Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
An iHeartRadio podcast. Good morning everyone, It's Tuesday, September second.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
I'm Amy Roebuck and I am TJ. Holmes, and it's
the hat snatch heard round the world. This thing is
going crazy. If you haven't seen yet, folks, there's a
big controversy at the US Open that has nothing to
do with the match that took place. A grown ass
man snatched a hat that was intended for a boy,
and we got all kinds of updates on this story.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Now, yeah, everybody loves to point out that it wasn't
just yeah, it was a grown ass man, but it
was a millionaire CEO, which made it even worse, Like
the man could buy whatever had he wanted, and yet
he stole one from a.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Young boy and it's all on video. It's gone viral.
Then a statement from the CEO pissed people off even more.
But then he's come back and said, actually, I didn't
say that. We got updates on the story. You have
been obviously following for sure, But it's a hell of
a story to get into to talk about. Also, I
don't know how much longer we're going to talk about Powerball.

(01:02):
It's now we're getting into some astronomical territory to where
the whole country is going to be taken over by
this one point three.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Billion This is Powerball fever officially now at this point,
and even if you were hesitating, I have a feeling
most people if you walk by a place that's selling
a lottery ticket, why not?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
What's the harm?

Speaker 1 (01:20):
And this was our thing. We have actually been out
of the country for almost a week now and we
weren't able to buy any Powerball tickets. As soon as
we land, we know where we're going. We're back, all right, folks,
all that to get into that fun stuff. But one
housekeeping note top right corner of your screen where you're
seeing the Amy and TJ podcast there in your Apple

(01:42):
podcast app top right corners has followed. Just click that
you can get our updates automatically cent too, you don't
have to go searching for them. But also on the
run this morning, a really difficult story to talk about.
A college cheerleader is facing charges for what was found
in her closet. Also ruded Gilliani gets the highest honor
and Oscar nominee Pioneer has passed a long time top
Democrat says he won't seek reelection, and a six time

(02:05):
Super Bowl winning coach makes his coaching debut last night,
and it was a star studded one. We'll get into
this highly anticipated night last night, a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Of expectations perhaps put on him in that game that yes,
we're not matched or received or met I guess is
the word.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
There was no Tom Brady under center last night.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
All right, But we begin our run on this Tuesday
with Powerball fever.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
How high can this thing go?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
The Powerball jackpot continues to grow, and after last night's
drawing once again resulted in no jackpot winner.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yeah, so last night's drawing was for one point one
billion dollars, an astronomical sum when it comes to jackbos.
So the next drawing now is on Wednesday, so it's
going to go up from the one point one billion
to now one point three billion dollars. Now, if you
decide to do the cash payout option, that is five

(03:02):
hundred and ninety eight million dollars in cash to you
immediate in one check.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Like where do you deposit that? All right?

Speaker 2 (03:10):
There's been no jackpot winner since May thirty first, but
last night a number of smaller prizes were one, Hey,
I'd be excited about this. Ten people want a one
million dollar prize and two people want a two million
dollar prize. That sounds amazing. So Wednesday's drawing will be
the eighth largest jackpot in US history.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
And babe, we are back in time to get a ticket.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
It's getting serious now, and this is the point they
change the odds to make it harder to get the
jogpots to go higher so they can make more money
because folks like you and I, when was the last
time you bought up?

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Oh, it's sick, it's been It's well, I think maybe Christmas.
I think I always give that as Christmas presents.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yes, we ate it for fun chess gifts. But when
it gets to billion, everybody gets involved and that's when
the money starts coming in and people start buying tickets.
So good luck to you all. Continuing on the run now,
and fresh off is car accident, that car accident that
sent them to the hospital with a broken vertebrae, Rudy
Giuliani is getting some good news and a distinguished honor.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
President Trump says he will award Giuliani the President Medal
of Freedom, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian
honor in the country. It honors individuals who recognize a
lifetime of significant achievements in the arts, public service, science,
or other fields. So in making this announcement, Trump called
Giuliani the greatest mayor in the history of New York

(04:29):
City and an equally great American patriot.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
So we don't know exactly when this is going to happen,
when the ceremony is going to take place, but the
President said those details are forthcoming. Roads it's important to
When I looked up and saw what they describe as
who gets this honor significant achievements in arts, public service,
Giuliani qualifies. I know he has been disbarred in two places.

