Speaker 1 (00:08):
You are now in the backcourt a Brooklyn Nets podcast
presented by Ticketmaster. I am your host, Lucas Kaplan of
Nets Daily, Nets Film Focus, and I had to bring
on one of my favorite draft writers, draft talkers, draft thinkers.
I'm Ed Jama, formerly of the Draft podcast, the Draft Council.
We write together at the Swish Theory and he just

(00:32):
knows a lot about pretty much anything draft related.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
So I'm ed, how are we doing?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Good man? Excited?

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Really, it was a fun class, a lot of good players.
This feels nice to wrap a bow on it, though
you always kind of get a little bit of burnout
towards the end, and I'm excited to kind of look
towards future Scott another great class that y'all will probably
be heavily involved.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
In in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yep, the Nets have their own draft pick in twenty
twenty six, but in twenty twenty five they had an
NBA record five first round draft picks. The fifth one
was acquired in a trade leading up to draft Day
where the Nets took on Terrence Man and the number
twenty two pick, so that gave them number eight, number nineteen,

(01:14):
twenty two, twenty six and twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Seven and they made all of them.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
And Ahmed knows more than me, to be honest, about
all the five guys they drafted. Watching them throughout the cycle,
you know, I dived in a little bit on them,
and so we kind of just hoped to present one
of the most stacked by quantity draft classes in NBA history.
And we got to start with Yaegor Demon, who the
Nets picked at number eight out of Russia, played some

(01:42):
pro ball at Real Madrid, then a freshman season at BYU.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Very quickly, what is the cell on yeg Or Demon?

Speaker 4 (01:51):
I mean, point forward, everyone's looking for, you know, big
wing sized players that can handle the ball, make plays,
kind of be facilitators on the court and then obviously
you don't lose a lot defensively with their size and
like ability to you know, rebound.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
So yeah, ideally Yagora can.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
Play you know, the one down to the three.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
Eventually, and it seems like and we'll get into this
more as we talk about the Nets draft night as
a whole, but the thought is, if you're that tall
and you can read the floor and you have you know,
high feel for the game, you will find a way
to contribute in some facet.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Now the shot needs to come along.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
It looks, you know, he doesn't look like a twenty
seven percent three point shooter, which is what he shot
at BYU. But it was a lot of long pull
up threes, a lot of off the catch. You know,
he shot nine threes per one hundred possessions, so the
volume was there. What do you think in general kind
of about Jaeger's three point shooting and your faith in

(02:57):
him to you know, get him up and convert hi
out a high rate in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up with the mechanics
or like the kind of aesthetics of the shot, because
I've always been curious as to why he shot the
percentages or at the efficiency that he has, dating back
to even his last year at Real Madrid with the
U eighteen team, he was about roughly the same from
the free throw line high sixties, be shot seventeen percent
from three, and then obviously under thirty percent at BYU.

(03:23):
These are high degree of difficulty attempts. Yeah, and it's
not like he's just sitting in the corner and you
know breaking, you know, easy catching shoots like these are
pretty like difficult shots but it doesn't look broken. I
feel like eventually, and it could also be a strength
thing with something I noted with Yego where I was
like pretty shocked in like the physical true he's still
like a skinny guy. With the physical transformation he made

(03:45):
from Madrid to Byu. That could have been another thing where,
you know, and at Madrid, the youth guys, they don't
shoot from a high school three point line. They're shooting
from a feba line.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
So he might have not just had the strength at
that point to get him up. But I'm more optimistic
in Diego shooting eventually.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Yeah, I think I am too. And you know, I
know for a fact that nets are you know. Sean
Mark's general manager, had a press conference on Zoom after
the first round and talked about how impressed he was
in the workouts with Yegor made sixteen straight threes and
a clip that I think surfaced, and he just talked
about the general improvements that Yegor has already made. He

(04:24):
feels from the middle of the season to June. And
I think when you have faith in the shot, as Brooklyn,
you know must and by the way, as an aside,
everything you hear about Yegor is just incredibly hard worker,
will be in the gym all the time, a guy
you want in the locker room. So I think that
obviously imbews a little bit of faith in any team

(04:44):
that drafts him.

Speaker 4 (04:45):
Candidly, man, I didn't think he was going to play
like a significant We're not a significant role.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
I didn't think he was going to be given as.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
Effective as he was his first year at BYU because
the tape Madrider, just like the numbers and the tape,
I thought were just a little underwhelming. So even the
leap he made for his last year of Madrid to
playing in one of the toughest conferences, playing a really
high usage role in one of the.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Conference in the country, I mean you mentioned this to me.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Bright BYU has a top to what tent offensive rating
in the top five offensive rating in the country last year.
They are I think seven and a half points better
per one hundred with Yegor on the court in terms
of their offense, and he is by far the highest
usage guy at one of the best offensive teams in
one of the toughest, most athletic conferences in the country.

