Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
What is up straight Fire? I Am it'smity Jason McIntyre
Straight Fire for Monday, January twenty seventh. This is a
highly anticipated podcast based on texts I got DMS tweets.
You guys are thirsty for this one. I guess there's
a lot of Chiefs fans tuning into this, probably some
(00:33):
Eagles fans. I do have some quasi big news. I
watched the movie Wicked with my family over the weekend.
I fell asleep twice. You know, I'm not a big
musicals guy, and overall.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
It was a good movie.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
I recommend it, and you'll like this, but just before
you get to NFL rob you'll like this. So my
daughter had a volleyball tournament Sunday and people were like,
are you gonna go to the tournament. I'm like, yeah,
my phone can stream the game. Bro, it's not a
big deal. And I forgot my son at a basketball game,
so it's like, oh, okay, I'll have the assistant coach
and one of my buddies' sons on the team can
help out, and they my wife starts texting me from
(01:09):
the game, Oh man, we're down bad. I was like,
what what, We're undefeated, how are we losing? I'm not there.
And then my wife's like, yeah, they only have five players.
It's weird. I was like, are we full court pressing?
My wife's like, what's that? I was like, you want
full corps guarding them? So she I said, convey to
the coaches to full court press, and so they full
core press. They get right back in the game. And
(01:30):
then I don't know what happened in the fourth quarter
and the other team pulled away and we took an
l And that's coming in as the Chiefs Bills games
kicking off, and I'm like, guys, I don't want to
hear about it. We'll talk about it during the week.
I got to lock in, and then Chiefs Bills Part
I don't know what, Part nine, Part fifteen, I don't.
I'm at a loss for how many games this is.
(01:50):
But it's an easy way to sum it up. The
Buffalo Bills win the regular season meetings, and the Chiefs
win the ones in the playoffs that matter. Mars because
Kansas City very clearly he treats the regular season like
NBA teams do. Hey, this is a melting pot. We're
mixing and matching, we're trying new stuff, we're tinkering. Remember
how Belichick early in the season, he's like, September, we're
(02:12):
just screwing around. We're just getting our feet wet. You know,
whatever happens, who cares. It's all about the playoffs anyway.
And I'm of the belief that this is what the
Kansas City Chiefs are doing. I mean, it's pretty clear
at this point. You win all these Super Bowls, it's
tough to get up for September games against the New
Orleans Saints. That's just the way it is. And this
looked like a totally different team. Chiefs get the ball
and they're basically unstoppable in this game. You know, they
(02:33):
go touchdown, nine plays ninety yards. They look like they're
about to go fourteen to three, and then Mahomes has
a fumble. No big deal. They get the ball back, touchdown,
get the ball again, touchdown. I mean four drives in
the first half and they all mowed right down the field.
This is not the same team we watched for eighteen weeks.
It's just not. And in the second half, you know,
Josh Allen put on the superman Kate put his team
(02:54):
on the back. They had an amazing comeback. James Cook
had a spectacular touchdown run on fourth down, and you
know Buffalo was right there. Yes, I will address that
play shortly, but there was thirteen minutes left when the
refs handed Kansas City the ball there, so obviously a
lot happened after that. But I just need to play
it out. A couple of things I keep hearing, Oh uh,
(03:16):
Buffalo is so conservative. It's just it was such a weak,
soft game plan for McDermott. Guys. Buffalo was four for
five on fourth down. Okay, four for five on fourth
down before the final play where Josh Allen under durest
from a spectacular Spagnolo blitz. I mean, it was just
awesome stuff and Dalton kid Kaid should have caught it.
(03:38):
I was unaware of how bad the drop was. I'm
not gonna lie to you, guys. I CBS I thought
kind of dropped the ball a little bit in this
game out. I'm not like criticized the media guy, but
they didn't show the replay of the Kincaid drop until
a little while later. And at that point, you know
you're fielding text, you're talking to your family like screw
this things, bubble whatever. So I didn't see it. And
then Rob's like, yeah, Dalton Kinka, Mark Andrews are boys.
(04:01):
I was like, oh, let me go look. Oh my gosh.
