Speaker 1 (00:05):
When you think of angels, you probably picture good, obedient
servants under God's command. But did you know God also
uses evil angels to carry out as well. Today on
turning Point, doctor David Jeremiah reveals this surprising truth in
his series Escape the Coming Night. Learn how these angels
(00:25):
usher in the next wave of torment as David shares
his message Hell on Earth Part.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Two and thank you for joining us today. We are
studying the Book of Revelation. We are in the heart
of the material that describes the Tribulation period, and we're
in the ninth chapter, and we're going to take another
look at this period of time we've called hell on
Earth because that's literally what it is. Think of the
most devastating thing that has ever happened on this earth,
(00:53):
and we'll multiply it and you'll find out what it's
like to be in the tribulation. This brings me to
a very important point. People say, well, I'm going to
wait and see if the rapture happens, and then if
the tribulation comes, I'll know it's for real and I'll
become a Christian. And you may well do that, but
let me remind you. If you do you will live
through the rest of the tribulation because there's no extra
(01:13):
rapture for those who get saved during the tribulation. And
you will get through the tribulation, but it will be
a very painful event. You will ultimately get to Heaven.
You need to know the Lord. If you accept him today,
you will be taken to Heaven before the tribulation begins.
And I urge you to do that. I urge you
to accept Christ as your savior and let us know
you've done it. We have some things we like to
(01:34):
send you that will help you grow absolutely free from
us but helpful to you, and I hope you will
do that today. Well, here we go. This is the
second message, part one on hell on Earth.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
In order for us to kind of get our bearings,
let me remind you that the next event on the
prophetic scheme of things is the rapture of the Church.
There is nothing that needs to happen before the Lord
returns for his own. We believe in the pre tribulational,
pre millennial rapture of the Church. By that, I mean
(02:09):
we believe that before the tribulation breaks out in its
official form, that the Church of Jesus Christ is going
to be caught out of here. There is therefore now
no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, and
we will not face that judgment if we know the Lord.
I want to say right out at the very beginning
of this message that if you are not a Christian,
(02:31):
everything that the Book of Revelation has to say in essence,
from the fourth chapter on is a message to you
about the uncomforting things that are going to happen after
the Church is gone. And if you're not a Christian,
you ought to get saved, because the only way you're
going to escape the judgment and the tribulational wrath of
(02:51):
God is to become a Christian now and go with
the Church when it is raptured out of this world.
And we learned in our study that if you choose
to wait until after the church is gone with the
idea in your mind that then you will receive the
Lord after you decide once and for all. If all
of this is true, don't find any comfort in those thoughts,
(03:13):
because the scripture says that if you have heard the Gospel,
you will be sent a strong delusion that you will
not be able to believe and you will die in
your sin and go to Hell. The Bible says that
God is in the process of pouring out his wrath
upon the earth during a period of seven years immediately
after the rapture of the Church. We began to understand
(03:37):
that in the fifth chapter, when we opened our bibles
to learn that in heaven, as we looked in through
the vision of John, God was seated upon the throne,
and in his hand was a seven sealed book. At
the end of the seals. In the seventh Sealed Judgment,
there is a telescoping of all of the horrendous judgments
(03:59):
of the very very end of the Tribulation, and we
learn that in the seventh Seal are compressed all of
the seven trumpet judgments, and in the seventh Trumpet Judgment
is compressed all of the seven vile judgments. And as
we have moved through the Book of Revelation, we have
passed through all of the first sixth Seal judgments, and
(04:21):
is seen what God is going to do on this
earth in the chaotic events of that tribulation period. We
are now in the seventh Seal period of judgments. And
as we open our bibles to the ninth chapter. In
our last lesson, we saw the events of the sounding
of the fifth Trumpet. Verses one through twelve tell the story.
(04:45):
I can only review it quickly so that we can
take from where we left off and move through the chapter.
In the first verse of the ninth chapter, we met
an unnamed personality. The Bible says that a star falls
from heaven, and this star falling from heaven is none
other than Satan himself. And the scripture says that as
(05:08):
the star falls from heaven, he is given the key
of the Bottomless Pit. And in verse two we understand
that the bottomless Pit, or the pit of the Abyss,
is opened, and all of the demons that have been
chained in that horrible place for all of the years
are turned loose to run throughout the earth and bring
(05:29):
destruction and pain and all kinds of chaos upon the
inhabitants of the earth. We learned in this chapter that
when the pit is unlocked, a horde of locusts like
creatures describing the demons of Hell are let loose, and
thousands of them swarm over the earth. It is unbelievable
(05:50):
to imagine what it would be like if all of
the inhabitants of all of the prisons and all of
the jails of the world were turned loose, and the
murderers and the race sapist and the child molesters were
set free to do whatever they wanted to in the earth.
