Speaker 1 (00:05):
Lots to Say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle is
a production of the NFL and iHeart Podcasts.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
We Got lots.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Just say.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
We got lost, just saved.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
We're better here and we hope you say because we.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Got lost, Just say yeah, we got lost.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Just say.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Here's Bobby. That's so buddy. What's all, Buddy? It's a Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
No, it's a Wednesday. When the show comes out. Oh
that's what I meant.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah, we did this Tuesday, so you confuse everybody already listening. Sorry,
we record this late Tuesday afternoon, so you have to
be like, it's Wednesday. We won't edit that out, So
don't edit it out. Do that again, but say it's
a Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It's a Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
That it is. I love it.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
I a couple of things. I do want to get
to the golf trip that you totally missed out on.
That was freaking awesome?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Was it incredible? Because I went and looked online as
one looked at all the pictures. I'm sitting there, I'm
looking at your Instagram feed, just ruling going. How about that?
Part three? A big winner in nineteenth hole.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
A plus, A plus A plus all the way around?
What I want to do first, I am wearing a
Pains Valley hat from there you are and looks great.
You have a little something on yourself a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Yeah, never been there, but my brother, thank you so
much birthday present gift.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
So, speaking of hats, I do want to start this
show with something we've been talking about over the past
maybe two months. I grew up not having a favorite
NFL team. Like love the NFL and fantasy football makes
you care about every NFL team. True, but being in Arkansas,
we didn't have a team, and the Cowboys were everybody's teams.
(01:44):
The Cowboys weren't my team because they were everybody's team,
got it, and also they were so good. I refuse
to jump on a team that's already good.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
I kind of lucked into it. My dad was from
As I told you, Texas. You didn't jump, No, I
didn't jump. You were brought in, brought in naturally for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
So I have whittled it down to four teams.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yes you really.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I'm pretty rest by this. And I have four hats.
Four hats, let's see which one looks best on you.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
So I don't have my one team yet, but I
have the four teams that I'm going to be a
massive fan of.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
And I think what that means this year.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Is I'm gonna follow, I'm gonna promote, We'll go to
a game.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Are we going to be the coach? I love this.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
I'm just going to be hyper invested into this team
I have chosen, and I haven't chosen the one, but
I have chosen whomever this is purposefully with intent, and
there gonna be a team all year.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
And I'm guessing this is not a team that's already there.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Who knows, because I know you. I can't jump on.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
The bandwagon for a team that's already good. So it's
not going to be the Eagles. It won't be Kansas City,
won't be probably Buffalo. I'm interested and intrigued by this.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
If you had to pick a team or two, who
would you think I'll pull out of.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
The Jacksonville potentially, maybe Tampa Bay even though they won
a Super Bowl few years ago, but still Tom Brady's going, yeah,
let's see those two are fine, Yeah, Arizona potentially.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Okay, the solid picks, all right, I don't know the
order of these hats are on my hand, So I'm
just gonna go first. The first hat that I.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
I feel like you're kind of at the you know,
when they're announcing the college kids are announcing their school
and they've got all the hats up there, and I
put one on. I'm going to go No, I'm not,
I'm gonna go to Clemson. I'm gonna go to a
house DA.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
And then I ripped my jersey and it's neither none
of the hats.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Hats, and you just completely blew up all the coaches
that recruited you. The first hat I'm gonna put on. Ooh,
the Dallas Cowboys. The Dallas Cowboys. So I kind of
like it. It's close to Arkansas. I mean, a lot
of my friends are massive fans. They haven't won since
the nineties.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
They have been a yeah, a perennial good team, not
meet expectations. I won't say loser, but because they've made
the playoffs and had some winning records, but they have
not met their expectations for I don't know, twenty.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Five years, five years. And this is a chance for
you to now be part of the team in an
organization that might take it to the next level this year.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
And Jerry Jones was super cool to us, took us
up in his chopper.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Let us sit in a Swede. I did not get
that experience. Yes, sir, he did fly your family down.
Though he did. That was clutch. I love Jerry Jones
for that forever.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
So Dallas Cowboys solid, Kevin. How do you feel about
the Cowboys? If I were to select the Cowboys?
Speaker 4 (04:28):
I think it's kind of a cop out, not gonna
lie just because it's a team.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Wow, but they suck.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Twenty five years and the Cowboys suck. A lot of
his friends love them.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Yeah, I know. Maybe that's why because I'm already surrounded
by it so much, and there's so many fans. It's
like being a Steelers fan.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
What if I pulled out a Patriots hat then yeah,
come on, yes, of course he would. He's a massive
patch come on.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
But America, I mean Dallas is like they are known
as America's teams. I just feel like that's like, you know,
it's everyone's team.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
I feel like also asking it from a guy from
Boston who believes that his team for the last twenty
has been America's team.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yeah, and I mean the Patriots.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
I know it's pretty apropos. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
The only people that call Dallas America's team are Cowboys fans.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Let's be fair.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
Nobody that's not a Cowboys fan is like America's team,
the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
True, I do kind of feel like you're a You're
a bit of a hidden Cowboy fan, though.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
I am a fan of people who are nice to me, fair,
and that organization has been super kind to me. I've
gone above and beyond in many ways, so even' I've
bet a thousand bucks on them to win the Super
Bowl as the season started last year because the odds
were good, like.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Fourteen thousand dollars or something like that. It's not a bet.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
I didn't win, So it's a bad bet. But at
the time, yes, the time. At the time, yes, it
had potential. How do I look in the colors?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
You look great. Yeah, you can't go wrong with the
Dallas Cowboys. Just overall, that's cool uniform hat.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Our guy Brandon over here is a massive Cowboys fan,
grew up in Texas. Would you like me to be
a Cowboys fan?
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Iand all right, he understands if I don't go with
the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Very nice. Okay, this is hat number Okay, hat number one.
I like it.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Cowboys Star the Star. All right, let's go to choice
number two. Hat number two. Now, don't look while I
put it on. Okay, okay, good, good good. Hat number
two is now on Minnesota Vikings. Let's go Kevin. Oh, now,
how would I be as a Minnesota Vikings fan?
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Oh, dude, skull Viking, that's all you have to do?
So great.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
Yeah, that's what I like about that. It's very similar
to being from Arkansas. We have a chant and we
have a mascot that nobody else has.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
We have picks.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
People like that's so weird, but we're the only one
that has it. It's so different, you know. Same thing
with the Vikings.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Oh, it's pretty unique. When you go to that game
and like I said, the Viking comes out of the
tunnel on the Harley Davidson. You might even have to
get a Harley Davidson. That happens, I dud they so
as you start, as you the teams get called out,
they and then they roll out. The Viking rolls out
on a big Harley Davidson. It's badass. The pro to
(07:15):
being a Vikings fan is it's been a while, it
has and they're a really good team. They've got a
great coach, and they've got tremendous.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Upside, tremendous. Now, do they have a rookie quarterback? Absolutely?
I like that because it's not yelling for sure this
is a top team this year.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
No, but justin Jefferson Addison, all the different weapons that
they have, I mean, they're going to be pretty good. Now.
If JJ he's the outlier, he's the guy that you
have to discover whether or not he can play. But
if he's anything what they thought he was going to become,
they'll be a really good football team.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
The Con is pretty far, and the Con is cold weather.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
The Pro is Dome, but it's only an hour fight
from here, right dome. No, it's a dome. Dome in
Minnesota is actually a really cool city and they've got
all the walkways you can walk around the city. Give
me Minneapolis, Minneapolis. What did I say Minnesota was a
cool city? I got it, I got it, you got it?
You know what I'm saying. Yeah, we're talking about the Vikings.
So how do we feel about the Vikings? I love
that one. Why do you love that one? Kevin?
Speaker 4 (08:17):
I mean, first of all, head coach Kevin O'Connell, what up.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
He's ome, you.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Know, ex patriot, and I just I've always been like
a hidden fan of the Vikings. I think it's because
Randy Moss was my first, like favorite NFL player, so
I've always road it for him. And I think you
look good in purple, I know.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
And I think I like just the Midwest attitude because
it's very similar, like the hard working, blue collar go
to work, but have a high octen offense. It's the
opposite of blue collar.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
But other than that, we're gonna spread around the yard.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Okay, okay, that's that's er two. I've got two solid
picks up this point. All right, eyes closed. Number three
is going on now, do not look all right? Number
three is on.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
The Denver Broncos.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Let's go the Denver Bronco goes. Now, why would this
be appealing? Why do you think it'd be good to
be a Broncos fan?
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Now, well, Colorado's fantastic. I do like bon Knicks and
what he brings to the table. I think under Sean
Payton and what they did last year for with a
rookie quarterback to go out there go to the playoffs. Look,
they lost to the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo Bills was a
powerhouse last year, but they're building something there and they've
got a rookie quarterback still on a rookie contract for
(09:31):
the next three years, which means they can add a
lot of pieces around around Bonnicks. I think they're going
to be good.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Do you feel like if I were a Broncos fan
that would match my personality for what I'm looking for.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yes, because they're a team that has great history but
still hasn't got it done in a long time, but
a team that has a lot of promise. And at
the same time, have you ever been to a game
at Broncos Stadium?
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Not, but it's outside. That's what it's most scary.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
It's awesome. It is. It's awesome, and those fans rage.
They love their team, so when they're good, it's pretty
lively environment. Kevin, your thoughts, Yeah, I don't love it.
Speaker 4 (10:07):
I'm not gonna lie. The hats cool though, Why you.
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Don't This is an old school logo for those not
watching just listening, This is the old school the d
logo with the horse through it.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Yeah, that's cool.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Why why don't you love it? As me as a
Broncos fan.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
I think as a Patriots fan, as I always speak from.