(04:52):
I think he has lost that case down in Georgia,
all right against those election workers, and a lot of
people get him and the heights falling off because he's
so buddy buddy with Trump and whatever. This man was
a damn American hero after nine to eleven, and it's
weird to stop and think back. He could do no wrong.
He and you know what think about Cuomo doing COVID.

(05:13):
These two guys helped usher this country, not just the
city through the most difficult times we've seen in the
past couple of decades, and yes he's fallen off, but
when you remember him, this guy was America's mayor.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
America's mayor. I was just going to say that that's
what I could think of it at the time. You're right,
he was unifying. He was exactly what we needed in
a time of absolute crisis.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
So now, Julian, only if you remember he was discharged
from the hospital, we should update you. He was actually
discharged yesterday after that serious car accident over the weekend
in New Hampshire that had left him with numerous injuries.
Like we mentioned that fraction fractured vertebrae. Nobody's been charged
in that accident yet, but they do want to say
this was not a targeted incident, but somebody ran in
the back of his vehicle at high speed. Very serious accident.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
All right, Well, we wish him well.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Next up on the run, a longtime Democrat stalwart in
Congress has decided to get out of town before he.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Is run out of town.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Jerry Nadler, new York's longest serving member of Congress, announced
he will not seek reelection.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah. First elected in ninety two, represents New York's twelfth District,
which is pretty much a good chunk of Manhattan. It's
a very important district there in New York. He served
as chair also as ranking member on the powerful House
Judiciary Committee that put him center stage during impeachment hearings.
He actually introduced the first articles of peachment against Trump
during his first term. Nawl says he's getting out now

(06:36):
because he believes it's time for generational change in the party.
He said, seeing what happened to Biden actually spurred this
well thought in him.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Leave while you're still on top, or at least not
rock bottom. All right, next up on the run. He's
seventy three years old, he's won six Super Bowls. But
last night Bill Belichick made his coaching debut in college.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
That's highly anticipated and this was a star star affair
as well as Belichick's now North Carolina Tar Heels played TCU.
Who was there, Michael Jordan, Mia hamm Lawrence Taylor, Roy Williams.
All of these, of course are legendary North Carolina folks
in some way, form or fashion. But yeah, they showed up.
That's just a few. But this is the big deal.

(07:19):
You remember the off season just the fact that he
took the job, and then all the stuff about his
personal life, and then he had the book tour. He's
been talked about a lot. So we finally got the football.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Yeah. His girlfriend, what's her name again? Jordan?

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yes, yes, Jordan was there right by his side.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Actually, I saw all.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
The photos Michael Jordan and Jordan Wow.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah two. Jordan's both of them famous at this point.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Belichick had a storied run with the New England Patriots,
as you might remember, but he never actually coached in
college before agreeing to a five year contract with North Carolina. Unfortunately,
with all of that star power, it still didn't help
them on the field. Game didn't go so well for Belichick.
They lost who forty eight to fourteen.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
It's just the start of ten. You're there, all right.
I'm sure the Patriots weren't great when he first started there.
Let's head over to Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Now.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
A disturbing story unfolding there surrounding the college campus there,
the University of Kentucky, where a twenty one year old
cheerleader there has been arrested and accused of hiding her
dead infant in her closet to conceal her recent birth.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah, this is so sad.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Lake and Ashley Snelling is a senior at the university
and a member of the competitive cheer stunt team. Police
say they do plan to charge her with concealing the
birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse
of a corpse. Authorities say they were sent to Snelling's
home after receiving a call about an unresponsive infant, and
that's when they found the infant wrapped in a towel

