Speaker 1 (00:06):
Sound off with me, folks on another sixty win season for.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
The Boston Celtics.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
They have the most sixty win seasons in the history
of the NBA, and this one extended their lead over
the second place Los Angeles Lakers to four. Now the
Celtics have fifteen sixty win seasons in their history and
the Los Angeles Lakers they're stuck at eleven. So just
another example of how the Boston Celtics, not the Lakers,
(00:37):
are the most storied franchise in the.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
History of this league.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Now, listen, the Celtics got to sixty wins tonight in
a beautiful final tune up for the NBA playoffs. And no,
this was not the last game of the season for
the Celtics, I admit that, but I do believe that
this was the last game of the season for most,
if not all, of the rotational players for the Celtics.
(01:04):
The Celtics played everyone tonight, with the exception of Jalen Brown,
who's out resting that knee making sure that he's gonna
be good for the playoffs. Everyone else played and they
played pretty decent minutes. I mean, Jason Tatum thirty two minutes,
Al Horford almost twenty eight minutes. Christas Porzingis is the
only guy who played fewer than twenty Out of the
(01:24):
main players, he played eighteen. We're gonna have an update
on him later. We got a question coming from the
fans about that. Derek White over thirty four minutes, Drew
Holliday twenty six minutes, and then Peyton Pritchard and Sam
Hauser each with about twenty two off the bench. So
everyone played pretty close to their main minutes, and Jason
Tatum usually around thirty six thirty seven. Tonight thirty two,
(01:46):
these guys played their main minutes. Joe Missoula wanted to
use this game as their tune up for what's to
come starting next weekend in the NBA Playoffs, and the
Celtics ace that test with flying Colors. Now that being said,
this thing didn't start out perfectly for the Boston Celtics.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
The first half was a little bit ugly. You know.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
We saw Jason Tatum and Derek White come out of
the locker room.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
They switched their outfits.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
For the night, so Derek White was wearing the armband
with the one sleeve on his leg. Jason Tatum was
wearing both sleeves on his leg, which is usually Derek
White's look.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
And that kind of maybe gave an idea that.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Maybe the Celtics weren't taking this game exactly perfectly seriously
as we normally see. And it kind of looked like
that for the start of the game. They just weren't
as locked in as we're all used to seeing. But
by the end of the night, the team totally rebounded
and wound up having one of its most impressive blowout
wins of the season. They wind up winning by thirty
(02:45):
six points. They were up by only one at halftime,
so do the mat there. They added thirty five points
to their lead during the second half. Now, let's go
over some numbers of what happened during this game. The
Celtics flipped the switch heading into the third quarter, and
they outscored Charlotte seventy six to thirty one over the
final two quarters. Excuse me, seventy six to forty one
(03:08):
over the final two quarters. As I said, that's a
thirty five point advantage. It all came down to catch
in the rhythm and wind, and they wound up locking
up the Hornets at the other end of the court.
So two way game from the Celtics, especially during the
second half.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Think of these numbers.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
In the first half, Boston shoots forty percent from the field,
thirty seven percent from distance, not too bad, but the
second half ridiculous. Sixty three percent from the field and
fifty four percent from long distance. You're not beating the
Boston Celtics if they're shooting anywhere close to those numbers.
I don't care who you are. You could beat the thunder,
(03:48):
you could be the ninety six Bulls. You are not
beating the Boston Celtics if they are shooting like that
for an entire half. And that's exactly why the Celtics
blew this game open. And by the way, they did
wind up locking up at the other half of the court.
Charlotte only shoots forty to thirty nine percent from the
field during the game. So great defense from the Celtics
(04:08):
across the board. And you know, let's give full context
to this. Charlotte didn't have all of its players either.
We didn't have LaMelo out there, some of it. Bridges
was not out there tonight, so the Celtics weren't exactly
playing Charlotte's a team. But still the defense locked in
got it done as consecutive games that they've done that
at the defensive end. Gotta love what you saw from
(04:30):
some of the main players. Al Horford finishes his season
most likely. I don't think he's going to play on Sunday,
but we'll see. He finishes the season with a strong
double double of thirteen points and eleven boards in only
twenty seven minutes of action. Peyton Pritchard and Sam Hauser
red hot off the bench for Boston. Peyton Pritchard was
(04:50):
almost perfect, shooting tonight nine of eleven from the field
for twenty two points off the bench. Sam Hauser was
right on his heels finishes with twenty points and shot
seven for twelve from the field. So both of those
guys were locked and loaded, draining shots from all over
the court, mostly for Hawser from long distance, but Pritchard
was getting it done inside the arc as well. Those
(05:13):
two guys buoyed the bench for Boston that wound up
scoring sixty nine points in this game. I'm gonna repeat
that Boston's bench alone scored sixty nine points in this game,
and as I said, led by Peyton Pritcher's twenty two
in Sam Hauser's twenty, so great performance from the bench.
