Speaker 1 (00:01):
Okay, guys, and welcome back to another week of Casual Chaos.
This week, I have one of my Special Forces castmates,
Robbie Patel. Welcome to Casual Chaos.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
You what's up.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
I'm so excited, so excited for you to be here. First,
I feel like we should.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Start how nobody on the cast could pronounce your name,
but you.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Just did it, people mispronouncing it constantly. I didn't. I
don't think I even noticed.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Oh you did.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
You did your whole thing where it's like, guys, come on,
remember Lovey Dovey Robby.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
You know what's crazy? I really don't remember a lot
of things from that experience. No, And I don't know why.
I think. I feel like I told you it was
at dinner the other night, Like I think, I don't know.
I either I'm dumb or I just like have like
blocked out a lot of what happened. I mean, I know,
I looked like I was having like the time in

(00:58):
my life the entire time, but I actually was like
low KEI really dialed in.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
No, I mean, you know, and what was funny because
I felt like you were very in the moment and
just kind of going through each thing. But you were
also you were also so like you were not serious
at all.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
You were like the light of the entire cast.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, oh thank you. I mean I had so much
fun at their own. But that's what I'm saying. I
was actually like I was having the time of my life,
but I was actually really focused at the same time. Yeah,
like I was really worried about getting sleep at all times.
I was always thinking about recovery. Oh, like anytime anytime
we did a challenge, I was.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Like Robbie the most of all of us.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Wait, I need to tell your listeners before this gets
any further, before they turn it off, that you were
going to surprise people. I don't know what you've told
them so far, but having I cannot wait for you
guys to watch Gia in this show. Whatever you think

(02:02):
is gonna happen, you are wrong, she is. I just
I wish I could say more. Right now, you are
going to destroy like whatever expectations these people have, and
I cannot wait for them to But the way I
was one of those people. But that's what I'm saying.
I was like, that's my like, my way of getting

(02:22):
through things in general is through like having fun and
laughing but I'm also like I trained for I was
working out like thirteen times twelve, thirteen times a week
for two months going into this.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Thing, and thirteen times a week.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah yeah, like literally two three times a day. I
was working out.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Are you kidding?

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Okay, we have to get into all of that. So
how did this opportunity come to you?

Speaker 3 (02:44):
You're on Fox?

Speaker 2 (02:45):
I'm on Yeah, like this trailer I'm in as far.
We're shooting season four of Animal Control, which is half
our comedy on Fox.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
We're gonna talk about animal Control and also the Lego
Masters show.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Lego Masters just came out. That was great. So I've
basically been meeting with Fox. Joel McHale is one of
my co stars in the show. He hosts like everything
and he's killing it. And I was like, hey, Joel,
I kind of want to be like you. And he's like, well,
you got to host some shows. I said, okay. So
I talked to Fox. They said, what's your ideal show?

(03:19):
I said, you know, I want to make as much
money in his little time. That's my ideal show. They said,
they said great. They go, you just need to start
doing a lot of things. I said great. He said
how's how's Lego Masters. I go, great, I'd love that.
I have kids. I want to do stuff with kids.
So that's how this came up. Special Forces. They threw

(03:39):
it at me, and you know, by the way, I'm
saying for money, but like I would have done all
this stuff for free. This is like they said, hey,
do you want to do Special Forces. I watch a
lot of football, so I knew already what this was
because they run a lot of commercials uring yet and
I was like, yeah, that looks like the experience of
a lifetime. I grew up not getting to do like these,
you know, these like an venture camps that a lot

(04:01):
of people did, like I don't. I can't remember the
name of any of them. But I was like, yeah,
I would do that in a heartbeat. Meanwhile, my wife,
my mother in law, my mother, my agents, they are like, Nope,
do not do this. You're gonna get hurt, big mistake.
My wife was for certain I was gonna like come
back broken into her credit. I often do lately when

(04:24):
I play sports. So yeah, that's how it happened. And
I think it was two months before we left for Morocco.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
So you knew two months prior to.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Leaving, I knew I knew. I mean I knew about
it like I think three two and a half three months,
and then I agreed to it two months prior. And
then I got trainers the next day and I.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Only knew about a month out.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
That's wild.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
The Deckers only knew ten days out.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
You have. They are like stunning and already shredded. Like
we're not worried about that. I mean, the like come
off like you meet them and you're like, oh, you're
like professionally hot people, the two of you. You just
like they really probably always and by the way, I'm
good friends with them. Love them. Eric Decker is never
wearing a shirt. Okay, he is professionally just like all

(05:16):
he does is just like rumble around and exercise and
like do yard work and he's just like a stud
full time.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
No, they're like the hottest couple ever. They really are.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Wait, soo did you get to prepare? Well?

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I work out pretty much every day, but obviously right
before Special Forces, my cousin had her wedding in Italy,
so I was eating pasta leading up to Special Forces,
So I wouldn't say I was fully like locked in.
You know, like definitely wasn't climbing mountains on higher elevation

(05:53):
like Cody Brown and wearing a weighted vest.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
But I I was.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Doing a lot of walking in Italy, so at least
I was getting my cardio in. But you definitely saw it,
like for the cardio aspect, for the strength, I was great,
and even for some of the obstacles, like I'm pretty
fearless when it comes to that stuff, but I saw
it in the cardio and I was like, I definitely
should have trained harder when it came to the cardio