(05:31):
And so he had some you know, turnover problems ended
up averaging three turnovers over five assists.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
But the level, why.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
Do you think he was able to carry such a
heavy load for such a great offense. And this is
where I'm sure we're going to talk about really the cell.
He's a six to eight dude that can pass the
rock at a really high level.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, I want to go ahead and preface this. I'm
not making one to one comparison when I'm saying this.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
It's just kind of like the functionally what I see.
I'm not saying he's gonna be a fraction as good
as this guy. But I think when you watch someone
like Tyre's Haliburn on this player this playoff run with
the Pacers, he's surrounded by so many like play finishers,
I think it's it elevates those guys when they know
I'm getting a steady diet of shots, like I don't
have to worry about my offense coming to me and

(06:19):
across the board. With these players at b YU this
past season, the massive leaps inefficiency because Yegar was just
operating the offense, so just someone such a timely fashion.
I think like it, I mean fairly, I mean these
are NBA sets. I think these are like pretty like
I don't know, complex balish green actions and he's making
these reads and there were bumps in the road, like

(06:39):
like you said, I think we talked about the Houston
game being one where that's.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Just that's just tough. That's that's just a tough situation
to put any eighteen year old in.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
But yeah, he just how consistently and just the how
such like the margin he was reading the defenses, and
guys could operate so quickly off the catch, like they
had the space to shoot the threes that could attack
like downhill, Like he just he simplified like the decision
making burden he was able to carry, just simplify the

(07:09):
game for all his teammates.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Which I mean he he's going to come in with
the by far, I think the highest understanding of sort
of the pick and roll like geometry of the floor
of any NBA draft d Like his assists are right,
We're running a high pick and roll this way, and
then there's an action like maybe a pin down or
something on the weak side. I'm coming off that and

(07:33):
I'm seeing that, and I'm firing lasers across the court
both hands, any kind of angle. You know, we talked
about him being six' Eight and it's an.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Excuse to.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Repeat my favorite quote of the night of from draft
night From, yegory which is what he said to us
when we asked him about his. Passing he, said just
a great. Quote the passing is Something i've always been.
Doing and this is WHY i believe in the game
about basketball as a creative.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Place it's like an, art, Right AND i want to play.

Speaker 1 (08:04):
BEAUTIFUL i want to play, PRETTY i want to play,
Efficient and for, me there's never a sacrifice of myself
for the team something like.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
This it's just about making the right.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
Decision is that a quote that you feel like Exemplifies yegor's?

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Game?

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Absolutely, Man And i've listened to him, OBVIOUSLY i saw
your quote AND i thought that was. INCREDIBLE i remember
listening to him on one of The ringer podcasts talking.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
To j Com.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
Man he just does and, THIS i mean obviously The
nets believe in, this and that probably like compelled them
to draft him.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
A high as they.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Did he just seems to have like a different level
of maturity and on an advanced level of thinking of
basketball and just don't know his approach to the GAME
i think is like pretty like pretty. Fascinating so, YEAH
i think that kind of transler manifests on the court in.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Like a pretty real.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
Way so THAT i think is what we're going to
get out Of, Yegort. Right he is going to shoot
a lot of threes Under Jordi. Fernandez, like if there's
one coach in THE nba that we trust to bump
up somebody's three points, volume It's. Jordie he's going to
hit some tough. Threes he's going to take a lot
of them his rookie. Year he's going to make you,
know four or five like wow passes out of pick

(09:10):
and roll especially and hopefully you, know as a wing
type of, player maybe off the, ball you, know, catch,
drive a close, out hit a you know pass that
keeps offense. Moving and he's going to you, know get
stronger and survive on. Defense AND i think that'll be
what to expect from his rookie. Year and there will be,
flashes you know With diegor as just a six to