It is nothing compared to what would happen when all
hell is set free on this earth during the latter
(06:12):
stages of the Tribulation. And if you've followed in your
study with us, we learn that these creatures bring upon
this earth for five months pain and destruction, and the
pain is like the pain of Hell. Everything about it
on the earth is like Hell on earth. The pain
is a pain that will not go away. It stings
(06:35):
and it burns, and the creatures inflict their scorpion like
poison into the bodies of those who are so inflicted,
and the Bible says that they try to die, but
death will not come.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
And through this awful.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Experience, they are inflicted with the judgment of God for
their rebellion against the Lord. And the only ones who
are saved are those who have the mark of the
Lord upon them them and they are preserved. Now, when
we come to the thirteenth verse, we read that the
sixth angel is about to sound the trumpet, and the
(07:11):
last part of the trumpet judgment is about to unfold.
And I heard a voice from the four horns of
the golden altar, which is before God, saying to the
sixth angel, which had the trumpet, loose the four angels
which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the
four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour
and a day, and a month and a year for
(07:32):
to slay the third part of men. And the number
of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand,
And I heard the number of them, And thus I
saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat
on them having breastplates of fire and jacinth and brimstone.
And the heads of the horses were as the heads
(07:53):
of lions, and out of their mouths issued fire and
smoke in brimstone. By these was the third part of men,
killed by the fire and by the smoke, and by
the brimstone which issued out of their mouths. For their
power is in their mouth and in their tails, for
their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and
(08:15):
with them they do hurt. And the rest of the
men which were not killed by these plagues, yet repented
not of the works of their hands, that they should
not worship devils and idols of gold and silver, and
brass and stone, and of wood, which neither can see,
nor hear, nor walk. Neither repented day of their murderers,
nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of
(08:37):
their thefts. Now there is a brief outline we can
follow in these few verses that will help us. First
of all, in verses thirteen to fifteen, we have the
demand from heaven to judge. The scripture says in the
thirteenth verse that the sixth angel sounded, and John said,
I heard a voice from the four horns of the
(08:58):
golden altar, which is before God, saying, loose the four
angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And
the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an
hour and a day in a month and a year
to slay the third part of men. Now, the voice
in verse thirteen comes from the altar of incense in heaven.
(09:18):
It's a very important thing to recognize that it's coming
from that altar for a specific reason. Turn back in
your Bibles to the sixth chapter of the Book of Revelation,
chapter six, verses nine through eleven, And we read in
the ninth verse, and when he had opened the fifth seal,
watch carefully, I saw under the altar the souls of
(09:41):
them that were slain for the word of God and
for the testimony which they held. And they cried with
a loud voice, saying, how long, Lord, Holy and True,
how long dost thou not judge and avenge our blood
on them that dwell on the earth. And white robes
were given unto them. And it was sad unto them
that they should rest for a little season until there
(10:04):
are fellow servants also, and their brethren that should be
killed as they were, should be fulfilled. Now watch carefully
the prayer under the altar addressed to God from the
souls of those who had been slain for their faith.
That prayer is given to the God of the altar,
and the prayer is answered in the ninth chapter. In
(10:26):
other words, the Lord says in chapter six, just wait
a little while. The time is not yet for the
judgment that you want to come down upon this earth.
These martyred saints were trying to figure out God's system
of justice, and they were saying, Lord, we've given our
lives for the faith, and yet down on the earth
all hell is breaking loose, and it seems like all
(10:47):
of the wickedness of Satan is triumphing over the good?
How long before you will avenge our souls? And the
Lord says in chapter six, just wait awhile, when the
time is right, I will do it. And then we
come to the ninth chapter where the saints now are
getting the message and the answer to their prayer. Turning
your bibles to the eighth chapter in the third verse,
(11:10):
and another angel came and stood at the altar, having
a golden censer, and there was given unto him much
incense that he should offer it. Now here it is
with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar,
which was before the throne. Now, what are the prayers
of the saints? Very unusual prayers, the prayers of the
(11:31):
saints who have lost their lives for their faith. Their
prayers are imprecatory prayers. Lord, when are you going to
judge the earth? And we are not told that their
prayers are wrong. God is being asked by those who
have suffered in his behalf, When are you going to
judge the earth? And Chapter nine is the answer to
(11:52):
that prayer. Lord said, it's time. It is time for
the judgment to begin. And according to this demand to judge,
now we have first of all the tools of God's judgment.
They are prescribed by this demand. Notice he uses angels again.
