Speaker 1 (00:03):
Ya well.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Being out from buckets, dry.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
I say.
Speaker 4 (00:16):
This is Behind the Flow, the podcast that dives deep,
week by week into the heart of San Diego SC's
first season in Major League Soccer. What a moment the
playoffs are here. In their very first year, San Diego
FC finished top of the West, and on Sunday night,
they wrote another page of history, a two to one
win over the Portland Timbers in front of a sellout
(00:38):
crowd of thirty two and a half thousand at Snapdragon Stadium.
Oniva Lacari scored the club's first ever playoff goal, and
There's Dryer double the lead and the roar from Snapdragon
carried them over the line. It was the perfect start
to a best of three series and the city felled
every second. It was a night that reminded everyone, this club,
(01:00):
of this crowd, this city, we are building something special.
In this episode, will relive that win and look ahead
to Game two in Portland. We're joined by Matt Boos
from the Riptites.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
They know we are there for them, that we will
do whatever it takes to continue to carry them forward,
to put them on our shoulders. This city deserves this championship.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
And Fronteazi for the fan in the stand viue, plus
a voice note from the Timbers camp to get the
opposition take The playoffs have begun and the flow goes on.
I'm Cata Gasna, Adrian Garcia Marquez.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
We miss you.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
He has some baseball duties because it's World Series time.
Welcome to behind the Flow. Great to have you back.
And as always, Darren Smith, you were there. We were
all at Snapdragon on Sunday night and what an atmosphere
over thirty two thousand fans, scarfs, tell Hi, the whole
place a sea of blue and chrome. The city was alive,
(02:05):
to say the least. Any standout memories for you, Darren.
Speaker 5 (02:09):
Of course.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
And Katya, I was going to say when we started
this podcast, Wow, Adrian sounds different after all these broadcasts
that he's had this week, from the NFL to the
World Series to the MLS Cup playoffs.
Speaker 5 (02:19):
Always great to be with you. You know, in San Diego,
it's a.
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Really special thing when you get a team in the
postseason for any of the sports because you can really
feel the electricity of the city, not just on the
day of the game, right, Katya, you remember this when
City Hall lights itself up in the colors of the team,
when you see the buildings in Balboa Park and you
see everybody rocking gear all throughout the week, like it's
a great thing to be a part of. So I
(02:44):
thought the energy couldn't have been any better. Driving into
Snapdragon Stadium in the parking lot, seeing the flags from
the tailgating, smelling the carne asada, it was an all timer.
It was a full sensory experience for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Smelling that carne asada, that's one of my favorite parts.
And then you just want to get invited to that
k But I love that bus around the city, seeing
the playoff signs on.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
The buses at the bus stops.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
Everybody was talking about it. I told my mom, like,
I'm going to San Diego. I'm going to be there
you guys because it's playoff time. And she's like, oh,
I know, I've been hearing it on the news. I've
been hearing it on the radio all over like the
city is invested, and I love to hear that of
how everybody is doing this collective effort to get the
news out to let the city know that this is
(03:29):
something important, that the team is here, and not only that,
but they're making history, and they were about to play
their first ever playoff game, which was very special, and
what made it even more impressive is the team handled
it all amidst some big headlines, including the news that
eaving Chukilosano was left out of the squad for now
and could miss the playoffs, even though Mike Evadas told
(03:51):
us after the game that if he continues in that
upward trajectory, being collaborative with the group and training the
way he has been doing, then he'd be available in Portland.
That could have been a distraction, but the focus and
togetherness out there said everything about this group and we're
extremely privileged to be joined by someone who helped make
(04:11):
that noise. So welcome Matt Booth from the Reptites and
frontea ze Matt, how are you? How magical was it
in the North End on Sunday night?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Oh thank you so much, Skatia and Darren for having me.
Really no words because it was just so electrifying.
Speaker 7 (04:29):
The crowd was toois.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
They knew they had to be loud and they had
to be going the whole ninety minutes.
