This is a podcast call twenty fives Stocking fun Fall
and they are well a whizz so yes, too bad,
but what did you expect?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
It's a podcast call twenty five West.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Soul twenty line. Welcome to the show, hit Eddie, thank
you guys for being here. Seth Wickersham coming out. We'll
talk quarterbacks. It's a great conversation. I'm glad you can
hear it. I got a couple of things. One I
went to the Cubs game last night, a lot of fun.
Weather got good. We were worried because I remember what
did the Cardinals and rained us out?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Oh yeah, terrible.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
I started raining again.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Oh no, haven't we started thinking it was us?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Yeah, you guys bring the ring, brought the loss.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Oh no, yeah that's right, not really because they won
two or three from the Braves. Okay, yeah, so they're
not gonna win the division anyway. They're five bat where
they were five back going last night. The Brewers are
a different animal. They were going to make the playoffs.
So it was a fun game. Eight two hot dogs.
There were some famous people there. Tom Morello from Regagain's Machine, Yeah, wow,
(02:37):
guitar player, all right, Kevin, come on, Eddie.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
Was at your first time at Wrigley.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
No, it's my second time, but it's my first time
with those seats.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
They had the picture actually, yeah, we're probably like seven
rows back from home plate.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
That's legit.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, you see everything.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
And the coolest thing that I liked from the ang
we were at was just to see the curvature of
the ball when it gets hit, just to kind of
see like, oh man, that's going let know it's not
it's curving right, And then you see the outfielder try.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
We can see the up against the pole, like the
line on the pole, isn't that crazy? The outfielders like
how they get the tail, and you're just like you
read that.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
It was fun. Wait, a good time, that's awesome. We
spent all day in Chicago yesterday. I went to promote
a bit of the other podcast that I do with
Matt Castle, because this one doesn't need this one's a baller.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Did you throw our podcast in there just.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Like this one? I didn't. I went up with intention
of that one to promote that one.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
I remember, we don't need it right right?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
Well, you know you know what Bobby said, Kevin?
Speaker 5 (03:37):
He he because he went into we saw I saw
two of your interviews out of the three, and the
one that they weren't broadcasting, and we.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Won the Cubs one too, So you saw three of
the four.
Speaker 5 (03:46):
Okay, yeah, three of the four. But the one that
we did not watch. He comes out, He's like, oh man,
you guys didn't watch that three? You guys are shout up?
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Really I did? I swear to god, I'm like, did
the one that I didn't see?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
You threw a shout out out?
Speaker 1 (03:59):
So I get there, and that's you know, Barstool's a
mostly male audience, so it's a different audience that can
be exposed to me and to hopefully some of them
will go and sample lots to say like that's the goal,
and so go up. And I do mostly sports with
Brandon Walker and Mark Titus, who I'm a big fan of.
And so they do their show. It's a YouTube show
they do every day and it's a podcast, and they
(04:19):
do their show live every day, same time. And so
I hop into that show and I walked in and
they had already started a few minutes earlier. So I
was a little discombobulated because I had never met them
in person. I'd only been on one of their shows
through this studio when I room did a virtual. So
I walked in and I was like, oh, and they're
already going. So I just sat down on the couch
(04:41):
and I liked it because I just kind of jumped in,
just kind of fell in and they asked me some stuff.
But I did plug the podcast that Matt and I
did and we just did an hour talking about all
kinds of stuff. I didn't say aything about Eddie, you know,
really come up and George Burger is with us was
a friend of ours, but George now has two number
ones and had something come up about new country music.
I had to give in Georgia shout out didn't come up.
(05:01):
I knew they were watching on the television out in
the main lobby. There's like a room they have. It's
like a chill out room, Okay, but I didn't really
feel the need to like shot them out, nobody like
force them. The other one they watched was called The
Yak and it's like an hour forty five minute YouTube
show podcast and it's like everybody that's up there all
sitting around and I did the gauntlet and you're going
(05:22):
in the.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Gym and you do all these Oh yeah, I've seen
clips and videos of that, like shooting and I crushed it.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Did you he crushed it, Kevin?
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I crushed it. I'm not here to gasp myself up
because there are many times I don't crush stuff. But
it starts off with a bean bag, cornhole, cornhall, ok.
And you can't touch a bag, and they go go
and you have to grab and start throwing one at
a time. I grab one bag across the gym, nailed
it first, right in the whole, nothing but hole, and
(05:50):
I was like, oh God, So then I go I
suck kicking. But of the first three balls, one of
my balls went in and it focker. Okay, right, hey, okay,
classic American. I didn't see it go in, but they
were watching the line and apparently the ball went behind
the goalie's hand over the line. I kept kicking the
like no, no, it went, so I went. The next
thing is a whiffle ball and you have to throw
(06:12):
it to yourself. I had a home run over this
out of the gym. The timing's weird because you're throwing
it to yourself and try, dude, I ripped it. Home run.
First swing gone. The next one is a quarterback throw
with the hole and you got to throw the ball through.
The first throw through the hole, dang, and I'm like,
I'm on fire. I lose my shoe on the gym
in the basket, so my shoe comes off and I'm
(06:32):
one showed. And I hit my fourth three pointer of
the four, they have a rack, so I shoot one,
almost made the first one one of them. The third
was an air ball, and I was like, calm down, drill.
The fourth one go across drill did the whole thing
in like thirty six seconds, so I was really feeling
great about that. Yeah. I did the whole interview with them.
Never said anything about Eddie. Sorry, buddy. They didn't ask
about it, didn't expect it really right. Did the Cubs
(06:52):
one and they were in the room, and it's the
channel in Chicago that has the Cubs the Bears. It's
called the Marque Network, it's television NETW didn't really bring
up Eddie or George. There was no reason. Yeah, it
didn't come out. It came up on this other podcast
that I did called Macrodosing, which they do a lot
of culture stuff. They talk about sports a little bit.
And I go in and one of the guys that
(07:14):
hosts it is very popular. His name is well, not
your real name, but pft.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Yah is what he go yeah by him very popular.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, and so he was like, hey, I still he
was in Austin for like eight years, just like I
used to listen to your show all the time. And
he was like, it's crazy that you have all these
people you've always worked with, And I was like, yeah,
Like they didn't give us any money. So I just
brought in my friends, and I was like, my friend
out here today. Eddie's not my best friend, but he's
also been on my show now for twelve years. Because
I just surround myself with people that put me in
(07:43):
a better place. And so I gave Eddie a shout out.
And then we're talking about music, and I was like,
you know, there's a lot of music like in Nashville.
You just naturally are embedded in it if you're in
the industry. I was like, my friend George out here,
George Burg's the two number one songs that he's like
part of our group, Like it's just a and so
I getting both a shout out and I came out.
I didn't know they weren't on TV. I didn't know
it was the one that we weren't able to watch.
(08:04):
I didn't know it wasn't I didn't even have an option, no,
because they were watching a different show. The other guys
watching like a different betting show or something.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Yeah, we were there with like other interns in the room.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Yeah, so young guys.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
I didn't know they couldn't see it, but I didn't
say it because they were there. But I did give
a shout out. I was like, I shouted you guys out.
They're like, shut up, we watched three hours. You never
said anything about us. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
Coincidentally, the one that we couldn't see, he shouted us out. No,
we appreciate that though, dude, thank you man.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
You didn't have to do that.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
I didn't do you feel the pressure at all, like
when you're on the other three, Like I know you
said shout them out? Yeah, okay, just making sure like
I don't know, there's no pressure. I know there isn't,
but I'm just saying, this is.
Speaker 1 (08:41):
Not nineteen ninety nine party line. You calling us out
to your friend on the radio.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
I know, but I can see Eddie like sitting in
the back looking at you like.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
No, no, why I like, yeah, I'll save my name name.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Honestly, if you would have never said anything, I wouldn't
even thought like did you give me a shout out?
Speaker 1 (08:55):
No?
Speaker 5 (08:55):
But he came out of like straight out of the studio,
was like, man, did you guys see that I just
gave you a shout out?
Speaker 1 (08:59):
You know that we can't see. I didn't know they
couldn't see.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
That's funny.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
So yeah, awesome day.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Yeah, I kind of felt bad for them because they
had to sit there for like four hours. They did
all these interviews.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Dude, barstool. That place is like it's like sports heaven.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
It's all dudes, just about all. They got a full gym.
You had a workout gym. That's a golf simulated dude,
you name it.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
The way I told my wife is like if our
boys had their own business and they're like, you get
to decorate it however you want, do whatever you want,
That's how we would be.
Speaker 4 (09:32):
That would be it right there.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
And it's just a bunch of dudes. I'm sure they're
doing jobs, but just sitting around like on laptops. You know. Again,
I'm sure they're working right things. But and then there's
all these rooms they go and do a podcasts and stuff.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
Is that their main hub or is it in New York?
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Do you know? So their main hub was only in
New York. They opened this one up, but they're moving
out in New York. Struck, I don't know. That's now
the one that's where they shoot the TV show Front
they just started on Fox.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Oh okay, cool.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
So it was great and I was super happy that
they had me come on all the shows got some
press for the podcast that we do love it. Went
to the game. We went to the sky deck, which
is what that is, the top of the used to
be the Sears Tower, the tallest building in America. Oh yeah,
it does anymore. But we went up on top of that.
And so you just go up to the top and
look out a window. What do you think that ticket cost?
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, you're on vacation.
Speaker 4 (10:18):
Yeah no, no, okay, just go You're just going to
the top and just seeing the scenic views, right, that's
what we're doing.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
There's no there's nothing to do up there. No, you
just look out, look out.
Speaker 4 (10:26):
I'll say forty five dollars.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
It is taking the story not that good.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
I mean, it's Chicago.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
It's a it's sixty bucks, yeah, sixty five bucks a ticket. Yeah,
And I was like we should go up to this.
