Speaker 1 (00:08):
Black Start Network is a real old revolutionary right now,
work this man. Black media makes sure that our stories
are told. Thank you for being the boys, the black
of bearing rollers all moments that we have. Now we
have to keep this going. The video looks phenomenal between
(00:29):
Black Star Network and black owned media and something like CNN.
You can't be black owned media and be scape. It's
time to be smart. Bring your eyeballs, hold your dig
(00:53):
all right, folks, I'm back from Liberia today. It's Thursday,
February twenty two. Coming up a Roller Martin on the Filter,
streaming live on the Black Start Network. Guilty Guilty, guilty.
A federal jury Minneapolis finds the three X cops connected
to the killing of George Floyd guilty on all counts
of violating his civil rights. Will break down what this
(01:14):
means here from reporter Georgia Fort, who's been following this
case as well. A huge win for the Department of
Justice Civil Rights Division second time this week. Also, Russia
invades Ukraine, killing and injuring hundreds. What does this mean
for the United States. We'll talk with Retalentendant General Russell
Honorey about what's going on there. Uh In Europe. Ryan
(01:36):
Taylor's sister gets kicked out of the court over a
T shirt. Will explain what was on the shirt and
the judge who said bias could affect the jury. Dozens
of black men filled the Minneapolis City Hall to demand
barging on the officer who killed a mirror lock during
the execution of a note knock warrant. Also, folks in
the Rolling Martin and Folks an exclusive. We're talking to
(01:57):
the Florida man facing the type of murder charges the
law enforcement officer after police burst into his home. He
fired back to protect his family and of course their
truders were breaking into his home because one of year
old was injured the falling out of a police cruiser.
Folcus a lot going on in this case. He and
his lawyer will be here to unpack all of it,
(02:18):
plus take them to the governor. He wants professors to
lose tenure if they teach critical race theory. I told
you what Wide Republicans we're all about. We'll break down
what's happening there in my home state. Folks get his
time to bring the funk Roller Martin unfilter on the
Black Star Network. Let's go. He's whatever the mess. He's
(02:40):
on it. Whatever it is. He's got to set the
fine pose. He's right on time and it's going best
believe he's going must to use to politics. But entertained
that just f he's stingo, it's smoove my, he's spooky
(03:13):
spec she's built up ship though he's rolling my dad.
Three from Inneapolis cops who stood around while Derek Chauvin
murdered George Floyd. They are going to prison. That's after
(03:37):
a federal jury found all three today guilty on all
accounts of follying the civil rights of George Floyd to
thou j Alexander King, as well as Thomas Lane. They
were charged with de prodding Floyd of his right to
medical care, with officer Derek Chauvin and Neil on Floyd's
net for nearly nine minutes. Thal and Lane were also
(03:58):
charged with failing to interview to stop Chauvin. Chauvin was
convicted of murder last year in a state court and
pleaded guilty in December in the federal case. Now, folks,
this is a huge, huge victory the Department of Justice,
second time in one week. The amount are very guilty
verdicts there in Georgia Now this as well, this speaks
(04:20):
to when you have someone like Kristen and Clark leading
the Civil Rights Division where they take seriously these cases
and sending more and more of these cops to prison.
Folks with me hearing from reporter Georgia Fort a little
bit later. She of course is covering this and so
we'll hear from her to get her thoughts at perspective
on this as well. We're also reaching out to uh
some legally and leads legal folks to break break this
(04:41):
thing down. I want to go to my panel right now.
Greg Carr, of course, Department of Afro American Studies at
Howard Universally, he joins us glad to have Greg on
the show. Recy Colbert h She of course black women views.
Of course you see her effects for filling in for
me while I was out in Liberia and also wanting
is Larry Walker sister professor University or Central Florida. Let's
(05:03):
get right into a great want to start with you
again second time this week. Huge victories by the Department
of Justice holding these folks accountable. Uh, this is what
people have been demanding justice, sending cops to prison who
do wrong. Yes, sir, certainly, um with we know justice
(05:25):
will be them them not being killed in the first place,
pure justice. But in the wake of the killings, uh,
people have been demanding that the government, that the state
exercise it's for authority. And you're absolutely right. Who knows
to Kristin Clark Department of Justice. And of course now
we'll see what the sentencing is. The judge can give
them anywhere from a year to life. They still face
(05:45):
state sentencing on aiding an embetting murder. But ultimately, and finally,
this really does send a message juries are willing to
convict young Dan, young Cameron in in Kentucky. Listen up,
young boy. If we have enough muscle to get the
(06:06):
right people in office, Uh, then you prosecutors have wide discretion,
and in this case, the Department of Justice exercises, so
they should send a message to those who won't use
the power of the state. In this case, it worked out.
You know a lot of people um Yale holler and
scream re see all my goodness, Um Biden Trump, there's
(06:27):
no difference. Let me say it again, for all you
loud mouthed asses out there, that's all you do is
run your mouths if you want to understand the difference
between a Biden Department of Justice and a Trump Department
of Justice. A Trump Department of Justice pulled back on
consent decrees. They were not being aggressive and going after cops.
(06:47):
They would not want to prosecute cops. This is what
happens when you vote. Absolutely it makes a huge difference
who is running the DLJ. And I know Mary Garland
gets a lot of you know, because he hasn't brought
charges and people aren't aware of an investigation about Donald Trump.
But this is what we really care the most about,
(07:08):
which is the civil rights of black people in this country.
And there's no doubt that obviously the Garland d J,
under the leadership of Kristen Clark is absolutely taking these
cases seriously and they're getting convictions. And that's what matters,
because we are not dissatisfied with charges being brought knowing
that they're going to be acquitted. And it is a
(07:29):
new day. As Dr Carr said, maybe this will put
some fear into some folks and to see that even
if you don't get charged with murder or manslaughter, these
civil rights charges are going to hold you accountable one
way or another. So as much as the Daniel Camerons
of the world are on the side of the cops,
the U. S. Department of Justice is saying, uh, this
(07:51):
is over no more. The thing here later that I
think is important, uh, and that is when we talk
about uh justice, When you talk about these civil rights convictions,
this sends a message to every single cop out there.
If you stand around and you watch one of your
fellow cops committing a committ an active wrongdoing, even you
(08:14):
can go to prison. There's a failure to intervene was
an important charge here. Yeah, it really was rolling and
you know it's important to hold every more responsible like
those gentlemen officers held down George Floyd um and you
mentioned it was almost nearly top ten minutes of him
choking and pleading for his life, but ruling I'm gonna
add something else. And I appluged to you with j
(08:36):
for going too for two this week as you talked
about it's a it's mine. You know, it reminds me
that the George Justice and Policing Act didn't didn't pass right,
So Congress didn't do the right thing. And you know
obviously that you know, in terms of the verdict today
is really important. But I think it's it's mindful of
those civil rights organizations and those who advocate to make
sure that members of the black community are treated humanely.
(08:57):
Is that we have to continue to push members of
that smickly on the Senate side to make sure that
we get some kind of policing reform bill. And obviously
we're heading towards mid terms. Um. But obviously, like I said,
it's it's great that that, you know, we're two for
two this week, but it's be mindful that we didn't
pass the Policing Act and these kind of events will
happen again in the future. Uh. And and absolutely, Greg,
(09:18):
I mean, look, we still want to see the George
fordu Is Act passed by Congress, but while that has
yet to go forward, you still have to have the
prosecution when it comes to these officers. You had Attorney
General Keith Ellison, Okay, convict when the conviction of the
state level. Now you have Christian Clark's Civil Rights Division
on the d J when the conviction on the federal level. Absolutely,
(09:41):
and and and to echo Professor Walker, yes, sir brother.
While there has been no significant legislation passed, and while
open saboteurs like Tim Mission accomplished Scott have ensured that
nothing would generate any support from the white Nathal's party.
Let's uh, to quote Malcolm x Uh in a different context,
use this, make this observation. There was no new law
(10:06):
that the Department of Justice used, so it is absolutely
by the discretion of that unit. And to echo what
you said, Reesee is absolutely accurate. Um, we know that
Tody Barr would never have done this, but there was
no new law on the books. In other words, this
sends a message that that that's exactly I mean. If
(10:27):
this statute can be used in this fashion, then it
is really up to who is going to pull the trigger.
And I'll add one other thing. As we saw last week,
as the judge felt sorry for for whatever reasons. Um,
now the last line of defense for some of these
white enesses is going to be the judge. So again
(10:47):
we're gonna have to really pay strict attention to sentencing
and who the judge is that she's up for re election. Again.
I keep trying to walk people through this here and
these people get mad than me. Are around the Martin.
You're sitting here, you came in from the Democrats. No,
I'm talking about who is likely going to rule fairly,
(11:08):
and we come to seeking justice and for all y'all
who want to send in your asses and don't vote. Okay,
you got the primary coming up in Texas, You've got
other things. This is why voting matters. That judge who
sat there and cry for Kim Potter is up for
re election, meaning she can be thrown out of office.
(11:30):
That's right, that's right. Right, So again, it's just so again, folks. Uh,
just tuning in. The three cops who were involved, who
stood around, who stood around and watch Derek Chauvin kill
George Floyd. Those three cops found guilty of violating the
civil rights of George Floyd. They are going to go
(11:54):
to prison, and so we'll certainly give you what they
were waiting here for Georgia Ford, who has been covering
this case, uh in Minneapolis of the last few weeks.
All right, folks, let's go talk about this international crisis
happening in Europe where Russia has invaded Ukraine. Today, President
Joe Biden uh spoke about what is what is taking
(12:14):
place and made perfectly clear where he stands and where
the West stands when it comes to this active aggression
by Vladimore Pete Putin. We've been transparent with the world.
We've shared declassified evidence about Russia's plans and cyber attacks
and false pretexts so that there could be no confusion
(12:35):
or cover up about what Prutin was doing. Prudent is
the aggressor. Prudent chose this war, and now he and
his country will bear the consequences. Today, I'm authorizing additional
strong sanctions and new limitations on what can be exported
to Russia. This is going to impose severe cost on
(12:58):
the Russian economy, both the media and over time. We
have purposely designed these sanctions to maximize a long term
impact on Russia and to minimize the impact in the
United States and our allies. And I want to be clear,
the United States is not doing this alone. For months,
we've been building a coalition of partners representing well more
(13:20):
than half the global economy, twenty seven members of the
European Union, including France, Germany, Italy, as well as the
United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Australia, New Zealand and many others,
to amplify the joint impact of our response. I just
spoke with the G seven leaders this morning, and we're
in full and total agreement. We will limit Russia's ability
(13:44):
to do business in dollars, euros, pounds, and yen to
be part of the global economy. Will limit their ability
to do that. We're gonna stunt the ability of to
finance and grow Russia. The Russian military, We're gonna impoll
who's major, and we're gonna impair their ability to compete
in high tech twenties first century economy. We've already seen
(14:07):
the impact of our actions on Russia's currency, in the ruble,
which early today hit its weakest level ever ever in history.
The Russia stock market plunge today, Russian government barr and
rates spiked by over fift today's actions, we've now sanctioned
(14:27):
Russian banks that together hold around one trillion dollars in assets.
We've cut off Russia's largest bank, a bank that holds
more than one third of Russia's banking assets by itself,
cut it off from the US financial system, and today
we're also blocking four more major banks. For President Barack
(14:48):
Obama issue this statement. Here is a five paragraph statement.
I'm a ren paragraph for there maybe some economic consequences
to such sanctions, giving it Russia's a significant role in
world energy markets. But that's a price we should be
willing to pay to take a stand on the side
of freedom. For over the long term, we all face
a choice between a world in which might makes right
(15:08):
and autocrats are free to impose their will through force,
or world in which free people everywhere of the pology
determine their own future. Retired General look Retired ten General
Russell Honore joins us right now. Glad to have you here. Uh,
it's very I gotta go here. I'm listening to all
these conservatives. I'm listening to people on the Fox News
(15:29):
America's week. Oh Biden is horrible. Uh. They're praising Putin, okay,
as if he's this this this great. I mean Donald
Trump talks about, oh, how it's smart to do what
he did, and then they're like, oh Biden this week.
I'm sorry. Are these folks saying what sending American troops
that ain't gonna happen? I don't think so. Roll Uh,
(15:52):
this is what happened when you're losing democracy. Russia really
never had a democracy. They bought into these dick data leaders. Uh,
they gave a shamp to the word democracy. They don't
have a proper voting And this is what happened when
an authoritarian person like Poutin with a big army that's
(16:13):
well equipped and with nuclear weapons. This is what happened
if we turned the world over to autocrats. Just think
about if we end up and we lose our democracy
here in America and we get a president that's a
dictator that can overrule all of the laws in the
(16:34):
country and decide he wanted to go take Canada, I
will take Mexico. This is why we have to work
hard and vote as you say, and save out democracy.
You know, for eighty years we've kept peaceing in Europe.
At one time we had a half a million men
and women in Europe, and after the Cold War we
(16:54):
drew that down, and under Donald Trump, we drew it
down even more. We have the lawyer's number of soldiers
and sailor's amond and marines we have in Europe in
eighty years. And here's what's happened. He took an opportunity.
He is a thug with nukes, is the bottom line
of what Putin is. He is a thug with nukes
(17:16):
and now he's invaded this country that don't have the
equipment he has because you were just defending their borders,
and here he has invaded them and now threatens to
overturn their government, which he will do at the page
he's going now even with and the surgency following. Um.
