Speaker 1 (00:00):
That the gentiles should be fellow heirs of the same
body and partakers of His promise in Christ by the
Gospel Ephesians three to six. Thank you, Lord for making
your glorious salvation available to the gentiles, and not just
the nation of Israel. You wanted the whole world to
(00:20):
have the opportunity to know you, not just the God
of Israel, but the one true, living God over all people.
You showed your sovereignty first through your chosen people, but
when they rejected you, the gentiles were given a divine opportunity.
You do not want anyone to perish, and have made
(00:42):
all people who accept the promise of Christ equal partakers
in his inheritance. Your goodness is without measure, and your
love is unconditional. You are the power connection to abundant life. Amen.
Thank you for listening to today's daily prayer. For more

blind pastor.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
Hi, my name is Chad Roberts.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
I want to welcome all of the prey dot com
audience on this featured Sunday. Today, we're in Luke chapter
twenty four. We're talking about the two disciples on the
road to Amaeus, and you know, they were so sad
because of the death of Jesus. But you know what,
they didn't recognize Jesus was with them. There are so
(01:54):
many people today that they live defeated. They're trying to
get just through this stage of life for to the
next big thing, and they don't recognize that Jesus is
with them. Right now, friends, you're going to be inspired
and encouraged by what you hear today. I also have
(02:14):
some special music from our church that we want to
play for you at the end of today's program, so
I hope you'll listen all the way through. Thank you
so much for joining us today on pray dot Com.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Luke chapter twenty four. I want to introduce you this
morning to two men who were disciples. They were followers of.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Jesus, and I think that you and I are going
to resonate with these two men. We're not going to
judge them, We're not going to throw stones at them,
because I think that if you and I look carefully
in the text today, we're going to see ourselves. I
see myself in it. I'll tell you that, you know,
(03:06):
a lot of times when we think about the disciples
of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
We only think of the twelve that he initially chose.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
But what the scripture says is that in the Upper
Room and Acts chapter two, there are actually one hundred
twenty believers there. At the time of Christ's ascension, forty
days after his resurrection, there were five hundred disciples believers.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
There were far more than just the original twelve.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I don't know who these two men were, but I
planned to find out when I get to heaven. I
wonder how they encountered Jesus.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
I just you know.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I wonder could they have been two of the four
friends who lowered the paralytic.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Men down to Jesus. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Could they have been in the synagogue the morning that
the man with the withered hand tucked away when Jesus said,
stretch out your.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Hand and it was healed instantly. Could they have been there?
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Could they have been part of the crowd pressing that
when the woman with the blood issue touch the hem
of his garment and was made whole.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Did they believe at that moment?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Could they have been personal friends of blind Bartimaeus. That
when Bartimaeus looked them in the.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Eyes, and that's when they believed.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
I don't know, but what we do know is they
were followers of Jesus. This morning I listened to all
four gospel accounts. The story of the first Resurrection Sunday.
The story of the women going to the tomb at
(05:06):
the breaking of dawn can be found in all four
Gospels Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It tells us that
the stone was rolled away, And I want to tell
you the stone was not rolled away to let Jesus out.
It was rolled away to let an unbelieving world in.
(05:31):
And all four gospels gives us a detailed account. Pray
dot com audience, We're going to get right back to
the sermon in just a moment, but I want to
let you know one of the best ways that you
can stand and help support me and awaken to grace

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Friends, We thank you in advance. Now let's get back
to the sermon.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Now you need to understand the first three books of
the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called synoptic Gospels.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (06:48):
John, the Gospel of John was written about thirty years later,
but Matthew, Mark, and Luke were written around the same time.
And what the reason why we call them the synoptic
Gospels is because the word sin s y n similar.
(07:09):
It's where we get our English word synonym. It means
the same, it's the same stories, it's similar, they're they're paralleled.
But optic is where we get our word optical meaning.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Vision site, perspective.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
The reason they're called the synoptic Gospels is because they're
the same stories but seen through different eyes. So someone
who doesn't have faith may read it and go, well,
I see contradictions.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
No, they're not contradictions.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
What they are is that Matthew gives a different perspective
than Luke gives. Mark gives a different perspective than what
John gives. And when you put it all together, we
have a beautiful narrative, a beautiful story of the resurrection
of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
So Luke, oh I love Luke. What a historian Luke was.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Luke not only wrote the Gospel of Luke, but he
wrote the Book of Acts. And Luke gives us these
details that no other gospel gives us. We know thanks
to Luke's writing, we know this story of what happened
on the road to Emaus. And as I said, we're
gonna see ourselves in the same journey.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
You may be here today and you may be someone
who you have.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Put joy on hold in your life. You may be
someone who you only live for mountain top experience to
mountain top experience. You may be someone that becalls of
a certain person, perhaps a certain problem, or maybe some
(09:07):
kind of delay.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
You have put your life on hold.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
You've put joy on hold, and somehow you're saying, if.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
I could just get past this.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Then I'll be happy. Do you know how many people
get stuck there?