Speaker 7 (04:39):
And boy they delivered.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
We were sold out in three thousand seats in our
section of front A SD and man, it was just magical, Matt.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Can I ask too, because I'm pretty rigid in my
match day routine.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
I get to the stadium usually with the same amount
of time. I'm a creature of habit, for better or
for worse. And then when I got there, usually the
supporters go in the same section as where I walk in,
And I don't remember seeing that many supporters lined up
for many of the previous matches. It's not just that
you guys sold out. Everybody was there early, like there
(05:14):
was a little extra pep in the staff, wasn't there
Because I said, what are all these people doing?
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Lined up?
Speaker 6 (05:19):
Usually I have this gate to myself when I'm walking
into Snapdragon Stadium, but I swear there were hundreds of
people that were just waiting to get into the supporter
section on the north end.
Speaker 7 (05:29):
So I'm a lagger.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I was helping clean up our tailgate shenanigans. But yeah,
we told everybody get in there extra early. You know,
make sure that you find your standing space because we
don't sit, and make sure you're ready.
Speaker 7 (05:47):
Get in there and get pumped.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Matt.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
You've talked before about how much work goes into the drums,
the chins, the flags and everything that you guys put together,
and Sunday definitely felt next level that Admosophe year was
so special. How did you and the crew race it
even higher for the playoffs and got everybody invested and
locked in same as the team.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Well, it's funny you asked that. I personally said, Okay,
here's our checklist. We've been doing this all year. We
got this like, here's some extra stuff that we're going
to throw into the mix of it. But really, uh,
it's always pure chaos. It's always pure chaos going into
the week and from the tifo, just having a little
hiccups here and there and stuff.
Speaker 7 (06:30):
We pulled it off.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
We'll get more into the details with Matt specifically about
the tifo, but on the pitch, it finished two one
to San Diego. I see a huge first playoff win
and an advantage heading into game two. Let's take a
listen to what happened at Snapdragon.
Speaker 8 (06:49):
It is poland who got us send away talking from
right to left.
Speaker 5 (06:55):
Okat call back for dry on his left foot, nice.
Speaker 8 (06:57):
To go tool to fop us about it safe part.
Speaker 9 (07:01):
Tavis got down quickly to the NYE Pilcher.
Speaker 7 (07:03):
Here that he's got in behind, pulls up a packet.
How it's ip targeted.
Speaker 8 (07:08):
A good save again, the nying Bombino getting forward from
left back Dryan towards that Nippos My fain challenging for it.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Do what the post and for.
Speaker 9 (07:20):
No flag goal Givin and Bala Carre for San Diego,
says first goal of the postseason.
Speaker 5 (07:28):
Lovely.
Speaker 8 (07:28):
They'll touch with the mass golf trying to play it
in behind Dryer once again, the flag stairs down. Simon
has to come across try it, trying to get it
back and said, oh.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Now the flag goes up.
Speaker 9 (07:39):
This time the A side flag is up.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
How the goal is this allowed? Tryer, Bombino cross buck In.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Try.
Speaker 7 (07:50):
I see you, Lenel Messi, how is it you to do?
I can do too.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Drys Course and.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
San Diego have doubled the lead.
Speaker 8 (08:00):
The run down the middle half, Velda helda coming back
on his right foot hand have a lifeline shut out.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
He's gonna go direct. Antony is in behind. Bompedo's gone down.
Speaker 9 (08:11):
Antony one a one Honey misses what shots.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
To pull a to droll.
Speaker 8 (08:17):
Levels fans Emmis lunches one forward head it there.
Speaker 9 (08:22):
Again Honey's gonna be the final whistle Sunday, I go
prying history.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
So that's how it sounded. It even better if you
were there in person. We can tell you that the
atmosphere honestly was amazing. San Diego c two Portland Timbers one.
So let's break it down as we listened to. Ba
Lacardi opened the scoring fittingly, the men who backed the
club's first ever goal back in March now at their
first ever playoff goal, reacting quikest after Manudua's shot came
(08:55):
off the post, and then and there's Dryer double the
lead with a diving Heather Balomita his twentieth of the season,
before Portland pulled one back through Christopher Velde. The Timbers
went down to ten minut in the sixty sixth minute
and San Diego saw it out with real control to
take a one mil lead in the best of three series. Darren,
from a tactical point of view, what stood out to
(09:17):
you the most about what the team did and their performance?