(09:32):
nine ball handler who can you, know hopefully shoot the
rock and Then nets are confident in that and then
moving on to their number nineteen, pick it's a not
you know the same very similar, prospect but it is
ANOTHER i think guy where passing is the. Cell what
can you tell us About frenchman nineteen year Old Nolan
trejore another guy.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
That's just his basketball education has kind of been defined
and predicated on handling a lot of pick and. Roll
just a lot of pick and roll reps have been
in his like play.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
DIET i mean he. IS i was looking at it.
Today he was in the ninety seventh.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
Percentile and not just his the pro L, nb like
The French, league in.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
The entirety Of. Europe in pick and roll volume for.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
He, RAN i think it was fifteen pick and rolls
like including passes per. Game and for like a frame of,
Reference Jalen brunson playing you, know eight minutes more game
in NBA's forty, Eight europe's forty he ran seventeen pick
and rolls per game pick and plus passes. Game So
nolan was just operating a ton of ball. SCREENS i
think got better towards the. Season very different style To,

(10:37):
Yegor Like nolan prefers to put pressure on the. Rim
he's a really dynamic downhill. Athlete like pretty ridiculous first,
initially like even if it's it makes up for not
maybe having the tightest or most creative.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Handle BUT i AM i CANDIDLY i came in a
little bit.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
Lower it was kind of a securitist route with my
like a thinking With, NOLAN i came in a decent
bit lower than. Consensus when he was projected like about
this time last year to be a top five.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Pick he just came off.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Killing these youth Europe Adidas Next generation, tournament which is
like the Best european teams Like, Madrid.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Paris that kind of.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
Thing he just killed that, tournament played a game Against
Casparas yakachonas and had forty six, Points like just looked
like head and shoulders the best guy on the. Court
AND i was still a little. Skeptical but towards the
end of the, year MAN i thought he made like
some pretty significant, improvements finished really well at the.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
RIM i think his finishing was, like even.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Though he's not finishing above the rim often he's finishing.
Around this is gonna this isn't gonna sound crazy BY nba,
standards but with how constricted the court is In france
and how kind of a deliberate pace they, play it
was like fifty four percent at the, rim which is
like pretty. Wild like for, example the number one pick last,
Year Zachary risichet was just under fifty percent at the
rim in the half court.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
Block kulabali another guy.

Speaker 1 (11:53):
Just under fifty percent at the rim and too much,
taller much, longer OR i should say much. TALLER i
Mean Trey ore is, right what measured six,' four six'
ten wingspan something like that's really big.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
For a POINT guard and i and finish much better on,
much more volume much more. Self Created volume so i'm
interesting to see how that room pressure kind of PARLAYS to.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
An, nba game.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah it's it's it's an interesting dynamic With him And
yegor because yegor like will have to shoot to help. Him,
get down hell he's not, like the, birstiest you know
he's not really going to excel, getting by people at,
least at, first you know especially without. A BALL screen,
but i expect and you can tell me if, THIS
is Fair I expect nolan treori to be in THE

(12:35):
paint and i expect him to have opportunities to finish,
at the rim even in.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
His rookie, year you know whether it's.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Off dribble Handoffs You know jody fernandez's offense last year
number ONE in the nba, in ball screens if we
lump dribble, handoffs INTO that And i think treori the handle.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Really sticks out the.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
Passing like, on the move like he can be going
full speed and. Make a, pass and, again you know
the shot is gonna is what's gonna need to come
under thirty percent from three near seventy percent from the.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Free THROW line but.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
I believe he shot pretty well on catch and shoot,
Threes this season so where do you feel about the?

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Shot for him.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
That's what makes it so interesting to me because he
didn't have a lot of volume because he's playing on the,
ball so much but he was really solid on catch
shoots and.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Gets him up he's not.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Scared to shoot that's what's so interesting about these guys
coming from like. A pro circuit he said they've been
more enabled to shoot at. A YOUNGER age so i
don't think the volume is going to be necessarily An.
Issue FOR nolan and, i Mean theoretically if yeagle was
on the ball and he's playing next to him in,
the back Court like if yeager was able to draw
like a little bit, of Ball pressure and nolan should

(13:50):
be able, to like hit catch and shoot threes at
more effective cliff than probably his numbers would convey.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
That, he can yeah, And You know sean marks again
to touch on that press are again talked about. Them playing,
TOGETHER you know i asked, him straight up the, first two,
guys you know ostensibly point guards or at least guys
that are going to handle the. Ball A lot but
i think you see, this BELIEF then and i think
it was born OUT in the nba playoffs that when
you stack guys, that can pass know, how to play they'll.