Everyone who checked into the game scored, with the exception
(05:35):
of Jordan Walsh, who was only in for a couple minutes,
so not a big deal there, But every other player
who checked into the game wound up scoring a bascat,
so balance across the board in the Celtics offense was
certainly rolling during that second half. Let's dive into some comments.
We've only got a couple tonight. Okay, we're gonna take
it easy on a Friday night, Let you guys get
(05:56):
out of here early, but thank you for these couple
of people who sent in their comments. First up, we're
gonna have Timotheus, who wants an injury update on Christaus
Porzingis and I'm going to give it to you. Next
up is the final comment of the night from Carlos
and tune As. I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly, sorry
if I'm not. That comment from Carlos is about how
(06:17):
he liked what he saw from the combination of Tory
Craig and Nimiyas Cada during that second half.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
So let's dive in. First one, up, Timothias, what do
you got all right? Timothias? You are up.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Here's the comment or the question. I asked, what are
you thinking after this game? And this was Timothias's answer,
is porzingis Okay, that's what I'm thinking. I think a
lot of people were thinking that everyone was waiting for
an update after the game. I'm gonna tell you right now,
you can calm down. You can sit back and relax
(06:50):
for the rest of the weekend. Christaus Porzingis is, to
quote Joe Missoula, perfectly fine.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
He did not come back out of the locker room
for the second half. Had everyone worried, did something happen
where he's going to get testing and blah blah blah
blah blah. Nope, nothing happened. He's perfectly fine. And again
I'm quoting Joe Mizzula, perfectly fine. We don't have anything
to worry about with Christas Porzingis. The only thing we
had to worry about and this game is that he
couldn't shoot the ball well two for seven from distance.
(07:19):
Opened the game with a few misses from three point range,
and that was while the whole offense was kind of stale.
He wound up finishing two for eleven from the field.
Still managed eleven points to go along with five rebounds
and a couple of assists in his eighteen minutes of action.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Not the best.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
He was really the only guy who didn't play with
him and Jew Holliday in terms of numbers, those are
the only two guys that really didn't have a rhythm
tonight during this game. But I think they're going to
be perfectly fine as we head into the playoffs. It's
great to see Christas porzingis healthy. We're going to head
into the playoffs with him feeling like that and feeling
perfectly fine, and trust us, he has been in a rhythm.
(07:57):
So this game was kind of a one off. I
do not think this is what he's gonna look like
when the postseason comes around. We're gonna see Christas porzingis
really playing well for the Celtics and impacting the game
on a night to night basis. All they have to
do is make sure that he stays healthy. If that happens,
they've got a big seven foot two seven foot three
center who can get it done at both ends of
(08:18):
the court, shooting from distance, scoring at all three levels,
and then defensively protecting the rim. So Christas porzingis he's
perfectly fine. Yes, he didn't come out for the second half,
but that's just because he was relaxing back in the
locker room. It appears all right, everything is okay. He's
gonna be fine. I don't think he's gonna play on Sunday,
but we'll have to wait and see. This might have
been his final regular season game, in his final tune
(08:41):
up for the playoffs that are coming up about a
week from Sunday. But you know, if he plays great,
if he doesn't, I think he's gonna be just fine
and be perfectly ready for Game one when it arrives
at TD Garden.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
All right.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Next up, our final comment of the night. This one
is coming from Carlos on Tunas.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Again. I hope I'm saying that properly.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
If I'm not, I apologize again. I asked, what are
you thinking after this game? And this was Carlos's response.
Two easy. Craig and Nimi looking good together plus twenty
in only twelve minutes.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
That is true.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Tory Craig was a plus twenty, Nimias Cada plus twenty.
These guys both played the entire fourth quarter twelve minutes,
and they wound up combining four nine points, six rebounds,
and five assists to go along with a few steals.