Speaker 6 (09:20):
I think the one thing one of the themes going
into the match that you pick up when you're around
the training ground is these guys were well aware that
they haven't had the home results that they have wanted.
Speaker 5 (09:30):
You know, they've wanted to reward the supporter.
Speaker 6 (09:32):
Section front Hata SD Matt in particular, so you know
they felt it. But have been ninety three days since
a home win. That's a long time. That's an eternity
in this sport.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
Portland. I thought looked like a team that did have
to play a.
Speaker 6 (09:44):
Really high stress match in the middle of the week
right to even qualify for the game, and I thought
SDFC just jumped them right from the gate and you
saw it. You saw lots of pressing, You saw high tempo,
tight lines, compact movement. They were getting to all the
second balls, just the quicker team. You could see it
with Yepe Goadoy dictating rhythm. They took the first shot
(10:05):
of the game. They took the first eight shots of
the game, so it felt like that goal was an
inevitability in the first half. And once that first one
went in, then you get the second one and you're thinking,
off to the races. We know they're going to be
a possession team. Eight hundred and fifty more completed passes.
They were dominant everywhere except for the score line where
it was two to one.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
And you're asking yourself, how is this only a one
goal game?
Speaker 4 (10:29):
I agree with you, and I even asked Luca Lettore
and the players like after the game of how massive
it was to make it count when it mattered. Because yes,
looking at that wider picture, it's an expansion team, and
we talk about what they've done and it's been an
amazing first year and they finished the top of the West.
But it's a clean sheet during the playoffs. It's a
whole new tournament. And sometimes in the past we've seen
(10:50):
that with expansion teams where they lack that experience how
to close out those games when it really matters. And
here you're facing April and Timbers team that has that experience,
that knows a lot about those games. And here it's
an opponent that you could potentially face four times in
a row and you know each other so well.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
And it's a little details.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
And even though they had an amazing first half, and
I agree, we expected more goals, so they could have
gotten more goals, but at the end of the day,
there's no goal differential. And I think that the most
important thing when we talk about this is the fact
that they were able to keep that win to close
out the game.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
And then just get ahead in the series.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
And I think that is what stands out to me,
is just like the attitude and how they were able
to carry over what we've seen throughout the year to this.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
First playoff win and this first playoff game.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
So, Matt from the spot in the north end, how
did it feel like take us through that moment, especially
during the goals, because the stadium erupted and it was
great to see.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
For some reason, the energy just start rising up in
the stands and I was like, Oh, something's happening. So
we look up to the JumboTron up to my left
and bam, I see the goal going and we just erupted,
like you guys described, you know, we just went in
(12:15):
saying on that first goal by none other than Vala Kare,
and it just feels like, oh my gosh, we're doing it.
We are doing exactly what we set out in Mikey,
we trust and we are going to crush this game.
You could just feel it from all the fans, all
the supporters in our section. We just go wild and
(12:36):
then true cadence, we come right back to chanting and
those chances to get louder and louder and louder, and
then of course the second goal with Dryer is just
so incredible because our MVP, he's just been the rock
for our team, for us in the stands the whole
season long. Everybody fell in love from this guy and
(13:00):
it was just so so magical see that diving header
go in and it was just electrifying.
Speaker 7 (13:08):
We knew in our hearts we have to fight.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
But we had it tell us a little bit about
what the energy was like after Portland goes down to
ten men and we're protecting a one goal lead late
in that match.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Yeah, Darren, as we have expressed to our crews that
when the other team scores, you get louder, like that
is our job in the section, Like as soon as
the other team scores, you know, you have that moment
of you know, heartbreak and just like what happened, you
(13:39):
watch for is ryver callback or anything like that, and
then you get right back into it and you go
ten times harder when those experiences happen.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
That is a great point because if you looked away
for whatever reason, you can't even tell that the other
team scored, because of course no one's going to celebrate
that goal, and you just want to keep pushing the guys.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Right absolutely, like I mean literally, we need to be
that twelfth man. We're solid, we're like stoic, and we
are going to win this game because this is playoffs.