(14:19):
Figure it out and, SO he said i think we'd
love to say we'd love to see both of them play. Together,
for sure, obviously you know we always look at it
as a little bit.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Of best player available at.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
That particular time, but you know we've got to be
very careful penciling a player into being a certain position
or a certain role when they're. Nineteen years old the
upside of all these young men is. Intriguing for us,
And you know i'm not saying AT like an nba championship,
level right Now but Diego or and, nolan, next year
like do you think they'll probably be able to. FIGURE

(14:52):
it out. I.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
THINK so yeah i think they may have issues.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
Scoring the ball the box scour may may look, ugly
AT points but i think as well as, like DECISION
making and i don't think they're going to look totally
out of their ELEMENT on.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
An, nba court no especially not with as you kind
of hinted At With the french, league finishing, numbers the.
SPACING the, Sets I mean KEVIN young at byu designed
a fairly pro Style offense for yeger WITH a, lot.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
I mean he CAME.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
From the nba he did not, pull any punches he
didn't withhold and any kind of even simplify The.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Offense, for yegor yeah that was THAT was. An nba
offense he was running an, age RAN it, like i.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
SAID a, competent i mean they were top five and
for a long stretch, of the season but like they
really hit their stride once they got, into conference play which.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Is fairly unique they were number one offense in the
country for like a lot.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Of, the year yeah and again you can't Divorce that
from yegor's insane the kind of burden. That he carried
and they are going to. Pass the rock they're going
to pass it in. THE half court i think you
can you Know that the nets are going to play
with pace getting the ball from. Side to side they
are going to push the ball up the floor no
matter who's.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
On the Court jaeger, and nolan both But more so
yeger with the height can. Throw outlet passes.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
Hey, that fans dunks dimes and no looks ARE, great
on tv but nothing compares to. Catching them irl and
that starts. With Buying, tickets a ticketmaster the official ticket
Marketplace of the NETS. In the nba ticketmaster get you
to the game so you can catch every, highlight in
person from Seeing your favorite nets stars up close to
hearing the squeak of the sneakers. On the hardwood put

(16:31):
that jersey collection to use and get. Tickets a ticketmaster
there's no better brag than saying you. Saw it live.
See your courtside brooklyn.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
And one of the guys they'll be throwing these, outlet
passes too and hopefully dunking on somebody's head on. The
Fast break is brooklyn's number twenty two pick they Acquired
In that, Terrence Man, trade drake powell and he.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Is sort of, the third guy a.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Very different player i'm almost sort of the OUTLIER in this,
nets draft class but a Guy who Like, jegor and
nolan maybe their their star was a little bit.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Brighter before the season in.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
The draft, world you know maybe if we did this draft,
a year ago all three guys would, have gone higher
so you Could say the nets really indexed guys. With
A pedigree drake powell played one and DONE. Season at
unc NOT a great unc team by their. Historically good
standards what can you tell us about? ATHLETE defender, hopeful i,

(17:31):
think you know Three Point.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Shooter drake Powell yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Something maybe Maybe i'm what i'm most excited to See
About the brooklyn. Nets next year the Handful of times
i'm able To tune In Nolan. And drake powell i'm
not Sure how often, jordi does it like as guys
pick up, the ball early like, in the backwork but oh.
That's their thing those two are going to be, Monsters
at it like they're gonna they're gonna be incredible guarding
at the.

Speaker 3 (17:53):
POINT of, attacking i mean as much as you'd expect.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
From a, rookie you know both are fairly freel like,
skinning your guys but they've moved. Ladder really well, drake the,
last the second the second and third time they Matched
up with DUKE in the acc tournament and the second,
Regular season matchup drake was Able to Or they put
drake on konk nipple and he, gave him problems. LIKE
serious problems i think con had five five TURNOVERS in the,

(18:16):
acc tournament game a lot of Them. Forced by drake
he's just REALLY miscast. THAT unc, Team i mean drake
is six to six and he was, playing the four something.
HE'D never done i think their tallest guy on the
team was. SIX to seven i think it was just
kind of and It was something i'd seen, him, MENTION
impressers like i JUST don't think i really got.

Speaker 3 (18:36):
To show MY.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Game at unc that wasn't something IN an area i was.
COMFORTABLE playing in i don't think my talents were. Best
utilized there, AND that's, why i mean obviously he left
and he didn't feel like that was a place that
he could really develop, and you know show the best.
Of his abilities but coming out, of high school crazy athlete,
like you, mentioned crazy athlete underratedly Good like he drake

(18:59):
is about eighty percent from the LINE. COMING into unc
i think if you have like all his, free throw
times he's probably just a little hair under eighty percent
and shot A little under i, want to say like
thirty eight or thirty nine percent this past year.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Percent, From three.

