Speaker 1 (00:01):
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace,
long suffering, gentleness, goodness faith Galatians five, verse twenty two.
Dear Lord, I know that I'm not perfect, and I
never will be. Still, I want to be more godly
in my thoughts and acts. Please help me to live

(00:23):
from the inside out so that I may live a
more godly life. Thank you Lord in Jesus' name. Amen.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
My mother actually had already raised her two half sisters
because my grandfather was married five times. My mother was
his daughter from his first marriage. Now think about, you know,
five wives. By the time that he married, his fifth

(00:55):
wife had two children. Those children were the same age
as my sister and I And I don't know if
my father was worse than my dad or vice versa,
that they were not good fathers or good people, because
they really didn't take care of any of us. So

(01:17):
my mother actually ended up taking those two children and
raising them, so they basically felt more like sisters to
me than being my aunts. So then, once again moving forward,
when my mother went back to my dad, I just

(01:39):
you know, she wanted to bring the family together, and
the only way that she was willing to do that
was also to take the other three children that were
my father's, and take the one of them that was
in a foster home out of that to be able to,
you know, help them, give them some education, give them
a home that was stable, give them love that all

(02:01):
children need. And so I can remember once again asking
my mother whin She turned around to me and looked
at me, and she said, because they're innocent. They're the gems.
They're the miracles that come out of relationships.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
In this episode of Relentless Hope, Shay Vaughn, lifestyle pioneer
and co founder and CEO of WBTVN, the women's broadcast
television network, teaches us about being more godly. Shay opens
up about her childhood, the influential impact of her mother,
who led by example and showed Shay how to be

(02:42):
more godly, and the impact of her father and how
he taught Shay not to be in this world. As
she explains, her father loved himself more than his children.
He never financially supported Shay's mother after they divorced, and
he never took care of his family in a godly way.
We hear how later in life, Shay's father told her

(03:03):
that quote, it seems that you have a need to
have a relationship with me. I don't have a need
to have a relationship with you. End quote. And this
was the confirmation that Shay's father did not love her.
Despite the pain from this experience, Shay's mother was a
shining example of how to live as God had directed us.

(03:26):
Shay teaches us the value of hard work and how
things don't simply come to us, we have to work
for them. As Shay explains, she learned this by watching
her mother, who first worked as a cosmetologist before opening
her own salon, which grew into three businesses, including launching
a cosmetology school to train others. Shay also teaches us

(03:47):
about being godly and raising children the way God encourages
us to, with unconditional love, grace, and stability. We hear
how Shay's mother raised eight children. Three biological ones include Shay,
Shay's mother's two half sisters, and three children from Shay's
father and his relationship with another woman. We learned that

(04:08):
after Shaye's parents remarried, Shay's mother said she'd only do
this if they took in her father's children. As she explained,
her mother did this to bring the family together because
those children were innocent. They were gems and the miracles
that came out of his other relationship, and they weren't
receiving the care and love they needed and deserved. As

(04:31):
she explains, her mother gave her words and actions and
showed Shay how to live, not just saying it to her.
She did it all, supporting herself, starting her own businesses,
and raising eight kids because she cared enough to do it.
We learn how kids need unconditional love, a safe place

(04:51):
to be able to go and tell something that maybe
they know they did wrong. They want to tell us,
but they're afraid because they think they'll be yelled at
or punished for ten telling the truth. As Shay shows us,
her mother always created a safe space for Shay to
go to and tell her everything, and we all deserve
that and need to create that for others, especially children too.

(05:14):
Shay also teaches us to listen to our children, sit
and look at them in the eyes, to give them
a hug, and to really listen to what they have
to say. As Shay explains, kids are telling us everything
that they're thinking and what they're doing if we give
them the opportunities and by giving them opportunities to connect
with us. Sometimes we can save their lives. Famous persons

(05:36):
quote take away for the day. I'm not perfect. I'm
never going to be. And that's the great thing about
living the Christian life and trying to live by faith
is you're trying to get better every day. You're trying
to improve. Tim Tebow all right, thank you for listening
