Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
This is Straight Fire with Jason McIntyre. What is up
Straight Fire, fam, It's me Jason McIntyre, Straight Fire for Wednesday,
September thirteenth. It's official, ladies and gentlemen, if you have
been under a rock for the last twenty four hours,
(00:30):
the New York Jets have lost Aaron Rodgers for the season,
torn Achilles. It's over, officially official. Robert Sala announced it
to the media on Tuesday, and it's a little depressing.
Not gonna lie NNGL as my seventh grader elects to say,
not gonna lie. And now we go on with Zach Wilson.
(00:52):
So I thought we'd bring on a former Jets player
to discuss because I know we have so many Jets
fans listening to the podcast. Kerry Rhodes was on that
team with Sanchez the first year Rex Ryan the defensive guru,
if you will, for a couple of years with the Jets,
and you know he talks a little bit about you know,
(01:13):
in the preseason Cary Rhodes. By the way, he was
engaged to this actress from Hall Pass. I totally forgot
about that.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
You have to go look up.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
She's like the blonde who own Wilson's interested in. I
think they got married, but they're no longer together. Not
that that's relevant here, but essentially, Carrie Rhodes picked Aaron
Rodgers to win the MVP and the Jets to go
to the super Bowl in the preseason. Obviously, Rogers can't
win the MVP. You had four plays for the season.
That being said, he's sticking with the Jets. He think
(01:41):
they can make a run. And I kind of sort
of do too. And I know I'm a Homer and
you're laughing and you're like Jay mac Oh, you're gonna
get such yourself up. No, No, I'm a realist. I
don't think Zach Wilson can get the job done. But
I also can envision a world where the defense keeps
generating turnovers. Last year they could not. This year, They've
already done it to Josh Allen, and see what they
can do to Dak keeps him in games and luck
(02:02):
breaks their way. Last year four and six in one
score games. I mean, they're not gonna go eleven or
no like the Vikings. But what if they go seven
and four in one score games and then they just
got to find three other wins and there's some weak
games on the schedule in October November. So this first
six games we gotta get through. We'll talk all about
with Kerry Rhoades. Just a quick thought on the Jets,
(02:23):
and yes, I know Zach Wilson. Nobody has faith in him.
So many texts from friends who are like, there's zero
chance THATAQ Wilson's gonna make it. He can't survive the
Jets got you gotta find somebody. The only names that
reporters have floated right now, Chad Henny's the big one
because he knows Nathaniel Hackett system. He played behind Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
He's a pro.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I just to me, you know, can he make plays
if you're down three and Chad Henny's got to go
to length?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Do you think he can pull that off?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Like it's one thing when you have Kelsey and some
other weapons that he had when he had to. I
think it was the Jet game last year, of the
playoff game where Mahomes got heard it was an ankle, Like,
I don't I don't know that I that Henny fully
inspires me. Now, Zach Wilson sure as hell doesn't. That
being said, you're telling me we can't go to the
XFL and try to unearth the next Kurt Warner who's
(03:17):
gonna fit like a glove into the system. Obviously you're
not gonna find an MVP in a future Super Bowl winner,
but just an unearthed gem like this is what the
scouting department's for, you know, this is what the front office.
You know, You've got a deep roster of dudes whose
job it is to scout. My job, it is my
job is to come up with takes, and that's what
(03:38):
I do. I'm an take machine, NFL, NBA, college football.
That's what I'm here to do. And there's guys who
out there are scouts. Find me a good quarterback that
nobody knows about, or who's got some potential or who
fits the system. There's gotta be someone there, just has to.
I refuse to believe there's nobody that the Jets could
bring in to push Zack Wilson or provide a back up.
(03:59):
I don't want to hear this, tim boy, you know,
come on, at any rate, let's get.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
To today's guest.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Carrie Rhoades, former NFL safety.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
You know a guy Jason likes to think he knows
everything when it comes to sports.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I know what sports dance wants, but for everything he doesn't.
He knows a guy who does. Let's just say I
know a guy who knows the guy who knows another guy.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
All right, let's welcome into straight fire.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
A guy you know who was on the podcast I
think last year or two years ago. He's a former
New York Jet obviously, that's why we love him.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
He's also Arizona Cardinals. Carrie Rhoades. Carrie, how are you, man, Jason.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
I'm doing well, man, I've been better, but you know,
doing all right today?