So I was like, I'll pay for everybody's because I
one that made him come there. I don't want to
pay for sixty five bucks for something they didn't really
want to do. So we all went up. So I
paid like two hund and fifty bucks for us to
go and look out a window. And then I was like, yeah,
this is pretty high. It's cool, but we were in
an airplane earlier that was higher. That's a good point,
(10:56):
a good and it had windows. It is a good point.
And so I also we got on this part of
the glass like goes out over the city and you
stand on it and the bottom's out and they take
a picture of you. There's a camera up and so me, Eddie,
George and Morgan got in the picture. And then I
bought the pictures, like forty bucks for the four pictures,
about four of them for it was about the four
(11:18):
pictures for us. And Morgan's like, okay the pictures she
left them in the car list. Oh no, Morgan, Yeah,
no pictures.
Speaker 5 (11:25):
I'm sure those pictures were awesome. You can see the
whole city underneath your feet.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yeah, that is cool. Was it scary at all?
Speaker 5 (11:32):
That part was because it's just glass, Dude, you're standing
on glass. But I was like, that's not scary, Like I.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
Hate heids, but I knew weren't.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of heights.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
We were gonna fall any We're gonna die. Yeah, I
will say though, man, like the way you like to
see sight see, I love it, like I wish that.
That's how my family would you describe how like the sight? See? Absolutely,
buy the ticket, go look at it? Cool?
Speaker 3 (11:57):
You guys ready, And it's like.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
We saw it. We saw everything we needed to see.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
We can did a little m I'll look at that,
took pictures, and then we leave, and then he wants
he wants to like, you want to go see the bean? Yeah,
I did some about nine blocks away. I've seen the
bean in pictures. Let's go check it out. We get
to the bean, you.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
Want to take a picture. Cool, gosh, this thing's huge.
All right, you guys ready to go.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
That's amazing and we did. We should all be like that,
I agree, because like, okay, you see it now what
I in here and looking keep looking.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
At it, and like my family would be like, let's
buy popsicles and let's just sit by the bean for
a little like why what were we doing?
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Get out of here? Yeah? I didn't think about it.
That's kind of how I live my life. Yeah, Okay,
got everything I can possibly get out of it, and
I don't want to feel any more miserable being here,
so let's just go ahead and and kick rocks and
get out. So yeah, we had a good twelve hour
trip to Chicago.
Speaker 4 (12:42):
Yeah, that's cool. I like Chicago a lot.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
Yeah, when it's not cold.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
I've never been there when it's freezing.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Don't don't go Siberia. I ever heard of it? Uh yeah, yeah,
it's like that same. It's brutal. I love Chicago, but
brutal in the winter.
Speaker 4 (12:55):
Food is so good.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Though. We did our draft of teams. So I've been
in this league the last couple of years. I've talked
about on the show, but I give a quick recap,
and it's me and five other guys, five other teams,
six people, and you each draft six teams and every
time you team wins, you make money. Every time your
team loses, you lose money. But it gets hard around
rounds three, four, and five to get teams that are
good because they're all just gone. And the first year
(13:18):
I did, I lost like two thousand dollars. Second year
lost like a few hundred bucks. Thirty year, last year
I made like four thousand dollars. Yeah, and I don't
think I figured it out, but I had a strategy
going in because I've played it a couple of times,
and so on this show, it's like you guys want
to get in, but there's no limit to what you
can lose, but there's also no limit to what you
can gain. We had Matt stell on, who's our friend,
(13:40):
and he was like, yeah, somebody lost like ten thousand
dollars one like ten whatever it was. So you guys
decided to come in at twenty five and twenty five
percent yep, and I'm fifty percent. So I text everybody.
I'm like, hey, the draft is at eight o'clock of
these teams, and you guys be on text and I'll
try to update you as we're going. But it moved fast,
(14:01):
and so Kevin's like, I'm putting the babies down and
I got to shoot some influencer videos. Oh no, some
drink station, yeah, priorities. And Eddie's like cool, Well I
knew Kevin was with the kids. I said, Eddie the zoom,
lenk just hop on the zoom that I'm on when
we do the draft. So Eddie gets on the zoom
so he's able to text without me even texting him,
like he's listening in. And at first you bid on
(14:22):
who gets to pick their draft slot. So I've done
this a few times now and I know you can
get a pretty good draft spot for pretty cheap early.
So I'm like two hundred bucks, I want to pick
my spot, and they're like great. So I picked the
third spot because it's snake draft.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
So if I had to pick first, you get a
Buffalo or Baltimore or whatever, and then you have to
wait till pick freaking twelve. Right, So I pay two
hundred bucks and I get spot three because I feel
like there are three teams in that A tier. We
paid two hundred, right, No, I paid one hundred and
pay fifty fifty. You don't have to pay. It happens
at the end of they put it on your bill
or take it off your bill. Okay, So what are
you thinks that three teams are on the A tier?
Speaker 4 (14:56):
The eight tier would be in my in my mind,
you get there, it could be more, Okay, Buffalo, Baltimore,
in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Kansas City.
Speaker 4 (15:08):
I was gonna say Kansas It's I'm not trying to
be a hater.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
But oh yeah, you hate Kansas City. I forgot because
they threatened the Patriots.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
But it was between Philly and Kansas City, if that helps.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Okay, So in Philly you could put in the eight
tier for sure. Yeah, I didn't because you know, my
friends a Cowboys fan, and I respect that.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
I appreciate that. Yeah, and I was watching too.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
So I get the third pick and I'm like, boom so,
first pick Buffalo figured, second pick Baltimore figured. I'm like,
I'm sitting here, I'm gonna ta Kansas City. So I
take Kansas City, feeling good about that. Had kan City
last year made me a lot of money. So four
or five six happens. Then it goes six five, four
to three back to me and I'm ready to take
the Packers, which, by the way, I was looking at
(15:50):
the odds Super Bowl odds for this year Buffalo and
Baltimore at plus six hundred of the leaders Philadelphia, then
the Chiefs, then the Packers, then the Lions, then the Commanders,
then the forty nine ers. Well, so I was like,
I think the Packers, but the Bengals are all. I
was telling Ddie beforehanded, somebody's probably gon take the Packers,
(16:11):
but if they don't, we should take the Packers. If
they take the Packers, take the Bengals. And he's like, Bengals,
I like Cincy, and I'm like in my mind, I'm going, man,
I would take the Packers, but I like Cincinnati too,
And I just sent the text, no, no, no, you
were fighting for the I sent the text.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
I was like, I like Cincinnati.
Speaker 4 (16:32):
And then it came to Bobby and the Packers were there.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Were there. You should have heard his voice. He was like, yeah,
let's go. Yeah, we'll go Bengals. Oh no, I didn't
want to not give you guys a voice.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
I know.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
Would you have gone Packers? Yes, yeah, yeah, just based
on pre season and expectations.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Absolutely anything. I mean, I love Joe Burrow. Their offense
is awesome. But anything you know about the Bengals are
the first four weeks, are probably gonna lose three games.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
They didn't make the playoff last year.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
They didn't make the playoff last year.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
They played great at the end.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Yeah, they almost squeaked in.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
They don't have a defense. I think the Bengals are
gonna be pretty good this year. I do. And also
in their division, I who knows what captain with Pittsburgh,
the brown suck, yeah, man, but the Ravens are really
good m hm. And so that's all the division, right, yeah?
So I and I'd look back and I said to him, Hey, Packers,
(17:33):
if they're not there to take the Bengals, what do
you think. I just want to say that I agree. Look,
if I being honest, I just wanted them to go,
like I agree. Yeah, but he didn't, and I respect that.
I respect because you guys are putting money in for sure. Yeah,
so I said, Okay, Bengals, and I'll be rooting hard
for the Bengals. And I hope I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
I hope, I hope I'm right. Gosh, I hope I'm
right because I'll.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Never hear the end of it. You won't, I will not.
I hope they both could win though too good. It
doesn't have to be one or the other. So, but
that's that situation on that So it goes over to
the Bengals and wraps back around. And I believe in
round three I took the Bucks.
Speaker 5 (18:07):
Yeah, at that point, there was no like Eddie, what
do you think? It was just like I got this,
I got this, get a drink, whatever you want, dude.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
At round three, I took the Bucks. I feel like
they play in a week division love that one. I
feel like they can. Yeah, I just like the Bucks. Yeah,
I died too, and then great offensive line, especially when
they come back fully healthy. Yep uh. And then round four.
There aren't a lot of teams left. After round three,
you're talking about eighteen teams gone. Now they're picking teams
to lose as well, because you pick a team to
(18:35):
lose and if they lose. But the problem with picking
teams to lose is once the playoffs start, you can't
make any more money except for maximum one time. If
one of your good team makes it and then loses,
and you pick them to lose, but probably didn't pick
a good team. It's the whole thing. You don't really
So I picked. I took the Patriots in your honor. Now,
you didn't tell me to do that, so I'm not
(18:55):
gonna blame you. But I no, I didn't know, so
our four and then I tried the old trick again.
But it doesn't matter because they're off the board. I
have Miami Dolphins to lose, Miami Dolphins to win, So
that's they're dead. Yeah, they kncel each other out right, Yes, Okay,
so we have four teams, made them all to win.
We really need three of the four to win. Every week.
Speaker 4 (19:15):
I was wondering if you picked the Patriots, Like if
I had any influence on that.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Oh yeah for sure, but not so much that I
irrationally just jumped into the Patriots. There were no teams left.
It was around that time, and I thought, okay, there's
like four teams I think are about the same. And
I was like, I think Kevin would like it if
since they're all the same. In my mind, if I
went with the Patriots because we're already it makes us
root for them too. Yep, I love it, and you
have a Patriots had one to pay perfect thank you.
