Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up, straight Fire? I am It's me Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Street Fire for Monday, July twenty first big week in.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
The NFL, folks.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yes, a lot of teams will have all of that's
reporting this week to camp. Oh, it's getting close to
Fantasy football time. Oh, I cannot wait. We do have
an unfortunate NFL story. We'll get to in like ten minutes.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
It's crap.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
I don't want to talk about it, but that's you know,
that's what we do here. You know, we tackle tough subjects.
I'm gonna actually start with huge news, seismic news for
the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
No, just kidding. Marcus Smart to the.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Lakers on a two year, eleven million dollar deal. Basically,
the Lakers I had been begging them to get Bradley
Beal and instead of going offense, Luca put in a call,
put the full court press on Marcus Smart, and the
Lakers land him after.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
He was dumped by the Wizards. It's funny.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Marcus Smart has obviously a rich history of being an
elite defender. Lebron knows him well from those battles in
the Eastern Conference. Marcus Smart Defensive Player of the Year
in twenty twenty two, and he finished he was First
Team All Defense three times.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
In four years. He has had some injury history.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
The most games he's ever played was seventy one, and
that was the year he was the Defensive Player of
the Year. So, you know, the last two seasons, as
Rob g pointed out to me earlier, Marcus Smart played
twenty games, followed by oh, my gosh, thirty four games.
(01:52):
So yeah, he's played fifty four games total in the
last two seasons.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Now one could say, oh, he's getting long in the tooth.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
I mean, Marcus Smart's thirty one years old. Doesn't turn
thirty two till next mart so he's not old. Is
the body breaking down? That's entirely possible, But it's also possible.
He was on losing teams the last two years. Memphis
they stunk. I mean, they were passable, but they weren't good.
I mean, imagine going from Boston where you're contending for
like six or six or seven years straight, okay, and
(02:22):
then all of a sudden you're on Memphis and then
you're on Washington.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Washington one of the worst teams in the league last year.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
So they had no incentive to play a lot of
Marcus Smart. Let's shut him down, Let's let the young
guys play, let's lose games, let's try to get a
higher draft pick. So let's not judge Smart on the
last two years. If you want to say, hey, he's
had an injury history, I can rock with that.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
What does he bring to the Lakers?
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Well, I thought Beal would have brought offense and made
their offense unstoppable down the strikes with Luca spreading the
floor with Lebron and Reeves and Beale and Marcus Smart
is essentially not the polar opposite. But instead of getting
another offensive player, you get a lockdown defender. Now, again,
he's not the defender he was three years ago when
he was DPOY. But you're telling me late in games,
(03:07):
he's not gonna be guarding the best opposing offensive player, SGA,
Anthony Edwards, whoever you want. I'm not gonna say he's
gonna shut him down, but for sure that's his assignment.
Whereas instead of Anthony Edwards going at Austin Reeves every
second and then Austin Reeves magically losing his offensive touch.
Funny how that happens, they'll have Marcus Smart in that rule.
(03:28):
So my guess is starters whatever, I don't care, but
the closing lineup makes sense. Luca, Lebron, Reeves, Smart, Aiden,
Maybe you get Ruby in there right if somebody's having
an off game, or you go a small ball, no
need for Ayton. Ultimately, I think there's a good move.
And interestingly, these are the three moves the Lakers have made.
(03:51):
Jake Laavia was added. Now again Jovan Buja, who covers
the Lakers as close as anybody. He swears La Ravia
was a bit of us and there's major upside. Interestingly,
La Ravia and Austin Reeves are friends. They share an agent,
so Reeves is the one who put the full court
press on la Ravia. Then you had DeAndre Ayton, Luca
(04:12):
an eight and share an agent. Luca going to multiple reports,
called or texted eight and saying, hey, bro, yeah, excited,
let's make it happen. And then it came out that
Luca is making moves to ad Marcus Smart. Folks, I
don't want to say I'm disappointed in Lebron because you
guys don't have a Lebron guy.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
I'm a little disappointed in Lebron.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
Why is he I don't want to say he's throwing
in the towel, and I get that he's upset with
the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
He doesn't really want to help them in a way. Rob.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
The analogy is, Hey, you are in charge of this,
that and the other. Ritch your job, and then the
company hires another young guy who basically does the same
thing as you, and they tell you, Rob, hey, can
you show this young guy the ropes. We want to
teach him everything you do. And you can instantly see
the writing on the wall. Oh shit, they hired my replacement.