They've given us trouble in the years.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
Okay, I don't care about the Patriots. I know everything.
That is how the Patriots.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah, I'm asking how you as a human feel about
me being a fan of this team as a human
that's yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I could see that fit. It looks like a good fit.
The colors look good, and you seem like the Broncos guy.
Because because Denver just seems like a city where it's
kind of a hidden gem. It's very clean, doesn't go
crazy over there, kind of like you. You know, you
don't drink, you don't do anything crazy, but you look
at the past and you look at the accomplishments and
the quarterbacks and all the history, and you're like, dang, in.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
A weekend, yeah, we can trip out there. Good golf courses,
then maybe get up to asp and maybe a little
get away with the wife. Make it all make sense.
I've never been skiing before. Oh have you I went once?
I used to snowboard in high school before I thought,
oh gosh, I don't want to hurt myself. And then
two years ago we took the kids for the first time,
and all the kids are getting on their skis. They're
getting ready to get the instructor of the instructor to
(11:20):
come out and show them how to do. I'm the
only guy there with us. I was going to snowboard.
I'm like, I've snowboard before. And then I get there,
I'm like, what am I doing? I get on skis
greatest thing ever really, oh so much easier to get
off the lift. I mean because normally you're unstrapped in
the boot when you're coming off on a snowboard. Here,
you got both feet in. You just kind of get off,
you glide, and as soon as you learn how to
(11:42):
just do this, your golden kids rage. It's awesome. I'm
just a freight.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
I would tear ACLS, MCLs, PCLS, GCLs LCLS anything that
that's my studio as an adult man.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
Well, I mean, you're not going to go down and
hit like the double Black Diamond or anything. No, I'm
planning to start with that. You know, you know what,
just full on, helmet on, let's go, parachute, full body armor, like,
let's get it. Okay, let's get stucky. Good, it looks
good on you. Okay, yeah, one more. It is cold
there though it is cold.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yeah, all right, last one, eyes closed, but a boom
and for the final reveal, let's go.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
You're up the Carolina Panther's baby, Bryce Young, your believer,
I'm asking you. I mean, it's close. I know that
I'm not a firm believer that they're there yet, but
I can see you being a Carolina Panther fan.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
I don't need him to be there yet. I just
need whomever the team is to know where there is, like,
they to know that there is a way to get
to a certain point. I needed them to own a GPS.
I don't care if they get there on their road
trip tomorrow. I just need them to have a GPS.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Well, I'm super encouraged by what you saw with Bryce
Young last year because obviously he went through his struggle
as he got Ben and he went back in but
played so much better. And it was just that moment
in time where sometimes young quarterbacks go through it. He's
played to the level that they thought he was going
to play. And if he comes along and starts to
perform like he did in college, this team could be
(13:09):
in a really good position, especially in that division, to compete.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Kah, Yeah, I mean Panthers are cool, but I just don't.
I don't see you as a Panthers guy. I think
they're just kind of boring. They're everyone kind of likes
the team, and I think that's boring to you.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
And also, do you think everybody what likes them?
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Like no one really has any like hard feelings towards
the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
I don't think anybody likes them, but I think nobody
hates them. And I think that people having no interest
is worse than people having a bad interest exactly.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Well. I think part of it too is they haven't
been one of those teams that frequently have won, so
nobody nobody hates them because they're not They're never threatened.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
By them, exactly.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
I wish people hated Arkansas, but we're not good enough
people to hate this. Yeah, if you don't like us,
they don't hate us.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
See, I think they're just too boring for for you.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Huh. Yeah. And I don't know if their fan bases
is dedicated to some of these other fan bases that
we just talked about.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
Pounded baby? Hows that sound if I say that just
like that?
Speaker 3 (14:01):
Is that what they say? Pound it? Pound?
Speaker 4 (14:03):
It'll say baby but they do say fast.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
So those are the four teams that it's going to
be one. So if you had to pick one, though,
based on what you know about me and those four teams,
I'm not holding it to it because you can change
it whenever we come back and announce it.
Speaker 3 (14:20):
I think you're leaning toward Dallas one. You've got a
relationship with the owner, They treat you well, You've got
a lot of friends, and like you said, growing Up
is probably the closest franchise to you that you had
any affiliation with. So I think you're leaning toward Dallas.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
Kevin, Yeah, I'm gonna go Minnesota still. I think we
had some connections with them in the past. We haven't
really gone through, but maybe this will be the last
leap and get you to finally make that final leap
of being a fan with the Vikings. We've had Kevin
O'Connell in here before obviously.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
Yeah, one Cowboy, one Viking. Brandon from the side, just
throw your team out there.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
Who is it?
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Viking? So we got two Vikings, we got one Cowboy.
Now I'm ninety five percent you already know who it is.
I'm not going to change it based on what you
guys have said here today. Next week I'll be able
to reveal who it is. This is fun, this is
fun game. I can't wait to bring my hats next week.
You only get to wear like three or four anyway, Patriot.
You have to be a Patriot, are chief? Yeah that's
(15:17):
exactly yeah, that's exactly right.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
I was. I mean in Minnesota for two years. That
was great. Yeah, we don't know you from that though, No, no, no,
a lot of people do. We want you to wear
a hat.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
That's like when a mom has two sons on opposing
teams in the jerseys cut in half and they do.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
But we want you to have that hat.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Chief Patriot, Patriot, Chatriot, Patriot.
Speaker 3 (15:38):
That's the dinner item for tonight. Patriots.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
We'll have a chatriot please. Okay, there we go. So
next week I'll be able to tell you that. I
thought it'd be fun if we did a goats from
each team through history.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
We don't have to do every team today, but.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
We could do some of them, and I thought we'd
just go alphabetical and.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
Do hopefully you've written all these don teams. I do, yeah,
I have them alphabetical order.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Now I've spent no time thinking about any of them,
except for the one we talked about which was first
up outphabetically, which was Arizona, which we talked about it
before we came on.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
So I haven't known the research, but I think it's
the best place to come from.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
Yes, it's the best pace. And I haven't either because
I literally, well when I texted you were were going
to do this, I just thought of it. I like it,
so about the same time. Yeah, about the same time.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
Okay, let's go goat of the Arizona Cardinals. We'll take
turns of going first.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
Okay, there's two that come to mind, both offensive players,
but I have to go with Larry Fitzgerald. Me too.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
I mean, he's I was really he is.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I was drawn to Kurt Warner at first, but that
was too, but he was only he was there for
a significant period of time, but not I mean what
Larry play eighteen years?
Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah, and I think quarterback is often where our brains
go because that's the face of the franchise for sure.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
So we agree, we agree. I mean, it's it's hard
to argue that.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
One Falcons, Atlanta Falcons, we're standing.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
In the a's how long was Dion there for I
don't have the answer to your question because I didn't
research this. Kevin.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
I bet Kevin could tell us, But now you're gonna lean.
I don't think I would Michael Vick.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
I mean, Michael Vick is legendary obviously, Okay, I know
who I have? You know who you have? Yeah? I have?
Do you have? You have yours? Locked in?
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Because I don't want to change in each other's minds.
We can agree we were wrong, but I don't want
to change in each other's minds.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
All right? For me, the first thing that comes to
mind is Michael Vick. I have Matt Ryan. Oh good call.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
I think both though, are arguably correct, because Matt Ryan
won more. Michael Vick brought more eyeballs to the team.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
Right. He's such a polarizing figure and when he came in,
he played the position unlike any other quarterback to ever
play the position, and just his skill set and elite
athleticism was just remarkable to watch. And I don't know
why I'm fighting for yours that you just fight for mine? Yeah,
now fight for yours?
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Yeah? No, I just think I mean, other than losing
this twenty to three.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
Oh my gosh, I can't believe he wanted to be two. Yeah, yeah,
he's an absolutely.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
But I definitely if someone argued Mike Vic, I can't
say you're wrong because he brought more eyeballs. I mean,
he was the guy that TV commercials wanted, right, Matt
Ryan really wasn't.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
He was a different type of personality. But you talk
about a professional in every sense of the world word
and a guy that could come out and perform on Sundays.
Matt Ryan was as consistent of a quarterback in the
NFL as anybody.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
Let's go to be's Baltimore the Ravens.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Oh, Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Right, I'm gonna write my down that you're going first.
I'm torn between two.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
I got one problem. I mean, it's there's two guys
I think of, and I think that you're going to
lean one way. I'm going to go with Ed Reid.
Ed Reid is my second. But we had I said
to yeah, ray Lewis ed Red that defense? Was it
the two thousand and one Ravens or two thousand Ravens
(19:11):
with the best defense ever? You mean the Trent Delpah Ravens,
Trent del for Ravens Hey, they were an offensive juggernaut,
but that defense was real.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Did you play against Ray?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
I sure did and Ed and they were as advertised.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
I remember you telling us about Ed and how advanced
he was.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
But what was ray Lewis like?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Not to play against but to look across because that's
what I think of, Like how he must have been
so intimidating. But again that's just television talking to me.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
No, But it's the intensity of which he played the game,
and every time you looked across the line of scrimmage,
he was He was the guy that was making calls,
calling everything out, getting the defense set. But his eyes
when you looked at him, he'd like stare through your
soul and it was one of those that you knew
that you'd have to bring your egg game. And then
he also was a savvy guy. He's known for coming
up and making the big hits, but when he dropped
(20:00):
into pass protection, he tried to bait. He tried to
act like he's going well a way but fall back in.
He was just an all around outstanding player. But in
addition to that, it was his leadership qualities that you
saw every single game and the intensity in which he
played the game made him special.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
Do you think, and this has meant completely complementary that
his cartoon like attributes, meaning when he comes out and
he does the stomp coming out of the tunnel and
ray lewis behind the line, do you think that overshadowed
how smart of a player he was because he was
just seen as a big brute guy who does the
big cartoon like movements.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
I don't believe. So if anybody ever played against him,
or you can speak to probably any of his teammates,
they'd say that that guy brought it each and every day.