(06:21):
aspect of it, because I was I was winded.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
What was the heart What was the most difficult cardio
thing that you feel like you had to do? Mine
was on the first day. Well, actually, well yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Let's talk about it. Let's talk about the first day.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
The first episode of Special Forces has already come out,
so you guys saw us through the entire I guess
that was our initiation.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yeah, we wake up it for you in a hotel
like a like a nice hotel.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Okay, Okay, it was not that nice.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
In retrospect, it was. It was the best hotel I've
ever been in. After we ended up living in.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
A no, literally, I had a roach in my hotel room. Though,
oh roach, no, no, no, like reve you don't understand.
I think I was freaking myself out so much that
we were leaving the next day that I saw the roach.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
I call my mom.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
I go, you need to get the fin here right now.
She comes into my room. I start hysterically crying. I
call room service or like the cleaning service, and I go,
you really need to come in here, like there's roaches
in my room.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
They literally did nothing.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
She comes in with a broom and all she does
is she looks at me like I have ten heads.
She sweeps the bug up and leaves.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
I go, oh my god, for sure you and your
mom are all right? Sitcom like the two of you together.
I don't know. I feel like every story it's so funny.
But then what a great setup for oh, like, there's
a roach in my ho teleroom too. You're gonna live
like actual military people in a tent with a dirt floor.

(08:07):
And like the grossest food I've ever seen, Like those
sausage links still.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Haunt me, still haunt me. I tell everyone I never
ate dinner. Lunch was my favorite meal.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, I was. I was really. That was another place
where I was super strategic, Like everyone was just in
there chomping, and I was like, Okay, I'm gonna get
a little bit of protein here. I'm gonna get some
veggies here, and I might have a bite or two
of bread just to get some carbs. And then I
always stole a bunch of pieces of fruit and I
took them with me and I put them in my
bag for snacks.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Latter, so our last night in the hotel, we were
woken up at four am. I think some people had
crazy times too, like even three a.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yeah they did, yeah, yeah. And then we're on this
we're on this bus right like this shuttle, and we
don't know where we're going, and everyone's getting to meet
each other, which is nice, or at least the people
you're next to. Next thing, you know, there's some sort
of I don't know, like renegade invasion.

Speaker 3 (09:20):
On the bus, like we were basically under attack under.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
A sie yeah, and then next we have bags over
our heads were thrown to the ground. I heard some
people got kind of hurt during that part.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Well, because yeah, I answered them back and they were
so mad. But all of a sudden, I hear my
mom like kind of yell because they pulled her hair, and.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I was like, oh, mom.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
And then they did it to me and they like
smashed me to the ground and then oh and then
getting off the bus. I don't know who it was
because I had the bag over my head. Whoever it
was is like hit me like so hard, and I.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Was like ow.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
That's all I said was ow. They literally were like,
shut the fuck up. This is not a drill ow
and I couldn't believe it. I was like too stunt
to speak, that's all I could think of. Yeah, and

(10:29):
then we were separated into two groups.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I was with work out in the Mud.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yeah, but we got separated. So I and we were separated,
so they put us.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Into two groups.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
I was fully under the impression that, you know, my mom,
and I kind of thought, Okay, they're probably gonna separate
us at some point, but they did it right off
the jump to like really freak out some of the
couples and like ruffle the feathers a little bit. The
a couple that stayed together were Jesse and Eric, and

(11:05):
so I get into the van and I'm like hyperventilating
and I'm like crying and I'm like, mom, Mom, I
had Brie and Randall in my car, and Brie was
too scared to even speak. Randall goes, hey, Gie, you
know it's Randall, Like, I got you.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Just just calm down. I got you.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
He's the best. Yeah, this stuff with you and your mom,
I mean they were smart to put you guys in
it together because you guys were really concerned about it.
Joe the entire time, Like, that's going to be a
massive storyline in the show for a show. You guys
are so cute, it's unbelievable. I can't wait for people
to see you and your mom, when you and your mom,

(11:50):
the combat moment with you and your mom is going
to be the coolest, sweetest beat, like legendary bit and
a bit of a head scratcher.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
No, definitely, definitely.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
But then yeah, we get into these cars, were stranded
in the middle of the woods, the.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Middle of woods. No, then we then we get on helicopters. Wait, wait,
I don't know if you were in the same group.
You were you in the other group.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I was in your group.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Remember we eat those gross sandwiches on the top of
the mountain, and you were telling me that I needed
to eat the sandwich otherwise.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Because you were still in like Beverly Hills or wherever
in your head. And I'm like, no, you need eat
this sandwich. I know it doesn't taste good. I understand
it's not a good sandwich.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
And I'm like, just like it was literally me, Rubbie
and Johnny and I'm We're sitting there and I go,
guys like, I'm eating lettuce and this meat looks like
it's invested.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
Oh it's gross. And Johnny wasn't eating or drinking water, no,
which came around to buy them. Yeah, he definitely had
a heat stroke at the end of that hill. Thing.
That was crazy.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
God.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Well, it came to the point where I was standing
at the top of the hill and helping everyone like
bring the bags over. But I saw Johnny and I
was like genuinely scared, Like he definitely he couldn't even
be I was.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Worried for him. He clearly had been like chain smoking
for weeks, but he was not in good shape. No,
I was worried for Johnny most of the time. He
actually did so much better than I think he was
doing after him.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Oh, yeah, he pushed himself. He was awesome he did.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
But yeah, running those bags up that hill was that.
And then there's another exercise that people haven't seen yet,
which was bananas that you know with the stretcher. Yeah,
those were the two, like from like a pure fitness standpoint,
that was like, oh, like my training, Like I'm glad

(13:48):
I did all this training. Yeah, just because I felt
like it was. It was still incredibly it was like
so difficult, but at that point my trainers had me doing,
like I got more psyched for this, like I feel
like it was. There's two parts of this thing that
made it really difficult. One was leading up to it.
Everyone tried to scare me about how difficult it was.

