Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is straight Fire with Jason McIntyre.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
What is up? Straight fire, fam, It's me Jason McIntyre,
Straight Foyer for Thursday, May the fifteenth. The NFL schedule
has been released. I know everybody's all fired up and
excited to bet over unders. We'll to have some of
them for ya. Listen, you guys know these bets won't
(00:32):
pay out for seven months. Nobody wants to tie up
a lot of capital over unders. When if a quarterback
goes down a week two your toast. So obviously we
got to be smart about it. But we can look
to the teams that we kind of have an eye
on that are going to be sinking some rising obviously,
so that'll be very, very fun. We'll get into that
Golden State Warriors, it's over. Had a nice little run.
(00:54):
No Steph Curry, no chance. Timberwolves advanced to face the
Oklahoma City Thunder. I mean the Thunder need to win
in Denver, not a given. Should be a really good
game tonight, I mean almost all of them have been
except for Game two than Thunder one by like forty five.
And then of course my knicks could not close out
(01:15):
the Celtics. Interesting stuff, we'll get too shortly. Joe Mizzoula
made a couple of tiny moves that really were smart
about damn time he did something. But let's not overreact
to Jason Tatum not being there. Well, we'll talk about
that in a minute, but I do want to start
with the NFL schedule release, because everybody gets fired up.
There's nothing like football here in America when it comes
to sports. We know that the NBA is dominant culturally,
(01:37):
the NFL's dominant with the gambling, the fantasy. There's only
seventeen games. It's you know, obviously the Sundays are really
fun and exciting. But now you got Tuesday, Sorry, not Tuesday.
You've got Thursday night football. You've got a season opener
Friday in Brazil. You've got Monday night. Vote is Sunday
night like it is. It's a long, exciting season. We
(01:58):
obviously can't wait for it. But if you want just
the big picture, high level analysis at large, here we go.
I think, undeniably, the teams that came out with the
worst schedules. Now we knew the opponents for months, right,
We've known this. Okay, we knew the New York Giants
were gonna have a really really difficult schedule. Okay, we
(02:23):
did not know what was going to be this bad, folks.
This is where order matters. So the Giants, Okay, these
are their first These are first nine games. You tell
me how many wins they got here at Washington, they're
gonna be underdogs considerably to Jayden Daniels. At Dallas, slight
underdog versus the Chiefs, Okay, versus the Chargers. At the Saints,
(02:46):
that should be a game that they circle to get
the dub. Right at the Saints in Week five, for sure,
I think they could maybe beat Dallas, but I think
they'll beat the Saints. Then you host the Eagles at Denver.
And I'm just telling you right now, folks, Denver is
a by now team. Okay, that defense, You look at
all the pieces they got. Even if both Knicks regresses
(03:07):
a little bit, that team is gonna be in a
lot of games this year. They are a feisty team.
Keep an eye on Denver. Then the Giants have to
go to Philadelphia, Then they host San Francisco. Those are
their first nine by any measure you want, right over undertotals, right,
(03:28):
most teams bet to win the suit. Whatever you want
to use for this season. That is the toughest nine
game stretch to start the season. I mean, guys, if
they're two and seven, they might that might be fortunate.
I say, somehow get off three wins. Great, But this
is why the whole Brian Dabole and Joe Shane trading
back into the first round for Jackson Dart is insane.
(03:51):
If they start too and seven, they would then need
to go assuming they survive that, you go to and
see and maybe the Giants just getting blasted in every game.
I don't know, they would need to go something insane
like six and one down the stretch, sorry, seven and
one down the stretch, six and two to salvage their
(04:14):
jobs and make it. Hey man, we got to give
these guys another chance. I just I don't know. The
New York Giants schedule arguably the toughest.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
In the league.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
But one team that I will be betting their win
total under when I hit up Vegas is the Detroit Lions,
and I know that's not gonna be popular. I've had
two great seasons back to back. Dan Campbell's got a squad,
but we know they lost the offensive coordinator and the
defensive coordinator and then you get the schedule and it
is just riddled with primetime games galore and difficult matchups galore.