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Do you know how.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Many people waste years and decades of their life waiting
for something to change, waiting for a dream to come true,
waiting for something to happen. And they think, if I
could only get to there, then I will be happy
when I get my kids grown. Oh if I just
(09:49):
had a different job, then I would be happy. Oh
if I could ever move from where I live and
have that dream house, then I'll be happy. If I
made more money, I would be happy. If I was
healthier than I would be happy. When I retire, I'll
be happy. And so many people.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Waste their lives.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
In a place of discontentment, in a place where, rather
than living with joy, they live uptight. Rather than living
with significance, they live frustrated. And if you're someone that
you spend the majority of your days living upset, if
(10:39):
you're someone that the smallest things set you off, if
you're someone that lives the majority of your days frustrated
and uptight, Well I invite you to look at these
two men and learn with me this morning.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
We'll begin in verse number thirteen.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
These two men were walking the short distance between Jerusalem,
the big city, to the small village of Emeus. And
this road was called the road to Emaus, and it
was a short seven miles. I say short, as though
I'm in shape, I would not want to walk seven
(11:24):
tenths of a mile, let alone seven.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
So take that into account.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
But these men begin their journey, and the Bible tells us.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
A few things about what they were thinking.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
I'm gonna draw your attention, particularly to verse number seventeen.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
The Bible says they were sad.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Why were they sad? They're sad because Friday has come
and gone.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
And remember what happened on Friday. The Lamb of God, the.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Savior of the world, was taken, accused, given a false trial,
brutally crucified, publicly humiliated, and there the Lord Jesus Christ,
the Savior, breathed his last, nailed to a cross.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
And for the disciples, that's where the story ended.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Saturday had come and gone with no hope. But what
I find the most fascinating about the resurrection account is
that it was the Jewish council, it was the High priest,
it was the Roman government. It was the very ones
(13:01):
that murdered Jesus. It was the enemies of the Lord
Jesus Christ that remembered his words that in three days
he would rise again, And so they sealed the tomb.
They put Roman guards to stand watch. But you know,
(13:24):
when the women went to the tomb, they asked themselves.
According to Marx Gospel, who will roll.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Away the stone for us?
Speaker 2 (13:34):
The enemies of Jesus believed his words. They remembered his words.
His followers didn't. I wonder if the same is true
in my life in yours. I wonder if Satan knows
better the promises of God for you than what you believe.
I wonder if the enemy knows your future and the
(13:56):
goodness that God has for you, the grace that God
God has for you, the plans that God has for you.
And I wonder if he believes them more than we
believe them.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
And so.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
These two men Friday had come, Saturday had come. Now
it's Sunday morning. Now it's resurrection Sunday. Now it's the
Lord's Day.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
But they're not acting like it. They're on the road.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
To Emmaus with sad countenance, and Jesus joins them. Now
the scripture says their eyes were prevented from recognizing Jesus.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
They didn't realize it was the Savior.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
And Jesus joins them on the road to Emmaus, and
Jesus says, what are y'all talking about?
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Way, he didn't say, y'all, but you know where we live.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
That's and the disciples were flabbergasted.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
They said, are you the.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn't know the events of
what happened?
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Why would he say visitor? Because it's passover.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Thousands upon thousands all Jews would have traveled to Jerusalem.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
And they said, were you the only visitor that? I mean,
have you lived underneath the rock? Have you not read
the Jerusalem Post? Well, they didn't say that either, but.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
They said, you don't know the events, and I believe
it's verse nineteen.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Jesus says, what events.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I think when he said that, I think he had
the biggest smile come across his face because Jesus knew what.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
They didn't know.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
And so they began to tell Jesus the story. Our
chief priest and our leaders gave Jesus up to be crucified.
