the Gospel unlike anyone else. It's real refreshing, focused and fun.
Whether you find yourself in a good place, maybe in
a difficult place, or possibly even in a very lonely place,
let me encourage you that you've come to the right
(00:22):
place now. If you're not able to stick around with
us for all of today's talk, you can always listen,
to download and even share this entire message with a
friend right from our website Richard Ellis Talks dot com.
So with today's talk, here's Richard Ellis.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
The title today's message.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Is just face it, and I want you to turn
to Psalm twenty seven. And I've tried all week long
to go somewhere else and I can't go anywhere else.
So we're going to Palm twenty seven because it's been
on me all week.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
So we're gonna dump it on you. Now.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
You know, it's fine for you to have stuff in
your life. It's fine for you to have challenges. It's
fine for you to have struggles and pressure and situations
at work or at home or wherever you are, and
that's normal.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
But if you get in a situation.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
And you have a friend or someone even has the
right or the place or the relationship with you to
say something like this, if you say, well, this is
going on my life, and they come back and say, well,
just face it, just deal with it.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
It's life. But you know that's not what God left
us to do. He didn't leave us alone.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
He put a body of believers on the planet, so
you don't have to do this alone. But even if
you can't get to a believer, even if you find
yourself without a Christian somewhere, there is someplace you can go.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
There is somebody you can go to that has.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
The biggest arms in the universe, the strongest hands in
the universe, and a peace and a joy and everything
you're looking for he's got. Sometimes it helps to have
somebody else help you just face it. But I want
you to see here in Psalm twenty seven, this is
an exciting psalm.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I mean, this is an unbelievable deal.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
This is David expressing his faith in God, his joy,
his just delight with God, basically. And I started this
week where it hit me about Monday or Tuesday, and
then Tuesday we.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
Have a staff meeting.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
And with everything that can go on in your life,
everything that goes on in a church, you know, sometimes
we just get busy, and some of you guys are
involved in very exciting stuff. You're real busy, you're real excited.
Maybe it's stressful, but it's a good kind of stress,
and it's all very exhilarating, and there's adrenaline, rushes and
all these things go with it. But let me tell
you something, no matter what you got going, no matter
(02:32):
how great the relationship, no matter how new the car,
no matter how great the new boss or the new
job or whatever it may be, no matter how exciting
even God's work is. There are a lot of people
that get so excited about doing stuff for God and
seeing God use them. But let me tell you something.
You peel all that back, you strip it all down.
(02:52):
There's nobody like him. There's nobody more exciting, there's nobody
more awesome, there's nobody more beautiful. And if you got
to put it all down and say God, if I
got to pick between you and even your work, I'll
take you any day to be with Him, Just to
(03:13):
be with you only to be with you. I think
one of the great frustrations about being married sometimes is
you can be married and be so busy you can't
be married. And there's times every once in a while
when Rebecca and I get alone and maybe there's not
even a lot of words said it and about sex.
It't about anything, It's about being with her. It's about
(03:36):
seeing her face. And when you can think of anything
that you would trade in on that with God, you're
in trouble when you say, God, I can't take it anymore.
My life is exciting and it's busy in all this,
but I just got to be with you.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I gotta see you. I gotta know you're there and
that you love me, and I got to reconnect. You
know what.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I don't like going places where I can't see people.
I don't want to listen, and I want to see
your eyeballs. I want to be with you. There's nothing
more frustrating.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
If out on a date.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Some of you women maybe have experienced this a minute
can happen to you too. But you're with some guy
and you're standing there talking, you're at a party, and
he's looking you in the eyes, and all of a
sudden you realize he's not looking you in the eyes,
and something else walks by, someone else walks by, and
all of a sudden, the eyes track and the whole
time that he supposedly asks you to go somewhere with him,
(04:28):
the old time he's with you, he's really not with you,
and you just want to reach up and grab him
by the ears.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
And say, look at me, focus on me, be with me.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
And I think sometimes God wants to reach down and
gently grab us by the ears and say, why are
you looking at everybody else and going everywhere else?
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Why don't you just be with me? Why don't you
just face it? Why don't you just face me and see?
Speaker 3 (04:56):
We're afraid to facing why because we show up with
all our crap and we're terrified that if we look
him in the eyes, we're going to see ourselves for
who we are.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
But you know what the scripture says, to come boldly
haul all that in there. Now.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Let me tell you a no brainer. This is a
no brainer statement. God is after you, God is after me.