(04:46):
Oh my gosh. Now, the division we know is tough,
but they also have to face the AFC North and
they have to travel to Baltimore and Cincinnati. That's games
at Lamar Jackson at Joe Burrow early in the season. Now,
obviously the Bengals don't have a defense, so that should
be a close game, but also on the road. So
these are the Lions road games at Green Bay to
(05:08):
open the season, at Baltimore week three, at the Bengals
week five, at the Chiefs week six. That's just before
their bye week. Their first seven games. If they're four
and three, that's a win for Detroit. I don't think
they'll be four and three. I'm looking at three and
four after the bye week. Still, they have back to
back road trips at Washington at Philly. They have to
(05:29):
go to the Rams, which is indoors and not that bad.
But the only bullet that was dodged here by the Lions,
and Warren Sharp had a good point about this, we'll
try to get on the pod next week is all
the outdoor games that they have are early. Imagine if
they had to go to Baltimore in December, or to
Cincinnati in November, to Kansas City in December. They got
(05:54):
a little lucky. It was almost as if the schedule
of gods gave them a break. They're only cold game
for sure is going to be the Bears in week eighteen,
and that game may not even matter. The other road
games at Minnesota Dome at Rams Dome so far, and
at Philadelphia is the only other outdoor game, but that's
(06:14):
November sixteenth. It's probably not going to be arctic weather
in Philly. So bad news for the Lions right, brutal schedule,
but we knew that they kind of sort of dodge
a bullet when it comes to where and when the
games are. As such, I'm taking the Lions season win
total under ten and a half. That will be one
of mine. I'm sorry, I just I don't. I think
(06:37):
there is clear regression on both sides of the football.
Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, I'm not calling them the
brains behind the operation. You know, you can only raw
rock can only take you so far before, like the
smart guys really need to carry you. And I think
the smart guy's just left. Now. I'm not diminishing Dan Campbell.
He's done a phenomenal job, but we know he's more
(06:57):
of a walk around guy than like a sche mat
x Is and O's genius. So Lions are a team
I'm targeting under for sure. Let's see here. The next
one that I had on the list is the San
Francisco forty nine Ers, who have, by several metrics, the
easiest schedule in the NFL. Now the forty nine Ers,
(07:20):
a lot of people are saying, oh, I don't know,
major step back. They lose five defensive starters. Forty nine
Ers lost Deebo Samuel. We don't know if Brandon and
Yuk's going to be ready at the start of the
season given his ac We don't know brock Perty is
still not. It could be tough, guys. Oh my gosh.
So I'm going to go through. These are the quarterbacks
(07:40):
the Niners face Sam Donald in his first game for
the Seahawks. Okay, first game for the Seahawks, and Sam
Donald's been with the Niners before, they have seen him.
They're not gonna be surprised or caught off guard by anything.
Seattle kind of sort of rebuilding. You know, no Lockett,
no Metcalf, got it. Two the Niners travel to New Orleans,
(08:02):
They're either going to have Spencer Ratler, Tyler Shook, or
whoever they held that other guy is. Then it's Kyler Murray,
Trevor Lawrence, the first tough quarterback, Matt Stafford in Week
five at Baker Mayfield six, Michael Pennix, who is essentially
a rookie. I mean it's a second year at this point,
he'll have like eight starts under his belt. Then it's
at C. J. Stroud, who clearly regressed and their offensive
(08:25):
line has a lot of questions, maybe one of the
biggest question marks of any offensive line grouping from a
team that made the playoffs last year. Then it's at
the Giants that could be Russell Wilson, Jamis Winston, Jackson Dart,
who the hell knows? Stafford again, Kyler Murray again, Bryce Young,
assuming he's still the starter. Cleveland, it's anybody's guess who
they're going to be starting in November. They have one
(08:46):
of the lowest win totals in the league. Then it's
cam Ward, who you know, I would assume he's still
the starter at that point. By the way cam Ward
has to open against that bon Knicks defense, Denver is
a good bet in Week one. Then it's the Indianapolis Colts.
Their quarterback situation kind of the shrug emoji, Joe Flacco
or Anthony Richardson, who the hell knows. Then it's Caleb
(09:09):
Williams and then Sam Darnold book ending the season. So
you guys know that mostly the top five quarterbacks in
the league are Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow,
and I think Jalen Hurts It be five. They don't
have to face any of them whole season. They dodge
all of the top five quarterbacks. There's a world where
(09:31):
the Niners are the number one seed. I think their
win total, I think you've got to go over or pass.