In the fourteenth verse of the ninth chapter. We are
(12:12):
told that the angels are sent, and they are localized
at the river Euphrates, and they are to release the
forces of evil. Notice the fourteenth versus that they are
to loose the four angels which are bound in the
great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed which
were prepared to slay the third part of men. Now
(12:35):
you need to understand something here that in the Bible
there are good angels and they're bad angels. The good
angels we have a reference to them back in the
seventh chapter. Notice chapter seven and verse one. And after
these things, I saw four angels standing on the four
corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth,
that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor
(12:57):
on the sea, nor on any tree. Those are good angels,
and their job is to restrain evil. But the angels
in the ninth chapter are bad angels and their job
is to release evil. Now, the Bible says that these
four angels who are going to let judgment go upon
the earth are localized. They're at the river Euphrates. Now,
(13:19):
the River Euphrates is important in the Bible because central
to that river is the first Sin, the first murder,
the Tower of Babel, all of that is really involved
in the centralized judgment of God back upon this river. Now,
the time of God's judgment is prescribed in the fifteenth verse. Notice,
(13:40):
the angels are loosed and they are to do something special,
and what they are supposed to do is in the
plan and program of God. The Bible says, they have
the day, the month, and the year, and they are
to do it exactly at the right time. And the
result of their doing it is that one third of
mankind is going to be killed. Now, the fifteenth verse
(14:03):
of Revelation nine is a very interesting verse because it
is an expression of time. Notice the four different expressions
of time, the hour of the day, the month, and
the year has nothing to do with the duration of
the judgment. He's not talking about how long it's going
to last. He's talking about when it's going to happen,
(14:23):
And it doesn't tell us the date. If we had
the date here, we'd all be writing about it and
preaching about it and having prophecy conferences about it. It
doesn't say when the date is, but it says there
is a date, and the date is known to God,
and on God's calendar, marked in red, is the date
when this judgment is going to take place.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
He knows the.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Day and the hour, and the month and the year.
Known unto God alone is that day. But it is
already on the calendar. It is in the sovereign plan
of God. And when that day arrives, no matter what
anybody does, the judgment will come. Targets of God's judgment
are prescribed by the demand. And notice, if we look
(15:04):
at it, the targets are one third of the remaining
inhabitants of the earth. The four angels were loosed, which
were prepared for an hour and a day in a
month and a year for to slay the third part
of men. Now, what are they going to do. They're
going to kill one third of all the people who
are still living on the earth. Now, let's remember what's
(15:27):
going on here mathematically, because we can get confused. Go
back to the sixth chapter. In the eighth verse, when
these judgments begin, these sealed judgments, there is another number
that is given to us concerning the decrease in population
of the world through judgment. Notice in the eighth verse
it says, and I looked and behold a pale horse,
(15:48):
And his name that sat on him was death, and
hell followed with him, and power was given unto them
over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with
the sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with
the beasts of the earth. Back in the sixth chapter,
we read about twenty five percent of the world's population
being killed.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Now we are.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
Going to see the slaying of one third of the
seventy five percent that is still left. And if you
do the calculation, by the time you get to this
sixth trumpet judgment, one half of the world's population has
been obliterated through the judgment of God. One half of
the world has gone through the judgment of God. Never
(16:33):
since the time of Noah has such a substantial proportion
of the Earth's population come under God's righteous judgment. And
if you don't think we're telling the truth about it.
Look down in the eighteenth verse and you will find
that statistic again by these three was the third part
of men killed by the fire, by the smoke, by
the brimstone which issued out of their mouths.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
So, at this particular.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Time in the tribulation period, and we're going to give
you the detail in a moment, there is going to
be such an awful, chaotic conflagration upon this earth that
the result will be that of the seventy five percent
of the world's population that is still left, one third
of them will die. Now, what are the details. The
details are given to us in verse sixteen. And the
(17:20):
number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred
thousand thousand. And I heard the number of them. Now
let's just stop for a moment. How much is two
hundred thousand thousand?
Speaker 4 (17:33):
How many is that?
Speaker 1 (17:35):
All?
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Right? Two hundred million. Now some have taken this and
they have said, well, this is not a literal number.
Let me show you why they do that. Look at
chapter five and verse eleven. Some have said, this is
just a way of expressing an unbelievable number of people.
In verse eleven, you would get the impression that this
is a phrase that sometimes is used to describe an
(17:55):
innumerable company. Verse eleven says that I'd be held and
I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne,
and the beasts and the elders, and the number of
them was ten thousand times ten thousand and thousands.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
Of thousands, in other words, just a lot of folks.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
But I don't believe in the ninth chapter we're talking
about general numbers. We're talking about a specific number, a
specific number of people. There is a solution to this.
