Speaker 1 (00:22):
Welcome to Grace Grace with Nina Michelle. I'm Michelle Humphrey.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
And i am Nina Kegan.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Today we're going to be talking about wisdom, getting wisdom,
God's spiritual wisdom, and that really does come from a
place and a posture of humility. And to start us off,
there's a scripture Proverbs eleven, and it says pride leads
to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
And so it's hard to get wisdom if you're.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Going to be all prideful and arrogant, but when you
want to seek God's wisdom and have that which you
wouldn't want to function and today without.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Think about like our nation, our world, not just America,
but all over the world.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Nations are in distress.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
And the Bible says that if my people, who are
called by my name, will humble themselves in pray and
turn from their wicked ways, then I will heal their land.
Our only hope for our world to be healed right
now is to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God.
It says the beginning of wisdom is the fear in

(01:37):
awe and reverential fear of God. So if we are
going to get the strategy to get our world back
on track and get our lives back on track. We
have to humble ourselves before the mighty hand of God.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
And the Lord has really been dealing with me.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
And I've been telling Nina, my husband, and those who
know me. You know, God has really been talking to
me about walking in humility.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
And I'm not.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Somebody that just like hears the word and just thinks, Okay,
I want to know what that looks like to God.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
So I keep saying, God, show me what.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Humility actually looks like in real life, not just like
self deprecating or false humility or you know, cutting yourself down,
nothing like that. I am talking about the wisdom of humility.
And I was in Seattle recently, and like I said,
I keep hearing, you know, I keep asking God, heal

(02:38):
our nation, heal the world God, and he keeps bringing
that scripture about humbling ourselves. So I am at a
hotel and across from me is this really nice apartment complex.
And I go to close my drapes and it's it's
you know, where I can kind of see in because

(02:58):
it's getting dark, and you could see you could see
one apartment complex had a party, A couple were eating dinner,
a couple were watching TV.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
It was like room with a view, you know. It
was like, wow, this is crazy.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
But there was one this is like a really nice,
you know, apartment complex.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
There was one apartment and.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
It had a marker board on the like up against
the window, and on that marker board it said God
resists the proud, but gives grace.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
To the humble. And I said, oh God, Please.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Lord, I know that's a message, because you keep talking
to me about walking in humility. Please show me what
that means in real life. I don't even know.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
And I came.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
To the conclusion that God means for us to radically
obey him. We can't do one thing without Jesus. So
the Bible says, apart from Me, you can do nothing.
So remember that about yourself when you're feeling high and mighty,
and know that you need to rely.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
On Him for your very breath. Believe me, if.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
God was not in charge, you wouldn't be breathing right now.
So we need to remember who we are, and we
need to know who He is, and we need to
humble ourselves and radically obey God, listen for his voice
and get before him and radically obey what he says.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Well, really, pride is when you're letting pride in, it's
you don't have a reverential fear of the Lord, right
And so basic humility is having a reverential awe and
a fear of the Lord. And the fear of the
Lord is the begin a wisdom. And when we humble ourselves,

(05:04):
how did our nation get in this kind of trouble?
It came through kicking God out of everything. And when
God is absent, the enemy is present, and we have
allowed him. We have given him a place. That says,
not to give the devil a foothold. But when you
want a need success in your life, you start by

(05:26):
giving God his rightful place back. That is humbling ourselves,
that is having a reverential fear of who he is
and what he can do. God is not going to
be mocked. And when you kick him out of things, well,
then guess what. Out goes our protection, out goes our strategy,
out goes our wisdom of what to do and how

(05:48):
to handle all that's going on, and it's chaos, and
so we have to seek God.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
And you know, a definition of.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Wisdom is the ability to make the right judgment, the
ability to discern the signs of the times and what's
really going on. And if you're not getting your wisdom
from the word of God, from the knowledge of God.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Then what's it for.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
If what you're doing here in this world isn't about God,
because of God and for God, then what does it matter?
What is the point of anything If you're not working
towards our endgame, which is spending eternity with Christ and
taking as many people with us as we can possibly bring.

