Speaker 1 (00:01):
For brethren, ye have been called unto liberty. Only use
not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love,
serve one another Galatians five thirteen. Dear Lord, you have
blessed us with the gift of liberty, freedom not merely
for self interest, but for the capacity to serve and
(00:23):
love one another. In this freedom, Lord, we ask that
you guide us not to yield our fleshly desires, but
to serve each other in love. Through Christ, our ultimate
example of service and sacrifice. May we manifest your love
in our daily actions and interactions, always remembering that we
(00:44):
are called to be of service and not just to
be served. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior,
we pray Amen.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
My dad went from my hero to someone that I hate.
In fact, I's been three years not talking to him. Well,
at thirty years old, I get a birthday present for
the first time in twenty years. A big box came
to my door. I opened it up and it's a
beautiful sport coat with a beautiful card from my dad
saying happy birthday. I'd love to talk to you. And
(01:16):
I put the jacket on and it fit perfectly, which
actually meant more to me than anything, because I meant
he took the time to call my wife or my
mom or someone to get my exact measurements to have
this custom made for me. And so as I'm calling him,
and I have him on the old five and one
speaker of fax phones, and I call him up and
he's on the speaker phone and I'm trying it on
(01:37):
so excited, and I'm like, Dad, thank you so much.
I got the jacket. And as I say that, I
open it up and all the pockets were ripped out
of the inside of the jacket and I literally was
crushed again. I'm like, he's punishing me. Like what, I go, Dad,
I can't wear this jacket. And he said, well, it's
not meant for wearing. He said, well, why did you
(01:58):
send me And like roll my eyes, Why did you
send me a jacket that's not meant for wearing? He said,
Cause I want you to hang it in your closet.
He said, all right, why, he said, I want it
to be a reminder, a reminder that you can't take
anything with you. I don't want you to make the
same mistakes that I've made. I don't want you to
(02:18):
put your values in the wrong place. He said, id'
only be the richest man in the cemetery. I want
you to look at that jacket every day.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
In this episode of Relentless Hope, award winning humanitarian and
CEO of Sports One Marketing, David Meltzer teaches us about
becoming vessels of service and allowing inspiration to flow through
us for the benefit of others. After building a successful
career in business and entertainment and becoming a millionaire in
his twenties, David had everything a person could want materially,
(02:53):
but as he reveals, he was deeply unhappy. We learn
how David wasn't living an inspired life, he wasn't living
of service, and he wasn't living with purpose, passion, or profitability.
David shares how he began spending time with the wrong
people and the wrong ideas, and spending money on more
and more things, over extending himself and not asking for
(03:17):
help until he eventually went bankrupt and lost everything. We
learn how David's wife told him he needed to take
stock in who he was, what he wanted to become,
and how he got to that moment. We learn how
David came to realize that he needed to stop building
his life around material possessions and start building it around gratitude, empathy, forgiveness, accountability,
(03:42):
effective communication, and inspiration. Most importantly, David explains that he
realized he had to allow inspiration to come through him
for the benefit of others and to be of service.
We learn how David's life began transforming when he changed
his morning prayer to God and asking God to put
ten people in front of David who he could help.
(04:04):
We hear how David experienced unconditional love and saw what
being of service and giving was all about from his mother.
We also learned how David decided to create a scholarship
at his high school for the Crescent Moon Foundation, which
football Hall of Famer Warren Moon began. As David reveals
after receiving his first paycheck post bankruptcy. David also reveals
(04:27):
why he decided to donate money from the first paycheck
he earned after losing everything. As David shares, giving is
not easy. It's not trading. We don't give to get.
We give because we become vessels. As David explains, when
things happen through us, if we only allow them to
happen for us, then we'll fill up and overflow, which
(04:49):
is what happened to him. But as David began living
his life with the things coming through him and for
the benefit of others, and the more that he did this,
the bigger the vessel he became. And David inspires us
to do the same and to become appreciators, to feel
grateful for every single thing that we are given, and
to find ways to add value to what we're giving
(05:12):
by being of service and giving it away. As David
says today, he has more than he's ever had, and
he lives with passion, purpose and profitability. Famous person quote
take away for the day. Without service, we would not
have a strong quality of life. It's important to the
person who serves as well as to the recipient. It's
(05:35):
the way in which we ourselves grow and develop. Dorothy