I mean when you now listen, this was slowed down
and Dalton kid Kate kind of had to come back
for the ball. But I mean, dude, Dalton Ki Kate
off his forearms. That's a terrible, terrible drop. But nevertheless, listen,
Kansas City comes out on top. It was I thought
a largely even game. Casey had a few more first downs.
(04:24):
Yards are about the same. Yards for play were about
the same. What's interesting is this was the first playoff
game where a team lost the turnover battle and won
the game. The Chiefs had the fumble by Mahomes right
around the red zone. Buffalo Buffalo fumble four times, magically
recovered all of them. I another knock on CBS. I
(04:45):
didn't see a replay of the Ray Davis fumble, but
they got it back. You know, Allen had the fumble
going over the top that was recovered. It was a
wacky game. Things lined up for Buffalo and ultimately they
couldn't pull it off. I will very briefly, because I
don't want to be that guy. I've got to bring
it up. I've got to bring up the fourth down
(05:07):
tush push by Josh Allen. Now, I will go on record.
I thought the tush push was a failure for the
Bills all game long. I didn't love the call. Nevertheless,
when you can get six five two forty sneaking for
the first down, it's not the worst play in the world.
They didn't need much. From my vantage point, Alan clearly
got to the line before he was tackled. H Warren
(05:29):
Sharp among others, have have slowed down the CBS, videocbs
circled the referees, and this is again, this is what
really sucks about the NFL forty million people watching fourth
quarter super close game. I think it was a tie game. Yeah,
it was a tie game of the Oh no, I'm sorry.
The Bills are up twenty two to twenty one at
the time. Okay, one referee comes down to spot it
(05:53):
right down the line where they had to get to
the forty, So that would have meant a first down,
right the other refereces No, oh no, no, it's a little
further back. Why did one referee overrule the other. We
never got clarity. The Tony Romo and Jim Nantz both
thought that it was a first down by Josh Allen,
the CBS rules analyst, whoever that guy is, He said,
I thought it was.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
A first down.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
And yet we get no explanation as to why one
ref would overrule the other when they were both coming
from opposite sidelines, Like did one have a better vantage
point than the other? I don't know, And obviously yes,
we need a chip in the football, but I just
thought that, you know, again, it's this is, you know,
one of the great games of the season. I don't
know if it was the game of the season, but
(06:37):
it was a great game and you've got this crap
looming over it. And this is where the casuals are
chiming in. Guys who cover. Everybody's watching this game, and
everybody knows that the Chiefs win every game and they
get the calls, and for them to not give Alan
the first down. We don't really get an explanation as
(06:57):
to why one ref was overruled. It's just it's frustrating
and annoying. Chiefs come down and score. Now, Josh Allen
was able to come right back down, fourth down, tie
it up, twenty nine all, and then Mahomes comes down,
held to a field goal and then enter the Dalton
Kin and caave drop. But once it overall, it was
a very profitable gambling weekend. The overhit in Buffalo, Kansas
(07:18):
City teasers hit. If you tease the Chiefs and the
Bills in multiple teasers, Eagles cover. We'll get to that
game shortly. It was good. I mean Kincaid props didn't hit.
They probably would have on that one. A lot of
the Eagles props I posted on ig they hit. It was.
It was a great Sunday. I just wish the Buffalo
Bills were here and now we get a Chief's Eagles
rematch before we get to Eagles. Rob g I don't
(07:41):
want you to come out here and kill Dalton Kincaid.
If you want to crush the refs, go right ahead.
But I'm just curious your quick thoughts on Chiefs thirty
two Bills twenty nine.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Well, I'm not going to crush Dalton Kincaid, even though
that was an absolutely brutal drop, because for the same
reason as Mark Andrews last week, I'm sure sure nobody
feels worse today than he does, because I mean once
we saw the replay, because they didn't show the the
replay immediately because there was confusion about the flag. So
it wasn't until the Chiefs already had the ball that
you see like, oh shit, I hit him right in
(08:12):
the hands. Josh Allen Yolo had balled it with three
guys falling on top of him into a blind spot
and it hit him in the hands and he dropped it.
