Revelation describes this singing and worship that will fill heaven
for eternity. Do you wonder if it might become tiresome
after a few thousand years? Today, on turning point, doctor
David Jeremiah explains from God's word why it will be
just the opposite. Why the longer we're in heaven, the
more we'll have to sing about. With the conclusion of

thankful for your presence when we open the Scripture every day,
whether it's in the morning or at noon, or at night,
maybe for some of you in the middle of the night.
We're happy that you join us. Radio is a wonderful
tool to share the word of God, and we're glad
you're joining with us for today's session. We started yesterday

with part one of a title Date to the Earth,
and we'll finish that up today as we conclude our
study of the fifth chapter the Book of Revelation. You
may want to find your place there. It's a relatively
short chapter in connection with the other chapters in the book,
but we would like you to finish up with us
as we add part two to title Deed to the Earth.

part two of title Deed to the Earth.

Do you remember when we were going through our study
in the Life of Joseph, that we came to chapter
forty nine, And I told you that that chapter was
the chapter in which all of the sons were being blessed.
And do you remember how the blessings were tailor made
for all the sons of Jacob before he died. And
(02:53):
the tailor made blessing for Judah was like this.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Let me read it.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Judah, you are he whom your brother shall praise. Your
hands shall be on the neck of your enemies. Your
father's children shall bow down before you. Judah is a
lion's wealth. From the pray my son you have gone up,
he bows down. He lies down as a lion, and
as a lion who shall rouse him. The scepter shall
(03:18):
not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his
feet until Shiloh comes, and to him shall be the
obedience of the people. What Jacob prophesied to Judah, which
he may not even have understood himself, was this that
out of the tribe of Judah was going to come
the Messiah, who was Jesus Christ himself. And one of
(03:41):
the names for the Messiah is the Lion of the
tribe of Judah. King David was from the tribe of Judah,
and one of the common titles for Jesus while he
was on this earth was the son of David. And
this title speaks of the dignity and the sovereignty, and
the courage and the victory. Do you remember when the
(04:03):
people of Israel wanted to take King Saul and make
him the king. Do you remember the fight they had
over that, and how God warned him against.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
You know what was wrong with that. He was from
the wrong tribe.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
And the reason God resisted that was he knew it
was not in keeping. And everything that happened during King
Saul's reign ended up not doing too well, because you
don't want to violate the prophecy of the scripture. Now,
the Angel and the Elder says to John, don't you worry.
There's somebody here who is worthy to take the scroll.
He comes from the right lineage. He's available to open
(04:37):
the scroll now and unfold it. He's the lion of
the tribe of Judah. That's name number one. Look down
in your bibles and notice the second name. He is
the root of David. Verse five. Behold, the root of
David has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose
its seven seals. Now that's one of the most interesting
terms for Jesus in this whole old text. Let me
(05:00):
explain what I mean. As far as Jesus humanity was concerned.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Jesus had his roots in David.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Remember he came from the tribe of Judah through the
descent of David. David was from the tribe of Judah,
and Jesus was a descendant through David back to the
tribe of Judah. So where were Jesus' roots They were
in David. But notice the text doesn't say his roots
are in David. He said here that he is the
(05:30):
root of David. That puts Jesus back before David in
the ancestry and reverses it.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
Do you see what I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (05:37):
Jesus was both the ancestor of David and his right
Now do you remember that that got Jesus in trouble
once In the New Testament, that whole discussion turn in
your bibles to the Book of Matthew Matthew chapter twenty two,
and look at verses forty one to forty six.

I love this because this is.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
The controversy that got into over this very issue. When
the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, what
think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? And they say,
unto him, the son of David? And he saith unto them.
How then doth David in spirit call him lord? Saying
the Lord said, unto my Lord, sit thou on my
(06:20):
right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. If
David then call him lord, how is he his son?
In other words, they couldn't figure out how David could
both be related to Jesus as the one who came
from Jesus and the one who came before Jesus. Do
you remember what Jesus said on one occasion before Abraham,
(06:41):
was I am Now.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
That is unusual.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
That's not the kind of thing you put together immediately
if you don't know the Bible and don't know Christ.
Jesus was both in his humanity from David and in
his deity before David. He is the root of David.
What a great term for Jesus, as he is about
to take the scroll and unfold the eternal plan of God,
for he is the eternal God himself. But the third
(07:07):
name for the one who is going to unfold the
scroll is the best of all three. Watch what it says.
And I beheld verse six, and lo, in the midst
of the Throne, and in the midst of the four Beasts,
and in the midst of the Elder, stood a lamb,
as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into
(07:28):
all the earth. Here in this passage of scripture, which
is centered in worship, we have Jesus presented as the
lion of the tribe of Judah, as the root of David,
and now as the Lamb who was slain.