(17:41):
So what should the American response be? Because again, when
I listened to all these Republicans, I keep hearing them uh.
And I was just challenging Armstrong Williams who was complaining.
I said, Okay, what's your plan. John James, who was
running for Congress in Michigan, keeps saying, oh, uh, we
should be doing more, okay, Like, well, one thing, we
(18:03):
need to reset NATO. We need to declare Russia the
enemy and NATO for years we have treated in Russia
with clear with kid gloves and traded with him. We
need to isolate Russia. The President is on way to
do that with some of the measures, he said, but
(18:23):
we need to globe to isolate Russia from any technology.
We can go ahead far sending their students back home,
and he's spelling the diplomats. We have to make this
painful and shameful for what Russia has done. The next
thing we can do is build our army back in Europe.
We took the Court headquarters out, that's the three star headquarters.
(18:46):
We reduced the four star headquarters to a three star
headquarters because everybody thought we had peace and we didn't
want to pay for the defense of Europe. But when
Europe goes to war, the world go to war. World
War one, it open World War to where did it happen?
And now we're on the eve of World War three.
We need to get our defenses back in Europe. So um,
(19:11):
the image of the sanctions, Uh, do you believe that
those sanctions are going to have an impact? By all economists, yes,
I don't think it'd be. It's time to save Ukraine
and his integrity the way it is now rolling, but
it's gonna take time. It will have an impact, I
believe the president and his experts, But for the purpose
(19:34):
of this invasion, I don't think it's gonna have much
impact at all in the next that overtop the government
is what I believe. And for the people again, I'm
already seeing these people. Oh uh, this is gonna be
an impact on our gas prices? Well, damn excuse me.
If what happens in another part of the world somehow
(19:58):
disrupts what happens here. But my goodness, I don't care what.
Look if China does something, Russia does something, We're not
living in a global economy. Rolland a message to the
American people, to all ot of people, a lot of
them are suffering from disasters and never coming out of poverty.
(20:18):
We've got to suck it up. In World War Two,
we stopped producing cars for three years and gas was ratchet.
It's not gonna get that bad with this war where
we are, but we're all going to have to sacrifice.
It's gonna cost us more for stuff that we use
every day. What the Commerce Department and the government need
(20:38):
to do is controlled the greed that's happening right now
with the American industry and the CEOs who are patting
themselves on the back using this uh aftermath of the
pandemic and now this war to raise prices for no
other reason than to raise profit. We're all gonna suffer.
(20:59):
Look what happened on All Street, and it's gonna take
more plunges. Everybody's gonna pay for this war. We're gonna
suffer during the war with a pandemic on top of it,
and we need to suck it up in fine ways
we individually, in our churches, in our communities that can't
send the whole prayers and money to the people in
Ukraine because if we lose this democracy, that democracy ours
(21:23):
could be next rolling. All right, then we're tired. General
Russell Honory will appreciate it. Thanks for joining us. Good day.
So uh got my panel here at Reesey. I'm telling you,
I'm sitting here and you listen to these crazy uh
right wing nuts and oh for them. Oh Putin is
(21:44):
the man. He is there. He is just amazing. Putin
is also a white supremacist, yes, And I need black
folks to also understand that because one of the ways
that we have been targeted with disinformation is that Putin
is somehow an ally to the black community, which is absurd.
But for years, since even the two thousand and sixteen election,
(22:08):
Russia has been targeting black social media, specifically driving a
wedge with the racial divide that we already have in
this country, exploiting that and really honing in their techniques
on how to really infiltrate the way that we communicate
with each other. Through algorithms, they use troll farms, they
use an authentic accounts which are then amplified by actual
(22:29):
black people and picked up on because they know how
to communicate in a way that is impactful, that's catchy
with memes, are with you know, catch phrases or whatever
situation may be. And so we have to understand that
I'm not saying that all black people pet fallen for
but I do want to be very clear that there
are people who have fallen for it and are now
(22:50):
perpetuating that. Because I saw a comment that well Putin
said r I p to George Floyd and he called
out a racism in America. Now, ship of course America's racist.
Russia knows that, and they've been exploiting that, especially to
the detriment of black people when you look at what
they've done with disinformation, with COVID nineteen and a number
of things. So Russia is not our friend, and I
(23:14):
understand that people feel like this ain't none of my business.
And another thing that they put out there was this
whole that Russia is de natifying Ukraine. So that nazi
neo nazi thing is another bird's word that I've seen
being picked up because the Ukraini Ukrainian president, he's Jewish
who lost family members of the Holocaust, but he's a
Nazi exactly. But that's the kind of thing that's catchy,
(23:38):
that's the kind of thing that catches on. And so
when not all but you see some black folks, they
see neo Nazis. Oh, why are we defend the neo Nazis?
Why are we going No, it's propaganda, it's disinformation. So
Polin is not our ally. I understand that we have
a lot of things going on. I mean, I don't
know if we're gonna talk about it tonight, but child
poverty has increased exponentially. Now that the child child Credit
(24:00):
expired at the end of December, we're back where we
started from twenty twenty, which hold poverty. We're still in
the pandemic. There are a number of things that we
have not addressed in this country. However, we do have
a stake in the world community because if World War
three pops off, which could happen if Russia is involved
and and they had any one of the neighboring countries
(24:21):
to Ukraine, Ukraine is surrounded by NATO countries. If Article
five is invoked, then we all in this ship. So
so when when when a General Honore says sucked it
up or what General Honore is saying that we should
be UM aware of this and we should be invested
in it. It's not just out of pure altruism for Ukraine,
you know, given that there are tons of conflicts throughout
(24:42):
the country, throughout the world, including in Africa and Middle East, etcetera.
But this has an implication because of the geo political
landscape that we're talking about in the proximity to natal countries,
which would involve the United States getting involved with military action.
So there's a lot of skin in the game that
we have. We're fortunate enough to only have to deal
(25:02):
with economic consequences and not necessarily uh geographical consequence. We're
not likely to see a land invasion, but Russia does
have nuclear weapons, so we have to back off a
little bit some of this bluster and some of this
puffing up up the chest. And now is not the
time to get in a um about to say this,
but let me say, pissing consciences, I'll say that that's
(25:22):
more PC than what I was thinking originally. But now
as other times to get into a piston contest when
we are talking about two nuclear or multiple nuclear arm powers.
Now to say that we back down and I said,
we punk out, but we have to really be measured
in how we do about this, and we have to
be effective and trying to exhaust non military options. Larry,
it is again hilarious to watch how the party that
(25:48):
that just held up Ronald Reagan as the greatest thing
in the world, they are literally rooting for Russia against
the United States. Yeah, so, Roland, you know, you know me,
I'm gonna Congress, former congressional staffer and worked with you know,
members on both sides of the aisle, and I had
to tell you that every time I turn on the
(26:09):
TV on the social media, UM shocked at their policy makers.
Obviously we can talk of a conversation about some of
the propaganda we see on cable news, but I am
shocked to seeing policy makers, like I said, typically from
party that you know, talked about Ronald Reagan and you
know and taking down, you know, the wall, phoning down,
et cetera, that are you know, actively used utilizing you know,
Russian propaganda and really selling it to the American public.
(26:31):
And it's obviously dangerous. One of the things I want
to add in terms of you know, where we are
in terms of what Russia or invading Ukraine is it's
important to keep in mind, and recently talked about this
is that, you know, in terms of those NATO countries, right,
So you know, I putin this is this kind of
being nostalgia as it relates to kind of talking about
the former USSR and countries like Ukraine and other European countries.
But those days are long gone, right, and so his
(26:53):
responses and what has happened with his response, Countries like
Poland just releasing within the last couple of weeks have
dramatically increased their defense. But right, And so in general,
I re talked about, you know, during the you know,
Trump administration and pulling back to US troops under you know,
which we're gonna see probably the next few weeks and months,
is countries like pulling other native you know, native NATO
countries not only United States selling them more armaments, but
(27:16):
also in terms of sending more US troops. So what
we essentially have now roling is Cold War two point up, um, Greg.
I was looking at some comments and I was seeing
people that saying I mean this is of no concern
to us. Actually it is. It has economic has an
economic impact on this country. Um. I saw others who
(27:39):
were saying, oh, well, this is why we should have
never fought the Keystone pipeline. I'm going okay, that wasn't
an American pipeline. Uh. And because of the oil that
we get from Russia, how we learned to wean ourselves
off of oil. So then you're not dependent upon what
happens in another country to impact energy in the United States. Sure,
(28:01):
but I'll tell you what if the bombing today in
north central Ukraine had pierced that concrete around that your
normal waist dump, we wouldn't be having this conversation about
whether or not uh, this impacts us. We'd be somewhere
trying to say our last prayers. Um. So that haven't
been said on a very direct point. Um. John mc
clark used to always saying, some stories, there are no
(28:22):
good guys. Some listening to Joe Biden. Joe Biden in
the United States of America, Europe was ages forgotten wild West.
They invaded an entire hemisphere and then declared the unilateral
declaration of war on an entire continent, the one we
came from. Talk about invasion, but that built the wealth
that created Europe, and the financial centers moved from this
(28:44):
been in Seville, eventually the Paris, then London, and then
in the twentieth century they moved to New York after
World Wars one and two because Germany Berlin wanted in
on the action. Now, whoever, and I mentioned yet, well,
I haven't mentioned Moscow. Why Because Russia didn't have though
that that colonial empire. They built their empire in the neighborhood.
And so what we end up seeing now, what we're
(29:06):
witnessing now is the end of really, in some ways
five centuries of Western empire building. They can't russell Honorary.
Scared the hell out of me. First of all, there
is no weak governments act in the best in their
perceived best interests. Mody was out today saying he got
three thousand Indian students trying to get an embassy in
(29:27):
Kiel to look for sanctuary. You've got all this going on,
But here's where it gets very interesting. After World War Two,
the anti colonial movements came into full fruition, and as
people broke free, what you see is the Soviet Union
trying to assert itself as the leader of this anti
Western bloc movement natol versus the war staw Pack. Well
(29:48):
that fell apart. But there's a country I haven't mentioned yet,
and that country just finished the Olympics. In fact, Vladimir
Putin net with President Chi and China in Beijing ap
weeks ago. And you know what, you can't stop the Russians.
They ain't ask crimea in honore. Please, brother, don't put
us into this bullshit. I'm gonna tell you what's about
(30:10):
to happen next. Keep your eye on Taiwan. They are
rewriting the map for the next century. China is sitting.
In fact, Joe Biden had a shot across the battle
today when he said anybody associated them will be a
harm by the stain. Guess what you ain't even got that.
You ain't got that muscle no more, Joe. What we
have to understand is we need to become cognizant of
(30:31):
world politics. It all affects us. And I want to
I want to say one other thing. When you saw
the Kenyan ambassador after U N Security Council the other day,
say we Africans know very well the politics of invasion
and what it means after colonialism to keep those colonial
boundaries and rather than everybody invade because they're evil. On
(30:51):
either side of the line of Nigeria. There are two
seats on either side of Rwanda and Burundi. Some of
them are Eastern Congo. What the Kenya ambassador said is
we do not endorse the Asian of Ukraine chasing some
separatist movement because we could have done the same thing
in Africa and we be at war forever. Or I
should have said one other thing. Those white nastas and
the White Nationals Party, of course they embrace Putin. Putin
(31:13):
is a racist. Putin is looking at Ukraine the same
way to white nastals. Look at us, look at the
four of us. There's no such thing as an American. Well, y'all,
please stop believing in fairy tales. These people have sworn
an oath. It's either white supremacy or ruined. And that's
Russia and as Florida and as Texas, and that's the
(31:34):
whole white Nationalist party. That's it, folks. We will continue
UH to monitor what takes place UH as Ukraine fights
the Russians, UH and see what the fall of the
impact is going to be on the rest of the world,
including the United States. A right, folks, gotta go to
break we come back more en rolla Martin unfiltered right
(31:56):
here on the Black Start Network. We all show are
gonna open the phone lies, get your thoughts. It's about
the trial of the three off officers killed excuse me,
found guilty for standing around doing nothing felling to intervene
as George Floyd was killed by one of their own.
Pull the number up, please, uh so we can show
it for folks to be able to call in. Remember
(32:17):
if you remember, by bringing the Funk Fan Club, you
get to call in as opposed to other folks who
have not supported us as one of the perks. Okay,
we have the number, all right, m M, Why are
(32:43):
we taking so long? No, we're gonna wait for the
number to zero to eight nine. Call two zero two
eight nine zero polographic up play. Thank you two zero
two eight nine zero one zero nine nine two zero two.
(33:07):
If y'all can get rid of that thing on the side, please,
it'll be great so we can see it. Thank you, So, folks,
if you remember, we're bringing the Funk Fan Club called
two zero two eight nine zero zero two zero to
eight nine zero. Y'all can share your thoughts about again
the three officers uh X off cops found guilty uh
(33:28):
in the death of George Floyd. You can also talk
about Russia, Ukraine, anything it's on your mind. Please give
us a call. I'll be back and rolling Mark. I'm
filtered in a moment. M h m hm hm. Don't
(34:41):
you think it's time to get Wealthy? I'm jeber Owen's
America's Wealth Coach, and my new show on the Black
Star Network focuses on the things your financial advisor or
bank isn't telling you to watch. Get Wealthy on the
Black Star Network. Yeah mmmmmm. I'm Dr Greg Carr inviting
(35:18):
you to take your seat at the Black Teaple even.