So if you know, dalty kin Kate sent him a text,
send him a call, make sure he's all right, because again,
this is he's having a rough one today, this game
and this season and these last few years as much
(08:33):
as it's about the Chiefs dynasty. And we'll have plenty
of time to get into that over the next couple
of weeks, because that's basically the only talking point leading
into you know, the next the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes,
in just seven seasons as a starter, has been in
the Super Bowl five times, has seventeen playoff wins, has
fifty offensive touchdowns, has won nine straight playoff games, and
(08:56):
has engineered eight game winning drives. Each of is tied
for second in NFL history, behind only Tom Brady lest
we forget, Tom Brady played for forty seven years and
Patrick Mahomes is barely number seven, so we can safely assume, conservatively,
barring injury, Patrick Mahomes is gonna go down as the
(09:16):
greatest quarterback who ever lived, because he's gonna have all
the numbers that Brady never got, and he's gonna have
all the winning that Brady did get. But this brings
me to Josh.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Allen, because don't kill Josh Allen.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
No, I'm not killing Josh Allen at all. Patrick Mahomes
again is gonna go down as the greatest quarterback who
ever lived. In their head to head playoff matchups. I
don't know if you saw this stat CBS putting it
out there. Josh Allen has seven more total yards, one
less total touchdown, the same number of turnovers, and his
(09:52):
team is zero to four coming into this game. Josh
Allen in his career playoff touchdowns against six turnovers. Okay,
Patrick Mahomes coming into this game forty seven touchdowns against
nine turnovers. Patrick Mahomes passer rating one oh five point six.
(10:14):
Josh Allen's passer rating is one on one point five.
Were it not that he lived in the era of
the greatest to ever do it, Josh Allen would be
talked him out amongst some of the all time greats.
He would be talked about in that Troy Aikman, John Alway,
you know, not quite maybe Aaron Rodgers type thing. Because
what he does in the postseason, year in and year out,
(10:39):
is on par with anybody in NFL history except Patrick Mahomes.
Even last night. In that game, Patrick Mahomes goes for
like two hundred and eighty eight total yards, three touchdowns,
one turnover. Josh Allen goes for two seventy six and
two touchdowns, no turnovers. Like he is matching blow for
(11:01):
blow damn near every time he faces him. But the
difference is is at the head coaching position and the
play calling, both offensively and defensively. The Chiefs are just
a little bit better, a little bit sharper. They don't
make the same mistakes that Buffalo seems to make year
in and year out. Case in point hates to bring
(11:22):
it back to Dalton Kinkaid. Early in the first quarter,
Patrick Maholmes, the yolo ball looks like it's intercepted. Oh gosh,
Worthy jumps up, snatches it they both come down with it.
Ty gos to the receiver, huge gain for Kansas City's
Quarteschi and a few plays later daltin Kay. The end
of the game, Josh Allen makes an incredible throw with
everybody bearing down on him, hits him in the hands.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
And he drops it.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
That's the difference between the all time great and the
guy who's like, oh, he's just never gonna get thereusy,
He's just another you know, Jim.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Kelly game of inches, Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
And it's just it's unfortunate because I think Josh Allen,
his narrative is always gonna be that he's the guy
who couldn't get it done, and it's through no fault
of his I know this is short menu wins and losses,
but at some point you have to just tip your
cap and say, look, man, like, it's not your fault.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
You're playing well enough to win. He just run into
the juggernaut.
Speaker 1 (12:17):

the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports Radio

Speaker 2 (12:28):
It's funny you mentioned John Elway. I just looked up
his stats so for thirteen years, John Elway was one
of the great quarterbacks in the league, and his playoff
record was seven and seven. Okay, he was thirty seven
years old. He was gonna go down as like an
all time greg who could never win the big game.
And then boom at thirty seven and thirty eight years old,
(12:49):
he goes four to zero in the playoffs, three to
oh in the playoffs. You know, Terrell Davis shows up
and all of a sudden, Denver wins two trophies at
John Elway, you know, is now he's a champion. But
before those two he was gonna be relegated to like
Dan Marino territory. He couldn't get he couldn't win the
big game, which I think we've advanced, right, Rob passed
that narrative like that that was like a sports talk
(13:10):
radio thing in like two thousand and I don't know ten,
and social media has come along, and I think one
of the benefits is we're all smarter. There's just way
more information, Like there's next gen stats, you know, like
we got way more info than we used to have.
