Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntire.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is up, Straight Fire player, It's me Jason McIntire,
Straight Fire for Thursday, October the second. Oh my gosh,
do we have a day in sports? Folks? Listen. I
know we don't do a lot of baseball on the podcast.
We'll do some Otani, we'll sprinkle in some Aaron Judge,
some hot button issues. But man, today's gonna be a good, good,
(00:34):
good day of baseball. Three game threes like win or
season over right, and then you have Thursday Night football
Rams Niners. Wait till you hear about what's going on
with the Niners. Holy hell. And then to cap things off,
I got a big, big men's league basketball game. We're
not gonna be able to stream it unfortunately, no no
(00:54):
Netflix deal for this league. But you know, we're clearly
the best team. It's only a fourteen league this year,
but we're missing three guys and we're playing this guy
who played point guard USC and he talks. He's awesome.
His dad talks a lot of trash and now coaches
the team. So I gotta lock in for that. But
I do want to start with the NFL because Rams
(01:15):
Diners historically has been an awesome matchup shanahan and McVeigh.
We know they know each other well. For a while
Shanahan dominated and then now McVeigh is kind of surging,
and then as if it's the Niners are not in
enough trouble. Have you seen the injury report for this one?
Rock Purdy Wednesday ruled out. It'll be Matt Jones, who's
(01:38):
not even one hundred percent. Maybe he remember he had
the ankle injuries suffered two weeks to ago in the
Arizona game, he was hobbled. Who's he gonna be thrown to?
Robbi Christian McCaffrey. Hopefully McCaffrey doesn't overdo it. I think
this will be probably fifteen targets for McCaffrey. I would
honestly ten for Brian Robinson. And that's because Juwan Jennings
(01:59):
will not play. He's been ruled out. And Ricky Pearsall,
the young kid who's actually shown well this season, he
has been ruled out. So you don't have wide receiver
one in Ayu, you don't have wide receiver two in Pearsall.
You don't have wide receiver three. In Jinnings. You don't
have tight end one in George Kittle. Guys, you know
(02:20):
there's no way any coach would hunt a game. That's
it's unheard of, right, And there's no way any coach
would punt a divisional game, especially against someone you cared,
you know, and you know, well, right, but all these
guys out and it's like, geez, if you overdo it
with McCaffrey, your season's gonna be it's gonna be done.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
You lose McCaffrey.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
In addition, all these and I don't care about the
three and one start. I don't care about the easy schedule.
I don't see you bouncing back from that. And so
this line has surged from Niners three and a half.
I'm sorry Niners with three and a half point underdogs,
they're now getting nine in Vegas, and I don't know
that that's enough now. I was texting with my buddy
(03:08):
Ta because he early in the week kind of sniffed
this out, and he was like, I think you have
to bet Rams minus three and a half. I waited.
I was like, ay, my p but he's my guy.
You know. I got fears all, I got Jennings. And
then I see it go up to four and a half.
I was like, oh, damn, so I grabbed some four
and a half. Next thing, you know, it's six and
a half before perty was ruled out. I was like, damn,
(03:29):
so I got some more six and a half. So
I am loaded to the gills on this one. And
you know that never ends well when you go overboard
like that. So just to recap, so Shanahan, if you
date back to twenty nineteen, it was Niners win, Niners win,
Niners win, Niners win, Niners win, Niners win in overtime,
(03:51):
Rams twenty to seventeen in that epic NFC Championship game.
I was there. I just it was an awesome scene.
And then the next year Niners win, Niners win. The
last three meetings Rams, Rams and Rams now they were
Rams by one, rams by three, rams by six. And
(04:12):
some of these are kind of wacky. For instance, last
year it was only field goals really really of the game.
I think that was on Thursday night. I'm fairly certain
one of these.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Was. No.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
That was a week eighteen game tost in there. That
was Wentz versus Donald. Yeah, Donald, Remembery started for the Niners.
So some wackiness. I just don't see a world where
the Rams don't win this game, right, I'm considering them
a survivor, But again, it's like, do you want to
burn Rams? If you're in a survivor. You look at
week nine, Rams host the Saints, they will probably be
(04:51):
ten and a half point favorites or whatever. RAMS defensive
front is just a beastly and they're going to be
attacking a hobbled mac Jones. It's gonna be like one
of those wounded animals on the Serengetti that you know
is just cooked and it's like, oh my gosh, that
guy's toast. Just wait, wait, somebody's gonna show up and
grab him. And I don't know that mac Jones is
going to be able to survive. Back there, I'm trying
(05:14):
to look at the depth chart for the Niners because
I think Jacob Cowen a young guy. I don't even
know if he's healthy as of now. It looks like
they will be going with Kendrick Bourne, who had a
brutal drop last week, DeMarcus Robinson, he ain't getting no separation,
the Immortal Sky More of Chiefs Fame, and then MVS.