And while there's the antics of when he'd come out,
but that kind of set the tone for the entire
team because when you're on defense, your mentality is to
go up and deliver violence, and so you've got to
come out with a certain energy and he was the
(20:56):
aura of that defense right the way that he played
the game. And it started as soon as they did introductions,
you knew, okay, we're playing Baltimore today. I always remember
getting ready for Baltimore and you're like, gosh, they don't
have a lot of holes. They're very sophisticated in how
they're in complex and the different looks that they give you,
and the different schemes and the personnel units, so you
always had to be ready for that. But in addition
(21:19):
to that, they had the players to back it up,
which made it even more intimidating. So he was a
real cerebral player for sure. He'd see things, call things out,
probably not to the extent of like a Luke Keegley
who we've talked about before, but at the same time,
he was a guy that played so much football that
he'd recognize formation and be able to watch the film
(21:40):
and understand what we're trying to get accomplished.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Jim Kelly. See, I would have went
Bruce Smith.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Not Ay, he's right up there.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
I think we go quarterback and Kelly Dillleyham before Super
Bowls with Bruce Smith also was one of the most
dominant defensive players possibly ever. But I would have gone
Bruce Smith. You could convince me it was Jim Kelly though.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Yeah. And Thurman Thomas too on that team, I mean,
was a legendary running back in an absolute stud as well.
But I'd have to go with Jim Kelly because even
when you go back there and when I was playing
one of the things that make me think Jim Kelly
is so after the game. He was like an ambassador.
He'd come to the game, sign autographs, do all that,
and so we'd come into the tunnel and he'd have
a bunch of paps, blue ribbons, a bunch of beers
(22:26):
waiting for the quarterbacks and we go out and he'd
spend twenty five thirty minutes telling old.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Stories with the quarterbacks of the other team.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
From the other team, like Bray, Well, let's be honest,
he didn't want to hang out with me if you
want to hang out with Brady. But at the end
of the day, he was a guy that was just
so cool and authentic and real. And even when I
got to Buffalo, one of the cool parts was he
brought all the quarterbacks over to his place because he
still lived there, and we went out and shot skeet
and he had a big barbecue, brought a bunch of
(22:55):
people over, and he's just one of those really incredible
ambassadors of the game that's cool to hear. Let's do
three more.
Speaker 1 (23:03):
The not alive for long and compared to the other
teams and possibly my favorite new team, the Carolina Panthers, gosh.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
Well I have mine, I know. Are you going quarterback? Yeah?
Mark Burnell. Mark Burnell was more of a jack as
a Jaguar. Well, who are we talking about? Panthers? Sorry,
I take that all back.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
They do it.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
They did exist at the same time. Yeah. Oh uh
Dell home. Oh I'm going Cam Newton. Oh yeah, what
am I talking about? Cam Newton's for sure the figure
that I'm sorry I started.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
He went to a Super Bowl though, Cam Newton did.
Speaker 3 (23:40):
Huh yeah, yeah, I'm definitely going Cam Newton. Okay, I
flipped on that one. Yeah. Sorry, I was all over
the map there.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
Sorry everybody. The Bears Bears. Oh but Gus interesting, That's
not who I would go with. But I could be convinced.
It's just weird to compare offensive defense. And it's also
weird to compare eras because it's like how the NBA
always fight.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
It's over who was better.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Mostly you just have to compare eras with people in
them versus the people in them.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
Yeah, Walter Payton, that's who I have. Yeah. Walter Payton's
all time great for sure, absolutely incredible, and also watching
those videos of him running the hills in the off season,
doing all that stuff that he did. He's was a special,
special player. So yeah, Walter Payton.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
I was listening to Jeff Pearlman, who wrote a book
on Walter Payton, talk about Walter Payton and how he
would take the soles out of his shoes and play
with soulless shoes because he felt like he could feel
the ground better and that it was a little painful obviously,
but he felt like he could feel the ground so
much better and helped him cut, move, run, jump that
he played soulless and then run through people, yeah yeah,
(24:47):
or round or around them. Finally, Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
There's about five here that I feel like we could
go with because I feel like, in my opinion, my
humble opinion.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Cincinnati doesn't have it.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
A a guy true, So I think we should talk
this one out as their final one. Okay, well, I
think you have to put Boomer Boomer. I think you
have to put Burrow in there. Boomer went to two
Super Bowls, so Boomer over Burrow. But Burrow is way
more dynamic. But again, we're comparing eras that's not fair.
Speaker 3 (25:26):
It's not fair. I think you have to.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
Jamar Chase has to be in it because he is
has been for multiple years, the number one or one
a best receiver in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
Oh for sure. And then Chado Chosinco was a stuff,
a great point. I didn't even think about o Jo
Cinco Cho Cinco didn't win though, didn't win. I mean
Carson Palmer, my buddy, was there for a long time
and he was an absolute stud. That's a good one.
And they were going the first game of the playoffs
that year. He just resigned a new deal and he
got rolled up on towards a cl in the first
game of the playoffs. But those teams were good teams
(26:00):
with Chadow Chosinco, t J. Hus Manzada and Carson obviously
pulling the trigger. They had some good, good teams back then.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
The only other person I could think of to put
in the running, and I can't pick him because it's
a position that you're unable to pick because it isn't
focused on enough. But it's only because of the accolades
he's gotten as Anthony Munniz.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Anthony Munais was an absolute usc product. You know that
means nothing to me. Nothing. Yeah, So Corey Dillon was
really good too. The running back too brief.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
I know now he was there for a while, wasn't
too brief at like being I don't think he was
a top five back for more.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Than well he's a monster, But I'm just saying, amongst
those other names, I.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Do, Okay, I feel like you were fighting for somebody
at a personal relationship with them.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
He played with me years years. Yeah, maybe not long enough.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
And two historians who watched the offensive line mouno, it
is probably the guy, but yeah, I would probably.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
I think I would go with Boomer. Yes, I'd go
with Boomer.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
I lost two super Bowls, but got to two super Bowls.
Speaker 3 (27:03):
And was playing the forty nine ers in their heyday.
So yes, I'm gonna go with Boomer.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Hey, that's fun. We'll do that was fun, seven or
eight more next week.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Yeah, just don't confuse Jacksonville, Carolina place.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
But they literally they expanded the same year they did, right, yep, Yeah,
those two teams came they were they're twins, basically the twins.
They came out of the womb at the exact same time.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
So yeah, we get swagging new uniforms.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
You've seen me.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Good lately, like an can you recommend a TV show.
I've been We've been hard on catching up on Righteous
Jim Stones. Have you seen that all of it? Danny McBride,
have you? We just started season four, I mean solid.
We have a friend that's in the show, and so
we love who's a friend? Come on tell us of this? He? Uh,
what season are they on? Now? What? Season four? Is
(28:07):
that the final season? I think so?
Speaker 1 (28:08):
I don't have no idea because we've seen every episode.
We're done with the show, but I'm not sure how
many seasons they've had.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
I think for total, so we're starting for not really
sure for Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:17):
So his name's Tim. He plays the husband of the daughter.
He's a pold answer this season.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Yeah, so I know Tim. He's hilarious.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
He's hilarious, but I didn't know him. We started watching
the show on loving it before we got to know him.
But he's super funny, it's super nice.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
But that's it. It's an excellent show. It's an excellent show.
I mean it's it's one of those that you just
have to embrace the awkwardness absurdity of it. It's so absurd.
Another one that's been out for a while that somebody
recommended White Lotus? Yeah, where are you on that? Season two?
Speaker 1 (28:52):
I did not get into White Lotus at all until
my wife was about to finish this last season. She
had two episodes left. I did not watched a single
episode of any season right, and I was like, I'll
catch up with you. I didn't know that she was on.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
I thought she had just started and she was like,
you can't. Well, I take that as a challenge. I don'talized.
I watch four seasons.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
So I watched all four seasons and its six days
is on a treadment. Wherever I was, I was watching
he was flying a lot and I finished all four seasons.
And I think the reason I liked it more than
even the person I know that likes it is because
I don't have to wait episode to episode, because I
think that could be a slow cooker if you're waiting
week to week.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Yeah, and that's one of those you could pick it
up anywhere and kind of find a theme. Now. They
did a great job with the characters and all that
stuff and building the relationships, but it's also one of
those shows to expect the unexpected. You never know which
way they're going with any of it. You're on season two.
Season two, there's four, three or four. Everybody. Everybody I've
(29:47):
talked to about it, they're like, season two is the best,
but I'm midway through and there's some slow parts too,
Like anything, it drags a little bit. How many seasons three? Okay,
I've seen all three seasons? Have you?
Speaker 1 (29:59):
We?
Speaker 3 (29:59):
I had to catch up with my wife? Okay, which
one's your favorite season? I watched them all together on
know the difference? You don't even remember?
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Yeah, season two is great, is it?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Yeah? That's when you're watching Yeah, it's like the two
couples are they together?
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Yeah? Yeah? Yeah, Like.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
That dude who's like the rich guy in the couple,
the good looking dude. Like, rarely am I like attracted
to dudes, But that's a really good looking guy.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
Well I can't say that I had the same sentiment
toward him, but I can't. I was like, that's a
good looking dude. Yeah, they're good looking dudes. Yeah, I'll
go with you. Sure.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
We just finished a show called Department Q on Netflix
that just came out. It's British but it's very American,
but it's British. It's really freaking good. It's about a
guy who gets shot and he gets put on leave
as a cop, but he comes back to do cold cases.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
It's great, like mystery. Yeah you got it's a who
Done It?
