Speaker 1 (00:00):
Vikings conspiracy theories. This podcast is loaded with content, all right, Jake,
The Vikings win convincingly against the Bengals. Yes, the Vikings
won convincingly, but I don't view this as a gateway
win to more wins. I'd rather view this as an
(00:21):
anomaly because yes, Isaiah Rodgers made some plays, but I
viewed it as the Bengals played so poorly that the
Vikings all they could do was dominate the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I don't disagree to some extent obviously. Now do you
remember the score when when they were the Bengals were
driving right before halftime in seventeen to three, score game
seventeen three else and if they do score.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
And then they get the ball out of halftime too.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Again, the way the Bengals were playing, obviously, you know,
Isaiah Rodgers makes that play, It makes the big you
know alson Now we're up twenty four to three, and
the games from much over. So the Bengals were at
least had a sniff of a chance even go you know,
close to halftime. So yeah, it's more of a phenomenal. Again,
nothing offensively should really blow your mind. Here Wentz was fine, obviously,
(01:09):
Now I will say, you know, people are going anybody
could have won that game. Well, yeah, sure, but he's
still at least you know, they went out and scored
that first touchdown drive of the game. That does make
a big difference, right, setting the got three now, obviously
getting Mason going was phenomenal. That Scott looked okay to
his little scat back back up kind of guy, I
will say, I mean, I knew our defense was dominant.
(01:32):
Chase Brown had ten carries for three yards. That is
a bummer. When you see the numbers of it, it's
just kind of like, oh wow, I will say, convincing fashion.
I think we made the right choice for the third
screen quarterback position, Max Brozmer two for four for twenty
nine yards. Brett Rippian oh for oh with a sack.
(01:55):
So I think clearly Brozemer was the right choice. And
whatever intel Rippyan had about the Vikings, you know, maybe
he's an undercover agent, maybe he should have loyalty to
the Viking.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Ken forget about Desmond Rider.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I think that Ritter told Harrison Smith to deflect it
right into the hands of Isaiah Rodgers, and then he
told Isaiah Rodgers to punch out the ball and then
you know what.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
You should do is you should take it for a touchdown.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
So that's the kind of intel that you get from
former players of other teams that you wouldn't fully understand.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
But at the end of the day, again, Wentz did
exactly what you'd want a thirty two year old at
this point, you know, six five six years of being
a more or less more or less a career backup
at this point. You know, he didn't turn the ball over.
He made some nice plays with the defense, like the
Vikings regardless, and obviously I'm not always going to be
this successful, but just being able to have a defense
(03:00):
is good. You know, he can get by the nexpecial
the next two games, probably just kind of doing what
he's doing.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
The way that I view turnovers in the NFL, and
I think this points through the personal bias of Vikings fans.
If Carson Wentz or Jordan Mason or McCarthy commit a turnover,
the immediate reaction not only from the fan base but
(03:28):
from the organizations.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
You've got to take care of the ball better.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
You'll almost blame the player that has the ball more
than crediting the defense for making a play. The Vikings defense, Yeah,
forces a turnover, And what I've seen is everyone wants
to overlook the Bengals side of how poorly they played
(03:53):
in manufacturing these turnovers, and everyone wants to credit is
at Rodgers. Yes, he made some spittacker plays, had the
highest defensive rating ever in NFL history with a ninety
nine point nine. But we can't forget to understand that
the Bengals played so bad.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
This is never gonna happen again.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
I don't think they dominated it as much as the
scoreboard indicates, because the Bengals just played so so poorly.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
We've talked about it in the past, but I still
think people struggle to understand how difficult it is to
not fumble at times when you got guys punching out
the way that they do and the way they're trained
to try to force fumbles. In my high school career,
had one career catch and I fumbled it on the
way down because the guy punched it out of my
arm as I was as he was tackling me, and
(04:44):
I thought I had a good grip on it, right,
I did what I was supposed to do. If a
hand gets on that ball, it's still pretty darn hard.
When someone just gets that perfect punch right on that football.
Once a few happened the Bengals kind of more so
in the second half, just kind of they were done.
I mean it was over too that they did this
side that interview with Zach Taylor right that, Yes, that.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Was ridiculous at halftime, go ahead, right whatever.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
You definitely probably should interview Koc and talk about how
awesome it was that as a Rogers made these plays
and whatever, and y I did him.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
After the first quarter so they couldn't do him again.