(05:38):
Maybe MVS beat you over the top for one. Yeah,
Jacob Cowing's on ir they got nothing. I mean, what
would you get ten targets for Jake Tungus, who nobody
had heard of before that Seattle opener. So Rob listen,
I know this is a big one out here in La.
It's that so Fi. I guess the night before I
think Dua Lipa is having a concert at so Far.
(05:59):
I know that you're Demo rub By. The way, if
you follow dual liip on ig. She is a great
great Instagram. I'm like a huge fan.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You know, I'm a huge I'm trying to go to
the concerts, are you really? Yeah? Yeah, I'm really trying.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
A great catalog.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
She got hits on top of hits on top of hits,
and and and I've been telling the missus that I
would love for my oldest first concert be du A Leap.
But she's like, well, it's too provocative. You can't be
taken here to go see that.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
I'm like, oh, so that's that. Who's the provocative? Which Sabrin?
Is it Serena Carpenter?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Sabrina Carpenter is really bad?
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Or but yeah, yes, Serena.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
But it's like I've been on the you know, these
various secondary markets, and I can see tickets as low
as like thirty eight dollars from you know, Thursday morning.
So if I play my cards right, I feel like
if I want to go like Saturday night, like one pm,
two pm, check, I might be in the twenties at
that point. They don't have to be great seizing, you
know what I mean, Like they'n got to be great
(06:51):
seats for a six year old, and we're you.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Know, they projected, they projected on the big screen, so
it doesn't really matter. I will say, so it's gonna
be you and your daughter or.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Wow, I would like to as long as as long
as the wife.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Gives the okay, yes, well I'll just say this. If
it's just you and the daughter, bruh, well that's gonna
be tough for like your kid going to the bathroom.
But I did go to a Taylor Swift concert, and
I think I went to one other concert at SOFI
that was and the ladies. It was just outrageous, Like
I don't think you should go without the wife.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Bro. Well, okay, so let me. I'm just looking at
up here. Dua Lipa is not playing at SOFI. She's
not big enough, she's not Taylor Swift's going to be
at the Forum, so right across the street.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Oh, Forum's a good venue. I just saw Dave Matthews
there a little while where it is. Wait, how was
dua leep? But not big enough? She got over a
million followers on the.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
Ground, I know, but I mean if out of stadium
is much different?
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Uh oh yeah, the Forum is good. Oh Man Forum
is a nice setup. I like it a lot.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Yeah, it's small, it's intimate. But back to football. Yeah,
this whole situation with the Niners is bizarre. And we
talked about this, you know, maybe three weeks ago, where
I said, you know, I don't like to call for
people's job, especially the guy who don't get the multi
million dollar contracts, like the coaches and the players and
that kind of stuff. But whoever their strength and conditioning coach,
(08:09):
Maybe fire up the LinkedIn buddy, Maybe get the resume going,
Maybe hit up hot jobs dot com. Because you are
terrible at this. This is not a this year problem.
This is year in and year out, and the only
time that they were relatively healthy here in the last
five years, they made a run to the Super Bowl. Like,
you can't bake this in every single year you have
(08:31):
to where you're gonna be missing key players for several
games at a time, and this whole situation heading into
Thursday Night football. I'll tell you this. I'm an avid
fantasy player, just like you are. I was talking to
or not talking. I was listening to Matthew Berry's podcast
on Wednesday, and one thing he mentioned was, don't be
(08:55):
surprised if, because it's a Thursday night game, because you're
so short handed and we're expecting the Rams to roll
in this one, that Christian McCaffrey's worklow gets cut in half.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
In half.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Yep, let's see Brian Robinson Junior take on a lot
of work, especially if the game gets away from us early.
Because you know what happened last time they were this shorthanded.