(14:09):
Everyone who had done it before said, you know, it's
tougher off camera than is on camera. Then like even
leading up to the thing, like talking to producers or
like the hotel, like the anticipation of it, it was
like you get really psyched thinking like what am I
about to do? Like this seems like really psychotic. I
got massages every day at the hotel.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
By the way, Oh, I know you did, And I
was so jealous.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Because we get to recover, Yeah, we get to the
we get to our grounds. And Rubby's like, yeah, you
guys didn't get massages.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
I don't know. I don't know. I didn't.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
How did you manage to do this? He goes, Oh,
it was so easy. I got them every morning I go.
I tried, I go, I tried to book them.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
It was good, probably because I taken a ball. Literally
when I landed, the first thing I did was I
call and I booked massages for every day, sometimes twice
a day, and I'm doing yoga and it was just
like all like because I was so psyched. I really
like people had me thinking like I'm like, what could
possibly And I was like on YouTube at my hotel
looking up like what's the best way to swim when

(15:14):
you're wearing boots? What do I need to do with
underwater immersion? And like I was just like reading. And
then in my pre interview they were like do you
They're like, so, how are you with hand to hand combat?
And I'm like, I've never done that before. They're like,
have you seen the show? I go, yeah, I've seen
an episode or two. I goes that and every season
they go yeah, So then I run back to my hotel.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
So you didn't watch a season full through.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
No. No, I didn't watch a season all through. Yeah,
which was the dumbest part of the preparation, considering I
did all this other stuff. And I went back to
my hotel this is the day before we left to
go to the to the desert, and I found a
Moroccan guy who didn't speak English. He was a boxing trainer,
and I went to him. Yeah, and I did like
a half hour, you know, boxing training, which I'm so

(16:02):
glad I did.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
I mean, that's crazy that you found someone to do
this with you.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Yeah, I did it, like right away. It was crazy,
but I'm glad I did it because I was like, Okay,
now I know what it feels like to wear these gloves. Yeah,
to like swing and then.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Wait and finding out all of this that you really
were kind of tweaking.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
You were keeping me cop but you were tweaking.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Before we were. I am low key, I'm like very competitive,
and you are too. You're like your whole vibe is
I'm the happy sweetheart like like you come off like
like and I think because of that, everyone assumes that
you're soft. Yeah, Like I had you. I told you this.

(16:44):
I told you this. I had you as one of
the first down, okay, because all I knew about you
was someone told me you were at something to do
with reality TV. And then you look at you and
I'm like, oh, this is like a sweet, like prissy girl,
like there's no way, and then it turns out your brawler.

(17:04):
It is awesome.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Honestly, one of the best things that Rebbi said to me,
He goes, GEA, I've never seen somebody cry and do
the challenge at the same time.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Before that was how you like some people stretch, you know,
to warm up. Yours was okay, let's let's cry. Okay, great,
and then you'd be crying and going hard at the
same time.

Speaker 1 (17:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
It was really a fascinating method.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
No, it was wild. I don't even know how.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
I like, I think I couldn't control myself because I'm
like I'm dying. I'm literally dying, and I feel like
I'm breaking.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
But I think it's like a I think it's like
a toughness, like a dichotomy of toughness that you have
where it's like you have a part of you that's
like I don't want to do this, and then there's
a really tough side of you that's like we're doing
this and so all of but you're dragging the one
who's crying with you along the way. I mean, it

(18:04):
was it was impressive.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Well it was that constant battle of we all right,
just push through. There's only this much left, push through.
And that was how I got through it to like
keep telling myself. But I know when we were on
the course, because you have three kids, you have twins,
and then you had a little baby behind too.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Yeah yeah, yeah, babies, and I have an eight year old.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Yeah, okay, how was it leaving them?

Speaker 1 (18:31):
I know it was hard because you had home renovations,
you had a lot going on, and you felt so
guilty leaving your family.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Oh I felt terrible. Well, my wife already didn't want
me to go, right, and then I was like I
gotta do this. And then we had to move homes
while I was in Morocco, so my wife did it
without me. Crazy.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
I would have wanted to kill you too.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Yeah. And then on top of that, the night before
we're leaving, while you were dealing with roaches, I'm like,
good night and goodbye to my wife and she's like,
the movers didn't show up, and I'm like what She's like, Yeah,
so now I just called a handyman and him and
his wife are gonna come help me. And so the
three of them just moved what they could. They didn't
even finish getting to move because they're not movers. And

(19:17):
then she's like, also, kaya's got a fever, one of
the babies. And I was like, oh my god. Anyway, baby,
I got to get some sleep. I'm off to the desert.
I'll talk to you, and i'll talk to you in
a week or two. I'm so sorry. It was the
worst way.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
It was like the worst, the worst way to leave her.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Because if you if I mean, if everything was at
least situated, like the movers came, obviously everything was good
with your kids leaving, just knowing that one of your
kids had a fever, you probably felt horrible then that
she had to deal with everything alone and that everything
wasn't settled at home. You were probably like, how am
I supposed to give up my phone and just leave

(19:59):
this tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (20:00):
No? And I was already thinking, Okay, I got it.
I'm just gonna do this for a couple of days
and then go home. I was already thinking that because
I'm like that this is I can't do this that long,
and then when that happened, I'm like, oh God, now
I feel really terrible. But that's also that was another
reason I think why I had so much fun at
this thing was because, like I got some of the

