Speaker 1 (00:03):
Welcome to this edition of PowerPoint with Jack Graham. A
little later in the program, we'll tell you how you
can get a copy of a devotional on fifty two
questions every believer should answer. But first, here's the message,
the Living Word of.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
God Hebrews, Chapter four and verse thirteen. For the Word
of God is living and active, sharper than any two
edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit,
(00:39):
of joints and of Marah, and discerning the thoughts and
intense of the hearts. Speak with me for a few
moments today on the Living Word of God. The greatest
(01:02):
experience decision I've made in my life, apart from my salvation.
So greatest salvation is when I begin to allow the
Living Word of God to breathe in me, to breathe
on me. I've had a Bible since I was a
(01:25):
small child and have loved God's Word. It's been a
lamp to my feet, a light to my path all
the days of my life, and all these years later,
my love for God's Word has only grown exponentially powerfully
in my life as I became a student of God's Word,
(01:48):
then a serious student of God's Word, because through out
our lives, God's Word teaches us in order to transform us.
Not for knowledge sake, but for wisdom's sake. There is knowledge,
(02:09):
there is understanding, and yes, there is wisdom, and wisdom
is in the Word of God. I have been blessed
by the Bible. This book we call it the Scriptures,
the Holy Scriptures, the Holy writings. The Bible has been
(02:30):
described as a hammer. The Bible is called a seed.
But my favorite term for this book actually library of
sixty six books the Bible. My favorite terminology for this
book is the Word of God, because that's what it is.
(02:52):
It has blessed us and encouraged us, and comforted us,
and strengthened us, and challenged us, called us, convicted us.
Is all this and so much more. It is our
our book of books. The Bible is not just another book.
It is the book. It is not men's work. It
(03:18):
is God's work. What God has said in his Word.
It is not just an inspiring book, as some books
may be inspiring. It is the inspired book. Segativisey three
(03:39):
tells us that this Word of God is all inspired,
all inspired. That means that God breathe thou just hear
the word inspire. Hear the word expire breathed out by God,
(04:02):
the same God who spoke and the world came into being,
spoke and his word came into be. The same God
and creator, our Lord, Jesus Christ, who created the heavens
(04:22):
and the earth. He is even described in John chapter
one as the word of God. Amazing isn't it that
Jesus identifies himself with his word. Jesus the word of
God in his humanity. Like the book, the Bible is
(04:43):
a book with human authors, but supernaturally breathed by God,
Jesus himself in his humanity, and yet supernaturally conceived by God.
Jesus and his book. They are not identical, but they
are inseparable, and the story of the Bible is the
(05:04):
story of Jesus all the way through both Old Testament
and New Testament. Two disciples were discouraged, despondent on a
road outside of Jerusalem on the way to Emmaeus, when
someone began walking next to them. They didn't identify who
(05:26):
the someone was, but the someone was Jesus Risen. Somehow
they could not identify him for whatever reason. Perhaps they're unbelief,
Maybe the tears in their eyes. Who knows, But they
didn't know that they were walking with a risen lord.
And the Bible says that as they were discussing the
scriptures and what had happened in Jerusalem with the cross
(05:51):
of our Lord Jesus Christ Is, they were discussing all
of this. Jesus, according to Luke chapter twenty four, began
in the prophets, in the Patriarchs, with Moses and the prophets,
and he showed them in all the scriptures, and of
course at that time these were Old Testament scriptures. He
(06:15):
showed them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Jesus is the fulfillment of everything written before he came.
He is prophesied, he has promised, and he came, and
he showed them as he has shown us in the scriptures,
those things concerning himself, because our Lord walks with us
(06:40):
when we walk in the word. And those disciples, after
Jesus identified himself and left them, they ended up saying,
did not our hearts burn within us when we walked
with him in the way. Their hearts were burning, ignited
(07:07):
by the presence of Christ and the power of his word.
That's how Revival comes today. The Psalmist said in Psalm
one hundred and nineteen, revive me, o, Lord, according to
your word. And when we are obedient to the Word
(07:32):
of God and dependent upon the God of the Word,
then something stirs within us. Revival comes. The word revived
means to make alive, to live again. And the embers
the fires that was down to just hardly anything revived
(07:57):
within the hearts of these two despondent disciples on that road.
And the same thing can happen to us when we
walk with Him in the word. Three things about this word.
The word of God is alive. The word of God breathes,
(08:27):
pulsates life. It not only is life. Whoever heard of
a book being alive? But this book, because God's word
is alive, breathes life in and through his word. A
(08:47):
supernatural book written by human authors, for sure, but each
of the authors were carried, as the scripture says, controlled
by the Holy Spirit, and the words that were written
and preserved the promise or the miracle of inspiration, the
(09:09):
miracle of preservation, as God not only gave us his word,
but kept his word. And we have in our hands.
