Speaker 1 (00:11):
What's up, y'all is Sugarl Dray and the Call and
lex P from Poor Minds, And we're here with a
funny and talented DC from eighty five South and we're
here at Backwoods backstage and we're sitting here with the
talented cause from Dreamville Records.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
What's up?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Joke here shouted Okay, I have to know we are
on your stopping grounds right now because you are a
Dreamville artist.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
We're at Dreamville Fest. How does that feel being.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
An artist signed to J Cole and being at the festival?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
It's amazing.

Speaker 5 (00:58):
Every year is this same thing? A bunch of love
family drink of your family. I've been, you know, with
them for the past like ten years, and then this
ship every year. You feel me it's supposed to be
the last one. I've seeing rooms on the internet that
it ain't gonna be the last one. I don't know
what's true or.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Not, you feel I be minding my business. I just
looked on Twitter.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
Nah, but yeah, no, it's amazing. It's always loved it.
It's a good vibe, ain't no. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Dope? So how did your journey start?

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Like?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
How did you get around Cole like, how did you
get on the label?

Speaker 5 (01:29):
Shit, I just dropped this song at like twenty fourteen
from LA and at that time my boy just had
like a plug on the block. It's like the blog
area and shit, you feel me? And that shit was
kind of going crazy on the blog. My homie that
went to uh, my old manager Matt McNeil. He went
to school with Cole in college and showed him the song,
and then Cole went it to meet being shipped and
from there his history you know what I'm saying, played

(01:50):
on the rest of the shit I had and then yeah,
he was like, come on, fucking with me, fucking with me,
go on slide.

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Do you feel pressure being signed to J Cole being like, yeah,
he's such a big artists, he's still dropping music. Do
you feel like you have to live up to that?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Nah? Not at all.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
Nah.

Speaker 5 (02:06):
I think it is because we like the way he
like we operate this like family, so it's like you
don't feel like that, and like I'm a natural competitor,
so like of course, like I'm like, you know, when
I get in there, I'm trying to take everybody head
off the ship from him and everybody, so it is
what it is, but I don't feel no pressure. I
wouldn't say's pressure, maybe something else, but I want to
say it's pressure off.

Speaker 6 (02:26):
Had there ever been a time in the studio and
he pulled you to the side like, look, bro, you
went harder than me.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
You know what?

Speaker 5 (02:33):
He ain't said it, but then records ain't came out,
so I assume.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Assude a.

Speaker 6 (02:42):
Bar up.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
I assumed I had the better verse.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
Ain't.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Oh he putting you should wrap it tomorrow to do it.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
I'm like this, who knows? Nah, But I mean this
been times when I was so ass too. What niggas
it took me off it and tell me so I was,
you know it happened, it'd be like.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
That, you know.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
So, since we're here at the Dreamville Festival, and obviously
you've been to a lot of them, could you tell
us about what was your most memorable experience?

Speaker 2 (03:18):
Damn you know what, it ain't really been.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
It's probably gonna be the most memorable because in the past,
like four years, I used to get lit a lot
of Actually, my first time being sober, I'm like ten
months so and.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Two months sober right now?

Speaker 5 (03:31):
Okay, so probably yeah, yeah, yeah, ship I don't blame her,
but nah, so this probably.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Be the most memorable for sure.

Speaker 5 (03:43):
Other times it was a good time though, you feel me,
But I don't know nothing in detail.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I was like, really get into experience.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Yeah yeah, like I'm experiencing it for real real this
time and getting to soak it in so.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
I feel it.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
Yeah yeah yeah, but nah, I mean ship crowds is
always great.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I don't know. On the spot, I'm like bad with that.
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
The rehab nothing anyway. You know, we gotta get to
so okay, So let me ask you this being at
you know, you been signed to Dreamville for a while.
You know, we all know how to carry ourselves and
see people who are of higher you know, celebrity. But

(04:26):
what was a moment where you met somebody and you
were like, oh my god, like I can't believe I'm
in the studio with this person. This is crazy and
it was like a full circle moment for.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
You ship, you know. I think maybe I think when
I first got in with Cole, I think because I
was a.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Good fan of clothes, so I think that was like
the first time and I wasn't around no industry ship
in my life like from that world. So I think
that was me meeting Cole and Bennings through him was
like my mind blowing. And yeah, I don't think I
felt it like that since then maybe Kendrick. I was
in there with Kendrick one song that was another I'm
from l A too, so I'm biased that, you know
what I'm saying. So I think that was another time

(05:04):
where I was like, damn, that's crazy.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
You feel me, so it's fair to say you was
team Kendrick.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Nah, No, I'm a team. I'm dream Ville to the core.
You feel me, but I'm team hip hop like I love,
I love the sports.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
You feel me? I said, yeah, yeah, my business very well,
you know what I'm saying. Oh yeah, nah, is that
anybody like you want to work with?

Speaker 5 (05:31):
Yeah? Yeah for sure. Uh hear what I just say
about that top of it. Every time somebody asked me
and I'm gonna lead, I'm gonna leave, like who, I
still smoke.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I still gout out the back woods, but I still smoke.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
Yeah, but yeah, I don't believe here and like, damn,
I should have said this, but ship, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (05:52):
That's fair walk like damn, so hell yeah, so nice
all the lessend.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
Shit, I ain't choosing Hell yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Okay, So what are your like next goals, like what
you got coming up or what is something that you're
working on this year that you are definitely trying to
accomplish and finish.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
Man, I'm trying to Like, for a minute, I couldn't
drop because of some ship with Interscope or whatever.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
So I finally got free this year.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
I'm still with Dreamville clearly, but now I'm looking for
a new home and uh as far as it's like
this stro and ship like that, but I got a
bunch of projects in a stash ready to go, probably
like three fold them things, to be honest with you,
So I was ready to release. I just dropped like
three just freestyles back to back, one a week.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (06:36):
So I'm just trying to get my feedback. We get
the ball back roll and then get back in this
year for real, for real. So yeah, I'm gonna drop
them projects at least two, two to three this year.
Hopefully you feel me, and uh just get the ball
back roll. You feel me?

Speaker 2 (06:47):
Wait you can't wait? Sel you go crazy? Hell yeah, yeah,
we're trying.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Can you tell us about maybe an artist that year
working with or that you worked with on the song
coming up that might be coming.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Out, to be honest, a lot of I'm already again forget.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Now.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
I mean to be honest, the new Ship has been
a lot of me, and I haven't reached out to
them like or thought about what features I would want
on them songs in so it's just all me and
just because I've been locked in on my go with
myself and ship and just knocking my part out and
then I'm gonna get to that after so I still
got to work on that part.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
But my mom, I think, okay, cool, We'll tell you.
We'll tell everybody where I can find you.

Speaker 5 (07:26):