(05:06):
Now Lebron is built different. Not to knock Rob g
I don't know how he's built.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
But.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Lebron was second ball NBA. So it's not one of
these Hey man, there, Luca is my replacement.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
I mean he is. That's the reality.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
But you can still win together, right, And so that's
why a little disappointed. Lebron is kind of not thrown
in the towel, but he's kind of pouting and not apparently,
according to multiple warts here, he's not being involved in
the recruitment process.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
I don't love that.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Obviously, when the bullets start flying, come October November. I'm
certain Lebron is going to be locked in. I don't
see a scenario where he's forcing his way out of
the Lakers by the All Star I just I don't
see that happening.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Assuming everybody's healthy and the Lakers are doing good.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
If they're thirteenth of sixty sorry fifteen in the West,
and guys are hurt left and right, then yeah, I
can see on saying, hey, get me the hell out
of here, let me go to a contender to try
to winner a ring. That being said, Rob, I like
the Marcus Smart pickup. I still don't think they're in
the Clippers, Nuggets, Rockets category. I think they're in that
next batch of contenders. Obviously the Thunder in that top four.
(06:15):
They're in that next group. I don't Are they that
much better than the Spurs.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I don't know. Are they that much better than the
timber Wolves. Well, the Wolves just smoked them.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
I don't know, So I would say the Lakers are
in like that second tier of contenders in the West.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I like the Marcus Smart move.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
You know what's crazy about this whole thing is that
I believe the Lakers are actually better today than they
were when the season ended, Like you essentially replaced DFS
with the Ravia Smart and Aiden and you don't lose
any draft picking, Like it's just basically a straight trade.
So you add the depth you didn't have before. La
Ravia is a better shooter than the DFS. DFS is
a better defender, but now you have Marcus smartin place
(06:55):
who can be your point of attack defender. And Aiden
is just a massive upgrade even his worst attractable say
he's a massive book grad from Jackson Hayes. So it's
funny that the Lakers that were the third seed last year,
I believe have gotten better. And yet to your point,
I don't know if they're a top four team in
the West, because I believe that the Clippers got vastly improved.
(07:16):
I believe that Denver on paper the best team in
the league because now they have the depth they didn't
have before. And I expect Oklahoma City, even though the
young legs would give the regular season, I don't know
if they're we saw in the playoffs, like Yokis is
just a different animal for them, Like no matter how
good okayc is, Yokis is a problem. And then of
course the Kevin Durant thing in Houston, So we'll see
(07:36):
if they can crack that home court advantage. Top four
in the Western Conference, Marcus Smart. To your point, if
he's healthy, it's a home run, right because he gives
them something that they have dreadfully needed, you know, basically
for the last two seasons. And that is a guy
that you can say, hey, whoever we're playing tonight, you're
(07:57):
guarding him, whether it's SGA Anthony Edwards, whether it's uh
Jaylen BROWNSEAI Jalen Brown. You know, you might even put
him on Trey Young and certainty like, whoever the guy
is on the other team, you're our primary person. And
it's a guy who you know is going to accept
the role and not really complain about it because he
(08:18):
is a defensive player first and even to your point
that he's you know, people say he's long in the tooth.
He's kind of mis slipping a little bit if you
look at his defensive box plus minds. I know is
an unperfect stat but he has been a positive defender
his entire career, save for the whatever eighteen games he
played in Washington when they were trying to lose on
(08:39):
purpose and even Dabitsch if you'd ask him what you'
seer and he would say he wasn't really given his
best effort. So like that, that's a huge upgrade for
them to your Lebron James point. It's what makes this
so frustrating as a Laker fan, is the only thing
that we have heard come from Lebron or from Lebron's
(09:01):
campians because it goes Ridge Paul was that super vague,
passive aggressive. Hey, you know, we respect the relationship with Lakers,
but we're also worried about our own career and blah
blah blah blah. So we'll monitor the situation you move forward.