I want you to note four things about the Lamb.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Before I give you those four things, let me tell
you that in the Book of Revelation from this point on,
the word lamb referring to Christ is very important. In fact,
the word lamb is in the Book of Revelation twenty
eight times. In this is chapter twenty two, Verse seven.
Do you remember the story when Isaac asked where is
the lamb? And in John one twenty nine, John the
(08:09):
Baptist answered him. It took him a long time to
get the answer, but John the Baptist answered it. He said,
behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin
of the world. Now John is in the Book of Revelation,
and he sees this one about to take the scroll,
which is the title Deed to the Earth. And as
he looks, he sees, first of all, the lion of
the tribe of Judah. Then he sees the root of David.
Now he sees a lamb slain. I want you to
(08:31):
note four things about that lamb. First of all, the
lamb is standing in the midst of the throne. You say,
what's so all fired important about that? Let me say
this to you.

Watch it.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Now, what kind of a position would you expect a
slain lamb to be in standing? A slain lamb doesn't stand.
A slain lamb lays down. The standing of the lamb
who was slain is a picture of the resurrected Christ
in heaven. He has been slain, but he is alive,
(09:01):
and he's standing, and he's standing in the midst of
the throne. In heaven, the Lord is seen as seated,
which signifies that his work of redemption is all done.
But when you see the Lamb standing, be ready because
judgment is about to happen. He's standing now. Is the
resurrected Christ ready to move out from the glory of
(09:24):
Heaven down upon this earth where judgment is going to
break out while he reclaims the earth that belongs to him.
So first of all, the Lamb is standing. Watch that now. Secondly,
the Lamb is slain. At first, this would seem to
be a reminder of his death. In reality, as I've
already mentioned, it is a picture of his resurrection. He
(09:46):
is standing slain, not lying, slain or dead. This also
seems to indicate that the marks of the death of
Jesus will be visible throughout eternity. I believe that when
we see Jesus in heaven, we're going to see the
same thing that the disciples and apostles saw after.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
He came out of the grave.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Throughout eternity, the marks of our Lord's death will be
visible because we will never be allowed to forget that
was through his death that we have made entrance into
the place where we will spend eternity, and the nail
prints in his hands and in his side will be
there for us always to see. One of the things
that is overwhelming to me is I study the worship
(10:25):
scenes in heaven, is that they are almost always centered
around redemption. We will never be allowed to forget throughout
eternity that we are in heaven because Jesus loved us
enough to die in the cross for our sins.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
He redeemed us. He is the slain lamb.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Then notice thirdly the lamb is not only standing and
he is slain, but thirdly, the lamb is strong. The
picture here of seven horns is a picture of strength.
Horns in the Bible always have to do with strength.
You can find illustrateations in First Kings twenty two eleven
and Zechariah one eighteen. And even though the Lord has
(11:05):
been slain, now watch this carefully. He has been slain,
but he has not been weakened, because the horns which
are pictured in this rather grotesque picture of a lamb
is a picture not only of one who has been slain,
but he is standing and he is strong. Some might
think that because the Lord Jesus was crucified, and in
(11:26):
his resurrection body he may not have the strength wherewith
to carry out the responsibility to redeem this earth. But
I want you to know he hasn't lost any of
his strength through his death.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
He is strong. Then.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
The fourth thing about the lamb is this he is searching.
It says here that he has seven eyes, and those
seven eyes represent his all seeing wisdom. The seven eyes
are said to be the seven spirits sent out into
all the earth. He is the omniscient, omnipresent God. He
alone is worthy to carry out the judgment of the tribulation.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
That is about to bose. Let me back up just
a moment.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Now, Let's remember what we are seeing is a picture
in heaven about what it's like just before the seven
year tribulation is going to start down here. And what
we see is God seated upon the throne. Jesus Christ,
who is the judging part of the Trinity, is about
ready to take the scroll and unroll it, which will
(12:22):
begin the tribulation period. And each seal that is unrolled
will determine a judgment that will take place upon this earth.
There is an interesting analogy between these two pictures of
Jesus Christ.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I remember some years ago that there was.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
A book out about a very very good leader, and
the title of the book was Velvet Steal. Those things
seem incongruous, don't they, Velvet steal? Watch this the lion
in the lamb, all wrapped up in one person.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
He is the lamb of God, which takes away the
sin of the world.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
He is the lion of the tribe of Judah. Someone
has written these analogies. Watch this. The lamb is a
reference to his first coming, because when he came the
first time, he died on the cross.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
As the lamb.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
The lion is a reference to his second coming, because
when he comes the second time, it will be for judgment.
The lamb is symbolic of his meekness. The lion is
symbolic of his majesty. As the lamb, he is the savior.
As the lion, he is the sovereign. As the lamb,
he is judged, But as the lion, he is judging.
(13:34):
The lamb represents the grace of God and the lion
represents the government of God. So those two aspects of
Christ are wrapped up together in this one picture. And
we remember now that we worship in heaven because of
the identity of the lion of the tribe of Judah,
the root of David, and the Lamb who was slain. Secondly,
(13:56):
we worship because of his locality. Where is he Just
very quickly we can read it in the sixth verse,
and I beheld and lo in the midst of the
throne of God and of the four beasts. We worship him. Thirdly,
because of his activity. What is he doing? Why is
he worthy to be worshiped? He's doing two things. When
the Lamb took the scroll, the weeping ended and the

