Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to this edition of PowerPoint with Jack Graham. A
little later in the program, we'll tell you how you
can get a copy of doctor Graham's book Ask. But first,
here's the message victorious prayer.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
So often our prayers are not dangerous, they're not dairy.
So often our prayers are too small and too predictable,
too safe. But the prayers of the Apostle Paul, and
the prayers that propel us in our spiritual battle are
(00:42):
not small.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
They're not safe.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
They are strong and mighty to the pulling down of strongholds.
And most of us would say, I want.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Much more out of my prayer life, much more.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Out of how I pray, the way that I pray,
what I pray. You might even say I'm tired of
saying prayers. I want to start praying prayers, prayers that
get a hold of God and his power. I want
(01:26):
to get beyond just praying over lunch. It's trying to
pray over lunch. It's good to pray over lunch, but
I want to get tired. I want to move beyond
just praying for food and praying for generic blessings in
my life. God, I really want to engage you and
your power in prayer. That's what Ephesian six, verse eighteen
(01:48):
is saying to us, having put on the armor of God.
Verse eighteen says, praying at all times in the spirit,
with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert
with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and
also for me, that words may be given to me,
(02:11):
and opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of
the Gospel for which I am an ambassador in change,
that I may declare boldly as I ought to speak.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Warfare.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
The warfare is prayer, and the way, and the battleground
is pray. This is a wonderful passage of scripture speaking
of how we are to pray again. Prayer is the
battleground for believers. And let me remind you that a
(02:56):
prayerless Christian.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Is a power us Christian. A prayerless Christian is a
powerless Christian. Sathan does not fear.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Prayerless preaching, or prayerless teaching, or prayerless worship or prayerless religion.
He mocks our schemes, he laughs at our programming, but
he fears our prayers. And it's been said that Satan
(03:35):
fears the weakest Christian on his knees, on her knees,
Satan fears.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Our prayers.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Prayer is our lifeline to the battle lines, is our
communication with God himself. And this call to prayer is
a call to pray in the spirit, which is to
pray in As the old Gospel song says it, put
(04:06):
on the Gospel armor, put on each peace with prayer,
as we stand up, as we suit up, as we
show up every day, and pray to stay alert and
never stop fighting, to never stop fighting for our faith,
(04:28):
the faith once delivered to the saints. Never stop fighting
for our families, never stop fighting for our freedoms in Christ,
never stop fighting for our future, the future of our souls,
our very souls. That we resist the flaming eras the
fiery darts of the wicked one.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
We can't fight these battles alone. The battle is the Lord's.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
But we can, through the strength of Christ, be overcomers
and not be overcome. Now that we are under the
army armor, we're in the armor. We're ready to fight.
And how we to fight these spiritual battles. It's a
simple truth. It's a strategic battle plan. Pray now, I
want you to notice in this passage of scripture the
(05:19):
four alls that are present, because we're going to build
this message on these four alls, a double l all.
In verse eighteen, we've already been told to put on
the whole armor of God, all the armor of God.
But now in prayer, we're to pray first with all
prayer and supplication, meaning all kinds of prey, and with
(05:43):
specific requests. The word supplication or petition there means specific requests.
So often our prayers are so general we don't know
if God answered them or not.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
But when we.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Pray specific and strategically, we know when the answer comes.
So all prayer, then again in verse eighteen, at all times,
all prayers speaks of the fullness of praying all times,
speaks of the frequency of praying, all perseverance in verse eighteen,
(06:22):
again all perseverance, speaking of the fortitude the focus of
our praying. And then verse eighteen for all the saints,
all all all the fullness of victorious pray, the frequency
of victorious pray, the focus and fortitude of victorious praying,
(06:45):
and the fellowship of victorious pray.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
So let's talk about this.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
First of all, all prayer in the spirit speaking of
the frequency of victorious praying.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
All kinds of prayer at all times.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Different kinds of prayers enable us to pray anytime, anywhere.