(06:37):
That is the sole harvesting burden that we both have,
and that is wisdom, is to be able to discern
and know what God wants you to do when and
what's happening in our world. And it's to bring back
that awe and that reverential fear.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
I think in the church, it's almost like the Sons
of Eli. You know, Eli was a priest and he
had two sons, and they became so familiar with their
father's environment.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
It was their father's environment.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
And and they they they got in there and they
were sinning, and they were being very carnal uh and
and Eli and the sons died in that in that
story and and I mean that is a scary thing
when and here's what I think happened.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
I think that they became so.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Familiar with the things of God that it was no
longer there was no longer in awe. And when you
lose that reverential fear and awe of God, you're no
longer humble, You're proud, and and God resists the proud.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
And so we need to get back to.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
The reverential fear and awe of God. When you go
in to worship God, set aside everything in your mind,
set aside all of your ambition, set aside everything you're
worried about, and remember who he is. He is holy,
he is awesome, he is powerful. Greater is He that

(08:13):
is in you than he that is in the world.
I mean, just begin to go over what he is
and we will talk more about that when we come back.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
The world needs to be reached with the message of.

Speaker 6 (08:26):

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Welcome back.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
You're watching Grace Grace with Nina and Michelle, and we're
talking all about wisdom and humility, because you can't have
the wisdom of the Lord without humbling yourself and having
an awe and irreverential fear of the Lord. And you know,
I think about King Solomon and I ask one of
my prayers every day is that I ask for a

(09:49):
fresh anointing to do God's work, because if you're if
you don't have an anointing, you're doing it in the flesh,
and I never want to do that. So a fresh anointing.
I asked for a favor of God to do all
that I need to do. But I ask for wisdom,
and I ask for a double portion of the wisdom
of Salomon, because you can't have not going to ask
not right, And so I think about that big he had.

(10:15):
God asked him what he wanted. He could have had anything,
anything at all. When God asked him and he said,
I want wisdom. I want wisdom, And he says, with
all that, getting get understanding, because if you don't have
an understanding of God's word, wisdom comes from knowing God.
Wisdom comes from knowing his word. But if you don't

(10:37):
understand it or how that is to be applicable in
your life, then it won't matter anyway. So you need
to ask for that understanding of God's word and how
he wants you to use that or walk in it,
or how he wants that to be part of what
your calling is. How you are to discern that for yourself.

(10:59):
But he asks for wisdom. And you know, basically all
the proverbs, which is the Book of Wisdom, was written
by him, and you can you can't even go you know,
two sentences without him you reading about the awe and
how he was. He had such a reverential fear of
the Lord, and he spoke the wisdom that came straight

(11:22):
from the throne room. And you can read these proverbs
and every day, just pick one out. There's thirty one,
there's one for every day, and then keep going and
really just learn those that. There's so much detail and
how we need to It's got everything. It'll tell you
not to sign contracts, so many things that I'll read.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Sign Yeah, that'll practical.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
That will be just everything you need to live a
life of wisdom.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
And I mean God's word and you know when we
humble ourselves, you know his word is where we need
to run. And also to the altar. I don't know
if you go to a church where you can go
down to the altar and really pray, but I think
that's so important. I remember years ago when we had
our third and final child. We that year had built

(12:16):
a house and it was taxed on just the land,
and we were not real familiar with Texas property taxes.
So after the year was up, it was the entire house,
plus you know, the land. So our taxes went up
so much. We were like in our budget in shock
and all. Plus I was not working so because I

(12:39):
just had this baby. So we were just like, God,
what what do we do? What do we need to do?
You know, because we could afford it, but it was
just like tight it was and on Concentral, and then
we had this new baby and all these things, and
so I just remember, you know, going to the altar
and asking the Lord what to do, and honestly, he

(13:01):
gave us such a simple answer. And I hadn't even
thought of that answer, and it was just like problem solved.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
I mean, we did it. It solved it, It was done.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I mean, it was amazing, and it was just such
a practical thing we got that answer from at the altar.
You know, sometimes you just need to make an altar.
If your church doesn't have alter time, then make an
altar in your home and say God, here I am.
I am making this an altar, meaning I give this

(13:33):
problem to you. I lay this down at your feet
at this altar, mark the time, and say give me wisdom.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
I don't know what to do.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Sometimes our problems can be so complex. You know. It
talks about Daniel. Daniel knew he could work out the
naughty problems. That's what it says, like knots it would
be like the problems were perplexing and naughty. And so
think about that, like think about Noah. He didn't know

(14:06):
about rain. He didn't know how to.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Build a boat.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
He you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
But God gave him exactly the measurements, exactly what to do.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
God is that specific.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
If you will sit down, make an altar, ask God
for wisdom, he will give it to you. The Bible says,
if you ask God for wisdom, he will give it
to you without finding fault. That means that means he's
not going to say, yeah, but you did this, so
you're not getting wisdom today.