praising began. Did you notice that when you look down
here in the text until Jesus comes forth in verse four,
John is crying. But as soon as Jesus comes forth,
John stops crying and all praise breaks out. So the
first thing that Jesus is doing is this, he reclaims
the authority over all the earth holds your place in
(14:39):
Revelation again and turn back to the Book of Daniel. Daniel,
chapter seven, Verses thirteen and fourteen. Here again is a
picture of the same thing that is going on in
the Book of Revelation, but with a little more descriptive
terminology Daniel seven thirteen and fourteen, Danielus saying, and I
(15:02):
saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the
son of Man, came with the clouds of heaven and
came to the ancient of days. And they brought him
near before him, and there was given to him dominion
and glory and the kingdom, that all people and nations
and language should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting
(15:22):
dominion which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that
which shall not be destroyed. That is a picture what's
going on here in Revelation five. Jesus Christ is receiving
the kingdom from his father, and he is about to
take control of it through the tribulation period in preparation
for the millennium when he will reign forever and ever.
We worship him because he is about ready to reclaim
(15:44):
authority over all this earth. And then secondly, we worship
him because he receives the worship of heaven. And here's
where the central focus of the chapter ought to be
for all of us. Because this is a treatise on worship.
I am not really capable of unfolding all of the
truth about worship in these closing verses.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
The worship of Heaven.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Notice that the scripture says, and when he had taken
the book, verse eight, that the four beasts and the
four and twenty elders fell down before the lamb, having
every one of them harps and golden vials full of odors.
Which are the prayers of the saints. By the way,
what prayer of the saint is in the vile? You
know what I thought of? It was the Lord's prayer.
(16:30):
It was the Lord's prayer. You know why Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
That's the prayer that's ultimately going to be fulfilled. When
the Lord takes control of this earth, He's going to
answer the prayer that he taught his disciples. His kingdom
will come, his will will be done on this earth
as it is in heaven. And not until that time
(16:51):
will that prayer be fully answered. Not until that time.
Warren Wiersby studied this, and he had some great thoughts.
He said, you know, this him fits everything. He said it.
First of all, it's a worship him, worthy is the lamb. Remember,
worship is worthship. It's a gospel song. Thou wast slain
and hast redeemed us by thy blood. It's a missionary
(17:14):
song out of every kindred and tongue and people in nation.
And it's a devotional hymn for we're going to be
kingdoms of priests. And it's a prophetic him for we
shall reign upon the earth. Every aspect of music is
wrapped up in this hymn. Now, let's get the picture
clearly in mind. In heaven, God is on the throne.
I want to keep repeating this so you don't lose
(17:35):
sight of the whole picture.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
God is upon the throne.
Speaker 4 (17:38):
Around the throne are the redeemed, the four and twenty Elders.
In the midst of the throne, or on the steps
upward on each side are the four Cherubim. In God's
right hand as a seven sealed book. There is heard
the voice of the strong Angel saying who is worthy
to open the book? And one of the elders says,
there is one, and is that one?
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Come?
Speaker 4 (18:00):
All heaven breaks forth into singing the Lord has taken
the book, and he alone is worthy to unfold it
and to set forth judgment upon this earth. And then
there are choruses in this antiphonal song in verses eight
through ten, the Redeemed, or the Believers worship, and the
four and twenty elders fell down before the lamb, having
(18:22):
every one of them harps and golden bowls full of incense,
which are the prayers of the saints. And they sung
a new song, saying, thou art worthy to take the
book and to open the seals thereof, for thou wast slain,
and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood, out
of every kindred and tongue, and.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
People and nation.
Speaker 4 (18:42):
And thou hast made us unto our God, kings and priests,
and we shall reign upon the earth. This is the
new song which the Redeemed sing. Notice, we're going to
have some new participants. And I beheld and I heard
the voice of many angels round about the throne and
the and the elders, and the number of them was
(19:04):
ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands of thousands. Literally,
the text says, myriad times, myriads and chileads time chileads.
I don't know how many that is, but it's more
than you and I'll ever count. Do you know that
in the Bible there is never given to us an
exact number of angels. Angels are innumerable, they are never numbered,
(19:26):
and the scripture tells us that there are multitudes of
angels standing around the throne. So here's the picture, God
the Father on the throne, God the Son picking up
the book which unfolds the judgments to come. First of all,
the Redeemed, the twenty four Elders begin to sing, and