If you have questions about Perty and company, fine, I
think the Niners over is a good one.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Another easy schedule. And this is a team I don't like,
so I wouldn't bet. I might like do like a
meal bet with cowhurt on this one. But the New
England Patriots have the easiest home schedule in the NFL,
easiest at home, second, easiest overall schedule, and again a
(10:15):
lot of this comes down to who do you play
and when. Obviously they have to face Josh Allen twice,
and they do have to face the Joe Burrow on
the road and Lamar Jackson as well. But I think
we can agree that Jets are not in a good
place right now. Miami appears to be slip sliding. It's early.
I don't have any faith at all in New Orleans, Carolina,
(10:36):
Vegas will see. But the New England Patriots are a
sneaky wild card team that I think you probably need
to look at. So those are just a couple of
the teams. Philadelphia has a tough schedule. I will not
be on their overwin total. I do like Minnesota, but
again they have a difficult schedule. I think the Buffalo
Bills if you ask me, Hey, Jay, you've now seen
(10:58):
the schedule, the draft reagency, I think I will have
the Buffalo Bills in the super Bowl. Now they open
in a I mean week one has some baggers, folks.
Buffalo hosting Baltimore Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Sunday Night Football.
That's about as good as it gets. Now, No, you
(11:18):
gotta worry, Buffalo could get looking get caught looking ahead
to Week two against my Jets. Tough, tough match up
with Justin Fields, but Josh Allen Lamar Jackson. That must
see TV right out of the gate, regardless of what
happens to the Bills in that one. After that, it's Jets, Dolphins, Saints, Patriots, Falcons.
They will be favored in all of those games. And
my guess is since Buffalo gets Baltimore at home and
(11:41):
Kansas City at home, there's a world where they're favored
in every game. Now. I haven't seen lines for every
game yet, but it appears that Buffalo is going to
be favored in just about every game this season. So
those are the toughest and the easiest schedules based on
(12:01):
what I saw some of the interesting Week one lines
I already mentioned Denver and Tennessee. Denver at home at
altitude always has an edge early and they're facing a
rookie quarterback. It's I mean, we're talking about Patrick Sirtan.
That's a no fly zone. They're probably gonna have like
a top four defense in the league. I'm just I'm
(12:23):
not saying lay the lumber on the Broncos. Again, bo
Nicks as a seven point favorite. Come on, but that
is a game I have circled. I do like the Broncos. There,
I know you're not gonna like this one. I like
the Jets. Guys in Week one, I'm sorry in the scheduling,
folks did a really good job. Week one is phenomenal, obviously,
(12:46):
but the Jets host the Pittsburgh Steelers. So Justin Fields
was the QB of the Steelers last year. He's now
the Jets quarterback. And if Aaron Rodgers ends up signing
with the Steelers, Aaron Rodgers will return to Met Life
where two years ago in the season opener he got
taken down popped his achilles. I think the Jets getting
two and a half at home? Well here, how's this?
(13:08):
If Aaron Rodgers doesn't show up, are the Jets suddenly
favored in this game? Probably Mason Rudolph favorite on the road.
I don't think so. And I'm just gonna remind some people.
And again, I know nobody cares about the Jets because
they're never good. But as a nerd who's a huge fan,
I just want to remind people Jermaine Johnson, who was
a menace as a rookie last year. I don't know
(13:31):
if he played at all. I know he got injured early.
It was either in preseason or in like Week one,
but yeah, no, no, he got injured in I'm sorry
he got injured in Week three against Tennessee. But three
years ago, I'm sorry. As a rookie he showed some
promise and then in twenty twenty three is the year
he kind of sort of popped with seven and a
(13:52):
half sacks. He'll be opposite Will McDonald. I'm just telling
you Jets Will. Their defense is gonna be really strong. Now.
Is it gonna be strong enough to beat the Bills?
Probably not, But I think do think that, you know,
given the pass rush that they've got, uh the offensive line,
that the trenches are good. I think I like Jets
against Pittsburgh in the opener, although although we do know
(14:14):
Mike Tomlin one of the better coaches in the league.
I just wanted to see a pull a rabbit out
of the hat with Mason frickin Rudolph in the opener.
