acknowledge Him, and he shall direct your past Proverbs Chapter three,
verses five and six. And when you love Jesus, you're

(19:27):
going to allow Jesus to help you in making the
great decisions you have in life. You know, as Joel said,
their multitudes multitudes in the valley, decision and decisions are
part of life. We're made creatures of choice, so we
can make choices and decisions in life. But every decision

(19:49):
we make, when we love Jesus, we're going to allow
Jesus to help us in making that decision. Maybe a
good question and to ask when you have a decision
that's to be made is number one, what would Jesus do? Secondly,
what would Jesus have me to do? You know that's

(20:13):
the question. Saul of Tarsus asking Acts nine six, Lord,
what will you have me to do? Well? Of course
he was talking about his salvation, and he was told
to go into Damascus and he will be told what
to do, and he was told what to do. But
maybe in life we need to start asking you that
question when we have a decision to make. Maybe it's

(20:34):
decision about a companion, maybe it's a decision about a job.
Maybe it's a decision about your salvation. Maybe it's a
decision about how to rear your children. Maybe you're just
at a at a at a crossroads about what you
shot that should do as a parent. I don't know
what to do, or maybe your marriage is and shambles
and you don't know where to turn. Lord, what will
you have me to do? Depend upon him and ask

(20:57):
for wisdom in making the choices of life, and I
can promise you you will get the help you need.
And when we love the Lord Jesus Christ, you can
talk with the Father every day. You can talk to

(21:17):
the Father. He loves you. The Father loves you. Jesus
loves you. And Jesus said, We've made our home with you,
and you can talk to the Father every day through
the name of Jesus. Isn't it a wonderful thing to
love Jesus with all of our heart? Oh how I

(21:38):
love Jesus. I love Jesus. And then when we love Jesus,
I can know that I've had my sins cleansed and
my sins can stay clean in Jesus' blood. When I
love Jesus, Jesus loved me enough to die for me.
And if I love Jesus enough to obey the gospel

(21:59):
by believing on him, by repenting of my sins, by
confessing that I believe in him, by being baptized, because
Jesus said, he that believers and is baptized shall be saved.
And if then if I walk in the light as
he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us

(22:20):
from all sin. That simply means, cording to First John one,
verse seven, that the blood of Jesus Christ keeps us
clean of our sins every day, continually cleanses Us of
our sins. Oh high love Jesus, Oh high love Jesus.
Because I know when I mess up, when I sin,

(22:44):
I've got access to that cleansing blood. Blessed is a
man to whom the Lord will not impute sin romans
foreign aid. Blessed is that man who against whom God
will not keep a record of his sins. And that
man is the one who sins are forgiven by Jesus' blood.

(23:07):
We just need to stay in fellowship with God, fellowship
with Jesus, fellowship with the Holy Spirit, and we will
have the continual cleansing of our sins. Oh, how I
love Jesus, And then when I love Jesus, I know
I have Jesus as my friend. Jesus said, you're my friends.

(23:27):
If you do whatsoever I tell you, where I ever
command you, you do it. And when you do that,
you're my friends. And when I love Jesus, I'll obey Jesus,
and then I'll become jesus friend. We sing what a
friend we have in Jesus. You know, Solomon said, there's
a friend that sticks closer than a brother. That friend
is Jesus. A lot of us have good friends in life.

(23:51):
I have some people that are such dear friends to
me that there are certain things should I predecease them.
I've asked them to do There's a friend of mine
whom I've asked to speak at my funeral. Because I
love that friend so much, I've asked him to conduct
my service. And if he should predecease me, then he's
asked that I preach his service. But we're that close.

(24:16):
Even though we're lived miles apart, we're together in spirit.
And I love Jesus, Oh how I love Jesus. Jesus
is my friend. And when you have a friend, you
can confide in that friend. You can confide in Jesus.
You can go to Jesus with anything you've got that's

(24:39):
troubling you and pour out your heart and pour out
your soul to the Lord Jesus Christ. Oh how I
love Jesus. And because I love Jesus, because I do,
I surrendered my life to him. You know, there's a

(25:01):
song we sing, I surrender all all to Jesus. I
surrender all to him I give. Have you surrendered? Have
you given up? You know? The life maybe you're living,
you know working out too good for you. Maybe your
life is a life of confusion, the life of wordy,

(25:21):
in the life of frustration. Why not try Jesus, Why
not try Jesus surrender your life to him. That's what
Paul men in Romans twelve, and he said, I beseech you, therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies
a living sacrifice. And then in verse two he said,

(25:44):
don't be conformed to the world, be transformed, surrendering all
to Jesus. And when I love Jesus Christ, I'm not
ever going to turn my back upon him. There's a
song our young people sometimes sing has a refrain in it.
There's no turning back, no turning back. In John six

(26:05):
we read about some disciples who turn back and walk
no more with him. But not when you love Jesus.
When you love Jesus passionately, you'll never turn your back
upon him. Because Jesus has done so much for you,
He loves you so much. Why don't you serve him today?

(26:27):
When you love Jesus Christ, you're going to live each
day with eternity in view. Are you a Christian? Why
not become one today? In the closing moments? May not