Speaker 4 (19:13):
Yeah i'm not worried about him shooting. Really at all
great pull up. MECHANICS as well i think he's one
Of the ones i'm definitely the most interested to see develop,
because he's so, like you said vast departure from The
Other four draft.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
Pics.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
Skill sets yeah so he had one of the lowest
usage rates across all of.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
High major basketball and you are kind of mirroring some
Of what mister.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Marks said after the first round, of the draft and,
THAT he said I loved watching drake going back. To
high school the, lengthy athletic ability, AND you know i
don't think he got an opportunity to show everything at.
The college level so when he was in here, for
his workouts you do a lot of the testing, and
so forth you see, him up close and you figure
out what a class act and a great young.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
Man he is but also you.

Speaker 1 (19:59):
KNOW the talent i think that kind of goes into
exactly what the Cell is with powell in that he
didn't really get to show everything HE.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Had, at unc obviously the big, challenge for him.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
As it is for, many young players is GOING to
be i think the decision making, off the catch keeping,
the offense, moving you, know point five making a decision
in point, five second Mentality Something that sean mark's referenced
directly in. Another public comment but when he sort of
makes the decision to shoot to attack the rim and

(20:33):
again on defense to pick up full Court and the
nets were the most aggressive defensive team in the league
last year by percentage, of you know ball screens.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
That they blitzed on.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
That they trapped you're going to notice him, On THE
court and i think that that's not a very common
thing to say about a guy who had like a thirteen.
Percent usage rate like he will step on the court
and make an impact in one way or another in. His,
rookie year now some of them, might be turnovers maybe
not like the best decisions, all the, time but like

(21:05):
this is, a guy that based on, what you're saying
Based on, what i've seen is gonna make himself felt
just because of the athletic ABILITY on.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
An, Nba court yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
I'd be surprised if he didn't leave the team In
Like sports center top. TEN contender, plays i mean guys
are like a few jaw, dropping athletic PLAYS and, like
i said like as far, as him guarding, guarding the
ball playing the, POINT of attack i think that's gonna
be his. Strength early on the off ball defense is
gonna take a little. Bit of time he's DEFINITELY he
just i mean with, any young player especially with the

(21:35):
Athletic margins the drakes used to operating under always being
the most athletic guy in the court and being that
being something he, could rely on maybe not the most
keyed in. At, all times defensively so That's definitely something
i'm gonna. Wait to, SEE but offensively i think that
it's with how how many ball handlers and how many
like capable vegetable passers. THE team has i think he's
gonna like eat OFF cuts and i think a lot

(21:57):
of like opportunistic kind of. Scoring should be Like that's
what drake's offense is. Gonna look, like, you're one hey
catching huld be an opportunist to cutter like get, out
IN transition and i can't see why he can't, fill
that role like very capable.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
In your one forty three inch vertical leap which cleared
the REST of the nba twenty, twenty five draftees he
Is going, to my prediction my only solid Prediction for,
this net season is that he's gonna put somebody on
a poster off of a back door Cut And then
iron eagle Will recite a drake lyric.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
Of his choosing i'm pretty sure.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Of that happening and one of the guys that you
know might hit him on one of those backdoor cuts
is yet another live dribble passer that you kind of.
Just alluded to with the number, twenty Six Pick the
Brooklyn Nets, Selected ben sarah israeli point Guard playing For,
razzio farm ulm Which is the german team that lost

(22:55):
in game five of a five game series in The.
Finals of bundesliga played on the Same Team. As noah's
songa and what can you Tell Us? About ben Saraf
is It? SARAH or, SARAH i was.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
I was just about to congratulate you, on, THOSE pronunciations
man i. Have no idea it, SOUNDED like you, i
don't know know a lot more of how.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
These, ARE said well I.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
THINK it's sarah I. Think.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
It's sarah sarah he was not on the, at THE
draft so i didn't get to ask him. This in
person he obviously had a, Game to play but what
can you tell us about, this point guard this.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
LEFTY point guard i think.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
OF all these uh all, the foreign players like the
three guys that you drafted that had played in, the International,
Circuit diego Or, NOLAN and Sarah i think ben. Had
the best like if if you were to pull, any
like sample like any like stretch Of, games played ben
they All know, not Yegor didn't But nolan and sarah
both played IN the euro ua team tournament this Past.

(23:50):
Year with kasparasones, no was saying like you'd mentioned a
lot of guys that have been drafted in this class
and will be drafted, in Next class AND saraf was i,
WANT to say i, Want, to say henschel there's a
single also, played really well but was at least the
a top two PLAYER in the uh in the event by.
A comfortable, margin i mean he was like fairly dominant
against a, lot.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Of guys A lot, of nba talent AND he's just.