And it's since then we've had, depending on who you follow,
conflicting reports basically every two or three days. Most recently
(09:24):
we've had within the last week, one reporter saying it's
looking like Lebron wants to play two or three more years.
He wants to get to twenty five seasons. Another one
saying this all points to this being Lebron's retirement tour
in LA and he wants to stay in La to
do it because you know, the All Star Games in
La YadA, yah YadA, and because he's not saying anything,
(09:47):
or having Rich Paul say anything. It's allowing all of
this stuff to float under the ether.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
So then when David.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Manham asked him on the record you want to comment
on he says, I have nothing to talk about, and
he says, lets it fester. And that's one of the
reasons why, even as a Laker fan, going back to Cleveland,
going back to Miami and into Cleveland again, I've always
kind of pushed back a little bit on this idea
that Lebron's is a great leader because he does this everywhere.
(10:13):
You know, how can I feel confident in you as
the leader of the team when you are openly dangling
the rest of us in trade rumors throughout the season?
How can I feel confident confident you and leader of
the team when we don't even know if you're committed
to being here because you're taking one plus one deals.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
Year after year after year after year. How can I
feel confident in you and the leader of.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
The team if when the team sucks like the Lakers
did during the Westbrook era. There's low light videos on
you can look it up where Lebron throws the ball
off the back of the backboard, trying to inbound it
because he doesn't care. Lebron is watching the ball roll
in front of him past half court and it rolls
out of bounds because it doesn't care. It's like, that's
not what a great leader does. Now, when things are
(10:56):
going great and you need a galvanizing presence and you
want to get then he's phenomenal because he has that
kind of personality and people gravitate towards him. But there's
a lot more that goes into being a good leader
than just being there when things are good.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
Interest that's a little hot take for my liking. I
will say they had to not only move off Shake Milton,
but also Jordan Goodwin. And it's interesting because if you
don't follow the Lakers or go to their games or
watch them regularly, you don't even know who Jordan Goodwin is.
But Laker fans rob correct me if I'm wrong. They have
this affinity like he was the missing piece. Oh my gosh,
so pivotal guys. The Lakers must have seen enough from
(11:33):
Brownie and they like what we've got, Gabe Vincent, what
do we need Goodwin for? Marcus Smart can actually be
a top seven guy for us? I have no issue
with this, but Laker fans are freaking crazy people.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
You know this. I'm sure, yes, And again I like Jordan.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
Goodwing's fine, but I'm not like, hey, we got to
keep him because we can't afford Marcus Smart like that,
that's a no brainer.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
It's interesting that Rob brought up this defender thing. So
in the Mecca League we played over the weekend, we
played this team Rob. I'm sure you've seen his highlights
on Instagram. This guy called Hezy God.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
Yes, I know, the Hezy God.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Okay, so we had to play them, and I was like, geez,
we're gonna get cooked.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
This guy's a legend.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
And then he shows up like right before the game,
doesn't get the warm up or anything. They don't even started,
and he doesn't play a lot. But we had our strategy.
We got two guys, They're just gonna just go all
over Hesy God. And one of them, I mean, this
guy's I don't know who he is, but he's just
a dog and he's just guarding him ninety four feet,
just like the NBA playoffs, and Hesey God did nothing
in the second app like he was getting frustrated and
(12:51):
who cares.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
We led by four with fifty seconds left and blew
it and lost. But that doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
But bottom line is work as smart, Like, hey, if
you were on our team, you would have been like, hey,
you got that heazy. I mean, that's a pretty baller nickname,
Hesy God. You know, meanwhy only plays on social media?
By though, yes, And by the way, it's he's comical
to watch because he's working the refs the entire time.
At halftime, everybody's on their bench, He's over there talking
to the refs and I'm like, this guy. So then
during the game they're like, he says to the refs, Oh,
(13:17):
these guys are complaining about everything. I'm like, and I
wanted to jump in and say something, but I don't
really know hes he God. And some of these guys
are a little different, rob if you know what I mean.
This one guy who got a tech on their team.
He sounds crazy. He's like six' eight huge and looks
at our. Bench and a guy we, know one of
My buddies, says you goofy to the, guy AND i was, like.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Whoa in my, Head i'm, like what are you? Doing
call it you don't even know? Him and he just
starts chirping and, Saying i'm you don't know how you
don't know me and just starts saying all this.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Stuff and, Again, rob these are like dicey moments for your, Boy, like,
YEAH i.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
GOT i got to go to dinner anybody right?