And it's very clear Josh Allen is right there on
part with Patrick Mahomes like you said, they're going to
blow for blow. You just measure their stats, strip away
(13:32):
the wins and losses, which is not always on the quarterback.
Like you said, Kincaid with the drop, the defense couldn't
get a stop. Nice spectacular performance from Allen. Just disappointing
that they came up on the losing end once again.
And now we get, you know, two weeks of hype
for Patrick Mahomes, Kareem Hunt, ju Ju Smith, Schuster. I mean,
as soon as I lost Benford, the cornerback with who
(13:54):
I feel terrible for the kid. So he was in
concussion protocol. Usually during the season you were able to
come out of concussion protocol after missing a game. Wow,
this championship game, Ben for plays. I think it was
a second series. He he had an awesome breakup on
the first. Oh no, wait, this might have been the
first series. He had an awesome breakup and then he
goes to make a tackle and it's a friendly fire
(14:16):
from DeMar Hamlin and he's concussed and they ruled him
out within like two minutes. It's just unlucky, and they
picked on Elam most of the rest of the game.
Elam will former first round pick out of Florida. He
wasn't good enough. The Chiefs are close. It's disappointing. Now,
Eagles fifty five, Commander's twenty three.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Just to hear fifty five points in an NFC championship
game is sounds ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
We knew the Washington defense wasn't that good. I didn't
know they were. You know, let's give up two hundred
and twenty nine rushing yards and wait for it, seven
rushing touchdowns. You know, this had the feel of Notre
Dame against Ohio State. You remember that Notre Dame drive.
Everybody to open the game. It was Riley Leonard and
a cloud or dust and they went down the field.
They scored Notre Dames all pump in their chest and
(15:03):
Riley Leonard was a gassed and vomited and next thing
you know, it was thirty one to seven. Well, that
first drive by Washington, they kept converting third downs, fourth downs.
Jaydon Daniels with money, but they settled for three. Eagles
get the ball first play from scrimmage, Saquon with a
sixty yard house call, and at that point it felt
like a rap. Now, obviously, Daniels fought back capably, but again,
(15:28):
it comes down to the turnover battle, and Washington had
four of those, including a fumble. Zach Bond pounced on.
You had the a fumble and the kickoff. It was
just a comedy of errors and washingtondn't listen. They had
an amazing season. This is a tough pill to swallow
to wrap it up this way and lose by thirty two.
But I don't know, not not really much to say here.
(15:50):
I will I will point out now again it's the
Washington defense. But Jalen Hurts looked pretty damn good twenty
twenty eight, two forty six, easily his best Postseas performance.
AJ Brown got his touchdown all the Dallas Goddard props hit,
which was nice. Saquon went off, Will Shipley came in
about the only negative is Kenneth Gainwell got concussed, but
(16:10):
hopefully he's back for the Super Bowl. Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter,
this is a great defensive front and it's early. Rob,
it's early, But are you ready to go out on
a limb and pick the underdog Philadelphia Eagles in the
Super Bowl?
Speaker 4 (16:27):
I am not, darn it. And here's the reason why.
Coming into the NFC Championship Game. Both Philly and Washington
were plus six in the turnover battle through two games.
Then obviously they have the the bacle that is the
NSC Championship Game. But to put into context how ridiculous
this matchup between the two teams. Washington as a team
(16:52):
had twenty turnovers in the regular season the postseason combined.