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Type thing, but it's nine episodes, which is kind of
long now, but yeah, it's excellent. It's called Department Q.
It just came out, so that's new. And then we
finished Last of Us, which is HBO Max.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Watching that Nope, and it is awesome. I didn't play that.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
I didn't play the video game, but it's based off
a video game and it has Pedro Pascal in it.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Who I didn't know he was in Narcos.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, good in Narcos.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
I've seen Narcos and I've seen other Pedro Pascal things.
I didn't realize because I've seen Narcos but it was
so long ago. And then on Netflix in the front
it says, hey, go back and watching the show you've
already seen Narcos.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
I was like, Petro Pscal was in Narcos.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
Do you go back and watch it now? I just
look at the.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
So those would be the two that i'd recommend. What
you and your wife's like watching schedule because I know
you have five kids, so.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
It's really late at night as we get in and
finally all the kids go to bed, and it's usually
around ten thirty as my wife's center facial routine and
all that stuff, and we finally get to sit down
and watch a show for ourselves. It's it's no daytime
watching unless I get on the treadmill or something like that.
But now with the kids out for school, they're around
all the time, so we're just always.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Going, let's power rank the NFL teams going into twenty
twenty six. It's twenty five, but they'll call it the
twenty sixth.
Speaker 3 (32:09):
Here. That's when it ends.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
Let's power rank the NFL teams and we can go
one to five or five to one. Are you gonna
go from your brain? So you're gonna go one to five?
Then from one to five from the brain? Okay, go ahead,
you can do one through five.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Have to go with the Eagles as number one. I
know they lost some defensive personnel, but Howie Roseman, he
knows how to reload. And they still have aj Brown,
They've still got Smith, They've got Dallas Goddard coming back
in guess what, Sai kuon Barkley and they're in Hurts.
I mean, they've got the best offensive line, so to me,
they're primed to go do it again. Number two. Number two,
(32:45):
I'm gonna go. I'm a believer still in the Baltimore Ravens.
Like I just think they re signed Derek Henry, You've
got Lamar Jackson. They got weapons both at the wide
receiver and tight end position. I know that their defense
there's more to be desired last year, but they addressed
it and so I think that they're going to be
better defensively, and they're just a difficult team to go
up against peak of the physicality and the way that
(33:06):
they play offense. I think that Baltimore is going to
be in a great position to battle for it again.
Number three. I really like the Buffalo Bills again, I
mean reigning MVP Josh Allen. I think the offensive line,
all five starters are returning, They've got a good nucleus
(33:27):
of players at the wide receiver position, and defensively, they
drafted defensive help and brought in Bosa as well, Joey
Bosa to help on the defensive end. I believe that
they're going to compete again for a championship. Let's see
where am I going from here, guys. I mean, you
got to put Kansas City in the mix. They just
were in the Super Bowl. They've been in what four
(33:48):
Super Bowls in the past six years or something like that,
So I'm going to go Kansas City. Firm believer in
Patrick Mahomes. I think that they've put some investment into
the offensive line. Defense kind of has been more of
the biggest reason why they've been winning these last few
years because offense they kind of fell down statistically. But
(34:12):
just give it a year and give motivation to Patrick
Mahomes and I think that he'll be back in the mix.
And the final one that I'm going with, I like
Tampa Bay. How about Tampa Bay, Baker Mayfield, Chris Godwin's
coming back. You get a Mecca BUCA, you got Mike
(34:32):
Evans defensively, I like Todd Bowles and what he does defensively,
and they're in a division which I think that they're
going to be the top dog in the division. How
about that? Yeah, fine, well that's fine. Fine. I don't
have the Ravens in my top five. Typical. Why is
it typical? I don't know, because you're probably gonna put
Dallas in your top five.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
I don't disrefract the Ravens. They'd probably at six, and
I like the Ravens. But I'll go number one mostly
based off his recent pictures because godly, he looks jacked
and he looks motivated. Secondarily because they just win. Patrick
Mahomes and the Chiefs. You don't think somebody is coming
(35:12):
out of a single game, which was the Super Bowl,
he was embarrassed, more motivated all off season than he's
ever been his entire life. And where Patrick Mahomes used
to get look at that dad bod dude, he is
chiseled now.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
I don't think I've seen the pictures crazy.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
It looks like a different dude. Really, yeah, just change
his diet. I'm betting the Chiefs at one. Chiefs at one,
which is not it's not anything crazy, sorry, not far fetch. Yeah,
any Eagles of two, which is not anything crazy to say. Nope,
they just played each other the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
All good.
Speaker 1 (35:50):
I just I don't bet against the Chiefs ever. Yeah, ever,
and the Eagles have been in the Super Bowl, you know,
twice in the past three years. So yeah, so yeah,
it's hard to say.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
It's hard to say that those teams are going to
have a dramatic fall off. So there we go. So
that's that's wanted to number three.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
The Lions if Aiden Hutchinson and I watched his video
of him running, cutting, doing the cone drills, and it
looks fine, and I think he was just trying to show, hey,
look I'm kind of back. I don't think he were
trying to show him all the way BA because I
don't think he's all the way back. I don't think
he even thinks anybody thinks he's all the way back
(36:28):
if he gets right. And I think had he been
right yes in the postseason, I think the Lions season
would have ended different. I'm not saying they would have
won the Super Bowl. I'm not saying they would have
beat the Eagles, but I do think that storybook has
a different ending with that season.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Last year, oh well, they had how many starters, like
ten starters out on the defense side of the ball.
They were playing with a makeshift defense last year, plug
and play guys that they're bringing in off the street
because of the amount of injuries that they sustained. The
only issue I have sometimes with Detroit is you look
at they lost both their coordinators. That's a big adjustment.
But when you look at the offense side of the ball,
(37:04):
they got their dudes coming back. And when you think
about Gibbs and Montgomery, the way that they run the
ball behind that offensive line, I mean, they're going to
be really good. And golf is playing at a really
high level. Yeah, golf.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Here's what's wrong with golf is that golf didn't Although
he did make a Super Bowl with the Rams, golf
wasn't dynamic in Los Angeles. So now we just assumed
golf is just yeah, fine, find it pretty good. But
actually he's a really good quarterback.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
And he's a perfect system fit for what they're trying
to do with run the ball, hard play action, push
the ball down the field, dom and ron Am runs
Saint Brown. There you go, Williams, those guys, I mean,
and he's accurate, right, he's accurate. Now, he's not going
to be the dynamic player outside with his athleticism, but
that's not what they're asking him to do. They know
(37:54):
their personality and their identity and they're going to go
out and stick to that and he's perfect for that.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
For the Detroit Lions and number four the Buffalo Bills.
Everything you said at number five. I didn't put the
Ravens there. And the reason I put the Lions above
the next two teams of the AFC teams is because
I think the NFC's is a little easier to come
out of because the AFC is so stacked that I
think the Lions have the edge and my ranking over
(38:21):
the Bills and my number five team, but just simply
because they're from the NFC and there are less teams
to kind of weed through to get there where you
do have Baltimore, Kansas City, Buffalo, who's at four with me,
and the Bengals who's and you never know what Pittsburgh's
gonna do once they're going to go nine to eight,
(38:41):
have a winning records. They're going to winning record if
they can get the Trey Hendrickson deal done. I have
the Bengals at five.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
I like that, So I mean they got two absolute
number one alphas on the outside. Joe Burrows is as
good as it gets if their offensive line can protect
him and do what they do. But Trey Hendrickson is
going to be the most important aspect of that defense
because he's the leader of that defense, the.
Speaker 1 (39:04):
Only one that actually plays I think they have one guy.
It's like eleven versus one, and he's like the one
that's got to beat all eleven to get back there,
and he usually does and he does. Yes, so let's
sign that guy. Yeah, so that's my five. Baltimore's obviously
arguably in that mix as well, But the AFC is so.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
Much harder to get out of. They're stacked because of
the quarterbacks. I mean the quarterbacks and just the physicality
that some of these conferences have, particularly the North. I
mean when you think about Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Cincinnati and
who am I missing that?
Speaker 1 (39:38):
That that whole group right there. They just beat each
other up. Kansas City, in cities in the West. Oh,
I thought you mentioned with the AFC.
Speaker 3 (39:45):
Oh, Well, yeah, just AFC in general for sure.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
I mean quarterback play AFC Mahomes, Alan Lamar, Joe Burrow.
I mean those you could argue those are the top
four quarterbacks franchise quarterbacks in the league in the NFL.
So yeah, let's go Lion, let's call it. I didn't
even entertain the Lions as my team because they've been
(40:10):
good the last couple of years, traditionally been terrible forever
but I could. I feel like that would be a bandwagoner,
Like I'm seeing a stock already go up and the
stock can have already peaked.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Yes, but you also you've got to love the personality
of the head coach Dan. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
And what's weird to me about Dan Campbell. The weirdest
thing about Dan Campbell is he's an offensive guy. He
seems he looks he sounds like a defensive guy.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Just like an in tier defensive line and just meadthead
we're gonna take your knee caps off, We're gonna eat
your caps for lunch type guy. But he is an
offensive minded dude.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
He has nothing about him this as I am an
offensive guy.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Yet he's awesome. But I think that's what makes him
so intriguing, because he's got that grit and he's rough
around the edges. But he also he's honest, right, He's
tells it as it is, and that about them.
Speaker 1 (41:21):
I was looking at Forbes's twenty twenty five lists of
the world's hight paid athletes. This is from May twenty
four to May twenty five, so I guess the official
cutoff was a few days ago. Okay, so one year
ago from just a couple of days ago.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
Highest paid athletes there was only for.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
The whole year for twenty twenty four May to May
twenty twenty five. Okay, soccer's going to be one year.