And there's no way anybody with a brain or any
kind of wisdom or knowledge or inside at all could
ever mistake this. God has left heaven, and he has
come to earth, and he has lived a perfect life.
(05:31):
He has died on a cross, he has been buried,
raised him a dead, shed his blood suffered. Did everything
to say I want to be with you.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
I want you. I don't want anybody else. I want you.
And then he gives us the faith and the opportunity to.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
Respond and say I want you to and we have
this mutual agreement to go after each other. But the
devil is a snake, and what he does to me
as a pastor is he says, Okay, you want to
do the God thing. You can do all the God
stuff you want to do. You just can't go to God.
You can't be with him. You can do stuff for him,
(06:07):
but you can't be with him. And we settle for
that in church pastors, religious people. But sooner or later, guys,
you got to remember that. You got to keep the
main thing, the main thing. My job somehow is to
point to you to a holy, awesome, living, powerful God.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
You don't need me, You need.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Him because if you ever see him, and you know
he sees you, and you lock eyes with this God,
you won't go back easy. And if you go back,
you'll never forget those eyes, and I'm going to try
to read through this Psalm twenty seven, Verse one. Now,
this is not just poetry that someone wrote to sell
a book.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Okay, David was not trying to get a.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
Few chapters in the Bible so he'd be a part
of the bestseller of all time.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
This stuff is from his heart.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
This stuff is who he is in spite of his flaws,
his mistakes through his life. But David says, the Lord
is my light and my salvation. Without light, there's darkness
without salvation.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
You're lost.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
The Lord is my light and my salvation. Therefore, what
whom shall I fear? If the Lord is your light,
he's your salvation. You got nobody to fear. Who are
you going to be afraid of?
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Now?
Speaker 3 (07:20):
See if you're somewhere else besides with him, then you
start seeing what there is to be afraid of, and
you focus on that, and then you get afraid.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Who am I going to be afraid of?
Speaker 3 (07:28):
When he's my light, he's my salvation. Look at the
last half of verse one. The Lord is the strength
of my life.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
Of whom shall I be afraid?
Speaker 3 (07:38):
When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
my enemies and my foes, they stumbled and fell. Though
an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not
fear the war may rise against me. Look at all
these means. He's like if a whole army came after me.
In this, I will be confident. What is he going
(07:58):
to be confident? That the Lord is the strength of
his life. The Lord is his life is salvation. There's
no reason to be afraid. If you would spend more
time with God, you'd spend less time in fear. Why
is it that he is the last face that we
go to when we're just trying to face life. Go
to him first, Start with him. The scriptures replete with
(08:18):
this stuff. Early in the morning. I will seek you morning,
noon and night. You're doing something by yourself. God never
intended for you to do alone. You don't have to
live in fear. You don't have to live with these
doubts and the terror that comes from being threatened by
enemies on the outside. I let givet verse four. You
know before verse four, I'm going to tell you something.
(08:40):
Somebody wants you dead. Somebody wants to steal everything you've got,
kill you, physically, destroy you, eternally if they can. I've
been talking to people all this week and people have
been getting hammered. You know how you start fighting with
other people and you think, what is going on? Why
am I so agitated?
Speaker 2 (08:56):
What is this about?
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Why am I irritated and combative with people? The scripture
says that it's not against flesh and blood. My problem
is not you. It is a spiritual battle. You don't
wrestle with flesh and blood. It's principalities and powers and
the rulers of darkness and hypa. It's a spiritual battle.
And the devil comes along and works us and gets
me thinking some about you, and you about me, and
(09:18):
we get at each other's throats and start going to
claw each other's eyes out.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
We are not the problem.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
We are used by the enemy to become the problem
and create problems.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
But that's not the problem. I know.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
The devil wants to steal my family, my children, everything
I've got, wrecked my life. That is his plan for
my life. But on the other hand, what are you
willing to go through? If God says I got to
let this happen to reach somebody, because see, God's got
a category for this, because at some point a decision
had to be made before the world was ever existed,
(09:50):
where a deal was made and Jesus said, I'll go,
I'll do it.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
I'll be in the wreck, but you know what, I'll
be in the wreck.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
And I'll die because I got die or they're not
going to make it. So God has a category for this.
