Speaker 1 (00:06):
Down off with me, folks on the Boston Celtics closing
out this season just three wins, shy of their record
setting performance just one season ago when they went on
to win the NBA Championship. Hey, listen, I appreciate everyone
watching us on YouTube. I appreciate everyone giving us a
(00:26):

game you check out my handle on x and reply
to the post right after the final buzzer and send
in your comments. Set take a few comments every single night.
Plug them in, give a reaction to what you all
are thinking. We want to make sure we touch base
with Celtics Nation. But let's get back into this and
talk about just how great this team was this season.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Again. I'm going to repeat this.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
The Celtics finished this season just three wins, shy of
their pace last season when it was one of their
most dominant seasons in the history of their franchise. And
they did it this year while having their starting lineup
together for thirteen fewer games than they did last year.
Think about that last year they had their main starters
(01:15):
on the court for thirty seven games. They started thirty
seven games together. This year, those guys only started twenty
four games together. They were only available to play twenty
four games together, and yet still the Celtics overcome that
and somehow logus season that's almost right on par with
their historic performance from a year ago. Only again only
(01:38):
three game shy sixty four wins last season, sixty one
wins this season. They're gonna finish with it at least
a plus nine in the scoring differential category. Like this
has been an incredible season for Boston And when you
really dig into the numbers, they opened the season hot,
(02:00):
nineteen and four out of the gates, then they run
into a little bit of a challenge in the middle
of the season. I don't think they're gonna argue that either.
Things got a little murky there from about mid December
into late January. Team was playing about five hundred ball
for about four or five weeks, five or six weeks actually,
But then they rebound and after going nineteen and four
(02:23):
to start the season, they close out the season twenty
nine to six over their final.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Thirty five games.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
To me, that is exactly what Joe Mizzoulu would want
the season, the way he would want that to unfold,
And it was really kind of like Today's game was
kind of a microcosm of the entire season for the
Boston Celtics. This group that started today started out hot,
thirty something points in the first quarter. They were dominating
at halftime. They were up by twenty one points during
(02:54):
the first half, and then things got a little murky
in the third quarter. Charlotte got back into the game
and then he got to go down the stretch and
find a way to win. And that's exactly what this
group of Celtics, who by the way, don't play too
often together, it's exactly what they did. They found a
way to win in crunch time. That's kind of a
microcosm of what this entire season has been. You start
(03:17):
out hot, nineteen and four out of the gates, then
you hit a little bit of a challenge in the
middle of the season, a five or six weeks stretch
where you're playing about five hundred basketball, and then you've
got to rediscover yourself. You gotta find yourself and find
a way to close out the season on a high note,
and Boston did exactly that again twenty nine and six
(03:38):
over its final thirty five games of the season. They
are rolling heading into the postseason. And you know, knock
on wood, as long as these guys can stay healthy,
I would expect them to make another deep run. You
never know what's gonna happen. Teams can get hot, you
never know what's gonna happen in a particular matchup. But
I feel really good about this team going into the playoffs,
(04:00):
especially because of what we saw today. You saw a
bunch of role players get an opportunity to play major minutes,
to be main pieces of the offense and the defense.
In most of them, if not all of them, stepped
up to the plate, and did a.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Great job with that opportunity.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
So great to see the Celtics not only have an
impressive end to the season and finished with sixty one games,
again just three shy of their pace from last season,
but great to see the players be able to do
it while having to come through in the clutch. This
game went down to the final couple minutes could have
gone either way. Charlotte could have ended that it's season
on a high note and been able to go onto
(04:36):
vacation for the offseason feeling really good about itself by
the way it finished this game, But that didn't happen.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
Boston's guys figured out, figured it out down the stretch.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
It was great to see Jordan Walsh make some big shots,
make some big plays.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
JD.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Davison was on the court from most of the fourth quarter,
if not all of it, making big plays, clutch plays,
getting the Celtics into the right places, getting the ball
into the right spot. Great to see these guys being
able to be involved in setting up the Celtics for
a win in crunch time on the final day.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Of the regular season.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
We can't get through the open of this episode without
talking about Peyton Pritchard. Another unbelievable performance from him. Friday night,
shot nine of eleven from the field for twenty two points. Today,
scores thirty four points while shooting fourteen of twenty five
from the field. The guy is just red hot scoring
the basket. He is playing at a beautiful pace. The
(05:31):
defense doesn't know what he's doing. He can get to
the rim and throw them off the rhythm and get
an open shot. He can pull up, he can step
back for his three like he is playing totally in rhythm.
As the Celtics head into the postseason next weekend. Also,
Sam Houser shot the ball well again. He was hot
Friday night, again hot today. So great to see those
(05:51):
couple rotational players playing well. And Luke Cornett just continues
to be the model of consistency for the Celtics today
another spot start for him. Finishes the game with eleven points,
eight rebounds in a game high four block shots. That's
too shy of his career high. He did block six
shots earlier this season. So great to see those three
(06:12):
players who we know are going to be a part
of the rotation in the postseason, along with the top
five starters plus Al Horford. That's the main group right there.