Speaker 4 (14:36):
But you did this.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
He's not accusing. He's not the accuser of you. That's
the devil's voice. He will give it to you freely.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Well, the longer you postpone what God has for you,
the longer you're entertaining what isn't what He doesn't have
for you. And so if we're not standing on the
word of God and the wisdom that brings.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Like you've been.

Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yesterday, I was talking to my kids, who you know,
they have a company together, and I'm really proud of them.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
They're entrepreneurs.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
But they had a particular meeting and I said.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
You know what, now write that down.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
Write the vision of what you see happening from that meeting.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Write the long term vision.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Rite and see visualized, see the fruit of that meeting
down the road.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Write it down.

Speaker 3 (15:26):
Because in the Book of Wisdom, it says write the vision,
write it down, and then speak it. It says, speak
it out of your abundance of the mouth, abundance of
the heart. The mouth speaks, and it says, the power
of life and death are in the tongue.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Speak life.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
And so I said, speak life over it. Write that down,
and every day what you wrote down, speak it, declare it.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
And all of that is wisdom.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
And you wouldn't know to do those things if you
didn't read about it in God's purposeful wisdom book that
he has for you. You know, he's not kidding when
he says these things. It's not like just a suggestion.
It's like a way to succeed. These are the ways
to get blessed. And so you know, Pat Robertson, if

(16:13):
there's this one thing he says all the time, He's like,
don't just read the word, do what it says. And
that's so simple, But that's wisdom because otherwise, why even
read it if you're not going to apply it to
your life? All that this word of God needs to
be applicable.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
You need to use it.

Speaker 3 (16:32):
You need to say okay, takes a word and say Okay,
how can I fit this in my life today?

Speaker 2 (16:37):
I'm going to walk this out.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
I'm going to do this and be so resolute in that.

Speaker 4 (16:45):
That's how we got to do it, girl, man.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
And we'll come back shortly. We want to honor God
because he sees everything.

Speaker 3 (17:00):
You were born with a plan and a purpose. He's
the God of all things possible. He's the God of
all miracle.

Speaker 5 (17:20):

Speaker 4 (18:21):
Welcome back to Grace Grace.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
We are talking about the wisdom of God and walking
in humility. It does take humility to ask God for
wisdom because you realize that you don't know it all,
and so that's you know, when you get to that point,
you're actually in a good point. When people tell me
I just don't know what else to do. I'm at

(18:44):
my wits in and I think that. I always say,
that's exactly where you're supposed to be right now, because
where God can start now when God can start. But
to me, one of the chief traits of someone who
is wise is that they run for from evil.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
You know, you're not hanging out with evil.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
I'm not talking about, you know, witnessing to people and
talking to them about Jesus. Of course you can't, you know,
remove yourself from the entire world. I am talking about
habitually living with people that are walking in you know, evil.
You've got to run from evil. You flee from evil.

(19:26):
And so that is one of the biggest traits to me,
that you're walking in wisdom. And also show me your
friends and I will show you your future. I mean seriously,
if you are hanging out with people who live in
an unwise way, more than likely you're not going to
be where you want to be in five years.

Speaker 3 (19:47):
Right, You're going to get all of that down in
your spirit, and you know, it's like it's like osmosis.
You're going to kind of become who you hang around
with the most, and you know, seek out those godly
mentors in your life, seek out the people who are
doing good things and walking in God's ways and keeping

(20:07):
his statutes, because when you do that, you know that
that's just wisdom. It's like, if you're the smartest guy
in the room, get a new room, because you need
to be in there getting some wisdom. You know. I
saw this meme the other day that said, if you
are ever hanging out with an old guy that is
slicing an apple with a knife blade and eating those

(20:28):
slices off the back of the knife, you probably need
to ask them some questions, you know, because you know,
there's there's so much wisdom that comes from experience. And
I just love getting with some of the older people
and hearing their stories and what they've overcome and what
they've done. And you know, I even just think about