Speaker 3 (13:55):
NOW i gotta pick up some salads and sweet CREAM
i don't need to get but, anyways that league is so.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
Fun.
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Man, anyways by the, WAY i bet you if we
tried her, head you gotta come on the. POD i
bet you he. Would it'd be good for his.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Brad he's a really good trash Talking you're, right, yeah
get get in with the young podcast. Audience, hey before
we get to The Caitlin Clark All star weekend and
this dumb idea with THE t, Shirts i'm contractually obligated
to stick to sports on the. Podcast you guys know, that,
Right we were told for the longest. Time, hey sports,
guys you gotta stick to. Sports, well what happens when
(14:28):
the politicians.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Start talking about? Sports do we have then have the green?
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Light because last week a certain guy brought, Up, oh
we're gonna do stuf.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
About this nil money players making way too much? Money, like,
bro we're in a war With, iran what's going on
With ukraine And? Russia the? Economy? All can you not
care about nil money in college?
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Football, but in an effort to further distance himself from
The epstein, files which still have not been, released all
of a sudden On, Sunday Adam schefter is, reporting well
he's technically not, reporting But Adam schefter is putting out
tweets about How Donald.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Trump is going to threaten to block.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
The New Washington Commander stadium if they don't Change, yes
this is, right if they don't change the name back
to The Washington. Redskins this is like a real thing
that actually. SAID i, MEAN i have to read it
three or four times just to make. Sure and, AGAIN
i know we got to stick to. Politics but my
(15:38):
first thought was he can how can he hold up a?
Stadium and deep into the story you start reading. That of,
Course Joe biden signed a bill In january the transferred
land from the government to TO dc AND dc overwhelming
he voted for, it blah blah. Blah but Technically congress
remains in control of the city's, budget and so maybe
(16:01):
there's a way that the president would block a stadium
over a name. Change and this is, again this is
one of these things that pisses me off because, again
there are so many real world issues at play that,
matter and yet we're talking about gender bathrooms and boys
playing girls. Volleyball obviously that shouldn't, happen but it's such
(16:24):
a small. Thing Like i've got a lot of friends
who are IN, DC i grew up in the area
who Are Washington commanders. Fans since they went To commanders
a couple of years, AGO i haven't heard of clamoring
to go back To Washington.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
REDSKINS i don't see that.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Anywhere but what we're gonna get now is the extremists
who don't give a shit about football coming, out, so,
oh we got to go back To Washington. Redskins, hey,
Hey joe over, there can you name four players on The. Commanders,
yeah to tell me anything anything about the defense or special,
teams how they did in the playoff last year without,
googling just to, me and they don't know Any they don't.
(16:59):
Care they're just here for the controversy and the engagement
farming and the. Divisiveness that's all these people. Want they
don't and that's why this pisces me. Off Is you've
got the, exhibits and it's not just the radical, right
it's the extreme left who don't give two craps about,
football but all of a, sudden they're now going to jump.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
In and that's where this is just getting so. Stupid
And i'm so.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Annoyed none of this nonsense should. Happen And, ROBI i
probably should let you take it away here BEFORE i
get too worked.
Speaker 4 (17:28):
Up oh, yeah let me be the one to come
in on this on the freaking grenade. Exactly. Yeah it's
just disappointing BECAUSE i was producing national, radio like The Morning,
show so the big deals That Fox Sports radio at
the height of The Colin kaepernick, situation right when you,
know that was the talking point for every, channel every
station all across the. Country AND i remember a very
(17:52):
vocal group of, people not my, minority a vocal, majority
because it was it was almost on all. Sides people were, saying,
Hey Colin kaepernick is. Dumb what he's saying is stupid
stick to, sports or it Was Colin kaepernick is. Right
everything he's saying is.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
TRUE i don't care what the numbers.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Say, however WHEN i turn ON, ESPN i just want
to See Sports. CENTER i don't need to have a
conversation about social political, issues and like that's. Fine SO
i understand people who want to have the situation where
politics and social activism kind of intertining with sports because
it has historically going back to you, Know Jim brown
(18:33):
And Bill russell And kareem and so, on like it
happens all the. Time but at the same, time if
you're gonna have the mantra of stick to, sports how
are we supposed to stick to sports when the most
powerful person in the, country maybe most pout person in the,
world continues to insert himself into these, conversations whether It's
(18:53):
Steph curry And lebron and then my going to The White,
house whether it's in this, case you, know whether it's the,
situation you, know you can.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Go down the.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
List President trump has been one of the people who
has made it abundantly clear that he will not quote
unquote stick to. Sports he wants to have A ufc
event on The White house. Lawn what aren't that was a,
Joke BUT i, guess, like what on earth does.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
That have to do with.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Anything it's just another one of these situations where you're
trying to distract people from the real issues because there
is a segment of his, following and this goes for both.
