Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Hey there, everyone,
and welcome to Morning Run. It's Monday, December fifteenth.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ Holmes. Good morning to
you from a the word is it blistery? Should we
call Boston a blistery Boston on this Morning Run? Where?
How many below?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
Is it blustery? Said? Blistery? I mean maybe your skin
can get blisters if it feels like negative ten outside,
which is what the local meteorologists just told us it
felt like outside right now.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
But it is we don't get to come to Boston
a whole lot. I'm sure it's a beautiful city, but
we ain't see it because it wasn't didn't feel good
to be outside yesterday. But good morning, wherever you might be.
I always appreciate you going along for a run with
us and folks, we really have two pretty big, breaking
and shocking stories we need to get to that we're

(00:53):
seeing from the overnight hours. One having to do with
the absolute Hollywood legend icon and heavyweight Rob Reiner and
his wife found dead in their home and an apparent
homicide investigation is underway. The other big story, Robes is
up in this area where we are, and actually we
just passed Providence on our way here to Boston. But

(01:18):
a shocking story to say now that a gunman, a murderer,
a killer is on the loose this.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Morning, after everyone was told to move about freely, that
everything was under control, that the suspect or the person
who they were seeking was in custody. Turns out wrong person.
And so yes, we were passing through we thought everything
was calm and safe and great, and turns out they
don't even know if he's in the state.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And so that is where we'll start this morning, folks.
The person detained in connection with that deadly Brown University
shooting has been released, so as of this morning, the
actual gunman is still on the loose. And that was
a scary statement to hear from the mayor of Providence

(02:06):
to say that not only do we not know where
this person is, said we don't even know. We can't
even confirm they've left the state or not.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
So the investigation is essentially starting over from scratch. The
shooting happened on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Brown
University there in Providence, and the arrest was made early
Sunday morning, they surrounded this person in a hotel near
the Providence Airport, and it looked like they had their guy.

(02:34):
But now they say that the evidence is sending them
in another direction. They claim there's no immediate threat to
the community. That's hard to get our head around when
you know that you've got a person who walked into
a classroom and shot ten people. Eleven people were injured total.
But this is a scary situation and it's a little perplexing.

(02:57):
And there weren't any videos or there's no shots off
it's it was an older campus. They said, there just
weren't a lot of cameras on campus, so we don't
even know who what this person looks like.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
And they are not going to put any new shelter
in place. They want to reiterate the reason they say
there's no threat to the community is because they say
there has been nothing, no evidence that there is a threat.
They haven't seen anything. There's nothing out there that suggests
that there is a threat to the community. And that's
why they initially lifted the first shelter in place. They

(03:27):
said it wasn't because they had a suspect, it was
because they felt there was no longer an actual threat.
Those were their words. But as of this morning, this
person who killed two students on that campus during final
exams and injured another nine is on the loose and
they have no idea where.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
And they had no evidence that something was going to
happen beforehand. So for me, that statement falls a little flat.
It wasn't as if there were warning signs ahead of
time that they knew that something might happen, So how
would this time be any different?

Speaker 2 (03:56):
That's what community members are saying right now. Everybody in
the air continue to be on edge. So that was
a shocking development overnight. The other one, we actually first
started getting word from our people on the West Coast
sending us notes last night letting us know that Hollywood
a legend Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle were found
dead at their La Area home. This was an apparent homicide.

(04:19):
As how it is now being investigated, but Robes the
story was developing and it's not even police as of
this recording. I'm not sure if police have even said
the name Rob Reiner is actually his family, Yes, they
did so.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
It was his family who confirmed that Rob Reiner and
his wife passed away. I passed away as a strange
term because they died violently. I think the information that's
coming at is that they actually suffered stab wounds. So
there is a homicide investigation. There is a death investigation.
But police are being very cagey about this. They are

(04:51):
not saying much. In fact, a press conference that we
watched was so they were trying to dance around words
so carefully that it became comical because they didn't want
to admit what they knew and didn't want to say
what they didn't know.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
I mean, it was kg to the point of mockery,
and everybody was looking at it and look, we know
what they're up against, but they aren't saying much of anything.
They were waiting as far as their investigation was to
get warrants. They needed search warrants. They said to even
go into the house to begin the investigation. So that's
what's going on. But we heard from the family we
knew the residence at least was connected to Rob Reiner

(05:28):
and his wife. So that's why the word first got out.
And this is in the very exclusive Brentwood neighborhood of
la The family statement saying it is with profound sorrow
that we announced the tragic passing of Michelle and Rob Reiner.
We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we asked
for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time. Our authorities found
their bodies. It's unclear of what the circumstances were that