You know, when a coach leaves the interviewer as the
interviewer is still talking, it doesn't say that thanks for
the time or whatever, just books it straight out. You know,
you've hit a sour subject that maybe should have just
avoided that interview all together. Now the Vikings face the Steelers,
(05:38):
and now we get into controversy time, because if Carson
Wentz plays well, and I'm not saying four hundred yards well,
but if Carson Wentz these next two games combines for
four touchdowns and one interception, averages around two hundred and
twenty yards per game against two high quality defenses.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Does J. J.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
McCarthy get the job back in a potential Carson Wentz
revenge game against the Eagles after the bye week.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yes, I mean the short not the not exciting answers. Yes,
he gets it what he.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Think, So I don't know. I think they delay this
as long as possible.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
I think there's a line where, depending like a certain level,
I should say of how good Wentz plays, that he
could keep the job for longer. There is a threshold
there at some point where if Wentz is playing out
of his mind. But again, I think if we see
game manager wins for the next two weeks and he's
(06:47):
adequate and they win, I don't think that's enough to
deter you from going back to JJ again. The Brons
have the number one defense in the league right now,
you know, if he lights them up. Okay, no, maybe
you delayed a week or two, So maybe that is
something they consider as the schedule, and I should say too,
I mean, it depends on his ankle. I know we've
(07:07):
you know, contacted Hayes two to four week injury that
is pretty common for that, you know, ankle sprains is
like a three week is pretty common. But that doesn't
mean you're always one hundred percent either, And as a quarterback,
you don't want to be hobbling around, especially a rookie quarterback, right,
Josh Allen hobbling around on a sore ankle is one
thing because he can just make plays happen, right, and
me just trust him throwing a rookie essentially out there
(07:31):
on a half an ankle, right, that is different. You know,
he's somebody who you need him at full health if
you expect him to play even decently well, So there
is truth to that. Whereas like he might be good
enough to play health wise, but is he healthy enough
to play well?
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Right?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
That is going to be the question where you're talking
about kind of the delay. You know he might be cleared,
But again, do you want a rookie quarterback hobbling around
against the Eagles or against the Lions?
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Right?
Speaker 3 (07:58):
I mean that's to some extent you're hindering your offense
and risking further injury because he can't protect himself by
running in, by doing all the things he needs to do.
I don't think Carson Wentz his play is going to
have much of a chance of keeping McCarthy off the field.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Interesting, I view this.
Speaker 3 (08:18):
Differently, Is this the first time we should have some
sort of like celebration. We have a difference of opinion.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
We're clashing.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
We should practice like one segment a week or like
one little segment a week where we do like the
ESPN like first take style, where like we just both
have to take complete pull their opposites and make it
ridiculous and stupid and personal.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
The one time you caught the ball, you fubbled the ball.
You are not adequate to speak about this topic.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Yeah, oh.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Oh, there's twisting the knife in my soul there a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Did you play the game, Tim, And that's when you responded.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Yeah, exactly how many catches do you have?
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Tim?
Speaker 3 (09:03):
How long have you coached clearly about football? If you
haven't coached, yeah, gotcha beat.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
By the time the Eagles game starts. This has nothing
to do with Jaj McCarthy's kne injury. If Carson Wentz
goes out these next two weeks and just sucks, Carson
Wentz goes out there, throws for seventy five yards, has
three picks one touchdown, MacArthur.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Would be on the field against the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
If Wentz plays well and does throw the four touchdowns
one interception.
Speaker 3 (09:32):
Thing.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
I think that thing gets delayed and the Vikings with
that Super Bowl roster, because what happens if Wentz plays
well and plays even a little bit better than a
serviceable thirty two year old backup and really kind of
finds his stride and has one last ceiling season as
(09:54):
Vikings quarterback, which is possible considering the roster. One of
the that happens, McCarthy comes back on the field, performs
like you did in seven of eight quarters against the
Great Eagles team, and it's like, the answer is obvious.
(10:15):
We've got a bench McCarthy and go to back to
Carson Wentz if we want to reach the full capability
of this Viking Super Bowl roster.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
To piggyback off that a little bit. Again, I still
think they will try to force JJ in there barring
Carson Wentz. You know, renaissance right A's a serious one.
But I will say this, but on one area where
I think people overreact, the idea that if if they
do delay this decision, right JJ McCarthy being delayed, like
(10:48):
let's say they do for two or three more weeks,
they give Wentz the ball or maybe ends up being
the whole season, right this timeline, Where elseon Wentz is
just playing like MVP style right and just winning games,
people will be so freaking out. You know, JJ McCarthy's
twenty two years old. His career is not over. He's
not twenty seven or twenty eight or twenty nine. He
has yet to hit his prime. So my point being,
(11:10):
would JJ McCarthy's career be over if Carson Wentz comes
out and just as an absolute baller and then you
come back to JJ McCarthy next year. No, of course
not now. Obviously there's some doubts because it's like, well,
can he take over car you know, he couldn't take
over Carson Wentz his job or like whatever, blah blah like.