I can assure you I've been studying the Bible seriously
now for many years, and I'm not hot finding hidden
flaws and eras. I'm finding hidden beauties and glories in
God's Word because it is alive. Philosophy dies, science can
(09:39):
become extinct. Human ideologies fail, but the Word of God lives.
It is true, it is trustworthy, and yes, it is timeless.
The eternal word of God God Forever, Your word, O Lord,
(10:02):
is settled in Heaven forever time, past, time, present, time, future.
And Peter the Apostle, quoting Isaiah the Prophet, said, the
grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of
(10:27):
our God shall stand forever. Why because it's alive. God's
word could not die anymore than God himself could die.
Why why would I preach the Bible? The question is
why would I preach anything else? Because the Word of
(10:52):
God is alive. Human words die, they fail, but God's
word lives.

Now let's get back to today's message, the living Word
of God.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
And then not only is the Word of God alive,
but the Word of God is active. Do you see
that in the verse the Word of God alive and active.
Interesting Greek word, here's a word which means.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Energy, power, electric, explosive.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
Kind of energy. When JB. Phillips, a Bible scholar, was
translating and giving us a New Testament called the JB.
Phillips Version of the New Testament, it was a paraphrase,
but he described the process of dealing with the text
(13:09):
the Greek text, and doctor Phillips later testified he said,
you know, as I was dealing with God's word in
this way, I felt like I was rewiring an old
house with the electricity still on. This book is wired.
(13:36):
It's wired with the power of God. And this power
is an awesome power because it's his power. The same
power that raised Jesus from the grave is the power
that gave us this book, this word. It is a
(14:02):
power that will convert. The Bible has power to convert.
Hebrews chapter ten and verse seventeen. Faith comes by hearing
and hearing by the word of God. There's power to cleanse.
(14:32):
The Bible is like a spiritual bath. Jesus said in
John chapter fifteen that we are sanctified. That means to
be made holier, to be made clean by God's words.
John fifteen and verse three saw I'm one hundred and nineteen,
and verse nine says, how will a young man, how
(14:52):
will a teenager? How will a young twenty something cleanse
his way? How would anyone walk in purity in an
impure world? Day? By giving attention, paying attention, it says,
to your word, O Lord, according to your word, by
guarding it, guarding my heart and my affections. According to
your word. There's cleansing power and protective power, preventative power
(15:21):
in God's word. It will cleanse you and make you whole.
There's correcting power in God's word. That's why later on
in this same verse chapter four of Hebrews, in verse twelve,
it says that that it has the power to penetrate
the inner recesses of our heart, of our soul. And
(15:44):
that's talking about how the sword of the spirit, like
a scalpel, uncovers us and displays all that which is there,
opens us up to the pure, holy gaze of God.
And it is in that that we are corrected. We
see our sin and our sinfulness. And when we open
God's word we see areas of our lives where we
(16:07):
have not been open to His will, or areas in
our life where we have not been obedient to his will,
and that's a moment in which God cleanses us, and
then the Word of God comforts us. Proverbs fifteen, part
of me Romans fifteen and verse four. The Bible speaks
of the encouragement or the comfort of the spirit when
(16:35):
your heart is breaking and you don't know where to
go and where to turn, when you are grievy and
so sad, where do you go? Friends and family can help,
(16:55):
the Church can seek to comfort, but ultimately we run
to the Word because in God's word there is hope
and happiness in him. There's the comforting power of the word.
(17:18):
When we are discouraged, he encourages us with his word.
It's power to change your life because the spirit of
God takes God's word and it changes you from the
inside out. One final word, and that is not only
(17:44):
is the Word of God alive and active, but the
Word of God is accurate. When it says like a sword,
a two edge sword. Of course, the sword was carried
by Roman soldiers in this day, and the sword mentioned
here the very word does not mean a long saber
(18:06):
like sword, but it's a short, almost knife like sword
about eighteen inches long. And the Roman soldiers carried them
on their buckle. When Paul was describing our spiritual warfare,
he talked about the sword of the spirit on the
garb of a Roman soldier, the helmet and the breastplate
(18:28):
and the leggings and all the rest, and he spoke
of the sword of the Spirit. So this Roman soldier
would carry a sword because in most battles it was
hand to hand combat. It was up close and very
personal and very dangerous. And so they carried this sharp,
two edged sword cuts you come and cuts you going.