The thing that I love about these guys, and in
pretend I'm gonna go one by one here, but the
(09:39):
thing that I love about both of them is they
bring energy to the game. Tory Craig. This I said
this on the show on Wednesday on Celtics Weekly. Tory
Craig number twelve reminds me of the number twelve the
Celtics had last season, and that was Oshaber.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Set and listen.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
These are not guys who are going to be in
the top seven or eight in the rotation, not going
to play every night. But if the Celtics get in
a pinch and they need someone to come in and
provide energy and change a game with energy, Peyton Pritchard
has done this the past couple of seasons. Tory Craig
is that type of guy. He plays so hard, he
(10:18):
crashes the glass, he defends and doesn't care about what
happens to his body. And by the way, he can
shoot the three. Tonight he rows up for a big
dunk in the paint. I just love what I'm seeing
from him when he checks in for the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
It's like he.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Doesn't care about anything other than playing hard and providing
the team with energy and playing with a high IQ,
which is a requirement to be on the court for
the Boston Celtics. I love what I'm seeing out of him.
Tonight finishes with two points, five rebounds for assist, three steals,
all in only twelve minutes. Pretty impressive performance from him. Yes,
(10:54):
he missed his only three point shot, who cares if
you bring all those other things to the court, that's
all you would even want from him if he were
to check in for a playoff game while being surrounded
by the rest of the great players on the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
So love what I'm seeing out of Tory Craig.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Moving over to to MIAs Kaida, He's had a really
good season in general. There have been moments where maybe
he's been a step slow on defense or doesn't really
know exactly where to be on the court, But that's okay.
You don't have to be perfect, as I said, especially
when you're surrounded by some of the best players in
the world. Tonight, nmas Caida checks in seven points, doesn't
(11:30):
miss a shot, three of three, had a nice little
driving hook shot in the paint when he got stuck
with the ball out on the elbow. Nice little drive
spin move. Great footwork and that's one of the things
that stands out to me with him. Have you ever
seen a seven footer who was barely in the league
before he joined a team and has such great footwork
and athleticism and lateral agility, like he really brings that
(11:55):
to the table. He's able to stay in front of
a lot of the wings and guards that he winds
up switched to. He can protect the rim, he rebounds well,
He's a good finisher around the basket.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
His hands have improved.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Nimis Kaida has really cemented himself as an NBA player
this season, and I expect him to be an impact
player for him next season, potentially being in the rotation
very consistently, so you'll love to see this continuing for him.
But both him and Craig play the entire fourth quarter.
The Celtics wind up outscoring Charlotte by twenty points during
(12:28):
those twelve minutes. A very impressive performance out of those
two guys, and really out of the entire bench in general.
Baylor Shierman as well, plus sixteen and only nine and
a half minutes. He finished with five points, three rebounds,
and two assists and a steal in that short amount
of time. These boys are ready, okay, and I think
we're going to see a lot of them when it
(12:48):
comes Sunday afternoon. We're going to see a bunch of
those stay ready group guys, and hopefully those guys can
give the Celtics one more victory before they head into
the playoffs. And let me remind you, if they do
win that game, they will have sixty one wins on
the season. Let's compare that a little bit to last
year's historic performance from the Celtics. Last year was sixty
(13:12):
four wins. This year, if they win on Sunday, they
can win sixty one. That's a three win difference. All
while not having your starting lineup for most of the season.
They've all the starters have played together. I believe it's
twenty four or twenty five times. The Celtics are going
to possibly finish the season with only three fewer wins
than last season. Pretty darn impressive. I think the Celtics
(13:35):
are feeling very confident about themselves in that locker room,
and tonight certainly helps that cause. I feel like they
feel that they might actually be better than they were
last year, and that's a scary thought. Yes, the rest
of the league is better as well, but I believe
that they think that they are better than they were
last year heading into the postseason. So, as I said,
(13:57):
one final game for the real stuff starts. That final
game comes at Sunday, comes on Sunday at one o'clock
against this very same team, the Charlotte Hornets. Those guys
are missing some of their key players, so who knows
what happens on Sunday. As I said, I don't think
the Celtics are going to play all of their starters
and key players in that game. But we'll see what
(14:19):
Joe Missoula has to offer for his final game of
the season again one o'clock on Sunday, Game eighty two
of eighty two, and then the real stuff starts heading
to the postseason. Check out my post on x right
after the final buzzer. I want to hear what you
think about the game on Sunday. I appreciate you tuning
in on YouTube. Thank you for listening on your favorite
(14:39):
podcast platforms, and I'll see you Sunday even Thank you.