Ten of them came in three games against Philadelphia. There
is something about this defense to match up with that
offense that just gives them trouble. And shout out to
those two corners, the rookies Quinny and Mitchell and Cooper
dejen combined one pick and three forced incompletions, so those
(17:15):
two guys have kind of hold up pretty well. But
I come back to this, You are not gonna get
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid to have three turnovers in
the game. You are not gonna enter that game assuming
you're gonna win the turnover battle by two or three.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
That's just not gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
And so far we haven't really seen Philadelphia be able
to well because they even't had to win when it's
even like when it's both teams got one or both
teams got zero or both teams, whatever it is. If
you go back to the Rams game last week, I
think you and I spoke off the airports are recording
that it were not for those two fumbles.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
I mean the Rams had them.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
They were right there, you know, throughout a lot of
that game, just those two fumbled won by Stafford, won
by Kyro Williams at like the on your side of
the field at the worst possible time, and it goes
from a one point game to a two score game
in like five minutes.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
And as good as Sakwon.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
Barkley is and if you if you look at some
of his numbers, I mean the fifty five points is
one thing, but I mean sa Kwon Barkley in the playoffs, uh,
four hundred and forty two rushing yards, three hundred and
seventeen after contact, five touchdowns, eight runs over fifteen yards,
three touchdowns over sixty yards, Like.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
He's gonna have a chance to pop.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
I mean, James, it's mad in number.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
But you know you cannot count on you always getting
multiple turnovers against the other team being ahead. And when
you go up against Patrick Mahomes and history says that
he's not gonna turn the ball over history says that
he's not gonna, you know, put his team behind the
sticks all that often, and history says that when it's
a key third down, fourth down conversion, he's gonna make it.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
So until I guess.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
We won't two weeks until Philadelphia shows that they don't
need to have all the breaks go their way for
them to win against a quality opponent, you know, we'll
see what happens.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
And it should be noted that to quickly go back,
you know you mentioned Saquon in the running game, I
decided to look again at the rushing SATs from Casey
and Buffalo. Buffalo through thirty four passes ran thirty two times,
Kansas City through twenty six passes ran thirty five times.
So I know everybody says it's a passing league. When
(19:30):
you get to these conference championship level games divisional, you
need to be able to run the football. And it's
just the New York Giants giving up on Saquan is
just comedy. I mean, hell, Rob your Raiders giving up
on Josh Jacobs behind tight looks silly. The Packers run
game was great. I wonder if that will bolster some
of these rookie running backs. In the draft, Treveon Henderson,
(19:51):
even the other kid from Ohio State, like, you got
to take an extra You need to be able to
run the football in these cold weather games. One quarter
other quick Noe rob So do you remember Ohio State?
Notre Dame. To bring that back again, they ran a
play where Jeremiah Smith was kind of uncovered and he
ran into the backfield and then went white back out
(20:13):
and he was wide open for the touchdown. I don't
know if you guys remember that play. Yes, Okay, So
on the Dalton Kincaid drop. A lot of people are
breaking down that play and it looked like they ran
a similar play to Ohio State. Shakir came into the
backfield like Jeremiah Smith and then came out and everybody's looking,
oh my gosh, he was uncovered. The difference here is
(20:34):
Kansas City blitzed. They guessed the right side or I
guess they knew that. That's the way that the play
was designed. You get McDuffie as a free role basically
to the quarterback, and Alan didn't have time to go
back to Shakir. But if you look at the next
gen stats breakdown, Shakira's wide open now again, you're under duress.
It's the heat of the moment. Anybody who's played sports
(20:55):
knows it's tough as hell, and I'm not going to
criticize Alan for that. But I don't think this is
one of those results where Dan Quinn comes under scrutiny
because he's a defensive guy and they gave up fifty five,
or McDermott comes under scrutiny because they could barely get
stops against Patrick Mahomes, you know, and maybe you need
a new voice. I don't think there's any of that here.
(21:16):
It just strikes me as this was a super close game,
came down to the fourth quarter, King kaid a drop
one referee bullshit call on the fourth in inches, and
then Mahomes delivered on the final drive to and then
with a field goal. This could have easily, by the
way rob ended the same way the Super Bowl did,
where Mahomes was held to a field goal, and if
Josh Allen went down the field and scored a touchdown,
(21:37):
it would have been the inverse. Hurdie was held to
a field goal. Mahomes comes down touchdown, but Alan didn't
get there, and Spagnolo and Reid and company are headed
back to the Super Bowl. I'm gonna go ahead and
probably take the Eagles here more than your head, though,
isn't it this? Yeah? Yeah, no, I'm just actively rudy.
I might just lean into it. You know, chiefs fans
(21:59):
all up in my business.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
Well quickly you kind of just brush them there.
Speaker 4 (22:04):
Do you really think that Sean McDermott is not on
any kind of hot seat today? I mean, whether it's
fair or foul, that's a different conversation. You don't think entering,
you know, this Pro Bowl week, that there aren't gonna
be conversations in Buffalo about his future with the franchise.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
I don't. I mean, I guess the alternative is okay. Sure,
you could say, hey man, let's let's let's get rid
of mctrurmot. All right, well what's the game plan? And
I'll point you to Dallas, where Jerry thought he had.