I wonder how many of us God's people today were
all wrapped up in today's events. I wonder how many
(16:21):
of us are just wrapped up in what's not gone
right in life? How many of us are wrapped up
in dreams that just never came true.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
Prayers that seemingly were never answered were wrapped up in it.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Well, they begin to tell Jesus, and it stuns me
that in verse seventeen, when it says they were sad
and Jesus asked them what's going on?
Speaker 3 (16:53):
The Bible says they stood still.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Now, remember they're walking along the road. But when Jesus
didn't know the events, it stunned them. And I picture
it like it just stopped them in their traps, and
they stood still, and they were sad. My precious friend,
this is where some of you are living right now.
(17:19):
You're stuck in life. You're stuck in what didn't work out.
You're stuck in the hopes and the things that were
dashed a long time ago. You wanted your marriage to
work out, but it didn't. You wanted the job to
(17:40):
go through, but it didn't. You wanted those prayers desperately answered,
but they weren't.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
And so here you are stuck standing still. Oh it's
so easy to do.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
And then I'm fascinated and I'm intrigued by verse twenty one.
They tell Jesus who Jesus was. Now, isn't that a
fascinating thing? And I want you to look at verse
twenty one, and I want you to pay attention to this.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
And they said, we had hoped that he would be
the redeemer we had hoped friends. Not only were they sad.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
They had lost their hope. So Jesus says to them,
and I don't think he says this verse twenty five.
I don't think he says it out of condemnation. I
don't think he says it out of anger. I think
he understood their questions. He understood. But listen what he says, Oh,
(18:53):
foolish ones, But that just makes me pause and say,
how foolish I am do not trust God's promises?
Speaker 3 (19:04):
How foolish I can be?
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Listen, say, man, if you're with me right now, how
foolish I can be to trust that God has saved
my soul and will bring me into eternity.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
But I can't trust God with right.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Now the present day. How foolish, How foolish to believe
that God has saved me but God won't help me.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
That God has redeemed me, but he can't work out
the details of my life. How foolish.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
And he goes, oh foolish ones, And you who are
slow in the heart to believe. I don't think he
said that in condemnation at all. And then the scriptures says, now,
think about this, from Moses to the Prophets, Jesus interpreted
(19:57):
the things concerning himself, and all the while, all the while,
they are talking to Jesus, and they don't recognize it.
You know what I wonder today, my friends, is do
you recognize the presence of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
That's with you right now?
Speaker 2 (20:20):
You may be going through a difficulty, but can you
recognize that Jesus is with you. You may have went
through significant hurt in the past, but do you know
Jesus was with you in that hurt. For the majority
of us, we're not recognizing the presence of God in
(20:41):
our life.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
And so what we.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Do is we try to live from mountain top to
mountain top. We try to we try to get through it,
just like the disciples try to just get from Jerusalem to.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Mayas and all along the way.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Jesus is with us, and we don't recognize it. It
amazes me that they told Jesus the entire gospel account.
They told Jesus of the crucifixion, They told Jesus about
the women who went to the tomb and the.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Stone was rolled away.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
They told Jesus about the other disciples running to the tomb.
The Gospel of John tells us it was John and Peter,
and John outran Peter, and.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Yet they didn't believe.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
They knew the story, but they didn't believe. And rather
than going down the road with joy.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
They're going with sadness.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Rather than being filled with hope, they've lost all hope.
Is that you today? You and I know the same story.
You and I know that Jesus is not in a tomb.
We know that he's raised from the dead. We know
that he's good, we know that he's sovereign. But do
(22:18):
you live like it? Or are you sad today? Are
you living life just trying to.
Speaker 3 (22:27):
Get to the next stage?
Speaker 2 (22:32):
And what if one day you look back and you've
wasted so many years worrying, You've wasted so many years bitter,
You've wasted so many years in unforgiveness, You've wasted so
many years in resentment, and God has so much better
(22:56):
for you. See, it's not the gospel that explains the resurrection.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
What's the gospel?
Speaker 2 (23:04):
It's good news, It's not the gospel that explains the resurrection.
It's the resurrection that explains the gospel.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
Do you live as.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Though Christ has risen in your heart? If you will
begin to live that way, you'll begin to live out
the good news of the Gospel. And I'll tell you
can experience good news and stay sad. Amen, hallelujah.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
And so.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
They're on the road, and Jesus begins to open up
the scriptures to them, and from Moses through all the prophets,
he interprets for them and teaches them of everything concerning himself.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
What a Bible study that must have been.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
If you're someone that you kind of scratch your head
with the Bible and you say, well, I have a
hard time reading it. I have a difficult time getting it.