We'll be discussing the past, present in future of Black
history money, but we need to understand what the principle
asked is of African people to understand themselves. Take your
seat and join the conversation. Only on the Black Star Network.
(35:40):
So what's up? This is your boy Earthquakes. Hi, I'm
Chailey Rose, and you're watching Roland Martin unfiltered. Alright, folks,
the American Taliban, they are at it again. I'm talking
about Republicans in Texas. Texas Utenant Governor Dan Patrick is
not at all happy over the whole issue of critical
(36:04):
race theory. This fool now wants to challenge and get
rid of tenure in the state. This is him talking
to the white supremacist. Took a call so about a
week ago the faculty council at the University of Texas UH.
They said that they're going to teach critical race theory,
and then they followed up with something that really got
(36:27):
my attention. That got my attention, But then they said,
the faculty Council takes the position and this resolution that
the council authority shall never ever have any intrusion from
anyone outside, including the legislature or the Board of Regions.
In other words, you can't tell us anything about how
(36:48):
we perform our job, what we teach the students, or
what we say. And I thought, just who are these
people to think that somehow academic freedom, which we support,
gives them the ability to be unaccountable to anyone, including
the taxpayers, including their Board of Regions. They want to
be able to say anything to anyone. And Tucker, we've
talked about critical race theory a lot, but people still
(37:11):
sometimes don't understand the difference. And we want race to
be talked about as Republicans. Myself as a lieutenant governor,
I want slavery to be examined. I want racism American
to be examined through the years, whether it's in the
business sector, the private sector, in sports. But critical race
theory doesn't teach that. It teaches that because you're white,
(37:31):
you're a racist, and because you're a person of color,
you're a victim. And they want to teach through critical
race theory that we are a nation that's racist and
everything is based on racism. And that's what critical race
theory is, and that's what we cannot allow our professors
to teach the young men and women to come to university.
We banned it in Texas in k through twelve this year. Okay.
(37:51):
Now in the same state, the former CEO of the
Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Bill Magnus, testify that he
was instructed by a governor Abbot to do whatever it
took to prevent any more blackouts during winter Storm Yeah.
He also say that the government made it clear to
keep prices at a maximum of nine thousand dollars per
(38:13):
megat hour, leading to billions of dollars in profits for
power generators and look utilities swamped and millions of dollars
of debt. Mm hmm. In the same stake, Abbott mod
Taliban has said, oh, um, if you're a parent with
a transgientor towel, you should be investigated by chopping at
(38:37):
the services. Um later want to start with you, Um,
when I'm using American Taliban for your reason, and when
you look at not just what's happening in Texas, you
look at this gay bill in Florida at the house
(38:58):
just passed. Um, Well, they're targeting, but literally the bill
says that students who are gay can be outed by
the schools. Um. The Republicans are operating and living in
this culture war. They're saying that Democrats they're the ones
(39:19):
who are losing the culture war. And what you're dealing
with here are frankly folks who are no different than
the Taliban in Afghanistan. Yeah, you know what, Roland, you
know a lot of this politic political theater, but it's dangerous, right.
So you talked about some of these whose crt they
(39:39):
they don't say, gay Bill in Florida and a lot
of it. You know, when you watch the interview, you know,
Lieutenant Governor he said that, you know, wouldn't get rid
of c RT. But at the same time he talked
about we don't talk about racism. It doesn't make any
sense to me. Right, it's a contradiction because you can
utilize c RT as as as a as a lens
to examine you want to talk about the Transtlantic slave
trade with Jim Crow or his grandfather, clauses of black codes, etcetera.
(40:02):
You can use ce r T as as a mechanism
to examine all those issues. Right. And also this idea
of academic freedom, he told it doesn't make any sense.
If you believe in academic freedom, then people who teach
about use critic race theory of where any other framework
should have the opportunity to talk to students about some
of these issues. And listen as we want to use
the phrase cultural war. And you know, as people of
(40:23):
African descent, country has been four plus years in terms
of dealing with the challenge economic, political, social challenges in
this country, and it makes no sense to say, and
once again that we want to talk about these issues,
but we don't want to give professors or other academics
even that we talk about like professional development for corporation, etcetera.
We don't want to give them the tools they need
to utilize have these important conversations. And once again we
(40:45):
can keep spinning like a top because every few years,
um over the last several decades, we're back on these
issues relating to the idea of a rasure. Don't want
to talk about members of the lgbt q Q community,
and we don't want to talk about the challenges people
of African descent have encounter there in this country. And
we had to have open dialogue because once again, if
we don't we talked about the same issues impacting and
(41:06):
negative impact in black community, we talked about policing, or
we talk about banking and discrimination, or we talk about
black professors, because really we're talking about primariities black professors
at post secondary institutions having the academic freedom to talk
about a variety of issues. So now we need to
confront these people and tell them that if you believe
in democracy and equity, then you cannot say that you
(41:27):
can't have a conversation about critical race theory really that
we know race is the real issue here, that you
can't have a conversation, conversation about CRT and other use
other devices. The challenge course court students and unpacked this
country's history. See greg we people need to understand and
I'm using again American Taliban for a reason. Florida had
a couple of bills. One of them was the Stop
(41:50):
Woke Act UH, which says that if there's any discussion
or any corporate training that makes people uncomfortable about race,
it has to stop. And then the other bill deals
with the UM it was it was called the Don't
Say Gay Bill. I'm outlining this because what you're seeing
(42:12):
it's only one party that's doing it. It's in Florida,
it's in Mississippi, it's in Alabama, it's in Texas, it's
in Arkansas. You're seeing it, UH. In Georgia, you're seeing
it in Tennessee. UM, this is the Confederacy in These
(42:34):
are people who are trying to who are using the
power of elected office to constitute or to keep in
place a nation that they want to live in. UH.
These are people who are being driven by crazed and
deranged white conservative evangelicals who would not know Jesus if
(42:56):
Jesus walked into the room. What they're doing. It's not
biblical what they're doing. It's not about uh really, it's
not about service to the country. It is about maintaining
their white, largely male order. Yes, sir, yes sir, it's
(43:20):
uh and it's right. American Taliban is appropriate because they
want a theocracy. And we know that if Jesus Christ,
the historical Jesus, were alive day in the United States,
he'd be perhaps a victim of a no not warrant
in whatever shelter he was staying in, since uh he
didn't have any visible means of support me, probably be killed. Um. Now,
when we think about this uh in terms of the
(43:43):
l B G, t Q issue or not issue in
this sense, because they they're so stupid, they don't make
good criminals. What I've been advising people to do in
places like Texas and Virginia once they get their hot
line up. Flooded said, my grand baby came home today
and said that y'all love Harriet Tubman out of the curriculum,
and she was traumatized. In no words, They're so stupid,
they don't even write laws and make any sense. But
(44:03):
remember when Neil Gorcich came out and said in nineteen
and to twenty I guess it was twenty one where
he interpreted the statute to say that gay that that
that gender included transgender and those Uh, and I think
it's the Georgia case. Mary serves me correctly. Um. But
the point of trying to make is that's before Amy
Comy Barrett got on the bench. The handmaid. They want
(44:26):
a theocracy, now, you know. I don't know what it
is about Texas electing or sending into office these cartoon
character looking people, whether it be shovelmouth Abbott or that
knockoff generic muppet Lieutenant Governor Patrick. But let's be clear.
Let's be clear. They've been going after tenure for years.
Everybody in higher education knows that now, you know, because
(44:49):
they don't like the idea of people learning anything. This
kind of white nationalism relies on ignorance. It feeds on ignorance.
And the irony, of course is when the when the
Texas Austin Faculty Senate voted for five two for their
for their resolution. One of those people who voted, or
who represents that is Kevin Copley, a brother who is
(45:10):
the chair of ed Psychic University of Texas Austin, who's
a strong supporter and teaches an element of critical race theory.
And our frat brother who was now the University of Kentucky,
Greg Vincent, who I went to law school with. Greg
Vincent taught a critical race theory class at the law
school a few years ago. Why am I bringing that up?
Texas will if they get their way, not only damage
(45:32):
their higher ad system. Any self respecting academic won't want
to work in the state of Texas, which is part
of their plan. These folks want to have a theocracy,
and I think American Taliban is entirely appropriate. They want
to have it their way or not have a country,
and they might get their wish not to have it
their way, wish not have a country, wish um recy
(45:58):
I the import and when you look at all of
these different uh stories, because again, those who are in
power are the ones who are wielding it. And so
when I hear people with their nonsense and they say, oh,
here y'all go, oh, you sitting here pushing democrats on us, Okay,
(46:26):
this is real simple. Who do you want to be
in power. Who do you want passing laws? Who do
you want using their efforts to undermine the courts? Who
do you want to be in control? We've seen this
week three huge political jerymandering decisions in Pennsylvania, in Ohio,
(46:51):
in North Carolina, Chris Christie lead the Republican efforts on
Jerrymandering's pissed, Oh, these partners of the courts. I'm sorry
y'all pass new new congressional districts. That was partisan, But
now you want to call the courts partisan because they
won't allow y'all to do what y'all we're gonna do.
(47:12):
And here's a deal. In Ohio that's a four to
three Republican majority on that court. North Carolina four to
three Democratic majority. It's Republican majority of Pennsylvania. But see,
they don't want nobody to know all of that sort
of stuff. What people need to understand is, again, these
white conservative evangelicals do not care about Jesus. They don't
(47:36):
care about the poor, they don't care about black people.
They care about power. Right, And let me tell you something.
The Republicans are giving big who are gonna check me
boo energy because what they're banking on is that they're able,
and they're being successful in some places like Texas and Mississippi.
Jerrymagerin get to Hell, to the point to where black
(47:59):
people's votes are diluted, are completely disregarded. And what they're
doing is deputizing one of the key themes that I'm noticing.
If you look at the abortion restrictions in Texas, if
you look at the hotlines that they're setting up, the
gay hot don't say gay hotlines, the CRT hotlines, the
(48:20):
mandatory force reporting of trans transitioning trans kids, all of
these measures are about deputizing their white supremacist followers and
weaponizing these laws in a way to exert their will.
As you said, and as Dr Carr said, a theocracy,
And this is what it's all about. It's about suppressing
(48:43):
difference differences. But as Dr Walker and Dr Carr pointed out,
it's about undermining black faculty because that's who they expect
to be most impacted by this. They expect and I
believe it. I forget whether it was you or um
Dr carl I said, Dr Carr, I want you want
to go to Taist and teach there who wants to
be bothered with Texas got damn abortion laws, that's funked up,
(49:04):
that got CRT laws, a mess. You could go on
down the list of everything mess. The power grade is
messed up, like Texas is a hot ass mess right now.
Ain't your vote don't count. But what they're banking on
across the country is that Democrats are going to soak
their way through not getting everything on their checklist and
be demoralized. And when they're not demoralized, actually suppressed in
(49:29):
terms of their vote, the structural suppression of their vote,
and they're going to continue to exert their white minority
power over the entire country. So it's on us and
how we respond. I'm not terribly optimistic in Texas. There's
primaries going on right now for governor and a number
of things. But I'm not terribly optimistic because what I
(49:50):
see is the energy about and I And that's fine
if it's is your opinion, but cancels through it a
debt are The energy is about this bill that didn't
pass in that bit little bit of build in past.
Me and other Republicans are leaving no stone unturned in
terms of remaking the way of American life in their States.
So we have to respond with full force and at
(50:12):
a minimum, the least you can do is both their
asses out. Well, I've said the people continuously. Uh. If
there is any Republican who is supportive of Donald Trump
and MAGA, they gotta go. I don't care who they
are and what they do, they got to go. Alright, folks,
(50:32):
when we come back, we're gonna tell you this, give
you this exclusiveness. The story out of Florida is unbelievable.
Father is trying to protect his family. Now he's trying
with tempted murder for protecting his family. Really, wait until
(50:54):
we unpack this story, folks. Uh. And if you want
to understand why black owned media matters, this story next
explains it to you. I've said this and I'm not
even gonna waste my time getting into the petty, childish
stuff with some of these uh black gossip blogs out here.
The folks, one of the reasons why you need to

We're all impacted by the culture, whether we know it
or not. From politics and music and entertainment. It's a
huge part of our lives that we're going to talk
(54:28):
about it every day right here on the Culture with me.
For Roji Mohammed, only on the Black Star Network. You
read about their history, Yeah, you talk about you see
it the out side, you know of the United States
(54:49):
because it's actually coming off a seed with the story
of things we started um and connecting the dots. It's
just a wow factor for anybody. Now you're going to
be dark inside. You might not see too much, but
(55:12):
you're gonna feel everything you just imagine. See prisons in
the yard, in the Nine States War. It just doesn't
(55:38):
make sense that the richest continent to the world should
be inhabited by the poorest people in the road. Part
of that is by design. Um self hatred has been
a very tragic part of our whole existence. And I'm
not blaming anybody for it. But if you look at
(55:58):
most characterista shows of being of Africa descent in the world,
it's with these kind of tax always say you're gonna
do a lot of shopping. They go, oh, I don't
think so, and then they come so they brought limited reserves,
and then they spent all the time running to the
A t M because they see all these clothes. They
(56:19):
want fabric, they want overwhelming. I've been here for eight
years and I'm still taking pictures out of my car
because it's just it's a feast for the eyes on
any given day. A kind of opportunities you had in Africa,
you don't have those in America. The kind of money
that you can make in Africa, very few of you
would have that opportunity to do that in America. Cordy,
(56:42):
who was working for the Congress in the United States.