(08:47):
inside a black trash bag.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
In her closet.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
They say Snelling agreed to be interviewed and admitted that
she had given birth and tried to hide evidence of
that birth. The coroner's office is investigating the cause of
the infant death. This officiously said, all the way around
a twenty one year old girl, and I know people
will immediately look at her and we don't know what
was going over. And I thought, why was she so

(09:10):
desperate or scared or fearful of that she couldn't share
with anybody that she had to hide this.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
It hurts, It breaks my heart.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
It actually makes me feel physically ill because I just
I think about my daughters and look, I don't know
we don't know the circumstances surrounding this, but this has
been mentioned in a couple of the articles that if
you didn't realize, in that state, at the University of Kentucky,
at Kentucky, nearly all abortions have been illegal since twenty
twenty two.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
So we don't know what her options were.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
We don't know the situation she was in, but certainly
some folks, some news outlets have pointed that out, and
it's just a sad, devastating situation all around. And we
don't know how the baby died. So we'll get more
details in the coming days. But next up on the run,
OSCAR nominated and groundbreaking actor Graham Green has passed away
at the age of seventy three. Green shot the fame

(09:56):
and influence after being cast as Kicking Bird alongside Kevin
Costner and Dancing with Wolves. I said, dancing with Wolves
instead of Dances with Wolves.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
My apologies, but.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
That sounds like the movie you would make.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, I probably would now.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Graham Green his role there in Dances with Wolf Dancing
with Wolf, which is.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's it's Dances with Wolves, I said, dancing with Wolves.
I have my dancing queen sweatshirt on right now, and
I think it was just in my head.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Okay, But Graham Green now again we say he shot
to fame and influence because of that movie, because it
earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. But
it put him on a pioneering path in Hollywood and
he helped his credited with helping to open up doors
for indigenous actors. In addition to Dances with Wolves, Green

(10:43):
had a long list of TV and movie credits, including
Green Mile and one of my favorites, of course, the
third in the Diehard series, die Hard with a Vengeance.
He played a kind of a smart alecky, kind of
dead pan detective who was kind of giving Bruce Willis
hell throughout the movie. I remember him from that and

(11:05):
not Dance's movie.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
That's funny. Well, we know you love that movie or
those movies.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
I'm a Diehard guy. So yes, he died yesterday in Toronto,
they say, after a long illness. But I think the name, right, folks,
is one rogues. A lot of people might not recognize
Graham Green. This was another one of those actors that
stayed acting. He was everywhere in everything and touch. He
was just a busy, a working actor, so he showed

(11:29):
up in so much stuff.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah, if you google his face, you'll immediately know who
he is.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
You just might not know his name.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, and you're probably gonna be able to place him
in a movie or a show that you know and love.
But yeah, Graham Green, good time. Take a moment to
honor him and maybe look at some of his works.
But stay with us here on this Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday
morning run, day after Labor Day run. When we come back,
it's a story that everybody has been talking about. A
CEO is seen on camera snatching a hat away that

(11:59):
a tennis starr was trying to give to a kid. Well,
that man is now speaking and he's trying to clear
a few things up. Also a rare site for millions
of people in the skies. All you gotta do is
look up, depending on where you are.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Though, before we go to break, I have to tell
you about new leggings I've been living in lately. They're
from this brand called Tona and fun fact here they
were actually designed by the same visionary behind Lululemon. So
from that alone, you already know they're going to be
pretty good. These leggings feel like a second skin. They're
super flattering, super comfortable, and somehow still supportive. I've been

(12:37):
wearing them on my morning runs and they've quickly become
my everyday lounging leggings too. And here's what makes them
even better. Every pair you buy helps fund a mental
health counseling session for a teen in need. Tona's on
a mission to end teen suicide and self harm, which
we think is so important and incredible. So we've partnered
with Tona to give you twenty percent off your order