(20:49):
my grandmother and boy, what they live through influenza and
the Great Depression and all those things. And yet still
we're the babies that are not humble or not crying
out to the Lord, and we're complaining about the littlest
of things. It's like, you know, God never promised us
a cushy, comfortable life, And if you would just remove

(21:12):
that from your life and know that a Christian's life
is just one hundred percent being obedient to God, no
matter what that looks like, no matter what it means,
because it's going to be used for good. If you
do that, stop complaining, stop grumbling. That's wisdom, because if
you do that, you're going to stay right where you

(21:32):
are and you're never going to move forward and start
praising God from a place of humility and ask him,
ask him what you need to do, ask him for wisdom.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Well, and I think too talking about the old man
with the apple, my grandfather, I was very very close
to him.

Speaker 4 (21:53):
He was born in nineteen oh five, so he had
seen a thing.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Or two right, and he got saved when he was
in his mid forties. So it wasn't always a Christian,
but he really knew the Lord. And my husband and
I after we got married, my grandmother passed away and
so we would drive out to his house. He lived
about forty five minutes away, and on Saturdays, my husband

(22:16):
would cut his yard. We would cook for him, like
for the week, and he would sit down with us
and tell us so much. You know, it was like, yeah,
I mean I got kind of.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
Addicted to his advice.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
I got to where I was, you know, like almost
afraid to do something without running it by him. I
kind of did that same thing to my father in
law when he passed away. I thought, you know, I
don't think I've made a decision since I was about
eighteen years old without the wisdom of my father in
law in my ear. You know that, just get with

(22:52):
people that have been around that are godly. The Bible says,
blessed are they who do not sit in the council
of the ungodly. So when I'm talking, I'm not just
talking about old and wise, I'm talking about godly wise.
And I really think that it is priceless. If you
have an old man, an old lady Bible study in

(23:15):
your church, get in it. You need it because you
need to go and sit with the people that have
walked in the things of God, that have experienced the
things of God, that have a testimony that is real.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
And you know, I just am so grateful.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
You know that. When I was in college, my mother
in law was head of WM's, which in the Assembly
of God world that.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Means women's ministries, And so she.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
Was head of WM's and I would go with her
to her little prayer group.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
And it was like full of people.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
You know, I remember one time this lady, this younger lady,
was saying, you know, I have PMS, and I am
so angry with my husband and I am angry with
my children during that time.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
And I remember this.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
Lady with a crooked finger, she said, little lady, you
get your hormones in line with God. And I thought,
that will preach right there. You know, there's no excuse
to be a fool. Absolutely, get your hormones, get your
life in line with God.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
And that's old school wisdom.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
Godly counsel, get with the wise. Those old those Pentecostal ladies,
they just they lay in hands on you and their
hair's on fire there. So the PhDs Pentecostal hairdo they're
they're up there, what do they say to hire the
hair the closer to Jesus. So that's where the wisdom
comes from. And we're just so happy. Let's just pray.

(24:52):
I thank you Lord.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Today.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
We come in agreement that that we would just cast
down those things that are not of you, that we
will walk in reverential fear in awe of You, Lord,
and that we would just be wise in you. Our
wisdom comes from you, Lord God. We ask you for
a gift of discernment, that we would be able to
know and the signs of the times and have a

(25:16):
wise a wise steps moving.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Forward, and that we would have your wisdom.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
Lord God, and we repent of all things known and unknown,
and we ask you to order every step we take.
And we just love you and praise you in Jesus' name.

Does science disprove God?

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Is there a war between science and faith?

Speaker 4 (26:27):
We don't need God to create a universe.

Speaker 5 (26:29):
There's no evidence for God and it's irrational? Is there
no evidence for God? Am I delusional? For my beliefs?
It is delusional and stupid?

Speaker 6 (26:37):
Am I brainwashed?

Speaker 5 (26:38):
Do I ignore reason? Logic?

Speaker 4 (26:40):
Critical thinking?

Speaker 6 (26:41):
Science?

Speaker 5 (26:57):
Our dof uses logic and reasoning.

Speaker 6 (27:00):

claims and more, check out ardiof dot org.

Speaker 5 (27:32):
The evidence he presents is so powerful and overwhelming, incredibly compelling,
yet easily understand this.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