(05:51):
brought authorities to the house in the first place.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
A family member apparently went to go check on them
and called police. That's at least some of the initial reports.
Around three o'clock local time yesterday afternoon, and that's when
police found two deceased victims, but they wouldn't again even
say who their names were. And the part that was
so strange about the press conferences. They were saying it

(06:13):
was a homicide investigation, but they said they were not
pursuing any suspects and that the community was safe. So
that was very perplexing to a lot of people trying
to piece together or connect the dots as to how
there could be a violent homicide of two very prominent
Hollywood folks who are known and beloved, and yet there's

(06:34):
no one that they're actually pursuing.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
You have to let the community know that there's not
a killer running around your neighborhood. They must know or
feel pretty good about that person not being a threat
to anyone else or not being on the streets. Even so,
we shall see that with the press conference, it was
a tough one to watch. We went back. I mean,
there are certain Rob Ryner movies immediately name, but he

(07:02):
became I mean the past several not just years, decades,
has been very much a political activist. He's very much known,
almost legendary in that space as well. And a lot
of the notes and condolences and a public sentiment that
was put out there came.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
From prominent Democrats like Obama, Yes to that level, Yes,
President Obama, Gavin Newsom, Karen Vass, the LA mayor, a
lot of people thanking him for his service to the community,
to the state of California, to fighting for LGBTQ plus rights.
He was a staunch supporter of so many marginalized communities

(07:38):
and put his money where his mouth was and really did.
He actually had a big interview on MSNBC. I guess
it's ms now now just last month, but really he
is and put himself in the political circles and was
outspoken against Trump and really led with his heart and
his beliefs in everything he did. But yes, we love

(07:58):
his movies so much. A Princess The Princess Bride is
probably our favorite shared movie that we've ever seen together,
for sure. And he just I've met him once and
he was just he seemed as the kindest, a larger
than live kind of fellow, just jovial and fun and
sweet and big hearted. And you see all of the
folks now talking about giving their condolences online, but everyone

(08:22):
speaks just about how wonderful and how warming he was
to be around.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Expecting that to be a developing story throughout today, we
do want to continue on the run now, and we
had done that awful attack in Australia or police say
a father son duo are responsible for the deadly attack
in Australia that targeted Jews that were celebrating Hanukkah. Fifteen
now killed. I think those numbers went up after the

(08:48):
initial war they did. It's right. But there's that Bondai beach.
At least forty others were injured, but fifteen now confirmed
dead in that attack.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Wow. And the attacker is a fifty year old man
who was killed and his son who's twenty four is injured.
He's in the hospital so he is expected to survive
and face some very serious charges. The Prime Minister is
already talking about taking on and passing new gun laws in.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
The vay was given our country.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yes, this is incredible, this is unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
In a matter of hours, they say, yeah, we gotta
do something about this.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
And they and they will versus yes, us talking about
it and never doing anything. But they want to limit
the number of guns someone can have. They want to
review licenses folks. So they already want to take action
to try and make sure something like this doesn't happen.
But among those dead, I was reading an eighty seven
year old survivor of the Holocaust who shielded his wife
from bullets coming at them and he died in the process.

(09:43):
Just there are just so many tragic stories coming out
of this massacre that, oh.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
The there's a very very young victim in this as well. Well, Yes,
the children were involved and killed as a part of
this massacre. And there's some really really chilling video that's
making it way around. You know, I said, it's not
just making his way on social media. News outlets are
airing this stuff of showing this man with a gun

(10:08):
essentially in a gun battle with police. It is, it
is terrifying.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
And then there's this unbelievable man who rushed, armed and
tackled the guy, kicked the gun out of the way
and really put his own life in harm's way to
save others. You know, you see these horrific tragedies and
then you see these unbelievable acts of bravery and selflessness,
and it's beautiful, but it always tends to show up

(10:33):
at the worst of times.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
All right, continuing here on the run on this Monday morning.
Something we'll want to let you know we are keeping
an eye on, yes, what we call a verdict watch
continues now. The jury continues to deliberate today in the
trial of Brian Walsh, the Massachusetts man who's admitted to
dismembering and disposing of his wife's body, but says he
did not kill her. This will be now Robes, their
first full day of deliberations after getting the case, and

(10:58):
we'd never know how these things are going to go, right.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
So they can convict him. The prosecution initially brought this
first degree murder charge against Brian Walsh, but the jury
does have the option of going with second degree if
they don't believe the murder was premeditated, and after hearing
all the evidence, we've certainly waited on what we think
the jury might come back with, but you never know
in these things. They had what a couple hours on
Friday to deliberate. So yes, today the first full day,

