Speaker 1 (00:06):
Everybody welcome in to say a stick and hack reacts.
Sign your host Adam Grub from Second Hack. That is
Key Stewart from ESPN Radio and also host the Pro
Show and also founder of Read the Line and also
made me forty dollars this weekend. More on that in
a second, Keith, I love it. Read the line all right,
so we'll get right into it. These are the reactions

(00:27):
of the LPGA and p g A over the weekend
from a Stick, Key Stewart and a bona fide hack
in me. I watched some of the coverage over the weekend,
as you can probably imagine. I saw your boy, Scotty Scheffler,
who although he wasn't your boy this weekend, but he
is a name that is all of a sudden he
is hitting a groove and golf. He wins again and

(00:48):
I say again because it's his second win in his
last three starts. That serves what we call hot streak.
We also have the LPGA back in action this past weekend,
and we have an incredible heartwarming store as well in
in one of the other the other tournaments or leagues
don't even know how you how you say it anymore,
Keith um. And I will preface this show by saying,

(01:10):
I don't think we're gonna talk about my favorite topic
this week, although it could come up, but I'm gonna
do my best to not. Also, Bryson is no longer
than in the Player's Championship, and that is my second
favorite person to talk about. Bryson said he's out, he's
still hurt. So let's get into the action that actually happened.
Keith ab the Arnad Palmer Invitational over the weekend, and

(01:31):
Scottie Scheffler a winner. Your reaction, uh, Scottie Scheffler and
great young champions, So two thumbs up for him. But
bay Hill, I have to give like five, six, seven
thumbs up. I love it. I mean, I know you
have such a great memory, Adam. So if we just
rewind back to like the Century Tournament of Champions and
we think about everybody going nuts and talking about scoring

(01:54):
records being broken by the guy in the third place
at the Century and how everyone's making all these birdies
and and you know how it's destroying the game of golf.
And you know all the people that you hang out
with at the club, you know all those you know,
blueblazer type guys saying the traditionalists saying, man, we hate
this and blah blah blah. Well guess what, folks, two
weeks in a row, we've had an absolute beat down

(02:18):
on the p G A Tour and now they're going
into Pete D's masterpiece, the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
I mean this thing, it's it's I mean, the p
G A Tour is so awesome because wee can and
week out they can have such a different storyline going
into whatever it is, the golf courses, the weather, the field,

(02:40):
the storyline. I mean, all of this stuff gets to
come together and it gives us so much variety to
talk about on a Monday. Scottie Scheffler, right, wins at
five under par after thirty six holes. The leader was
Victor Hovland at nine under part. You know, I mean,
I mean, what an awesome weekend. And I know that
the guys are complaining in that, you know, like maybe

(03:00):
it was too much on the edge or YadA YadA,
But you know what, we don't get this every week,
and the fact that they were tested in a different
way and some of the guys really liked it, Like
a Lee Westwood said, you know what, it's great when
you know driving accuracy is actually rewarded, you know, and
like those things mean something. So I think Scottie Scheffler,
great young champion, great for the game, you know he was.

(03:21):
His coming out party was the Ryder Cup when he
beat John rom And you know what, I think, obviously
that really gave him some self confidence and the and
the guys a world beating. I mean, you look at
his major championships last year. His worst starting the major's
last year was Augusta. He was t eight Team Adam.
After that he goes p g A, tied eight, US Open,
tied seventh Open Championship, tied eight, the kids, legit. And

(03:46):
I keep an eye on him for those for those
master pools, just just saying, just say, I would tell
you there was a couple of cool, cool moments, um
And as you know, I watched the last four holes.
That was all I watched in the entire tournament. However, uh,
sometimes that's where the best stuff happens, right, And there
was still a chance for a playoff. There was still
a chance that that Scotty had to had to play

(04:06):
some more golf in order for to uh to to
to win there was Rory who looked good early in
the weekend in the week and then faltered. Uh, you
had Victor who faltered. You had had people sliding down
the leaderboard. But then you had this cool moment at
the end when Scotty's wife comes up and says, oh
my god, congratulations, it's so great. Hey, your grandma's here.
And they were trying to interview Scotti at the on

(04:28):
the eighteenth right there, and she he goes, really, where
where is she? And it was just it was like
a real human moment, you know. You you forget that
sometimes that these especially these these younger golfers that we
haven't heard their names a thousand times, right, that when
they win, it's a family moment, and grandma was there,
and it's just it's it's a it's really cool to

(04:49):
to see those type of moments. So Scottie, now, is
this is he just hitting hitting the right elements at
the right time here or is he truly Keith a
force to be reckoned with? Oh? I mean, just look
at the major finishes that I talked about last year
right there, Adam. I mean, the guy is a major force.
There's no doubt about it. Um he's figuring out how