And if you'll go back again to the twelfth verse
of the sixteenth chapter. There are some expositors who are
very hesitant to join these two passages together, but there
(18:36):
are so many things that are similar we cannot deny
the similarity. Notice, first of all, in the twelfth verse,
who is it that pours out his vile upon the
great river Euphrates? Which angel? Sixth angel? And what judgment
is this? Back in the ninth chapter? All right, so
the sixes are together, are they not? The Euphrates River
(18:59):
is in the sixth trumpet of chapter nine, and the
Euphrates river is in the sixth angels judgment in chapter sixteen. Now,
many expositors believe that the vile judgments are really, in
some respects overlapping the trumpet judgments.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
For this reason, Now watch carefully.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
The seal judgments are consecutive, the first, the second, the third,
the fourth, the fifth. But what happens in the seventh seal?
All seven of the trumpets are there, right, and what
happens in the seventh trumpet? All seven of the vials
are in the seventh trumpet. So what happens when you
get to the seventh seal? Is this what was taking
(19:39):
place in a very normal and consecutive fashion.
Speaker 4 (19:42):
When you get to the seventh.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Seal, it is all jammed into a much smaller period
of time, and things begin to happen so fast you
can hardly separate them. And some expositors believe that while
the vile judgments are consecutive after the trumpet judgments, that
it's it's very difficult to separate them a great deal
because all of these events are happening so very rapidly.
(20:05):
They're simply telling us the things that are going to
happen at the end of the tribulation period. Now, what
is going to happen? The Bible says that when the
sixth Angel does his thing in chapter sixteen of Revelation,
that the Euphrates River is going to dry up. What
is the purpose of that. The Euphrates River is the
river that separates the Orient from the scene of battle.
(20:31):
One of the great questions that has been asked of
prophetic teachers is, suppose you could have an army of
two hundred million. Where would it be possible to have
such an army. If you had an army of two
hundred million men, how would you ever get them to battle?
You would have to march them across the land, And
(20:51):
how would you get them across the land? There is
a natural barrier between where they are and where the battle.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Is supposed to take place.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
The Bible says that in the sixteenth chapter that the
Angel is going to come down, it's going to dry
up the Euphrates River, and there won't be a barrier anymore.
They'll march right across that river and right into the
field of battle where all of the.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
War is to take place.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Let us remember that this army of two hundred million
men is going to be responsible, under the judgment of God,
to kill a third of the inhabitants of the earth
that are still left, and it will take a lot
of folks for that to happen. Now the stage is set.
The remaining armies of the North and South that have
survived the divine judgment of hail and fire will still
(21:40):
be present in the arena. The armies of the Anti
Christ and the European Confederated Nations are located in Palestine,
protecting their interests in.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Israel and in the oil.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
And the great horde of people from the East have
crossed over the Euphrates River and are ready to march
upon God's Holy people. And all of that is a
part of this judgment. You say, aren't we jumping ahead?
I don't believe we are. It is possible that though
there will be a disarmament in the near future, and
(22:15):
though at the beginning of the Tribulation there might be disarmament,
and between the rapture in the second Coming there might
be disarmament, by the time of this period of the Tribulation,
toward the close of the Tribulation, the modern means of
war probably will be in use again. And that makes
the description of the warfare that is perpetrated by this
(22:39):
army of two hundred million people. Most interesting, they are
declared in the text.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Read carefully.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
In the ninth chapter, they are declared to have breastplates
of fire and jacinth and brimstone. Notice the heads of
the horses are compared to heads of lions, out of
whose mouths fire, smoke, and brimstone issue.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
It would be very.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Easy to describe modern mechanical warfare in those terms. The
nineteenth verse of our chapter says that the power is
in their mouths and in their tails. Their tails are
said to be like serpents, and even the tails have
heads with which they can hurt men. Note the terms lions, horses, serpents.
(23:25):
They all speak of the deadly force of destruction, and
verse eighteen in our chapter speaks of fire and smoke
and brimstone which issues out of their mouths. This could
be nothing more than a full scale military war with
nuclear weapons and destruction.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
How accurate is the Bible. One day, when all of
this takes place, people will find copies of the scripture
that they discarded, and once again we'll read what the
Bible says is going to have, and in the midst
of experiencing the happening of it, they will be chagrined
that they didn't trust Christ when they had the opportunity.
(24:08):
I hope you won't be among them. You don't have
to be among them. You can accept the Lord Jesus
Christ today and you will never see any of this
that we're talking about. You will be in heaven. But
if you don't accept Christ and you still are alive
on this earth when he comes back, you will go
through what we've called hell on earth, and it will
be a terrible time. Let me just remind you you
(24:30):
don't want to do that. There's another way. There's a
way for you to know the Lord by putting your
trust in him today. I hope you will do it.
Let us know you've done it. We'll send you some
things that will help you get started and have a
fast out of the blocks of growth in your Christian life.