(11:22):
and we will be watching and will bring you any
developments in our verdict.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Watch all right, folks, stay here when we come back.
Why you absolutely need to be spending two dollars today.
And an awful, awful injury in the NFL. One of
the and possibly the biggest star in the league is
out for the rest of the season. Statement all right, folks,

(11:55):
we continue on this Monday morning run. And no matter
what team you for, if you are a sports fan,
a football fan, you hate to hear this. This is
this is the face of the league in a lot
of ways, Patrick Mahomes and even if you don't watch
a game, you still see his face.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
On commercial He's everywhere.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
You can't get away from him. But he tore his
ACL yesterday in a game and is now out for
the rest of the year. Look, only a few games
left and now they lost this game, so they're out
of playoff contention. So they weren't going to go for
a Super Bowl anyway, but this was in the last
two minutes of the game. This happens, and so now
the question is how quickly can he come back? Will
he be ready for next season? Wow?

Speaker 1 (12:35):
So the start of next year is in question right
now with his injury.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
With at ACL these things, everybody knows these things take
all right.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
So yes, so he's exploring his surgical options right now.
Hopefully he gets on that soon.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
But man, he will probably have surgery today.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
I was going to say, yes, why wouldn't you get
the best of the best and you get it done quickly.
But here's what Patrick Mahomes tweeted after his injury. And
this is just so heart hurt rending to hear. Don't
know why this had to happen, and not going to
lie it hurts. But all we can do now is
trust in God and attack every single day over and
over again. Thank you, Chiefs Kingdom for always supporting me,

(13:13):
and for everyone who has reached out and sad prayers.
I will be back stronger than ever. How old is
he is?

Speaker 2 (13:19):
He he's early thirties.

Speaker 1 (13:22):
Ye, okay, so he's got he's got his side.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Oh yeah, yeah, he still has that. Oh yeah, he
doesn't have that issue. I see you typing over there.
Quickly come he's oh.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
He's only thirty. Yeah, so he's a young guy. Hopefully
he'll be back and yeah, stronger than ever. When you're thirty,
you can say that and mean it.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
All right, folks, on the last leg, here, grab you
two dollars, get out there, get a ticket. It is
getting really, really serious now one point one billion dollars
for grabs tonight's Powerball drunk.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
I didn't even check our ticket. We did get a ticket.
I didn't see if we checked. I have to. We're
in Boston, soult When I get home, I'm going to
see we didn't winning. But how do you know that?

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Because they're drawing again tonight.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
That I know they didn't win the big thing, but
we could have won a couple.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
Okay, we didn't check that out.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
I always want to see. I've never won anything like
on a scratch off, nothing ever, not a it's probably
most people's experience though. But yes, we'll be buying more
lottery tickets today. The drawing is tonight five hundred and
three point four million. Now, if you take.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
That cash option, which you all should.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yes, exactly. And now the five in front of that
looks a lot better than the four, right, Yeah, it
makes a difference. Yeah. I don't know why five hundred
and three million is so much better than four hundred
and something million, but.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
It just is. And this is where we are. Well, folks,
before we let you go, something we'd like for you
to consider it is our quote of the day.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
You seem excited about this because.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
You will immediately recognize it, and that quote is death
cannot stop true love. All it can do is delay
it for a while. And we give that, of course,
an honor today of Rob Reiner, who is we can say,
robes responsible for one of our absolutely favorite movies. Individually

(15:10):
and together. It's even more special to us, to the
point we have even decorated our home with quotes from
this movie.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
That's right. We have a neon sign in our home
that says, as you wish from The Princess Bride, and yes,
I love that quote from The Princess Bride. Rob Reiner
was the genius behind that movie. I mean, I think
about how wonderful you think about combining or meshing genres
of movies, and the fact that he could do it
so brilliantly. It is a classic. If you've never seen it,

(15:39):
please watch it. I saw someone write that that was
their Desert Island movie, that if they had to watch
one movie on repeat, it would be that one. Because
it's a rom com, it's an action comedy. It's good
for kids and families. It has heart, it has thrills,
it has humor, it's everything.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
I didn't give him enough credit. I said credit you
stop and think how versatile he was from a misery
to a few good men, princess bride.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
American president.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
How could he pull all the others.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Stand by me.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
That's very versatile.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Incredible, that's very versatile.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
So in honor of him, with that, folks, death cannot
stop true love. All it can do is delay it
for a while. ALIGNE delivered by Wesley and one of
the sweeter moments in what was very funny at times,
but that was a sweet and poignant moment he had.
So we wanted to share that today. So folks, take
that with him wherever you are. I hope you have

(16:31):
a good day. Thanks for running with us. I'm T. J.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Holmes and I'm Amy Roebuck. We'll run with you soon.