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (04:44):
So this is the day after Aaron Rodgers suffered an
achilles tear on the fourth play of the season. I
know I was very unwell much of last night. Despite
the win, it was great, but it's just like it's
a melancholy feeling. I don't know where are you on
the whole Aaron Rodgers has done. Zach Wilson's the guy
the Jets have a shot. Now, you picked the Jets
(05:06):
to go to the super Bowl in the preseason. Do
you still stand by that?
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (05:11):
So that question is a hard one today, right, I Mean,
the mood is melancholy. It's one of those things where
the excitement was so palpable, it was so real that
you know, they kind of get a gut punch early
and right away. To that nature is tough, but I
think you have to take a step back and realize
how good that team is around around Aaron, And obviously
(05:32):
Aaron's did so much to elevate their confidence the status
around the team. But they got players, so I'm not
off the train completely. It sucks the excitement is going
to be tapable, but I think that's a good thing.
I think that's a good thing for where the Jets
are right now. They have a chance to actually get
right back to work and they have a tough opponent
coming in this week that you have to get refocused
(05:53):
right away. So the talent around, the talent in that room,
the head coach, I believe in. So I don't think
there's seasons on yet super Bowl. I mean, obviously that's
a stretch at the moment until we see where Zach is.
But I'm not off the hype train completely yet.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
All Right, So there's a lot of layers here. We'll
try to cover all of them.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Carrie, I do want to start with Rogers. I played
pick up hoops out here in LA I've been around
guys who have popped their achilles, you know, Rogers age
or older, and uniformly they're all I'm done with basketball
pick up basketball.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I tried to find any quarterbacks Rogers age who popped
in achilles and came back. I couldn't find any. I
know Marino had one in his thirties, Vinny Testaverdi, and
they played. But again, Rogers thirty nine turning forty this year.
I'm curious, do you think Rogers tries to come back?
And do you know any any football players who pop
their achilles and what the rehab was like.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
I don't know any of that popped their achilles and
actually went through the rehab. I think it's obviously it's
an arduous task. I mean, I think you can look
at basketball more. Obviously that happens a lot. Kevin Durant,
and he came back and was steal Kevin Durant.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Right takes time.
Speaker 4 (07:05):
And even with Kevin Durant being the explosive bad thing
that he is and doing all the cuts, I mean,
he's still Kevin Durant. He can still score thirty points
in his sleep, right, football has gotten hard. I mean,
obviously being associated with the Jets. I know about Vinny,
and I know Vinnie well, and you know, it's it's
a position where it can be done. I think it's
gonna boil down to if mentally Aaron's ready to go
(07:28):
through that just to get back to do something that
he's already done at the high level and competed at.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
In won championship. So right, it's gonna be about the desire.
Can he do it? Yes?
Speaker 4 (07:37):
I mean I'm not in this in his in his
in his body, or scannedor's mind to know what he's thinking.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
But he can't. It can't happen.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
I mean, it's a guy who said he almost retired
before the Darkness Retreat. Then he comes out, he's like,
I'm ready to go, and then he gets traded to
the Jets. I don't know, it's kind of easy for
him to just say, you know what, I'm gonna power
down and ease into retirement.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I mean, this is a guy who every off season
has probably had a similar routine to get ready for
the season, and now all that's off kilter. I mean,
I don't remember the last time he missed significant time
with an injury, but this is essentially a ten month
twelve month injury.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Yeah, it's gonna be hard to be excited about something
and then it gets ripped from you. Obviously there's a
griefing process that's going to be, you know alone, when
did approach to kind of this thing happen? It's not
going to be fast. There's no chance to skip any steps, right,
so you have to be really really integrated in the journey.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
And I don't and I don't know if you know.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
This is not even a day after, right, So we're
speculating on something that's obviously a big, big deal, but
it's gonna need time. And for me, I mean, I
guess for me, and I think for a lot of
fans obviously, it's so excited to see him step in
and wear that green and white and have a chance
to win.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I don't think justin knowing him, we're saying draft class.
