Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, and welcome to Morning Run. It is Monday,
June swond I'm Amy Robos and I'm TJ.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Holmes, and here we are starting off on a Monday.
We have to start with this, folks. An act of
terror in Boulder, Colorado. Eight people injured and burned during
what was a peaceful walk down a pedestrian street. Police
say the suspect yelled free Palestine during that attack.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Also on the Morning Run, defying President Trump's order, California
allows a transgender athlete to compete in its high school
track and field championships, and that athlete wins, but with
an asterisk. And the fourth week of testimony begins in
the Seawan Diddy Combs trial with last week's bombshell witness
Mia back on the stand.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
And President Trump has weighed in on Diddy and says
he expects to be asked soon for a pardon. Also
this the finals are set and it will feature the
NBA's most valuable player going against the NBA's most overrated player.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Plus, it is now officially hurricane season and experts are
warning of another above average year of storms as they
released the annual list of names.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Also on the run this morning. Another big weekend at
the box office, with two horror movies making the list
of top five, one of which folks had Robock and
I in tears this weekend. It was a wonderful Suitet
sind Off for certainly fans of horror movies. But we're
talking about Tony Todd. We'll get into it. But what
a wonderful moment in the middle of a horror movie.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
I just got chills reliving the moment again. We can't
wait to get to that story, but we do, unfortunately,
have to begin today's run on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado,
where eight people were injured in a bizarre and frightening
attack that the FBI is calling an act of terrorism.
Police got initial reports of a man setting people on fire.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Now FBI now says it was a man using a
makeshift flamethrower and an incendiary device to attack a group
of people who gathered for a pro Israel demonstration. According
to the FBI, the man was heard yelling Free Palestine
during the attack. He was taken into custody at the
scene and has been identified as forty five year old
On Mohammed Sabre.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Solomon CBS is reporting he is an Egyptian national who
entered the US on a non immigrant visa that expired
two years ago. Now, of the eight injured, there were
four women and four men, ages fifty two to eighty eight.
One of those victims is in critical condition. And the
group that was attacked is part of a weekly gathering.
It's a group ironically called Run for Their Lives, and
(02:46):
members describe themselves as an a political organization with the
sole mission of walking peacefully to raise awareness for the
hostages still held by Hamas. And you and I were
just on this street recently. It's a beautiful part of Boulder, Colorado.
It's a pedestrian street. There are shops and restaurants and
(03:07):
the last place you'd think something like this would happen.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah, it's considered an outdoor pedestrian mall, as they call it.
And it is as beautiful and as gorgeous as the
rockies that are surrounding it. So it really is. Especially
on a Sunday on a nice day. You can only
imagine how many people were out and enjoying the day.
This group, the Robes, they said they were formed the
week after the Hamas attack that started the entire back
(03:30):
and forth and war we have going on now. So
that was a year and a half ago in October
of twenty twenty three. They said they started this organization
a week later and have been walking every single week
as part of a demonstration, and this is the first
time they were attacked.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
It's incredibly disheartening and certainly sad, and we wish saw
all those folks were covering in the hospital the very best.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I wanted to mention as well the ages of the
group because there's some talk out there online saying that
this person just burned children in Boulder, Colorado. Don't know
where that stuff came from, but the ages according to
the FBI, fifty two to eighty eight of the people
who have been injured in this attack. We want to
continue now on our run here on this Monday morning,
and a follow up for you. Now, remember last week
(04:12):
right here all morning Ron, we talked about this. President
Trump threatened to pull federal funding from California if the
state allowed a transgender girl to compete in the state's
high school track and field championships. Well, that transgender girl
did compete. Well, that transgender girl also won two state titles.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Ab Hernandez is her name. She's a junior from southern California,
and she qualified for the state championships in three events,
the high jump, the triple jump, and the long jump.
After she qualified, Trump issued his warning to the state
and said Hernandez was a transitioned male athlete who was
a less than average competitor. But as a female, this
(04:54):
transitioned person is practically unbeatable. Trump goes on to say
this is not fair and totally demeaning to women and girls.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Well, Hernandez went on to finish first in the high
jump and the triple jump, ended up second in the
long jump. It was state officials defied President Trump by
allowing the athlete to compete, but made a rule change
that was meant to be a compromise. So this was
the rule change. Allow one extra competitor and one extra
(05:24):
winner in each event that a trans athlete competes. Now
to break them down another way, every girl gets the
medal she would have gotten had the trans athlete not competed.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Makes sense, It does make sense, but I think it
still has left a lot of folks scratching their head
as in, is this the best way to handle this situation.