There's no losing in playoffs. We've had conversations with Mikey,
We've had conversations with Yepe. They know we are there
(14:23):
for them, that they know that we will do whatever
it takes to continue to carry them forward, to put
them on our shoulders. This city deserves this championship and
we have the team to do it, and they know
they have the team to do it.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
We've talked about how it looked and felled from the
San Diego side, but what about the view from the
other bench? For mere timber Rod Wallace left this a
voice note, I.
Speaker 10 (14:47):
Can understand how you're feeling right now. You're excited, You're
you're buzzing right now. San Diego isc for you. It
can't get any better than this. Since you've been following
this team in the beginning to now, it must feel
incredible and congratulations. As soon as the first goal happened,
everything just went up in flames, and I as a
(15:07):
supporter of the game. I love to see that. I
love that energy. Now, mind you that I bleed the
Green and Gold. Okay, so I wasn't too pleased about
it from a fan perspective. From a football perspective, what
energy can really do? Snapfire Stadium fantastic. The way that
San Diego plays, I love it too. Now Portland never
(15:29):
backed down from that match, and that's the dangerous part
because now you're going to have to go to Providence
Park and you're going to have to replicate that same
energy and try to bring the best out of the
players that are already tired because Portland was playing away
from home.
Speaker 7 (15:44):
They've been there, they've done that.
Speaker 10 (15:45):
So for me, this is going to feel a little
bit different as the series moves to Portland at Providence Park.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Plenty more to go over there from Rod, from all
of us, we are going to take a quick break,
grab a breath, grab whatever you want, or if you're driving,
keep on focusing on the road, and when we come back,
we'll switch things up. We'll hear more from Matt about
life inside the rip Tides, the group that's been driving
the wall of noise at Snapdragon, and then we'll throw
(16:17):
a few quick fire questions his way to see how
his feeling about the season so far.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
So stay with us more behind the flow after this
(16:43):
welcome back. This is behind the flow and we're still busting.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
After that playoff win at Snapdragon in the first half,
we relived the game, heard the timbers take and soaked
in that electric atmosphere. We are joined once again by
Matt Boose, one of the driving forces find the Rip
Tights and part of Frontea is the collective uniting San
Diego supporter groups under one voice. Now, Matt actually did
(17:08):
something pretty special for us.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
He recorded an audio diary of the days leading up
to the game.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
So here it is, without further ado, a little piece
of San Diego's heartbeat Elkorasson as Adrian would say.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
So this is Matt's playoff diary.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
All right, you all, this is Matt Boose, buse Riptide's
supporter group President.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
It's eleven two on Friday night.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
Been a very long week getting two TFOs, two panels
for our TFO done on Saturday ourse.
Speaker 7 (17:46):
Wow, yes, it's been a long week.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
On Sunday, I don't know if you can hear in
the background open the door a little bit you can
hear my embroidery machine is running. We ended up going
over to Snapdragon and hoisted the color for the first time.
The tifo looks absolutely amazing, So congratulations to all those
that helped out with that, and you know, chi get
(18:08):
prepped Saturday night getting ready before the game. Today was
packed and filled of fun. But unfortunately part of the
tifo ripped on the top, so we had to bring
the tefos back to my garage slash office for some
embroidery work and we were able to.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
Hatch it all up. Took about half the day.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Little mini crew showed up and were able to repair them,
reinforce the tears, and basically cross our fingers for tomorrow
night to make sure that the tifo goes up and
looks absolutely gorgeous for the city and of course our team,
our boys, coach, coaching staff, everybody, to show them our
love and appreciation for everything they've done for us this year. Yeah,
(18:54):
not gonna lie a little nervous for the game tomorrow.
