Speaker 1 (00:09):
Good morning, welcome to stand on the word. Thanks for
joining me this morning today. Jeremiah chapter fourteen, verse twenty two.
Are there any among the idols of the nations that
can cause rain? Or can the heavens give showers?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Are you not? He? Oh Lord, our God?

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Therefore we will wait for you, since you made all
of these. Now, the headlines I read in a recent
National Public Radio article was this quote, here's how climate
change fueled the Los Angeles fires. Now that's more of
a declaration that it is a headline. But frankly, it
summarizes the response to almost any natural disaster that takes

(00:49):
place today. But it's gone beyond that, even to justifying
acts of terrorism such as the slaughtering of Christians in
Nigerian And I know this from first down experience and
speaking to actually Secretary of State in the previous administration
explaining away the religious targeting of Christians as the result
of the scarcity of resources fueled by climate change. So

(01:12):
question for you this morning, are people responsible for climate change?

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Well, here's my answer.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Yes, but not in the way that the NPR and
those on the left claim.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
So stick with me.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
We're going to read about it here in chapter fourteen
of Jeremiah.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
We're going to talk.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
He talks about climate change, all right. This message of
Jeremiah begins here in chapter fourteen, but it continues over
into chapter fifteen as well. Now this draft the drought
rather excuse me. This drought began in the latter end
of Josiah's reign, and it continued into the reign of
Johoi Kim. Now, God, through his profits he warns, then

(01:55):
sends lesser judgments.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
You know, he warns that, hey, this is coming.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Then he sends these kind of lesser judgments when the
warnings are not heated, and out of desire to lead
the people to repentance, which would avert the punishment and
the judgment that His righteousness demands. Let's look at verse one,
chapter fourteen, the word of the Lord that came to
Jeremiah concerning the droughts. Judah mourns and her gates languish.

(02:19):
They mourned for the land, and the cry of Jerusalem
has gone up. Their nobles have sent for their lads
for water. They went to the cisterns and found no water.
Remember those broken cisterns that they had. They returned with
their vessels empty. They were ashamed and confounded and covered
their heads because the ground is parched, for there is

(02:41):
no rain in the land. The plowmen were ashamed, they
covered their heads. Yes, the deer also gave birth in
the field, but left because there was no grass. They
gave birth and just left their babies because there was
no grasp because there was a drought. And the while
donkeys stood in the desolate heights, they sniffed at the
wind like jackals their eyes because there was no grass. Now,

(03:03):
during the time that the children of Israel entered into
the Land of Promise, there were, as we read in
the Old Testament. If you count them up, there were
about ten famines that occurred roughly.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Over to millennia.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
These were associated with the chastisement, the correction, and the
judgment of God. Nearly one hundred times in scripture you
see the judgment of God accomplished by sword, famine, and pestilence.
Now we've not gotten to the Book of Ezekiel yet,
but we will soon. I want to read from Ezekiel five,

(03:38):
verse fifteen. You shall be a reproach and a taunt,
a warning, and a whrror to the nations all around you,
when I execute judgments on you in anger and fury
and with furious rebukes, I am the Lord. I have spoken.
Now listen, when I send against you the deadly arrows
of famine, arrows of destruction, which I will send to

(04:00):
destroy you. And when I bring more and more famine
upon you and break your supply of bread, I will
send famine and wild beast against you, and they will
rob you of your children. Pestilence and blood shall pass
through you, and I will bring the sword upon you.
I am the Lord.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
I have spoken.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
So the Lord uses famine as a form of justice,
of judgment, of chastisement, and of course what brings on
famine drought war. Now back to Jeremiah. Jeremiah intercedes for
the people right now. Pay close attention to his prayer
verse seven. O Lord, though our iniquities testify against us,

(04:40):
so he says, look, you can see we're guilty. Our
iniquity testifies against us.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
It's the evidence we see that today.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Do it for your namesake, for our backslidings are many.
We have sinned against you. Now this is very important
because it is a structure of intercessory prayer that we
see repeated throughout the Bible, and we would do well
to follow. Jeremiah identified with and took responsibility for the
sin of the people. We can't stand aloof and not

(05:10):
identify with what is happening in the church and in
our country. We can't say, you know, God, you know,
look what they're doing. Jeremiah identified with.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
He was a part of it.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
He lived in this southern kingdom, right, and he was
going to suffer the consequences of the choices made now. Secondly,
don't miss the focus of his prayer, a concern for
the reputation of God. But look what God says, don't
pray for them Verse eleven. Then the Lord said to me,

(05:39):
do not pray for this people for their good. When
they fast, I will not hear their cry. And when
they offer burnt offerings and great offerings, I will not
accept them. But I will consume them by the sword,
by famine, and by the pestilence. Why because they were
not responding to God's chastisement and repenting. The famine was
not judgment. Oka that famine was not the judgment. Judgment

(06:03):
is usually final, all right. These were designed to bring
them to repentance. Some of the things had been happening
in our country over the last twenty years.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Not God's judgment.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
It's God actually chastising us, I think, encouraging us, calling
us to repent and turn to him.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Verse thirteen.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Then I said, ah, Lord, God, behold the prophets. Say
to them, you shall not see the sword, nor shall
you have famine. But I will give you a shored
peace in this place. Now, for every message of repentance
and warning of the judgment of sin that Jeremiah was preaching,
there were false prophets proclaiming it was time to enjoy

(06:45):
the best of life and not to worry about what
the naysayers have to say. Now I want you to
look at the defining characteristics of a false prophet verse fourteen.
And the Lord said to me, the prophets prophesy lies
in my name. I have not sent them, commanded them,
nor spoke to them. They prophesy to you a false vision, divination,

(07:08):
a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart. So
the four things here we see that they lie in
the name of the Lord. They are not sent by God.
They do not speak the word of God. They proclaim
a false vision that comes from their own corrupted heart.
And you know, I've probably used this illustration before, but

(07:29):
it's very appropriate here. Do you know how the Secret Service,
which is responsible for investigating counterfeit counterfeit currency in our country,
determines what is counterfeit? Well, they do not study the
counterfeit currency lot because quite frankly, there's a lot out there.
What they do study is every detail of genuine currency.

