Speaker 1 (00:06):
All right, everybody, good afternoon, Welcome in. This is Sticking
Hack Reacts. I'm your host, Adam Grown from Sticking Act.
That's Keith Stewart from ESPN Radio and host of the
Pro Show with us as always here as we react
to this week's p G A and LPGA news, as
we do every Monday. I don't know if I can
get tired of talking about this, So we're gonna kick
off with reaction number one, and it's Tiger Woods now.

(00:29):
I don't want to be dramatic, Keith. I don't want
to be uh pontificating like they're doing on the Golf
Channel for hours on end about his uh comeback and
how he looks compared to two thousand and whatever ridiculous
comparisons they're making still to this day about the greatest
running golf. However, I will ask for your simple reaction
and then we'll get into the details. Tiger hitting ropes

(00:50):
on the range at his tournament, the Hero World Challenge,
looking strong, looking good, talking about perhaps playing again here soon.
Your reaction, I mean you gotta be before him. I mean,
big thumbs up. I'm sure he's had some dark days
in two thousand and twenty one, and and like so
many people, he's probably ready to flip the script to
two thousand and twenty two. So you gotta be happy

(01:13):
for the guy. I mean, you know a lot of times,
you know, maybe the athletes that we deal with, you know,
on a weekly basis, we react to whatever someone we're
spoiled or whatever. But quite honestly, to have him back
and talking to the media and he seems like he's
in a good mood and he's just ready to roll,
and and I'm just happy for the guy, so big
thumbs up out. Do you think that what he's saying

(01:38):
is a typical tiger And like, Hey, I might play
a couple of tournaments here and there. You know, I'm
gonna enjoy my life. I'm gonna enjoy my family. I'm
gonna go play some tournaments. Um. But he's out there
at his own tournament that he knows everyone's watching, and
he's hitting, he's hitting ropes, he's uh, he's grinding to
to a degree, but he's he looks smooth and and

(01:58):
and strong. Is this posturing for an actual comeback and
he's trying to set everyone's expectations low, including his own,
Or is this truly what our next couple of years
look like, with Tiger playing a couple of tournaments and
and him just creating a spectacle wherever he goes. Honestly,
I mean it's it's typical Tiger. You know, he just

(02:18):
kind of manages the media and then he's gonna go
do his own thing. His own thing. Seems like he's
really interested in playing golf right now, I mean really
interested in playing golf and letting people know that he's
really interested in playing golf. So a couple of weeks ago,
on that Sunday morning, he releases Making Progress, right, and
he's sitting that little iron shot, and um, people are like,
oh jeez, he's swinging again. I was like, there, you

(02:41):
have to know Tiger right And people might say, well, Keith,
how do you know Tiger? Well, you know, I worked
at our Earth Country Club from h three and during
those five years I got to know Tiger very well.
And there isn't anything that he does that isn't mapped out.
You know, when it comes to the game of life,
he's playing chess, not checkers at him. Okay, so when
he released that video, he had been hitting balls for

(03:02):
a while. I mean that that was a calculated move
that was to let hey, people know that I'm playing
golf again and this is a big deal. And it's
great for the golf world that he did that. But
I think it was also great for him in a
way to see that reaction and how positive it would be.
Now fast forward a week and he says in a
press conference live, hey, folks, I don't know how much
golf I can play yet. Now he's gonna go hit

(03:24):
balls every single day and he'sn have chipping contest with Bryce,
and he's gonna be I mean, who hits the putting
green just for you know, hitting giggle purposes? Right? People
are People are like, what's that? You gotta be a
psychopath to Yeah, I mean, you know, people are getting

(03:45):
ready for their club championship and they don't practice their putting.
And you know, he's seen it all facets of of
the club practicing and then of all things of all
like total baller moves. He pulls out the red and black.
Now he knows there's gonna be It's it's a Sunday,
there's to be a photo op. He's gonna hand out
the trophy to somebody, right, But like then he goes
on the range, he just starts ripping drivers. Come on.

(04:08):
So um to answer your question, is he gonna play
more than a limited schedule? Probably not, But is he
gonna play enough that's gonna make a difference. Yeah, I
think so. I think he is ready to roll. And
it's obvious that he really wants to play bad and
there's probably Adam only one person on the world in
the world that wants to play more than him. Do

(04:29):
you know who that person is? Charlie his Son two
weeks right, Well, I guess I should have known that
because I wrote that down, so shame on me. I
didn't even get to the que there at the stage
q SO PNC Championships is coming up in two weeks
and this they're holding a spot for him right now,

(04:50):
which I think is probably like holding a spot until
the last possible second for Tiger for any tournament. But
they played at this thing last year and they they
were an incredible duo to watch. It was so fun
to see Charlie his Son and Tiger playing this thing.
This was really one of the last times we saw
a Tiger play anything until and then and then the
accident February. But he has has a spot open for him. Uh,

(05:14):
he and Charlie and uh, I don't see it happening.
Keith Personally, I think that would be a huge, huge
milestone that I just don't think Tiger is ready for,
even though I have zero access to any information outside
of what I'm reading and seeing. But I think that's
a that's a tad much. You go from making progress
on a on a TikTok and in an Instagram post

(05:36):
two three or four weeks later playing in that in
the tournament where all eyes are on you. Tiger doesn't
feel like the type person who's gonna go out there
and not compete. So I would be shocked if if
they do playing that, but I hope they do. That
would be incredible. Do you listen to one word that
I say, any of them? No? That's right? Is there
is there a point on these here? Yes, he relieved

(06:00):
that one swing because he's been practicing and playing. He
knows what he can do. So you think he's gonna
play in two weeks? All right? So you heard it here?
Keith's Keith Stewart ESPN Radio and co host of Sticking
Act reacts saying that Tiger's canna play in two weeks
and I say he's not, and they're two weeks out.
If you're the organizers, why would you can't have an