Speaker 4 (24:12):
I think a little bit more of a SCORING punch
Like i think yegor was like a pure like a tried.

Speaker 3 (24:15):
And true facilitator he's always going to be looked to play.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
Make For, others BUT sarah if i think balance is
the scoring in the passing a little bit better at
this stage. Of HIS career something i. Was surprised by
he measured like in without.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Shoes sixty six or six. SEVEN and shoes i thought
he was a. Little, bit shorter, that's you know.

Speaker 4 (24:30):
A PLEASANT surprise and i think having that the ball
handling that he does as like a legit wing sized player.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
IS pretty rare i pretty pretty.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
SHOCKED by, it i mean he really does have a ball,
in the string uh. Running THE point and i think
he's a little better better touch than the other two
the three, previously mentioned.

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Guys got y'all had?

Speaker 4 (24:56):
So, many picks yeah already sorry, To play, together but
yeah he has a little bit better touch, than those
guys but isn't necessarily he's more of like a, pull
up shooter not the best, off THE catch and i
think he probably will be as far as just like,
BOX score efficiency i think. He'd probably be he'll fare
the best out of the group of the four guys we've.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
MENTIONED so far, i totally yeah BECAUSE the the i
agree because his you weren't lying about him having the ball,
ON the string i mean the handle from him at,
like you know six six barefoot sixty seven shoes. Is
really impressive he might not be like the birstiest athlete
to go, along with that but like he's gonna be

(25:39):
able to, navigate tight spaces and he seemed to have
much more of, as you said kind of the scoring
punch from floaters, off the glass the little, intermediate scoring,
range you know handling and pick and roll if a,
guy goes, over you know keeping him, on his back
hitting a float or.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Stuff like, that what like what do you.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Think IS his most i guess the biggest challenge, he's
gonna face like the other guys will in terms of
consistently playmaking at a high LEVEL, in the nba like
consistently getting to the right decisions, and you know creating
good offense, like you mentioned.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Maybe not the birstiest guy is not the most effective finisher.
At the rim he's just. Not overly athletic but again
a common theme with all the guys we've, mentioned so far.
EXTREMELY extremely young i think he Turned, nineteen In may
if I'm not Mistaken, may or april just like a handful,
of months ago and he's just gonna if he doesn't

(26:42):
win off like the he doesn't create the advantage initially off,
THE ball screen i think he's gonna. Have struggle separating
And he's, not HE'S tall but i don't think he
necessarily has the mass or the weight as, most you
know teenagers don't to kind of keep guys, on his
back keep guys.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
On his shoulder and kind of like be. More DELIBERATE
downhills so i think that could be a little.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
Tough to start and THEN defensively is i think also probably,
THE most, limited i mean as being the least athletic,
of these guys is probably gonna be most limited.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
This, next season yeah that seems to me like KIND
of what i, saw as well but generally going to
be in, THE right, spots i think generally going. TO understand,
coverages I mean the nets drafted a lot of guys
that really like to, think the game and then at
number twenty seven they drafted one of the, MORE fun

(27:30):
unique i think we can say players in This Class
in Danny wolf of michigan, who you. Know some outlets
some people thought this may have been the best player they.
Drafted all night some guys had. HIM really high, i
Think He as sean marks kind, of alluded to thought
he was going. To go higher he, said it himself
he thought he was going. To Go Higher so danny

(27:52):
wolf was listed at Seven foot for, michigan last year
closer to six to eleven barefoot at the combine and
is a point center who can do all Sorts of weird,
AND by weird i mean cool stuff.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
With the ball Tell Us, About, danny wolf.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
Yeah, he is, complimentary a weirdo just a.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
VERY unique, PLAYER i mean i guess, that's you know
bad gringer, on my, part but yeah he's. A unique
player the four or five ball screen Between Him and
flag golden this Past, year.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
At michigan it's just some of.

Speaker 4 (28:21):
The most joy it brought me some of the most
joy of all THE draft tape i was watching over
the course of, this past season just. Really fun stuff
but you just don't, see six ten six eleven guys
that can handle the. Ball, like that again play making off.
A live, dribble, i thought DEFENSIVELY he is i think
he's got a lot more range than you would think.

Speaker 3 (28:39):
From a, guy that is you, know his size and,
typically you know.