I know him.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
He's actually a friend of mine, and you know, I
know him a little bit, so to go out that
way probably wouldn't be and Aaron Rodgers thing to do.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
So we'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Let's get to Zach Wilson, who was a you know,
very high pick of the Jets.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Struggled, gave it a shot.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Second year, really struggled, got benched, got inactive. Then they
bring in Rogers. Clearly they didn't have faith in him, right,
and now he's the guy Robert Sala said today, that's
our guy. We're gonna look for backup quarterback help, but
we're gonna sin Chris william with Zach Wilson.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
I'm trying to think of like the Nathaniel Hackett situation.
He spent the entire offseason game planning for Aaron Rodgers.
In this offense, Zach Wilson ain't Aaron Rodgers. He can't
do any of those things. I just wonder how much
can they change on the fly. Is it very easy
to implement such a massive change at quarterback or is
this just mission impossible? And hey, Zach, we're gonna have
(09:58):
to condense the playbook. It's gonna be run passes because
clearly he still struggles reading defenses.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be Ah, what's the strength of
your team? Right? The strength of their team now isn't
the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Even coming into the season, obviously their defense was in
the was in the forefront.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
They were going to be good. We knew that.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
But you know, we have a quarterback like Aaron come
in and now it's not we have to play to
our only strength. You have two strengths, right, so I
think you take one of those strengths out of the equation,
you lean on your strength.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
And I think, you know, if Zach, you know, he.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Was growing into a position yesterday where it would have
been easy for them not to get that win and
for him not to play well and him to fold
after an interception and just kind of retreat to you know,
the Zacht that we know.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
But I think he stepped up. I think he played well.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
I think he played well with the circumstances, and you know,
I think he has learned a lot from Aaron and
you know, being able to step back, start to gain
trust the game with himself, but not just himself, for
his teammates in the organization as well. I mean, the
things I've heard is obviously you're not going to bad
mouth them now because they've got to go win with
the guy. But I think I think he's earned some
(11:07):
trust and I think he's you know, garnered some respect
a little bit here and now we got to see,
we got to see what happens in the games, obviously,
and that can change. But I think going into week two,
you got to lean on the guy that lost your
trust and now.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Has a chance to regain it. In you know, yesterday
it was a good step.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Yeah, you think he played well against the Bills.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
I don't know, man, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
So they get the fortuitous Garrett Wilson touchdown catch, which
is a bad throw by Wilson. Garrett makes an unbelievable play,
and then I think it was like the next player,
the second and next two or three plays later, Josh
Allen just costs the ball up right to the Jets,
runs into his own teammate, and the Jets are in business,
and then they win with a special teams touchdown. I
(11:50):
feel like Buffalo blew that game a thirteen to three lead.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
In the second half.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I don't know that Zach Wilson won that game. The
idea that Zack Wilson could have gone the link of
the field or hell even fifty yards in overtime to
get them in position for a game winning field goal,
I had no faith. I don't know how you could
after watching the guy in spots for two years. You
(12:14):
think Zach Wills can handle the Cowboys could compete with
the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Matter the Patriots are in two weeks.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
And that was the game last year where he was
awful and then refused to admit he was awful afterward,
and Salah was like, you're inactive, dude.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
We're moving on.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
We're gonna ride with Chris Streveler or whoever it was.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
That's right, Chris, the Chris Strebler game, he's we're gonna have.
We're gonna have a chance to see right away.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Right It's not one of those things where you have
to sit back and wait and see if you can
get it done. These weeks come fast, and so there's
not gonna be any choice for him to either sink
or swim.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
You get the opportunity. You got the keys right away.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
And you know, we've had all these positive I guess
conversations surrounding you know, Aaron, you know, tutoring him, getting
him ready to play, teaching them certain things to see
in certain situations. So you actually have a guy who's
been through those things to have those conversations with. And
just even from the press conference last night or hearing
(13:14):
Zach wilson't speak. He speaks differently, he cares himself a
little differently. It's not that arrogant. It's not that arrogant.
It's not that it's my team situation. He's one of
the guys, right and so you just have to get
to work. We won't know until we see next week. Obviously,
Dallas is a huge task. But but you know, and
we laugh about it because it is funny. It's to
(13:35):
be thrown into that situation right away. It's crazy. But
the Jets defense is Justice Sean, and so there's gonna
be a chance for him to show. Well, that doesn't
mean they're gonna win the game, but he has a
chance to build confidence against a team that made the
Giants look terrible. Because I don't, I know, we laugh
about Daniel Jones and that contract that he got the Giants.