I trust our boys that they're going to get the
job done. But you know, always always a little bit
nervous going into the game.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
Okay, I don't know if you can hear me, but
we are here right before the game.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
I skipped the tailgate because it was so crazy, so
much fun, so much energy.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
The vibe is unreal.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
But I'm standing down here in front of the section
one thirty seven and we're about to have the opening
ceremonies and also raise our TFO that we worked so
hard for. It is electric here.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Everybody's anticipating just such a big win from SEFC, and
it's going to be an amazing game.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
We're here at halftime, the score is two to one.
The crowd is electric. I'm here standing on the Capito stand. Everybody,
everybody in front of us one thirty six, one thirty
seven is on it. They're killing it. They're loud if
they're making sure the team hears their voice. The team
definitely knows that we're behind them. They're doing great. Let's
go to San Diego.
Speaker 9 (20:04):
Here in the.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Parking lot trying to take it all in. We just
won two to one first playoff game. It was just electrifying.
It was absolutely insane.
Speaker 11 (20:12):
I was talking with Jerry or Liaison after the game
and Boa Tang called him over, gave him a big
hug and said that front taste was absolutely insane. They
felt every chance, every vibe, everything that we did for them. Yeah,
we're going all the way to the top.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
No words can.
Speaker 11 (20:30):
Describe how I feel, and I think the rest of
San Diego feels.
Speaker 7 (20:35):
We have a team that can definitely take it off.
So let's do it.
Speaker 11 (20:40):
Let's go a s CFC that signing out for this
first round playoffs weekend.
Speaker 4 (20:51):
Thank you Matt for that amazing diary and reliving everything
that happened that day. Let's talk about the tifo first
of all, I was amazing take us through those conversations
when you guys are trying to decide what tifo are
you going to work on for that particular game.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Yeah, so I can't take credit for that. George, he's
one of our local artists and amazing artists. In fact,
he is the designer of Fronteta's logo and crest and
everything like that. He's just been an amazing person all
the way through. So kudos and shout out to George.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
Well, Matt, I do want to say you are now
invited the same way I'm always invited to the Carnea Sada,
Adriana and I have a tradition at the end of
a broadcast where most people are cheersing some sort of
adult beverage. He and I go immediately to the throat
lozenges and you are now invited to our tradition because
you can hear the evolution of your voice from before
(21:47):
the match to after the match, so you are always
going to be part of that. For us, I think
the thing that really stands out. You know, the nerves
are part of it, right, but also just the event
status of a match. For a lot of people, a
sporting is before or after dinner every once in a while,
but just how much a part of your lives matches.
Speaker 5 (22:06):
There's so much more that goes into it that makes
a supporters group for.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Me, hours and hours of pre planning and making sure
that we have our whole team that's going to go
to our storage unit and pick up all the tents,
all the tables, and then we have another guy who
went did the costco run to go pick up all
the food, and so yeah, it's a huge team effort,
and of course you then have to make it all happen.
(22:31):
I would be remiss if I didn't mention, like all
the other supporter groups, how much effort they put into
the tailgate and just how incredible it is to see
everybody come together, drinking some beers, having some amazing food,
listening to great music, hugging, saying hey, we're gonna do
it today.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
What a big season it was for all of you.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
If somebody were listening and said, hey, next season, I
want to get involved, how do I join riptides?
Speaker 5 (22:58):
How do they do it?
Speaker 7 (22:59):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (22:59):
Yeah, no, it's it's super simple. Actually, all you have
to do is go to v th fronteta.
Speaker 7 (23:06):
Sd dot com and sign up for front Thatta.
Speaker 1 (23:11):
That's basically the gateway into making sure part of the community,
a part of the union. There's a drop down box
and you can go in affiliated, or you could join
one of seven supporter groups in front Thatta, Reptize being
one of them. We're very open group to all walks
of life. We welcome them all and we would love
to have any of the above people that just feel
(23:34):
the vibe. The only thing I ask is making sure
that you're about this, because it's it's a vibe. It's
an energy that we bring in and it's come with
your fun face on and on this show.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
We're big fans of the quick hits. No time to think,
just say the first thing that comes to mind.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Are you ready?