I believe it was Wink one and Christian McCaffrey had
thirty plus touches in that game. If you have any
aspirations for winning that division or making some noise here
in the NFC, you cannot run him rough shot on
(09:30):
a Thursday night on a short week, when you're this shorthanded,
you can do it so the Niners. I know, people
don't want to punt the game. You don't want to
do that because it sounds bad, But there are ways
that you can navigate this situation where you say, hey,
Brian Robbins is going to get fifteen touches. We are
going to run the ball, We're going to take the
play clock down to three every single time, and we're
(09:51):
going to try to limit possessions every single snap and
hope that when we get to the fourth quarter we've
done a good enough job defensively where instead of us
being down by fourteen seventeen points, we're only down by
ten and we can give the illusion that we were competitive.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I actually don't hate that.
Uh you know what I do hate is I think
I have Ricky Piersall or Juwan Jennings on like all
of my fantasy teams and Rob with Bys kicking in.
This is the brutal week. I mean, remember Neighbors is done,
(10:27):
Tyreek Hill's done. I mean, are you taking a flyer
on Taekwan Thornton this week? You going Hollywood Brown, Troy Franklin,
Like that's how bleak the waiver wire is? Bro. I
need a name Rob. I'm gonna try Tory Wharton, but
he's such a non factor.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
I'll tell you what. One guy I'm actually starting this
week and my competitive.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Fox let me guess, Let me guess, Luke McCaffrey.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
No, that's in my other league. That's in my fourteen
team league. But no one guy that I'm actually starting.
And it's because Pearsall's out. I have some other injuries
throughout my team, but Pierceall was gonna be my last
receiver there. I'm gonna start from the Titans alec i
am an Ore.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Oh yeah, yeah, the rookie.
Speaker 3 (11:10):
So I got to put him in there as a
flex and you know, hopefully I can get eight to
nine points out of them. Stay alive because you know,
with the buys and everything like that, Like it's real
in these fantasy streets.
Speaker 1 (11:18):

Speaker 2 (11:31):
There's just so many injuries around the league and nothing.
I mean, listen, I'm gonna be real with you. I'm
a Yankee fan. We'll talk baseball in a second. I
this is gonna this game's gonna it's tough to get
excited about. I know historically it's like a Rams Diners
contenders every year. Coaches, It's just like, when you start
telling me these guys, I'm like, I hope this is
kind of a painless one and and you know, Seemac
(11:54):
gets a touchdown or give me fifteen points and then
rest the second half. I don't know what the interest
levelayers here. Frankly, you know Andre's Cubs do or Die
one more interesting obviously. Yankees Red Sox. You guys know
the history there. Yeah, you know. I don't need to
go over that. Those are two incredibly interesting series. Now
(12:16):
real quick, I'll just say my history with baseball. Rob.
I know you're a big Dodger guy, but I grew
up in Northern Virginia and I was a Yankee fan
because I was like, I don't want to root for
the freakin' Orioles. I was born in New York. I'm
a Yankee guy, and the Yankees always stunk, right yead
Don Mattingly was my guy, and then it was just
a bunch of jokers. They were terrible, and then we
hit the gold mine in the nineties with the Jeter
(12:38):
Birdie Williams Posada Tino Martine like it was just perfect
and they go on this epic run and I'm living
in uh well, I was in New Jersey, but I've
been over this. I lied to girls to say I
lived in New York City because they want to. If
they're like, oh, you're bridging tunnel will have off, I'm like,
all right, fine, I live in New York. He lies.
(13:01):
And you know you'd be in the city in the fall.
All the colleges are back NYU f T. You know,
people from Columbia come downtown and it's just amazing and
fall New York City and the Yankees dominating. There's just
nothing like it. And I will say, Rob last night,
I'm transfixed to the TV. It is I think it
(13:22):
was the eighth inning and it's not looking good for
the Yanks. And then Jazz Chisholm, who again, I'm don't
follow baseball like I used to. I got an extensive
card collection, me and my brother, and I just I'm
not as into baseball as I used to. Chisholm walks,
and then this guy ropes a single into the corner
and I'm and you know, you just see the highlight
(13:43):
and Chisholm's on his horse. He's he looked like Willie
Mays Hayes in Major League Wesley Science obviously, And I'll
just say I stood up. I'm cranking the volume on
the surround sound and You're like, come on, come on,
And it was just one of those like baseball moments
in the post and he slides and barely beats the
tag bedlam in the Bronx, and I'm just like, this
(14:06):
is yes, you're going crazy. And meanwhile, you know, I
go to Dodgers games out here, Rob, you go to
Dodgers games. It's fun. But postseason baseball is next level.