She has started a waste management company and she's the
number one here in Ghana. Now she looked there. It
is used to be used to be genius is now
a huge role in Ghana alone. We have a two
million unit deficits in housing to new year to Seven
(57:18):
of the ten fastest growing economies right now are African nations.
Why in the world would we not be trying to
figure out how to connect because celebrities are Chinese, aren't
everybody else is doing it. We will be crazy to
do it and it's people who look like us. You'll
be crazy doing crazy, will be crazy to do it,
(59:11):
all right, folks. So we had some issues there, but
we're now good. So that our our ten part Ghana
documseries on the Year of Return is going to uh
we air first starting next Friday. Next Friday. Our next
edition of Rolling with Rolling is gonna be on Wednesday.
But of course the first part you don't want to
miss it, uh folks. We have some amazing stories. You
(59:34):
saw that promo right there. I'm really looking forward to
you getting a chance to see what we um covered there.
We went to Ghana and of course over the next
several weeks you also see more of the stories that
we did uh there in Liberia, including next week we'll
be airing my interview with President George Weel. We sat
down for a one on one interview, and so really
look forward to showing you that as well, plus us
(59:56):
above the interviews that we did there in Liberia and
shout out to people i've here. Uh, this is great.
You see this. This is one of the outfite they
gave me. So I know, I know you want this
black and gold Greg, I know, I know I saw
you people, but rolling you know the other thing too,
r Every African country you go to has a little
different style. That style right there, that's the Liberian style
(01:00:18):
and it is cold blood. And I know you get
the pants with it too, I know you. No, no, no,
I didn't. I didn't get the pens. But they did
give me a whole bunch of fabrics. I could have
some pants made. Don't worry about don't worry about it.
That's gonna happen. That's gonna happen. So uh and so
force I really look forward to showing y'all this here again.
We don't only keep in mind the reason we call
This Black Start Network was named after the cruise line.
(01:00:39):
To Marcus Garvey was that was the inspiration because he
wanted to connect African Americans in the country with the
African diaspora. And that's really how we're utilizing the Black
Start Network apt being able to showcase stories that other
people are not covering. I told y'all, I don't waste
time with gossiping and all that sort of stuff. I
leave it to other people. Uh. We do real journalism year,
(01:01:00):
telling real stories such as the next story here, which
is which is a Black Start Network exclusive, folks. Uh
so checking this. This is the amazing story. It's a
crazy story but also speaks to what we face as
African Americans. Okay, for the first time, a Florida father
is facing charges of attempted murderer of a law enforcement
officer and he's speaking out, folks. On February three, Corey
(01:01:23):
Marino Jr. Was at home with his two children when
the cops entered his home. Startled, he fired his gun,
assuming it was intruders. Well, Corey was in custody. The
kids were placed in the back seat for police vehicle,
(01:01:43):
waiting for their mother. Police say the one year old
was leaning against the car door. When an officer opened it,
the child fell out of the car, sustaining several facial injuries.
We're joined right now on the show by Corey Marinett
Junior and as lawyer James Bryant the join us from Florida.
(01:02:07):
Also joining us is Moya Dixon as well as attorney
Rodney Diggs and so glad to have all of you
on the show. So So, Corey, I I wanted I
need to start with you because I'm so what happened
described for us? What took place when you're at home
and all of a sudden cops burst in. Walk us
(01:02:31):
through what happened, Corey, Y, Yeah, So walk us through
what happened. On February third, Mills is approximately four five.
I heard a big boom at my door. I got
(01:02:53):
up real quick. My kids was in the bed for
me with me. It was in the bed. I got up.
I grabbed my fire on m it's registered in my name,
I had my gun license. I grabbed my fireroom and
I was hitting down the hallway. By the time I
got midway in the hallway, I heard another big boom
and my doors swung open. It was pitched dark in
(01:03:15):
the living room and at outside. I don't have no
porch light, so it was dark outside as well. So
when the doors swung open, I fired a warning shot
at the door. Not seeing anyone out there, I just
fired a shot after second. After that, I heard them
(01:03:35):
announced theirselfs saying that there was the police. Then lower
my Firearom, I put it on the ground. I came
outside with my hands up. I came all the way
out the door and I got on the ground and
that's when they put me in handcuffs. Okay, So you
said it was four am, yes, sir, um, And why
(01:04:00):
did they bust into your home? They had a search
warrant for electronics and clothing. Okay, I'm sorry. So it's
four or four or five in the morning and they
have a search one for electronics and clothing that they
what alleged was stolen that led to shooting that happened. Okay,
(01:04:31):
So James, I want to pull you in here. Yeah, Um,
did the cops alleged that Corey was involved in the shooting. No,
we have no idea what the warrant was for. What
we do know is that Mr Marino was not subject
to and the rest warrant. Um, where we have we
don't really have much knowledge specifically as it relates to
(01:04:54):
why they were there to retrieve items. Um. Mr Marino
was renting the home, so he does not own that home,
and so that's why it came as much of a
surprise to him with someone bursting into his actual home
at four am. UM, and specifically, you know, not there
to arrest anybody, but to gather um, you know, any
sort of electronics or other other other items. Okay, I'm
(01:05:17):
I'm forgive me for being slightly confused. So they weren't
executing and arrest warrant for murder, No, they were not.
They weren't executing a warrant for domestic violence aggravated assault. Um,
(01:05:44):
they weren't. So the warrant was to retrieve some stolen
electronics and clothing. We don't know if it was stolen electronics.
It was just certain items that they were looking for
and the pencil goal of police following um. You know,
this entry into the home has been clear that they
(01:06:05):
were not there to arrest Mr Marino under any circumstance. Okay,
hold on, So Corey, how many cops are you talking about? Um, Candy,
It was so many I can't even name. I mean
you off the top, five, six, ten, hold on, hold on.
(01:06:28):
Cops on the scene at the home at in the
morning to retrieve some electronics and clothes. Yes, sir, it
was the swat team and PPD. Um, okay, we've got
(01:06:50):
three attorneys there, Ratley Digs, Reginald Reeves and James Bryant.
Have y'all ever heard of cops busting through somebody's house
I'm assuming with a no knock warrant at four forty
five in the morning, four of electronics and clothes. I
(01:07:13):
have not. And that's the problem. Um. In this instance.
It is just such an odd time to come at
that time in the morning to retrieve items. I could see,
if you know, my client was you know, Pablo Escobar,
and they were looking to get him to arrest him
for some sort of murder. But it was absolutely mind
(01:07:34):
boggling what happened. And it wasn't a no knock warrant.
It was a warrant in which they came, They noted
for maybe ten seconds, and then they burst in. Um.
This was against their policy. Pensacola p D has a
very clear policy. You cannot enter it into a person's
house until you're not gonna announced after fifteen seconds, and
(01:07:54):
in this second, in this instance they did ten seconds.
And it was at four forty five in the morning.
So with that knows me is they had no interest
in alerting Mr Marinell that they were intending to break
into his home five clothes and electronics. Correct, I'm still trying.
I'm still trying to understand here. And and if anybody
is five of y'all, maybe y'all can it really explain
(01:08:18):
this to me? So that was a robbery. At any point,
have they alleged that Corey was involved in this alleged
robbery to the best of our knowledge, No, And furthermore,
Mr Marinell can tell you this is a man who
has no criminal history. He worked for Navy Federal Credit
(01:08:41):
Reunion in the fraud department, so that requires a very
strict background check for him. Um, he had his two
children in the home and they were aware of that,
and they still decided to do what they did that
that that early morning. Okay, it's has anybody explained how
they arrived at his house? No, there's a there's an
(01:09:06):
investigation going on in general as it relates to how
this entire situation unfolded, as you know, m during this
entire ordeal, um Mr Marinaud's young child, Kylan was injured
by the police while they were while he was in
their custody. And so currently right now, it's my understanding
that Pensacola p p D is involved in some sort
(01:09:27):
of internal investigation. Okay, we're in. It closed and electronics
removed from the house. Only electronics. Um, No clothes were removed,
and Mr Marino is a registered firearm owner, so they
took they took a few bullets and they and they
took his firearm that he had used, um Corey. First
(01:09:49):
of all, Moya, first of all, it's first of all,
we're thankful that we can actually talk to you, Cord,
because this is very similar to what happened to a
mere lock in Minneapolis. And he's dead. And this is
(01:10:12):
part of the thing that is so that that that
that a lot of black folks fear, even those who
have gun permits, and that you can have that for
your protection and still end up being killed by cops.
And to listen to this and then to hear what
(01:10:35):
happened to your child is incredible. Uh, have they given
any explanation on what happened to you one year old,
Because look, I've got thirteen nieces and nephews. If I
walk over to a car and I see one of
my nieces or nephew leaning up against the window, the
last thing I'm gonna do is open the dog on
(01:10:57):
door to cause them to fall out and hurt themselves.
Absolutely not. And I think Moya can really sort of explain,
you know what, what she's heard from them and what
she actually heard from her three year old son, Kan
who witnessed his little brother being injured. Um, I was
(01:11:18):
told by three offers at one time that he leaned
on the door and opened it himself. Um, someone opened
the door and he fell out, and that he was
handed off and was dropped when he was handed off
to a family member. My son told me, UM that
him and his brother were in the car with an officer.
(01:11:38):
The officer was holding his brother and opened the door
and dropped his brother onto his face. UM. Has anybody
gotten an apology or an explanation from the cops. Were
those police officers wearing body camera footage so we can
actually see what transpired there. So from our understandings, some
(01:12:01):
of the squat team. They don't have bodycam where we
haven't been able to identify whether or not the officer
who was holding Kayland has body cam. But let me
let me explain something else. After Kaylan had suffered these
serious injuries to his head, and mind you, he's one,
the officers did have the MS come out and they
decided to send E. M. S Home instead of taking
(01:12:22):
a baby with those serious injuries to the hospital. And
when and when Ms Dixon arrived, she demanded to know
what happened. They had first tried to say, oh, you know,
maybe had a bumping bruise or whatever. His face was
covered in blood and she was she could not recognize him.
And when she said, I need to take my son
to the emergency room, the officers attempted to discourage her
(01:12:44):
from taking him to the hospital. Now, mind it's a
one year old child who just suffered a serious head
injury by hitting his head on the concrete, and we
all know the dangers when a child hits their head
that young. He could have gone to sleep and passed
away that night if somebody didn't take a look at him.
And that's how serious it is. She did receive an
apology from the Chief of police. But she never received
(01:13:06):
apology from these officers, and they completely told her multiple
stories that don't add up. And the idea that she
was encouraged not to take her child to the hospital
and that pencacole of p D specifically canceled me and
as from taking him to the emergency room is absolutely neglectful.
(01:13:27):
It seems as if something was intentional, and we're going
to get to the bottom of it, all right. So
here's a statement that the police actually issued, UM and
I want to read this statement right here. Go ahead,
pull it up, police UM. The statement raids after the
search warrant was served, two children who were inside the
(01:13:48):
residents were in the backseat of a car with a
PPD investigator while they were waiting on family members to
arrive to pick them up. A large vehicle approach that
approach that needed assistance navigating through the vehicles that were
in the role of the investigator got out of the
backseat to assist the driver. One of the children was
leaning on the door of the car when the investigator
(01:14:10):
opened it to get back in and fell out of
the car. The investigator wasn't aware that the child was
leaning on the door. The child was checked by E
M S for injuries. Both children were later released two
family members. Um let's deal with this attempted murder charge?
What the hell is that? It's it's absolutely mind boggling.
(01:14:35):
As you know, Florida has a standard standard ground clap
castle doctrine rule. In this instance, Mr Marinell absolutely falls
within the exception of standing his ground and protecting his home.
He had no idea who was bursting into his home
that night, and you have every right to use deadly
force in order to prevent an invasion into your home.
(01:14:58):
When it comes to lawn force schment. If Mr Marinot
does not know that they are law enforcement, he has
the right to use deadly force. Furthermore, law enforcement, if
they do not follow proper police policy, they also cannot
say that the standard ground or the castle doctrine doesn't
apply in this instance. In the Pitcical Police's own rest report,
(01:15:21):
they said they waited ten seconds after they knocked before
entering into the home. We know that the policy itself
says you have to wait a minimum of fifteen seconds.
That is a major, major difference when you're talking about
seconds in a situation like this, and it and It
really could have been the difference between Mr Marinot being safe,
the children being safe, and what we have right now,
(01:15:43):
where we have a young man who has a family
that he's been taken care of and now he's facing
the possibility of somebody attempting to take his freedom away,
and we will fight that every step of the way.