(20:22):
best sleep I'd gotten in months a Special Forces. I'm
the first to go to Special Forces and be like,
this is better than than the rest of my life.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Like I was, like, I have to say, I like
and clearly obviously those canvas cots that we were sleeping on,
they clearly do that for a reason because they're sleeping
on those for months at a time.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
They have to be kind of good for you and
kind of good for your sleep.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Yeah, you had your ear you had your ear plugs on,
you had your sleeping mass you were like sleeping beauty
the hotel.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Okay, so people, people, people need to know. People need
to know that I okay, So you have to remember
I I'm coming off of just like not getting sleep
at home, and then I'm also going through this moment
in middle age where all my main concern going into
this was what am I going to be? Like, I'm

(21:23):
going to be tired. I need to get sleep because
if I don't get a full night of sleep, it
feels worse than a hangover. And I also can't drink anymore.
But that wasn't a problet, right, so I said, I
said to myself, I'm going to prioritize sleep. I'm going
to tell them I have migraines, which is fifty percent true,
and I need to bring in ibrid profen and I

(21:44):
also need stuff to like, I get migraines when I
don't sleep, which is also true. So I'm going to
prioritize sleep and bring in melotonein a sleep mask and
ear plugs. And I also brought an ear plugs for
the entire cast, about fifty ear plugs because I was
I was also super worried about snoring and waking other people,
and I didn't want to piss everyone off. So you know,

(22:06):
I just brought all these things in. And I'm sure
in the show I look hilarious because I got earplugs
in a sleep mask.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Like Nick with the baby powder. There was just so
many funny moments. But you and Nick, seriously, we need
We needed you, guys, like we wouldn't have survived without you.

Speaker 3 (22:33):
Guys.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
You were fully like the light in the room. And
you guys made us laugh every single day.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
How great is that? Dude? He's so funny. He's so funny.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Yeah, but I don't think you give yourself enough credit either.
You're hilarious too. You guys together were the funniest duo.
And I think everyone's gonna love seeing that too, because
you guys just were hilarious.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
I think that is to be one of the funniest
moments in the show. I don't want to I don't
want to share what it is, but you know, I
think you've heard this story. I mean, it was so funny.
I'm also not realizing was day one when I got
I got turned into like the camp ambassador and I
was in my I was in my underwear at one point,
and I'm trying to wasn't I talking to them in

(23:19):
my underwear at some point?

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Yeah, because because you couldn't get your pants on in times.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
It's right, and I was just talking to in my pants.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
Oh my god you Oh you were duty recruit.

Speaker 2 (23:41):
Oh that's what it was.

Speaker 1 (23:52):
Obviously people know you as a comedian, But did you
ever and I know the answer to this, but just
for listeners, like.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
What did you do to crack them?

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I felt like you always tried to kind of sneak
some jokes or have this laugh with them, and sometimes
I think they they knew that you weren't getting phased,
and I think that was the problem because they were
trying to break you, but nothing that they were doing

(24:22):
you were just like all right, like nothing phased you.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
So I feel like you have some of this too,
Like I feel like I saw this. You have to
tell me that's true. But I don't like authority to
begin with, and I really don't like like I think
I reverted to who I was when I was in school,
which is like, like you trying to control me just
because you think you're in charge, but for no other reason,

(24:49):
Like I'm I'm going to give you the finger to yourself.

Speaker 3 (24:53):
Right.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
So I was such a smart growing up. I always
got in trouble with teachers and I was kind of
a sm and that's kind of what I became here.
Like I never wanted these guys to think that they
had really any power over me, and I told them
I was very open to them. I go listen, you
can't break me. It's not gonna happen. And that obviously
probably didn't.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
Help, but I oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
And then yeah, I was just like a smart and
I'm also just naturally my coping mechanism is to be
funny and to make comments. And I'm also not used
to not being able to talk, so like that was
the hardest part of the show, is like when you
have to stand there and listen to them, you're not
allowed to move at all, and even though there's a
fly on your face and that kind of stuff was
I'm just used to commenting and dealing and moving, and

(25:39):
you know, I obviously have add like I don't know
what about you didn't. I feel like you were similar
because I feel like you got in trouble as well
for making comments.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Yeah, I got in trouble all the time, but it
would be for little things like that there would be
a fly flying on my face. I would go like this,
and they would be like, eighteen, leave the fly alone,
and I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna swat it away. And
then it was just little things like the one day
I tried to break you, I was walking along the grounds.
I think I might have been duty recruit at the

(26:10):
time because I think I was on I think I
was alone, and he was closing the gate and I
was like, all right, key, let's drop the act.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
I know you kind of like me.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
I was like, let's just like, let's have a conversation
for a minute. And I think I caught him so
off guard that he actually started laughing.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
And I was like, oh, I got you really was, Yeah, no.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
He is do do face. I just didn't understand that.
Can I look like do do is that? Really? I'm like,
do I need to? It's just so mean?