Speaker 4 (28:43):
Big players, with ball skills, they're like negatives like. Definitive
NEGATIVES defensively But i think wolf will be able to
hold his. OWN well enough i think the four percent
block rate or, Something like that michigan was one of
the better defenses. In the country that the top twenty
five defense, in the country placing a lot of a lot.
On wolf shoulders You know they golden's kind of a
lumbering center that played in a. Deep DROP often So

(29:07):
i think wolf it really comes down. TO the shot
i think that's what if he shoots better than expected,
THIS first year i think he should be the most
productive of this. GROUP of, rookies i mean obviously, being
THE oldest but i think he probably is the most,
ready to contribute like hit the ground running. Depending, SHOT
pending yeah i.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
Mean he did, he did, shoot you know thirty three
point six percent from three on.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Three.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Attempts a GAME the thing i really like about his
profile is that right He played at yale, for two
Years went to michigan for, his junior year and all
of the. Numbers went, up you know he tripled his
three point volume and shot the same efficiency right, or
not sorry tripled from, his freshman year but. A steady
increase the reboundy numbers. Stayed the, same you know IN

(29:56):
a bigger i guess. More athletic conference in the big
he got to the line. Just as much two point.
Finishing went up so all of that suggests that this
guy really did improve from his freshman to sophomore. To
junior year and he loves to. Pass the, ball you

(30:19):
know four assists a little bit more. Than three turnovers
that ratio. Is not perfect what do you see from
him as a guy that tries to like? Read the
floor because One Thing, about danny wolf this dude's gonna
try to.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
Make some passes.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
He has ambition he's not. Lack, for ambition.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
No these aren't these aren't like turnovers where, he you
know dribbles the ball off his foot or like. Has
a miscommunication these are turnovers where like he's trying to
hit the home run pass and sometimes.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
He hits it so what, Do, you, say.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
YEAH absolutely and i think that that is going.

Speaker 4 (30:49):
To be it this was not what was So Unique,
about Danny wolf isn't it isn't just the usage that He.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Saw at michigan it was just vastly different than what
he Had.

Speaker 4 (30:57):
DONE at yale i watched like a handful of his
once he kind of started to to work his way.
INTO draft conversations i wanted, to get, a you know
a better picture of the kind of, player he was
dating back to His time at eale and, looking at
it and that was just not something he, was really.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Doing at least not nearly at the volume He.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
Had AT michigan so i think some of that is
just kind of it's gonna.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Come with, experience you jump you shift your.

Speaker 4 (31:18):
Play type or the play style you have that drastically
while also.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
ELEVATING in competition i think there's gonna be, some you
know natural bumps in the road.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
You COME across but i think it is just gonna
be kind of and obviously he's not gonna be asked
to do as much as he was to a fraction
of decision making It with the brooklyn that He. Was
WITH michigan so i think just taking a little bit
of that burden off his shoulders.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Is gonna help.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
A good, bit but, yeah just uh maybe not trying,
to you know swing for the fences just get On
Base with danie.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Wilf is probably gonna be, them o yeah and hit.
Some open, threes you know he will take, the step
back so he'll, take you know another guy kind, of
you know in a similar vein to who. Took tough
shots and part of that maybe reflected in the, Three
point percentage and part of that Is, why the.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Nets you know are gonna believe that.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
He Can Shoot as sean mark sinto that and we're
gonna meet all These guys on tuesday and.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Talk to them but when you Zoom Out.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Right, Jegor ben nolan Drake And, now danny wolf it
is not only the biggest class of first round DRAFT picks,
in nba history it is one of.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
The most unique and they.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Clearly stockpiled a lot of guys who like to, pass
the ball like to.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Read the game.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
When you are LOOKING at an nba draft and You
see the nets walk away with, these five guys what
is it that, You, are like okay this is what they're. Trying,
TO do okay i think they're. Going for this as
a guy who's watched all these guys, FOR a, while.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
I, Mean yeah philosofly i'm endlessly Fascinated with as i'm
probably gonna love the most Most Minutes of brooklyn nets
games of anyone that lives South Of. The, MASON dixon
like i don't think anyone's gonna Watch As much BROOKLYN
nets as i, will in, my you know region.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Of, the country hey well they got they got A
lot of southern boys, on this team so, excluding their Families.