Let me tell you a key principle to understanding the Bible.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Look for Jesus on every.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Page, because he is in every page.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Amen.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
So then they reach I mayas they've gone, they're seven miles.
The day is far spent, the Bible says, and Jesus
acted as always going to go on. Well, I tell you,
Jesus really had a beautiful resurrection Sunday. I mean his
encounter with Mary Magdalene and his encounter with all the disciples,
(24:44):
and now his encounter with these two on the road
to I'm telling you, Jesus had a wonderful day. And
Jesus acts like he's going to go on to the
next town, and Luke tells they strongly urged him stay
with us, lodge with us.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
We don't want you to leave.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Jesus agreed, and they go to dinner that night, and
according to verse thirty, Jesus takes the bread.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Boy, it sounds just like the upper room.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Jesus takes the bread and he blesses it and he
breaks it. And when that happened, you know what happened
to these two disciples. Their eyes were opened and they
recognized Jesus. Do you know what I'm praying for each
(25:45):
of you this morning, is that, maybe for the first
time in your life, or maybe for the first time
in many years, your eyes will come open and you'll
recognize Jesus.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
And you say, Chad, you don't know what I've went through.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
No, I don't, but I know Jesus never left you.
You say, Chad, you don't know the dreams that were shattered.
I don't, but I know Jesus walked.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
With you through it all.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
You say, Chad, you don't know how lonely I have felt.
But yet Jesus has been there every single step. The
problem is that you've not seen it, you've not recognized it.
But here you are in God's house today, and I'll
tell you, God wants to open your eyes, not to
(26:38):
condemn you, not to condemn you, but to welcome you
into faith.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Amen.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
And when their eyes were opened, now the most amazing
thing happened.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
Jesus who is resurrected.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
I mean Jesus who nothing you could hold him down,
and what happens he vanishes. I bet they had to
pick their mouths up off the floor and they looked
at one another Verse thirty two, and they said, did
(27:18):
our hearts not burn within.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Us as we walked? If you're here today and you're
listening and.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
You say I'm missing something, you're missing recognizing Jesus, and you.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Say, Chad, what do I do? Well?
Speaker 2 (27:42):
I want to invite you today to do something that
perhaps you've never done, where you haven't done in a
mighty long time.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
This is what I'm gonna invite you to do.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
I'm gonna invite you to step in to God's love today, say.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Chad, my life has been filled with disappointment.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
Well, you can step into God's love today, Chad, my
life has been filled with loss. You can step into
God's love today. Chad, I've been abandoned, I've been forgotten.
But you can step in to God's love today. Do
you know how I know that is because I know
(28:24):
Jesus has never left you. And everything you've walked through,
and everything you've encountered and everything you've faced, Jesus has
been there every single step. Now, why don't this resurrection Sunday,
(28:44):
Why don't you take a step toward Jesus and.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
You know what will happen.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
As you do that, your eyes will come open and
you'll begin to sense God in your life.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
You'll be able to sense his help. You'll be able
to receive his strength.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
You'll have his grace, you'll have his encouragement, you'll know
his comfort, you'll hear his voice. Oh, I'm telling you,
God has more for you than you could ever dream.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Let's bow our heads today.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
Do you recognize the presence of Jesus? Do you sense
it here this morning? He's here and He's ready to
help you He's ready to help you. You know, the
Bible says that God is near to the broken hearted.
Speaker 3 (29:38):
And a contrite spirit. He'll not despise. Jesus said, those
who come to me, I will for no reason turn
them away.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
So you think you've done too much, You think you've
done too much wrong, you think you've been too immral,
you think you've you've done others so wrong. Jesus wouldn't
accept me. No, no, he said, I will for no reason.
Come up with your best reason, and it doesn't listen.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Jesus said, no reason will I turn you away? Why?
Because his grace is greater and today, If.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
It's something like addiction that's been keeping you from Jesus,
If it's something like doubt and skepticism that's kept you
from Jesus, if it's hurt, and somewhere along the way
(30:44):
you've become angry at God because he didn't do.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Things or allow things or work out things.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
And somewhere along the way you've become resentful toward God.
Perhaps it's pride today that's kept you from Jesus, or
maybe it's.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Just the busyness of life.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
And you're just trying to get from this stage to
that stage, from this promotion to that promotion, from.
Speaker 3 (31:19):
This success to that success.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
No matter what it is, don't let anything keep you from.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
