Jaylen Brown was masterful tonight, scoring 42 points on only 24 shots, but the Celtics needed other players to deliver in the clutch to help push them past yet another top East opponent. Jordan Walsh, Josh Minott and Hugo Gonzalez were there to deliver, and as a result, the Celtics have now won six of their last seven games against top-six seeds in the Eastern Conference.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Sound Off with Me Bolts on another night and another
major win for the Celtics against one of the top
teams in the Eastern Conference. Listen. The Celtics have now
played nine games against top six seeds in the East.
They are now six and three on the season, including

(00:27):
six and one in their last seven. There is no
question about it that the Celtics are now playing like
one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and
the results show it. They've now beaten Detroit, the number
one team in the East. They've now beaten the Knicks,
the number two seed in the East. They've now beaten
the Magic twice. They've beaten the Calves twice. Those are

(00:50):
the numbers five and six seeds in the East. The
Celtics are rolling and they are taking down the other
top opponents in the Eastern Conference. This is the SoundOff
Postgame podcast presented by Exfinity Mobile. I appreciate you tuning
in and giving us a listen on your favorite podcast platform. Now.
Tonight was another fun one. This game felt like it

(01:12):
had everything in it and we're going to talk about
some of it right now. Let's concentrate on first and
foremost three players who really stood out from this game
in terms of the impact that they made on this one.
We've got to start it listening. I know Jalen Brown
scored forty two, but I've got to start out with
Jordan Walsh. Like two straight Jordan Walsh games where Jordan

(01:34):
Walsh has proven that he can change the game all
on his own. He did it in Cleveland with his defense,
with his scoring, with his rebounding, and he did it
tonight during the fourth quarter during the most important stretch
of the game. He did it with effort, he did
it with energy, he did it with just going all
out and giving the Celtics exactly what they needed in

(01:58):
order to grab this win. He did not play at
all during the second quarter of this game, So just
think about the journey that he went on throughout this game. First,
it's the first quarter, right he starts, he's been starting
for the past couple of weeks the Celtics and him
just not playing well out of the gates. Then he
doesn't play at all during the second quarter. Then you

(02:21):
fast forward to the fourth quarter and this guy is
making every critical play that the Celtics need in order
to win this game. I mean, we're talking about rebounds, steals,
put back layups like he deserves a game ball after
this contest for what you're seeing on this video right
now and what he gave to the Celtics when they

(02:42):
needed it most. Jordan Walsh played six plus minutes during
the fourth quarter. He was a plus one during the
fourth quarter in terms of plus minus. Do you want
to know how significant that is. He's the only member
of the Celtics team who had a positive plus minus

(03:03):
during the fourth quarter. The only one. Not Jlen Brown,
not Derek White, not Peyton Pritchard, no one else. It
was Jordan Walsh because he's the guy who made the
most important plays of the game and pushed the Celtics
in the direction that they needed to grab this win.
Just another incredible performance from a guy whose confidence is

(03:25):
just growing and growing. As every night, in every game
and every practice wears on, he's heading in the right
direction that I think even a few weeks ago, not
many people saw it coming. Like he has just totally
emerged as an important piece of the future of the Celtics,
when just a few weeks ago that certainly was not

(03:47):
the case. So props to him for sticking through it.
Props to him for answering the call. Props to him
for earning this role on this team, and you gotta
get props for him willing the Celtics to wins in
the last two games against two of the top seeds
in the Eastern Conference Cleveland on Sunday and tonight against

(04:09):
the New York Knicks. Jordan walsh Man, I love what
I'm seeing out of your game. Now. We touched on
this Jaylen Brown. I mean, can you believe what you're
seeing out of this guy? Forty two points during this
game scored. I believe it was thirty three of them
during the second and third quarters combined multiple fifteen point quarters.

(04:32):
He's now tied with Donovan Mitchell for the most fifteen
point quarters in the NBA this season, with nine of them. Tonight,
he notched his eleventh thirty point game of the season,
his third forty point game of the season. He was
dominant and during that second and third quarter like he

(04:53):
was literally unstoppable. It didn't matter who the New York
Knicks put on him to defend him, didn't matter what
they tried to do to slow him down. They couldn't
stop him. Like in some of the shots that he
was made, like, yeah, he got some easy ones as
you're seeing here, but some of these shots that he
made were ridiculous, so difficult. I mean the one we're

(05:15):
trying to draw followed, that's the only reason he puts
the shot up and he puts it home. The isolation
on Mitchell, like, come on, or we're talking about one
of the best players in the NBA right now. And
I said this before the game, Sean Granny and I

(05:36):
had a pregame show that you can still watch on
x Facebook or YouTube live. I said, Jalen Brown entering
this game was top eight in the MVP conversation. To me,
there's no doubt about it. He was top eight. Now
he might have jumped a couple of people with this performance,
namely one of them that was on the other side