Obviously what we saw wasn't great to begin with for
two games, but just the overreaction of like, we're still
(11:33):
dealing with a twenty two year old guy who had
limited passing opportunities, will stay in college and then miss
this whole rookie year and now has another injury in
the second year. Minor of course, but just you know,
missing games and not getting the reps and stuff like that.
You know, so he still has time to work and
improve and all the sorts of things. Again, I don't
(11:55):
think it would be like a death sentence his career,
but I know that the media. They maye the media
as much as just like the fans would be you know,
absolutely ten out of ten on the you know worry scale,
right of is McCarthy possible to play quarterback in the future.
Kos's kind of made it really clear that JJ McCarthy's
(12:15):
going to be the guy. They're going to stick with
Jji McCarthy like that's been kind of his messaging. They're
not going to leave any ambiguity there.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
With that said, although I think they will delay McCarthy
as long as they could go. If Carson Wentz plays well,
I don't think he will play well against the Steelers
and Browns.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
You know.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
In the Longest Yard, Adam Sandler Paul Crew suggests to
the warden to have like a mop up game, a
game where they just dominate a team and kick their
butt and get that confidence up.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
I think the Bengals game was that mop up game.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
And you're gonna go from worst defense in the NFL
against the Bengals to TJ Watt, Jalen Ramsey, Cam Haywardheeler's
identity is their defense and We're about to really see
if Carson Wentz can steer this ship in the right direction.
(13:14):
And that's why I come also with the conclusion if
he plays well, he's gonna continue starting because he is
playing against two top defenses these next two weeks in
the Steelers and Browns, and a challenging environment.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
But I don't think he will.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
I actually am coming away with the conclusion that the
Vikings are going to lose against the Steelers because of
how impactful they will be defensively.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Counter you again sort of, you know, Steelers come in
two and one. They gave up thirty two points to
the Jets, thirty one to the Seahawks, and then the
fourteen to the Patriots. The Bengals are twenty fifth in
total yards given up. The Steelers are twenty eighth. You know,
(14:03):
so so far through three weeks, the Steelers have not
now again history they have the players to be a
good defense.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
You know.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Ever, expectations wise, before the season, obviously you would have
pegged the Steelers as a top you know, whatever number
you want to make up, right five or top ten
defense for sure, But point being, so far, it has
not played itself out that way. Right The only team
they've shut down was Drake May and the Patriots, who
are one and two and don't look great at all.
Right again, Justin Pields scored thirty two points on them.
(14:34):
That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for a great defense.
But like I said, I think both is true. They're
probably not in that top five, top ten tier anymore.
I doubt they're the twenty eighth best defense. But the
Browns one is almost a scarier one to me. They
give up about two hundred yards per game so far
in three games. Their offense is questionable at absolute best.
(14:57):
You know, Joe Flick was not amazing, but they'd be
the backers. These next two weeks looked like kind of favorable,
maybe fifty to fifties whatever. You know, I think both
they're fifty to fifty at best, and you know, they're
both decent teams. Can the Browns put together a ten
to seven win or a ten to six win or
a nine to six week, Yeah, I think that's very possible. Again,
(15:19):
the Steelers game, I think we'll have a lot more
offense than we think.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
The Browns give up forty one to the Ravens two weeks.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Yeah, the Ravens win is hard right there. Week one
they were great, Week three they were great, and then
the Ravens just kind of steamrolled them. It's hard to know, right,
is it just the Ravens are I mean, I guess
they're only one and two because they lost the lines now,
so maybe there are the Rapes or the Ravens trade
Lamar Jackson.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
Before we wrap up this podcast about the Vikings uh
score prediction Steelers, I'll go first. I'm gonna say Steelers
win twenty to thirteen.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
There's are definitely gonna be some field wals, so I'm
tarting to figure out where.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
I also said fourteen, but like Vikings are gonna score
two touchdowns without a field this be foc on there somewhere,
so they'll score a touchdown and two field goals.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
Yeah, that's kind of what I was going with. I
was going with Vikings win. I was thinking twenty seven,
so three touchdowns two figgles to twenty.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
It's been a it's been a podcast of clashes.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
No, that's okay, not even playing either.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
And look at what cordial we were, you know, I
think we're still friends after this.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Right, That's how you think that's what you think. We're
going a rally.
Speaker 3 (16:36):
It was a good run all of my.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Litchfield Dragon Instagram fans, and we're going to be marching