If you are alive and breathing, you have been protected
by God every day of your life. Every second is
a gift. And if you are alive and you are breathing,
then let God do something through you. Don't waste your life,
(10:18):
don't let it evaporate the only life you've got. So
no matter who comes to get you, he says in this,
I will be confident verse four. One thing I have
desired of the Lord.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Now let me tell you something.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
When somebody in the Bible says one thing, narrows it
down to one thing.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
You better read it again.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Because David says, one thing I have desired of the Lord,
and that will I seek one thing I've desired, And
that's what I'm going to go after. And here's the
answer to it. That I may dwell in the house
of the Lord all the days of my life, to
behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in
his temple, for in time of trouble, he will hide
(10:58):
me in his pavilion, in the secret place of his tabernacle,
he will hide me, and he'll set me high upon
a rock. It's a picture of protection. But before it's
a picture of protection, guys. In verse four, and I
highly recommend this you read the whole Bible. Revelation is
full of some great stuff. Though I don't have any way,
even trying to read the scriptures themselves, I have no
(11:20):
way to describe to you the beauty of God, just
the sheer visual that it is going to be one day.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
And you say, well, I don't want to miss that.
Let me tell you the good and the bad news.
You will see him, and more than seeing him.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
When you see him, your knee will bow, and you
will exclaim with everything that's ever breathed that Jesus is
Lord to the glory.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
Of God, the Father. You won't get out of that.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
The issue is will you do it now before you
see him, instead of having to see and then, having
seen him, never be able to see him again and
be cast into outer darkness.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
As the Bible describes it.
Speaker 3 (11:52):
I would bow now while it's voluntary, and I would
yield my life now, and I would begin to enjoy
him now so that it's not such a shock.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
Then there's a passage in one Corinthians ten.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
The middle of it says, now we see through a
glass darkly. It's like a stained glass window. You see movement,
but you can't make it out. And then it says
ever this, but.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
Then face to face.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
I have a day coming when the God of the
universe is going to be right here, face to face
with me, and I will see him. I will look
into those eyes that have loved me so long. Let's
read again one thing I have desired the Lord. That
will I seek that I may dwell in the House
of the Lord.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Now, let me ask you a question. Where is the
house of the Lord today? Now? I want you to
think about this.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
Because there are churches that call the building in which
they gather like we are here today. They call them
what sanctuaries. Let me tell you something that is not true.
You cannot go to a sanctuary today. You can be
a sanctuary, but you can't go to a sanctuary scripturally.
There is no place in Jerusalem there is no building
on the planet. People build these churches and call him churches.
(13:01):
You can't technically go to church. All you can do
is be a church. You can gather as a church
in a building that we call a church. But because
we are here, it becomes kind of holy ground, not
because we're here, primly because He's in us, and he's
here the temple, this place is in you.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
If you're a believer, he comes to live in you.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
So when you go to worship God, you don't have
to go find him in heaven somewhere.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
He's decided to live in you.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
So one thing I have decided the Lord, that while
I seek that I will dwell in the House the
Lord all the days of my life. You want fellowship,
you want to see him, you want to know him.
He is right here. You can be with him anywhere, anytime,
worship him. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.
There is no limit to where and when you can
worship God. To behold the beauty of the Lord, and
to inquire in his temple, not just to seem, but
(13:48):
to talk to him, to ask questions, to get answers,
spend time with them. Go down to verse six and
Now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies
all around me. Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy
in his tabernacle. I will sing, Yes, I will sing
praises to the Lord. Hear, O, Lord, when I cry
with my voice, have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
(14:11):
When you said, and listen where this came from from? God,
God said to David, seek my face, and he says
the same thing to us today, Richard, you, whoever you are,
seek my face.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
That's what God. Don't go to work for me.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
See, my contention is, if you've sought his face, you
will be involved in letting him work in and through you.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
It is inevitable.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
You can't stop that because you can't see him without
seeing what he wants to do in and through your life.
And if you're going after him, it means you're willing
to find him and to see him and then to let.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
Him work through you.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
When you said verse eight, seek my face, my heart
said to you your face, Lord, I will seek. You
want me to seek your face, Then it's your face
that I'm after. Do not hide your face from me.
Do not turn your servant away in anger. You have
been my help do not leave me nor forsake me.