I'm not buying those guys at all. Let me see
so week one, this is why everybody's all excited. Dallas
at Philly Thursday Night Football. Whatever Eagles are favored by
a touchdown, Eagles should be fine. Then Friday, Casey Chargers
(14:40):
from South Paulo, Brazil. Apparently this game is only available
on YouTube at least that's what it's showing here. That's
not fun. I don't see a line on that game
as of yet. Cincinnati at Cleveland. We know Joe Burrow
has been a notorious slow starter early in this He's
(15:00):
in like the last three years. We'll see what happens
if he's extra motivated this year. Maybe he actually plays
in the preseason or doesn't have a surgery or something.
What else do we have here? San fran at Seattle,
San fran only one and a half. Come on, san Franz.
I'll losing that. And then Baltimore Buffalo, And then the
(15:21):
Monday night game is Ben Johnson his debut as Bears
coach against JJ McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings. So should
be able to It's so easy to get fired up
about the NFL. Yes, four months in advance.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
All right, pivot to the NBA. Were my Nicks you
don't want to say they know showed because they had
a good first half. They led after the first quarter.
I actually looking to bet Celtics first quarter because I
thought they would come out all fired up for them
to win it for Tatum and the Knicks would come
out feeling themselves. Didn't quite work out that way, but
the game was tied at halftime. At halftime, Joe Mizzoula
(16:13):
made a pretty good move. First of all, he started
Horford and Perzingis. That was bad. Those are two immobile guys. Really,
he realized pretty quickly. Porzingis doesn't have it. He's got
the illness. He pivots to Luke Cornett, the immortal Vanderbilt
center who was a let me see here. Luke Cornett
(16:34):
was undrafted. He has been on Let's see Nicks, Bulls, Celtics, Calves, Bucks, Bulls.
He's bounced around the league. It's safe to say started
more games this season, second most games of his career.
This season as sixteen, Luke Cornett was everywhere. Okay, he
(16:56):
understood the assignment play defense. Zinis was not. Luke Cornette
had seven block shots in twenty six minutes. He was
plus twenty. Coming off the bench. He had ten points,
nine rebounds, seven blocks. When Luke Cornett is chasing a
triple double in TD Garden, you know Boston's gonna win
(17:19):
the game. Okay, That's just how it went. Peyton Pritchard
hit five threes, Derek White hit seven threes. Jalen Brown
was solid. I did like what I saw from Jalen
Brown as a playmaker. He had twelve assists. And I
know a lot of people are gonna get all caught up. Well,
they're better with Tatum on the bench or without Tatum.
With Tatum obviously the Achilles he's out, they're better without Tatum.
(17:41):
He's a ball. He takes too many shots. Okay. So
I'm on a text chain with these two guys, these
two guys I played basketball with, and one of them is,
you know, really tight with Peyton Pritchard, and I'm wondering
if he's getting this, and he's like, oh, I'm not
getting this from Peyton I just I watch a lot
of Celtics, and I think they're better without Tatum. The
ball pops around. Celtics did have twenty seven assists. The
(18:02):
ball was moving. I just I cautioned people to overreact
to one game at home where their role players really
really showed well and the Knicks uncharacteristically. Jalen Brown fouled
out with like eight minutes left. Very strange. Og Arnobi
one for twelve, total non factor, Mikail Bridges four for fourteen.
(18:29):
When you're starting forwards go five for twenty six, you're
not winning anything. So it kind of they lost the
rope in the third quarter and it was just a runaway.
I mean, Josh Hart was basically the next best player
hit five threes. That's out of character for him. And
I do believe the Knicks are three point favorites going
(18:49):
home for Game six in what should be Friday night.
I mean goodness, I had to cancel some plans because
I can't miss this game. Obviously, the roles have shifted.
Austin went from being the hunted defending champs and now
they're coming after New York. Everybody's placed the Knicks against
the Pacers in the Conference Finals. Well, they're done without Tatum,
(19:10):
and that's probably the case, but for a night, it
certainly looked like this ain't over now, I do think
I did find it interesting that Derek White log forty minutes,
Jaylen Brown thirty seven, drew Holiday thirty three, and that
my friend Peyton Pritchard thirty nine minutes that was in
(19:31):
a twenty five point victory. Now you got a day
off and you travel to the Garden, which is just
gonna be absolutely lit up like it. I mean, I
think I thought Seventh Avenue was basically a parking lot
for New York Knicks fans after the other game. What
do you think it's gonna be Friday night? It is
gonna be complete and utter chaos. I'm assuming Timothy Chalomey
(19:53):
will show up with Kendall and Kyrie Jenner, because that's
just who he is. One of the funniest memes I
saw was that let's see here. I just want to
get the exact saying right. So you guys know, I
saw Dune and Done Too with Timothy Shallomey, and I
was like, this guy, Doune, it's really good. Even if
you like Star Wars, you gotta love Dune and Doom too.