(05:57):
of the ball in Jalen Brunson. Jalen Brown was the
best player on the court by far during this game,
making another statement in a season that has been full
of statements for Jalen Brown. He just continues to play
at an all NBA, all world level. Tonight he was unstoppable. Now,

(06:20):
one other player that we got to touch on is
Ugo Gonzalez, as I mentioned during the second quarter, Jordan
Walsh did not play. Basically, he played twenty two seconds.
Why is that the case, because Ugo Gonzalez checked in
and changed the game for the Celtics. He played the
entire second quarter for Boston. Joe Mizula couldn't take him

(06:40):
out during that second quarter. Gonzalez was a plus seventeen
during his twelve minutes of action, playing the entire frame,
and very similar to what Jordan Walsh did during the
fourth quarter. Ugo Gonzalez was doing it throughout the second quarter.
It was hustle plays, it was defense, it was being
in the right place at the right time. And so

(07:04):
we're seeing a little bit of a trend here, and
I've talked about it ad nauseum on this podcast after
games this season, but we're seeing a trend here where
there are just multiple guys who are gonna step up
every night. You never know who it's gonna be, but
you know it's gonna happen. The Celtics are building that
type of DNA and it's such an enjoyable experience to

(07:26):
be able to watch this team led by Jalen Brown playing,
as I said, at an all world level. To watch
him carrying the load, but then to watch other guys
step up every single night. This is a night in
and night out situation that's unfolding for the Boston Celtics. Tonight,
the other guys that stepped up were Jordana Walsh, Ugo Gonzalez,

(07:48):
and then for moments, Josh may Not. Those guys played
critical roles in the Celtics grabbing yet another win against
one of the best teams in the NBA and certainly
in the Eastern Conference. So we just continued to see
different elements stepping up on different nights, and all of

(08:08):
those elements coming together, cheering each other on and really
building what we call a team. This group is a team,
and they support each other and they know that on
any given night, it could be anyone on the roster
who steps up and gives the Celtics exactly what they

(08:30):
need to grab a win. Jalen Brown's been doing it
all year, and then tonight, Ugo Gonzalez, Josh may Not
and Jordan Walsh step up and deliver the goods exactly
when the Boston Celtics needed it. All Right, what else
stood out from this game? Let's talk about the fact
that we mentioned this earlier. But this game did not

(08:52):
start out very well for the Celtics. They looked discombobulated,
like they just didn't seem to have their rhythm, their energy,
their effort level to them, even the way that their
brains were interpreting what was happening in front of them.
We saw five turnovers out of the Celtics during the
first quarter alone. You want to know how many they
committed over the final three quarters in total. Five that's right,

(09:15):
five during the first quarter and then five the entire
rest of the game. So during that first frame, the
Celtics just didn't have it, but somehow they were able
to go into the break and turn things around. And
that's the marker of a really good basketball team when
you don't have it for a long stretch, especially to

(09:36):
start a game. And New York did have it, by
the way, Like the Knicks came out, got to give
them credit for the way they played during the first quarter.
They came out looking like this was a playoff game.
And so the Celtics take a couple punches, a couple
big punches during that first quarter, and for a team
to be able to then take a step back, regroup

(09:56):
and reassert themselves and get on the right foot, straighten
out the ship, and get things headed back in the
right direction. Like that is the marker of a really
good basketball team that shows not only skill and togetherness,
but it also shows like mental wherewithal to be able
to keep it together and bounce back from that. It's

(10:19):
a little bit surprising that we're seeing this from this
team because so many guys are new on this roster,
number one and number two, playing totally different roles than
they probably ever have in their lives. So just again,
another really fun game to watch the Celtics come together
and do this, not only those other guys stepping up
and delivering exceptional performances, but also the team coming together

(10:43):
and figuring out a way to bounce back from what
was an ugly start to this team to start to
this game. So props to the Celtics on what they
were able to pull off tonight. All right, a couple
comments from our fans tonight. First up, we've got Brian
on what led to the Celtics winning this game, and
then we've got Steven Dick Junior who has a bold

(11:03):
prediction about later this week. Stay tuned to hear that
all right, Brian, you're up first. I think here put
your mobile bill in half and saved sixty five dollars
a month for your first year with Expinity Mobile. All right,

(11:26):
Brian's comment tonight after this win is gritty win. The
Seas started off like an older car, slow to start,
took time to get warm, but once it's going, it goes.
The Knicks did what you expect. They punched back. The
Seas took the punches and held onto the rope. Let's
start out with the end of this comment about the

(11:47):
Knicks punching back, and they did that during the fourth quarter.
Like this game easily could have slipped away. And as
we've talked about, Jorda Walsh is a huge reason why
it did not slip away. He was making every play
of the Boston Celtics needed, from rebounds to defense to scoring.
Not something we've come to know Jordan Walsh to do.