In the the New Testament promises, he said, I will
never leave your forsake you. So he's not going to
(15:03):
do that, Oh God of my salvation.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Now I don't know how.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Personal it is and to who this is going to,
but Verse ten literally says, when my father and my
mother forsake me, and it's getting pretty bad when that happens.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
But there are.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
People when they accept Christ, when they follow, when they
see God's face, their family turns away from them. Literally,
their mom and their dad say, you know what, it's
either God or us. If it's God, goodbye. And there
are cultures on this planet. When you seek God, when
you turn to him, when you acknowledge him, when you
trust him, when you believe and yield your life to him,
your family, there are families that have funeral services.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
You are dead. I let me tell you some guy
that's expensive.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
But David says, my father and mother forsake me, then
the Lord will take care of me. Now you think
your friends abandon you is tough. You talk to somebody
who's been abandoned by their mother and their father. You're alone,
But David says, I'll be all right, then the Lord
will take care of me. You can never be alone,
no matter who's left you. You cannot be alone, and
(16:04):
you're not going to be abandoned if you'd go to
him Verse eleven. Teach me you're a way, o Lord,
and lead me in a smooth path because of mine
enemies do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
For false witnesses have risen against me.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Anybody ever had anybody say something about you it wasn't true, David,
had I have? For false witnesses have risen against me,
and such as breathe out violence. They want to kill me.
I look at verse thirteen, and I, knowing all, identify
with this. David says, I would have lost heart unless
I had believed that I would see the goodness of
the Lord and the land.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Of the living.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
I'd have given up unless I had believed. If you
do not believe, you will lose heart. If you do
not turn to God, you will lose heart. You will
not be able to face it until you get face
to face with him. Now, what is so amazing about this?
You come back here week after week, You listen to
sermons anywhere, you go over and over if the gospel
of the book's being preached and you know what, you're
(16:56):
hearing the same thing over and over and over again.
Do you know why that is? Because we don't get it?
Because we get it, and we don't get it. We
get it and we go, Okay, I got it, and
I'm going to go do it. In about two or
three days, you do it, and then you stop, You
go why is my life? Oh what happened here? And
then somebody comes back and says, do it again? And
we get reminded. Sooner or later, guys, it's going to click.
(17:19):
You can see some of you literally, this is the
last message you're going to listen to on a tape.
It's the last time you're coming to church. Some of you,
this is it about ten twenty years going to go by.
This was your last chance, your last stop.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
On the orbit through.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
You're like a comment, it's going to be another fifty
years before you come back through. And you're listening and
God's talking to you, and God saying come after me,
and you say, but God, my job, my company, my family,
my wife, this my dad, And he said, I can't
let go of that. And he says, well, it's either
me or them. You say I can't do it, and guys,
you're gone. Some of you are this close to making
(17:54):
it home, or this close from just absolutely bolting from God.
It's a huge deal, and you've got decisions to make
when you get to that place. I would have lost
heart unless I had believed that I would see the
goodness of the Lord and the land of the living.
I look at verse fourteen, Look down at the page.
Verse fourteen. The first word in mine says.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Wait.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
Now, I don't know who this word is for, but
I believe this one word.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
Is for at least one or a bunch of people. Wait. No,
but it's right, it's a right relationship. We're going to
move ahead.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Wait, do the right thing. Wait, don't do it on
this one. It's not time, it's not right. Wait, and
it's a job, you say, but it's a lot of money.
It's a great opportunity. I'll have to compromise some of
my stuff. But uh, you know, I say, wait, don't
make that investment, don't take that job.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
Slow down.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
Wait, and David says, here, wait on the Lord, be
of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Wait, I say, on the Lord now how do you wait?
See if you make it?
Speaker 3 (18:56):
First of all, God says, seek my face, and you say, okay, God,
your face, I'll seek And you find a time and
a place, either every day or someday, wherever it is.
You go find him and you say, God, I'm here,
and I see you. I finally see you. You say, well,
how do you mean seem you seem?
Speaker 2 (19:09):
You get it? By faith? You know he's there.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
You're face to face with the God of the universe,
and you know he's talking to you, and he's trying
to live in you and through you, and you're a
listening and you say, God, this is what I want.
And the second you start to tell him what you want,
you realize you know, no, I don't. I want you
more than even that. And you say, God, I want you,
and he says, then wait on that. I'll get you there.
Just stay with me, hang out with me, be patient
(19:33):
with me. It's a whole lot easier to wait with
him than it is by yourself or a bunch of
people who are trying to say, yeah, go for it.
What the heck, what's the worst thing that can happen?