And I just thought Lank's win was epic. It almost
makes me wonder. And again, I know there's gonna baseball
fit purest will hate this, but Rob, if they chopped
I don't know, and they won't thirty games off the
(14:29):
regular season and made an extended the postseason a little
bit instead of a three game series, you made it
I don't know, seven. Don't you think that it would
It would enhance the playoffs because the regular season is
tough to get excited about Game one thirty seven. You know,
it just is. But I mean last night and today,
I mean Cubs Padres is gonna be wild because Cubs
(14:52):
fans are all juiced up. The Padres, I think are
probably the better team I have any I'm not betting
on baseball. I think it's crazy. I hear friends doing it,
and I'm like, y'all are crazy. Rob, you can get
into the interesting intricacy is a bullpen action because you
guys on your show, odd couple. I know Rob Parker
is a big baseball honk, but I don't do you
get as into it as you do, say NBA or NFL.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
I'll tell you what. We've talked about this before, and
you totally disagree with me. But I'm gonna double down,
triple down, quadruple down here for my money, the MLB
postseason is the best playoff in all sports, above way above.
Marked mannis yes, because it's better than the NBA. It's
better than the NFL. The only thing that's comparable to
(15:39):
me is hockey. But because I don't necessarily understand the
sport that well, it's hard for me to get that excited.
But payoff hockey is great too. Playoff postseason baseball is
high drama, high tension every pitch, and that's something you
just don't get in the NBA because the game's too fluid.
It's up and down. Usual in football, you can have
(16:02):
like a three yard carry, then a six yard carrier,
then a punt and then like you can go six
minutes with really nothing happening in the grand scheme of things.
Right in baseball, you can go six minutes. You can
go sixty minutes with quote unquote nothing happening. But the
difference is every pitch you can feel like the hairs
on the back of your neck tingle up, like this
(16:22):
is the one Like if we get a hit here,
this changes everything. Oh we get one strike here, you
know we're okay. And you can't duplicate that in other scores.
So to your point, if there was a way for
them to again, they'll do it well. They could cut
thirty forty games of the regular season and add I
mean when I add around, But to your point, every
(16:43):
series now is seven games in the postseason, I think
it would be a phenomenal idea. And and last, but
not least, I'll say this. You mentioned the Jets doesn't play,
which was great, Like that would if you just if
you haven't seen it yet, watching the highlight on Twitter
or YouTube whatever you can going different angles to you, right,
compared it to Willy mays Hayes. Fun fact for you
for further people who were in the biz. You know
(17:07):
why in Major League every Willy mays Hayes was shot
in slow motion.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Because Wesley Sipe says slow.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
He's unbelievably slow. He's ridiculously slow. They said he was
one of the slowest actors they had out there, like
bar none say well.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
No, wait, hold on, which did he make first? White
men can't jump? Or Major League?
Speaker 3 (17:30):
Because in major they can't jump Major League Now he
has skills, right, he looks like it obviously in white
men can't jump. He's athletic, he can yeah do things.
But in terms of just straight up speed, he was
really slow. So the only way they can get away
with it was to shoot everything he did in slow motion.
And he's pumping his arms and making that face so
it looks like he's moving fast. We really not so
(17:53):
for you to compare jazz chism to Willie mays Hayes
in a weird way, it's kind of disrespectful.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
No apologizes. Goodness, I can't believe I would do such
a such a thing, but I am curious quickly.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
With baseball go ahead. You know you stayed ably watching
the Dodge game. Force started recording any faith whatsoever in
their bullpen at this point.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Well, that's what I was gonna ask you. So Dodgers
take out the Reds in two, but in both games
their bullpen gave up a bunch of stuff. I think
it was in the eighth inning both times, and it
just leads to the panic. Now, Rob, you you've played sports,
you know how this stuff goes like it. Stuff can
get in your head pretty easily. If you miss a shot,
(18:34):
you can't make free throws, chuck not block throwing from
second base to first you get the yips. I just
wonder if the entire bullpen it's in their head, like
we haven't delivered a month. Everybody's saying, well the problem
and then boom in the boat games that you survive
against the Reds because the red stink And the Dodgers
posted what ten and eight or something like that or
eight whatever whatever. They scored a lot, so you don't
(18:55):
have to worry about it. They're gonna have to worry
next round, right, isn't it against the Phillies next?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Yes, sir it is, yes, sir, And if you've been
following the Dodge watch, I know you do. But it's
America who's not or hasn't been. About a week ago,
Dave Roberts said in his postgame press conference that the Dodgers'
bullpen was pitching scared and they can't do that. You know,
you can't do it. You gotta you can't have fear
(19:21):
when you're in this game. And he's totally right. I
maintained as soon as he did that he laid the
groundwork to have games like he had here in Games
one and two of this series. Because now it's in
their heads. Every single player that got picture that comes
out of the pen and can't find the strike zone
for a bit or gives up a hit here, or
in which case weppitsol last night, an untimely error to
(19:43):
the first batter leads the guys on second base like
right off rip Suddenly that that doubt creeps into your mind.