So basically every competitor got bumped up one spot because
the transgender athlete ended up being number one and in
one case number two. Their were sporatic protest around the stadium,
(06:00):
including a plane that flew over with a banner behind
it that read no boys in girls' sports.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Did you see some of these images from the podium.
You probably did in some of the articles. But this
transgender girl is on the podium first place at the
top with a medal, So whoever was second then got
bumped up, So you see two people in the number
one spot. I don't know about the official records, so
who goes down? Is the official state champion? Is it
(06:27):
a duel or is it just the sis gender girl?
And I don't know, but you felt bad for the
athletes when you see this. These are kids, These are
young people who are now thrown into this awkward, kind
of uncomfortable political back and forth and mess.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Right, it's one of those situations where they're trying to
let everybody win, but everyone kind of loses because everyone
loses something, it takes away something, and what is the
right way forward? I don't think anyone knows this was
the first of its kind in this country, California, literally
trying out something new to try and appease everyone in
this difficult situation. How do you go forward? How do
(07:08):
you handle athletes? How do you handle this in bigger competitions,
in worldwide competitions. I mean, there are so many questions
and no one has the answer.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
I need to note as well, this ab Hernandez is
a junior, is a junior in high school. So we'll
be back. So dominated as a junior, So we'll be back.
And this conversation is not done. No next leg of
our run. Now it brings us back to Lower Manhattan
for the start of the fourth full week of testimony
(07:37):
in the Diddy trial. The cross examination of Mia continues
this morning. She's another key prosecution witness who served as
Sean Colmbs's assistant for years and was a close friend
to his ex Cassie Ventura Fine.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
She is testifying only under the pseudonym Mia, and the
courtroom was given very strict instructions to protect her identity.
Mia has been testifying about a pattern of violent and
abusive behavi she witnessed and she endured. She's accused Combs
of rape and a series of sexual assaults during the
time she was working for him. That was about an
eight year period.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Yeah. But during her across examination, the defense tried to
chip away at her testimony by showing a series of
social media posts she made in which she was effusive
in her praise and love for Ditty, posts made after
alleged assault. She'll be back on the stand today, I
think she was. I don't know if they anticipated her
going this long, So this might be going a little
(08:30):
farther as Wea're not sure how long now she is
going to be on the stand.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
All right, We will of course keep you updated on
that and next up on a run. Here's a question
I hadn't even considered, but we'll pose it to you
because it was posed to him. Could President Trump save Ditty?
A reporter asked him that directly late Friday if he
would consider pardoning Combs. Trump's initial response, well, nobody's asked,
(08:55):
But then in the next breath he said this, I
know people are thinking about it. I think that people
are very close to asking did he just.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Come up with that off the top of his head,
or is there something like it?
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Okay, sounds like he might have just thought of that
in the moments.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Okay, well, President Trump then went on to say that
he hasn't been following the trial closely, and he hasn't
spoken to or seen did He in years after saying
years ago that did he was in fact a friend
of his. But the President said he would quote, certainly
look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated,
whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't
have an impact on me in quotes. Now, legally speaking,
(09:31):
can he pardon? Did he? Trump can shut this trial
down today if he wants to, because did he is
facing federal charges, and that is something the President can
step in and give what they call him we talked
about unconditional what are they called the pardons. Yes, there's
a way he can just wipe the slate.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Clean like he did with Eric Adams.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Could he say, now those charges end up getting drops, right,
But could you imagine Trump coming in and saving another
very famous New Yorker like that?
Speaker 1 (10:02):
It would be hard to imagine. And like he did say,
we should point out he has not looked at the
facts of the trial. So perhaps when he does, he
may reconsider. But you never know. That is certainly he's
an outlier and unpredictable.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
All right, well, stay with us folks here on this
Monday morning run. When we come back, the NBA Finals
will start this week and the best player in the
league will go up against the guy who was voted
most overrated player in the league. Also, Andrea, Barry Dexter
are on the way, but so are Melissa, Lorenzo and Olga.