It's good to pray somewhere. It's also even better to
pray everywhere. It's good to pray at one time. It's
better to pray all the time. You say, how is
that possible? Because prayer is like breathing. It's a battle,
(07:28):
but it's also breathing our lifeline. Prayer is worshiping.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
All kinds of prayer.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
It is singing, it is speaking, it is meditating, It
is saying scripture. It is weeping and crying, calling out
to God. It is joyful praise. All kinds of prayers,
short prayers, long prayers, public prayers, private prayers, written prayers,
(08:02):
silent prayers, spoken prayers.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
Group prayers, solitary prayers.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Prayer, prayers of contrition and confession, prayers of gratitude and prayers,
prayers of strength and for strength and sustenance, prayers of affirmation,
and prayers of adoration. When we are confessing our faith
(08:29):
in Christ, we are praying and declaring our faith. That's
prayer again, All prayer, at all times, all kinds of
supplications and prayers.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
This is the frequency. We're to do it all the time.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I like to say, pray your way through the day, from.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
The beginning to the end.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
First thoughts in the morning lifted up to God, and
the last thoughts at night as you pillow your.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Head upon His promises. We're to pray at all.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
Times all things. You remember. One of my favorite comic
strips is It's Peanuts Charlie Brown. Well, you know, Charlie
Brown loved baseball, and he was always trying to get
the game together for a baseball game. And one day Charlie,
who's always the pitcher, was trying to get his team
ready to play. And Lucy says to Charlie Brown, do
(09:23):
you think we ought to pray to win? And Charlie said, well,
I don't know if it would be.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Fair to pray to win.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Well, Lucy said, well, when I'm in right field, I
always pray. Charlie Brown said, what do you pray? And
Lucy said, I pray that they won't hit the ball
to me. About that time, Peppermint Patty comes up and
(09:56):
she says, me too, I always that they won't hit
the ball to me. I just don't want to be
the goat in this game. Then Linus shows up and
Linus says, me too, I'm always praying.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Don't let the ball come to me.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Charlie Brown, He said, well, I'm not going to pray,
and then he throws the pitch and the ball comes
right back at him and just flattens him. And he's
down on the ground looking up in the air, and
he hears the chorus behind me behind him.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
Amen. Amen, Amen, thank you, thank you, thank you. Well,
let me tell you something. We ought to pray to win.
We ought to pray for spiritual battles and victories.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
I assure you the ball is coming your way. I
can assure you that Satan is on the move. Satan
is hurling fiery darts, and we are the targets.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
So we are to pray.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Prayer is the difference between winning and losing life's battles.
Speaker 1 (11:10):

today's message, victorious prayer.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
We're to pray at all times the frequency of this prayer,
and then he speaks of the fullness of this prayer,
what I'm calling the fullness of victorious praying.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
When he talks about all kinds of.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Praying, to keep on praying persevering in prayer wherever you are,
whatever you're doing, always praying verbally silently. You can pray sitting,
You can pray standing. You can pray kneeling. You can
pray laying down, lying down. You can pray exercising, walking, driving.
You can pray with your eyes open, with your eyes shut. Interesting.
(13:02):
Did you know that there are a number of postures
for praying described in the Bible, But not one time
are we told to close our eyes and to bow
our heads like we did now. There's nothing wrong with
closing your eyes and bowing your head. Bowing your head
obviously speaks of reverence to God and humility before God.
(13:22):
And closing your eyes can help you concentrate in the
distractions that are everywhere. But you don't have to close
your eyes to pray. You don't have to fold your
hands to pray. You don't have to pray with a
certain lingo or language or long prayers. You just pray
at all times, anywhere. He's saying here anywhere, on all occasions,
(13:44):
and in all seasons of your life.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Pray wherever you are.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Daniel did it in a lion's den, facing death. Jonah
prayed from the belly of a fish when he was
running from God. Moses prayed in a desert, thinking that
God was finished with him. David prayed in a cave
when he was hiding from Saul. Peter prayed a simple
(14:15):
prayer when he was walking on water and going under help.