There's only one football player on the list. I was
gonna say, who do you think it is?
Speaker 3 (41:48):
Top ten? Patrick Mahomes. No, really, And when you learn why,
Travis Kelsey, I thought because he sold his podcast for
a hundred million dollars. That didn't work.
Speaker 1 (41:59):
Well, we had to split that also with his brother. Well,
well it's still fifty million, sure, And then I'm sure
there are other investors.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Listen, We're just okay, So that wasn't it. That's not it.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
I'll read you down the list. I'm gonna skip the
one football player. Okay, number one, this is in one year.
Ronaldo two hundred and seventy five million bucks.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
Oh my gosh, holler at me.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
Ronaldo, the forty year old soccer icon, tops the list
for the third consecutive year, two hundred and seventy five million.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
Mostly that's because he went to.
Speaker 1 (42:30):
Saudi and played for a club over there, and they
just paid him a whole bunch extra money to come
over there.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
Not a bad idea. Number two.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
Oh question, who you think the highest highest paid? Now,
this is overall, this is endorsements, this is salary basketball
NBA because this is the number two person on the
list overall. It's not Lebron and I will if you're floating,
Steph Curry, what's your answer?
Speaker 3 (42:55):
Steph Curry?
Speaker 1 (42:55):
One hundred and fifty six million, Steph Curry, Nice job, boom,
thank you.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
The Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Became the first NBA player to reach four thousand career
three pointers. He made a hund fifty six million bucks
last year's good year. Number three is a boxer?
Speaker 3 (43:11):
A boxer? M it's not Canelo.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
You do the game where you say what it's not
to see if you'll get a reaction. I will not
give you a reaction.
Speaker 3 (43:24):
Because you've tried it twice. Now I'm onto you.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
Are you so you out there?
Speaker 1 (43:29):
It's not but I'm smart for me. You're a little
lure down there. I'm here, comes to fish not taking it? Oh,
who's who's the one boxer?
Speaker 3 (43:36):
Tank? Uh? What's what's his name? All right, I don't
know who We'll go with Canelo.
Speaker 1 (43:43):
That's the only one you said. Okay, that's perfect incorrect.
You're very wrong with Canelo. What a dumb answer.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
It's so stupid. That was like, I need to get
back into boxing.
Speaker 1 (43:51):
Tyson Fury one hundred and forty six million. He lost
his heavyweight title, but not only did he fight. And
what's funny about boxing is you don't win to make
more money. You agree to the person ahead of time
and you get paid what ever, just to fight. The
more value you're worth to get eyeballs on it, right.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
More you're paid. That's what's crazy at boxing. Yeah, because
who do you fight this last year? That was a
mega fight? The you sick guy? You he lost the
title to us YK. How you sick? You see? Okay?
But also he had that fight over and over again
with the big dude. Yeah, the not the UFC guy.
Speaker 1 (44:25):
No, no, no, no, because Tyson Fury is big and
pale and white, Deontay Wilder.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
Wilder is a.
Speaker 1 (44:30):
Humongous black dude. And those two they fought like three
three times, right, three times? Yeah, those are awesome. Tyson
Fury number three, FOOTBA player, number four. We'll come back
to it at number five. Another soccer player. You can
get this one very easy. It's not Canelo, right, MESSI correct,
it's messy, messy. One hundred and thirty five million At
number six. Another basketball player, Lebron.
Speaker 3 (44:52):
Correct. Lebron last year made one hundred and thirty three
million dollars. It's a lot of money.
Speaker 1 (44:57):
At number seven, the first baseball player on the list. No,
And I will say this about this baseball player. He
shifted team teams in the same city and signed a
fifteen year contract.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
They help it all, No.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
One, So, oh, you didn't sign a massive contract fifteen
years to get you need that. If you're going to
play for the Mets, you better give me a lot
of money for a lot a lot of money, believe
the Yankees. Yeah, I'm gonna tell you this is a
soccer player. I could give you one hundred guesses. I'm
not gonna get it, nor would I. Okay, good, I
say that respectfully. Krim Benzema, Oh yeah, he got his
(45:35):
rookie card or what.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
Got his jersey at the house? Bro Number nine is
another baseball player. You got it. One hundred and two million.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
Number ten got more money than new contract new contract money. Okay,
and Otani last year it played for the Dodgers. So
it's like football, right, it's like the year you signed
in the link you signed four right, so recently.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
Also, you'd have to take in consideration, isn't all over
the world in terms of advertisement, advertisement and all that stuff. Yes,
you'd think that he'd make a lot more than one.
Speaker 1 (46:12):
So I also theorize, if I shall theorize with really
limited knowledge, that they don't know all the money everybody makes. True,
so they're just assuming or they're basing it on the
money they know people make because they don't know if
like people own restaurants or houses or flip you know, true.
Number ten to third basketball player. This is the final
(46:32):
person on the list. Can you nail number ten? The
only basketball player that is on the list other than
Steph and Lebron And he made one hundred and one
point four million dollars. Name that basketball player?
Speaker 3 (46:43):
One, Name that basketball player? Name that basketball player? You
want to say, canla? Don't you? I so do right now? Hm? Oh,
rant yeah, yeah, look give me coming out of those
(47:06):
that was your.
Speaker 1 (47:07):
Throwaway answer, and you were you wanted to say noil
it no, but you were like, I don't know, just
what is it? Then you went, Duran, I'm not even
sure you said Durant. You might have just grunted, but yes,
Kevin duran made one hundred and one point four million dollars.
The Sun's forward rounded up to top ten with one
hundred and one point four million dollars. So now we're
back to the football player at number four. So Tyson
Fury made one hundred and forty six million at number three.
(47:27):
Lionel Messi made one hundred and thirty five million at
number five. Who is the only NFL player It's not
Patrick Mahomes, It's not Travis Kelce. He's at number four
on the list. Jalen Hurts, same division, Dak Prescott. Correct, Wow,
good for him. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback secured one hundred
(47:49):
and thirty seven million dollars because his signing bonus new deal. Yep,
so next year won't be near that because he won't
have a signing bonus. Obviously he's not signing a new contract,
but because of his signing bonus and then his contract extension,
obviously getting paid more of the sixty million or.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
Whatever those numbers are absurd.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
Yeah, I was gonna ask you about money because there
are some similarities to our jobs, especially and I'll just
speak open and honest and a bit candid here, especially
at the level that we've both done them.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
To do.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
My job, there's a fraction of people that make enough
to be comfortable, and even smaller fraction enough.
Speaker 3 (48:39):
To be wealthy.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
True, at this point in my life, I'm in that
fraction of a fraction, and it's pretty cool. IM not
gonna lie to you, especially growing up.
Speaker 3 (48:47):
I grew up.
Speaker 1 (48:47):
It's awesome. My shelf life can be as long as
I produce and stay ahead. But that's a lot of brain. Yes,
So I started probably making really good money. Like my
first year's I'm just gonna walk through it so I
can get right in my head. My first year's now start.
(49:09):
As a teenager, I was making six dollars an hour.
My first contract I ever signed was for twenty three
thousand dollars a year, and that was when I was
twenty one years old. My first ever morning show contract,
when I thought I was rich, was fifty thousand dollars
a year in Austin.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
I was twenty three.
Speaker 1 (49:29):
I started moving up the ladder quick, dude, I thought
I was rich at crap as if grand a year like,
I was like, I don't have to like look and
see if that how much I have that I can
spend on.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Groceries after bills.
Speaker 1 (49:39):
Yes, I started to really kill it about thirteen years
ago before I moved here, because they paid me a
lot to leave what I was because I.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
Owned my company.
Speaker 1 (49:47):
I built my own company, my own syndication company with
my own money, and my shelf life can be twenty
five years, thirty years if I play it right. As
an athlete, you generally don't have that, even at the
most elite level.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
Right, it's finite if you're getting paid a lot.
Speaker 1 (50:04):
At time, you were getting paid a lot after your
rookie deal was over. Like let's say, what with Kansas
City's not a big deal? Like do how does money
affect you when you know it's not going to last?
When there is you don't know what it is. We
kind of know when that windows closing.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
Right, Well, you got to have some kind of financial literacy,
and they try to educate you when you come into
the league. They have all these different platforms and speakers
come in, but at the same time it's up to
the individual and the person to understand, and they try
to hit home to every player. Look, guys, this job
that you you do. If you're lucky, you know, five
(50:42):
ten years, you're you're considered a true veteran at that
point and hopefully have put the put away some of
your cash. But I was lucky enough to play fourteen years.
A lot of guys aren't that lucky. So you have
to understand that there is an end game and you
try to prepare for that. But when you're making that
type of money, you also have to put the right
people around you in terms of financial advisors and people
(51:04):
that can help you along the world way to understand
the long game. Because say you don't make another dollar
from this point on, and I've retired at thirty five
thirty six, did you.
Speaker 1 (51:13):
Think about that when you're thirty one, like I'm going
to have to retire in the next few years just
because of age.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
Well, you know that you're closer to the end than
you are to the beginning. So when you get to
year ten eleven, you start just kind of investigating different
different things that you could do after you've done with football,
And that's the hard part for every football player. You
have to come to grips with that because you're used
to competing, you're used to the scheduling you're used to
all those things and making damn good money. The checks,
(51:40):
the checks, and they come in frequently, and then all
of a sudden that abruptly ends. And they have all
the different programs. It's the four to oh one K
and the annuity program and all those things that you've
had throughout your career, but that's not going to have
the longevity of what you just made over those fourteen years.