(05:10):
to win, and he's getting it done and he's playing
well under pressure. I mean, you look at what happened
in what we like to call Adam TV or the
last four holes on Sunday, right, um, everybody else, you
know a lot of guys. We we get into all
these models and how to predict who's gonna win and
what's gonna happen. And without without going all read the
line on you, the one thing I said last week

(05:31):
is that there's fifty five greenside bunkers at bay Hill.
Sand will play a role. I'm not saying you have
to be an expert sand player like Gary player or something,
but sand will play a role in all of this.
And if you look at it in the end, Victor
Hovland was three or thirteen from bunkers. You saw what
happened to Gary Woodland right at the end of the day.
You have to be the most well rounded player. And

(05:53):
that like seventy ft lag putt on the eighteenth hole, right,
I mean, would you have been thinking, right what I've
been thinking. Yeah, I've had that put a zillion times,
like just for fun, that thing breaks like eight feet
left or right right, it's just going away from you,
back down towards the water. You have to put that thing,

(06:16):
and he would That would have been my thought, don't
kill this thing and let it break into the water.
That would have been my thoughts, sir. But he he came,
He came out when when it mattered most. So congratulations
Scotty Shuffler, who just continues to win. Throw this in
there four winning he won two point one six million dollars.

(06:36):
I have a late theme, so I just I want
to throw that in. Okay, and Grandma's here. You talk
about the humanity of it all. Where where the woman's asking,
she's interviewing him. She's like, how does it feel to
be number one in the FedEx cup points? It's like
so like and he's like, my grandmother's here, so feel later.
I love it. Yeah, alright, moving on to the LPG. Yeah,

(07:00):
it's back this h this past weekend, and that's that's
good for golf, It's good for everybody. And this is where, sir,
you come in to the storyline. Typically I listened to
about ten percent of what you say because I can't
understand it because it's so it's so high level, amazing content.
And I can't even fathom that somebody would know what
you know. However, I did listen to you on one

(07:20):
thing and that was an outright winner from read the
line on on on co and you were right, sir,
I was right. Forty dollars richer my kids can eat
this week. That's exciting. Jin Young Coo a winner the
l p g A uh this weekend. Tell me a
little bit about the HSBC Women's World Championship. Well, it's
like you said, Adam, it's just great to have the
lpg A back play and truly a world tour. The

(07:42):
over in Singapore last week, there in Thailand this week,
and the world's number one player showed up, and I
knew that she would. I think that she's just a
little bit motivated. You look at her last eight starts, Adam.
All right, you ready first first, six, first, first, second
six first, Alright. She hasn't she hasn't shot a round

(08:04):
above par since last July, alright. And they're making a
big deal about how she broke the rounds in the
sixties record because the round of sixty seven on Sunday
was her fifteen in a row. Well, the last time
she shot seventy was back in October, and that broke
a streak of fourteen rounds in a row where she
was going for the record of fourteen rounds at sixties.

(08:25):
So in her last thirty rounds, she's had one round
that's been seventy or higher and it was still below par.
She has twenty nine rounds in the sixties and it
just I mean, she closed with five birdies on six holes.
I mean, if you're into watching great golf, Jin Yung Co,
she's just unbelievable. She's crazy good. She's crazy good. She

(08:49):
she won their tour championship by hitting the last sixty
three greens in a row. Yeah, I mean, it's it's
it's unbelievable what she's able to do. And she won
by two. She stormed the field. I mean, it was just,
I mean, it's unbelievable. You know, those stats are earth shutter.
I haven't at sixty three greens and red in my career, okay, Keith,

(09:10):
And that is that unfathomable. So she is she is
one of those players that that comes around truly, uh
once in a lifetime. And I'm not positive that and
and this is this is my my denseness being spotlighted here.
I'm not positive that everybody really knows how good she is.

(09:33):
Because if this was any other p G a golfer,
this would this would be the storyline every single week,
and Dan Hicks would go horse giving the same stats
that he gives every single week, talking about this, this is,
this is next level golf, and Haizinger would comment on
le mean, he'd be wrong, right, and they would somehow,

(09:56):
I have they would somehow bring it back to Tiger.
That was to me, I want to go back for
just one half second speaking of Tiger, right, there's a
point here though. Tiger was an unbelievable winner, and he
was a great, great player, legendary player, Hall of Fame
player this week, right, he's gonna get inducted, But he
didn't play with this level of precision he was. He was,

(10:17):
He was an all world probably the greatest winner and
champion of all time, up next to Jack. But the
way Jin Young Coo plays like a surgeon, it's unbelievable.
She doesn't miss any shots. It's like Ottka all over again.
We haven't seen this level of precision in a long time.
And you gotta, you gotta really give her credit. It's