(13:57):
I didn't think he deserved that. I don't think he's
that much of a better player than Zach Wilson.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Wait wait, hold up, Yeah, you say you don't think
Daniel Jones is that much better than Zach Wilson.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
I do not. I think I think Daniel Jones.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
What we saw last year from Daniel Jones is what
you're saying right now, right, Daniel Jones was put in
a situation where you had a stud running back.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
The Jets have that, they have two of them.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
They had a really good play making defense last year
and play caller on on in the Giants as well
with with Ryan, I mean with from the Baltimore guy,
the defensive cord thank you Martindale. And so we have
the same thing on defense here, you had a quarterback
if you tailored the game plan around. I mean Daniel
Jones made timely throws. He was more of a running quarterback.
(14:42):
He wasn't somebody that's gonna beat you with his arm.
And so you have the same similar situation here where
now we can see what Zach can do in this situation.
And then we moved there. But I don't think it's
that far off to think that this team still can
compete and play well.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Interesting now, you were on the Jets team, multiple Jets teams,
and one of the Mark Sanchez, my guy, he's out
here in LA he comes on the herd sometimes. Essentially
he was a game manager.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Now he was a.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Better college quarterback obviously at USC putting up big numbers,
but Rex Ryan had him game managing, hey, man, hand
the ball off to these great running backs, I think Ladaniy, Tomlinson,
Sean Green, Thomas Jones maybe, and don't screw it up,
don't throw interceptions. And they were able to do that
and get to the AFC title game twice. Yes, I know,
(15:31):
you know this is a different NFL twelve thirteen years later.
But can you hide your quarterbacks so to speak, or
his deficiencies and still make a run deep in the playoffs?
Speaker 4 (15:42):
Yes, you still can. You can still hide deficiencies. But
at the end of the day, the quarterback is gonna
have to win a couple of games for you. And
that's what happens.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Right.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
We got to the AFC Championship Game twice, one time
with me there, and that was Mark Sanchez's job.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Don't don't move the game. We're gonna be in the game.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
We're gonna have a chance to compete in most of
these in all these games with our defense and our
special teams. And so Zach Wilson's putting in a similar situation.
But he's gonna have to progress and he's gonna have
to be able to win some games when things get
rocket because the defense is going to have some games
where things aren't working for them either, and so can
he overcome some of those instances. But it's gonna be
(16:20):
It's gonna be interesting, man, I really I love the
underdog stories. I love stories where guys have a chance
to you know, they've been knocked down and got a
chance to get back up.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
And this is his moment right away.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
I mean a little bit sooner than we thought, but
it's here, it's their reality, and now it's time to go.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
That's a great point. I want to drill down on
Zach Wilson. I know this is probably gonna be too
nerdy for some people, but yeah, yeah, I was talking
to Sanchez about it and he's like, listen, we're in
year three and it doesn't look like Zach Wilson can
read his own defense. In against the Buffalo Bill's man defense,
he made a couple throws.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
You know, Garrett Wilson could win one on one.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
Zach's got a hose. He could make things happen. But
against the zone, he's not processing quick enough. He's making mistakes. Yeah,
and I start to look at dan Quinn in Dallas.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
What does dan Quinn do? Will a lot of cover one.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
A lot of man, a lot of cover three zone,
and it's like, okay, well, Zach's gonna be facing a
potentially elite defense with a lot of zone. How do
the Jets approach this game? Carry from an offensive standpoint?
Is this simply you can't just say let's run the ball.
You can't just say run, run, run.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
That's not gonna work. Dallas too good.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah, but is there an offense you can work with
Wilson maybe some short, quick first down throws to make
it manageable second downs? What can you do because you
don't want to make the mistakes.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah, that's it right there.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
I mean a lot of times when you go into
these games where you're playing against good defenses, you want
to put them. You want to put them in a
buying where you're able to get positive yards, positive games
on first down to make the rest of the game easy.
You know, I think the touchdown Opacity threw was a run, right.
So as an RPO option, you get to have a
chance to put these guys and put these dbs in
one on one situations where Jets have playmakers. So if
(17:56):
he's able to get these second and mediums and third
and short and have a chance to prolong these drives,
and they will have a chance.