So you have to be smart and be able to
calculate out. And then at the same time, for me,
(52:01):
it was I needed to go find something else to
do because I couldn't just sit around. And I'm lucky
and blessed that I'm around my kids while they're growing
up a lot. While football season in college football, I'm
traveling a little bit more. But still it's weekends versus
being gone all week and working that nine to five
and doing those things. So I've been pretty blessed in
(52:21):
that sense.
Speaker 1 (52:22):
But did you worry about checks drying up?
Speaker 3 (52:23):
Though? Like, what are you going to do when the
checks don't come anymore? I'm going to come talk to you, obviously,
I'm going to try to use my brain a little
bit more.
Speaker 1 (52:29):
I guess, because I think that would freak me out,
and it must every day.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
I mean, I think for every individual, especially when you're
a father and your husband, you're taking care of a
family and you're doing all those things. You look at
that and worry about it, but you can't become so
consumed by it. You just have to be smart with
your money and understand where you're at and at the
same time try to go out and make a living
doing something different than what you did before.
Speaker 1 (52:55):
Did you feel, even though you didn't know it was
the last few years of your playing career, that you
were already putting in roots and other air is to work,
meaning media or you know, a business, venture capital. I'm
just saying words I don't know which people use. I
don't know, But did you start like thinking about other
(53:15):
things that you could do once it ended?
Speaker 3 (53:18):
You do to a certain extent. And at the same time,
if you don't go in and have complete focus on
what you're doing on the NFL. In the NFL, then
you're not going to be there for long, even when
you're a veteran quarterback, so you've got to put one
hundred percent in. But you start investigating because a lot
of times people come to you while you're playing to
invest in this, to put money in this, and everybody's
got a great idea, and so then you start looking, okay,
(53:42):
more so from just an investor standpoint, what can I
do to keep my mind occupied? Because it's one thing
to stroke a check, it's another thing to have to
prepare for something, to go out and work at it,
try to get better, get good feedback, whether it's public speaking,
whether it's doing a podcast that's media speaking. So it's
all these different things that are starting to come to
the mind. But it's starting from coaching. Coaching. Coaching is
(54:03):
another one, but you're starting from zero, right, A lot
of kind of you do it. You have former Pro
Bowl quarterback freaking Matt Castle, right, but you also have
people that have been in if you wanted to go
into finance, so to speak, or something like that, you've
have somebody that's been there since they're twenty two, grinding
away and you're coming in trying to learn just the
(54:23):
lay of the land, and so you're kind of already
behind in that sense, and so you got to play
catch up. But again, it's another it's another option for
you to go out and work, work hard and find
something that you're passionate about.
Speaker 1 (54:37):
Another bonus that I have in my contract is minor
guaranteed deals, and now baseball and basketball have that NFL doesn't.
Speaker 3 (54:45):
That's why your NFL's getting there though. But you didn't
have that, Like, no, we didn't have that luck.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
You get hurt, you break up freaking femur right and
you're thirty two.
Speaker 3 (54:53):
You'll have an injury settlement and they'll say thank you,
but you can't help us anymore and the next person
will roll right up and take your position. That's just
you know, and the nature of the NFL for so
long was, as I said, they would get give you
those bonuses for year one or year two of a
four to six year contract, but as soon as your
three hit, it was at the discretion of the team
(55:14):
whether or not they thought one you could play, whether
you fit in the salary cap, and they could cut
you for any reason. So that money that they talk
about after year or two, that really was just if
you made the team. Whereas now you're seeing guys sign
four year deals and really start with Kirk Cousins, I mean,
he was the trailblazer for the NFL and getting that
first guaranteed contract, and now you're starting to see guys
(55:36):
get a one hundred million guaranteed Kirk Cousins also just
did that with Sean Watson.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Best investment ever, best investment ever.
Speaker 3 (55:43):
Poor guy.
Speaker 1 (55:44):
Yeah, except not really except just the opposite of poor guy.
Speaker 3 (55:48):
You know.
Speaker 1 (55:49):
I just felt bad about the Achilles. I was sticking
to that.
Speaker 3 (55:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
Yeah, I would say that's karma Achilles.
Speaker 3 (55:56):
Uh. Yeah, a lot of those fans thought that. Did
you see that when he went down? I did see that. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (56:17):
Do you think nil money for these college kids is
bad for rookie motivation?
Speaker 3 (56:23):
No, because if this is something that you want to
do for a living, you got to be all in,
like I said, and you have to be self motivated.
You don't make it in the NFL unless you're self motivated.
So you can make all the money for playing collegiate
sports right now, but now you start as a rookie
and you got to go earn it. And I don't
think it takes away from rookie motivation. And I just
(56:43):
think it's one of those all these guys, if they've
gone through the process, played in college, and now they're
at the level that they finally wanted to get to
This is their profession, and in order to make it,
they got to go out and grind.
Speaker 1 (56:55):
I think my presentation would be similar to yours, where
I think the answer is it does not hurt rookie motivation,
but I think where it actually helps. Let's use Klee Williams,
let's use let's even go to the NBA like Cooper Flag.
According to sources, Now made about twenty three million dollars
his freshman year a duke, and just inil you.
Speaker 3 (57:15):
Made twenty three million. That's amazing.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
So what you can do though, as a scout or
personnel of an NFL team, A lot of these kids
come from very little and they are dumped into money
as a first round draft pick. And it's almost like
a homeschool kid going to a public school or to college.
Because I had some friends who were that, and that's
(57:38):
not all. But my friends that went to homeschool and
went to college went freaking crazy when they got to
college for a year. That's for a year, two yes,
and some of them never came back and some of
them adjusted well, but there was a wild period.
Speaker 3 (57:51):
I think with these athletes that are.
Speaker 1 (57:55):
Eighteen nineteen years old that are making this money in
college and they have that money, they're able to have
that period of having money for the first time, and
as personnel, you can see how they acted and reacted to.
Speaker 3 (58:05):
Money, right, and it will not be new to them
once they are in the NFL. Heck, it's going to
be less for a bit for sure. And you're seeing
these kids grow up so much earlier because these contracts
are not just happening when they come in as a freshman.
These are starting to get negotiated when they're sixteen, seventeen,
eighteen if you're a big time recruits, So they have
to have more financial literacy than ever before, and they
(58:28):
also have agents and all those things that go in.
It used to be one of those when you get
to a senior and you're finally draft eligible. That's when
it all starts, and then you get some money when
you come in as a rookie. Now they have money,
and they've had representation and they understand just the entirety
of how the process works. So they're a little bit
more educated and smart in terms of how to use
(58:50):
that money.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
And it's less new, so it's less something else they
have to learn while they're learning everything else.
Speaker 3 (58:54):
Right, and they already got there Bentley, So that's true.
That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (58:59):
Okay, three other things. I want to do my list
I always got to. I'm going to do my Bobby's
Big List. I made a list this week of NFL
players that could have been dropped in any era and
they'd have still been awesome.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
Great.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
I was talking earlier about how it's hard to compare
players from the fifties to the nineties, from the sixties
to two thousands, because you really can only compare against
who they played against, because styles, because science, because education, knowledge.
Speaker 3 (59:24):
Was all different. Right.
Speaker 1 (59:26):
So at number seven, regardless of what era he played in.
Before I say that, I'll tell you who I did
not put on the list of Patrick Mahomes because I
think a guy like Mahomes thrives because one the offensive
system he's in, the offensive coordinator that he has, in
his style of ball that he.
Speaker 3 (59:42):
Played at Texas Tech, which is why he.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
Even played at Texas Tech, right, like he needs and
had he played in like the sixties, they would not
have run under center.
Speaker 3 (59:53):
Yeah, play action, pass, yeah, just absolutely melee, Yes, yes,
I agree, it's different. Errors.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
So at number seven, Calvin Johnson. Oh yeah, this was
such a specimen six five four to three speed megatron.
Even if they have one receiver and a leather helmet,
you just throw it up.
Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
To the guy, it doesn't matter, or line him up
in the backfield. I'm sure he'd run through everybody. In
the sixties, he was phenomenal.
Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
At number six, and I'm saying he could be dropped
into today because this is an older player.
Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Lawrence Taylor, Oh yeah, he fits the mold of that
hybrid outside linebacker defensive end. Can move them around, so versatile.
But his first step in the violence that he played with,
Oh my gosh, araproof is what I would araoproof.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
The thing he would have to adjust is not killing
people though, because he get flagged a lot at first.
Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
Yes, like, hey, stop taking their heads off man. Coach Belichick,
that was his favorite player. When he came in and
spoke to us, he'd do the history lessons they'd call
it basically, and he'd go and go from the wing
tea and then how the modern offenses evolved over the years.
But then he'd go back and show us old clips
of people from when he coached with the Gans and
LT was his dude. He told the greatest story ever.
(01:01:09):
One time. He said they were getting ready for a game.
It was like a walk through the day before. LT
is like running a little wheel route, messing around, sprains
his ankle. They don't think he's going to be able
to go. And it's a big game the next day,
and I forget what game he talked about. Well, there's
a horse track right there in the meadow lands where
(01:01:30):
they were playing. He went across. Supposedly, The story goes
that he got shot up with like a horse, tranquilizer
in his ankle, comes out, has like six sacks, goes off,
doesn't miss a snap. ELT's like, yeah, coach, I'm ready
to go. It was a phenomenal story. That's awesome. Yeah.
Number five Rob Gronkowski.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Now think about him and I would drop him in
depending on the era, in different places. So a tight
end in the era he was in, tight in now,
but he also sixty to seventies would have been a
massive linebacker, a defensive end, a defensive tackle like I
think Gronk could have played anywhere because of his size
(01:02:12):
and athleticism. So I think Gronk is ara of proof,
but I think he probably would have played different positions
because that tied end position was much more of a
blocker until the last twenty five years.
Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Right, which he's a heck of a blocker. Two. But
like you said, he could line up on offensive line,
he could line up on the defensive side of the ball.
He was just that type of unique talent, especially because
of how physical he was.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Dean Sanders at four. You take him, you put him now,
he's still one of the greatest to ever do it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
True. He is like a Travis Hunter before Travis Hunter. Yeah, untouchable.
Number three. Trent Williams, Oh gosh, he's so good. I
love watching that guy play, and you love having him
on the offensive side the ball because a lot of
times you talk about those guys that are super gritty
and tough and all those things, and you talk about
defensive linment. But he's one of those guys that sets
(01:03:00):
the tone for the offensive lineman. Like any young offensive
lineman coming up, I would watch Trent Williams. He plays
the game in such a way that he is an
intimidating figure.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
When they drop Trent Williams stats, regardless of if it's micro,
a macro like career, or a year. It's like Trent Williams,
the guy lined up hasn't even seen the quarterback since
nineteen forty one. You're like, dang, he hasn't seen the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
That's awesome, pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:03:26):
Number two Derrick Henry. Yeah, I mean Derek. Could you
imagine him back in the day, It wouldn't have mattered
where he'd played both sides of the ball. He would
easily play both sides. He could play nose tackle back
in the day because he's so fast.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
And this is where I think he has the advantage
over Gronk as being one of those you can put anywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Is he just faster too.
Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
He's a massive guy, but he's also faster.
Speaker 3 (01:03:47):
Oh when he gets to open field, he's like a
twenty two mile per hour guy like this, Nobody catches
him in the seventies.
Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
He gonna play defensive back, he people, yes, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
And he looks like a defensive end. I'm not lying
to yet. He looks exactly like a defensive end.
Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
At number one players, you could drop it any era
and they would still be freaking amazing. And I'm not
going to ask you to guess mine, because again I
made the list. But is there anybody you think of
that comes to your mind. Where you're we gotta putting
it on the spot here where you go, Man, it
didn't matter where. When you put him in forties, fifties,
twenty twenty five, they'd have been awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:04:19):
Reggie White, good one. Reggie White was one of those guys.
I love to watch him.
Speaker 1 (01:04:24):
Athleticism, fast, strong, Oh, just with club people. Yeah, that
was good absolutely club people. Mine is not Reggie.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
That's a great one. I probably would have put on
the list.
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
I thought of him. Aaron Donald, Aaron Donald, he was.
Did you play against him?
Speaker 3 (01:04:39):
We did, and I did, And he is just an
absolute harassment each and every snap because he would line
up in different positions and you're trying to create double
teams or slide the protection to him to get some
help from the center and to give the guard. But
because they would move him around and he was smaller
in terms of just stature, but he was so strong
(01:05:03):
and quick off the ball that it was a match
versus interior offensive lignment all the time. You have to
give help to him, which would free up other people. Yeah,
he's like.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
This term is using other other ways and you know,
not meaning in that way. But he's like an illegal alien,
meaning he should be illegal, and he plays like an
alien because he's a little small, right, but he's so
freaking We find the perfect word, substantial.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Ooh, he is a substantial human being.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
He's so it's almost illegal how much he dominated or
had to take sometimes double teams or the occasional double
team with a chip.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
I would see that all the time. If you're an
offensive unit, you're coming to a game playing the La Rams,
You're sitting there and the first thing that you talk
about is Aaron Donald. How do we block him? How
are we going to handle him? In the run game,
We're going to try to run right at him. We're
not going to try to run away fromhim because he's
going to track you down from behind. In the past game,
how are we going to turn protection even though we
(01:06:03):
know that they've got some other dudes out there, but
this is the game we have to block because wreaking
havoc on the interior part of the offensive line. That's
the biggest issue for quarterbacks because you feel that push
in your face, and that's what's so disruptive. If you
can step up in the pocket, it's one thing, but
when you feel that right now, it's really difficult to
go out there and perform at a high level.
Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
Well, a guy like Aaron Donald, even though did you
feel him, even if he wasn't close, because you always
had to have an eye or an ear to know
where he was coming from.
Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Well, you try not to chase ghosts, and you always
know that that's the game record coming in, and so
when you're dropping back, you're like, oh, is he coming?
Is he not? But you just try to put that
out of your mind and keep going. You But like
I said, we are always very cautious when we'd go
up and turn protection opposite of him because we never
wanted to leave him one on one. So you're always
(01:06:54):
thinking about him.
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Yeah, I feel like that would be getting chased by ghosts.
Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
That's what I would be.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
I'd be running from a ghost. They're like, he's not
even playing today, it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
I'm out of here.
Speaker 3 (01:07:06):
Okay. So here's what we have.
Speaker 1 (01:07:07):
Last week we said if you go to and Spotify
was where you could put a comment under the podcast,
and we said, right, Matt Castle is my daddy, and
we would send somebody assigned Matt Castle, Jersey and so.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
I'm not going to tell you their screen name.
Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
I'm just gonna read you some of these and let
me know which one you're like. Wilson find him. It's
in my jersey. I listened to potsince day one, and
although I'm from Germany and have a little to no
idea about most stuff we're talking about, well besides football,
I love it. Matt and Bobby pair up so well
that I don't care what they're talking about. I just
enjoy listening. Matt Castle is my daddy.
Speaker 3 (01:07:39):
That's a strong one. Number two.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
This is a great show and you don't only have
to be a football fan. Matt Castle is my daddy.
Matt Castle is my daddy. Enjoyed Pains Valley this week
in Bobby It's a beautiful course. Oh here's somebody knowing
what's going on with there, exactly what you're doing. I
saw Matt and his wife at Bobby's Million Dollar Show.
Was so scared to say hi. They look like they
were lost finding their seats, but stood out because they
were both so tall and athletic and gorgeous humans. Next
time getting a pick, By the way, Matt Castle's my daddy.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
They look lost. We were.
Speaker 1 (01:08:09):
That's what you were drawn to more than beautiful human specimens.
If that's not the human, if that's not the most
human thing ever. Because I will look at my comments
and I will find the one that hates me so much,
and there's like seven hundred they're saying nice things. Yeah,
but I'm drawn to the one that's like his head
is larger than the human head and he's an industry
plant because he's not that talented. It's funny that what
didn't stick out Teter respond back to is that you
(01:08:31):
and your wife are both the gorgeous humans and really tall.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
Yeah. I mean, just really, really nice comment all around.
But I really was lost when I walked into that place.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
Loved the podcast. On the days where I'm commuting three hours,
I wish you did more shows each week. At this point,
I have to switch up twenty five whistles, the big Show,
and lots to say. Hope you top Travis and Jason soon.
Matt Castle is my daddy. Matt Castle is my daddy.
Never made a comment before on a podcast, but had
to because that's funny. Matt Castle is my daddy. Chiefs
(01:09:02):
fan for life. Matt Castle is my daddy. My z
Matt Castle is my daddy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
Go chiefs.
Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
Matt Castle is my daddy, just like Bob Barker was
Barney Stinson's daddy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
You guys get the reference, yea from how Much Mother, Kevin?
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
But did you not get it?
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
No? I didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Mac Castle's my daddy, Mac Castle's my daddy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
Mac Castle's my daddy. Mac Castle's my daddy. Whoop pig.
Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
There's a lot of Okay, so I didn't even ask
you to keep track. But of all those, where does
your mind take you?
Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
I mean the first one was I've been a listener
from day one in Germany, love the show. And he
also put Mac Castles my daddy. It's pretty solid. Which
one were you drawn to? Kevin?
Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
I love Yeah, International Germany.
Speaker 3 (01:09:49):
Wow, NFL is trying to expand. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
Okay, So if you're luky l u k, I send
Kevin a DM and we'll make sure it's you because
we'll probably be able to tell. I don't know how
we're gonna tell. We're gonna tell.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
Packaging might cost a little bit more, but you know, or.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
It will just take longer to get there, and we
will I'll have once we know, like your name and
stuff will have Matt sign it to you and we'll
mail it to you. And we appreciate you listening, and Kevin,
so just be on the lookout there and we will
do one more round of this next week because I
have two of those jerseys I was wearing every week.
To be funny, we have two of those, so we'll
(01:10:26):
do one more. If you're right, Matt Castle area is
the criminal enterprises. Never mind, let's do this then then
we'll fall back into the other one.
Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
How about you used to say Matt Castle is a
gorgeous human. No, you know what.
Speaker 1 (01:10:52):
I was going to do better than that, but then
I felt guilty, so, as she wrote, we didn't give
her the jersey this time. But she talked about how
you and your wife and you both are very physically
attractive and and just dominant because you're both so tall,
and you both were elite athletes, so yeah, you have
everything going for yet that sucks. So anyway, if you're
(01:11:12):
right Matt Castle is a gorgeous human, we'll pick another
one next week. Down in the comments, Wilson in a jersey.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
I appreciate that, even if you don't think it all right, Well,
here's the thing I really think it's just been hard
for me not to say it. Oh well, I appreciate
you know. That's just two guy references today. I'm totally
into it, you know. I was good.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
Look at this guy from White Lotus though, don't worry
now that dude like in shape?
Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
Yeah, well are you not in shape? Yeah? I feel
in shape. For me. I feel like you're you're pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:11:38):
My pants are a little tight, but I think that's
what makes you in shape. That's right, bro, that guy
from White Lotus, Like I was thinking to myself, Man,
I'm not in the dudes, but I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:46):
Like he's that good looking.
Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
Which season two, he.
Speaker 1 (01:11:51):
Was also in a show I forget the name of
it on Netflix where he was like some sort of
investigator and he was like trying to solve a crime.
That's a lot of them, I know, a lot of
I know, but it's it's the same guy.
Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
It was good. It's really good.
Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
Though it was like the Unreachables or something.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:12:08):
I let him DeMarco or no, do you know the name?
Speaker 3 (01:12:11):
Don't know? I don't think you do. I don't know
the name.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Who needs a name?
Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
I don't need to like fall in love with No,
it's not Adam DeMarco. I don't know what Adam DeMarco's from,
and that ain't Hey, trust me, that ain't him.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
I would know him if he showed me him.
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
I mean, like, hold on, why James Lotus season THEO two?
Is that it?
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Who it is?
Speaker 4 (01:12:36):
I'm guessing here we go it is?
Speaker 1 (01:12:40):
Oh, yes, it's THEO James for sure. Great name too,
that's a pretty good one. That can't be as weird
as real name. His real name is thor yeah, or
it's like Wilburg and Zombanich and he had to change
it to be cooler because he's so good looking. Uh,
let me see what he's done here, and I'll tell
you the other show that was really good, THEO James.
(01:13:00):
He has been in such things. Maybe we can get
THEO James on the show. Hey, reach out to the NFL.
But don't say that I'm like in love with him.
Speaker 3 (01:13:07):
Yeah, honestly, don't let him hear this podcast and that
he's researching where he lives and where he's at.
Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
The show is on Netflix. It got an eight out
of ten stars on IMDb. It's called The Gentleman. It's
really great. The Gentleman Gentleman. Yeah, Emmy and the Gentleman.
It's it's fantastic fantas that due, isn't it good?
Speaker 3 (01:13:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
That's yeah, really really good.
Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:29):
Did you consider THEO James kind of Yeah, exactly exactly.
When we left last week, and we'll end on this,
I invited my friend mat here to go on a
golf trip. We just went for a day twenty four
hours and we went over to we stayed at So
the owner of Bass Pro Shops, Johnny Morris, has so
(01:13:53):
much in this area of Missourian your brands and that's
what it's hometown. So he like wants it to be amazing,
like his legacy is this area, and so he has
this place called Big Cedar Lodge. It's just part of
what he owns, which, by the way, they just built
an arena like an amphitheater arena. Rolling Stones just played
there really yes, and then they yeah, yes, and then
they stayed at Big.
Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
Seater Lodge for like five days on vacation.
Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
That's the Rolling Stones. That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
They came from Europe.
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
Is that minigolf. I don't even know if they have minigolf,
but yes, so they play there. I think Garth opened
it up. So he has made this town culturally relevant
to all of America. But sometimes it is so hidden
because it is.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
In the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
It's me.
Speaker 1 (01:14:37):
It's right in mid of Missouri. Is it hard to
get there, No, it's very easy to get there. It's
like near Springfield. So we flew from here by forty
five minute flight, pretty easy. We get there twenty four hours.
We stay in a cabin that was so sick. It's
on my Instagram, mister Bobby Bones. And there were four
of is me, brother in law, father in law, Eddie,
the four that played Brandon went and Brandon shot a
bunch of content. And they have this course called Paines Valley.
(01:15:01):
And I've been lucky enough to play Pebble Beach, Pebble
Beach pro Am and Spyglass and a lot of these
courses that I probably have no right to play.
Speaker 3 (01:15:11):
It's it's that it's easily comparable. It's that the only thing.
Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
Pebble Beach has is the history of watching on television
and like the fame, and it's right on the O.
But I'm telling you this pain They have four or
five courses there, some of them have PGA tournaments.
Speaker 3 (01:15:24):
We got four or five courses at this one spot immaculate.
Speaker 1 (01:15:27):
I'm talking about it. If you're a golfer, this is
where you want to go. And some people don't know
about it. And they didn't pay me, by the way,
because it was such a last minute thing.
Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
I was like, right, that's just got to come and play.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
We went to Pains Valley and played and it was
a plus. So then after they say, hey, we're building
this place called Cliffhangers. It's a par three. The whole
course is a par three. It's not done, but you
can play the eleven holes that are finished.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
And it's going to be an eighteen part three.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
It might be the most fun golf experience I've ever had. Really,
why because first of all, it's an it's a plus
as far as the niceness of the course, right, but
it's so it is premiere, right. Yeah, we actually played
thirteen holes. They open to it the holes for the
very first time ever for us. You have to be
the first ones to play two different holes. Yeah, there's
(01:16:13):
one you're in a cave and there's water coming down
and you have to hit it through the water on
the come on, oh, through the water over the water
on a green.
Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
It is crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
It opens in like a few months. That one good.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
I don't remember. We played a whole tournament. I won
the whole tournament because they're only four of us. Yeah,
but I think I shot. The greens though, are difficult
because the greens are.
Speaker 3 (01:16:38):
There. Some some of them are shelved. Oh yeah, really difficult.
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
And they're not doing like really hard greens. They're doing
obnoxiously hard parts of the greens that are like hilarious
that you like, it's just ridiculous unless you really know
what you're doing. Even if you know what you're no,
not on the Part three because it's there's no no.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
That was Part three. Okay. We didn't take Catty for
other one either.
Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
One okay, when Cliffhangers is done, and it only took
us like an hour and fifteen minutes to play that
because it's a part The course is a plus nine.
It's like any course I've ever been on. But it's
all Part three's island greens. Every dude, I'm telling you,
it was the best twenty four hour golf experience I've
ever had.
Speaker 3 (01:17:14):
We would have stayed three or four days if we
could have. I'm glad that you guys had so much fun,
and I was like, I was in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
Yes, that's okay, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:17:28):
Okay now, No, that it was much It was much
better than what you experienced. It was a plus.
Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
And It's hard for me to be impressed because I'm
very jaded at this point. Where people will call and
be like, come and do this, hoping I talk about it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:43):
They did not call me. I called and was like,
it was all me, like begging, that's incredible. It was awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
We'll go back up sometime. I definitely don't want to
hit them back up and be like, can we come
up again in three weeks?
Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
Is it okay? From Matt's a play. I didn't get
to play. Have you seen my golf ball?
Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
But maybe on like a week day or something we
go up there. Yes, dude, I'm telling you, I don't
even know what to say. It was like the best
golf experience I've ever had in my life.
Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
It sounds like you really did felt it. You felt
every part of that course and I didn't. And I'm
not like a great golfer. I'm a twelve, but still,
just the experience itself, absolutely, it had to be cool
to have brother in law, father in law there, how
are they at golfing?
Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
Brother in law is a little better than I am.
That I beat him in the Partree tournament, though he
beat me in the Part four. I beat him in
the Part three, but Part four was a little more valuable.
I would say Part four is a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
Yeah, so he was.
Speaker 1 (01:18:37):
He's a little bit better than I am. But he
probably plays a little bit more than me. Yeah, he's
more of a natural athlete than I am too, So
I think if we played the exact amount, he'd still.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
Be a little better than me. Are you just saying
that he's a college baseball player.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
No, I would outgrind him. I don't work him like
if I focused, I don't work them and take him. Yeah,
And it hurts for me to say he's a little
better than me, Like it really.
Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
Hurt shot Gran that it'd be like, yeah, look, if
I just played a little bit more, I hit a
few more balls.
Speaker 1 (01:19:04):
But I do think that's true. I do think that's true.
But I don't think right now I'm better than him.
Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
Okay, right now.
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
So as irrational and disillusioned as I can be at
times in my own confidence or in my in my
own abilities, because I think I have to be irrational
about what I can do or I'll never be able
to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
I still am a tick lower than he is, but
you're there. You're close.
Speaker 1 (01:19:27):
If I put a little work into it, I take him.
Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
See, that's that's where I was getting to. It was
a plus. Maybe we'll do it again. Maybe I hit him.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
I would hate to ask on a weekend again anytime soon. No,
that would be difficult because I know they kind of,
you know, pull some strings. Were you as the first
group out? Uh? They offered that to us because we
had a drone and we flew a drone and we
shot footage on the drone. Helped the drone got well,
terrible to all, I mean, no, excellent until Brandon crashed
into the water.
Speaker 3 (01:19:56):
He crashed into the river. How did you crash in
the drone? Battered? Oh yeah, okay, so it wasn't your fault. Well, yeah,
it was fault, he didn't it was. It was it's
my drone. We had never used it before. Is this
the one that you bought to go get the drones
out here? That you're going to attack the drones? Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
Yes, And by the way, they don't they don't show
up anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
I haven't seen one market house either.
Speaker 1 (01:20:15):
No, so yeah, all of a sudden, I'm swinging and
I see Brandon doing this real artsy shot of it's
floating back and forth, and I'm like, I guess Brandon's
got some idea of how to shoot this really cool
and then all of a sudden, the right of the river.
Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
Just a battery power?
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
Do you fish it out? Oh? That's so good. Everybody,
Thank you for listening. We hope you had as much
fun as we did. Kick off. Kevin is back. He's
got two babies. Now we'll come back, bro.
Speaker 4 (01:20:41):
Thanks boy, It's good to be back.
Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
Is it good to be back?
Speaker 1 (01:20:44):
Is it hard to leave in the morning?
Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:20:46):
For sure?
Speaker 1 (01:20:46):
Like yeah, is it hard to leave because you know,
there's so much to do in your wife it's like
please stay in help or because you literally just like
I don't want to leave the kids.
Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
I don't want to leave the kids.
Speaker 3 (01:20:54):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (01:20:54):
Yeah, And then I always say a few hours in, hey,
how you doing.
Speaker 3 (01:20:57):
You're good, You're good, You're good.
Speaker 4 (01:20:58):
Yeah, So it's hard to leave them, like give him
like fits in the head and like, all right, I'll
see you guys later.
Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
On thanks to kick Off Kevin. They to Brandon Ray
doing excellent work here and with the drone bod we learn, Boy,
did we learn a lot.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
Check He's Matt Castle on Bobby Bones. We've had lots
