Meanwhile, Payton Pritchard turned the game around during the second quarter, Josh Minott had a career night, and Jordan Walsh made a significant impact off the bench.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Sound off with me. Folks on Jalen Brown being on
an absolute heater right now, I'm not sure if there's
been a point in Jalen Brown's career where he has
been this hot. And when I talk about this hot,
I'm talking about hot to the touch, I'm talking about
scorching the nets. I'm talking about tearing apart opposing defenses

(00:28):
at will. He did it tonight, and he did it
in a fashion that no other Boston Celtic player has
ever done before. That's right. Tonight he logged thirty five points,
five rebounds, and five assists, all while shooting a ridiculous
number from the field in twenty six minutes of action.

(00:48):
He is the first Celtics player ever to log those
numbers in less than thirty minutes of play. He did
it in twenty six This guy is on a heater.
This is the fifth time in his career that he
has logged a thirty five to five in five game. Tonight,

(01:08):
he didn't even have to play in the fourth quarter
to do that. That's how great he was during the
first three quarters. So let's take a look at the numbers.
You want to talk about the definition of enfuego. This
is it thirteen of twenty one from the field. Look
at the handles that he is putting on on the
court and putting on a show for everyone who is

(01:31):
watching the Boston Celtic's Like, some of these moves are
absolutely ridiculous, and to be able to actually convert on
the shot attempt after those moves is even more ridiculous.
And Jalen Brown is doing this on a night in
and night out basis. Now he has played nine games
on the season. He has five games of thirty or

(01:52):
more points. There are some people out there who wondered
if Jalen Brown would be able to take that step
up with Jason Tatum being sidelined with his achilles injury. Well,
those questions are being answered right now. Jalen Brown is
certainly there to answer the call and he is leading
the Celtics in every which way this season. Just Monday night,

(02:16):
he scored thirty six points while shooting thirteen of what
was it thirteen of nineteen from two point range. He
struggled from three point range was zero for nine, but
from two point range he was unstoppable. Tonight, he shoots
thirteen for twenty one from the field. As a whole
makes two of his four to three pointers, got to

(02:37):
the line for nine attempts and made seven of them
over the course of two games. He is now seventeen
for twenty from the free throw line, so he's getting
to the free throw line regularly, he is converting. But
those shots in the mid range, the fadeaways, even some
of the three pointers that you just saw in those clips, Like,

(02:58):
how is he doing it? I don't understand, but all
I know is that I love watching it happen. Jalen
Brown is having an unbelievable season so far through the
first couple weeks, and we can't wait to see more
as we move forward. Obviously, he was the biggest reason
why the Boston Celtics got back into the win column
tonight with a runaway one thirty six to one oh

(03:21):
seven win over the visiting Washington Wizards, and things started
to turn. Not necessarily because of Jalen Brown, they started
to turn in the second quarter because Peyton Pritchard caught fire. Okay,
the Celtics had a rough first quarter. They were down
ten points. I believe it was after the first quarter.
Eleven points after the first quarter. Well, not too long

(03:42):
after that, they got back and took a forty seven
to forty one lead, and it was mostly because of
Peyton Pritchard. He scored ten out of boston sixteen points
to open up the second quarter. Was an awesome run
by him, and then, as you'll see here in just
a moment, he makes this three point and just the
Washington Wizards call for time out and Peyton's like, fans,

(04:05):
get on your feet, like, do you see what's happening?
We are giving you a reason to cheer and be loud.
And the Celtics didn't have that Monday night. They had
it tonight and Peyton Pritchard is the guy who got
the crowd on their feet. He's the guy who gave
the energy to the rest of the team. And from
that moment on, the Boston Celtics and Peyton Pritchard, they
weren't looking back. They continued to pour it on the

(04:27):
rest of the game. Yes, it all started with that
run from Peyton Pritchard. So great to see from him.
He's had a rough season shooting the ball so far,
but he's you can see that he's starting to turn
the corner. In tonight, not only did he turn the corner,
but he did it in a way that really got
the entire building energized and started the fire for the

(04:49):
Boston Celtics to get them back into the win column
for their fourth win of the season. A few other
great performances from this game. Josh may Not a career
high twenty one points during this game. During those twenty
one points, he made a career high three three pointers
from beyond the yark. So Josh Maynot, He's had a

(05:10):
couple of games where his scoring and his numbers dropped
off a little bit. Well, guess what, he's back and
he's ready to go again. A career high twenty one
points tonight, eight of twelve from the field, made three
of his six to three point shots, and not only
did he make them, but he looked very confident in
taking them, and that's not something that we've seen all