(12:59):
and free shipping. Head totonaactive dot com and use code
iHeart for twenty percent off and free shipping. And welcome
back to this Tuesday day after Labor Day morning run

(13:20):
and on the run. Now we're gonna head to the
US Open. Not for what happened on the court, but
for something that occurred off of it but was caught
on camera.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
A grown man and.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
A millionaire CEO of a Polish company got busted on
live television taking a hat signed by Polish tennis star
Camille Meishak, just as my Shaq was clearly clearly trying
to give it to a young boy.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Yeah, and then this happened. The video goes viral, and
the CEO, Peter Shezrek, goes viral because he looked like
an absolute tool. In the clip, the boy whose name
is Brock he exclaims, what are you doing when Sazarek
takes the hat and puts it in his bag. Now
once the online criticism poured in, a fake response seemingly

(14:09):
from Sayzaak also went viral. The video It's hard for us.
It's difficult here where TV people been training. But the
video was hard to describe because I don't want to
put any spin on it. But this is as plain
as day. This is not us taking any liberties. This

(14:29):
tennis star has his hat on his head. He takes
it off his head and he extends it to the
direction of this little boy. Howls a boy.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Oh, I don't know he was nine or ten ten
year old boy.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
As the arm is extended and the hat is in
the direction of the boy, the grown man next to
the boy reaches over and snatches the.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Black hat and then celebrates, like takes selfies with it,
is like so proud, and puts.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
It in his Yes. The kid, oh, he was reacting
the whole time.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Credulous, like a serious.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
And he's like what he's got this look on his
face like did that just happen?

Speaker 3 (15:07):
And he kept trying to get his attention, like give
it back to me. Yes, So he absolutely was like
it's not disputable at all. Okay.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
So then this so his social media accounts, as you
might imagine, Peter Szarick's go dark. But there was a
statement from him that went everywhere and it went just
as viral as the original video itself. So here's what
it says. Yes, I took it, Yes I did it quickly.
But as I've always said, life is first come, first served,

(15:35):
I understand that some people might not like it, but please,
let's not make a global scandal out of the hat.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
It's just a hat. If you were faster, you would
have it.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
And then the statement went on to basically say, and
if you keep criticizing me, you know I will pursue
legal action against you. It was like the biggest asshole
statement you could possibly think, coming from an asshole who
took a hat from a kid. So then he had
to come out and say all statements appearing online accredited
to us, meaning him and his wife, were false and
were not authored by us or our representatives, and he

(16:04):
went on to say that he and his wife have
been involved in supporting children and young athletes, but this
incident has shown me that a moment of inattention can
undo years of work and support.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
A moment of inattention.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
I okay, let me finish ever here before I defend
this guy. I mean, the tennis player went to social media.
He found the young kid and his family, then gave
him a new hat, give him a whole bunch of
other stuff, took photos with him. I think that video
is just as powerful as the other video.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
It is.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
It's really cool to see. The CEO then stepped up
posted this on social media Monday, like Robe just said,
kind of cleared up. Want to make sure that first
statement I'm telling everybody that was not mine, but he
said this, I would like to unequivocally apologize to the
young boy, his family, all the fans, and the player himself.
I take full responsibility for my extremely poor judgment and

(16:53):
hurtful actions.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
And it would have been nice had he stopped there,
because you always say, you know what, it's always about
the defense. Kind of do your apology. Because then he
went on to say, it was never my intent to
take the hat from the boy.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Huh, yes, it was.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
But then he became caught up in the heat of
the moment and the joy of the victory, and he believed,
he says that the tennis player was handing the hat
to him to give to his sons, who had previously
asked for autographs. I never even saw his sons in
the video, but I'm sure they were nearer him.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yeah, I just okay, I'm trying to give the guy
the benefit of the doubt. We're gonna have more on this, folks.
We're gonna put up another episode in which we are
going to get into it about this. And I am
always usually on the side of I'm trying to give
the guy the benefit of the doubt because these are
these are very intense moments and their hYP You're so
excited and you're it's a split second and you're trying

(17:46):
is it my turn? Do I get to sign? Get mine?
Take mine? Take mine? Take mine? And things are flying around.
I think it's possible he made an awful mistake in
a moment and got caught up. I think that's possible.
It still looks bad.