Speaker 1 (18:03):
And so if they get behind early, it's going to
be ugly.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
But if they can keep the game tight in the beginning,
maybe get a you know, one crazy score to kind
of get the lead and get the cow get the
Cowboys in a different game, then that's a different store
for us.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, dek Prescott playing from with the lead. I mean
he was okay against the Giants. Remember he led the
league in picks last year and he still missed what
five games? So I'm not this like Jets are in
deep trouble. The line looks like it's nine and a half,
but it's all about Wilson, and I think it's a
bit of an overreaction. So you're with the Jets front
office carry and we're kicking around names. Okay, guys, we
got to get a backup quarterback for Zach. A veteran,
(18:41):
somebody who's proven they can be in some battles, Somebody
who we could trust if Zach is vomiting all over himself.
Is there any veteran out there A that you would
sign or B that you would consider trading for?
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Oh, trading, I don't see that happening.
Speaker 4 (18:56):
I think it will take too much time for the
guy to get in a graded into the system.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
You could, you can be you can you can have
a guy.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
That has seen the game and cann't give him pointers,
but it's it wouldn't I don't think it'll help immensely.
I think a guy name out there I've heard and
I've seen I would kick the tires maybe on a Henny.
Henny came in in Kansas, you know, Kansas City when
Mahomes went down, and he knows Hackett system. I mean,
so all these things kind of play into the you know,
(19:25):
playing to the Jets favor if that's somebody they wanted
to check out, and look.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
At any of the other names.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Matt Ryan, I wouldn't really trust him in that system.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
He can't move. He can't move, and so it wouldn't be.
Speaker 4 (19:36):
It wouldn't be. It wouldn't be a fun option. It's
a name, you know, and it would be some interest there,
I'm sure. But yeah, I think a guy, my perfect
guy to come in and back him up a little
bit and actually knows the offense would be like.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
A Chad Henne Tony from Hackett system. Let me quickly
go macro in the league. So the Bengals lose, they
look terrible. The Chiefs lose, but they didn't have Kelsey
and Jones. It looks like both of them are back.
Who there was another team, Well, the Eagles kind of
scuffled a little bit there against the Patriots offensively at least,
but some of the better teams chargers. So people like
(20:11):
a lot defense just got shredded. I don't know any
major surprises week one or you just like, hey, it
is a seventeen game season.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Let's take our time.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Week one doesn't mean Jack squat which side of the
fence do you want?
Speaker 4 (20:22):
Well, the one thing that stuck out to me, but
I'd already called their demise anyway, was was the Bills.
Huh Yeah, I don't really I'm not high on the Bills.
I think I mean, I think they can make the playoffs,
and that's you know, that's a possibility, but I don't
I think they take a step back and with you know,
come into the season with the healthy Aaron Rodgers. I
had them third in the division, and so I mean
(20:45):
to kind of acknowledge it and see it or see
the product on the field. After the offseason it kind
of my speculation felt correct.
Speaker 1 (20:54):
There's something awful with them.
Speaker 4 (20:55):
And it's also once you get to a point of
contending for a long time and you don't like get
over that hump. There are egos that come into play, right,
and so you know, people want to get paid, people
think they deserve more times, people think they deserve the
ball more. All these things are are real problems that
arise when you start to win and you don't get
over that hump because you kind of went, you know,
(21:16):
you kind of roll that wave, and you know, some
things kind of go under the radar. You don't worry
about your money as much. You don't worry about certain
things when you're winning a lot of times.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
But when you know, when.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Things start to hit the fan a little bit there,
then it's like, all right, I gotta get in mind,
or I need to do something more to help, or
I need to do this. And you can see Josh
Allen yesterday right like trying to do way too much.
I mean, they were the better team at that point
when Aaron Rodgers was out right in theory, and then
you see him still pressing and do these things that
just doesn't that isn't really called for it, and so
(21:49):
it's it's I think they would be the one. But yeah,
it's only a week one. I mean, things are gonna
play itself out. But yeah, the Bills kind of fit
the bill, so to speak when I when I saw
them tether that.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Uh, I know it is just one week.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
But now we've got last season and then and then
the great performance against Buffalo. I think they've sacked Josh
Allen thirteen times in the three games. Which defense you got,
the one you were on with Reeves and Rex Ryan
running the show or the current one with Sauce Gardner, who,
by the way, did not have a great opening night.