(20:14):
If you're not into that sci fi stuff, just check
it out anyway, because I promise you it's cool this
guy wrote. Because there's a bunch of photos of Challa
May with Kylie Jenner and Kendall And even if you
don't care about them, just listen. Bro got too born
and raised La batties at the garden cheering for the Knicks.
He really is the Lissan al Gaib, which is just
(20:38):
a reference to Dune. In the movie, he was like
the savior and they finally, you know, they found him
and they're all like, oh my gosh, you're the Savior
of Lissan. I'll GiB. And it's really really cool that
this guy incorporated this with the Nicks and the generous Sisters.
I just I could not stop laughing at that, legitimately
laughing out loud. Send it to somebody's It was. First
(21:01):
of all, the Dune movies are great, I promise you.
And then I hiked the Timothy shallow May Bob Dylan movie.
That was good. I'm a Shallowy fan, Like, I know
this's gonna sound super nerdy. I don't even care if
he moved in like on my block and I like
saw him getting the mail, I'd probably be like, what's up,
you know, try to become friends with them. He just
seems fun man, a good actor, is huge sports fan.
(21:23):
Remember he went on game day and was like rattling
off I don't know Wisconsin Badger's stats or something crazy
it was. He just seems like a good dude. And
he's gonna be at the Garden. Obviously, they're gonna have
fifty million a listeners there, probably one of the most
expensive ticket prices. And you do want to close out
the Celtics. Though you definitely want to close them out
in Game six, you do not want to have to
(21:45):
go back to Boston right and face them. And I
do believe Game seven would be set for is it
Sunday or Monday? Yeah, it's saying the nineteenth, which is Monday. Ooh,
And that would be an extra day of rest that
could be huge for Boston. So the Knicks have to
close it out. The pressure will all be on the Knicks, Boston,
(22:11):
no pressure. Their SuperStar's gone. They're now the underdog. And
I wonder if Thibodeau is gonna have seen something in
the Cornette Peyton Pritchard like Honestly, they look way better
going with four guards and Luke Cornett. I'm not I
mean well, I mean Jaylen Brown, Derek White, Drew Holliday,
(22:31):
Peyton Pritchard and Cornett. That lineup like shock the Knicks.
They were definitely not ready for that. And I think
the Knicks get the job done. But I do have
some concerns. Man. You know, remember they led three to
two against the Pacers last year and in Game seven
it all kind of fell apart. Like the Knicks, I
haven't closed out a series at home and quite some time.
(22:54):
This won't be easy. And then what do we have tonight?
I guess, Oh, we got the uh Game six of
Denver OKC. I will obviously be rooting for Denver in
that one. I guess we could do a Golden State Warriors.
Oh bit, you know a little later on maybe next week.
(23:15):
I'll just I'll just say this. I looked at their
salary cap situation. It's obviously not great. I don't know
what like the market of Jimmy Butler, Like are people
clamoring to get into Jimmy Butler business? I don't know,
And my guests would be probably not. Jonathan kaminga borderline
unplayable by Steve Kerr when Curry and they were clicking,
(23:38):
but then you forced Kaminga into the series with Curry out,
and he like looks kind of good, So I don't
know what you do with him. I mean, buddy here
clearly shot the moon there for a couple for a
minute and then kind of fades. You got him. Kevin
Looney's probably done, Gary Payton's probably done. I think you know,
Moses Moody has a lot of money coming his way
(23:58):
and they fell out of love with him in this series.
Just to all around strange series for Golden State once
Curry went down, but that's kind of what happens when
you lose your superstar. So not going to overreact early.
Lean is to Minnesota in the series, but still got
a lot of work to do over the weekend. All right,
that's it. Tomorrow we I think we got a guess
(24:22):
for a surprise that should be fun that you should like.
All right, that's it talking about