(12:09):
He was scoring during the fourth quarter for the Celtics.
But the Knicks did punch back, and they easily could
have won this game. But it was a Celtics who
came together and made the game winning plays. And I
just mentioned a couple moments ago about the way the
Celtics bounced back from the first quarter when they were
playing underwhelming basketball. Well, let's fast forward and talk about

(12:32):
how they responded to the fourth quarter when things weren't
always going well. New York, the number two team in
the East, has been red hot, all of their guys
playing well. Obviously they didn't have Anonobe tonight, but they
started to find their rhythm during the fourth quarter. They
cut a fifteen point definsit down to three in less

(12:52):
than two minutes. And that's a moment where things are
a little shaky. You're not standing on solid ground. If
you're the Boston Celtics, easily fallen over. But instead of
falling over, they found solid ground. They did it as
a team. They did it as a unit. Joe Missoula
spoke about this after the game. With those plays that

(13:13):
Josh might not made, the clutch three from the right corner,
all the plays that Jordan Walsh made, a lot of
those came off of trust from guys like Jalen Brown.
Jalen Brown was double team. They got the ball out
of his hands and he trusted his teammates to make
plays and they did it. So not only did the
Celtics respond during the first quarter after they didn't play well.

(13:36):
They responded during the fourth quarter when the Knicks started
to punch back, and again you're playing against a really
good team, the number two team in the East. This
easily could have gone in the wrong direction, but it
didn't because the Celtics banded together and they found a
way to make all of the winning plays that they
needed to make. This shows a lot one of the

(13:59):
first The first word of this post by Brian gritty
gritty win. This was a gritty win because it required
the Celtics to bounce back from multiple tough stretches of
the game. It required them to win not just by
having Jalen Brown, who was otherworldly tonight, carry them into
the winner circle. They needed other guys and they got it.

(14:23):
And that's what's fun. And the Seeds, as Brian says,
they did start off like an older car, slow to start,
took time to get warm, but once it's going, it goes.
That happened tonight. It's fun to see when when they
can kind of shake off that rust in the middle
of a game and catch their rhythm at both ends
at the court. They were locked down defense for a while,
a good stretch of that game against against the Knicks

(14:44):
tonight a high powered offense. The Knicks entered this game
as a number three offense in the league, and the
Celtics really they slowed them down for a good chunk
of the game, all while figuring out for themselves at
the offensive end of the court. So great comment by
Brian as always couldn't agree more. A lot of fun
to watch the Celtics be able to take those punches

(15:05):
and figure out a way to polish off this win.
All right. Second and final comment of the night coming
in from Steven Dick Junior, who says, is it Friday yet?
JB dropping forty on Luca? All right, let's not fast
forward too far. Okay, we know there's another big game
coming Friday night, the Purple and Gold Lakers with Luca

(15:29):
and Lebron are coming to town, but we've got another
one before that. The Boston Celtics have business to take
care of down in Washington on Thursday night, and if
they want to prime themselves for a great opportunity on
Friday to take down that vaunted Lakers team with two
future Hall of Famers leading the way along with by

(15:51):
the way, Austin Reeves, who is playing unquestionably at an
all star level right now. Celtics got to take care
of business, and they gotta do it early on Thursday.
They got to try to take it to the Washington Wizards.
Try to build a huge lead to try to get
the Celtics some rest, get those main players some rest,

(16:12):
and allow them to come back on Friday with a
little bit fresher legs. That's gonna be I believe, the
fifth game in seven nights for the Celtics, if I'm
remembering correctly, this is a tough stretch on Friday I'm
talking about for the Celtics. They just played the third
game in four nights. They got one off, then they

(16:33):
got a couple more on Thursday and Friday. So this
is gonna be a lot of fun to watch. But
the Celtics, let's not think about Friday just yet. They
gotta take care of business down in Washington against a
Wizards team that just has not been playing at a
very high level the season. Prime opportunity for the Seas
to take care of business. Try to put that team

(16:54):
away early and try to get the team some rest
before that second night of a back to back against
that Lakers team. Listen. We talked about this about a
week and a half ago, all right, We knew this
stretch was going to be tough on the Celtics. Listen,
Listen to the stretch. Magic Pistons, Timberwolves, Calves, Knicks, Washington, Lakers, Raptors, Milwaukee, Detroit, Miami, Toronto.

(17:22):
This is a hell of a stretch for the Celtics
so far. They've come out of it in a very
strong position. Four and one in the stretch so far.
In the one game that they lost in Minnesota, they
could have won that game. So Celtics continuing to play
great basketball, not only individually with guys like Jalen Brown

(17:42):
leading the way at a superstar level, but so many
other guys stepping up on a nightly basis. I can't
wait to see what happens the rest of this week, folks,
make sure you tune in for another episode of sound
Off presented by Xfinity Mobile. On Thursday night, we'll have
that from the away game that will be podcast asked only,
and then on Friday we'll be back with a video

(18:03):
version on YouTube and an audio version on your favorite
podcast platform. Make sure you check out my post on
X after the final buzzer of every game this season.
Send in your thoughts about what just happened on the court,
and I'll pull a couple of them into our episodes
of sound Off. All right, we're off until Thursday. We'll
see you after that game down against the Washington Wiz