McCarthy thought so confidently that he had no backup plan. Okay,
McCarthy says, you know what, that deal doesn't work for me.
(22:41):
I'm out. And then Jerry's like, oh, we'll go get
Dian and Dion's like thanks, but no thanks. And then
Jerry's sitting there like, oh, Dux, I miscalculated some things
and you got you end up on Brian Schottenheimer. Like,
I don't think if you're Buffalo you can move on
from McDermott. Does he eventually have to break through? Sure?
Were Andy Reid and Philly rob Andy Reid? What he
(23:03):
lose three or four NFC championship games and then they
dumped him. This is only two for McDermott. I just
I don't know. I don't think you can really say, like,
hey man, we got to try something. I don't think
after this one if they lose another one, maybe.
Speaker 4 (23:19):
But you want to say you had to lose to
the Chiefs five times in the playoff for them to
feel like they got to make a decision.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
Well wait, did McDermott lose all of them?
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Yeah, he's lost four of them.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
Now it's him and Josh Allen both have the record
for most losses to one opponent. So that's kind of wild.
That's not history you want to be a part of. Now,
I'm with you. I personally would not let him go,
but just to play Devil's advocate.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
What we're seeing.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
We just talked about his open the podcast, Josh Allen
and Patrick Mahomes. The gap is not as big as
people might think. Like, given the reputation that Patrick Mahomes has,
he's the greatest, you know, we all know that. But
Josh Allen is not chopped liver. It's it's not the
grand came between those guys. Where the Chiefs keep winning
is on the margins with coaching. So you go back
a couple of years with the the thirteen seconds you know,
(24:04):
not kicking the squip kick on the kickoff for that
playoff game. You go back to last year and even
though I thought he called the clean game, they kind
of newter Josh Allen for most of the game if
you were a call like and it wasn't until the
very end when he had to make a couple of
yolo passes and he missed fire and a couple led
to a field goal that they missed and that was
the end of it. Then you flash forward to this
(24:26):
year and people might say, hey, why would you challenge
that worthy catch that we talked about a few minutes
ago when you already had a defensive holding call. So
even if you get it, they still get a first down. Like,
what's the point.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah, I didn't like that challenge, but thank you for
bringing that up. I don't think there's any argument. I mean,
Roe again, this is another one. This is two weeks
in a row where announcers, the announcing team is like,
what's going on here, Romo Nance and their referee guy
all were like, yeah, there was no control. The ball
(25:01):
hit the ground, you know, like again, that's another call.
It just happens to go the Chief's way. Again. It
was the end of the first half, but it put
him down eleven once. The Chiefs ended up scoring a
couple of plays later, you know.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
Right, and so again just Devil's advocate with McDermott. So
you have that one, and then you know some of
their third down defense is there at the end, especially
on the clinching drive by the Chiefs, where you know,
Andy Reid is not a conservative guy. You know, at
some point he's gonna put the ball in Patrick Mahomes's hands,
and of course it worked out. But to allow five
(25:34):
of nine on third down against Kans, like as a
defensive coach like that kind of stuff matters. And at
some point, at maybe Buffalo, because they're not a huge market,
they don't get some kind of pressure, but at some point.
You don't think that there's a conversation where it's like, hey,
that happened Andy Reid in Philadelphia, it happened to Tony Dungeye
in Tampa, and John Ruden came right in and won
(25:55):
a Super Bowl. A couple of years after Andy Reid,
Doug Peterson wins the Super Bowl, why not turn it
over to Joe Brady and see what happens? Like, I
don't think because they keep coming up short to the
same team over and over.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
You know, they say, is the definition definition of Sanny?
Do this some thing over and over like different results.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
Like that's kind of where they're they could be at
with Sean McDermott. I feel I don't think it's as
easy as Hey, you lost.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
You know we'll get him next year, damn.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
So that would be sweet if if the job comes
open and all of a sudden, Hey, would you like
to coach Josh Allen?
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Yeah, now get that I would not do that, But
I'm just I feel like there's gonna be conversations. You
can't keep losing heartbreakers like this and expect it to
be the status quote year in a year out.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah, I mean again, if they if this would have
been at home. Maybe let's say they were underdogs on
the road against Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (26:48):

Speaker 2 (27:00):
You and I Rob are in this business. We talk sports.