Speaker 2 (17:57):
Yeah, but if he hadn't got caught on camera, he'd
still have the hat, and what do I feel bad
about it?

Speaker 1 (18:01):
But I wonder if he would have had him. If
he wouldn't, he probably didn't even see his own behavior.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Maybe not that is true.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
I'm trying to give the guy the benefit of the doubt,
but I hate what's happening to where if somebody makes
a mistake, not just you should be punished, your family
should be punished, your kids should suffer, you should lose
your house, and your business should break down.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
That is yeah, and his business has suffered. We will
get into all of that.

Speaker 1 (18:23):
We will, So yeah, look for that episode. It'll be
the next one we post after morning run in our
feed later today, final leg of the run. Though a
rare celestial treat for millions of people, you might have
seen it early this morning. If not, you might have
another chance tonight to see Aurora borealis aka the Northern Lights.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Normally they're not visible in most of the northern hemisphere,
but today and tomorrow are exceptions, and the lights are
visible in places that normally do not see them, like
the northwest part of the US or even the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
And so why you ask is this happening.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
This is when I did my deep dive rope.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Right.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
Scientists out there who track space weather, they say there's
a major geomagnetic storm that's coming and this one is
more powerful than usual, and it is shooting larger than
normal magnetic fields of particles towards the Earth, and when
those particles reach our atmosphere, they react to molecules in
the Earth's atmosphere, which causes that multicolored glow in the
sky that we know as the Northern Lights.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Since this current storm is larger and has essentially sent
more particles our way, it will produce a bigger and
wider display of lights for people to see. So this
the most optimal time. We're between two am and five
am Eastern on Tuesday. So you missed that shot.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
If you're listening to that, yeah, probably, But there.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
Are more possibilities today.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
I'm curious if we will too, because where we are
right now in the world, in Sweden, it's actually known
for being able to see the Northern Lights, so but
we've just had nothing but cloud cover here.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
So that's the problem.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
If you don't you have to have clear skies and
you have to be in the right place at the
right time.

Speaker 1 (19:49):
We got some sun right now today, the first.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Time in seven days. Maybe later we'll see. I'm looking
forward to it.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
All right, as you go about your day today, we
would like to leave you with this.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
This is our quote of the day.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
This comes from someone who knows well, let's just say
we get a lot of sage advice from Buddha. Buddha
himself said, be where you are, otherwise you will miss
your life.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, isn't that the trick, right, trying yourself be present?
Isn't that the trick? Really?

Speaker 3 (20:21):
When did he say that?

Speaker 2 (20:21):
It's as simple as that. I almost want to get
that tattooed. Be where you are, Be where you are.
Why can't we do that? Otherwise you will miss your
life because yeah, you're thinking about tomorrow, yesterday, next week,
a month from now, what you forgot.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
To do, what you didn't do, what you should have done,
the guilt, the regret.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Hey, all around you life is happening, and it's amazing
and it's beautiful.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
Let's remember that.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
That's a great quote. But it makes me feel like
we will never figure this out because some of these
quotes you using from centuries ago, Like, wow, they're talking
about the same thing that Gabby Burns things talking about.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
We're idiots.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
We just can't get out of our own way. We
can't get out of our own way.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Be where you are, otherwise you will miss your life.
So enjoy where you are today. Thank you for listening
to us on this morning run.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
I'm Amy Robot and I'm DJ Hole, so we'll see
y'all sore