And that's the thing about baseball is because every pitch
is so important and every you know, it matters so
much more in the postseason than any other sport. It's
feel easy for these guys to you know, get shook. Yeah,
(20:03):
and the Dodgers bullpen is really shook. And if you
are a Dodgers fan, I don't know how you feel
good heading to a series against the Phillies when you know,
maybe we don't have to get runs off the starters.
But if we can be patient and grind out at
bats and work these guys into the count so that
they can't give you seven eight innings, maybe they can
give you only five or six. You can tattoo that
(20:26):
bullpen real easily.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Yeah, seems like it's a big problem.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in
the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio
dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to
listen live.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
I'd want to close with a topic and listen. There's
no easy way to say this. This is difficult, but
something seems off with Shador Sanders. Now. We talked about
earlier this week about Oh, Chador, maybe you should have
gone to Baltimore. You could be starting this week or
maybe beats out Cooper Rush for the back of it.
I don't know. But after it was announced by the
(21:05):
Browns that Dylan Gabriel was going to be their starter,
the media you know, they didn't go to Joe Flacco
for a quote. They went to the third stringer who's
getting practice team reps. They went to Shador Sanders for
a quote, which I understand that's a little weird. Why
are you going to But then again, he's famous, right
(21:27):
Shadoor Sanders, Partially because he's diance on, Partially because he
was a Heisman Trophy candidate last year, Partially because he
had like a watch celebration people were gravitating towards the
Colorado Buffaloes. He had a crazy NFL Draft party when
he slid to the fifth round. Like, some of it was, hey,
he was born into this, and some of it as
(21:47):
he invited it, And who wouldn't want to be a
celebrity at twenty one and rich and taking five million
or whatever it is in Nil. So the media goes
to him rob and everybody's seen a clip by now
it's got like seventeen million views or whatever. He's speaking,
but no words are actually coming out of his mouth.
He's miming or pantomiming his answers, and at first you're like, wait,
(22:10):
what is this a joke? Now he's doing it with
a smile, he's not angry, he's like smiling and happy
and affable. But after answering the first question, like he
gets asked again and he does like the same thing,
and then someone else asks him and he does the
same thing. And at this point you're like, what is
going on here?
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Now?
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Listen? I know people instantly you're like, what about when
Marshaw and Lynch said, I'm just here so I don't
get fined. It's a freaking running back who cares. At
the time, it was kind of funny, But you're a
running back. Running Backs aren't the face of the franchise.
I mean, maybe Walter Payton because he was an all
time great, Maybe Barry Standards, maybe Jim Brown, Marshall Lynch
(22:51):
and then that he's a great player Ian in that category. Okay,
Emitt's Smith. I don't even know who's the face of
the franchise and at Michael Irvin, Troyeko, whatever. But quarterbacks
they're the ones you invest a lot of money in.
They're the ones who were always at the podium. They're
the biggest hero and then the biggest goat. That's just
how it goes. Quarterbacks when your games and lose your games,
they and they get paid for it, right, they get
(23:12):
paid handsomely. They're the highest paid players sports. Well I'm sorry,
highest play players in the NFL. But Rob, what's weird
about this is I couldn't tell if Shaduur was like
somebody put him up to this? Did Dion say this?
I didn't realize this, but I guess Rex Ryan went
(23:33):
in on Shadur a week or a month or whatever
it was. I don't know. I don't follow Rex ryan commentary.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
It was on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Oh was it that recently?
Speaker 3 (23:41):
What did he from Monday? It was on Monday off
of his high.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I see, that's the thing. I don't even care about
Rex Ryan, So I didn't even look it up. But
I don't know what he say.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
So on Friday, you'll recall, Schaduur went viral when he
said that he believed, and we talked about on the show,
that he could play quarterback better than a lot of
the C and QB once that's the way they've been playing.