We have takes. What's your excitement level for two weeks
of Oh it's a rematch from two years ago? It
is two years ago.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Right, yes?
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (27:16):
I mean, can I claim to be excited because it
is a Fox Super Bowl? So in that regard, I'm
very exciting.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
I'm very pumped. We're gonna do Super Bowl content on
this pod obviously at the heart of New Orleans. Like,
I'm excited for that. But it does feel a little
like you remember how the SEC dominated in every I
think it was like Alabama Clemson three out of four
years or something. People were just kind of fatigued. I
do wonder if there will be Chiefs fatigue because they're
here every year. I mean, I know for myself when
(27:43):
I was a pre pre getting a Fox, it was
like Patriots every year. I was like, eh, you know,
and it would be just this is before I was
all in on every Sunday, I'm in front of TV
for twelve hours for four months. Like I wasn't like this. Yes,
in early two thousands when the Patriots were dominated, I
(28:03):
definitely I was like, I'm in my twenties living in
New York City. There's no way I'm wasting seventeen at
the time, seventeen straight Sundays sitting room in front of
a TV. I'm like trying to go on dates, meet girls,
i have fun, working off hangovers. Like I was not
doing this in my twenties. Now that I'm older with
a family and you know, a mortgage to pay, Yeah,
this is this is my life. I mean, trust me,
I'm locked down on Lakers Warriors Saturday. Now, Okay, went
(28:26):
two and three in college hoops, betting not great on Saturday,
but like, this is this is what I do. So
obviously I'm gonna find angles. I just there is a
part of me that's just a little letdown that it's
just same ulshit.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Yeah, and a part of it is also and you
know last night the Age Championship and now was standing.
The Chiefs don't play an exciting brand of football, at
least the last year and a half have not.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
You know.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Now, they turned it on in the playoffs last year.
Credit to them for doing that. They turned it on.
Obviously they ste championship game this year, but by and
large it's you know, a three point win here there,
it's you know, win with defense, let the other team
make It's very Patriots like, and people got tired of
the Patriots very very quickly. And it wasn't until we
had the second renaissance with Tom Brady where it was
(29:16):
less about the Patriots and more about Brady, and it
was like, well, Brady did it again. The mythology of
Tom Brady, like the goat is the goat for goat reasons,
and as good as Patrick Mahomes is, and again I
think he's the greatest and he's going to be the greatest.
I don't think we're at that point yet where it's like, oh,
this is just Mahomes doing Mahome stuff. We're still in
(29:36):
this middle of this phase where it's the Chiefs and
people are kind of burned down on the Chiefs part
of it.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
You go look at next Gen stats, it's free, anybody
can view it. Do you want to guess Rob how
many passes over fifteen yards down the field. Patrick Mahomes
attempted against the Bills. Ooh three over fifteen yards close
four he was one of four. That's just fifteen yard throw.
And the beauty of this is you can go back
(30:02):
to twenty nineteen and look up. Let's see here Patrick
Mahomes uh in twenty nineteen. If you go look at
that Super Bowl against the Niners over fifteen yards, I'll
just quickly cut him up. One two, three, four, five,
six seven eight nine. Wow is that tenfold, four, five, six,
(30:23):
seven eight not nine? And it's like one was an interception,
three were completions. It's like, yeah, it's a different game now.
They had Tyreek Hill and they needed the one bomb
to Tyreek Hill. But it's not like the game's played
in a phone booth now where it's just all dink
and dunk and I you're right, it does strike me
as a little bit boring. Let me quickly look at
Josh Allen's chart. Over fifteen yards downfield. He attempted one, two, three, four, five,
(30:51):
six seven seven, so a little bit more and he
was three. One of them was a touchdown. Oh the
mc collins THO. By the way, how about Mac Collins.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Huh, Matt Collins, Eh, I mean former Eagle, former Raider.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Former Raider always shows up in funny clothes.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Yeah, that's like his stick.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
And I don't want the listeners to be like, well, hey,
you know, if you're not throwing deep pass, you're not exciting.