So we saw these guys play well, finished on a
high note. They had an opportunity to go and gain
some rhythm today before they head into the postseason next weekend,
and they did exactly that. So a lot of positives
(06:34):
to take out of this win. A great end to
the regular season. And now we're going to dive into
some comments. We've got a couple of them coming in
today from Celtics Nation. The first one is from King
the Great, who's talking about Peyton Pritchard in his case
for six Man of the Year. I think it's a rap.
We're going to talk about that in a second, and
then next up we've got the other model of consistency
(06:55):
here with sound off. That's oh look, it's Brian comments
every night. We appreciate you, man, appreciate you giving us
a listen and sending in all your feedback. The comment
from him is on the journey of this regular season
and what he saw from a couple of Celtics out
there on the court today. So let's dive into the
first one.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Here.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
It's coming from King the Great. All right, King the
Great with a comment here on Peyton Pritchard. Here it
is Peyton Pee Money Pritchard, the dog first six man
of the year, with a little Celtics three leaf clover
in some hands saying I'm clapping about Peyton Pritchell. Yeah,
we're all clapping right now. Thirty four points during this game,
(07:32):
after scoring twenty two Friday night. This guy is rolling.
As I just said, in the open nine of eleven
Friday night tonight, he got his shots up, he had
the opportunity and he said, I'm going to take advantage
of this. Got twenty five shots up in this game
and made fourteen of them. You don't have to do
the math. I'll do it for you, it's fifty six
percent from the field, just shooting it well, playing at
(07:54):
a beautiful rhythm that defenses just can't seem to figure out.
And with regard to the Man of the Year conversation, like,
I don't think it's a conversation. I think that this
is an obvious choice and I don't think really anyone
else has a case that comes even close to what
Peyton Pritchard has put together this season. He is the
leading scorer off the bench this season. He's one of
(08:14):
the best three point shooters in the NBA, like period,
point blank, not just about reserves, this is talking about
any player in the game. He's top five in almost
every category today winds up notch in a pretty interesting
stat with I think he's the only Celtic to make
over two hundred three pointers in a season and also
(08:35):
grab at least one hundred offensive rebounds Outside of Antoine Walker.
Antoine Walker a big wing, a forward who played around
the basket a good amount. Peyton Pritchard is a small
guard who is the second Celtic player in franchise history
to notch that number. A great stat from mar Taylor
Snow again. I'll repeat that at least two hundred and
(08:56):
to three pointers and at least one hundred offensive rebounds.
It's Antoine Walker, a forward who played around the basket
a lot in a small guard in Peyton Prichard, pretty
darn impressive. So again, I don't think that this conversation
around six Man of the Year is a conversation. I
think it's Peyton Prichard and then everyone else is way
behind him. And he cemented that today. I don't know
(09:18):
if that was something that he was thinking about.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
I doubt it. That's really not the way that he
approaches things. But he did it.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
He silenced all of the people who might have been
questioning going into the final day of the regular season.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
Huh, maybe someone else can slide in here and.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Be a top vote getter and possibly steal this award
away from Bitton.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
No, it's not happening.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Thirty four points on the final day of the regular season.
It seems like he does this every year, dominates the
final week when he gets some extra run. He did
it again today, and I think that was just an
exclamation point in the hammer being put down that this
award is mine, and I think he's going to wind
up receiving that a ward here in the short term future.
(09:58):
So great to see Peyton Prichard in this type of
rhythm as we approach the postseason. We saw how important
he was last year when the Celtics made that run,
you know, some of those end of quarter shots, But
beyond that, just the impact that he can make at
both ends of the court. He is a really strong defender,
and I'm talking both physically and just being in the
right place at the right time and being able to
(10:20):
stay in front of whoever he is defending. He is
a great defender, a very important piece of Boston's defense
coming off the bench. But then offensively can just really
change a game with the way he can put the
ball through the basket, especially when he's playing off some
super duper stars out there in the starting lineup. So
great to see Peyton Pritchard. Can't wait to see more
of him going into the postseason. And that is a rap, folks.
(10:43):
Peyton Pritchard is going to be your sixth Man of
the Year for the twenty twenty four twenty twenty five
NBA season.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
All right, next up, our last comment of the night.