Speaker 7 (23:54):
I'm ready?
Speaker 4 (23:55):
Okay, good, because here we go, quick firetime. One Sung
player of the year.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Who would that be?
Speaker 7 (24:02):
Thali Carry?
Speaker 5 (24:03):
Good choice?
Speaker 6 (24:04):
Only player besides Anders who's played in every game. What
was your moment of the season.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
Against LAFC the team just clapping with us at.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
The end of the game.
Speaker 7 (24:11):
It's so amazing.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
At home or away?
Speaker 7 (24:13):
Oh, away away? Both were magical.
Speaker 4 (24:16):
Okay, so that'd be the opener against the Galaxy. Interesting.
What would your fan chant or celebration of the year be.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
I love the thunderclap. It's magical, especially now that the
whole stadium gets involved.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
I agree, Yeah, it's loud, very loud.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
We talk about unsung heroes on the pitch, and you've
mentioned a couple of names I think that are familiar
for us. Give us some unsung heroes off the pitch.
I mean volunteer Kappa, somebody who makes it all happen,
who keeps it all together.
Speaker 5 (24:48):
Who are the glue people for this club?
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Oh Man, Justin Brown, he put all the website, put
it basically everything behind the scenes together. But then Adrian
and Ollie, they are the drummers. Slash leaders of our
whole drum line. They are just absolutely fabulous and amazing
(25:10):
human beings.
Speaker 4 (25:11):
Drum Rolled wild Card Bonus question. Best moment inside Snapdragon
this season, on or off the pitch.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Just going to the tailgate is so magical having all
of our community together, hanging out together, having just a
great time.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
That to me is just magical because everyone is invited
to that.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
All right, Matt, you survive the quick fire around and
honestly that passion deserves a round of applaus from the
Capital stand.
Speaker 7 (25:42):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (25:44):
This is such a special treat to talk about all
the fronteta and riptides and just the magical season we've had.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Thank you, Matt.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
But don't go anywhere, because we're not quite done yet.
We still have to talk about what's coming against Portland.
All right, time to look ahead, because a flow rolled
(26:13):
north this weekend game two of the series. To give
us a view from the other side, We asked again
our friend Rod Wallace for another voice known his take
on how Portland regroup after that loss, what needs to
change for them, and what kind of atmosphere to expect
inside Providence Park.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Let's take a listen.
Speaker 10 (26:34):
What I love the most about this second matchup at
Providence Park is simple for me is the winner go
home mentality, and I think that Portland thrives under that
kind of environment. They thrive in that type of pressure.
Portland's going to come out more aggressive, They're going to
use the Timbers army to their advantage, and they're going
to try to deflate Sant Diego's momentum, their swagger, their
(26:59):
energy right now. Now, this winning spirit, this confidence that
they have about them, that's what Portland has to deflate.
This is a game that can be decided on set
pieces and it's not a bad thing. But tactically San
Diego knows that they can't fold and they can't change
the way that they're played. I would predict Portland Timbers
(27:21):
too in San Diego see zero. But that's just me
as a Portland Timbers diehard fan, an ex player, a champion,
and a player that just wants the best from an
organization that gave me many opportunities.
Speaker 7 (27:38):
Game two is ours, baby.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
So that's a voice from the cabin in the woods. No,
not the horror story.
Speaker 4 (27:50):
We're hoping it's not a horror story, even though we're
in Halloween season. Always good to hear the Portland side
of things. It's their on the line here, so looking ahead.
What's your read on this one, Darren? What does San
Diego need to do to finish the job up there?
Speaker 6 (28:09):
Well, it's interesting right that he brings upset pieces given
at the first shot of the match came off a
set piece, came off a really nifty play on a
corner kick, and then the goal, the first goal came
on a set piece, So it's something I think SDFC
worked on.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
In the week leading up to the match.
Speaker 6 (28:24):
Obviously they're facing elimination, so I ain't going to be easy.