It is it is wild. Um, I'm gonna bring my
panel here and they have questions, but but this is
(01:16:03):
the thing that we constantly talk about. Philando Castile has
a permit for a gun, tells the cop, I got
a permit. He ends up dead. Um, a mere lock
had a permit for his gun. Cops bust in of
course that they don't even show, he doesn't even he
(01:16:25):
doesn't even point at anyone. He ends up dead. And
the same thing that the young man who was with
Brianna Taylor who fired. They charged him with a tempted
murder and charters were later dropped. I'm just trying to
understand a black man in his house and folks busting
(01:16:45):
at four forty five in the morning, can't protect himself
and he gets charged with a tempted murder. You know,
you know, rolling what what? What? This is saying is
that the Second Amendment doesn't apply to black people. The
Second Amendment doesn't apply to black men. We talk about
the right to bear arms. This man had every reason
(01:17:06):
to want to protect his one year old and his
three year old at four forty five in the morning,
and he did, and he exercises right. But when a
black man exercises his right, he's murdered, or the in
the event that he's not murdered, he's charged with a
tempt a murder. And it is absolutely, like I said,
it is mind boggling. And again that's why we are
calling for the Florida State Attorney not to press charges
(01:17:30):
against Mr or not to bring charges against Mr. Mary now.
And I'm quite sure you haven't heard Jack from the
n R A. Uh, let's go to my pal. I'm
gonna start with Larry. He's there in the Florida Larry,
gohead any questions. Yeah, you know, yeah, you know. First
of all, I'm glad that you know he didn't end
up um police didn't engage him in the kind of
way that we would have to be having a different conversation.
(01:17:52):
Let me say that, first of all, it's stickly as
a father, right uh, and obviously someone who lives in
the state. I think this is my question to you
is is in general and probably to your attorney, um,
how do you see this playing out? Because like in
Roland described some other situations where black, blacknails in particular
were killed, and in Brianna Taylor's a situation a sistem.
But we keep seeing this repeating over and over and
(01:18:14):
over again. So into your into your attorneys, how do
you think this is going to play out with the
state Attorney general here in the state of Florida. Here's
what I'm hoping. I think that's there's enough information out
there for the state attorney to make a decision that
in this instance it does not make sense to bring
charges against Mr Marino. Um Here, clearly the Pensacola PD
(01:18:36):
did not follow policy before entering into his home. Secondly,
why would you come to effectuate a warrant for documents
and things at four forty five in the morning. Why
couldn't you wait at seven until seven o'clock. Mr Mariner
would have gladly let him in. So what I am
asking for the state attorney to do is the right thing,
which is to say, you know what in this instance,
(01:18:59):
we've got to protect the rights of the homeowners. Yes,
we want officers to be safe, but given these very
specific facts, nothing substantiates a reason to pursue charges. So
I'm hoping that is the case. However, um, you never
know what's going to happen when it comes to a
decision by a state attorney. So if in fact, they
do decide to pursue charges, we will have to you know,
(01:19:21):
we will have to put up the defense necessary to
ensure this man's freedom. And as it relates to the children,
they are absolutely devastating. We still don't know what injuries
Kylan has suffered. Telling you that he has suffered injuries
that he was walking prior to this incident, he's no
longer walking, and he's won. He has significant emotional mood
(01:19:45):
swings and that's very indicative of a potential injury to
the frontal low. And then you have his brother Kon,
who was who was frightened every single day and it
is heartbreaking. But what we want is accountability, and I
think that if all part use their heads, they'll work
with us to resolve the issue. As it relates to
the injuries that happened to the children. And to not
(01:20:07):
pursue charges against Mr Marino. It's the right thing to do. UM.
My question was actually going to be about the children. UM,
Miss Dixon and Mr Marino. What you have experienced with
your children is just unconscionable, and Mr Marino, the treatment
you've experienced is appalling and abhorrent. My question is what
(01:20:28):
are the political levers that we can use, because we
know these are political decisions. This is an election year
that we can exert to reverse this decision and make
it untenable for them to continue with these baseless charges.
We need the Pensacola community and they came out today.
We need the Pensacola community to band together. We need
(01:20:49):
law enforcement to accept the fact that, you know what,
this probably wasn't the best way we could have handled
this situation, and most certainly the injuries to the children
are unacceptable coming together and saying, you know what, we
apologize and UM, and we'd like to work this out.
But we need community leaders. We need just the citizens
of Pensacola to start saying and writing to their city
(01:21:11):
council members, UM, to the mayor, this isn't right. And
we stand by Corey and we stand for justice. We
stand by Kyling, we stand by Kon, and we stand
by Moya, and that's really the way we pull those
political levers. And again, uh, you know, my team will
be speaking along with lu Timothy May who was there,
who was their pastor, who has been very vocal with this.
(01:21:33):
So we're hoping that we're speaking to the community leaders,
the state attorney as well as the chief of police
to resolve this. But it also helps to have the
community support them, and they most certainly came out in
masterdam great. Thank you, Roland. And I'll keep this brief.
I'm really trying hard to restrain myself from calling these
(01:21:56):
pet Rolla's devils, saying there from the depths of him,
so I won't say that. Um, you know, listening and reviewing,
first of all, your composure is remarkable. Let me say
that to both of y'all seriously, and and and thank
you for that. And I realized, Counselor that you know
that that's a major point in this reading about this
(01:22:19):
case sent me to the u n's definition of torture.
And while this isn't quite torture, it is cruel, inhumane
and degrading punishment of treatment. And that doesn't require intent.
My question, I think is is in line with Rec's
and you answered Recy's question, which leads me to a
different question. How can we nationalized internationalized this so it
(01:22:43):
isn't just the citizens of Pensacola, because you know, enough
is enough. You've attacked the baby at this point, we
need to rain fire on them. And so you know,
I know this is part of its Congressional Black Caucus,
the CPU, the churches dominations. What can we do to
make these PETA rollers famous because they did drop the
(01:23:05):
charges against as as you mentioned Kenneth Walker and round
A Taylor's case, and that'spect they're gonna use there are
they trying to use it for leverage whatever, But the
more this spotlight shines on them, let us burn them
with fire with this spotlight. Is that part of your
strategy as you move forward? Absolutely, that is why we're here.
I mean they retained us because we do not have
(01:23:26):
any fear of anyone or anything when it comes to
fighting for the constitutional rights of people around this country,
specifically this black family, and specifically the challenges that black
people have faced where their civil rights are completely being trample.
And what I'm also going to say is this we
will bring heim And the reason why that is is
(01:23:47):
because no knock warrants, knock and wait for two seconds
to say I complied, and busting in people's homes. It's unacceptable.
That's right, disregarding a black man's right to his Second Amendment,
knowing that and they knew, they knew he was a
registered firearm, disregarding them, and charging every black man for
(01:24:10):
wanting to defend themselves. That has to end. And yes,
we will talk to the CBC. And I need the
President to continue to do what he promised. I promised
to make change about these things, and we've already had
a series of unnecessary deaths, and quite frankly, it is
driving me nuts that we are not doing more, that
(01:24:31):
we're not seeing more movement. We saw that George Floyd
Bill die. It is time for all of us around
this country to once again band together to put an
end to no knock warrants, to put an end to
knock an entry where you do not give that person
enough time to even know what's going on. It's unacceptable,
and we have to start fighting these things, and we
(01:24:53):
have to hold people accountable, and people who hurt babies
must be fired perious. Yes, sir, yes, sir, um it
makes no sense of whatsoever, um at all. Call first
of all, um, uh corey um. How are you doing
(01:25:14):
uh personally emotionally, because that's a whole lot to deal
with when we talk about um, we talked about these uh,
these stories like this. Honestly, I'm not doing too good.
I'm not sleeping that night. I'm up my anxiety. I
never had anxiety before, but late live and having a
(01:25:34):
real bad anxiety. I wake up to loud noises if
I hear any loud noises, hyperventilate. It's just it's it's
really been tough on me. And then to see my kids.
The way he was is it's really been hard. And
also economically, lost your job, so I'm without a job.
(01:25:58):
How did you lose your job? The next day they
fired me, saying due to the circumstances, the Navy Federal
Credit Union fired this young man, someone who had passed
all of their rigorous background checks because of the circumstances.
He hasn't even technically been charged with the crime yet,
(01:26:20):
and now he is unemployed and he is trying, he's
struggling to be a father, to pay for things for
his family and still be a father to provide them
emotional support. It it's devastating, unbelievable. Um, folks, we appreciate
you giving providing us this exclusive. Please keep us abreast
of what happens in this case so we can update
(01:26:42):
our audience. Thank you so much. Wrong, thank you all right, folks. Uh,
you know again, this story right here is why black
media matters. It's because when we have the ability to
tell our own story, to share these stories and give
it the time and necessary as well. Again, a lot
of attention Greg is on the mere Lock case. But
(01:27:05):
when you talk about this here again, thanks so much.
And we talked about n r A, well, y'all at
that love talking my Second Amendment. But it's amazing every
time we have one of these stories where a black
black person has a gun and a permit or the
n r A is quiet as hell, Dana last Grant,
stitch stitch Field, All y'all talk with n r A.
(01:27:28):
What was it a Colin Noir whatever? Hell his name is?
What are y'all that? Yeah? Well, Roland, I mean, as
we know their their counselors said it perfectly at the
beginning the Second Amendment doesn't apply to black people. When
the Panthers busted up in the state legislature in Sacramento
(01:27:48):
with those guns, they stilly changed the gun laws in California.
In other words, no, y'all can't be doing that. And
let me just say parenthetically that I was impressed with
not only their composure, but with how the accouncilor presenting himself,
um forgotten money and Navy credit Navy Federal Credit Union
maybe want to consider withdrawing it. And in fact, if
(01:28:10):
that's Navy Federal Credit Union, seems to me that perhaps
the Secretary of the Navy needs to send the message
down I mean, this is this is where elected officials
can get involved. This man gonna lose his job. Behind
that is, there's some collusion between the pad rollers and
the damn Federal Credit Union down there. But uh, in short,
if the Castle Doctrine and stand your grand law as
(01:28:31):
anything other than a weapon to use to hunt black people,
that lawyer is gonna find out. And uh, if indeed
they these charges hold against the brother and in fact
we see an outcome we don't like, then they've taken
They've taken one more step toward lawlessness in this country.
I can't say that I'm necessarily sad about that, But
(01:28:54):
as we've all said, they dropped a baby. That boy
brother said, what happening, and then they're gonna tell a
straight lie about it. There's no there's no reforming that.
I like the way that lawyer talked it's time to
go to wharf these people straight up, and I think
that that type of intellectual warfare has to be pursued.
That's different than a gun. I'm not talking about a gun.
(01:29:15):
I'm talking about the best minds we have and flood
the damn place. That man lost his job on top
of this, they're trying to punish him again. This is
what we talked about, Larry, about being black in America.
I mean, it's four forty five in the morning. If
you got a gun and all of a sudden folks
(01:29:35):
bus through your house, the first thing you're gonna do
is grab your weapon. And now he faced at tipted
murder charges and the fuss up Damn the close and
electronics cops. Yeah, I gotta tell you rolling, I'm thinking
of Feeney Blue Hammer. I'm sick and tired of being
sick and tired. Right, we keep calling in circles about
(01:29:57):
we keep seeing the same challenges every single year. Um,
and you know, I think about his trauma and then
you know, the trauma of both children's children, and not
only the you know, the actually emotional trauma, but the
one year old. And you know, I'm certaly wondering to
get an m r I and you know, to find
out what is some of the similar possible long term damage. Right.
And as as as a parent, Um, you know you
(01:30:18):
you you feel for him and you can see it
in his face. I mean, this is a traumatic experience.
But this violence, this kind of violence of traumas consistent
with the challenges of black people in this country have
you know, have dealt with, you know, since in sixteen nineteen.
Also want to add this kind of hurt because the
attorney mentioned talked about the George Ford's Justice and Policing Act, Right,
So once again here we are back again, you know
(01:30:40):
from them the very beginning, once again of another traumatic experience,
that these children are being traumatized positive the rest of
their life. And when you know, obviously their father, the
mother and family members and member of the community are
traumatized and like I said, sick and tired of being
sick and tired, and we have to really I guess
that hold these um members of a law enforcement responsible
(01:31:02):
jap of the one year old is not acceptable and
certainly not kicking in somebody's during the middle of night,
and then I get sent us to the Florida. He
has the right to protect his family. Um. But once again,
it's uneven in terms of how we get we you know,
treatment throughout the United States history, So I'm not surprised.
Absolutely difficult to be black in this country. Rec I'm
like enraged on every level of being enraged. First of all,
(01:31:26):
let me say that these cops are lying their motherfucking
asses off, because you do not bring twenty officers for
no damn clothes and a computer. So whatever they are
really we're trying to get at it sounds like a
case of damn mistake and identity and they're trying to
cover their ass with this bullshit charge. That's number one.
Number two, we're talking about children, black children. I know
(01:31:50):
that these cops believe no human involved, but we're talking
about children. A one year old traumatized psychologically physically makes
me my are fucking ill? And I rate and and
and and I can't talk about it in academic calm
terms because it's infuriating. This is terrorism against a family,
(01:32:13):
and it's it's adding insult to injury on top of
injury on top of injury, on type of lifelong injury.
Hopefully not, but this is going to reshape the childhood
of these two young black boys who are the children
of law abiding citizens. And guess what, even if he
was guilty of a crime, who gives a funk. That
does not mean you get to drop a child on
(01:32:36):
their face and shrug it off and and try to
dissuade them from getting medical attention, to try to lie
about it. That is not give them the right to
do that. So, as Dr Carr says, there's no weed,
this is where we, as black people are people of conscience,
have to test that and wrap our arms around him.