We'll get into the new names for all the new
(10:35):
Hurricanes and more importantly, just how bad of a hurricane
season is now predicted. And for our last leg we're
going to have for you Today, we went to the movies,
saw a horror movie and we were in tears. Will explain.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Welcome back to this Monday morning run. And next up
on the NBA Finals matchup is set and it's going
to feature two small market teams and it will also
feature the NBA's best player going against the NBA's most
overrated player.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah. Oklahoma City Thunder are led by league MVP Shay
gilgis Alexander, so he's the MVP that makes him the
best player in the league. The Pacers are led by
Tyrese Halliburton, who has had a breakout performance during the playoffs,
but he was also voted the most overrated player in
the NBA and Robes. This had to sting because it
(11:34):
was voted on by fellow players. This was an anonymous
poll that was taking this year and it was put
in The Atlantic, and he was absolutely voted the most overrated.
I am so happy for this kid that he's having
this moment.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Now. Wait oh, because people were saying, yeah, you think
you're great, but you're not. I kept hearing looking, you know,
I was trying to follow everything, but I kept hearing
the announcers say Halliburton, Hallton, Halliburton. That's all I heard.
During the next game. It was really annoying as we
were losing. Halliburton, Halliverton, Haliverton.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Before kid, when your peers say that about you, that
that's got a sting, right, it's motivating, right, It clearly was.
And he's in the finals. I'm really happy for it.
Really all right.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
That is good to hear. I didn't know all of
that backstory. The Thunder had the best record in the
NBA this season. Meanwhile, this is the first finals in
twenty five years for the Pacers. That's pretty cool. Game
One of the finals is Thursday, night in Oklahoma. Looks
like I was seeing all the betting odds. Everyone has
it for the Thunder, like overwhelmingly. I think the Thunder
(12:38):
is going to win, So maybe that'll motivate the Pacers.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
I don't think the Pacers were a favorite in any
series they play. Maybe the Earl. I'm trying to figure
their first round. But yes, that makes sense, and yes
we're still getting it over getting over it here in
New York.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
We are licking our wounds.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
That was tough one all right, final leg of our
run here on this Monday morning, June first, twenty twenty five. Oh,
the next leg. It's not the.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Fun, it's it's the it's right before the final all
of our run.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Next to the last leg. Well, I don't feel like
running today. I'm trying to get it over with with
this leg. June first, two, twenty five hurricane season officially underway.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting an above
average year for storms, anticipating anywhere from six to ten,
with three to five of them becoming major hurricanes.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
And Noah believes we can have as many as nineteen
named storms this year. Just for your perspective, fourteen is
about the average. It's been that way for the past
thirty years. But last year we also had a strong season.
We had eighteen named storms, five of them making landfall,
and the two most severe. You can't forget these names.
Hurricane Helene killed more than two hundred people and Hurricane Milton,
(13:48):
whose storm surge cousted more than thirty four billion dollars
in damages.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
So every time they do make these predictions, they do
come out with the names for the storms in twenty
twenty five. These are always interesting to see until they
become hurricanes. The Dow damage, right, I'm sure at some
point when we saw the list said Milton on it.
We didn't think much of it, right until it became
Hurricane Milton, and now we hate it. But here are
some of the names, alphabetical order. I'm gonna do the
(14:15):
standouts for me. There's a Andrea. Sounds like such a sweet,
sweet lady. Right. There's a Berry, he doesn't sound.
Speaker 1 (14:21):
Berry sounds like your next door neighbor.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Barry Dexter. Is it just because of the show that.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Yes, Serial Killer? I feel like that does already sounds
like a deadly hurricane.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
What is it umberto Amelda.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Yeah, Jerry is funny to me. I don't know why,
Like any Jerry's out there, lovely name. I've got an
uncle Jerry, but Jerry just seems like a funny name
for a hurricane. Karen, how about Karen come in your way?
Speaker 2 (14:45):
She's probably gonna hit a black community.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
But Karen did not need any more hate. Like what
you say.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
You completely skipped over. Everybody else is trying to cancel me.
Now you said, never mind, We'll keep going.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Go ahead, Okay, Sorry, I'm gonna have to listen back
to the fo to see what you said. I was
on my Karen. Melissa also a sweet name, but Wendy
at least it's not Wendy. Sorry. I had to go there.
All right, We're gonna move on now before it so
I can save myself and apparently save you from something
you said that I don't know, all right For the
(15:16):
final leg of our run, movie theaters are back. This weekend.