Like that's you know, like that's not what we're saying
at all, because if you think about it, the Philadelphia
Eagles don't have a great deep passing game, but because
Saquon Barkley every time he touches the ball is a
threat to take at the distance, that makes them exciting.
I like Isaiah, but Checko, I think Kareem Hunt's having
(31:28):
a nice resurgence. I don't get the same vibes when
they get the ball that I'm like, oh, anything might
happen at any moment. The Detroit Lions, even when you know
they throw the ball a good amount, the play designs
and Jamir Gibbs and even just the way that David
Montgomery runs, they play an exciting Brandon football. The Baltimore
ravens Lamar Jackson, Derek Kenny, every time they touch it
(31:51):
you might see fireworks. And you just don't get that
with the Chiefs there and they're effective and it's just different.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
It's funny you mentioned the line because now I'm thinking
back to their loss in the playoffs and Jared Goff
had two deep ones that were picked off, and it's like, hey,
maybe if you're maybe, if you're taking the check down
like Mahomes is doing, uh, you're not. You're not risking
the ball and putting it in harm's way. No interception
for Mahomes. Alan almost drew a couple early and then
they really were like, oh well wait.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Yeah, he said he had set down because he was
a little too jacked up in the beginning.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Yeah, like, you know, you play a basketball game, you're stoked,
dur in the championship, your first shot might be an airball,
you know, or a brick because you're just so amped.
And that felt like Alan early and they calmed him down,
and second half they came out and just ran the
football down their throats. So listen. Ultimately, great game. I
hope the Chief stands who are listening are happy. Uh
you guys, you know, were fortunate on that one call
(32:46):
by the refs, But ultimately, hey, Mahomes got it done
once again. Greatness. Maybe greatness can be boring. You know,
it's like, hey, you want to you want to win investing,
go buy a bunch of ETFs, buy and hold stocks,
put it in the mark to buy an index fund.
It's boring. But you know what, check back in twenty
five years and let me know how that two million
dollars tastes. You know, like that that investing should be boring. Now.
(33:09):
Of course, Jason over here, I'm like, hey me, let
me buy into this basketball team in New Zealand.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Let me get in a soccer team in Mexico. And oh,
by the way, now I'm in a soccer team in Colombia.
Not as heavy as his investment as the initial soccer team,
but you know, like I want that risk. My son
is like, hey, Dad, I could do some things with
this pitcoin. Can you get me a coinbase account? And
now he's trading crypto, hoping to shoot for the moon.
A lot of these gamblers, what do they want to do?
(33:34):
They want the same game parlay rob you bet you
bet fifty, you can win two thousand.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
Dollars, that's right.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Why would I put two hundred and fifty bucks on
a prop when I can when I can shoot for
the moon and win twenty five hundred dollars on the
same game. Parlay, Well, that's stupid and you're probably not
gonna win, you know, so slow and steady usually wins
the race. I mean, there's a lot of analogies to
life there. And I don't know. The Chiefs are back
and the Eagles are back. I will. I mean, listen,
(34:01):
we got two weeks to let this to think about
the game, but I will. What's a total rob on
the game? Did you see he? Or? No?
Speaker 3 (34:09):
I have not.
Speaker 4 (34:09):
But while I'm looking it up, can I just send
one parting shot to all the Chiefs fans, you know,
as we build up to the Super Bowl? Yeah, savor
it while you can, because Pete Carroll's in Vegas now
and the Reign of Terror is over?
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Okay, Oh for Pete Carrol. Yeah, we'll talk about Pete
Carroll and Shoddy this week. The totals forty nine, I
would be looking at the over. I already did tease
the Eagles up to plus eight and Chiefs Eagles total
down to forty three because I think it'll go over
forty three. So listen, teasers have been straight cash Homie
(34:44):
to quote Randy Moss, So I don't think the Chiefs
blow them out. She's don't really blow out anybody good,
do they? And Eagles will be able to hang around,
should control the clock. I think Saquon should have a
field day against his team. Probably not a buck fifty,
but remember two weeks to get Saquon healthy that. It's
pretty damn good their linebackers in coverage. I know Zach
Ertz had a big game, Kelsey could be in line.
(35:05):
But yeah, away we go. We got a good interview
coming up tomorrow. Enjoy it the Chiefs fans, we'll talk
to you then