(01:32:56):
I want to know what is his cash app? Does
he have a go fund Me? Actually they do. I
just I just got a text message about their go
fund I'm waiting for them to send it to me. Uh.
And so when we were gonna give that so folks, um,
we're gonna pull that up after we after this break,
We're gonna pull it up we're gonna show folks with it.
And I just said, can I just finished? Can I
(01:33:17):
just finish one work? Thing I want was that you know,
when these white boys get out there, when they plan
killing these padrollers, these these these these slave patrol motherfuckers
get out there killing people, they become millionaires. They become
a cause. They an't got to worry about it for
the rest of their life, let alone a conviction. They
an't got to worry about nothing. Cal rittenhouse out there,
(01:33:38):
chilling at the bar. And yet we have when black
people are being terrorized by the system and they're being
uh cruel and unusual punishment, it's just another story of
black people being mistreated. This is a story where we
should all get behind really wrapping our arms around this
family and doing something about He should not be unemployed
(01:33:58):
with the skills that he has. An in averse true
world where people can work remote, if you have a
business that you can use his kind of help with,
if you are a psychiatrist who can offer services. This
is where we have to start being that community that
we claim to be when we're looking for reparations with
everything else. Nothing that's everything wrong with that, but we
have to be more of a community and wrapping our
(01:34:18):
arms around people like Mr Moreno and Ms Dixon and
these two babies, these two babies, we got to do
better by this. If nobody else will do it, we
got to do it. Folks. You have to go fund
me ready, Okay, come on, um. So this, folks, this
is again I keep telling you all this here, this
right here. While we don't do gossip, we don't do mess.
(01:34:42):
There are real stories that black people are being impacted
by every single day that we cover, and we tell
these stories. This is the go funding page right here.
Support baby Uh Silent Chaoni more and Corey. Their goals
raised twenty five thousand dollars. Was created one day ago.
Uh they've already raised nine hundred and thirty five dollars.
(01:35:03):
And so folks, we want you all to support them.
Please pass this go fund me around as well, share it,
spread it. To Reese's point, when that when that thug
Kyle Rittenhouse did what he did, that they raised two
million dollars. All those folks, Ricky Schroeder was out there
supporting him, helping him with his legal bills, and so
we want to be sure support them as well. And
(01:35:25):
so that's why. And also and let me also thank
thanked them for reaching out to black owned media to
tell this story with this exclusive. Uh, that's important as well,
which is why we do what we do. And So
before I go to a break, and yes, I'm gonna
take your phone calls. Before I got to go to
a break, I do want to go to Minneapolis. Georgia
(01:35:47):
Fort now joins us to give us an update and
the breakdown of what happened in the courtroom today when
those three former cops were found guilty, uh, for doing
nothing to say the life of George Floyd. So, Georgia
walking through what butt in court today, Well, we received
a alert from the Federal courthouse that the verdict was
in this afternoon. We had about fifteen minutes to get
(01:36:10):
there before they announced it. And so when the judge
opened up the courtroom, he announced that all three officers
were found guilty on all charges. When to tal Thomas
Lane and Alexander King walked in, they they had almost
this arrogance and confidence that they were going to be
(01:36:31):
found not guilty because it wasn't their knee that was
on George Floyd's neck. But after the guilty guilty came
in on two of the three defendants, you started to
see a change in atmosphere, even tears coming down the
defendant's eyes. Lane specifically, we heard a lot of people
(01:36:52):
um thinking he was going to get off, but also
thinking that the jury was going to be sympathetic for
Officer Lane because as his pregnant wife came to court
every single day. But that's not the case. And so
now now that all three officers have been found guilty
of not intervening, have been found guilty of violating George
(01:37:14):
Floyd's civil rights, the question that was asked to Floyd's
brother and nephew is if they've talked to a journey
Attorney General Keith Ellison to find out whether or not
the state trial is still necessary. They said, that's a
conversation that has not yet taken place and will soon
be determined. But what we did hear from the Floyd
(01:37:37):
family uh. Floyd's brother made a statement along with the U. S.
Attorney's Office following the announcement of the verdict and his brother.
Floyd's brother pointed to the many other injustices that have
happened in Minneapolis. I know you've heard of Dante Wright
you've heard of a mirror lock. And he pointed to
(01:37:58):
the fact that kimber Lee Potter smiled in her mug
shot and was only sentenced to two years with probably
sixteen months to serve. And uh, the jury is still
out on whether or not the officer who fatally shot
a mere Lock will be held accountable. At this point,
it's been three weeks since Locke was fatally shot, and
(01:38:18):
we have not heard from Mayor Fry, We've not heard
from the interim police Chief, Amilia Huffman, we haven't heard
from the Hennepin County Attorney's office. We haven't heard from
Keith Ellison. No one is talking about whether or not
Locke will be fatally shot. And so while obviously the
three officers who were found guilty today, obviously that's a
(01:38:40):
total different case. The way that Floyd's brother tied all
of these events together, he said, every time he comes
to Minneapolis, it's not for anything good. And while he
was here for the show of and trial, uh Dante
Wright was fatally shot. And then while he was here
for this trial, a mere Lock was shot. And so
(01:39:02):
they're also hesitant about coming back if there is a
state trial for the other three officers because the record
that we have here, I mean by then we might
have another police killing. And so the community continues to protest.
The community UH was even gathered today black men in
(01:39:23):
the community, dozens of black men Grammy Award winning artists
from Mint Conditions spoke out. We heard from doctors, We
heard from UH individuals who work at colleges all different professions.
We heard from pastors who spoke out today demanding that
the mayor, demanding that the interim police chief intervene, that
(01:39:48):
Attorney Keith Ellison make a determination on the case, and
that they release in in the case of a mere lock,
and that they released the rest of the footage. Um
so in Minneapolis. Although some would say that this is
a step forward and it's a small victory when you
think of the bigger picture here, there's still a very
(01:40:09):
long way to go. All right, Georgia Fort, we really
appreciate it. Thank you so very much. Gotta go to break.
We come back. We're gonna talk to official from Texas
about that UH effort to get rid of tenure because
Dan Patricks hurt feelings. Also, we'll take your phone calls, folks,
call this number. Please if you want to weigh in
about any of the stories we talked about, that exclusive
(01:40:31):
story we just shared with you, as well as of
course the other news to zero two eight nine zero
zero two eight nine zero nine got lots of folks holding.
We're gonna give you thirty seconds for each one of
those callers. Uh, and so we're gonna make that happen.
We'll be right back on Rolling Martin Unfiltered right here
on the Black Starting Network. SA, don't you think it's
(01:42:07):
time to get Wealthy? I'm Jember Owen's America's Wealth Coach,
and my new show on the Black Star Network focuses
on the things your financial advisor or bank isn't telling you.
So watch Get Wealthy on the Black Star Network. I'm
(01:42:43):
Dr Greg Carr inviting you to take your seat at
the Black Team and we'll be discussing the past, present
in future of Black history. Money. But we need to
understand what the principle asked is of African people to
understand themselves. Take your see enjoined the conversation only on
the Black Star Network. Black Star Network is here a
(01:43:10):
real old revolutionary right now. Worn Black media makes sure
that our stories are told. Thank you, for being the
boys the black of Baron Corolla. A moment we have.
Now we have to keep this going to the video
looks phenomenal between Black Star Network and Black owned media
and something like CNN. You can't be black owned media
(01:43:34):
and be scape. It's time to be smart. Bring your eyeballs,
hold your dig Hey, I'm cubid to make it. The
(01:43:56):
cubid shuffle and the wham dances going on. This is
Tobias Travilion. If you're ready, you're listening to and you
are watching Roland Martin Unfiltered. M all right, folks, welcome
back to rolland Martin Unfiltered. We're getting pulling up the
(01:44:18):
next guest, talk about that story of the Texas when
it came to uh this whole ball with Tenure. I
want to go to the phone lines h and get
uh all of you out here talking about what's going on.
Let's go to Porto McMillan, Porto you un rolling Martin Unfiltered?
Which comment? Porto? You're there, Porto Porto? Can you hear me?
(01:44:52):
You're there? Okay? God, let me uh go put port
on the hole please. It's Bernice Parish there. Bernice, can
you hear me, Bernice, Can you hear me? Bernice? You're there, Bernice,
(01:45:18):
can you hear me? Yeah? I want him? What's going
on in the control room, Bernie's can you hear me? Bernice?
(01:45:38):
I guess not? All right, So, UM, here's here's what
I'm gonna do. We're gonna first of all, I need
y'all to figure out what's going on. Okay, way too
many problems in the control room today. All right. So
we've got lots of people who on the phone lines.
Let's get it together, all right. Um, we're gonna go
back to talking about this story out of Texas when
it comes to the issue with um with tenure. And
(01:46:00):
we're seeing all of these different stories, we're seeing them.
These things happen all across the country. Uh. And what
is speaking to I said earlier, is what happens when
you have uh frankly flat out crazy folks who are
in power in this country. Uh. And so in a moment,
we're gonna talk with a woman she actually went fro
(01:46:21):
lieutenant governor in the state against hopefully to run against
Dan Pattrick. She's she's also a professor of sociology the
texts of the university. Uh, Carla Bailey, and so all right, Carla,
you there, Carla. So we were talking earlier about this
thing that Dan Patrick is doing and frankly just makes
no sense whatsoever. But it shows you how Republicans in
(01:46:42):
Texas want to stifle freedom UH voices. They want to
stifle UH people who disagree with them. This is about
absolute control, and because they oversee Texas State universities, they
want to impose their will on these universities absolutely. I mean,
what we're seeing is not only attack on a system
(01:47:05):
tenure system that has been meant U to ensure that
professors to have academic freedom across the board. But I
think what we see that if this actually goes forth
in a state of Texas, we also know what kind
of impact this can have on historically black colleges and universities.
And so when I entered even this race, I had
no idea that my very job would be on the
(01:47:27):
line as a professor who actually really focuses on social
inequality and in studies related to social justice, which is
a direct challenge that this current leadership is attempting to do.
And for them to literally threaten UH to in tenure
is unbelievable. I mean, this isn't the whole point obtenue
(01:47:49):
academic freedom. Yeah. Absolutely, I don't think anyone would have
saw this coming. Um. I know that what we're seeing
in Texas is really this anti democratic move meant and
we're seeing that. You know, it's less than of of
of Texans who have been really embraced this, so well,
we're seeing that even I think if we would have
(01:48:10):
some conversations with some Republicans, they will be against this
and and and that's what we're seeing. And if they
can do this in Texas, god knows where else they
can do it. Um. Absolutely, Uh. And so it is ongoing. Back.
First of all, you know, Dan Patrick has been absolutely
unbelievably awful for Texas. Uh. This is the same person
(01:48:32):
who said that older Texans should frankly die so so
kids won't have to take vaccine mandates that I'm sitting
there going, why don't you volunteer yourself? Then? If that's
the case, and again, that's the kind of thing that
we're seeing happen there in Texas. How are professors responding
to this threat? Oh? I think for I actually think
that Dan may have targeted the wrong population. I mean,
(01:48:55):
you shouldn't target any population. But I think this very
system cross is race, class, gender, it crosses um, you know,
even occupation because at the end of the day, these
professors and I'm a professors as well, it's actually educating
students who go out and become our you know, our
next leaders in a various industry. So this is not
(01:49:16):
something that professors and educators are taken lightly. Um and
I and I think in the weeks to come, you're
gonna see much more pushback than we're already seen. All right, then,
Carlo was certainly appreciated. The Primaria folks are going to
the polls right now. You've had lots of cold weather.
They're in Texas impacting the polls there, so folks be
sure to vote on Tuesday and that Texas primary there.
(01:49:38):
So Carlo, we appreciate it. Thanks a lot, Thank you
for your work. All right, folks, So we're gonna do
this here. Let me do this year. Y'all pull the
go fund me page up, please, I told you it's
a few moments ago I gave you the go fund me.
I just want to show you all how our viewers respond.
Note you gotta refresh that. I gotta refresh that it
was nine and thirty or five dollars. We told y'all,
(01:49:59):
uh that number or hit refresh please that number down
is five thousand dollars. And so in less than ten
minutes our fan base game, can y'all please hit refresh? Okay,
in less than ten minutes, our fan base has given
almost uh what we've given. So it's about five thousand,
(01:50:21):
one hundred dollars. Uh. So it was not hearing three
when we started. The number has gone up to more
than five thousand, and so uh, let's we're gonna show
it again, folks at by the end of the show
what we have given all r Let's go to a
quick break. We come back. We're gonna take your phone calls.
Right here are Rolling Martin unfiltered on the blacks Start Network.
(01:51:00):
H Black Start Network is dece no funding, real old
(01:51:55):
revolutionary right now a crowd work just saying block medium.
He makes sure to ARSLD thank you for being the
boys to lack America. Rolling moment to be at now
we had to keep this going to the video looks
phenomenal between Black Star Network and Black owned media and
something like CNN, you can't be black owned media and
(01:52:18):
be scap. It's time to be smart. Bring your eyeballs,
hold your dig Yeah, all right, fo us, welcome back
(01:52:45):
Rolling Martin on the filters. Let's go to the phone lines.
Lines are open, portal. You're there, hero, Yeah, what's your comment?