Dix beat him I think three or four times. No
massive plays, but you know, gave up some catches and
(22:24):
Quentin Williams and what appears to be a really nasty,
fast defense.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
That's a great question. I'm gonna take mine right just
right now, right now, right now. I've seen these the
deaths gonna they're gonna have to be the Monsters of
the Midway and all these all these things, and they
got the potential.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
I mean, Quentin Williams is a beast.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
He just disrupted so much yesterday and you know, they
got play makers on all levels. I mean to see Jordan,
you know Whitehead do what he did yesterday was impressive.
And you know they got players. Our team had more names,
so to speak. At the you know that had I
guess built up some acumen throughout their career on that
(23:07):
one instance of that of a team to have, you know, success,
and we knew we were and they do too. I
can tell that they're super confident. They believe in themselves,
but they got to prove it a little bit more
one more. If they do it again this year, then
I may pass the torch. But right now it's definitely
leaning with us.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
I'm trying to remember were you on the first year
with Sanchez or the second because the second season I'll
never forget the playoff wins back to back beating Peyton
and Brady. I think the year before you guys lost
to the Colts. Yes, it kind of got smashed in
the area. It was the AFC title game.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
Maybe yeah, yeah, yeah, we.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
That game we got smashed, but going into halftime we
were up three, So you think about it, it wasn't
It wasn't as bad as we think. It kind of
you know, snowball in the second half. Peyton was Peyton.
He played brilliant in the second half. But no, we
were up at the half, and we were really confident
about that, I mean about winning that game. They went
to the championship, and so I mean, I think that
(24:05):
year we beat Carson Palmer, we beat Philip Rivers, and
so we had we beat some pretty good quarterbacks as well,
and I mean we really thought that game was ours.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Hey wait, if memory serves, did you guys play the
Bengals in the final game of the season and then
right back again the next.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
Week we did. They couldn't beat us.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
They could have beat us in that game and we
wouldn't ben made the playoffs, and so they decided to
play their guys only a little bit, I think, maybe
up into halftime because they probably thought they wanted us
at that point, right, And so yeah, we beat them
pretty handily in that game and came back in the playoffs.
It was a pretty close game, but I mean, we
knew we'd beat them. They they weren't going to be
(24:45):
ready for that moment after the confidence they gave us.
So yeah, it was a little bit of they thought
they had us, but no, it wasn't.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
They wouldn't have.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Got us that game, and I think I'm not one
hundred percent sure. The Chargers game was the one where
Antonio Crowmarti was on the Chargers, and I don't know
if you remember, there was a couple of plays where
he just didn't want to make tackles. Do you do
you remember this? I remember, I've seen the highlights a
billion times.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
Yeah, I remember that. Yeah, I mean I wouldn't a
lot of people wouldn't have wanted to make that talk
on Sean Green and the whole and fast too, but
you know, like just powerful. But yeah, no, I remember
the game. Camartie was definitely not trying to stick his
head in and that was the one he broke, the
long one on Sean.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Yeah, but that was that was all game plan too.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
Yeah, go right at him. I mean he does.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
He's what they like to call a pile inspector to
show up at the very end and it's like, oh yeah, hey,
hey I'm here, I'm here, I made it when it's
I mean, I don't mean to come off the top
rope on crow Crow because I've sat on the set
with him. He's a nice guy. I just joke, all right, Carrie, Rhoades,
former NFL safety carry thanks a lot for taking the time.
(25:52):
And uh, you know, Jets, Cowboys, Jets, Patriots, Jets, Chiefs
like this this is a this is a gauntlet for
Zach Wilson, Like you're just throwing right in the mix.
I think if they can get to three and three,
I think they will make the playoffs. Now, I don't
know if they get to three and three. There's also
the Eagles in like Week six, and it's just a
tough schedule.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
Yeah, they got a chance. I mean, the Patriots is
gonna be tough. It's always it's always tough. Cowboys, I'm
not thinking. I'm not completely sold that they're going to
lose that game yet. And so, uh, I could say
them being three and three because I yeah, I think
that's fair, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're four
and two.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
But so watch watch out on that.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Wow, if they go four to that would be.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
All right.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
Kerry, thanks an no problem
Speaker 1 (26:34):
But I have a good one.