Sides it just so happens That trump and the right
is more is in charge at the. Moment no matter
what he does or, says they're gonna lap it. Up
doesn't matter because you again flash forward eight ten years,
(19:43):
ago they didn't want to have any conversations that were
social political in. Sports now That trump's doing, it, well
of course we got to have. It in, FACT i
put up a poll on my Own twitter account should
we go back to The redskins? Name and all of
my followers said, Yes so he must be. Right and it's,
like come, on, bro, like what are we?
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Doing, no it's not. GOOD i don't.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
KNOW i, Again i'm not sitting out here Like i'm
some kind of very against The Republican, party which seems
to be. Dead but, Listen i'm thrilled right now that
the economies.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Pop i'm.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
THRILLED i look at my four zero and k it's doing,
amazing and then you start to, read oh, why oh,
well because the tariff's never actually.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Happened there aren't really any tariffs really in.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Play it's just all, threats and so the market is,
saying this guy's just all. TALK i wonder if the
market is gonna say this guy's all talk with This Washington,
redskins it's gonna be, Interesting like can you imagine if
you bought the Team joshua whi's his?
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Face hold On.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Harris josh, Harrifs, yeah they bought the team and said
in twenty twenty, three and said earlier this, year the
name is the. State we're Going washington. Commanders it's, fine
people like. It this is a non. Story for him
to bring this up is creating controversy where there. Isn't
AND i think he likes. THIS i think the president
love to see his name in the. Headlines similar To Jerry.
(21:02):
Jones Jerry jones still has his Sign Michael. Parsons why
because The cowboys are gonna the media is gonna talk
about The cowboys And Michael parsons even though it's bad
business and. Dumb Jerry jones, says, oh we just need
to stay in the. Headline we just need to Stay
that seems to be what he. Wants and the other,
guy we know he wants to be in the. Headlines
and it's just. Dumb like, again did it was IT
pc five years ago or whatever when they changed the? Name,
(21:25):
Yeah Washington Football club was, stupid that's. Obvious they Found Washington.
Commanders that's. Fine, now the other part of this is
That Cleveland indians became The Cleveland. Guardians, NOW i don't
follow baseball nearly as. CLOSELY i don't even know if
The guardians are like a good team in the playoff,
mix but they don't really get talked, about so this wouldn't.
(21:45):
Matter but For washington, FANS i mean, again and, media
there's like a lot involved to you gotta change, merchandise naming, rights,
website social. Media there's just a ton of things. Involved
it's just, like, no it's easier not. To And i'm
wondering because we're seeing this with higher. Education harvard is
having a standoff obviously With trump and other people are.
(22:06):
Capitulating be, like we don't need these freaking. Headaches we're
seeing the media capitulate and do these. Deals colbert lost his,
Show so people think that's, Connected like it's getting ugly
when we just have one guy trying to throw his weight,
Around like why why meddle in all these?
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Things what's the Point because.
Speaker 4 (22:23):
That's easier to do than to actually solve real, Problems
like it basically what it boils down, to you, know
like we haven't Really there are comedian Podcasters solf come
out there and gone on record who were very publicly
supporting On President trump before he got, elected and they're
like everything that he said he was going to do
(22:44):
has been the. Opposite it's, like well that's kind of
been his mom forever.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Attention, yeah, right and so.