One Timothy two to eight says, praying everywhere, lifting up
holy hands.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
So you pray wherever you go, wherever you are, pray at.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
All times in the spirit. Notice that phrase in the spirit.
In the spirit, what does that mean. It means in
partnership and participation with the Spirit. According to Romans chapter eight,
twenty six and twenty seven, the Holy Spirit is our
prayer partner. He is interceding for us and with us.
(14:53):
And the Holy Spirit empowers our prayers just as he
empowers our witnes And so praying in the spirit is
praying along as the Spirit comes along, helping us as
we intercede.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
I'm pointing out to you.
Speaker 2 (15:10):
I hope you're getting it that that prayer is a
lifestyle for the Christian.
Speaker 3 (15:19):
It is who we.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Are, it's what we do, because it's like taking a
walk with Jesus, is having a conversation with our heavenly Father.
Or walking with our dearest friend, the Lord Jesus, and
speaking and talking and listening to God. It's the frequency
(15:43):
of this prayer, all prayer, and all kinds of prayer,
and the fullness of this prayer at all times. But
then there is the focus or what I call the
fortitude of this prayer when he says, speaking with and
praying with all perseverance, we're to be alert with all perseverance.
(16:03):
What did Jesus say in Matthew chapter twenty six, Watch
and pray that you do not enter into temptation.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Jesus said again.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
In Luke chapter eleven, verse nine, as he was speaking
about prayer, ask and seek and not. He said, ask
and it will be given it to you. Seek and
you will find. Knock and it will be opening to you.
And all these are action verbs. Have you ever noticed
that the ask, ask, seek not? It says ask, So
(16:31):
when you ask, you are asking. That's petitioning prayer. And
it literally means keep on asking, keep on asking, keep
on asking till the answer comes with prayer and thanksgiving. Seeking,
Keep on seeking, that is, perceiving prayers. Keep on seeking
(16:58):
the will and the wisdom of God in your keep
doing it and keep knocking, not knock. That's persevering prayer.
That's how we pray. And one Tessonians five seventeen, it says,
(17:18):
pray without ceasing. And Luke chapter eighteen and verse one,
Jesus said, we ought always to pray and not to
lose heart.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
All about.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
Praying constantly and continually, and this is with perseverance. The
old timers used to talk about praying through, you know,
so often in our lives in this instant world, if
we don't get an answer to the next ten fifteen minutes,
we quit. But wise believers understand that there are times
(17:56):
when you have to just persevere in that prayer and
pray through, and pray until you have prayed. Keep praying
until that prodigal child.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Comes home to his faith.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Pray, Keep praying for that friend who needs God's touch
and God's healing upon his life. Keep praying for that
individual who needs God's salvation, and never give up for
on that person who seems so far away from God.
Keep praying for your loved ones and your friends who
are gripped with some kind of a Satanic stronghold, addiction
(18:31):
or habit or sinful behavior in their lives. Keep praying,
keep praying through for those who are hell captive by
the enemy. This is warfare prayer. You would think, you
would think as we get more mature in our faith,
(18:52):
as we get older in the Christian life, as we
grow closer to God, that it would get easier, that
the battles would not be quite so hard. But the
fact is it doesn't get easier. The satanic attacks they
(19:12):
keep on coming. We're always in fact, if you're growing
in your faith, the devil loves a shining mark. Paul
himself here asks for prayer, the greatest Christian who ever lived.
He wasn't beyond the desire for prayer and the need
(19:36):
for prayer in his life. He was pressing it on
to the final victory in Jesus. And yet he's saying,
pray for me, Pray for me, Pray for me. One
final all that we see here, and that is pray
for all the saints. See it there in verse eighteen.
This is the highest level of praying. In his intercession.
We certainly are to pray personal prayers. Jesus counseled us
(19:58):
in praying that we are to pray for daily bread.
But even in that, it's not selfish because Jesus said,
give us this day our daily bread. So often our
prayers are too inward and is a kind of psychosis,
if you will. But prayers should never be selfish, or
(20:20):
self centered, or preoccupied with self interest. A soldier fights
with and for his fellow combatants. Right, we're in this together.