Speaker 1 (26:46):
But I like where did do do face come from?
Because it stemmed from something well.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
We were we were in one of those you know
lineups at our base camp, and he was they were
just going around at this day one, going around trying
to intimidate people and they're just pointing people out and
I think maybe I had moved or said something, which
is I mean, I think me, you and Brie probably
got in trouble the most. Yeah, me, you and Brie

(27:17):
and uh, you know, they're yelling at me. And he
was like it was like a guy. It was like
a like a second grader trying to cut someone down
and being bad at it. Yeah. And I started laughing
when he did it because he goes, you know, do
do face and I was like, that was that was
a rough one. But then everyone started laughing because it

(27:37):
was so it was such a bad and then it
stuck and he just started calling his do doo face
because we just like because I called me do do face.
Oh my god, it was so funny.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
That was hilarious because it's he didn't he didn't stop.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
That's all. That's all you were the whole time.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Yeah, he just kept It was so funny, so funny.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
But nothing that the DS said to you really got
to you.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
But besides, I didn't cry once. I don't think I
got shaken once either, Like I was just not And
I don't know if that's just like I think it
probably had a lot to do with the competitive nature
and me around like I'm never gonna let these guys
think that they're shaking me. No.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Definitely, the Special Force cast, it was basically like Nashville edition.
You were half of the cast was from Nashville. Were
you in contact with Sean Johnson or Jesse or any
of them before coming onto base?

Speaker 2 (28:33):
So Sean and I we we have friends in common. Okay,
that's somehow connected that we were both going to be there.
So I had met Sean, not really but kind of
just okay, just over text, and she was like the nicest,
sweetest person, and so I'd gotten to know her just

(28:54):
briefly in that way, and then once the competition started,
she turned into just the most fierce, intimidating competitor, not
sweet at all. Yeah, like scary lough and you're like, oh,
this is like you've got that like Kobe level of
competitiveness in you. That's like explains why you've accomplished what

(29:17):
you've accomplished.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
I mean, even going back to day one, she was
she led us like she led us through that entire challenge.
She was the team leader and she had that mentality
the whole time, and just watching her.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
She always she always amazed me.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
But like, for example, even though we did very well
during that challenge, I was in the car with her
going back to base that day, and she was beating
herself up because she wanted us to finish that challenge
I think faster or more efficient. There was something that

(29:56):
went wrong, but we still we still won that challenge
on the first day, but something about it wasn't what
she wanted. And you know, it's that competitiveness feeling like
she always needs to be like, you know, always do
things the right way. And it's that mentality that she
grew up with as a gymnast and going to the

(30:19):
Olympics at fifteen, So you really saw those attributes in her.
And I always tried to make her feel better, and
I was like, don't beat yourself up.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
You just led this entire team like you killed it.
But she was. She was hard on herself and she
was always.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
I'm curious, like what did she feel like she didn't
work hard enough on the hill?

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Yeah, she felt like she yes interesting, Yeah, like she
always felt that she could do better. So when she
was in those situations where she felt like she could
do better, she would really beat herself up about it.
And I always I always found that so fascinating because
I was like that definitely was instilled in you when

(31:02):
you were younger competing as a gymnast, that you always
had to do better.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Yeah, because she please she led us the entire time.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Oh yeah. Her and Andrew were both like like she's
more of like a psychopath than he is, but they
both were locked in, Like they both were like she's
another level above him in terms of how locked in
she was, but they were as God. Wait and.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Was Andrew on our side that day? No, I don't
think No, I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
I think Jesse and Eric.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
I remember Cody. I remember I remember Cody was and
that was the first time I thought he's on he
must be and amphetamines because he was racing up and
down that hill and I'm like, this is not I
was like, I'm in really good shape and I'm almost
positive I'm crushing it right now. And he was like
zipping by me, almost like a cartoon, and I was like,

(32:00):
something's wrong. This guy just did meth. That's the only
way this could be possibly happening, but flying by professional athletes.
Oh did you see him on that mountain? Yeah, it
was unlike anything I've ever seen. And he was like
that throughout the competition. That guy deserves whatever gold medal

(32:21):
he deserves. Like his training. Did you talk to him
about his training? He's the guy's Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
I mean he said that he would climb and hike
mountains at a higher elevation, so.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Should interview him. He's the most interesting guy. Okay, sorry, sorry,
higher elevation. Sorry. He did handstands for warm ups. He
did a handstand where he walked around on a handstand
as a warm up in the gym, and he would
work out for three hours a day or something like that, four.

Speaker 1 (32:48):
Hours crazy and he always had a weighted vest I
had to say his cardio for his age, his listen,
the state that he was in and how physically fit
he was for his age was wildly impressive.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Wildly impressive.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
I'm not kidding. I think he is the most interesting,
like fascinating guy in the cast. Like the way he
so obviously comes from, you know, the oddest background of anyone,
I would say, but then he, uh, the way he
prepared and just like the little thing, he's just got
a lot of little uh, he's just I don't know,
he's an eccentric dude.

Speaker 1 (33:25):
Yeah, I mean it definitely comes from his background. And
for the most part on Special Forces, he was you know,
he honestly seems like very he was very caring. He
honestly looked out for most of us at when he could.
There were certain points where I felt like because I
was partnered with him at at some time.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Listeners, Cody is Cody is the guy who is in
the Something Wives, Sister Wives, Sister I just feel like
the listeners need to know this. They probably know the show.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
Yeah, So I mean I think and he faces like
a lot of controversy, and I.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Just feel like.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
In some of the challenges because he was so physically
fit and he really, he really was probably one of
the most physically fit out of all of us. Yeah,
and he was advanced. He could just speed through these challenges.
And obviously there were some of us who were a
little weaker and not as strong, so like especially you

(34:29):
know the girls. As much as a lot of us
powered through, we had our struggles and at point sometimes
I realized that maybe he wasn't the best team player,
but he tried, He really tried.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Yeah, going to that, because you know, he was. He
was also the most controversial part of the cast. I
think you could have figured that out within the first
hour or two because he's so eccentric. But my experience
with him was so different I think from many other people's,
maybe because I wasn't sleeping on the same side of
the tent as him, But like, I found him to

(35:07):
just be I thought, like his personality is like an earnest,
twelve year old boy, like a guy who's really excited
to be there and is kind of always saying what
he's thinking in his head out loud, but you know,

(35:27):
it's always giving everyone unsolicited tips on what needs to
happen next, but really means well. But I think he rubbed.
I know he rubbed at least a couple people the
wrong way, but I didn't actually see any of that.
Did you have beef with him or were you tight
with him?