(07:52):
So how do we discern a false prophet who is
proclaiming a false vision?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Are you with me? We have to know the word
of God.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
We have to know what God's words, just because he
is not going to counter his word. The canon of
scripture is closed. There's not any new words coming forth.
We have the word of God, and he has told
us what is going to happen. And he is pointed
as to how just hasn't told us exactly when we
must examine what is proclaimed by those around his preachers,

(08:28):
prophets whatever they call themselves. And by the way, I
put myself into this category. As I teach this Bible study,
I encourage you to search the scriptures and see and
make sure that everything I say is in keeping with
the word of God. Now, Paul actually commended the people
of Borea for searching the scriptures to verify what Paul

(08:51):
and Silas were preaching over In Acts chapter seventeen versus eleven,
he says these were more fair minded than those in Thessalonaika,
and that they received the Word with all readiness. They
were eager, they wanted to hear it, and then they
searched the scriptures daily to find out whether these things
were so. So we need to know what is false
by knowing what is true.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
And how do we know what is true?

Speaker 1 (09:15):
We abide in Christ, were in His word, and that's
what this journey. This is why Jesus said, as we
move toward the end of the time, and again, I
think the season he talked about seasons. He didn't give
us a calendar. He gave us seasons, but I think
we're moving in that season. And one thing he repeatedly said,
do not be deceived. So how do we keep from
being deceived? We have to be in the word of God.

(09:36):
We have to know the word of God so that
we can examine every message according to the Word of God.
Back to Jeremiah chapter fourteen, verse fifteen. Therefore, thus, as
the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name,
who I did not send, and who say sword and famine,
shall not be in this land. By sword and famine,
those prophets shall be consumed, and the people to whom

(09:59):
they prophesy shall be cast out into the streets of Jerusalem.
Because of the famine and the sword. They will have
no one to bury them, nor their wives, their sons,
nor their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
This is a warning to the false prophets and those
who listen to them and follow them. Jeremiah then again

(10:21):
appeals to God, interceding for the nation.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Again, his heart is broken for the people.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
He knows what is coming, and he's driven by compassion
to pray and intercede. And that's where we should be today,
not in a condemning, judgmental way, but see pleading for
God's mercy, because we're talking about eternity here.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
We're talking about.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
People that forever and ever will be locked into eternal
damnation unless they come to know the truth and they're
set free through a relationship with Jesus Christ. So we
need to be crying out for God's mercy in this hour.
Verse nineteen. Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul

(11:03):
loaths Zion? Why have you stricken.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Us so that there is no healing for us?

Speaker 1 (11:07):
We looked for peace, but there was no good, and
for a time of healing, and there was trouble. We
acknowledge your Lord, our wickedness and the iniquity of our fathers,
for we have sinned against you. Do not abhor us
for your namesake, do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember,
do not break your covenant with us. Are there any

(11:29):
among the idols of the nations that can cause rain?
Or can the heavens give showers?

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Are you not he o, Lord, our God?

Speaker 1 (11:37):
Therefore we will wait for you, since you have made
all these. Yes, yes, people are responsible for cataclysmic climate change,
but it is not the result of their carbon footprint,
but rather their calloused hearts.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Just as in Jeremiah's day, they were.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
False prophets, right, there are false prophets today, turning people's
eyes and attention away from God and the condition of
their heart. A climate change is real, all right, and
so are the consequences. But global collaboration and surrendering of
national sovereignty the elimination of fossil fuels and the driving

(12:21):
up of energy prices and unemployment will not fix the climate.
It will only intensify the suffering. Here's what's required, all right,
And the Lord's told us. Let's go back to what
Solomon prayed when the temple was dedicated, and the Lord
responded to him, Second Chronicles, chapter seven. Now we're familiar

(12:42):
with verse fourteen, but I'm going to read beginning of
verse thirteen because it is connected to something very specific.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Listen, when I shut.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Up heaven and there is no rain, that's a drought
which leads to famine, or command the locust to devour
the or send pestilence covid.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Nineteen among my people.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
If my people, who are called by my name humble
themselves and pray and seek my face, and turn from
their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, will
forgive their sins and heal their land.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Father, We thank you for your word.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
And I know Lord that this runs counter to the
thinking of modern man, who he thinks has advanced beyond
scripture and has scientific knowledge.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Lord, as we've already read.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Through Jeremiah, they think they have wisdom, but they're foolish.
They have no wisdom because they've rejected your word. Father,
I pray that there would be a revival of your word,
that we would return to your word, we would walk
in your ways, and we would repent, Lord of our sin.
And Lord, may you be merciful to our nation. And
we pray Lord for a visitation of the Holy Spirit

(13:58):
even now.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
And we thank you in Jesus name. Amen.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
All right, thanks for joining me this morning. Until next time,
keep standing.

Speaker 2 (14:07):

the Word.