Box office numbers are up one hundred and twenty percent
from the same weekend a year ago. That's pretty cool,
bringing in one hundred and forty nine million dollars domestically
for the box office this weekend.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Yeah, and we've got some big winners out there that
are driving this Leelan w and Stitch, which of course
now is an international phenomenon, and then a Mission Impossible
the Final Reckoning. They had the top two spots once again.
Leeloin's Stitch, likely gonna be the first Hollywood movie this
year to pass a billion dollars, stayed at the number
one spot for the second week, moving past that six
hundred million dollar mark. Mission Impossible came in second again.
(15:53):
Newcomer Karate Kid Legends is in third. Bit of a
disappointment maybe for Sony who thought bringing Ralph Macchio and
Chan together could be a bigger draw.
Speaker 1 (16:02):
Rounding out the top five, two highly reviewed horror movies
We love this final destination. Bloodlines came in fourth place,
earning another ten point eight million. This was its third
weekend at the box office. It is the franchise's highest
grossing film in the series, with nearly two hundred and
thirty million dollars globally. We were a little late to
(16:22):
seeing this movie. We wanted to see it on opening day,
but we had graduations and family coming in and then
a trip to Memphis, so we finally got around to
seeing it, but man, it was worth the weight it was.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
And a lot of you all know Tony Todd, who's
classically candy man, but he also played a significant role,
not a big role, but a very important role in
these Final Destination movies as the guy who kind of
helped the kids. He was a he was a mortician,
I believe he played, but he corner, yeah right, and
he kind of helped the show up every once in
(16:55):
a while on the deep, very creepy voice and say
you can't be death, Da da da. So he was
in this fifth movie. We know he passed away and
he had been sick, and you could see in the
movie he certainly whatever illness had had its physical effects
on him. But he got a final moment robes. We
weren't expecting we saw him. We were so excited and
we were worried, maybe they're going to kill him off
(17:15):
in this one, right, But he had the sweetest send
off they could possibly come up with.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yeah, they wanted to make sure this was according to
the directors, that they weren't going to make him a victim. Well,
initially they were going to kill him off, because everyone
dies in these movies. It's part of the movie franchise,
but it was so cool. Instead of creating a death
sequence for his character, they allowed him literally to have
a sendoff to say goodbye to his fans, as he
(17:41):
was actually dying in real life. And so the final
couple of lines are this, should we read them to
you all? Because it really is beautiful, it's fun. Well,
he said basically this all life is precious. Enjoy the
time you have left. Enjoy every single second because you
never know when. And that's part of the theme of
the movie.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
If you don't know, that's the exact theme of the movie.
And if this wasn't delivered by a man who was
dying in real life, it still would have fit perfectly
with the movie. But because he delivered it, it was
so powerful, was so impactful. And the last thing you
see is him walk through a door and the door
closes and that's the end. And so it was just
a very beautiful Yes, it was a sweet, sweet moment
where horror movie fanatics and he of course is in
(18:24):
our top five legends of horror movies, so to see
him have that moment, I applaud the Bloodlines directors for
allowing him that moment. It was special.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
It was so cool and we didn't know it was coming.
There was no idea, so it was really really special
and we should mention coming in fit. The new horror
film Bring Her Back, brought to us by the same
filmmakers of the unbelievable twenty twenty three successful horror film
Talk to Me. It's a movie about a foster mother
who uses a brother and a sister to reincarnate her
(18:53):
dead daughter. It got ninety percent on Rotten Tomatoes. That
has got to be the next movie we see, babe.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
All right to haven't seen Mission Impossible? We have a
list now. We are just busy these days. Before you
go about your Monday folks, something we'd like for you
to consider it is our quote of the day.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yes, it is never too late to choose again. That
is from Gabby Bernstein, an incredible self help guru. She's
written her tenth book. TJ and I had the most
amazing conversation with her and we are going to share
that with all of you this weekend. We're going to
drop part one and part two with Gabby Bernstein, but
(19:30):
to tease it and to get you all excited about
her incredible words of wisdom, We're going to end each
morning run this week with a quote that she gave
us personally in our interview with her. In our conversation
with her, So once again, for everyone, when you're finding
yourself struggling or in a place you don't want to be,
this is so empowering. Gabby Bernstein says, it's never too
(19:52):
late to choose again. And with that, thank you for
running with us on this Monday, every one.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
I'm Made Me Robots and I'm TJ. Holmes. We will
see you on the ruin tomorrow morning.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
M