Speaker 1 (35:42):
I didn't have actual beef with him, but I was
in a challenge with him, you know, brigat a little
annoyed because and you'll have to wait and see. But
it was again kind of just showing those characteristics that
was he just being the best team player and because

(36:03):
he felt that he could, you know, go and excel
during that challenge and maybe we were kind of holding
him back a little bit. So I think in certain situations,
I saw where he would come out. Especially also, I
think a lot of the viewers are going to see
how he kind of misses having that father role. And

(36:25):
I think he struggles with that because I don't really
know where his kids are, but I think he only
lives with one of his kids. But he really you
could tell that he missed that father role and you know,
doing that, and he always looked for somebody to look after.
So he did have really great things about him. And
then I obviously think you saw his struggles which just

(36:46):
come from the way he grew up and how he
was raised.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
And I think he did a good job.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
I think he just his people skills, social emotional intelligence,
you're probably not you know, where he wants them to be.
And he also strikes me he as a guy who's
going through like I think it appears that he's like
going through a somewhat beautiful kind of like he's trying
to reinvent himself and grow up socially, emotionally in a

(37:16):
way that I don't know if he's given the time before.
So I don't know. I obviously saw him through a
rosier lens than everyone else. But I have that tendency
and my wife hates that about me.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
No, I mean you always see the good in people
and it's not a bad thing. I mean, I guess
sometimes it could butt you in the end, but when
we were on Special Forces, it was it wasn't like that.
I think we all kind of saw the light. I
didn't know who Cody was before going on this show,
and then did I really know all of the NFL players?

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Not really? Did I know that Nick Young was an
NBA player? Like, not really?

Speaker 1 (37:54):
I really met everybody for the first time. And when
we did this show, you.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Got a list of most of the cast before you
showed up.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Yeah, Like I kind of figured it.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Out, wow, because my mom knew that Jesse was on
it because they did Dancing with the Stars together, and
they figured it out.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
And then Jesse knew a lot.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
Jesse, Jesse, you knew a lot. So Jesse fed us
a lot of information. And then once we were at
that last hotel before going to base, I pretty much
saw a lot of people, and when we were running
into everyone, we were kind of all.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Okay, who do you got so far? Who was here?

Speaker 1 (38:41):
And so then we all kind of I like basically
formed a list on my phone. Like as we were
sitting at that last hotel, I'm like looking around, I'm like, Okay,
I'm like, all right, this person, that person.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
So I kind of put it together and then my
manager kind of gave me the rundown.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
And then we had that last meeting with Fox at
that hotel before going to base. So there were some
inklings of you know, how to feel about certain people.
But the only person I ever met in person and
genuinely knew before doing Special Forces was Brianna.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Okay, you're yeah, she's a good one to already know. Wait,
what were your like first impressions like versus like expectations
versus reality of the entire cast? Because I showed up
not really knowing the cast. Someone had sent me like
a list, but I just kind of glanced at it
and didn't really know anyone's names. And I guess I'm

(39:38):
just lazy. I didn't even look the names, so I
didn't I didn't really know. I didn't. I mean, I
didn't really know. I knew all the football players because
I watched football, but my I was just expecting, Oh,
some of these people probably suck, because that's what happens
in reality shows. And I was wrong. I didn't think
anyone sucked. Turns out everyone's awesome. But now the biggest

(40:01):
shock for me was finding out that everyone in the show, like,
I'm pretty much the only one on the show who
doesn't have a social media following like everyone has like mass.
I was like, oh, like, everyone's just like a big deal.
I had no idea. That's the That was kind of
my experience with everyone that I just think everyone's really nice. Well,
I feel like you probably have a juicy or because
you knew things before, you probably had.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
Yeah, but I mean honestly not really like I kind
of I really didn't know anybody's background for the most
part besides the athletes, and then even meeting Mark for
the first time, knew he was an influencer. But I
just I kind of got to know everyone for who

(40:45):
they were, and I was the same like you, I
was really shocked and everyone how about how nice everyone
was and just how we all connected. I feel like
so quick and we were like a family in like
two days, which was nuts, And it was.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Crazy how quickly we all felt so close, Like it
was really I just I don't even know how to
explain it. It was so fast. When we first got
to camp and we're in that tent, and you know,
it's crazy how much the show is not like a
like it's it's exactly like it looks off camera like

(41:26):
it's we're really doing this thing the entire time. But
when we first got in that tent, I was looking
around and I'm like, Okay, who's going to be the
crazy people? And I was like, oh, I guess it's
these reality people, like it was you, your mom and Cody.

Speaker 1 (41:41):
Yeah, and there's Eva Is on Housewives of Atlanta.

Speaker 2 (41:45):
Yes, but I don't think I knew she had told
me she was an actress.

Speaker 3 (41:49):
Well she didn't know Amazon Prime thing.