(06:22):
odd number of teams all right? There saving a spot
for him. The last kind of key ingredient happened this
week when JT committed. On top of that, he hit ball.
He practices. He practiced putting this week, Adam, what's the
last time you practiced put Yeah, twenty years ago. I
have no idea if I was in some sort of

(06:43):
putting contest at a weekend outing maybe maybe. All right,
let's move on. Uh So, hopefully Tiger plays and and
you when you're your bet and everyone knows that you're smart,
so good for you. Let's move on to a reaction
number two, and that is the Hero World Challenge Tiger's tournament.
What a strange, strange Sunday. Uh The last couple of

(07:04):
hours of golf were some of the strangest that I've seen,
with storylines and weirdness and some pretty terrible golf. At
one point, I'm gonna hit the highlights for you. Victor
Hobland one. It's his second win of the last two
tournaments he's been in he's won both, which, by the way,
side note, Uh, he's been able to hoist two of
the worst trophies in golf back to back, so that's

(07:26):
exciting for him. A lion and then or a tiger
with the you know, the the world and then whatever
the hell the other thing was a seal or a snail?
What was that in the Maya Kabba deal that he wanted? Great?
So uh, Morikawa who was leading coming into Sunday and
was looking great and playing well, all of a sudden,

(07:47):
all of a sudden was plus four yesterday, plus four
yesterday on Sunday. We had people playing the wrong tea
box in Hendrik Stinson and Jordan's speak assessed to stroke penalties.
Strange strange day. Victor wins. Your reaction to the Hero
World Challenge golf tournament, Um, I guess the fact that

(08:09):
we had that type of event here in December, Um,
when golf really never took place years ago. Um, big
thumbs up. You know, I think you had like seventeen
of the top twenty five in the world participate in
this thing. So just just tons and tons of drama
for a Sunday. You look at Scheffler closing with I
think seven birdies in his last ten holes. Uh, Hobland

(08:30):
goes five under for three holes. He wins the thing, Um,
Patrick Reid is messing around in the sand. That gives
people things to talk about. Um, you got major champions,
like you said, playing from the wrong te box all sort.
I mean it was great theater. More cow was four
over through six unbelievable five shot lead guy gets engaged.

(08:51):
If he wins, he's number one in the world. Everything
points towards. Um, you know his coronation on what a
weird don't just side sidebender there? Guy gets engaged all
of a a sudden, he hits plus four on on Sunday.
Is that what you're saying? Is that? All I'm saying
is that all all things pointed towards I mean, he's

(09:12):
the hottest golfer in the world. Last so agreed, he
should have won. He should have won. Let me let's so,
I think a couple of other storylines with it. I
would have I think that the most fun about the
weekend was just the press conferences afterwards after the rounds.
You got Rory getting getting pissy with with a question
about his shirt. Right. Uh, so someone asked me what

(09:32):
was the deal with your shirt? He's like, I ripped
the shirt. I got a new shirt in the story, Like,
what are we talking about? Uh? He who was done
talking about it? Henrik Stenson? Afterwards, you looked like Jordan's
fief was having fun with the fact that they hit
the wrong team box and got tested to two stroke penalty.
He thought it was hilarious for some reason, Hendrik, I
feel was getting a little frustrated with still having to
talk about it, and was was pretty pissy about the

(09:54):
whole situation. I've been just I've been to pro tournaments.
You've been pro tournaments. Of course, I find very hard
to believe that that could happen in any pro tournament.
I mean, they they corraled them into into a spot,
they got about eight feet to work with, and and
they are there's people all over the place to helping
them through. It's the fourth day they've been been through that.
I found that shocking that that they did that, and

(10:16):
then they didn't even know who was hitting first, which
was it was like it literally was like a weekend
with your buddies and some of whoever the your your
boys that always goes up first, no matter what the
hell happened the whole before. That's how it felt with Jordan,
and Jordan's like, oh wait, I'm not I'm not up yet.
Hendrick goes up here from the wrong te Jordan comes
up hiss from the wrong te assess the true stroke penalty.

(10:37):
Back to battles react for you for those two guys
major championship winners, two thumbs down, all right, because, um,
you know, there was a total breakdown on golf Twitter
where they pointed out there was like huge signs it's
at nine and seventeen. There was a memo sent out
to the players like hey, we might switch this te box.
Those guys were going through the motions. Um, what would
have been a really interesting side side story there, Adam,

(10:59):
would have been if that official didn't run over and
have them change and and fix their mistake, and they
hold out on nine and then they teat off on
number ten. They both would have been dairy queen. They
would have been done okay, and you get a hunter.
I think it was a hundred ten grand for last
place that Jordan's cashed in on, right, Well, you don't
get that if you're if you're disqualified. So that would

(11:21):
have been that would have been a really interesting, you know,
kind of sub story with you know, with Tigger is
like on the side, like slipping the hunter grand for
coming and you know, thank you very much. I mean,
I don't know. I mean, those are the kinds of
things I think about from running like a zillion golf
tournaments in my day. You know, so because I've had
to do that before. People play from the wrong place
and then go to them and be like, hey, Adam

(11:41):
and Mike um in this two man event, you guys
teat off on the wrong tea box and you're done.
I know you won by four, but you didn't win
at all and all right, so yeah, that would have
been and would have been on the Hack. I can
guarantee you that he's Keith Steward from ESPN Radio hosted
the pro show Find It where you get your podcast
amount of growth from Sticking Hack. This is Sticking ac
reacts our weekly look at the p g N l

(12:03):
pg UR reactions to that. Keith, enjoy your week. Thank
you so much for being here. We'll see you next week.
I have a great week, Adam. Peace. H