(10:37):
she's unbelievable. All right, let's move on. Um. I was
gonna make a make a kind of a cool tie
in there. Uh something I was annoying? Okay, well it's
that's such a positive show, Keith. I don't want to
bring the Adam negativity into this, because God forbid, you
will be upset with me and this will ruin our
chemistry today and I don't want that. I don't think

(10:58):
America wants that. Hey, young co for winning. She got
two hundred thirty five thousand dollars. Huh, okay, interesting, Okay,
I'm seeing the theme third the Puerto Rico Open. No,
that's not right. What is it? Keith, give me, give
me the stature. I don't know much about this story

(11:19):
other than there was a guy that needed to play
very well in order to continue playing golf for the
rest of his life. He did, he won the damn thing,
and now he got his tour card. Keith, give us
the actual facts, please. Two thumbs up for Ryan Brem
and his wife Chelsea. She was caddying for him on
the bag, first time in like ten years that a
husband wife team had one. But more importantly, he was

(11:42):
on a minor medical exemption. So last year during the
Zurich which is in April, that's the one down in
New Orleans with the teams and the walk up music
and everything. Uh, he had COVID nineteen, got really sick
and you know had to you know, withdraw from the
tournament and he needed another start. So he gets it
here in Puerto Rico. He needs to finish first or

(12:02):
second place alone in order to keep his card. And
he's played in about seventy tournaments or so on the
PGA Tour. And the guy wins by six. He wins
by six. I mean he was leading by three going
into Sunday, but then he birdies five of like the
first eleven holes on Sunday. Um in a storm. They
had like a weather delay and everything. Kind of a

(12:23):
crazy round and Ryan Brewn gets it done with his
wife on the bag. Um. Just a great wholesome story
there in golf again goes back to the theater of
golf down in Puerto Rico. He won it twenty under,
Scottie Schaffler won it five under. There's all different sorts
of things that can that can happen. You can have
the precision of Jim Young co. This is why golf

(12:45):
is so cool. And I'm so happy that my you know,
it's been a part of my life for so long
now he Uh, what's his named? Brenton Ryan brewn Right,
Ryan had life changing moment over the weekend. Right, that's
a life changing moment. And to think of the pressure
and the hey, you gotta win. You gotta first or

(13:06):
second in this tournament by the way, you know, go
get him, have a great round. Uh, That's that's pressure.
And then it's, hey, you gotta go first or second
this round in order to keep playing golf at a
high level or you're gonna be back in Q school. Uh.
There's there's pressure there that that is unimaginable. But that
changed his life, and Scottie Scheffler life probably changed again

(13:27):
with with two point three million dollars and as well
as his second win in three starts, he's now a name,
endorsements the whole thing. Right, Golf has those moments that
can change your entire life in one weekend. Uh, And
I think it's fantastic. Look at your life this weekend.
That's the first time you've ever won a golf bet.

(13:50):
Not necessarily true, but not necessarily true, however, it was.
It was a it's the first time I've been on
the l p G A, and it's and and and
so I'm one for on my LPJ betting. So that's
pretty damn good. Uh, And that's thanks to you, Keith
and read the line dot com um Ryan Graham one
six hundred and sixty six thousand dollars for the Puerto

(14:12):
Rico Open, first place, all right, And I keep bringing
this up today because let's go do that again. So
hold on a second, let me make sure I get
the math right here. So you said six hundred sixty
six dollars that they couldn't have rounded that up or down.
I don't want to say I'm not saying it again,
but I'm just telling you what the facts are, all right.
So the reason I keep bringing up the money this
week not so much to say that that, you know,

(14:34):
Jin Yungko being so good only got two hundred and
some thousand. But we are coming into Players Championship week, alright.
One of the stories of the fall is how much
they upped the purse. This is the largest person ever
in golf. It's twenty million dollars this coming week. Down
there TPC Sawgrass. So when you tune in for Adam
TV in the last four holes on Sunday, you are

(14:57):
going to need You're gonna need a serious mop, my friend,
really clean up twenty million dollars. First places three point
six million dollars. Right. The largest purse ever before was
last year's US Open at twelve point five. And there's
been a lot of talk about money in golf. Well,
let's see if these guys can handle it. I can't
wait for this week. It's gonna be a great Monday too,

(15:18):
as we break down TPC coming up in a week
from now. Keith Stewart from ESPN Radio and read the
line and my co host and really a friend I
would call you at this point, uh here at sticking.
Haack reacts, Madam Grub thanks everybody for listening. To enjoy
your day and we'll see you next Monday. Enjoy the
Players Championship this weekend. See later, everybody,