So those are our four teams.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
Okay, I feel pretty good.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
I've never rooted for those four teams ever in my life.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
The Cowboys were only picked once and to lose. Yes,
the first year that's ever happened. Somebody always picks them
to win. They were never picked to win. They were
only picked to lose. They're playing tonight. How do you feel?
Speaker 5 (19:56):
I feel great? I just I feel so good. I'm
just so glad season starting. This is an exciting feeling.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Dude. Eagles eight and a half point favorite.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Not worried about it, that is, I don't think we're
gonna it.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Does it does keep going up? Oh?
Speaker 4 (20:10):
Really?
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I'm gonna be if it's still eight and a half
right now, I'm gonna bit heavy on the Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
I think it started at seven, it's seven and a half.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
That was yeah ago, and now it's it'll be nine
by the time the games.
Speaker 4 (20:21):
I mean, that's a lot in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
I'm telling you this too. I am on such a heater.
Did you hear my baseball story or no?
Speaker 3 (20:28):
No, no, tell him?
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Were doing the show, the podcast? On the show, I
need to beat this cowboy real quick, had a boy
I did? They're still plus eight and a half.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
All right, I'm go.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
I mean, dude, it's gonna be closer than that.
Speaker 4 (20:41):
You gotta you gotta think.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
I don't think we'll win the game.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Oh god, if he's thinking that, I don't have that
it anymore. I don't think we'll win the game. But
it's got to be closer than that.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
So much in the NFL, it is okay.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
I'm gonna put two and fifty bucks on Cowboys plus
eight and a half. Let's go. Last night we had yeah,
the DraftKings you can use in NOI we get there
and Eddie's betting on every bat.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
The Cubs is awesome. Ever strike next.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
As soon as we get there, he goes, we should
bet first inning, and I'm just there. I love the
Cubs and a regularly with my boys, got great seats,
get hooked up with great seats and just enjoyed it.
Got a couple of hot dogs. And he's like, no,
it's just this bet.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
I don't really I don't.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
I don't really need that. But he I guess why not, right,
You're in it.
Speaker 4 (21:27):
Awesome.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
So he's beat and he's bet we go no runs
first inning. Now I'll say it again for the sake
of the story. Obviously, I want the Cubs to win,
but we both bet no runs first. Braids come up,
go down, one, two, three. We're like halfway there, and
for the first time I live, I'm rooting against the
Cubs to score. And the bottom halving the first quietly,
(21:49):
and so we're watching and you know, ground out, pop fly,
pop fly, and then strike out, and we were like,
you know, in your Cubs gear.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
So hey, I even I even went over the top
of like, I was all right, boy, we'll get a
mixed tap mixed up.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
We're sitting like right behind the plate and we were like,
so I've got like one hundred fifty bucks made one
hundred fifty bucks.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Nice, So I don't really bet anymore. But I'm watching
Eddie over there, just tinkering away, like just got trying
to predict it. I live Santana home run. He's bet
like one dollar. He's like, if I hit this, I
went forty dollars.
Speaker 4 (22:32):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
And So a couple endings go by and it's zero
zero and I've eating amal hot dogs.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
You're watching me.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Why not if fun, it'll give us something to talk about,
it something bind about. And so come in. So I
bet on a couple, win a couple. First inning. I
think I make like one hundred bucks or something overall,
because I bet like fifty bucks here or twenty five
bucks here. Next inning, I'd made a little, but I
was like, I'm gonna bet two hundred bucks on a single. Now,
it can't be a double triple home run. It can't
(23:03):
be a ground out, it can't be a strikeout, it
can't be a walk back. It's gotta be an exact single.
So i'bout two hundred bucks single, made a thousand bucks.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
Shut up?
Speaker 1 (23:13):
It was crazy. We jumped up like we just the
power ball.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Hey, hey, and it was up in the air.
Speaker 1 (23:18):
He just hit it short. So they just hit the
gap flow flow float land there. Because it was a single,
it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
It was so that is awesome, amazing.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
It's amazing, especially because it wasn't like right away you
knew it as a single, like if there's some build
up to the ball in the air.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
And we were there, like how often do you get
a big hit when you're actually there right off of
something so random? So random, it was crazy.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
Yeah, not gonna lie even.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
I was like Cowboys tonight, but I've been high.
Speaker 1 (23:50):
I've been hot hot, so because I crushed last week. Listen,
I'm not a good better. I'm a fine better. I'm
an average better. I would say not a bad better,
but not a good better. So I don't think what
I say is the gospel. I'm not that guy. I
don't have stone cold locks. I'm pretty hot right now.
Right the Cowboys plus.
Speaker 4 (24:10):
Years ago, like first two months, you couldn't lose.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
I won like ten individual in a row. Yeah that's good.
Maybe I'm back on that track. Oh so Cowboys plus
eight and a half, I love it, let's get it.
I did want to do a couple of because I
have college in NFL games I'm most interested in. I
want to go to college first. I have San Jose
at number seven Texas Texas a thirty six and a
(24:34):
half point favorite. I'm so interested because I'm I I
just want to watch Arch again. You want to see
him shine. I want to see him try to build
a career, like like fairly try to be a quarterback
and not have to play the number one team in
(24:55):
the country. Well Texas was number one Tech, yeah, Texas one,
but not I played like the defense in the country's
first game, and then everybody jump on him. I hate that.
I'm rooting for Arch. I hate it, Mike, I hate
it so much. I love it. I like Arch. I
think it's because I like the Mannings in general, and
so I'm rooting for Arch.
Speaker 3 (25:13):
No, you're not rooting for Arch the Longhorn.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
I hate Texas.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
You're just rooting for them.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Rooting for Arch Man I am because I hate when
people jump on somebody and go they're done, write them off.
It was like, that's why I became such a big
Kaitlin Clark fan, because she was obviously awesome coming out
of college at Iowa. But I wasn't like I'm so,
but everyone's like, there's no chance she's gonna do this,
and it was just like NonStop dragging. And then she
started the season. It wasn't hot because I came right
off right out of college a the WNBA people were
(25:39):
killing her, and I was like, I'm in. I couldn't
root harder for Kaitlin Clark, and so I became big
Kaitlyn Clark fan. I'm rooting for arch Ope Art throws
for five hundred yards and Texas loses. Yeah, I want
a jersey, So that game I'm interested in. I mentioned
in Oklahoma State at Oregon. Now Oregon's a twenty eight
and a half point favorite, but in one of the pressers,
(25:59):
they go to Dan Landing and they're like, you know,
oh Gundy, he said, you guys spent forty million on
your roster, and then Dan Lanning just slides into it
and goes, you know, we do invest a lot in
winning here at Oregon, and I feel like the teams
that don't invest a lot in winning, because you can
invest a lot in winning, or you can not invest
a lot and have an excuse for losing. And I
was like oh he he took him out to the
(26:22):
wooch Eden in a very nice way. Yes, And so
they're playing each other. I can't wait for it. That's awesome.
And Oregon's probably gonna serve it up. Yep. And I
like Okahoma State and I like Gundy. But I thought
that I liked that crying about money, like Oregon doesn't
have anything unfair. If you're crying about something unfair, I
(26:44):
get it.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
Nike, but yeah, that's not unfair. Everybody can have a Nike.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
He boom pickens dead. But billionaire built their stadium? Had
they have all the nice facilities? Like everything at different times?
Was that guy? What did he do? Oil Man? Oil Man?
Speaker 4 (26:57):
Oil Man?
Speaker 3 (26:59):
You still have his number?
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Yeah? Every single texts.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Nope.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
I don't text anybody. I don't want text me. I
don't want bother people want bother people. I could, but
you don't. I got the power of I could. I
got two other games college wise, Arizona State at Mississippi State.
This is interesting to me because will Arizona State and Dillingham.
They're a top fifteen team. They had a great end
(27:24):
of the year last year. They lost the Texas in
the playoff obviously, they're playing in nexts C school in
a NETSC stadium that is not supposedly good. But they
are on the slight rebuild and I like them now
because I watched any given Saturday. I like the coach,
I like Levy. I think both of those teams are
going to see who they are.
Speaker 4 (27:43):
Yeah, I'm excited for that one too.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
Like Mississippi State, they played Southern miss It was pretty
close for a while. Yeah. That that game is interesting
to me for a lot of reasons. It's a big
twelve school, it's a nexts C school, It's a team
on the come up, Arizona State like on a national level,
a prominent level, with a coach who Now like the
darling because he's like the youngest I think he's nine,
yeah years old. Yeah, he's been on the show too.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
Yeah, forgot about him on last year during the playoff.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
That's right, That to me is fun. But the big
game is Michigan at Oklahoma. Two top twenty teams, two
legendary teams. You got a five star quarterback and Bryce
Underwood at Michigan who played pretty well last week they
played New Mexico. I'm going from memory here. Look good
eighteen years old, just turned eighteen. Five star kid, and
they're going to Oklahoma. And Oklahoma has a possible Heisman
(28:31):
contender at quarterback. You know, the offensive coordinator and the
quarterback both came down from Washington State. So Oklahoma is
almost a touchdown favorite because they are playing in Oklahoma.
But that that game is interesting to me because it's
going to allow a lot of things to settle. How
good is Bryce Underwood when he's not supposed to be
Is that good? And he's supposed to be good but
he's eighteen.
Speaker 4 (28:51):
Yeah, he doesn't have the like the hype that arch
nobody does. Nobody to that standard though, I'm saying, because
he is still like he plays for Michigan and they
had a down year last You're Oklahoma also had it
down yere.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Yeah, bad down.