Speaker 1 (10:54):
I'm saying night it really is still during the day
it's only four o'clock while we're recording this, but oh look,
it's Brian again. Appreciate you sending in your comments every
single game here. It is sad that the regular season
is over. It's been a journey, preach looking forward to
the playoffs and the role to Banner nineteen.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Super happy that JD.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Davison got the contract, Very pleased with his play today,
G League MVP getting his deserved flowers. And then the
last comment here Luke going green monster again with blocks. Yeah,
Luke Cornette again. We talked about it earlier. Four blocks
during this game. And by the way, he only played
less than thirty minutes, so blocked four shots in less
than thirty minutes. He was super impactful, as he has
(11:38):
been all season. Let's go down the line here with
oh look, it's Brian's comments. Sad that the regular season
is over. It's been a journey looking forward to the
playoff front. Yeah, absolutely, this has been a journey. And
when you're talking about we heard Joe Missoula the first
time he spoke to the media this season back at
Media Day back in what was it October, early October,
(12:00):
it might have been late September. I think it was
late September. My brain is even bogged at this point
of the season. The first thing he says is we're
not defending our title that we won. We're always gonna
have that. What we're looking to do is to win
another championship. So that's the tone that he set. This
wasn't about defending a championship. But with that being said,
(12:22):
I've got to bring something to the table here. This
is one of the best title defense seasons that we've
ever seen, especially when you consider what the Celtics haven't
had in terms of health. They've been missing starters constantly
throughout the season. As I already mentioned, they're starting five,
only played twenty four of eighty two games together, twenty
(12:43):
four of eighty two games, and yet they won sixty
one games with a scoring margin of plus nine or better.
Like this is an incredible title defense that the Celtics
have put together, especially when you pull away the middle
of that season, which you know going into a season
there's always gonna be one stretch where there's gonna be
(13:04):
a struggle that was elongated for Boston this season.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
It's about five or six weeks.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
But they start out nineteen and four they end the
season twenty nine to six, like this has been dominant
outside of that stretch in the middle of the season,
and that was a brief stretch. When you put together
that opening to the season in the end to the season,
that's a much larger chunk of the year. And I
think that's the real team that we know the Boston
(13:30):
Celtics can be.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
It's possible that.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
This team's ceiling is even higher than last year's team.
And when I talk about ceiling, I talk about just
the level of play they can get to. Last year
they won the championship. You can't do anything beyond that.
But I think that they can play at a higher
level than they did last season. Let's look and see
if we can see that coming up starting next weekend
(13:54):
against whoever they're gonna face. The next comment about JD Davison,
I am so happy for that guy that he wound
up signing a full NBA contract today. You can go
back and watch one of my sound Austin was within
the last couple of weeks, I said, JDET it was
the day after or the day that he won the
G League MVP award. I said, JD. Davison is an
(14:17):
NBA player. Now he has turned himself into an NBA player,
sure enough, Now he really is. He finally has that
day today where he signed his first full NBA contract,
and it truly is an incredible story. This is a
guy who is one of the top recruits in the
entire country coming out of high school, stays local, goes
(14:38):
to Alabama, doesn't have a great season in his freshman
season at Alabama, but still chooses to go to the NBA,
wound up sliding into the second round. Deep into the
second round, the Celtics wind up selecting him and putting
in the effort after that little bit of a tough
year and a half where he came out of high
school as one of the best in the country, came
(14:59):
out of college, almost went undrafted, and then he comes
to the Celtics and winds up turning himself into a
full NBA player over the course of the past few seasons.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Wins G League MVP this year.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Like this is a guy who was teetering on like
possibly not even being in the G League at that point,
and now he has learned the game, He has shaped
his body, he has sharpened his skills to turn himself
into not only the G League MVP, but you fast
forward about a week now he is a full time
NBA player for the Boston Celtics, and that is something
(15:34):
that no one will ever be able to take away
from him. The story from where he was in high
school to where he is today after signing his name
on that dotted line is truly incredible, and I hope
everyone out there appreciates it as much as I'm sure JD.
Davison is right now. So tons of love to him.
I'm proud of him, watching him from Afar. I'm sure
(15:54):
everyone else in the organization is feeling the same way,
and hopefully it's just the start for him here in
the NBA. Last comment here, we already touched on of
Luke Cornett blocking the shots. Yup four blocks tonight. That
was a game high. You'll love to see it. And
Luke Cornett is also rolling as we head into the postseason,
and we have said playoffs. We have said postseason so
(16:15):
many times this year. Okay, we start this season way
back in October. You've got to get through eighty two
games to get to what that next portion is, and
that is the NBA playoffs. And now we are here
The play in starts Tuesday night. This Celtics will be
playing Game one sometime next weekend, like Lee, either Saturday
(16:36):
or Sunday, and we can't wait. Tuesday night, we are
going to find out who the Celtics are facing in
the first round. The play in is happening the seven
to eight Seeds at seven Orlando Magic, that's eight Atlanta Hawks.
Those two teams are facing off Tuesday on TNT. The
winner of that game gets the unpleasant right to head
(16:58):
into the first round and play against the Boston Celtics
and play Game one up here, right here in this
building at TD Garden next weekend. I can't wait for
that Game one. I can't wait to find out who
the Celtics are playing. Make sure you tune into the
play in on Tuesday night, and then make sure you
take part with me here in the SoundOff postgame podcast
(17:18):
throughout the entire playoffs. I'll be here every single night,
every home game. We're on video, on YouTube and on
your podcast platforms. In every single game we have the
podcast going out on your podcast platform. So I can't
wait to see you next weekend. Until then, we're gonna
have your inside access out at the practice facility for
(17:39):
all of Boston's practices leading up to the first game. Again,
I'll see you next Saturday or Sunday, whenever the first
tip off is.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
I'll see you then.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Can't wait for another run trying to get banners that
is not