Speaker 2 (41:53):
Yeah, so I didn't realize that she was also, but
I just pinned you three. I's like, oh, those are
going to be the ones that that turn out to
be psychos, and especially your mom because I'm like, oh,
like she's an older woman, you know, and you know,
I was just like, oh like she Oh, I know
why because I had walked by her at the hotel

(42:13):
and she was like, she's really done up. And when
I walked by her at the hotel, I was like, Oh,
that's that's got to be. That's got to be a
reality start. That's on the show. That's what I got
to myself. Yeah, so I just assumed, like and then
obviously I couldn't have been more wrong, Like you and
your mom. You guys are the ones that I got
text about the most after I did it too.

Speaker 3 (42:32):
Really, yeah, people just.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
Know you're who you are. People are like Oh my god,
you didn't tell me you were on the on the
show with the Judeaceis And I was like, uh, yeah,
you how do you? How do you know? And I'm like, yeah,
like what do you have to say? I'm like, really nice,
I don't have to tell you. I like them, and

(42:55):
I don't think I don't think people expect that.

Speaker 3 (42:57):
And I was, no, they don't.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
And you know, it's what reality TV because it all
it's all about what the what cards you're dealt that season,
you know, like what's coming at you, what drama is
being put in place. But like, aside from all that,
my mom is like the sweetest person and so many
fans and so many people say that about her when

(43:18):
they meet her, just like on the street or just
like a regular day.

Speaker 3 (43:23):
And yeah, I mean, and I'm just kind of forming.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
I mean, my name has been out there because I've
kind of been a part of the Real Housewives in
New Jersey, but now doing my own reality show, I'm
trying to now pave my path and it's an interesting
it's an interesting journey for sure.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (43:46):
But then, how did how did you feel about that?

Speaker 1 (43:48):
Because I mean, you're like a natural storyteller, and and
and with your writing and acting, Like, was this weird
being on a reality TV show? Did you feel like
you were telling a story or were you just living
in the moment and you didn't even recognize what was
going on?

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Look, the truth is I was, first of all, I
was a little concerned because people around me had made
me concerned of like, Okay, is this a good idea
to even be on a show like this as someone
who has an acting career, right, and as a filmmaker
and all these things, And you know, again I was.
I was advised by a lot of people to not
do the show for that reason as well, and so

(44:31):
I started to think, maybe they're right, But you know,
I don't. I think this is like the I was like,
this is the experience of a lifetime, really, and I'm
not going to give a like I don't give up,
like if someone wants to judge me, because like, first
of all, I think that's such an antiquated way of thinking.

(44:52):
I don't think it's even true, right, Like I think,
if you do this show, you're a better I think
you're awesome and interesting and cool. And now having done it,
it was one of the absolute best experiences of my life.
It's it's everything I thought it could be and more.
And it gave me an excuse to get these trainers

(45:14):
and I made like these friends that are going to
be my friends, I think for a lifetime, and like
you know, we it is crazy, like we all felt
like a family. And so, yeah, I don't know, it
was it was everything I hoped it could be.

Speaker 1 (45:32):
I felt like you were really just like unapologetically yourself
though I felt like you you really weren't cautious of
the camera seeing around.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
Okay, so so it has let's do with caution. And
this is where my wife was really concerned, rightfully, was
that I'm not able to I know, I'm an actor,
I'm not able to not be myself and so I
forgot that there were there's cameras on was twenty four
to seven, twenty four seven.

Speaker 1 (46:00):
I feel like it's such a real and authentic show
because they don't miss a beat.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
And then obviously what they do with the editing, but
they have they.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Hear everything, so even when you're telling secrets, they hurt,
they hurt them. All the mics are unbelievable, and so
that's the part that I'm really worried about is like,
what are they going to put in their editing wise,
because I was whispering secrets constantly, they heard it all.
I am constantly joking around and sometimes out of context.

(46:33):
My jokes probably won't look good on television. Yeah, so
I'm worried about that. My wife was really worried because
the first thing I told I go yeah, I was like,
it's funny. I completely forgot there were cameras. Like I
was like, honestly, like that didn't even occur to me
most most of the time. And she's like, oh, rufie,
Like because I say stupid, like she has to give

(46:55):
me a speech before we go on dates. She's like,
don't say anything stupid. You know, it's fun.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
But honestly, I feel like people are going to see
that that's just who you are, and hopefully, you know,
even through this podcast that people can kind of watch
after the first episode and just see how much we're
laughing right now, Like this is the energy that you
brought to us at the camp.

Speaker 3 (47:16):
So it was it was pure authentic it wash.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
I appreciate it. Were you able to edit yourself? Like
are I feel like you're probably more aware of the
cameras because you like kind of do that for a living,
you know what.

Speaker 1 (47:29):
And it was so weird because as much as yes,
I was aware that they were there, I felt so
comfortable with you guys. I was like, I'm just spelling everything.
I don't know, I'm just I just feel so vulnerable here.
It was weird. I just I felt I really didn't
pay any attention to them being there.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
Do you think that they're going to show the part
where we all are sitting in a circle and like
everyone's opening up their souls? That was wild. I know
they're definitely going to show that, right.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
But they said that they weren't, and that it was
I know.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Well.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
And then you could see kind of in that moment though,
where everyone kind of put their guard up a little.

Speaker 3 (48:14):
Bit because people people's.

Speaker 1 (48:16):
Lives who fully weren't aired out for I guess the
I guess the whole world to know, they were kind
of hesitant to say certain things, which I get in
I mean, protect your peace and protect your family on
special forces.

Speaker 3 (48:32):
Who did you bond with first?

Speaker 2 (48:34):
Well, I don't know that my memory is good enough
to think who I bonded with or the most I
think about people, I bonded with the most. I feel
like you and I had some very warm, sweet moments.
I think you're just the kind of person. I think
you're just that kind of person. Though. I feel like
everyone probably felt with you the way I felt about you.