Speaker 4 (29:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
So both those teams are gonna show something. I always
roote for the SEC team in situations like this, and
then because it's my family's team, I root for them obviously.
But that should be a good game, obviously, Arkansas, Arkansas State.
You nobody cares about that, but us we shouldn't even think.
We don't e think we should play it. We've never
played them in the history of football. It's first time
ever and we're playing them a crappy Memorial stadium in
Little Rock. I respect the stadium. Been to a bunch
(29:23):
of games that rush the field, but it's like, we
shouldn't play games off campus. But it's actually closer for
Arkansas State than it is for Arkansas, and it's an
Arkansas home game. There's really nothing you can get positive
from it because if they even play close, they're like, hey,
look at us, We're close to the big school. It's stupid.
So I hope we win and move on. Thinking about
going to the ole Miss game next week at ole Miss.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Okay, what are they playing ole Miss?
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (29:47):
Sorry, Arkansas.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
If they were going to Oregon, that'd be weird. I
don't know why even a random ole Miss game. If
it's a solid result this week and make go to
ole Mess.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
That's cool, I've heard. Great, Yeah, that's I heard.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
I don't know. Maybe I'll invite some people. I don't
even have tickets yet.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
We give them shout outs on the anywhere you go.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Well, I'm not doing interviews, but would if I do
an interview when they're not looking here? NFL wise, Cowboys
and Eagles tonight. Very interested in that game for a
lot of reasons. But our money is not in this
game though, No, not our money, but our private money
is yeah, private money. The chess isn't our community chess.
That'll be fun to see just what the Cowboys do.
(30:30):
They're gonna throw a lot. Is it because they're going
to be down?
Speaker 4 (30:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (30:34):
Is it a let's see how bad they're going to
be or let's see I think it's a let's see
dot dot dot.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
Yeah, all of that, all the above.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
You know what's stack up.
Speaker 4 (30:42):
To going for you is your expectations are just so low?
Speaker 1 (30:46):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Yeah, I mean they're pretty neutral. Do I think that
this is our They were low week ago?
Speaker 1 (30:51):
No? No, no, you're not shifting. You quit them last week.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
Is this our year? Possibly?
Speaker 1 (30:56):
No no, no no no, you quit them last week,
you fully quit them. Now you're neutral, and now you're
back to positive.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
You wear a hat, been a week.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
I got that hat back on. That's a quick change, baby,
You're so stupid. He even changed like in the mid paragraph.
It's like neutral. That could be our year. We'll see
what I say to Mark? Can you imagine, man, I
win the Friday night game? Our team, the Chiefs our team.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
It's hard to say.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
I know, I've never said that in my life.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
You have, I know, I know, Hey, if they win,
you know, at least I'm getting some money out of
not at least you got a root for yea.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
They're playing in Brazil. Oh, this is the Brazil and
it's only on YouTube. What the dude? This is gonna
get bad? Oh my gosh, like YouTube? Whi itse like
Logan paula quarterback?
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Yeah? Like what do you mean bad?
Speaker 4 (31:51):
Like to view it?
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Well, I don't have YouTube? Like is it? Everybody has YouTube?
You just go to YouTube dot com. It's not YouTube TV.
I believe it's just because because.
Speaker 5 (31:59):
Last year I had to get peacock and then cancel
it when just to watch the Chiefs game.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
Would you mind looking it's just YouTube?
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Yeah I thought so. So I just go to YouTube
and he's like, I don't have the internet, No dude, Okay,
well it's it's everywhere.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Well that's easier then.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Okay. So I have those two games, and then obviously
my favorite team is the Panthers. Oh yeah, Panthers are
Jags and then just Raiders of Patriots it's gets a
litt Kevin gets our game. Now we're rooting for the party.
So that's good. Bucks at Falcons should be interesting.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Yes, you need them to win, Yeah, you need that.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
And also for that that division. That's a quick division game.
Speaker 4 (32:35):
Huh yeah, and probably the top two you think would
be in that division hunt.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Yeah, it's like, yeah, I hope the Bucks are Falcon
is the favorite to win the division?
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Are they really?
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Yeah? Which is weird?
Speaker 3 (32:46):
Who are Bengals playing?
Speaker 1 (32:48):
The Bengals are playing the Browns. Let's go and they'll
play them twice this year? I know. We like that.
Dolphins at Colts, that's that's like the worst game of
the weekend.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
Yeah, it's bad.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
It's bad. Cardinals at Saints also pretty bad. There's at
least one team who's kind of okay.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
Steelers at Jets. That's the Aaron Rodgers Bowl. He plays
for Steelers, Yes, yes, yes, he plays with Steelers, used
to play for the Jets. There you go. Giants at Commanders.
It'll be interesting to see if the Cananders could be
good again. I think they are. Panthers and Jags. My
Panther team the whole life been rooten Titans the Broncos
forty nine Ers at Seahawks should be interesting. Oh yeah,
(33:26):
and then we get to like the good games. The
Lions at Packers will be awesome, yes, or at least
on paper it should be awesome. Uh, Texans at Rams
should be good. On what's up with Stafford?
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Like how bad is that? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Like if backs always hurt him?
Speaker 4 (33:43):
I feel like he's always hurting. Something's always hurting.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
And then Ravens and Bills. That's a big boy. Is
there no Monday night game this week?
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Do you know what the Bears?
Speaker 1 (33:53):
That's right?
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Vikings?
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Oh yeah, Bears and Vikings, Ravens and Bills. Like that's
AFC championship type game. It could yeah, definitely could be.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Oh yeah, no, no, it's going to be the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
It could be. It could be. But I'm saying that's tight, tight, tight.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Yes, we need the Chiefs in there.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Yeah yeah. So all right, there we go. Good luck everybody,
Thank you, good luck to us and our teams. Our team. Okay,
we're gonna break come back with Seth Wickersham talk quarterbacks.
Eddie got a new job. We'll talk about that in
a minute too. Be back in a second. NFL fans.

(35:14):
less on this because I don't think they're gonna need
to throw the ball a whole bunch to beat the Browns,
So I think I go less than that. One Rock
Pardy more or less than two hundred and forty six
passing yards at Seattle. I'm also gonna go less there.
Derrick Henry more or less than eighty four rushing yards
at the Bills. I'm gonna be Week one hater. I'm
gonna go less again. I just feel like i'm going
(35:35):
I'm pretty much going all less is here. Jayden Daniels
more or less than one passing touchdown versus the Giants.
The Giants suck. I'm going yeah, I'm going less. I'm
four lesses right now. Jamar Chase more or less than
one touchdown at the Browns. You know what, Let's go
less thing, dude, Yeah, yeah yeah. And Pooka more or
less than seventy four receiving yards versus the Texans. I'm

Now, let's go over and talk with ESPN Senior writer,
New York Times best selling author Seth Wickersham. He's got
a new book coming out called American Kings, a biography
of the quarterback that you can order now on Amazon.
It actually comes out on Tuesday, and he talks all
about the quarterback position from way old school people to
people of today. Great writer at Seth Wickersham. Here he is,
(37:25):
Seth Wickersham. All right, Seth Wickersham is on with us,
and we were just talking about the book. Seth. By
the way, again, it's American Kings, a biography of a quarterback,
which you can pre order, but it's not even like
a pre order because it comes out so soon that
it's almost the same time. If you order it now,
you'll get it basically when the book comes out.
Speaker 6 (37:40):
Right, Absolutely, great to see you, man, good to be here.
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Yeah, congratulations on the book. I think this is great.
It's super timely. Let's talk about Arch Manning for a second.
And you know you write about how how ruthless the
recruitment was, how did they settle on Texas.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
So, Michael, with the book, you know, what I wanted
to do was show what it's like to do this
very uniquely American job, very unique American responsibilities at like
every level from current high school to college, pro, retired
Hall of Famer. And Arch was interesting to me because
you know, it was a window into this entire iconic
quarterback family. And so I was able to kind of
(38:16):
like or I was hoping to try to tell the
entire Manning story through Arch and specifically through Arch's recruitment,
and it got so competitive. I think that, like even
being there, it was interesting just to see, especially in
the NIL era, how hot it got for Arch. You know,
I think that it came down to Alabama, Georgia, and Texas.
(38:38):
The reasons why he picked Texas were I think they
were pretty wise. I mean, in no particular order. Number one,
Steve Sarkigian he's the play caller and the head coach,
so he's not going anywhere. He's not going to be
one of these guys who gets poached to be a
head coach somewhere else. Number Two, he really liked that
Texas might you know, was going to be a team
on the upswing, and here's a chance to win a
national championship there. It kind of helped elevate it. He
(39:01):
liked that it was at school that had a ton
of talent, and I think after being at eastid or Newman,
which is obviously a pretty pretty small school in New Orleans,
he wanted to be on a team that had, you know,
other five star players. And then finally, and this is
the one that I personally find the most interesting, is that,
you know, Austin's a big enough city you don't even
call it a college town. It's a city that he
(39:21):
thought he could be pretty anonymous there. And that, to
me is the most interesting aspect of it all, because
here you have arch Manning and you know, member of
like you know, football Royalty, and you know, part of
the reason why he picked Texas was because he thought,
and we'll see how well that works out, that you know,
he could be anonymous there. And I think that, like
even some of the reporting of my book, you know,
(39:42):
shows that like that itself was was too difficult to
ask for.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
How influential were Archie, Cooper, Peyton eli All in Archer's
recruitment and actually helping him achieve his destination of Texas.
He did it himself.
Speaker 6 (39:58):
And I think that like they're all really really hyper
aware of looking like they had a hidden hand. And
Nelson Stewart, you know, so arch is sophomore year. Obviously
they realized he was going to be a top prospect.