Speaker 4 (22:51):
It's like what do you, Expect like if he's not
getting the things done that you voted him for and
that you were, endorsing it's, like, well how else CAN
i do something that's going to either distract from that
or is gonna get my base rowling around me? Again,
yeah and for whatever, reason to Make indians great, again
(23:12):
which is a real tweet From Resident trump like if
if that's what it's going to take to get people
back on his, side then he's going to do. It
and he's shown me'll do that over and over and over.
Speaker 1 (23:21):

Because i'm sure you guys saw The All Star games
this weekend and the players IN i don't know who
came up with this. Idea they came out WEARING t
shirts in warm ups that said pay us what you owe,
Us and obviously this was the biggest talking point of the,
game bigger Than Skyler diggins who got a triple. Double
(23:58):
Caitlin clark didn't. PLAY i didn't watch. It i'm not
gonna Lie. Rob WHEN i saw THE t, SHIRT i
was just, like what are we? Doing what does that even?
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Mean what you owe?
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Us?
Speaker 2 (24:11):
Oh what do they?
Speaker 3 (24:15):
Owe for like twenty, years this league was a money.
Loser we know, that that's. Documented you don't need to
look at THE p AND. L the league has been
a money loser forever and only now it's starting to come.
Out so what all of a, sudden instantly after twenty
years of, losses now you got to pay the players.
MORE i DON'T i, MEAN i could say a lot of,
(24:38):
STUFF i probably get myself in some, trouble BUT i
don't get this at.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
All And i'm pro. Wnba we're gonna.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Be trying to go to a game here next, month,
Obviously Caitlin clark Versus.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Sparks i'm into. It my family likes. It i'm rooting For.
Clark we trust, Me.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Guys when we Put Caitlin clark in the podcast, title
more people click that it's just.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Happening it's a.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
THING i don't know, why but a lot of people
must be searching For Kitlin clark content all the, time and,
listen this one isn't gonna look great for.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
HER i don't think she's the ring leader behind.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
This and Then Kelsey plumb came out and, Said, hey
just for the, record you, Know Team clark wasn't at
the morning meeting when we decided, this SO i guess. They,
BASICALLY i don't know if she was joking or, Not
ROB i couldn't. Tell it felt like she was. Sarcastic
it was, strange Like Kelsey plumb, LIKE i don't know
why she injected. THAT i guess we'll never. Know but
(25:33):
it's not Like Katelin clark was the ringleader behind. THIS
i think first and foremost she's a basketball. PLAYER i
definitely think there are other pretty popular women who have
been vocal about contracts That i'm sure we're spearheading this.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
EFFORT i just didn't like the. Verbiage but you.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Know when you make people uncomfortable with pay us what
you owe, us that gets pick up And i'm sure
this is gonna be the talking point Here monday on
plenty of RADIO tv.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
Shows.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Yeah first, off, yes the phrasing was terrible because what
you owe us implies like we're due back pay and
the league has not made money since, conception yet we're
withholding money from, me, right so you, know pay us
what we deserve might have been a better, phrase but
maybe it doesn't look good on a shirt or look
as Good BEFORE i get into THE, wab let's just
say whatever you feel about THE, Wnba i'll give them
(26:25):
one thousand percent credit in. This they may have the
most unified union in other than baseball In american pro.
Speaker 2 (26:33):
Sports like if THE.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Nfl had this kind of unity in THEIR, pa we
wouldn't have situations where the guy is blowing through expense
reports at strip clubs And limo.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Rids right by the, WAY i haven't paid attention to that.
Story it feels like very in the, weeds but it
does seem. Juicy WHEN i saw strip, CLUBS i was, Like,
okay DO i need to pay attention to? This?
Speaker 4 (26:53):
YEAH i mean like it led to the representative being
fired and then the player, representative you, know resigning from his.
Role like it's been a real. Scandal and that's part
of the reason why THE nflpa keeps getting hosed in
their deals because they are not a well oiled. Machine
they're not united on. Anything they'll they'll concede on the
dumbest things, Like, hey we want to be able to
smoke more weed at certain times of the. Year, yeah go,
(27:14):
ahead and we'll play an eight to seventeenth game what.