(18:53):
And God's Word is like that sword is It is
accurate in that it penetrates, pierces into the depths of
our souls, into our very hearts, And it is a
spiritual weapon. The word is a weapon, a powerful piercing weapon.
(19:21):
And it is when we wield our sword and use
the spiritual weapon in spiritual battles, the sword of the spirit,
which is what the word of God. When we know
how to use our sword, we win victory after victory.
You know how to use your sword, you better be equipped,
(19:47):
You better carry your sword. Where is your sword when
you go to work? Do you keep it in the
sheath or you keep it back home on the mantle
somewhere you keep it on display to polish it, or
do you ca the sword of the spirit, which is
the Word of God. You better carry it with you
and you better learn how how to use it. Do
(20:11):
you know how to use the Word of God? Use
it by number one? Ponder it, think about it, meditate
upon it day and night. As the scripture commands us.
Read it. You say I don't have time to read
the Bible? Really? Did you know it takes fifteen minutes
(20:32):
a day to read through the entire Bible in a year.
How much screen time are you using a day? I
actually know now because of that crazy app that tells
you how much screen time you're using. I was glad
to see this morning that I'm down seven percent from
(20:53):
last week. I'm making progress. How much time do you
spend on your screen? I guarantee he is more than
fifteen minutes. If you're like most people and you can't
give fifteen minutes a day to God's Word just to
even read, come on, you want to develop a muscular faith,
(21:13):
exercise your soul with the Word of God. Ponder it.
I wish I had time to say more than that.
Personalize it, underlying your Bible market journal, make it your
own by memorizing the scripture. This is what Jesus did
when he went one on one in a cage fight
(21:34):
in the desert with the devil. And the devil was
tempting him and subverting his mission, attempting to subvert his mission.
And what did Jesus do. He gave him the word
of God. He took out the sword of the Spirit,
and he ran him through. It is written, it is written,
(21:58):
it is written. The same weapon that Jesus used against
the enemy, he's given to us. And I guarantee you
you will never run out of swords. If your arsenal
is filled with the word of God, personalize it, ponder it,
(22:22):
pray it in pray the word of God, scriptures and promises.
Pray it because the prayer that gets to heaven is
the prayer that starts in heaven, and what started in
heaven is the word of God. Pray according to his word,
(22:43):
and you will always pray according to his will, even
when you don't always know exactly which way to turn.
Here's the point. When you ponder the scriptures and personalize
the scriptures, you don't have to be a scholar or
a seminarian, our preacher. But if you will get the
(23:08):
Word of God in you, then the God of the
Word will fill you and use you and give you
this powerful, mighty weapon against every attack of the enemy.
And then proclaim God's living Word. It's too good to keep.
(23:28):
God has called us to go with this message, this truth.
Sin forth, thy light and thy Truth, the Bible says
in this book, is the message the world needs to hear.
It's the story of God. Is the story of life
and death, about sin and salvation, heaven and hell, and
(23:51):
judgment and eternal life. All here is so much love,
the living Word of God.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Well, let me start by saying that while there are
questions in the minds of skeptics, there's no question in
the Word of God as to the authority, the accuracy,
and the authenticity of the Bible. And one of the
greatest proponents of this fact is the Bible itself. God
tells us throughout his word that the scriptures are trustworthy
and dependable Psalm one hundred and nineteen eighty nine. Says forever,
(25:47):
Oh Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.
And two Timothy three point sixteen says, all scripture is
breathed out by God. So you see the Bible is
not a mystical existential experience, but rather, all scripture is
breathed out from the very heart, mind, and mouth of God.
Each and every word the Bible does not originate with man,
(26:10):
but with God. And when God breathed out the words
of Scripture, he breathed them into human instruments. Nothing was
added that should have been omitted, and nothing was omitted
that should have been added. But don't just take my
word for it. The number one authority on the scripture
is the Lord Jesus himself. He learned the scriptures as
a child and believed them. In fact, we even see
(26:31):
Jesus in scripture referring to some of the very stories
that some people struggle with most often. For example, in
Matthew chapter nineteen, Jesus referred to the creation of Adam
and Eve. In Matthew chapter twenty four, Jesus referred to
the account of Noah and the flood. Of chapter twelve,
Jesus spoke of Jonah in the belly of the fish.
Not only did he believe the account, he attaches his
(26:53):
own resurrection to the reality of Jonah. So you see,
Jesus trusted the scriptures. He believed them and spoke from them,
and you can trust them too. The Bible is in errant,
it is infallible, it is sufficient, and it is supernatural.
I urge you to settle this issue once and for all.
Believe the word of God as Jesus believed.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
And that is today's power Point. Remember when you give