So Nelson Stewart, the head coach at Newman, and Cooper
man to get together and they try to think about
like how they want this recruitment to look like. And
this is looking like staring at a tsunami from a distance, like,
(40:20):
there's no stopping this thing. And so Cooper said, I
want this to be a nineteen seventy five recruitment and
Coach Stewart was like, what do you mean? And Cooper
was like, I want you to run point. I want
you to be the gatekeeper. And we're not going to
take offers. We're not going to be posting on social
media every time a school offers to us how grateful
we are. We're going to do things a little bit
different to try to give Arch as semblance of a
(40:43):
normal high school life and you know, maintain his love
of the game. And I think that's really important. And
so it was Arch driving things and obviously, like the
family members, you know, could weigh in when they wanted.
But you know, they went to University of Virginia, where
arch Is older sister made goes. And as they were
walking around campus, Cooper was like, look, you know, this
(41:05):
isn't a bad choice. You know, it's a beautiful campus,
great school. You know, it's not football crazy, and I
think that like, maybe your life could be more normal here.
And you know, obviously Virginia wasn't a school that he
you know, ended up considering at the end of the day,
it was him that was driving this and he's the
one who decided on Texas really just like Peyton did
with Tennessee and even Eli. Did you know back in
(41:26):
the day.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
With Ole Miss you're right about Joe Namath then before
both of our time obviously, Joe Namath I think about
nineteen sixty nine h him guaranteeing him wearing the fur coats,
him being like in New York. But it was an
odd juxtaposition because he played at Alabama, like all of that.
We didn't get to experience it, but we're only catching
it like through story, like folklore even and so yeah,
(41:47):
what did you think of Joe namath cultural impact once
you started to really get into it at a deeper level.
Speaker 6 (41:52):
Well, I mean, look, all quarterbacks are cultural archetypes of
John Unitis and Joe Namath. I mean, like, those two
guys are huge pillars. And you know, as I show
in the book, there are other guys who who helped
set them up, especially Bob Waterfield. In the nineteen forties
he was married to Jane Russell. They were like the
first couples first, you know, the country's first power couple.
(42:14):
But really name it. It is, you know, a watershed
moment in so many ways. And it was interesting because
I've been with Joe Namath at events in New York
and I've been with him at one event at the
University of Alabama at the Stadium, and just my personal opinion,
I thought that he was way more revered, way more
(42:37):
sought after, almost looked like with a type of reverence
that was different when he was at Alabama rather than
the events in New York. I think that like Alabama
has such a a you know, a vast you know
history throughout college football, and obviously name it. It has
so much cultural template that he started once he was
with the Jets and kind of blossomed into you know,
(42:59):
this guy who first offered the idea of quarterback as
like a lifestyle. But at Alabama, you know, he said
that Barry Bryant said that he was the finest player
he ever coached. And I think that, like, you know,
when you listen to Joonamath talk about his career, I
think in a lot of ways, you hear him talking
about more joy when he was at Alabama than even
(43:21):
during his heyday in New York.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
I remember when the story first broke when you were
talking about the book, when it first was Hey, this
is going to be a book that exists, and the
Caleb Williams pre draft doubts came out like that had
to feel a bit like a tsunami a little bit,
and people were, you know, and they all had opinions
on your opinion and also what you saw. Right, So,
what's what's been the fallout and the follow up from
that story where you know it maybe Caleb didn't want
(43:44):
to go to Chicago.
Speaker 6 (43:45):
Well, they looked at both Caleb and Carl Willilliams looked
at it really intensely. And I think that like one
of the things that we forget, you know, quarterback has
become so big in our in our culture and so
celebrated and mythologized that we think that they can do
everything on their own and in fact, like outside circumstances, context,
those types of things have a huge impact on how
(44:08):
successful quarterbacks are at the end of the day. And
so when you're looking at a team like Chicago who's
going to draft you, and they have such a poor
record of drafting quarterbacks, of developing them, of coaching offensive football.
For Christ's sake, I think that it is very reasonable
for the guy who's going to be the first pick
in the draft to say, like, is there anything I
can do? Are there any other options out there? Especially
(44:31):
because he visited with Kevin O'Connell, head coach of the
Vikings raining Coach of the Year at the Combine, and
they really hit it off, and so I think that
like what he was thinking of was like, is there
a way to get myself to Chicago to Minnesota to
work for coach O'Connell. There really wasn't. And at the
end of the day, the choices that he was faced
with was either go to the Bears or do what
(44:55):
John and Jack Elway did or Archie and Eli Manning
did and really create a situationuation that was completely untenable.
And he wasn't willing to go there. As he told me,
you know, I didn't want to nuke the city. And
I think that, like, you know, taking a step back here,
I mean, Carl had huge fears about Chicago. He told me,
you know, Chicago's where quarterbacks go to die, and he
really wanted his son. He was willing to be a
(45:17):
lead blocker for his son. If he wanted to nuke
the City. But you know, as Caleb told me later,
he wasn't really willing to do that, and it took
a year, but they got what they wanted, and that's
they have an innovative offensive mind whose success is tied
to Caleb Williams is. And you know, I think that
Caleb played well as a rookie. A rookie year is
largely about survival, and I think that, like, if I'm
(45:37):
a Chicago fan, I got to be pretty pretty bullish
right now on you know what's going to happen there,
because I think that he's going to do really, really well.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
So you think their mind has shifted because Ben Johnson
is now the coach.
Speaker 6 (45:50):
Yes, So I mean, look, the first year played out
almost exactly to Carl's fears. And I mean, you know,
I'm not hating on the Bears here. The record is
what the record is. I mean, you know, they fire
their offensive court in or the head coach, didn't even
last the season. It was almost exactly what Harrel feared
most would happen to his son. But I think they've
got it right, and I think that, like, you know, again,
(46:10):
some people are kind of down on Caleb after his
first year. I mean, I wasn't like that I saw
him make. He was incredibly tough. For one thing, he
took a lot of hits and he always got back up.
And you know, I think he made some pretty phenomenal
throws in known passing situations, laid in games when they
were down. Those are the hardest situations in the NFL.
(46:31):
And so I think that, like there's a lot to
work on going forward. I do think that it'll take
some time, Like these things are never as automatic as
we want them to be. But I do think that
having a coach like Ben Johnson, who really changed Jared
Gobb's career, I think is going to be a great
thing for Caleb Williams.
Speaker 1 (46:47):
What did you learn about Patrick Mahomes as in more
than more of the nuance of Patrick Mahomes that we
don't get to see.
Speaker 6 (46:52):
I mean, Patrick's fascinating, right because he's you know, he's
so He's come on to the scene so quickly, and
you know, as a dynasty, so quickly, even in a
way that Brady didn't. I mean, you know, Brady wasn't
throwing fifty touchdown passes his first couple of years in
the NFL that you know, He's somebody I had to
look at and it not just become because he's become
(47:13):
like such a cultural phenomenon with everyone kind of copying
his haircut, but because I wanted to know how he
managed fame, because I mean, you know, fame in twenty
twenty five is much different than fame in two thousand,
and it's much different than fame in nineteen seventy. And
you know, he he leaned into his religion a lot
(47:33):
more than I think people realize. And I think that
like the challenge for what quarterbacking has become so big
that I think that like you have to almost how
you deal with fame and the pressure of playing the position,
I think is a makeup that's almost as important as
your ability to throw the ball. To be honest with you,
(47:54):
that's how big it's gotten. And in order to keep
your performance ahead of your notary, you have to have
something that grounds you. And that from Mahomes is religion.
Like I think that it catches people a little bit
by surprise that like someone so gifted, you know, roots
so much of his how do I put it, It's
like his his awareness in religion. And you know, sometimes
(48:20):
people roll theize when they talk about religion in sports,
you know, when it came to people like him and
her cousins, I wanted to take them at face value
and at their word and actually learn about how religion
helps them navigate. Again, what's a really tricky space.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
I feel like, and a bout what you just said
there is you know, what's the cost of being a quarterback?
And what are you going to sacrifice in order to
get these great things? What are some of the costs
that maybe we don't see, but they are really having
to sacrifice in order to get to this level.
Speaker 6 (48:50):
I think that like we sort of like look at
the beautiful throw in the pressure situation and wonder how
they do that. And I think that like for them,
that's the easy part. It's everything else that comes with
it that's difficult, and how they manage that stuff I
think ends up being a huge thing. Look it is,
It is really really hard, and I think that you
(49:11):
have to study, you have to there's so much pressure
on you that I think that, like, these guys have
to create an ecosystem where they're kind of at the
center of it, and they're almost detached and separate and
isolated from reality in a lot of ways. As crazy
as that sounds, it's in that way. It's very similar
to like a politician or a pop star, whatever that
might be. They have to be at the center of
(49:32):
an ecosystem that you know, protects them and insecure. The
greater quarterbacks get, I found, the more they voll, they
volley between driving insecurity and almost like unreal confidence.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
And I think that, like.
Speaker 6 (49:50):
It's one of the things that's like Even doing that,
even making that leap to saying, well, I'm willing to
be at the center of this ecosystem and have everything
revolved around me is difficult. Like you know, I spent
a lot of time with Andrew Luck over the years,
and that as much as the injuries, if not more,
I think is what drove him out of football because
(50:12):
I don't think he liked who he was as a quarterback.
I don't think he liked it being you know, Andrew's
World twenty four to seven. I think that when he
was injured and he wasn't playing football and he had
a chance to really examine himself, he was like, I
don't like who this person is. And I think that
like he tried to do it where he was a
quarterback and trying to be a different type of person
(50:32):
and that worked for a little bit, but it really
wasn't sustainable and at the end of the day, he
kind of picked himself more than the job. And so
that's those are the things I think are just fascinating
that fans don't see. I mean, quarterback is not a
job that you play, it's something that you are.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
When you wrote this book, obviously you consume yourself with
quarterbacks of past, present, and even we'll call arch Manning
quarterback in the future. Was the through line with all
of these guys that are super sick successful.