(05:30):
season long. Tonight it was like catch and shoot, no hesitation.
He was ready to let it go, and half of
the time he did, he made them. So a lot
of career highs across the board for Josh mayn Not tonight.
On top of that, we saw Namias Keida put together
an awesome performance fifteen points, twelve rebounds, five assists, did
not miss a shot during this game. Also wound up

(05:53):
blocking how many shots during this a one block shot
during this game which you'll see during these clips here.
But again, fifteen twelve and five without missing a shot.
We heard what Jalen Brown did during this game, Well,
this is the first time a player has ever gone
fifteen to twelve and five without missing a shot in

(06:14):
Celtics history as well, so Jalen Brown makes history as
the first player to go thirty five, five and five
in less than thirty minutes. He did it in twenty six.
Nimiashkeda also sets or makes history by going fifteen twelve
and five without missing a shot the first time in
Celtic's history. Jordan Walsh also stepped in with some quality

(06:35):
minutes tonight. He led most bench players coming off the
bench with seven points. He had seven rebounds and assists
a couple seals. Was really playing well at both ends
of the court. The only reserve who scored more than
him during this game for the Boston Celtics was Anthony Simons,
who really caught fire during the second half and in
the fourth quarter in particular. He finished with eighteen points.

(06:58):
But Jordan Walsh he hasn't gotten a ton of opportunity
this season, and for the most part, when he has
gotten the opportunity, he hasn't taken advantage of it. We're
going to talk about him a little bit more later
in the episode, but great to see that out of
him tonight. Looks like he might be gaining some more
minutes here moving forward if he continues to play like that.
Let's dive into a couple comments from our fans. First up,

(07:20):
we've got Jill on Jalen Brown's MVP candidacy. Got to
stay around to listen and hear what she has to say.
And then we've got Brian on Jordan Walsh's performance, which
we just touched on. We'll go a little deeper into
in just a couple moments. So Jill, you're up first.
Let's go, all right, as promised. First up is Jill

(07:40):
and Jill says Jalen Brown in Top seven MVP Conversations.
All Right, this conversation has been happening now for a
week or so. All Right, we talked about it on
our pre stream over the weekend when the Celtics played
host to Kevin Durant and the Houston Rocket. It's Entering

(08:02):
that game, Jalen Brown was third in effective field goal
percentage among all NBA players attempting fifteen or more shots. Third,
it was Yannis Luca and Jalen and by the way,
Luca had only played I think three games to that point,
Jalen had played five or six. So right there tells

(08:25):
you he's in a category with the elite. The elite elite,
which are players that are year in and year out.
In the MVP conversation, he had a rough Saturday night,
did not play well and score efficiently against the Houston Rockets.
But now you fast forward to now after Monday's game

(08:46):
and after tonight's game, and all of the stats haven't
updated yet on NBA dot com, But I would be
willing to bet that he's right back in that category
and right back in that rare air among NBA players
having a truly incredible season so far. We touched on
it earlier. There are some people out there who didn't

(09:06):
know if Jalen Brown would be able to handle being
the lead dog. I don't know why they may have
felt that way or had those question marks. He's been
the lead dog when Jason Brown has missed games in
the past, when Jason Tatum has missed games in the past,
Jalen Brown has stepped up and delivered for the Celtics.
He did it in the playoffs last year. He did
it in the regular season last year. This guy's done

(09:29):
it for years. Now. Now we're seeing it on a
more consistent basis because Jason Tatum is sidelined and Jalen
Brown is certainly taking advantage of the opportunity having an
unbelievable season. As I said at the start, he is
on a true heater, something that opposite opposing players and

(09:49):
opposing teams and scouting reports are probably just like you,
just listen. You're not gonna be able to stop him.
All you can do is hope to challenge his shot
and hope that he misses, because that's the way that
he is shooting the ball and scoring with efficiency this
season tonight. In addition to that, in addition to the scoring,
he also really passed the ball well five assists, he

(10:10):
only had one turnover, created some great looks for teammates.
You'll see it in not right now, but you'll see
it in the episode. He probably already saw it of
a nice driving and no look past to Josh Miyo
for a cutting dunk, Like he just seemed like he
was really seeing the floor well tonight, so on top
of making the shots that he was making from start
to finish, and by finish I mean the end of

(10:32):
the third quarter because he didn't have to play in
the fourth because the Celtics were so far ahead. But
really a truly all around performance from Jalen Brown, a
historic performance from Jalen Brown. And we're gonna have to
see where all the dust settles tomorrow after all the
games are done and played tonight. But I would venture
to say that top seven in the MVP conversations, it