I'd like to say, thank you for what you're doing. Uh.
I'm a big family, your us. My grandmother's a big family,
both watching right now. She's been watching you for years
on TV one. And Uh, I just wanted to comment
(01:53:08):
about the story with the families. Some pens of call.
My heart goes out about them, and uh, this is
a sign. And I planned to donate to the go
from the page after the show was over. And I
just last time, I was gonna say Rolling, Uh what Uh,
I'm a voter, I'm a young voter. I'm in college
(01:53:28):
right now, and I wanted to just just thank you again.
What are you doing? And uh, um keep watching enjoying
the show, reporter. I still appreciate that, man, Thank you
so very much. Let's go to our next collar. Uh.
I need to pull a screen up here for go
to this collar. Yeah, all right here, all right, you're
(01:53:51):
on the air. You're on the air. Can they Yes?
You're the heir. Go ahead, Hi, Dr Martin, how are
you parish. I'm a senior citizen and I've been watching
you since you was on the other television. I'm a
(01:54:13):
senior citizen and I have a couple of things, Mr Martin. First,
what's comment? Can you hear me? What's your comment? So?
Do do do this? Here? I need to turn your
TV down because there's a delay, So just simply listen
to me, turn your TV down, and so go a
(01:54:34):
head with your comments. Okay, First, thank you for all
you do and your people you have on I'm thinking
about James Bondwing when he says we're the only people
in America that didn't ask to come here. And on
top of that, how can we talk about justice when
the judicial system was built on corruption? Okay, great point,
(01:55:01):
great point. Uh, you're absolutely right. Um. You know. And
again this is, as some say, uh, an experiment SOMETHINGNA
call it a failed experiment. Uh? And so is that
it any other comment? Yes? And then we talked about
how they control us and they're still doing it. The gun,
the width, and the Bible. Mm hmm. All right, great point,
(01:55:27):
great point. I appreciate, thank you, Thank you very much.
Let's call it. Please Hello, yep, the only air go ahead? Yes,
Uncle Roland, my name is Lewis. I just wanted to
give my comments, my two cents on the Russian Ukraine situation.
(01:55:51):
I'm just gonna say that Uncle Mans warned us. If
everybody thinks this has nothing to do with black people,
do you think those how to gas persons at the pump?
I'm going to hurt waiting for a world of trup.
We're not fucking ready to quote recy. Oh no, you
(01:56:12):
quote Malcolm X and you quote quote recy. If that's
if there's if there's if there's cussing involved, that means
you quote recy. Got it all right? Did I lose?
I preach it? Thanks a lot, uh to see to
see you look recent you got folk calling in cousin. Hey,
(01:56:34):
it's unfiltered. Oh man, let's go. Let's go North Jersey.
Alison Kenzie, Alison, you're Roland Martin. I'm filtered on the
Black Start network. What's your comment? Row, how are you?
I'm doing great? Well. I gotta say that I enjoy
your show and my money come out every year for you.
(01:56:58):
I appreciate it. Thank you as brother Paul. Please don't
put more books up to the seeing to buy everyone
you put up. But but if you do that black bookstore,
I do. I do, I too, and rethink. My niece
(01:57:18):
looks just like you, And I told you if she
cuffs like you, we're gonna have a fight. Yeah, I
can accuss. I don't know about her. Uh huh. What
I wanted to say was when I was in high school,
I had a Jewish teacher. You know, everybody had their
(01:57:41):
issues with her. But the one thing that she did
show us in a predominantly black school which is now
predominantly Hispanic, um, she showed some movie about a white
rabbit and the black rabbit. She showed how the law
applied to the white rabbit it and have the law
(01:58:01):
applied to the black rabbit. She was letting us know
that even those the laws says this between the lines,
it means something else for us. Me need to protect
ourselves and don't basically saying what my mom says. You
(01:58:24):
can't do what other people do and walk up right
because you weren't made to walk up right when they
brought you here. M okay, all right, So I really
enjoy you. I also well appreciate it. Thanks a lot,
Shandre Whitley for New York. Hey, Chandre, it's good, Yes,
(01:58:49):
good evening, roll In and its distinguished guests. I love
you all. You know you cannot teach a learn empathy.
You'd either have it or you don't. And I will
explain why I care about what's going on in um
In Ukraine. Thirty years ago, Ukraine was the third largest
(01:59:13):
nuclear power in the world. They gave up the nuclear
weapons in the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty and Russia signed onto that.
Malcolm X got in trouble when he said about chickens
coming home to roost. Momacadaci was made, was asked to
(01:59:35):
give up his nuclear weapons, and he gave him up,
and the Obama administration said, we took him out. Imagine
a world where Mexico could decide one day that they're
going to come up in the United States take back
the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, in
(01:59:57):
Texas because that was once there territory. Empathy would tell
us that you could use that analogy for the Ukraine.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything that Dr Carr says. America
has been waging m hetimony around the world for years,
(02:00:19):
but I see that the next hegemonic war will be
fought right here in the United States against US. And
I thank you for everything that you do. Appreciate Thanks,
I appreciate it. Thanks a lot, you know, Larry Reese
and Greg this is really important. She mean, I love
that she mean about Ukraine and then trying to live it.
(02:00:42):
This is why Pakistan, this is why India UH I said, no,
I ain't good about nuclear weapons. This is why North
Korea UH playing the games that they play because they
understand you having a nuclear weapon means you're going back
the hell off of trying to come after us. That
(02:01:03):
is the reality. Now folks say, hey, I hate nuclear weapons.
It's only one country that has actually used a nuclear
bomb against another country. And the reality is we have
seen this. This is why Saddam Hussaining. This is why
other countries, this is why. This is why you've never
had Israel officially state that they have a nuclear bomb,
(02:01:28):
even though we know they do. And that is the deal,
because it has served as a deterrent from other superpowers
trying to come into your country. That's just a fact.
That's right, that's right. Roman. In fact, you know it's
our society in the United States has a memory of
a fruit fly. Even as Saddam, who's seen was negotiating,
(02:01:51):
trying to negotiate with the US government to prevent invasion
because remember, uh, they had a beef with Kuwait. You're
not ain't it already determined they were going to go
into Iraq. It was nothing they can do the UN
trying to negotiate, you had people try Now hell now
they're gonna invade, and they used the pretext of protecting
the kuwaitis they You know that sister really did lay
(02:02:15):
it out South Africa, if you remember, was forced to
give up the nuclear weapons. Why because it was gonna
be a black control government had those nuclear weapons. And
what she has said again, I mean, and we know,
and we're looking at our brother, and you've had him
on this show now, I'm sure he's swamped with interviews everywhere.
I've been trying to follow Trail Star a little bit,
(02:02:35):
and he's in the in Ukraine right now that he's
in Kiv. And of course we know who suffers in war,
the people. It ain't the politicians, it's the people. And
so you know, I'm really thinking about the regular folking
places like Taiwan and other places because trust us, China
got the ball and China is looking to see how
(02:02:55):
this is going to play out. This can't be one
with force. I don't know that it can be one
with diplomacy. Some of this we may just have to
eat because at the end of the day, you know,
if you got the bomb and they got the bomb,
as curs Mayfield said, if there's hell below, we're all
gonna go and we are along for the ride. At
this point, something something's got to give, and I think
(02:03:17):
we should all be very concerned about this the situation
where right now. I agree absolutely. The next call, I
think that's a question for you, Greg Devin Young. Uh, Devin,
you're on Rolling Market unfiltered with your question. Hey, how
y'all doing. I appreciate everything he's doing rolling Um, Reese,
(02:03:37):
you look so much like my beautiful sister. So apparently
on this call you you're getting you're hearing from your king.
I guess h just the cuss like from time to time.
The time of time. He also her name is Erica,
so special affection for this panel. Um, this question is
for anyone, but I was feeling dr cars wanting in
(02:04:00):
relations of Black history months and the trial is happening now,
Cardigi Windson Woodson and miss education. The Negro says, the
trial by jury originated in Africa or by from Africans.
How can I verify that? And what sources can I
find to learn more about that because our stand online
in England and Greece. Okay, very quickly, brother, thank you
(02:04:22):
for the question. Um. The the concept of the jury
as we have it today comes out of the Western traditions,
the English common law. But if you if you're talking
about a kind of tribunal to judge between two disputants
where a lawyer is representing one side, you can find
(02:04:43):
that in the ancient Egyptians. In fact, if you look
at the dispute between the Greeks would call him talk
th h o t h um talk one on the
dispute between Horrace and his uncle Set and it was
they fought each other over control of in our valley,
and Horace was represented by talk th h o t
(02:05:03):
a h And the jury where the natural who represented
each of the states. For lack of a better term,
in antion in Egypt, that first trial is Egyptian. Look
up the battle of Horace and set and from there
look up the trial. I believe it was the idiot,
which is the nine who judged, but that was the
jury trial, brother, and then that that's about as old
(02:05:25):
as it gets in human history. All right, Devin, we
appreciate it, man, Thank you so very much. I'm gonna
do calls for three more minutes. Uh. Let me quickly
go to um Russell. Russell, you're on roller market unfocused.
What's your comment? Hello, Yes, tre the air, Yes, Roan.
I'm gonna thank you guys for what you do every day.
(02:05:47):
And this question is for just for the whole panel.
Do you guys believe that did you guys believe that
Putin and Trump or in cahous to establishes war, to
(02:06:07):
try and have a diversion because of the insurrection of
January six? No, Um, I think what you have is
clearly uh, Putin was in cahoots with Donald Trump. Donald
Trump did everything. In fact, when Donald Trump met with Putin,
he meant privately had the translator destroyed the notes of
(02:06:28):
their meeting. Normally, when presidents meet with foreign leaders, they
literally have a copy of what was said in this place.
With the National Security Advisor Donald Trump had those destroyed. Uh,
so clearly you got something going on right there. Uh.
And Uh, there's no doubt that Putin preferred to have
Trump in the Oval office. That's why Donald Trump ain't
(02:06:49):
got no business even being near the Oval Office because
we can't trust a damn thing that he said or
Putin as well. Okay, I have one more Western rolling,
Go ahead, bro, got one more question. Do you I
know you give a lot of advice to to the
Democratic uh Committee? Do you ever try and I guess
(02:07:13):
have them listening to your your show or somebody messages
to them regarding your show or trust me? They listen, Oh,
they listen, and trust me, I hear from the White House. Well,
I hear from the d n C uh And and
what people understand is we make it perfectly clear that
we're gonna be honest with them on every single term,
so they know exactly where we stand on these issues,
(02:07:36):
and they don't just hear from the show to hear
from me directly. Okay, all right, I prettyure this, sir,
Thank yourself very much. Uh. Let me see here, Uh,
Keith Darnell, Keith Jarnell, you enrolling Martin unfiltered with your comment, Keith, Keith,
(02:08:00):
you're there going once, going twice? Keith? All right, Uh,
that's cause Keith you there, Keith, I'm gonna drop you, sorry, Keith. Uh.
Robert James from Arizona, Robert, what should comment? Robert? You're
(02:08:22):
on the air? Hi, ro ro pretty reefy. Look at
you girl with your customs still and um, hi after
Grig and the handsome man in the boat tie, that's Larry.
This is Larry's first time on the panel, so he
getting hazed early on. I love it. I love all
(02:08:46):
of you. This is my favorite panel right here. Yeah, y'all,
but I like I like your show. Rowan, I appreciate it.
Thank you. Great work. Yeah, I'm doing god to work,
so keep it up. I appreciate it. Thank you so
very much. What's your comment? Um? I just I'm just
(02:09:07):
claver gastered. I looked at that baby knows and I'm
just I'm just trying to keep my spirits up because
I'm just, you know, and I'm glad I found to
go fund me. So thank you for sharing that recon.
And they're in my prayers. They're not gonna get away
with this. Those demons are not going to get away
(02:09:27):
with this you trust me. Well, that's precisely why that's
a flocity. Well, that's what You're absolutely right. That's one
of the reasons why it's important for us to get
these stories out. Uh, so people are aware of what happens.
Uh and so it absolutely matters. We appreciate your phone call.
Thanks a lot, God bless y'all. I'm going to close
(02:09:51):
it out this way. I'm gonna go Larry Reese and
then Greg again. I think back to a story I
think I was on. I was on a State of
Black Media UM call today with Graham Media Group, and
we were talking about UM content. We're talking about these things,
(02:10:14):
you know, what happens, how black people see things different
from white people. And when I was at TV one,
you know, the first the first UM CEO we had
a TV one was my man UM was my man,
Jonathan Rodgers, our fat brother, Greg Um. And when Jonathan retired,
(02:10:35):
he was replaced by Wanya Lucas and then she left
and then UM we hired Brad Brad Siegel. And one
day we were in Brad's office and Brad was the
first white president of TV one, and Brad asked me, well,
you know the stories that you do on the show.
(02:10:57):
I just think we're seeing the same thing every day.
My it What do you mean? He said, you know,
it's you know every day it's it's it's these shootings
and police brutality. I said, because that's the ship that's
happened to black people, Brad, and that's what we cover.
And then if we don't cover it, then who will? Uh?
(02:11:19):
And so he wanted me to do this thing where
to sort of explain why we were doing certain sticks
stories And I said, why would I do that? Well
for people who don't who don't understand, I said, black
people understand it. Brad, You're not black. I don't have
(02:11:43):
to explain the black people why we do stories on
police brutality. And I was and I was in my mind, y'all.
