I think the polling you just showed backs him up

that the vast majority of the country is supportive of
his immigration policies broadly. Democrats know that. I mean Democrats
have been in a real buying trying to figure out
how can they actually argue against Trump on immigration when
the election results numbers show that people aren't with them
on this specific topic. Now, what's different here is you're

now moving from people who are in prison or people
who are clearly criminals, to people who've been in the
United States in some cases for a long time, in
some cases paying taxes for a long time working in
jobs under the assumption that they could continue to operate
that way as long as they didn't break the law
and as long as they continue to pay taxes. So

once you start to deport that group of people in
mass I think Democrats feel like one, it's just not right,
and so they are I think when Kevin Newsom talks
about it, I think I take him at his word.
I do believe he believes what he's saying. I think
they're willing to have this fight. I think they wanted
to go to the courts and that they think ultimately
that the American public will find it inhumane once you

start to go after people who they feel like didn't
do anything wrong. I think when it does go to
the courts, for people thinking, oh, the courts are going
to step in and say you can't use the military,
I don't know that that's how this court is going
to decide. I think it's very clear the court feels
like the president has authority really when it's under the
guise of national security, and I think he'll have a

lot of freedom even if this hasn't been done since
nineteen sixty five, and even if he takes it a
step further and goes for the insurrection act. I think
that he has the backing and he feels like he
has the backing of the courts to do.

This and possibly the backing of his supporters.

Here both the insurrection out. It depends on whether or
not there's an insurrection.

No, no, but you have violent people, and we're not
gonna let them get away with it.

calling in the National Guard in the way that he
did was not necessary, absolutely overkill and seems to now
being escalating the problem because of Donald Trump's actions.

is in your belief, what we're seeing the car on fire,
et cetera, is a direct that escalation is directly correlated
with the National Guard being brought brought in.

Well, I think that it's the it's it's it's an escalation.
It's playing on people's emotions during what is absolutely very
unsettling for most Californians. You know, over eighty percent of
Californians believe that undocumented people should have a pathway to citizenship.

We estimate that there are about two million people in
the state of California who are undocumented.

Well, I mean, look, Donald Trump has created the conditions

taking over the National Guard in a legal act and
a moral act, unconstitutional act, and we're going to test
that theory with a lawsuit tomorrow.

needle in terms of public support toward Trump or away
from him?

Well, first of all, it's given Elon Musk. It looks
like an opportunity to try and get back into Donald
Trump's good books, because he's been tweeting over the last
twelve hours about how there should be tougher law enforcement
in California and these riots should have to stop.

I think you have to look at the longer term.
If Stephen Miller manages to have his way and is
successful in deporting really millions of people who are in
the country illegally. Those people are people who work in businesses,
in restaurants, in garages, they work in hotels, they work
all around the country.

They pay taxes.

So the term impact of reducing America's labor force and
reducing the revenue that those people bring in to the
government's coffers, that could have some impact. I think if
this is a successful operation, but we don't quite know
what that would be in the short term. I think
the Democrats have to handle this very carefully. I mean,
Gavin Newsom is trying to play tough up against Donald Trump,

but I think Jim's right the courts. If this went
to the courts, then they've shown that they're prepared to
give the president an awful lot of power on this.
And we know that Donald Trump because General Millie told US.
Donald Trump wanted to do this in the first term.
This is exactly the playbook he wanted to enact around
the Black Lives Matter protests. It doesn't really matter what
the protests are. These are the images that the White

the Army, National Guard needs to leave. We got it

a Marine Corps combat veteran Iraq in Afghanistan. He'd get
enough and he's in the California National Guard and he
was activated.

knowledge that this is highly or this is not chaotic,

only do it's the Hamas, the pro Homas groups, the

of these protests. You know a lot of these people
are university professors and they're heavily involved. And the Metia
groups out of California and the Metro groups for those
of you do not know, there are these groups that
complain that California, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona are stolen land

and they want to reconquer this territory and climate back
for Mexico.

failed darkal state. Most people will be shocked at the
levels of violence that occur in Mexico on a daily basis.

you said it, Steve, this is a direct result of
four years of the invasion that Joe Biden invited and
fifty years of communism in our country that now finally
is showing itself for what it is. What's amazing is
as you walk these streets, there's graffiti everywhere and the

combination of words and different groups that are out here,
from the Palestinians to BLM two as you heard, metcha,
the Loraza contingent. These guys you know that absolutely believe
they want to take this country back from America.

Yep, some are love. Part two. This time, I need
not just hard words, we need hard actions. Start arresting
those officials that are getting in the between Ice and
other law enforcement trying to execute on the mass deportations.

This country needs not even a question. We're on the

to have a country. Very simple, You blink now, you're
not gonna have a country. We're in the noe blink

Back in the month sort breaks from my home town.
I myself have engaged in peaceful protests on those variou
streets that we're seeing on television right now. On the
other hand, we're seeing the best of what is Los Angeles,
despite what the President says, despite the types of violence
that he is trying to instigate, we are seeing a

community coming together in defense of itself. And I think
in the days ahead, as the smoke figuratively and literally
begins to clear, we're going to see the beauty of
Los Angeles in the way in which people come together
to protect the vulnerable. And you know that, you know,
not the image on the screen that you're seeing right now,

but the community is what we're fighting for and one
thing I really just want to put in context. I mean,
one way to kind of frame this is that this
is a protest in defense of immigrant rights. The other
way to frame it is that this is a protest
in defense of democracy. The President has always used the
idea of mass deportation as an excuse and a justification

for authoritarianism. That's what's coming to fruition right now. We
don't control the executive branch, Congress, the courts are.

Up in the air.

What we do have is the right to protest peacefully
in public spaces and to defend each other the best
that we can, using the best traditions of this country.
And I think that's what you're going to see in
the days ahead.

In Los Angeles, there is the concern among many authoritarian
experts is who say that oftentimes strongmen, authoritarian leaders create
and sow chaos in order to crack down with more
aggressive means, whether it is suspending habeas corpus, declaring martial law,
invoking the Insurrection Act. We're far from seeing anything violent

on the streets of Los Angeles, but are you at
all concerned that as we see major highways shut down,
businesses get disrupted, you will then hear the strong arm
voices from the government, from the administration and say we
must restore and we saw we heard that a little
bit earlier today from the President who said we will

restore law and order when they see disruptions like this
on major freeways. Are you concerned that the pretext is
being set for them to come in and say, we
must restore law and order and we will clear these roads.

I mean so much to say about this. The first
thing is that President Trump doesn't know the first thing
about law and order, so that kind of a promise
is hollow on its face. The idea is right, and
there is no question that they are trying to instigate violence.
And I would say again to my friends, some of
whom are on those very streets right now. You know,
there are provocateurs that come and throw bottles, and so

Donald Trump will say, oh, the protesters or the immigrants
through the bottles, but or in Tifa or antifa or whatever.
But it is very important that people go to protests
that are organized, you know, and stay safe because there's
no question that they are trying to trigger the emergency
you know that otherwise wouldn't have existed. And by the way,

it's exactly sort of analogous to what happened to kill
mar Abrigo Garcia. Remember this is a guy that was
essentially sentenced to a life imprisonment.