Speaker 6 (51:00):
I think it's the willly It's the same thing that
allows the lead singer to step on a stage in
front of all these people with a microphone in front
of him.
Speaker 1 (51:09):
You know.
Speaker 6 (51:09):
I think that you just have to have you know,
call it, you know, ego, confidence, ruthlessness, whatever it is,
to step on the stage and have everyone watch you
and know that even though you won't admit it. I
think that, like there's a part of these great quarterbacks
that think that they know more really than anyone else,
and they might be kind of superior in some ways.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
And that includes you.
Speaker 6 (51:30):
Know, teammates that they really like in a door, and
even the head coach. I think that like they have
to figure out a way to again navigate this pressure.
I mean when I it's not a history of the quarterback,
but I do have historical aspects of it. And when
I went back to nineteen oh six when the forward
pass was legalized in college football, I was thinking it
was going to be like a slow build to the quarterback,
(51:53):
kind of having its lofty cultural status, and instead it
went fast. I mean, we as Americans almost seem to
notice that the spiral, you know, a forward pass was
something very unique and mystical and magical and work worth mythologizing.
And you know, even like nineteen twenty one quarterback named
(52:13):
Bo McMillan at teeny Center College in Kentucky. They go
up to Cambridge, Massachusetts, and they beat Harvard. New York
Times called it the biggest college football upset of the
first half of the twentieth century. And he returns to
Kentucky and they threw him a parade, and the governor
was there, and the governor is saying, remember this time.
You know, politicians are about as high in cultural you know,
(52:36):
job as you can possibly have. The governor is saying,
I would do anything to trade places with this guy
right now, and you know, sure enough, soon his wedding
announcement is in the New York Times and you know
he's in Hollywood with Starlits and his life really took off.
And again that was relatively early, and so I think
that like from the moment those types of things happened,
(52:57):
things just changed for quarterback. When I was doing the
book down with Steve Young and we started listing all
of the hats that a quarterback has to wear, from
mattin a idol, to field general to astonishing asshole at times,
to amateur psychologists, all these things, and we stopped at
like seventeen, and frankly, like, I think we could have
kept going. And so it's just a different job than
(53:19):
anything else that really we offered American sports, and I
think global sports too.
Speaker 1 (53:23):
The book is called American Kings, A Biography of the Quarterback,
out September ninth. You can get it on Amazon. One
question that's not super book related, I'm gonna ask about
Bill Belichick because I know you spend a lot of
time covering Bill. Yeah, what do you think his office
is like? In Chapel Hill this week, Oh my god.
Speaker 6 (53:39):
I mean, look, when when Bill Belichick loses a game,
that pain and that misery takes on it atmospheric type
of you know, presence, and you know when he's in
staff meetings, I mean, these things can go for hours
and he'll mumble at the lowest of his voice, so
(53:59):
that like every coach has to lean in and hear
him and listen to him talking about all of the
things that they did wrong and all of the things
that they have to do better.
Speaker 1 (54:08):
And so look, I think that like.
Speaker 6 (54:11):
Today, Tomorrow, Thursday are not going to be very good
days in Chapel Hill. But the thing that's interesting about Bill,
for as miserable as he can be and as hard
as he can push his assistant coaches, I mean, he's
kind of fundamentally an optimist.
Speaker 3 (54:26):
And by Friday he.
Speaker 6 (54:28):
Will change his tone and change his tune, and I
think that, like he'll be working really hard to put
his team not only in a position to win, but
to give them confidence. And I think that, like it's
one of the aspects of him that I think is
really underappreciated, and it comes from a place that's not
like Vince Lombardi or Newt Rockney. You know, it's a
(54:49):
brainier type of thing where he says, look, if you
do these things, this will put you in a decent
position to make a play that could change this game.
I mean, I thought that he was going to come
into college football, you know, coach like he was on
a war path and slap around Dabo Swinney's offense and
all these things. And I think that, like, look, there's
a big talent gap and there's a learning curve even
(55:09):
for you know, the greatest coach of the Super Bowl era.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
Seth, really appreciate the time. I hope everybody checks out
American Kings, and I love your work just generally too,
So good luck. I hope the book sells a ga
billion copies and hopefully we'll talk to you again soon.

new job. What yep? Got him?
Speaker 5 (57:17):
You know, got to make some money somehow, I thought, No,
it is for the love. I don't get paid for it.
I don't get paid for it. But on Friday's boys,
I'm gonna be busy Friday nights. I'm part of the
chain gang for the high school football.
Speaker 4 (57:34):
No way.
Speaker 1 (57:35):
Yeah, it was last minute.
Speaker 5 (57:37):
You know a buddy of mine, he's been doing it
for like two years, and I think one of their
guys got sick. I wally pipped him. I said, dude,
I'm available, I can jump in. And I did it
on Friday night, and dude, I was pretty good at it.
The only time I screwed up one time?
Speaker 1 (57:50):
Which one do you do?
Speaker 4 (57:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (57:51):
Well both, because which way are you going on the field? Well,
there's a marker holder. Yeah, I consider that part of
the chain gang. The marker holder is Doug.
Speaker 5 (58:00):
That dude's been there for forty Oh you don't take
Dougs No, no, no, Doug's been doing this for like
forty years.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
So yeah, I don't do Doug's job.
Speaker 5 (58:07):
I do either end of it. Am I the first down?
Or am I where the ball starts?
Speaker 1 (58:11):
So how'd you screw up? Uh?
Speaker 5 (58:13):
So when it was first in goal, I put the
marker on the goal line and the guy's like, throw
it on the ground.
Speaker 1 (58:19):
Oh, you don't need to because the goal line is
the marker, right.
Speaker 5 (58:22):
I didn't think about it. I just thought like, hey,
maybe they need a reference guys the goals right here.
Speaker 1 (58:26):
Yeah, Danny, so about rookie move. But that's not like bad. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (58:29):
I was thinking like you gotta like chained up, like
all like caught up, you know what I mean, And
you had to break it out and pause the.
Speaker 5 (58:34):
Game's that's a little nerve wracking because it's along the sideline.
So when you're right in front of the visitor team.
They could trip on the chain. A couple of times
they stepped on it, and I got to be like, boys,
watch the chain.
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Wait, do you do the thing where if they're coming
over you just drop everything and move away. That's what
they told me to do. Don't risk it.
Speaker 5 (58:50):
The first time, dude, there was a run that came
straight to me and I used the stick to guard it.
Speaker 1 (58:55):
I don't think that's the way it's supposed to do.
It's not because it get hurt a player. Yeah, and
the stick bent, So now we may need to get
a new stick. So in your first game, you put
the stick on the goal line. Not that bad.
Speaker 5 (59:07):
You shouldn't do that though, but you bent the stick.
I bet the stick the player hit it. Yeah, So
like the players came to me and they were and
I just kind of stuck it out.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
Like a shield, like you were blocking yourself, yeah, from
the player by using the metal run.
Speaker 5 (59:20):
Yeah, and they land them the bottom of the stick,
which then I let go of it. But by that
time they had already stepped the stick. And it's a
little warm. But they didn't teach you just if it's
coming over, drop it.
Speaker 1 (59:28):
They did. But dude, I mean it's so fast, you
can't really think that quick. Do you ever get distracted
and like you just start thinking about the things all
say like, oh God, because I think I would be
doing that. Yeah, yeah, I mean, dude, you got to
stay in it.
Speaker 5 (59:42):
I think the best part about it is that you
are in the visitors sidelines, so you're hearing everything.
Speaker 1 (59:48):
Is there a way the chain gang could cheat in
high school? Absolutely?
Speaker 5 (59:51):
How I mean, once you start realizing what green tomato
green tomato, Once you realize what green tomato means, and
when they call it, you could easily text because I
mean I have my phone out checking scores.
Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
Your check.
Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
Absolutely, that's why the player ran into the stick. Sure, yeah, dude,
I mean it's it's a it's a high school game.
Speaker 5 (01:00:11):
They're boring times, and you're just like they're never It's
like it's like third and twenty, they're never gonna get
a first down and here they come and I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:00:18):
Like, oh crap, you're watching on TikTok. Yeah. Yeah, but dude,
I think I have air pods in and he's got
air pods in over on the side watching tiktoks.
Speaker 5 (01:00:26):
I could easily text the other team and be like, yeah, dude,
they're throwing green tomato every every third tomato.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
I don't remember. It's an example, but like when you
start figuring.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Out the Connor Stallions of high school, he wears a
different dude. But it was cool, man, Like, I'm I'm
kind of excited about this. Did you get like a
little power trip a little bit? Did you wear the uniform? No? See,
that's where I screwed up.
Speaker 5 (01:00:48):
And I don't know if I messed the test, if
I missed it in the text, but I wore like
a white flower shirt and like they were all with
the chin gang wore black.
Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
And I'm like, did you know you were going to
do it going into the game. Yeah, they text me
two hours for the game and you still wore a
flowered shirt. I didn't even think about it. I thought,
you know what I thought.
Speaker 5 (01:01:07):
I thought they were gonna give me one of those
orange fluorescent bibs and they never did. So there was
with a flowered polo shirt and this is high school,
high school man, big time. It was is cool, Like
you know, there was So we were on the visitor
side and some guy comes up to me. He's like, hey, man,
so I do the chain gang for our high school.
(01:01:27):
Like you guys are doing a great job.
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Thank you, man dang respecting my chain gang, Chin Gang
respect chain gang.
Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
Do they have the digital ones at all?
Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
Yeah, that's what Doug carries. Doug carries the down okay,
and he just follows the ref like wherever the ref
says the ball is. Doug goes to the ref, hits
the all he does, hit the button and he goes one.
Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Two, three, four instead of doing the flip.
Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
And he said to do as a game changer.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Did you ever have to go on and do a
measure Uh No, I never went out on the field
to measure. Uh uh the whole game. They never called
for a measurement.
Speaker 4 (01:02:00):
Next card, they can put it right in between the football.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (01:02:03):
What's crazy is like when when the quarters, when the
quarter shift happens, Like how.
Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
Do you like?
Speaker 5 (01:02:08):
I was just kind of confused, like how do they know?
Because you got to flip through this side of the field,
but they've got to keep that same mark. And the
ref just does this thing where like he counts the links,
puts his finger on it, follow me and he goes
all the way to this side. Kind of does a
little measurement and says, put it right there.
Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
Well, you should mark it on the on the thirty
five yard line, right, Yeah, we mark it on there,
so then it's a thirty five on the other side.
Speaker 5 (01:02:31):
It's a little bit of math though, because he's got
to kind of move it exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Where it was, like within one yard, Like there are
different places you can put it inside of one yard. Yeah,
I guess he's finding that specific spot. Yeah, And we
can learn so much from you. The ref was on it.
Speaker 5 (01:02:45):
If you guys have any questions about doing the chain
gang or any kind of first down rules, like, let
me know.
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
I don't think you know them yet. Number one rule,
drop the Yeah, I would think as soon as someone's coming,
drop it. Yes, they told me that because the one
it's not getting hit holds it, which holds it into
its place. It keeps its integrity. Yeah. If both of
them drop, what you don't need both of them to
drop because they're ten yards apart. If both of them drop,
(01:03:10):
you have a chance to loseure the integrity of where
the ball is, right, Yeah, but both But I mean.
Speaker 5 (01:03:16):
The time I stuck it out, I was the first down,
so I felt like that runner needed to know where
to get to you know what I mean. I feel
like it would have been an injustice to drop the
stick a little premature before he knows where that yard
marker is.
Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
Are they doing pylons and first downs as well? No?
Just me, man, dang all that pressure. Just me. The
way to the world is on you.
Speaker 4 (01:03:34):
Are you worried about getting hurt at all? Nah, I'd
be worried about somebody rolling.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
Up on me. They did tell me that when you
have a force field a big metal pole from you,
if you didn't get hit by anything, it's not that hard, though, dude,
It's like it's like weak aluminum, I would think, so,
I hope so I thought it was like a big rod. Dude,
I'm like, oh, with a big pat on it. But
it's not. It's just like a little weak flag. It's
just an aluminum stick. How could you cheat though not
(01:04:00):
passing along information? Could you manipulate Like, let's say your
team needs another half foot if you worked on the
same page with the person who is running where the
ball started, you could have them like back up three
inches and you could slowly move yours three inches.
Speaker 5 (01:04:16):
Yeah, I thought they would check the tightness of the
chain a little more. They didn't, And there were some
times where I'd look over and like, do that change loose?
I'm probably giving these guys half a yard right now? Yeah,
so I could cheat like that, I can give them
a half a yard.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
Do you get paid? No? I did ask, but no,
no pay, no payment. It's all volunteer work. Well they
get what they get then, yeah, I do get freak
concessions though, like, oh now we're talking. Yeah, led half
time I got it was free to get in.
Speaker 5 (01:04:46):
That's good, which which they didn't believe me because I
had that flower shirt on.
Speaker 3 (01:04:49):
I was like that promise, I'm working chaining?
Speaker 4 (01:04:51):
How early did you have to show up?
Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
Just at noon? The lines he's running, he's doing runs
with the polls like int Like Kevin said, you got
to make sure that chain's not tied up. Yeah, but
you only do every other game right home, just home games. Yeah,
because the home game supplies the chain game, so basically
every other game. How many is that total? Five or something? What?
(01:05:15):
So are you bound to do it now? I like,
what if something happens on a Friday? I said, look,
put me on the list. I'm like, if you think
I did a good job. Put me in the list.
I want to do this every every home game. And
they said, all right, well what about the guy who
normally did it? He's always going to do it. Oh
well the guy how Wally Pipps.
Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
There was I'm telling you. After the game there was
no talk of that guy. You think you did such
a good job. They forgot him.
Speaker 4 (01:05:39):
I think, So did you make friends with the guys
other than there's another one though.
Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Right, there's three?
Speaker 5 (01:05:44):
Yeah, yeah, my buddy, my buddy read. Okay, so my
buddy read. I'm not read a different read. But I've
known him for like three or four years, so so
Reid and I are tight. Doug though, Doug was tough
man like. It was almost like he looked me up
and down, like, who who do you think you are? Like,
have you ever chained gang before?
Speaker 1 (01:06:02):
You to prove yourself? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
Yeah, because Doug's been doing it forever.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
Classic. Yeah, And I think Doug.
Speaker 5 (01:06:08):
I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I think Doug
was texting the updates to the newspaper.
Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
As it was going mm hmm, seems like a little
too many updates.
Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
Yeah, you know, like every time, like they'd score like oya.
Speaker 1 (01:06:18):
But they don't have anybody there like reporting probably, but
I just every time we I don't think they have
the reporting manpower to put somebody at every game.
Speaker 5 (01:06:25):
Now and what's that? What's that website? The high school
max Preps. M hm, So maybe he was just sending them.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
And they may keep it updated then so people can
check scores live like max Preps. Yeah. M m, well,
congratulations on your big gig. Thank you, dude. That's pretty
awesome moving up into sports world. Ok, many, it's pretty cool.
Do you ever think it'd be fun to be a referee?
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:06:43):
Like that would be cool, right, it's a lot of school.
I would only want to be a referee on the biggest,
biggest of levels. When that doesn't work, it doesn't work
like that. It's like you said, I want only a
Major League baseball player. No, No, you got to go
through rookie ball, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:06:55):
So, I don't know, dude. Rest seems like such a
stressful position. Like you said, you can't daydream at all.
You don't think being a ref the NFL would be fun?
Like getting to be in it, see it, hear it,
you know all the insides I think it would be
fun until they're like, Eddie, what is it, and I'd
be like, guys, it could go with Eddie.
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
Runs off runs in the tunnel like Forrest Gump, Like
it's it's.
Speaker 5 (01:07:16):
Hard because I know there was this one play on
Friday Night when when there was a holding right and
it was like holding on on an offensive line was
holding and then the coach was yelling the holding was
right in front of you, and then the ref looks
of the coach like I only have two eyes. I
was looking at the runner, you know, and it's like, well,
it's still your job, but I'm thinking, like that's tough.
(01:07:39):
Everyone's just like the holding was right there, but you're like, dude,
I was looking at the ball and not the hold.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
So you don't think it'd be cool to be NFL MLB, No, No,
I think it too stressful. Man. Oh, I think that
would be so cool. I think it'd be fun to
like go to school to do that, Mike, you think
be fun?
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
I think that would be awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:07:54):
I wouldn't talk to the coaches, can't. Yeah, why'd this
guy even.
Speaker 5 (01:07:59):
Like but even like you know, you watch the college games,
like their coaches are always just like talking to the
ref So you got to like somehow humor them.
Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
Yeah, it's a relationship. I guess you got. I wouldn't
just ignore them. Yeah, I ignore them completely all time
doing my job. I think they have specific ones on
the sideline judges who are there to actually communicate with
the coaches. That job becomes. Yeah, that would suck, especially
when you get somebody that just like Bob Petrino used
to just bite heads off. Nick Saban used to bite
heads off. So it's fun.
Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
Congratulations that was a weather guy when I was when
I worked the news, he would work Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
He was a ref on Friday night. Jim Spencer, Oh, Jim.
Speaker 5 (01:08:35):
He was a weather man by day, by the during
the week, and then Friday night's he's a ref.
Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
That's awesome, that's cool. Kevin had a he says one
of the top three moments of his life. Eddie, do
you want to guess what it is before we tell
you three moments? He said he had a top three
moment in his life. Happened?
Speaker 5 (01:08:52):
Is this one of the influence? Is it an influencer deal? Like,
what did you get like ten thousands or something?
Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
Happen? I did see your new drink station. Yeah, influence video. Nohow,
thank you. I thought you already did drink station. No
he does. I'm at the drink station right. Oh it's
oh it's a drink station.
Speaker 4 (01:09:06):
It doesn't have anything to do with drink station.
Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
No, but I saw that.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
Okay, yeah, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
Yeah, so it's not that something with the Patriots. I
don't know. You get three guesses? He had a top
three life moment. How well do you know him? Well?
Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
I know Kevin pretty well. Top three life moment. You
just had babies, you recently got married. So then this
is going to be the third. I'm gonna say, you
got uh invited to do something with the Celtics guest one, yeah,
or the Patriots guess too, that can be guest one.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Okay, gosh, I don't know. I mean, what else is
this dude?
Speaker 4 (01:09:47):
Like I thought, you know me?
Speaker 1 (01:09:50):
I do? I do? You're a Patriots fan? Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Are you going to Boston for a vacation.
Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
It's guests too too. Course, everything if he's going hasn't
actually happened.
Speaker 4 (01:10:06):
It already happened.
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
It already happened. It already happened. Did you post about it? No?
But I saw a post that was yeah, it was adjacent. Yeah,
he got an autograph Tom Brady ball or something. Oh
that had been cool.
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
I would have posted that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Well maybe not. It has to do with golf. You
got a hole in one.
Speaker 5 (01:10:30):
Number one, your kids and okay, golf, he's gonna it
already happened.
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Did you play like a cool course? Where did you
guys play?
Speaker 4 (01:10:41):
Cedar Crest Murphy's Okay, played that one.
Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
I don't even know that one.
Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
Honestly, it was a good course though. It was a
cool course.
Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
Okay, he got an eagle. Oh that had been pretty cool. Okay,
so you're you're sitting the bar so high. That's the
way he got a birdie. He got his first birdie.
Speaker 4 (01:10:59):
Guesses, baby's first.
Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
You can go ahead.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
I had a drive as straight as can be over
three hundred yards.
Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
I mean, okay, okay, dude, you know that feeling, Hey,
what's your what's your tone about?
Speaker 4 (01:11:16):
You know that feeling you're not even pumped for me?
Speaker 1 (01:11:18):
What's your tone? He had a tone. I'm curious to
know your tone.
Speaker 5 (01:11:21):
Yeah, he didn't care for three hundred yards. Okay, Like,
good job, good job. It's probably gonna happen again. If
you did it once.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
See, I feel like he's downplaying it downhill when I'm
glad you, I'm glad you weren't there because everyone else
was stoked.
Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
We haven't had rain, and like, no, what were the
factors I'm asking you?
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Oh yeah, no, it was just no downhill. No, maybe
a little bit of whin. I think some cross wind
was coming actually okay, yeah, and then it went right
through over the there's a tree line that came out
like halfway through the fairway, boom over the trees, tall trees,
and then right over it's like three hundred eight yards
straight as can be.
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
I mean, I've never done it. I don't I may
I think in the history of your golf. Probably hit
a car path something kept rolling. Oh that's a good point.
But a legit three hundred yard drive that this is legit,
that's not in my arsenal.
Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
It was my best day of driving by far all around.
All around. Yeah, I only had like four bad drives
probably wow. Yeah, and I had like five, I had
four really good ones in a row, and that was
the best one.
Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
So, as you said, you went over trees, So was
this kind of just like you had to go that way?
Speaker 4 (01:12:26):
If you were gonna Yeah, it was either like you know,
hit to the right of the trees a little bit
and go around, or just go straight over the trees.
To be honest with you, I was just hitting it
and it went over the trees. I did not expect
to do that, but it went right over the trees.
I mean it was a monster shot.
Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
I will say that Kevin's drive, I mean he them
play very well.
Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
But the driver he struggled with the driver, I.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
Do was there a reason taking a shot out? I know,
I know, I think. So what does he normally shoot?
In your opinion?
Speaker 3 (01:12:53):
Over one hundred one ten around?
Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
No off that high?
Speaker 5 (01:12:57):
Okay, one one oh five, one on one may yeah,
I mean it's over one hundred okay, sure, And so
I've played with Kevin and the drivers left right straight.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
I always slice it. Yesterday when we played it was
it was on dude on. I've never seen it like.
Speaker 1 (01:13:13):
This, So I guess this is cool for him. It's
the start of something.
Speaker 4 (01:13:16):
It's so much more fun when you can drive.
Speaker 1 (01:13:18):
For you, yeah, it is, Yeah, that's true. Well, congratulations,
what do you think do? What do you think about? What?
What's the question you're asked? Three hundred and whatever yard drive. Okay,
I think he's an athletic guy. If he's having a
good day driving and he's swinging really hard.
Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Sure, it's just a great feeling, you guys know when
you get ahold of it.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
Yeah, it is a great feeling. I thought you had,
like an eager I think I don't only think it's
a top three moment for you though, I mean at
the time, Yeah, I think it's probably a top seventy
seven hundred moments for you.
Speaker 4 (01:13:50):
Yeah, somewhere in there between three and seven hundred.
Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
How much golf do you play? We haven't played a week.
How much do I play?
Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
I've only played twice this year. That was on my
second time.
Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
And how did that round get together?
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
I have family in town, my brother.
Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
I thought you were with Ray. Huh uh did you
not play golf with Ray? No at all.
Speaker 4 (01:14:08):
No, I haven't played with Ray like two years.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
See something. Maybe Ray and Pitts were playing golf together.
Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
Oh, well, I played with Pitts my brother. My brother
doesn't look like oh is my brother and dad?
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
Maybe it was that I saw a picture of you
guys playing golf.
Speaker 4 (01:14:20):
Yeah, yeah, Pitts, my brother and my dad.
Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
How does that round get together?
Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
My dad and brother in town and we're like, we
got to play around in golf. We had a nice
Sunday and then Pitts plays a lot of golf, so
I was like, you want to come with it?
Speaker 1 (01:14:30):
He was our fourth. How hard is it to get
on that course day of or day before? I booked
it a week in events, so that's why I was
packed up there.
Speaker 4 (01:14:37):
It was. It wasn't that bad. We had okay, we
actually had this guy's this group behind us right. This
guy hit into the opposite fairway and then we were
waiting to hit for him to hit up, and he
hit up and he had another really bad shot. Dude,
this guy threw him. I'm not kidding. He happy gilmour
his club back to his car. He threw it at
his cart from like twenty yards away. I've never seen
(01:14:57):
somebody that mad.
Speaker 3 (01:14:58):
I don't get that.
Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
The weirdest part about people to throw clubs is they
usually aren't good golfers anyway, so you don't expect to
How can you expect to be good when you aren't
good anyway?
Speaker 4 (01:15:06):
And then the next hole they hit up on us.
Speaker 1 (01:15:08):
Like I can understand if you were a pro golfer
and you wanted to throw clubs because you probably don't
hit that many bad so when you do, it's a
shock to your system. So what do you do when
you're shocked? You throw a club. But like Lunchbox, he's
not a great golfer. No, he throws his clubs. It's like,
what do you expect? You always suck?
Speaker 4 (01:15:24):
Right, Yeah, Like I would never throw my clubs because
I'm like, what do I expect?
Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
Well? And then plus they're expensive. Yeah, that's like you're
throwing money. I know, you're damaging money.
Speaker 4 (01:15:32):
That's what I thought. I was like, dude, you're not
getting free ones if you break that one, you're not sponsor.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
You're not sponsored by how bad you are. So this
guy hit on you, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
Yeah, and then the next hole he hit on us.
I think we think he was so mad that he
was playing so bad, and then he hit up on
us on the next hole. I'm not kidding, like five
feet behind my brother we were walking off the green.
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
Was it the same hole though? Did he hit three
hundred yards too?
Speaker 1 (01:15:54):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
No, he couldn't do it.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Yeah, I don't know if it's just the hole maybe,
And he did it.
Speaker 4 (01:16:03):
So get this. He did it right in front of
the Marshall, literally sitting on that hole watching all of us.
He did it right in front of the Marshall and
so we turned around like hey, what the f blah
blah blah, you know, and then the Marshall came up
and he's like I saw that happen, Like I'll talk
to him, like okay, like come on man, we look back.
He literally has his arms around the guy. It's like
the Marshall knows the guy. We're like, okay, well what
do we do?
Speaker 1 (01:16:22):
And plus the marshals like what are eighty years old?
Speaker 4 (01:16:24):
He would yeah, but it's like what do we Like?
We were pissed, but then we were having such a
good time. We don't want to throw in our moods.
So then the next hole we just kind of sped
up and then we never had any problems after that.
I get triggered and people hit on me, yes that
we were all true. I mean we were having such
a good time seven holes in and then got triggered.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Yeah, pissed. I worked on a golf course and so
it did maintenance on a golf course, so people were
hitting on me. Is a little traumatic the workers would
just get tagged with balls and so without anybody even
because we had to water our green specific if he
got really hot because there was on hydration what's the
(01:17:01):
word with the water system, irrigation, thank you the irrigation system.
Ninety five percent of the time. Let's they got really
hot and it couldn't keep up. So we had to
go out real quick, stop it, going to golf cart,
plug it in and spray the greens of the water.
And obviously we're on the green right with the hoes
on the green, and they would still hit on us.
I saw guys heads get whacked like cut.
Speaker 4 (01:17:22):
They would even like make sure you're looking at them
or something.
Speaker 1 (01:17:25):
And like the foot, you got hit the foot and
like the foot, or I'd be like weed eating or
something on the side and people would hit. So I
have a little PTSD with getting hit with the golf balls.
But once we were all playing in Austin and it
was me, Eddie, a couple of our friends at my course,
and these guys kept hitting on us, and so we
got up to this hole and they hit on us
again and it was like four and so I'm pissed.
(01:17:47):
So I'm like all right. If this, if I have
to fight, I guess I will. I don't want to.
I'm not a fighter, but I'm gonna have some words
because I'm pissed. And so they're coming at me and
I'm I'm standing there and I got my boy behind me,
and I'm like, well, we're gonna fight. I guess we'll fight.
And they're coming and I'm like, you guys got to
stop it. And I look back and my boy's driven
off and left me. Oh no, Bobby was all alone,
(01:18:09):
no clubs, no boy, what the heck? He's like two
hundred yards down in the golf dry and I'm like,
oh my god, I'm about to get whooped by four dudes. Yeah,
because talking crap on a golf course is cool when
you have a foursome. Yeah you got in your hands,
yeah yeah, yeah, you got back up and you got clubs.
And I didn't need all four people. I just needed
(01:18:30):
at least one with some clubs. Yeah, because I was
having a word. And I look back from my sipo,
Oh my god, Well sorry all alone, you guys have
a good day.
Speaker 4 (01:18:39):
The first thing I thought about was that hockey guy
that just put that dude. I was like, I'm going
to be that guy today that gets whooped. No, no, no,
the hockey guy one hockey.
Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
You're gonna be the whooper.
Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
Yeah, the whooper.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
Well, congratulations on your top three months. Thank you? You
mean no?
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
That's awesome, man, that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:18:58):
Enjoyed football, everybody go Cowboys tonight?
Speaker 3 (01:19:02):
Cowboys?
Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
Are you betting? Yeah? Did you already bet it while
I said that?
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
Or you can do it later.
Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
