Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hi. I am Kate Hudson and my name is Oliver Hudson.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
We wanted to do something that highlighted our.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Relationship and what it's like to be siblings. We are
a sibling Railvalry.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
No, no, sibling, don't do that with your mouth, revelry.
That's good.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
I still got to come up with a name for
this ship. I don't know, because we're adding a little
little segment it's Oliver's Rants or I don't know. I
got to come up with like a cool name and
then I can do like a cool sound effect like
maybe not that, but you know what I mean, something
(01:00):
like I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
what the name is. You know what write in? Someone
write in a name like Hudson's Hookah where I just
smoke a hookah and talk about shit coming up with
great ideas. Anyway, I'm in Toronto, Canada. Got in last
(01:25):
night starting a Netflix movie with Alicia Silverstone, which I'm
very excited about. Share Friends. My daughter was actually share
for Halloween two years ago. We flew on the plane together.
She's awesome. My son, Wilder Hudson, is in the movie
with me. Now, before you start screaming nepotism and blah
(01:49):
blah blah. Yes, of course there's fucking nepotism. Nepotism exists
across all occupations. So before we get into nepotism, which
maybe rant today, I don't even fucking know because my
answer just rants. I don't know what I'm gonna even
talk about. But he auditioned five and a half times.
The half was a story that I won't tell. But anyway,
(02:12):
how did he get approved by Netflix? He did it
on his own. Now did he get a foot in
the door. Of course he did. That's how it works.
But as an actor, no one's gonna hire you just
because you have to show merit. You have to show
that you can do the gig. He's never done anything before,
and he's here with me right now. He got the gig.
(02:33):
It's an incredibly special moment for me and my son.
You know, six weeks together in Toronto, living together. It's
only been one night, and I had a vision. Okay,
I had a vision and it still might come true
that we were going to cook together and laugh and
(02:55):
go over lines and watch movies. And you know, it's
almost a montage in my head of this music playing
and us frolicking around and bonding and holding hands and
shopping and getting to know each other as father and son,
my seventeen year old. And then we get here and
he goes to his room and you know, he's in
(03:17):
his room like he is in la and I'm just like, yeah,
you want to come down watch a movie? Like I've
got this cool room with a fireplace and a cool TV.
I'm like, let's watch a movie. No good, No good?
And then is this what it's going to be? Like?
I need this montage to come to life. I honestly
(03:38):
thought he was gonna like maybe regress back to ten
and like cuddle with me in my bed. I was wrong,
But we're still time. We just got here. There's still time,
and maybe I'll just force him to But anyway, it's
an amazing experience. I'm looking forward to it like tremendously.
(04:02):
He's got a big ass part. I'm more nervous, I think,
than he is. He's never done this before, but he
just killed it. He gave an amazing audition. He's very natural,
very green, meaning like he's never done it. So either
way it's going to it's going to be a bucket list.
(04:23):
It's a already it's going to be a memorable thing,
and and I'm looking for it. I cannot I cannot wait.
As far as the nepotism things go, you know, it
just feels like, I know, this is sort of an
old news in a way. There's remember, there's a whole
like a nepotism sort of thang, like a year ago
nepo baby, the neo baby. For some reason, it's always
(04:45):
attributed to Hollywood, and I get it, it's the most visible,
but it's like, oh, nepotism in Hollywood. Yeah, but it's
fucking everywhere. If your parents own a law firm, if
they work in steam, if they do whatever it is
that they do, and you have a leg up in
that business if you want it. In fact, I would
(05:08):
argue that it's probably easier to insert your child into
a position of a company that they might not deserve
because of nepotism, rather than in Hollywood, where yeah, you
can get your foot in the door. There's no doubt
about that. I'm not denying that. You know, I got
him an audition because I'm in it. At the end
(05:30):
of the day, there is no studio, there is no
network that is going to hire someone who sucks. It
doesn't benefit them in any way, you know, just to
appease me or Kate or any huge movie store. They
have to be good, you know. So it is what
(05:52):
it is. Nepotism is what it is. Everyone, everyone you know,
who has a parent in a certain business can experience
that if you want to get into that business. That's
just the way it is. But Hollywood has sort of
been you know, it's been picked on, I guess just
because it's the most difficult. Yeah, And you know, I'm
(06:14):
sure there's a ton of you know, people who have
gotten the leg up who just couldn't cut it. Now
they're no longer in that business. That's the way it goes.
I mean, if you look at the actors of you know,
the children of actors or the children of directors or
writers who we know, they you know, they made it,
(06:39):
and they're all they're all good. They're all good actors.
No one sucks except for me. I don't suck. I
could be better, let's just put it that way. I
could be better. But I think in my fifties it's
all going to come together. Man. My production company is
(07:01):
titled slow Burn, Slow Burn, productions because I feel like
a slow burn, like that's kind of how I am.
And I feel like in my fifties, I'm kind of
finally coming into my own. Shit. It took me a
while to gain my confidence fifty years. And you know,
(07:22):
when I am eighties, when I am eighty seven, I'm
going to be huge when I am eighty seven, and
once I get into my nineties, it's gonna be my time.
I think that's gonna be my time. Anyway, I gotta
get out of here. I am heading to set for
(07:44):
the first time with Wilder, to go through the steps
in the processes. That's not a word now, you know,
if you want to hear the journey, I will be
more than happy to sort of come back on every
once in a while and give you updates on the
journey of this father son moment good and bad. I
(08:05):
need to know, though, because I don't want to bore anyone.
So if you want to do you want the journey,
you email, text, DM smoke signal at Western Union, whatever,
and if the consensus is yes, and I might give
a little, uh, you know, little diary, little audio diary
(08:27):
of how it's going up here. Anyway, I love everyone
and figure out a name for this. Oliver's Rans Hudson Hoka.
You know, I don't know. Oliver Hudson talks ship all right. Peace,