And you know, because it was he didn't if he
watched the full context of the interview, he didn't say
anything wrong. Really like the way he was talking. He's
(24:10):
actually very media savvy, you know, if you realize if
you've ever listened to him talk like, he's well trained.
He kind of knows what to say. He's very complimentary
of his teammates and then of the snaff things like that.
But one thing he did say was he things he
played better than a lot of other quarterbacks. So, following
the browns Ugly loss, Joe Flacco played bad and Rex
(24:30):
Ryan went off on Shador Sanders saying, like, you know,
you shouldn't be saying things like that, you'd be worried
about learning the playbook and YadA, YadA, YadA. Right, So, Shadoor,
for whatever reason, and again this is guy who is
very well trained with the media, decided the best way
to combat that kind of narrative about him that he
talks too much and he says too many things, that
(24:51):
he's talking out of his neck and he shouldn't because
he's not good enough. Decides it'd be better to pantomime
his answers to the reporters on Wednesday, and in doing so,
I think actually made it worse. Backfired, Yes, so I
don't know if he should have done that. And again,
it's just so odd that he would have two such
(25:13):
egregious missteps considering all off season he's only said and
done the right things all that. I I mean, I mean,
you know what I mean to the media about his
role on the team and being thirty public. OK. Yeah,
I feel like he's done a good job of of,
you know, towing the company line, and for him to
(25:35):
have these two egregious missteps within a week of each other,
it's maybe he's just really frustrated at this point.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Yeah, clearly. So first of all, I missed the rat
I don't know if we talked about that, No, I was.
I totally missed it. So Sunday he said I could
be playing better quarterbacks on.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
A Friday Friday he said that leading into the game.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
That's I mean, that's kind of crazy, bro. I mean,
you're on the pract the.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Squad and he doesn't even get full time practice squad reps.
He splits them with what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (26:05):
I wonder if that's why we heard Deshaun Watson the
window is open for him to return from Puplist or
whatever the hell he's on. And I wonder if that's
why they did that so quickly with him. Watson just
kind of squatched the shud dore thing. But I guess
that's how far he's fallen is that it didn't even register.
(26:25):
I didn't even see that. Now here's the weird thing, Rob,
because of how do I put this delicately? A certain
individual who occupies the Oval office. We've gotten to a
place in America where you're either with someone or you're
against them. We're very divided on literally every topic. There
is no gray area, there is no well I kind
(26:46):
of like him. You either hate him or you're a fanboy,
right or a staan or whatever whatever the phrase is.
And so the commentary I've had on Shoudour this week
is just like, I don't get it. What's he doing? Boy?
Bad decision to punt on the Ravens, blah blah blah.
And so so why are you a hater? Why are
you racist? Well, I'm like, whoa hold up? I back
(27:07):
at the draft said I would take Shaduur first. I
said I would do that. I was I was like,
you got to take him, not to find if you
don't want to take it first, trade back a couple
of spots and take him there. But I said, I
think he's a first round quarterback. I would take him
now again, I'm not interviewing him at the combine, but listen,
I was not on an island Daniel Jeremiah. Everybody who
(27:30):
does the draft, I find ninety eight percent who do
who talks draft and evaluates the place. Everybody had him
first round, at worst second round. Nobody had him fit.
So I'm a hater because I really thought highly of him.
And then I'm like, oh my gosh, the entire NFL's
passing on him. And then he goes out and get
speeding tickets and then he looks okay or whatever, nothing special,
(27:53):
and he I don't want to say, he keeps stepping
in it, Rob Is that a fair Do you think
he stepped in it a lot lately in.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
The last week. Absolutely, But prior to that, I mean,
the speaking thing is obviously notwithstanding, that's a totally different conversation.