(10:54):
might be even higher than that, Like that's how great
of a season he is having so far really happen
for him, that he's taking advantage of this situation and
of this opportunity and really just shutting some people up
who didn't really believe in him to be able to
reach this level. With Jason Tatums sideline, it's been awesome
to watch and I'm pretty confident we're going to see

(11:15):
a lot more of it here moving forward. All right,
second and final comment of the night. This is coming
in from our long time listener Brian who says Walsh
head really and that's in all caps, really good minutes
during this game, miy not oh, yes, just energy. PP
had two quick fouls in the first minute, essentially came

(11:37):
off the bench later on played well. I'd almost say
swap him with Simons in the starting coming off the
bench roll he starts in PP is sixth again, see
what happens. Also play everyone see who sparks? All right,
I want to concentrate on the first line of this
comment from Brian when he says Walsh had really good

(11:59):
minutes and I touched on it earlier. Jordan Walsh. His
opportunities have been sporadic so far this season. He hasn't
necessarily capitalized on those moments. Tonight, he absolutely did. Finishes
this game playing almost twenty four minutes and winds up
with seven points, seven rebounds, and assists two steals. Was

(12:21):
a plus twenty seven off the bench. I'm gonna repeat
that he was a plus twenty seven off the bench
in less than twenty four minutes of action. That folks
will tell you just how impactful he was out on
the court. And I have to say, just like watching
from my perspective, just seeing through my eyes, the way

(12:42):
that he impacted the game at both ends of the
court was truly remarkable because we haven't seen this very
much from Jordan Walsh this season. Tonight, he comes into
the game, starts picking up full court and yes, he
did commit four files. There were a couple where you
would have liked him to not make the body contact,
stay away from committing the foules. But it's gonna come

(13:03):
with the territory of pressuring full court and the opposing
player trying to get by you and trying to drive
and put pressure on the defense. It happens. But Jorda
Walsh checked in and as we've seen from Joe Mizoula's
defense this year, he wants to apply full court pressure.
Jorda Walsh is capable of doing that constantly, and he

(13:24):
has great instincts. He's long, he's athletic, he can wreak
havoc out there, and that's what he did tonight. He
wreaked havoc with his defense, causing turnovers, just causing the
offense to be uncomfortable. He did that tonight consistently throughout
those twenty three plus minutes. That was one thing. The

(13:45):
other thing is the rebounding. Okay, he was consistently crashing
the glass, as is evidence by his seven rebounds, including
two at the offensive end. But the other thing I
need to touch on is the way that he caught
a three point shot, fired it up, and drained it
with zero hesitation. I talked about Josh might Not earlier

(14:05):
in this episode, in the way that he had a
catching a couple catch and shoot threes during this game
was zero hesitation. You don't always see that from guys
who don't have a track record of being successful from
long range. Josh might Not does not have that long
track record, neither does Jordan Walsh. But tonight you see
those guys really catching it in rhythm and firing it

(14:26):
up and it just looks good coming off of their hands.
That is what happened with Jordan Walsh with the three
pointer that he made tonight. So great to see him
making a significant impact at both ends of the court.
As Brian says in his comment, he was really good tonight.
In all caps, he was awesome, and he'd certainly is

(14:49):
through tonight's performance, earning further opportunity down the road from
Joe Missoula. I understand what Brian is saying here about
play everyone, see who's the team. I think on certain
nights you're not going to go that deep into your bench,
but tonight was a great opportunity for Missoula to do that,
and Jordan Walsh provided that spark that the team needed,

(15:11):
and really they rallied around him and played very well
while he was on the court. I expect to see
more Jordan Walsh, and I hope that we see more
of the Jordan Walsh that we saw tonight, because that
player can make a difference for the Boston Celtics this
season and beyond. So the Celtics grab a huge blowout
win during this game. Again it was one thirty six

(15:33):
to one oh seven over the Washington Wizards, and now
Boston heads out on the road for a three game
road trip, including two games that are going to be
played within a few days of each other. Down in
Orlando against the new look Magic. With Desmond Baine in
the lineup, it should be fun to see how these
teams match up for the first time this season. Friday
night and Sunday night, the Celtics will take on the

(15:55):
Orlando Magic. Fridays is at seven o'clock. That game will
be on NBC Sports Boston. As always, please make sure
to send in your comments after the game to me
on X and I'll pull a couple of them to
be in the next episode of sound Off. The Celtics
are back within one game of five hundred. Let's see
if they can get there on Friday. Not Chick