Like it doesn't work like. That THE wnba do is
a much better job with their union because they do
operate for the most part as a single. Organism but
as far as this, situation, again the verbiage was, Terrible
but if you're looking for any kind of justification for their,
requests it's not hard to. Find. Right, yes they've lost
(27:35):
money since the. Inception you know who else lost money
basically every year since inception up until this, Year, Spotify
uber and people were still contributing and investing handover fist
because they saw. Potential, Right and if you look at THE,
wnba they just added two new teams two hundred and
fifty million dollars buy. In they try to pay it
(27:57):
to get, it so that's five hundred million. Dollars the
new team is going to kick in starting next. Season
that means THEIR tv revenue is going to go up
one hundred and fifty million dollars a. Season, Right attendance is,
hyatts it's been in, decades up twenty six, percent merchandise
sales up forty. Percent national. Viewership we just go back
to last, Season Caitlin clark broke the viewership record on
(28:20):
every network that THE wnba plays. On, RIGHT i ON, TV,
NBA TV, ABC, ESPN espn, two whatever game network has
shown A wnba, game they have a new high because
Of Kitlin. Clark so it would make sense why they're
unhappy with their current deal where they only get nine
percent of revenue as opposed to fifty percent which most
(28:40):
other massive leagues. Get SO i could understand why they
are upset and they feel, like, hey whatever happened fifteen
twenty twenty five years ago has nothing to do with, us,
nothing nothing like what we're doing right now is on
a trajectory and it's skyrocketing. Now, again we were losing money,
(29:00):
before so pay us what you. Owe this is not
exactly WHAT i would use to describe, it but we
deserve a bigger share of the. Pie AND i understand
why you would say. THAT i do think, though it's
gonna get real, ugly real. Quick AND i would not
be surprised if they have some kind of lockout next.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Season oh, wow that would because it's such a it's
such a hard balancing act because to your, like to
any detractable, point they've been losing money, Forever so why
WOULD i concede like? That and so and, again it's
gonna get. Ugly we're not haters of THE. Wnba, however
the numbers don't. Lie SO i just did a search
chat gpt Rub has THE wnba ever been?
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Profitable basic?
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Question Now i'll only CHAT gbt four to, zero not
not the three which does deeper dives and takes a little.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Longer, no THE.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Wnba has never as a whole has never turned a
profit in thirty. Years, however individual teams have turned a
profit at various. Times Adam silver said in twenty, eighteen
this was seven years. Ago the league was losing ten
million dollars a year ten.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
So like.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Last, year last year was forty because the charged the.
Fights they was forty million dollars last.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Year and despite a HUGE tv deal that they, got
they are expected to continue to suffer, losses like you,
said for several. Years by twenty, eleven, though three teams were,
profitable and by twenty, thirteen six of the twelve were.
Profitable so, listen you're gonna. SEE i guarantee you The
(30:30):
Indiana fever are profitable this. YEAR i would almost certainly
guarantee that because, Well clark's springing with the game day
merge and.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
Ticket prices and all that fun.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Stuff BUT i, AGAIN i don't know that like The
Connecticut sun and all these teams that are like, crap
like The atlanta. Team THEIR nba team barely sells out the.
Arena how's THE wnba team going to do?
Speaker 4 (30:50):
Anything you?
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Know so this what you owe?
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Us it JUST i don't. Know it did not come
off great to, Me but, yeah we will. See by the,
Way rob super. Random over the, WEEKEND i had some
time AND, i for whatever, REASON i haven't seen the
Movie The matrix in a.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
While have you seen it in a? While not in?
Years BUT i have seen, It So.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
I'm watching it expecting, greatness, RIGHT i, Remember, Oh, matrix
that was? Good you, Know matrix is like extremely MID
i just found it not as awesome AS i. THOUGHT
a couple scenes were, incredible the opening's, phenomenal but, OVERALL
i was, like this movie's not that.

GREAT i, know how is? This check Out the.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
MATRIXES i know you remember it as, awesome but, like

rewind a little, bit like it just it wasn't. Incredible i'm, sorry,
listen it does not hold. Up you, Know i'm not
saying it doesn't hold up the Way friends. Doesn't by the,
way have you tried to Watch friends with like a laugh?
Speaker 2 (31:55):

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Unwatchable friends is total. Crap by the, WAY i was
