Speaker 1 (00:00):
Kevin O'Connell saw on Sunday with Carson Wentz what I've
been seeing all season long with JJ McCarthy, And you
cannot leave this episode without hearing Kevin O'Connell's word salad.
Kevin O'Connell is a professional word salad press conference talker
(00:25):
where he spins around and talks for five to fifteen
minutes and says absolutely nothing. And this latest one about
the Vikings QB controversy is a word salad for the ages,
and I'm going to play it in just a moment,
But first I need to tell you about zero res
(00:45):
carpet cleaning. If you want to get three carpets clean
for only one hundred and twenty nine dollars, contact zero
Resminnesota dot com. Zero res is the best spell forwards
or backwards that spells the same. Tell my friends at
zero as you heard it from the brawl with Timpaul,
and get three carpets cleaned for just one hundred and
(01:09):
twenty nine dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
All right, Vikings win forty eight three.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Carson Wentz looks much more smooth and fluid than McCarthy
has looked in seven of eight quarters this season, and
now the Vikings have a real quarterback controversy on their
hands because if Carson Wentz plays well against Pittsburgh and
(01:37):
against Cleveland, who only surrendered ten points to the Green
Bay Packers, the Vikings organization is going to somehow find
a way to word salad itself into this QB controversial
(01:58):
situation because McCarthy was supposed to be the QB. He
was supposed to be the guy. This was his team,
his season. Aaron Jones, Oh, he reminds me of Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Back there.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
The Vikings passed on Darnold, Daniel Jones and Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Because of JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
So the next question that everybody is looking to answer is,
if Carson Wentz plays well in the next two weeks,
does JAJ McCarthy get the job after the bye week
when we all know he would be healthy by then.
(02:43):
And I went on this podcast and shared my conspiracy
theory last week. If Carson Wentz plays well these next
two weeks, the Vikings are going to come up with
some bullshit and say, well, McCarthy's ankle just not quite
(03:05):
there yet. He needs some more reps and some more
recovery time for him to be on confident on that ankle,
and we've already started to see that come into fruition.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
We've already seen.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Kevin O'Connell bounce around this idea talk about the McCarthy webs.
I mean, just take a moment and look at this
word salad from Kevin O'Connell about McCarthy and Carson Wentz.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
He is, Yeah, I think, you know, the first and foremost,
he's got to get healthy and then that process. It's
not just I don't think it's one of those things
where it's and if he's healthy the night before a game,
we're gonna just throw him out there and say.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Hey, there it is. There is I think we saw.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
You know, as as phenomenal as he was getting prepared
for the Atlanta game. He did miss practice that week.
And when you're in the phasing of building up the
ten thousand reps and ten thousand hours of what it
takes to play the position at a very high level,
which we know JJ McCarthy is going to do, you
can't cut.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Corners on that.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
And that also doesn't require an answer on that question today.
I think we're our goal was to win a football
game yesterday. We're in the day after that, we've had
our players in, we're preparing for another top tier opponent.
I think we've got to have another really good week
of preparation, and then you add on the layers to
(04:40):
travel and making sure our players have the utmost confidence
in how we're handling the trip and building it, you know,
progressively throughout the week till we get another opportunity which
we're really excited about.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Was that not the most word, Salid answered? The history
of press conferences, there was a few times in that
statement where Kevin O'Connell hinted that McCarthy, if Carson wentz
play as well, would not be ready, because oh, it's
not like he's ready and we're just gonna throw him
back out there.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
You can't cut corners on this stuff. You can't cut corners.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
And what was so fascinating about it is the NFL
on CBS cut to McCarthy on Sunday and he wasn't
even wearing a boot anymore. He's just standing there walking around.
He told Tracy Wilson that he felt amazing. And the
Vikings are in direct conflict because their roster is ready
(05:39):
to win now and McCarthy isn't. And I don't think
I've ever been more right about a topic than this topic,
because this has been the topic I've been hashing all
off season, and this is the biggest issue. The Vikings
team and James McCarthy are on different timelines. We're seeing
(06:01):
Kevin O'Connell answer questions in such a word selling type
way because he doesn't want to come on and admit
that McCarthy's not ready. He's not gonna say that McCarthy
failed the test in two weeks. The Vikings have a
quarterback conflict because you don't bring in Ryan Kelly, will Fries,
(06:24):
Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave and then start a quarterback
that's not ready to win football games. In that meeting
room with those players, do you think that Kevin O'Connell
was telling them, Yeah, thanks for signing the team. It's
(06:45):
gonna be a process. We're gonna really work at it
and hopefully in a year.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Or two will be super Bowl ready.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
That's not what he said. He said, you're signing with
this team and we will be super Bowl ready this season.
And then they signed the dotted line because they looked
at the roster. But what Kevin O'Connell needed to do
was convinced those players that J. J. McCarthy was ready.
(07:12):
And if he puts McCarthy back out there, a bushing
looks really, really bad. So the only possible way McCarthy
gets back on the field this season is if Carson
Wentz really stinks up the joint, and if he doesn't stink,
if Carson Wentz plays well, the Vikings are just going
(07:32):
to delay this thing as long as they can go.
He needs more reps, he needs more confidence on that ankle,
and that is the formula because the last narrative that
they want the media writing is that McCarthy's ready, but
we don't have confidence in him. McCarthy's good to go,
he's one hundred percent healthy and his ankle's good. But
(07:56):
Whens is playing so good we can't put him back
out there. That is not what's going to happen. So
very fascinating QB conflict situation currently happening for the Vikings.