I wouldn't say that at all, not going to be
a four Niel rob but I do think there will
be a late winner there for SDFC. And wouldn't it
be quite a story if Chucky Lozano comes off the
bench and as SDFC has done so many times this year,
ten times they've scored ninetieth minute or later, if Chucky
Lozano puts in the goal that puts SDFC through to
(28:48):
the second round.
Speaker 5 (28:48):
Let's go with that one.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
I like that and Matt Providence Park is always allowed
always a little bit wild. They were just there on
decision day. But what are you expecting from the Timbers
fans anything different? And what are as EFC fans gonna
do back home? Anyone that wants to join the watch
parties and be ready to cheer on from San Diego.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Fortunately, I've made a lot of friends over there in
Timbers Army. They're gonna bring it.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
But this is the story of our season, is we
travel so well.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
They're gonna take it all the way and they're just
gonna bring their a game and this can be incredible.
But in the meantime, I unfortunately can't travel, but I
will be over at Hopnonymous, our sponsored brewery, for our
away game watch parties, and we're actually having eighteenth Battalion.
They're coming over and USG one eight so we're all
(29:38):
gonna be hanging out one thirty seven style and anybody
and everybody is welcome.
Speaker 7 (29:43):
We come on over to Hop Anonymous and watch the
game with us.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
We're gonna have a great time and cheering on our
boys and sending those vibes all the way north to
make sure they clinch that first round second game.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
We've heard the analysis, now you know what time it is.
We love the predictions on this show. So let's close
out this box with some fearless bold forecasts.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Prediction time, Darren, what do you think the score will be?
Speaker 6 (30:14):
I'm going to say repeat from the first one, two
to one final late winner again. I just love how
SDFC always plays to the final whistle, all the late
dramatic goals, and I think we're going to get another
one here, late winner to push SDFC.
Speaker 5 (30:27):
Three to the second round, two one final.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Matt, I don't predict because every time I predicted this
season we lost, but I do know we will win.
Speaker 7 (30:38):
We will win this That's my prediction.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Okay, So since I'm keeping on trend with the Halloween
and Darren mentioned it before, some chucky traves like crazy
Chuky Muneko. I want to see goals though, and I
think because of a s EFC style of play, as
Rod mentioned as well, they're going to stay true to
(31:02):
who they are.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
They play well on the road.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
I think we're going to see goals. Portland is going
to go all out because they have to. So I'm
going to go with the three to two as EFC
because in the end it will favor as EFC to
clinch their spot in the next round. So however it
plays out, it's going to be a huge night in
Portland in downtown San Diego as well. And that brings
(31:26):
us sadly to the end of the first of our
playoff shows, but.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
What a start that was. A big thank you to
Matt for joining us and sharing the view from this stands.
Speaker 7 (31:37):
Got thea darrenn and of course Adrian that's not here.
Speaker 1 (31:40):
Thank you guys for having me on, and thank you
guys so much for bringing this report, this podcast, this energy,
this whole year.
Speaker 7 (31:49):
We're so in love with it and we can't thank
you enough.
Speaker 6 (31:52):
And Matt, I don't know if the producers told you,
but the compensation for appearing on the podcast is we
will have lozenges delivered right there to your door so
you can be prepared for what still to come, because
we got more playoff action.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
Baby.
Speaker 7 (32:04):
Yes, we're going all the way to the top.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
I expect that I will have zero voice by the
end of the season on the December sixth, when we
win it all, but I will definitely take those thank
you so much.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
Daring because if someone knows how to preserve the voice
as Darren Smith, and of course AGM and Now all
eyes turned to Providence Park for Game two as San
Diego FC look to finish the job against the Timbers.
Thanks as always to Darren Agm who is in a
World Series duty, but I know he's listening to all
(32:37):
our production team, which is amazing, And to you of
course for listening and helping us make this happen. So
make sure to follow behind the flow wherever you get
your podcast. Don't miss a moment of the playoffs. Whatever
happens next week, San Diego, You've already made your city proud.
The playoffs have begun and the flow goes on. I'm
(32:58):
Katia Gastaden and this has been behind the floor