as they begin to sing, the angels get involved in
the antipinal praise. And then notice thirdly, and verse thirteen,
(19:50):
and every creature which is in heaven and on the earth,
and under the earth, and such as are in the sea,
and all that are in them, heard I say, And
they begin to pray God. And I couldn't help but
think I have never yet in my life heard a
fish sing, But someday I'm going to hear it. It says,
everything in the sea is going to praise God, right,
And I don't know fish sing, but we're going to
(20:12):
find out everything in God's earth is going to praise
Him around the throne. First of all, are the Redeemed
move away from the throne there are the multitudes of
the angels, And then move a little bit further away,
and you've got everybody in the whole world, and they're
all singing and praising God because of redemption which he
(20:34):
has wrought.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
There's some wonderful truths about worship here.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
Verse nine is the beginning of the song of the believers.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
That's us. This is how we're going to sing. Watch it.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
Now, thou art worthy to take the book and to
open the seals thereof, for thou was laining what is
happening here? The redeemed are singing directly to the lamb.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
Right all right?
Speaker 4 (21:00):
Now look down at verse twelve, which is the angelic song.
Worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive power
and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory
and blessing.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
What's going on?
Speaker 4 (21:15):
If you're a Christian, if you're a believer, you can
sing praise directly to God. But if you're an angel,
you can only sing about it because you don't know
what it's like. You have never known the joy that
our salvation brings. Let me just share one other thing
about music. From the very beginning, there is going to
be a growing in the praise of our Lord. I
(21:37):
really believe that Heaven is going to be a continual crescendo,
getting better and better as the years go by. I
don't know how we'll ever tolerate it. I don't know
how we'll ever be able to stand it after ten
thousand years. But I want to show you something I
found is really interesting. Do you know that the doxologies
in the songs in the Book of Revelation get better
and better as you go along. Go back to the
(21:57):
first chapter and let me just show this to you.
Revelation chapter one and verse six. Now, I want you
to notice that in the first song in the Book
of Revelation, which is the sixth verse of chapter one,
there is a twofold doxology. Now watch this, and he
hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father.
Here's the doxology to him be glory and dominion forever
(22:21):
and ever. All right, praise song number one. All right,
let's keep going. Chapter four, verse eleven is the next one.
This is a threefold doxology. Watch this, Thou art worthy,
O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power, getting
better and better. Keep turning to your Bible. Chapter five,
verse thirteen. Here's a fourfold doxology.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
And every creature.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Which is in heaven and on the earth, and under
the earth, and such as are in the sea, and
all that are in heaven, heard I saying, blessing and
honor and glory and power be unto him. Fourfold doxology.
All right, it hits an all time high. And ch seven,
verse twelve, watch this saying, Amen, blessing and glory and
(23:06):
wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be
unto our God. A sevenfold doxology. It just keeps getting
better and better, a crescendo of praise. You know why,
the longer in heaven, the more you know about how
much you have to be happy. Over right, the Bible
says we're going to learn in heaven, and after we're
there for a few thousand years, we'll be ready for
a two kind of doxology, you know, just two praises,
(23:28):
and then when we're there for a little bit longer,
we'll have three, and then we'll have four, and finally,
after we've learned all there is to learn, we'll have seven.
And seven is the complete number. So I don't know
if we have any more than that, But it just
keeps getting better. And better and better the crescendo of praise.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
And you know, I love to talk about heaven and
what the Bible says about it. It's such a wonderful place,
and obviously I feel very inadequately prepared to do that.
I don't know how to describe a place that I
have never been to and I have never seen personally.
But the Scripture gives us some really wonderful descriptive terms
(24:07):
to describe the place where we'll spend forever if we
know the Lord. It's our personal savior. By the way,
Heaven isn't for everybody. That's a strange thing. And you
listen to the news or the dramas that are on TV,
and it sounds like everybody just automatically dies and goes
to heaven. But that isn't true. Heaven is an exclusive place.
Jesus said, no one comes to the Father except through Me,
(24:31):
and you have to know Jesus to go to Heaven.
If you don't know him, you need to get ready
for heaven by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal savior,
which you can do anytime, any place, anywhere, and I
hope you will do it even today. Please join us