I was the host boss of the Managing Anita, which
I had final say so on content, and I said, Brad,
you know what, just do me a favorite. Why don't
you focus on prime time? Because if whyn't you focus
on prime time and getting dealing with advertising? And why
(02:12:05):
don't you leave the news content to me on News one? Now? Now,
I'm sure he was taking aback because he was the
president of the network. But I didn't give a damn
because I wasn't about to sit here and have to
explain myself as to why I was doing these stories.
I said, because Brad, black folks are the ones getting
(02:12:26):
shot by the cops and getting beat by the cops.
And if we don't do these stories with who the
hell will So maybe when they stopped shooting and killing
black folks there, it won't be my lead story. That
right there, And Larry, is why I keep trying to
tell people why it matters for us not to be
sold and where we inundated with damn entertainment and sports
(02:12:50):
and gossip and all that sort of stuff. If we
do not have places where we are covering the real issues,
that all we're doing is hope and white media cover
us and do it from our vantage point, and that
just ain't gonna happen. Yeah, you know, your platform is important,
and like I said, as a black man, but also
(02:13:11):
as an alpha man. But you know, you know, black
folks have been no alpha the house, Scott Bolding. Scott
Bolding is throwing up somewhere another alpha man. But you know, um,
you're right, you know your platform is critically important because look,
at look at the panelists. Right. You know how often
you turn the cable to look at cable news networks
(02:13:31):
and see people look like us. But you're right. As
a black man, I always tell my students that you know,
I'm a black man first, right, So when I get
my car drive around, I have the same concerns and
every other black man does in America. And as a
father of a black mail son, those that those stressors,
that anxiety from worried about his safety is something that's
that's a part of our you know, our our day
to day lives. So listen, you know rolling Like I said,
(02:13:52):
you keep doing what you're doing. This is critically important.
I appreciate the opportunity for the platform, um. And it's
someone like I said, I was a black man, but
as a research and writes about racism. Um. You know,
black people cautch in hell in this country. And we
have to be able to offer some programming on TV
that counts a lot of the nonsense you see on
cable TV, because it will continue if we these this
information campaigns will continue if we don't have platforms like yours.
(02:14:15):
So I applaud you to appreciate it. And this is
there's always a wonder prompt to Larry. I appreciate you
joining us first time on the panel. Great job, and
of course I see you. You didn't put the alpha
part in your email when you have to come on
the show. You did. I must have missed that. I
must have missed that part. Then that must have missed
that missed out one recing again. First of all, y'all
(02:14:36):
show me the latest, give me the latest. And again
this is the power of black owned media. When we
started this, they had nine hundred and thirty five dollars.
We've almost hit ninety. But first of all, we wout
actually exceeded that, and that we've that's not multiplied, gone
(02:14:57):
from nine and thirty five out to nine thousand, three
undre sixty eight dollars. Uh. And the thing is when
when you go on these other networks thing put that
go fund me up. This is why our voices matter.
Recent going right, This is where that community is built.
This is where we are the ones who are going
to be the change that we want to see. We
(02:15:17):
don't have to beg for coverage, we don't have to
beg for scraps of representation and being talked about briefly
and very narrow lenses. We have a broad array of concerns,
of expertise and people who can provide opinions that are
not monolithic. And that's the importance of the Black Start network,
(02:15:38):
of the programming in addition to Rolling Martin Unfiltered and
a Roller Martin Unfiltered, because this is really where you
can get the facts, and this is where it's not
about the cool kids club and who knows who's gonna
keep looking out for who. It's about the folks who
have the knowledge and the folks who are gonna give
it to you real straight up, no chase there. And
you ain't got agree with everything that everybody has to say,
(02:15:59):
but we don't have to tenue looking and begging elsewhere
to get the kind of representation that we get here
every single night. I Roller Martin Filter today ain't about
what's going viral with don let me said or somebody
else on the white facing networks. We say that stuff
every day. It ain't nothing new over here. So we
have to value and I've said that has been a
while since I've said this, but we have to value
(02:16:19):
our own ship and we have to value the the
the expertise and the words and the sentiment that comes
from our own ship. And when we do that, then
we'll get even more eyes, and we'll get even more power,
and we'll get even more community, and we'll get stronger
together when we put the value on what we can
produce like we do the other stuff. And you know,
(02:16:42):
Regreg and I wasn't initially going to mention this, but
I'm just gonna go ahead real quick. You know, I
had loved back and forth today with Jason Lee with
Hollywood Unlocked because for three days they've been reporting that
Queen Elizabeth died and I'm like, y'all the only ones
in the world, so y'all got the the scoop scoop,
and he's been doubled and tripling down. And so I
(02:17:03):
had a few choice words on their Instagram page about it,
and I said, litt' be clear, I've taken the Shade
Room Black Enterprise other folks to task when they when
they have had Madden stuff, didn't didn't report properly that
that that was just wrong and black on media. So
he decided to come at me, uh, blasting me, called
me a coon in words. I blocked him on Twitter uh,
(02:17:27):
and I said, I said, I only number to call
me that. Uh And he's all upset, mad and and
and here's the deal, if y'all go look at the
post on Instagram and Twitter where he's he's going off
on me, all of folks undeath the comments of blasting
him for shoddy reporting. So it actually backfired on him.
Then a little bit earlier today, by eight hours ago,
he tweeted how he has the receipts on me losing advertisers. Well,
(02:17:52):
eight hours later he brought no receipts out. See, Jason
needs to understand I'm a grown bass man. That gossip
stuff don't work on me. He even said, Oh folks,
don't nobody ninety and under nobody under ninety know who
you are really, But it's amazing how many folks responded,
(02:18:13):
And see the thing here is this here. I love
to see new black owned media outlets launched, but you
still gotta have credibility, you still gotta have integrity. So
I'm about to tweet to Jason, Jason, you want to
do something, why don't you amplify to go fund me?
Wan't you amplify the exclusive that we just had on
that family ships. He actually said, I am broken nose
(02:18:37):
stories in a long time. Boy, My stuff is so
long you can't even catch up. But the thing I
need people to understand is if we do not have
real journalists and covering real news, all we are going
to be doing is gossiping about what Kanye d his
(02:19:00):
new album and something else. I need people to understand.
The time has come for us to return to our
roots of the North Star of Ottabi Wells Barnett. That's why.
That's why she's right there, That's why she's here right there.
We gotta return to the writings of James Balbin. We
(02:19:21):
gotta return to when Ebony had some of the most
comprehensive coverage, what issues of impacting Black America, what Jet
was doing, Negro digests. See, we got time for games here, y'all.
The other side ain't playing. If y'all want to see
the top the top ten UH sites on Facebook, nearly
(02:19:42):
all conservative. They're literally banding together. Yesterday great I sent
a note I made a comment to about thirty high
profile African Americans. Probably if I added up all of
their following, we would exceed seventy d million. And I said,
what if black people did what conservative media did, and
(02:20:05):
that is Teresa's point. Not just recirculate the clip of
Don Lemon or a clip that's on MSNBC. I said,
but what if black folk with huge followings said, we're
gonna circulate ten clips of Rolling Martin Unfiltered every single week,
and then we're gonna circulate clips from this black on
(02:20:27):
media outlet and then this one right here? I said,
you know what would happen the following of which it
was rise dramatically, which also raises the revenue of those companies.
As a couple of people responded, oh man, you write
you right, but ain't nobody retweeted one thing. So a
lot of can you talk about the collective, but a
(02:20:47):
lot of folk greg ain't real about the collective. They're
about them collecting and checked themselves close us out. You're right, rolling.
I mean, you know when I say there's no weed,
that ain't includes the notion of the black community. What
what held us together initially was our common impression, and
out of that common impression we built a community. But
(02:21:09):
after the change in the laws in the United States desegregation,
you see increasing fractures in that solidarity. So that's where
we get to where we are. But the beautiful thing
about it Rolling is and everybody you know, we all
and we work with Rolling. We see how hard he works.
When you work like that, you engender trust. It is
(02:21:30):
trust that now has that go fund me approaching ten thousand,
and it will probably overflows. So by the time the
sun comes up on east coast of the United States
of America, that family in Pensacola will be a little
less stressed. That's because of trust. People don't just give
money hard airing money. Technically Black folk, we don't crowdsource
things because we don't have it like that. But if
it's somebody we trust, we do that. And you don't
(02:21:51):
build trust overnight. Ask people a bn C. You don't
ask you. You don't build trust overnight. And it's not
what they're good to bad people at the end of
the day. Is because people learn who they can rely on.
You know, when you see Rolling in Liberia, when you
see Rolling in Ghana, you know, Rollan's come out of
his pocket, rolling his his convention pennies. Rolling is every
(02:22:11):
dollar you give is immediately repurposed into the work. And
so people will then say, well, I'll give a dollar
twenty five next time, a dollar fifty next time, and
as it catches fire, that baby's facing that story would
happen them in Pensacola. I suspect on this trajectory will
become international news. And then you'll see dining them and
looking very worried as as he interviews the family. Then
(02:22:33):
you see how many times have we seen you break
a story that a few weeks later everybody is on it.
That's because the black people know, we trust you first.
And I'm gonna end with this this Ukraine thing. You know,
as I'm listening, you know, tonight, and we're having this conversation,
one word keeps coming back. One word out of the
Wells used when she was writing about Lynch Law and
(02:22:53):
all its phases. Impunity. Impunity. Those kick those cops kicked
in that door with impunity. They did it because they
can get away with it. We have to stop them.
Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine because nobody stopped them in ten
when he took CRIMEA. You know what it looks like.
And people are starting to say this, but I'm gonna
(02:23:14):
end with this. As Gil Scott here and said in
his famous UH poem song Dot Dot did it dot
dot dash the ghetto code. Damned if I know? He says,
it's looking like Hitler in thirty eight? Did they move
to stop Hitler before it was too late? In nineteen
thirty eight, Adolf Hitler, head of the National Socialist Party
in Germany, said that Germans had a right to self
(02:23:37):
determination and any Germans living in Czechoslovakia, any Germans living
in Hungary had the right to be self determining. And
you know who didn't stop Hitler when he sent his
tanks into Czechoslovakia in nineteen thirty eight, the rest of Europe.
They called it the Lightning War, the Blitz create that's
what happens when you blitzer quarterback. It came from the
(02:23:57):
Blitz Creek, the Lightning War. And when they didn't stop
Hitler in thirty eight, you fast forward a couple of years,
that's World War Two. We are under verge. Now they
didn't stop putting. They're not gonna stop him now. This
is serious as business. But whether it's Putin in Ukraine
or these white boys in Pensacola impunity, the time to
(02:24:20):
stop a thing is right now. And when you're watching
Rolling Martin and feel it when you're watching the Black
Star Network. What you are watching is somebody who is
willing to stand up and say we can stop them.
We can be a community. We will do it. And
every time you say it, rolling a few more people
say you're right, you're right, and a few more people
say you're right, you're right, And now we reach critical masks,
(02:24:41):
and then we get another critical mass, and that's how
we get free. Folks. I want to I want to
show you what y'all did. When we started. We put
that go fund me up. It was nine hundred and
thirty five dollars, less than less than in less than
an hour. It's now ten thousand, six hundred and eighty
two dollars. Y'all did that? Please share it and spread it.
(02:25:04):
I'm gonna close this way. One of the reasons why
I asked y'all to support what we do, not just
for this and trust me, every dollar does count. And
Gregg City Win got it like that. When I was
in Liberia, the average person makes one dollar in fifty
cents a day. HM. The drivers that they hired to
(02:25:28):
take us around, we're paid twenty dollars a day. We
were responsible for overtime and tip, so when they calculated
it um they actually the two drivers actually I handed
(02:25:49):
them eight hundred dollars. I was a young brother, Alpha Jeremiah,
who was on our team. Jeremiah makes a hundred dollars
a week teaching kids how to play soccer. He played
soccer Dallas Bats University and the University of Houston. It
makes a hundred dollars a week teaching kids how to
play soccer. He's working six seven hours a day. When
(02:26:12):
we left Liberia, after eight days of work on our team,
he was paid two thousand dollars. He literally earned in
eight days what he would earn in almost twenty weeks
in Liberia. So what I need y'all to understand when
(02:26:32):
you support this show, we're placing the hands money back
in the hands of black people in America and also
in other parts. Because what I'm not going to do
is travel to Africa and then say I'm gonna give
you fifty dollars. No, I'm gonna pay you what's right
and what's fair, and so support us in what we do. Uh,
(02:26:54):
here's the here's how you can give the peel box.
We have it five seven one nine six Washington, d C.
Two zero zero three seven cash out dollar sign or
m unfiltered PayPal Are Martin unfiltered, then most are m unfiltered.
Zeal is rolling at Rolling Martin dot com, rolling that
Rolling Marktin unfilter dot com. We are building something and
(02:27:15):
let me be clear, it ain't gonna be gossa. It's
not gonna be mess I don't do reality people on
this show because somebody has got to speak truth to
the news and the issues that impact our people. Larry
Greg reesaid appreciate it. Thanks a lot, folks. I will
see you guys tomorrow right here on Rolling Martin Unfiltered.
(02:27:35):
Sorry for going long. There was not the plan today,
but those things happen. I'll see tomorrow
