Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Santa Cast, a production of I Heart Radio.
Come in, Hi, snowboy Santa. What can I do for
my favorite elf? Well, Santa, I just wanted to let
you know on our podcast has really taken off and
the belief a meter is way up. Really. Yeah, there's

(00:22):
kids waiting to hear from you because of the podcast.
I just wanted to let you know we're making a difference. Wow. Great, great,
that's wonderful. When do we do the next one? Well,
we're actually scheduled to start a little while ago. Actually, well,
well what are we waiting for? Let's go. Well, hello there,
welcome back to the Official Santa Cast. You know, Santa

(00:45):
and his Elves joined the world of podcasting in an
attempt to spread Christmas cheer, because without Christmas cheer, his
slade just won't get off the ground. Let's fly back
to the North Pole for an update on Santa, his
Elves and their new fangled jingle jangle technology at the
North Pole. Hey, I didn't think you were coming back.
Of course I'm back. We're doing this this cast potting

(01:07):
thing right Yeah, but let's do dive right in. There's
so much left to do before Christmas, and we can't
Delhi Dali. Yeah, indeed, Santa. I thought we would start
today with a question. I want to know, were you
around at the very first Christmas? M good question. Um, No,
I've been around a long time, but I haven't been
around that long. But some of the traditions from that

(01:29):
first Christmas endoor, the match I gave gifts, we still
do that. Yes, some families still put a star on
top of their Christmas tree to symbolize the star that
the magi followed. That's right, And I would like to
think that the feeling of hope and magic from that
first Christmas, well, that it can still be felt today.
Only one way to find out. Let's make some calls.

(01:50):
It's episode four for calling birds Hell. Hello, this is
Evergreen the Elf calling from the North Pole. I was
hoping to speak with Freddie Rose. Hi, I'm Snowball the
elp here to talk to Anderson and Amilia. Hello, I'm
looking for Stephen and Mary. I have Santa Claus standing

(02:10):
by here. Would that be okay? Okay? I am putting
Santa Claus on the line. Hello. Thank you so much
for spending some time with me on the phone today.
I'm so glad to get to talk with you. Happy
Christmas to you little friends THEO Are you with me? Good? Listen,

(02:31):
it's not just me here. This is Santa, but I
also have my friends here as well. Two of my elves.
I'm ever Green, the Old Hi, and I'm Snowball. Greetings
from the North Pole. Hi, guys, it's very cold up
here now. We're working very hard here in our elf
workshop to build toys to deliver this Christmas. We wanted
to ask you some questions. So tell me what you're

(02:54):
excited about this Christmas? About you coming to our house
to give us presents at night? Oh? Me too? What
else would be my first? My first Christmas with my
baby sister Aria? Absolutely if I actually starting about everything,
Jesus's birthday and family and friends, you and Christmas? Please?

(03:18):
Got a new Christmas tree? Oh? Very nice? What does
it look like? Pointing our first real train? How does
it smell? Can you tell me about some of the
traditions that you and your family have? How did your
family celebrate the holidays? Well by baking gingerbread? Houses, bake

(03:39):
cookies and leave up the lane dare. Oh that's the
love that What kind of cookies are you leaving I'm
gonna have one right now, if you don't mind, I'm

(04:01):
gonna just have a little to wash that down. Every
day on Fantom, those people with houses cookies waving out
for not everybody, elboys, quickness, that's true. What what do
some people celebrate besides Christmas? Nica? That's right. So there's

(04:27):
a lot of different traditions out there for the holidays. Huh, Jonah.
I also know that you celebrate one of my favorite
holidays as well, Hanukkah? Is that right? Yes? We also
made a Minora Oh those are so beautiful. I love Minora's.
Let's let me ask you a couple of questions. Tell

(04:48):
me Roman, how do you think I get down your
chimney land on the roof? I do I do? How
do I get my jolly old belly down that chimney? Though?
Not it's Chris go, that's the secret. It's true. I
use banks and a whole lot of butter. Some of
it's Christmas magic, some of it's just the things that

(05:10):
you can find in your kitchen. And I have a
quick question here though. I know they're really excited for
you to be there, and they're gonna set out cookies.
They don't have a chimney, and I'm sort of curious
how they think you are going to get into, deliver
presents and eat those cookies. That's a good question. How
do you think I'm going to get inside? Is past? You? Can? You?

(05:40):
You get in now? Listen, nobody's supposed to know about that. Okay,
I watch the watch, but listen. If you tell anybody
about that, they're gonna know my secret. If you could
have one Christmas wish, maybe for the whole world, what

(06:03):
would it be. I think it would be that everybody
can get their presence um at Christmas night the water,
make more treats, to spend time a friend and family,
to share kindness to all the people are All I

(06:23):
want for Christmas is for my friends to have the
best Christmas that they can have in their lives. For
Christmas morning, Christmas Day, every day, the lines for Christmas.
That's all I can wish from my friends. You have
such a sweetheart. That's what keeps you on the nice
list year after year. Listen, we have to go, but
I have had such a great time talking with you.

(06:45):
You have a merry Christmas. Okay, you can you know
all I want for Christmas is you. Oh, I love you,
little friends. Have a merry Christmas. Bye bye. That's the stuff.
Were great, santacast thing it's working. I really think it's

(07:09):
taking off like blitz In on Christmas Eve. Oh that
was a good one, Snowball. No. Yes, I'm feeling very good,
feeling much more gonefidentent. I feel a warm and fuzzy
how about you? You know, on our last episode we
asked you to do your part by spreading kindness to
people you know. Something must be working because not only
is the belief of meter going up, but the podcast

(07:30):
is really taking off two and soon Santa and his
reindeer will take flight as well. Keep spreading that holiday chere.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