Speaker 4 (33:14):
Including the Clowney's. And, the, CLAXTON'S yeah Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
I Think i'm gonna i'm gonna.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
Be up there but it's just because what seems to
be a point of emphasis with, just the, little you
know Bits and pieces i've Seen from shaw. Mark media
appearances it's like you've said zero point, Five DECISION making
and i kind of Always thought that, i'm not antithetical but.
JUST maybe not i hadn't really grouped that with pick
and roll play making or like making decisions out, of

(33:41):
ball screens because those are just two a different. Kind
OF one one i kind of associated. MORE abstract one
i can't remember the word. You'd used it you said
it much MORE eloquently than i, Probably ABOUT to but
i feel like it's just when you're, running ball screens
it's a. Lot more, confined you know it's like a
multiple choice test versus, a you know free response question.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Is a great that is. A, GREAT analogy yeah i use.
The word regimented and sometimes you see guys that can
pass in pick and roll situations kind of exclusively, BECAUSE
all right i have the role or if this is the,
coverage they're playing this is going to. Be the help
and it is sort of that multiple choice where it's.
Like a CHECKLIST even whereas i Feel like the nets

(34:21):
who drafted a lot of great passing prospects who played
a lot of pick and roll have made a bet
that this will translate to sort of all areas, Of
the court like if you, can ace this we think
you can make point five decisions and know how to
play and keep the offense, moving in, flow you know

(34:42):
SO we may i think you'll see them initiate with
a pick and roll.

Speaker 2 (34:45):
With dribble, Handoffs You know jordi fernandez.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Proved in spades that he can design a confident offense
with a high level offense around a lot, of you know,
delay action handoffs pin downs that kind of almost operate
that almost kind of work as a. Pick and, roll
and yeah they drafted FOUR guys That I Think jeremy

(35:10):
jerry engelman. Tweeted this stat there were three players who
averaged six assists per thirty six minutes in. This Draft
class the nets drafted, all of them and then they,
drafted the guy the seven footer with the second highest
assist rate for any SEVEN footer.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
In ncaa history so.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
This, WILL be, reflected i think in the way they
play next year and. Then long term how does this
how do you see this kind of Becoming?

Speaker 4 (35:36):
For the nets this probably is not the answer that
the listeners, Want TO hear but i, just Don't know
because i've never seen so many these guys have exclusively
played out. Of picking roles it has been their entire
i'd say. That phrase previously this has been their. Entire
basketball education this is just all they've done is be.
The league guard they've never played off ball dating back,

(35:57):
to you know the time, they were fifteen and so this,
is gonna, be You know just i'm just gonna be
a very unique setting for. Them as well it's gonna,
it's gonna, be you know very different than anything. They
PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED so i i don't know How it's GONNA
that's why i just want to see what.

Speaker 3 (36:11):
It looks like yeah you're. GOOD or bad i just
want to see what.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
It LOOKS like and i Could and maybe i'm not,
giving enough credit like you know you have to when
you're asked to answer those questions running ball screens. Like
so frequently maybe then maybe it does make sliding down
in a more off. Ball roll easier and That's just
something i'm not, really you know privy to, at This
POINT but i'm i.

Speaker 3 (36:32):
JUST want to i just want to see. HOW it
looks i just see how.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
IT plays, out i, think above, anything you know you can,
love the draft you can, critique to picks, blah blah
blah you can even.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Dislike the strategy they are going to be.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
Fun TO watch and i am curious at the least
to kind of see how. It ALL works and i
think that's a good note. TO end, on i mean
they this is the start of a new Era For.
The brooklyn, nets you know five picks and A Swap
for michale bridges one year ago certainly signaled the start.

(37:09):
Of something new it was time to cash in, on
those picks on, many of them not all the.

Speaker 2 (37:13):
MANY of them, a year later.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
They added another, first round pick and they, credit to
Them Credit to sean marks put, his foot down said
this is kind of what, we're going for this is,
what WE'RE doing, AND i really i really can't wait to.
Watch him, Play You know. Summer league starts their first
game schedule just Came out. On july tenth they May
Have a summer league starting lineup of all five first.

(37:35):
Round draft picks obviously. Never been done AND they also
i would be remiss to say they also signed two,
undrafted free agents at least, For You know summer league
potential training Camp Invites in Grant nelson OF.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Alabama and Tj.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
Bomba of oregon what can, you tell us just real
quickly about one or both.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Of those guys.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
Bamba pre, standard off, guard good Shooter. Gets downhill nelson
another in The Same is wolf weirdough great ball skill
is about six, to six eleven more dynamic, of an
athlete but not as consistent a decision maker or just
a luminous Decision. Maker as wolf but gonna be A
very fun salt lead.

Speaker 2 (38:11):
Team, for sure yeah they're gonna be Must. WATCH in
vegas i.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
WILL be going i will be thrilled to see. Them
IN person and i would REALLY recommend any nets fan
to tune into those games more so than any other
summer league year because these guys. Are gonna play these
guys are going to play in. The regular season these
guys are part. Of the franchise it feels. Like going
forward and what a couple of Nights for the nets