Sometimes that's what happens.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
The worst thing.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
You should have had him list that, because that's exactly
where you're going to end up. Now, guys, I'm not
trying to beat you over the head. I'm not trying
to work you over. I'm trying to encourage you. Go
find him. Amazed at how much sense your life will
make if you just face it. If you just face
him first, then facing anything else is a cake walk.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Now. Is it always fun?
Speaker 3 (20:10):
Is there any kind of excitement there? And not necessarily,
But that's his call, not mine. But I can face
it a whole lot better after seeing his face. And
my prayer for you that as we gather in a
place like this, that there is a moment in time
through music or whatever it is, through the scriptures, whatever.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Happens, that you get a glimpse that you go, WHOA,
what was that?
Speaker 3 (20:33):
I experienced him? I saw something. I think God was
in the house, and I want him in my house.
And then when you leave, you go I don't want
to do that just Sunday. I want to do that
Monday morning, Monday at lunch all day. I want to
know him. I want to seek him every day. You'll
be amazed how simple your life will become if you'll
just go after him instead of all this other stuff
(20:54):
you're going after.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Try to grab God by the ears.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
And it's hard to do, but try to grab him
by the ears, look him in the eye and say
you said to seek you. It's you that I'm after.
I want to stay right here. I want to dwell
in your house forever.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
You go. Read Psalm I think it's twenty three.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
It ends up that way, and I will dwell in
the house of the Lord forever. It'll take a few
million years just to get used to seeing this awesome
God that knows us and loves us and wants us
to know and love him, and I highly recommend doing
just that.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Before Richard comes back to wrap things up for us today,
I'd like to share a couple important things with you.
Let me encourage you to take a minute and check
out our website, Richard Ellis talks dot com. You'll find
today's talk right there in the talks page, along with
all of Richard's messages. You can even forward them to
a friend so they can hear them too. You'll also

link to connect with us, the contribute page for you
to be able to give to this ministry a radio
station finder, all of our social media links and much
more so. Check it out Richard Ellis Talks dot com.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
And Richard's back.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Now to wrap up today's.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
Talk, let's pray, Father, we thank you so much for
this time, for this place, these people, the most of
all for you, and as amazing as it is to
look around and see just human beings, how intricately you've
made them, or nature itself for the stars. And some
people don't make it past the stars. They worship those
(22:29):
because they can't go beyond that. But Father, when we
get beyond your creation to who you are, your majesty,
your awesomeness, your power, your might, and we see you
for who you are, Lord, it's enough to cause anybody
to bow. And I pray that we would do that
even now, and that we would accept your love for us,
and then accept that we'd accept that love from you, Lord,
(22:53):
and then that you would accept our love for you
in return, and our appreciation and our gratitude, and that
we wouldn't be in a hurry to get away, but
that we would long to linger in your presence and
before your face, to see you and to talk with
you and to get to know you, not just things
about you. Father, thank you so much for loving us,
(23:13):
for being our God, and for making us your people
the sheep of your pasture, and for your protection, for
your love, for your mercy, your grace.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
That all these things are new every morning. Father.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
For those who are listening today, they don't have a clue,
but something about what's been said today has triggered something
in their heart and their life. And maybe for the
first time ever, with all the information, of the little
information they have, they at least know that you love them,
and that this Jesus died for them, that this God
loves them, and he is the God, the one and
only true God. And they'd reach out the hands of
(23:48):
their heart and say, God, you see who I am
and who I'm not, and that I need you desperately.
I'm a sinner. I've screwed up, and I need forgiveness.
And I believe that Jesus died on that cross, shed
his blood to pay for my sin, to be buried
and raised from the dead, to provide a place for
me in heaven that he offers as a free gift.
And I accept the forgiveness of my sins, and I
(24:09):
receive this gift of eternal life that you offer freely,
and I ask you to come in and not just
save me from an eternity separated from you in a
real hell, God, but save me from myself, from this life.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
From the things that so easily entangle me.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
And though I slip and fall or even deliberately jump,
thank you that you're going to come after me, and
that you'll never leave me, You'll never forsake me. And
I'm always welcome in your house because you have made
me your house. You truly are the awesome God. And
we thank you even for your presence with us this
day in this place, and thank you that we don't
(24:46):
leave you here and you don't leave us here. That
you promised to go with us, to be with us
and to live in and through us, and we expect
to see the results of that, and we anticipate that
this day, this week, and we thank you and praise you,
pray it all in Jesus' name.