(48:55):
I think you just have like a warmth to you
that you know, like I immediately felt within like minutes,
so I was like, okay, like she's a big you know, yeah,
I think, Uh, the Deckers, I became very like Eric
Decker and I were We were like next to each
other and cots, so we were kind of like roommates.

(49:17):
And uh, he's just like this. I mean he and
I have become like best buddies, Like we like work
out together and played pickaball together.

Speaker 1 (49:24):
We're like, wait, Jesse literally tells me that you just
show up and You're like, I'm not here for you,
here for.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
Oh yeah, did you guys have a good conversation when
you guys.

Speaker 3 (49:35):
Talked, Yeah, they were awesome.

Speaker 2 (49:37):
Yeah. I show up. I mean like I go, I
go there. We hang out all the time. So I
think Eric and I became really close buddies. We just
don't know, we just fit together. Well. Randall was probably
the person like, now that I'm thinking about it, he
was the guy that I got close to first because
he and I rode together from the hotel to the

(50:00):
desert on day.

Speaker 3 (50:01):
One, okay, and.

Speaker 2 (50:02):
He and I was just car ride whatever it was
that five hours is how long that was?

Speaker 3 (50:09):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (50:10):
No, no, from the last hotel.

Speaker 2 (50:15):
Yeah, that was something. Yeah, but I just remember he
and I both like we were getting to meet each
other for the first time and getting to each other
and uh uh he's just an awesome, sweet dude. The
only moment I remember is like we stopped there was
like a breakfast thing, and I came back and I
revealed like a kiwed I brought two kiwis, and I go,

(50:38):
hey man, these are superfoods. I gave him one. I go,
we're gonna We're gonna be okay.

Speaker 3 (50:47):
Is that like sense of comfort like I got?

Speaker 2 (50:50):
Yeah, I got his Kiwi's, so we're gonna be fine.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
I don't have to worry about anything else.

Speaker 2 (50:56):
Yeah. And then and then the guy I think I
got close to the most towards the end was Probabe Nick,
because he and I would ever actually together at the
same time. We were actually only together in the group
setting for the most part. But then I mean, I
think he and I were just like we would just
sometimes we just be joking around together a lot. Oh yeah,

(51:19):
he made me laugh so much.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
Oh my god, well made us laugh.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
But I mean I think, really, you know, people are
going to be so shocked about your strength.

Speaker 3 (51:28):
You were so strong. You really had that a competit to.

Speaker 1 (51:41):
What was something that you learned about yourself before concluding
this episode? What was something that Special Force has taught
you about yourself?

Speaker 2 (51:49):
You know everyone asked me that question at this point,
I should have a better answer. Can you give me
your answer? What did you learn about yourself?

Speaker 3 (51:58):
Honestly?

Speaker 1 (51:58):
For me, let me kind of let go of a
lot of things. I just felt like during the time there,
I let go of a lot.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
I faced all my fears.

Speaker 1 (52:11):
So now I feel like I can do absolutely anything.

Speaker 3 (52:14):
I'm like, test me, Oh I got it, Like I'm good.

Speaker 1 (52:19):
And I mean I think it also it taught me
like to have patience and just like the way we
all bonded with each other, like you always got to
have the person you're standing with spack.

Speaker 3 (52:36):
So it taught me.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
That that's awesome. Those are good lessons. I mean, I
think it taught me that I still have problems with authority.
It taught me that no country would really win a
war with me at the front. I think it taught

(52:58):
me I have great respect for what those people do
for yeah, I have. Really that was probably the best
lesson of the whole thing, was just the deep understanding
for what people in any military have to go through,
much less the highest levels of it. And then I

(53:21):
also just think it was really affirming in terms of look,
I you know, I've kind of just always had this
complex where I feel I probably talk I think I
talk about this in the show, but like where I
felt like kind of you know, like I have something

(53:42):
to prove physically mentally and to be in a group
of people and to feel like, oh I can I
can hang. I might not be the strongest guy or
the smartest guy, but I don't think anyone who's going
to be mentally tougher than me. And to have a

(54:04):
place where I felt like I could prove that was,
you know, it was more than just gratifying. I think
I actually probably needed that because I there's a confidence
that I got out of that that that felt really good,
don't you.

Speaker 3 (54:20):
I think it boosted everyone's self esteem.

Speaker 1 (54:23):
Yeah, because we really tested our bodies to things that
we will never do again. But it really it was
kind of like, you know, good job, like a nice
pot on the back.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (54:37):
I mean, I feel like it also showed us all
a sense of like worthiness, like Okay, we are worth it,
like this is this is great. It kind of the
whole show also, I feel like gave us even though
you know, sometimes in this world that we're all in
and we're public figures and influencers, NFL players, you know,

(54:59):
you get kind of lost and you kind of look
for your purpose again. And I feel like this show
really does show you purpose as well.

Speaker 2 (55:08):
I totally agree, and I just yeah, I And it's
also like I want to do more of these now.
I'm also really motivated now to get in the best,
like I you know, right now, you know, I'm in
my trailer right now, I have you know, like I
keep dumbbells in my trailer, like even if I can
get like a ten minute workout, like you know, I

(55:29):
am so obsessed with whatever this wherever I'm headed with
this fitness thing. I love it. And you know, I
think this show will end up being a huge kind
of turning point for me physically as well.

Speaker 3 (55:43):
Definitely.

Speaker 2 (55:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:45):
Well, Robbie, thank you so much for coming on casual Chaos.