But the way that he has handled himself, at least publicly,
with regards to this whole situation and this groundswell that
he's being sabotaged and he's not getting a fair shake
and what's going on in Cleveland, Like he's only said
the right things, and he's like, hey, I control what
(28:21):
I can control. I'm just trying to be the best
player I can be. You know, he even mentioned all
this is doing to give me more time to bake,
so I can cook, you know, and get myself better
ready to go from my numbers call to be ready
to play. Right, And now it's maybe because Joe Flacco
was so bad, has been so bad that he's like
bro like at this point, it's getting comical.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:42):
And then now on Wednesday, you know, Joe Flacco gets benched,
yet Chador doesn't get elevated up the depth chart. He's
still number three, which is crazy.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Well, let me ask you where was Tyler Schuck drafted
second round, many many rounds ahead of Shador? How come
there's no microphones in his face after every loss? Tyler, Hey,
Spencer Ratler stunk up the joint? Are you what do
you think? How come we're not getting that? Well, a
Tyler Shu could deliver a pizza to your house, you
(29:13):
would know who his facts, right, I mean, I don't
know who he is. All I know is he's like
twenty five or twenty six, and uh, you know he
bounced around like multiple colleges. I don't even know why.
I don't even know why they drafted him, But nobody's
asking him question. He's the literal backup rob yet the
media is going to the third stringer. Now, listen, it
(29:36):
cannot be tough if your dad is super famous. Okay,
Michael Jordan's kids famously struggled with some stuff. You know,
we know Lebron's son, Bronnie is going through some tough
stuff because your dad is legitimately a big I'm not
putting Dion in the category of Jordan or Lebron, but
guess what, he ain't that far behind, right, right? Am
(29:58):
I going overboard Robie?
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Terms of football, he's right there?
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yeah, I mean, two sport athlete, one of the best
cornerbacks ever, Hall of Fame, Hall of Famer, Like, he's
the guy's unbelievable. And it's tough when your dad is
a legend and you're not going to live up to that. Man,
it's just damn near impossible, and so that makes it tough.
But I guess you have a choice. You could recede
into the background, right, or you could embrace it. He
(30:23):
chose to embrace it, and when the goal was good,
it was freaking awesome. Right, Colorado, You're on top of
the world and now when it's not going good man,
it sucks because you know, the media loves to build
you up and tear you down, right, that's what they do.
And I know I'm saying the media and people are like, Jake,
that's you. I'm just calling him like I see it.
Charua goes out there and crushes hey man, wonderful. I'm
happy for him. It's a tough spot for him. And
(30:46):
I don't know, Rob, I'm kind of trying to make
a decision here. Maybe we just don't talk about him
again until he actually throws in an NFL pass? Do
you think is that too hard of a line?
Speaker 3 (30:55):
That is a borderline impossible, because you know, as much
as we try to be objective and we want to
say like we're elevated sports talk, we're also in the
ratings business. And Shador Sanders is great for ratings. So
as long as ESPN Cleveland, because they're the ones who
keep doing this, they're credit to them. They interview him
(31:15):
basically every week at his locker, like five six minutes
of straight just them and him, nobody else around, and
Shadur usually says something and I promise you if Dylan
Gabriel struggles. We're gonna get some innocuous comment. It's gonna
get spun in such a way that it's gonna lead
the herd. It's gonna lead this podcast, and it's gonna
be great talking content.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
I mean, you could say when Dylan Gabe. Now here's
the other weird thing. The Browns are chosen to start
a rookie quarterback, not at home, not on the road
in London against the Vikings who have already been international
for a week, and Brian Flores is one of the
booth splitz happy coaches in the league. Like, how is
that a recipe for success?
Speaker 3 (31:57):
It's not. It's gonna be terrible. I don't get the Vikings.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
This is how you did that was smart? This is
how bad it is. Rob. I was down the chat
GBT rabbit hole trying to find out how Dylan Gabriel
does against pressure and blitzes. But there's no NFL atas,
so you have to go to Oregon, and the numbers
from say the oh House daycame last year the Rose
Bowl are horrific. I mean, unless Kevin Savanski will be
(32:24):
rolling that pocket and getting them on the move, Low
Bro is gonna be in some trouble. So I don't know. Man,
this is a tough spot for him, but I don't.
Maybe should, but I don't see. Do you see being
elevated to back up and Flacco kick to the third
I don't see them doing that.
Speaker 3 (32:39):
To you, I think that it would make sense for
them to do that. The problem is I see the
other side of it, where it's like, as soon as
we elevate him to two and Dylan Gabriel struggles, which
he is going to struggle at some point here in
the next couple of games, then it's like, hey, why
are you not starting Shador? And as long as they
keep him on third string, they can pre tax their investment,
(33:02):
so to speak. With Dylan Gabriel.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Jeez, it's it's wild. All right, fine, we will do
our best to not bring him up anymore, not to
make no promises. Yes, all right, we're back tomorrow. Good
luck to the Niners, but not too much luck. Go Rams.