We're fighting alongside of one another. And hear me, the
greatest thing that you can do for another person, the
(20:42):
greatest thing you can do for someone else is to
pray for them, to pray for them. Yes, pray for ourselves,
but pray primarily for others. Pray for all the saints.
We are all targets of the enemy, and we are
to care about those who are fighting with us. Are
(21:05):
you in the battle.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Now? Paul himself asked for prayer support.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
He said, look at verse nineteen, as he said, praying
for others, he said, and pray.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
For me.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
To do what that I would have boldness and clarity
and courage to proclaim the gospel. The great Apostle was
strong and courageous and a mighty warrior. But he asked
for the prayers of God's Church that he would speak
(21:44):
in the word here boldly. He says he uses it twice.
It really means to speak freely. It means to be outspoken,
to be unafraid, to be fearless, to be courageous. Someone said,
courage is fear. That is said, it's prayers, and that's
(22:06):
what Paul desires. And I can tell you for those
of us who preach the Gospel to all of you,
I would ask you to pray for us. I would
ask you to pray for me, because prayer is the
most powerful force on earth. And the longer I serve God,
(22:26):
the more I appreciate and value the innercessions of God's people.
As pastors, we are under spiritual attack. Some of you
watching online, you have a church, you have a pastor.
So what I'm about to say is not just for
this pastor, but all the pastors. People often come to
(22:48):
me and say, I'm praying for you, or how can
I pray for you? All right, here's how you can
pray for me or your pastor. Number One, Pray for
God's favor upon our lives, that we would preach, lead
and work in the power of God. Ask God that
he would give your pastor anointing and authority in the
(23:08):
word of God. Secondly, pray for your pastor's spiritual energy
and relationship with Christ.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
I want to walk in integrity and live what I preach.
Pray that for me.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Thirdly, pray for your pastor's heart, my heart for lost people. Fourthly,
pray for my leadership that we would make good decisions.
Pray for every pastor. And fifthly, pray for your pastor's family,
because if the devil attacks a pastor, he certainly would
attack their family. Then lastly, pray for our physical health
(23:48):
and strength. It takes a lot of energy to do this.
If God brings a pastor to mind, maybe it's a
report that a pastor is struggling or a church is
having a hard time. Be careful about criticizing and pray
for Because Paul himself said, pray for me, I unapologetically
(24:08):
ask you pray for me.
Speaker 1 (24:12):

Speaker 2 (25:31):
It is, when you think about it, the greatest privilege
in life to be able to communicate and talk to God.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
And that's what prayer is.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
I think many people mistakenly think that prayer is the
words that we say or formulas that we express, but
no prayer is your communion, your conversation with God. We say,
the Christian life is a relationship with God. It's not
a religion. It's a relationship with Jesus Christ, and it
is and every relationship I must be cultivated by conversation,
(26:02):
by communication, and prayer is the way God communicates with us.
And we communicate with God. Simply put, it is simply
talking to God. And I've found in my own life
in whatever means I take. Sometimes I've journaled my prayers.
Sometimes I have gotten on my knees to pray. Other
Times I have prayed behind the steering wheel of my car.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
I have prayed.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I've prayed when my sons were playing football on that
athletic field. I've prayed at all times, and I've prayed
at certain times. But through and through my life, I've
discovered that there truly is energizing power in prayer. And
it's just foolish to miss the presence of God and
the power of God through prayer. I know I am
(26:46):
dependent upon the prayers of God's people. I'm so thankful
for so many of you who support this ministry and
you pray for us, you pray for me and that
the Word of God would go out in power. I
can't tell you what that does from me. The importance
of prayer and the obedience of prayer is absolutely vital
for our Christian living. Amazing things happen when people pray.
(27:09):
He connects people's lives, He connects us in the work,
He connects us with Him, and life changes when we pray.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
And that is today's power Point. Remember when you give
