Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume. Brilliant drive by Bryce Yawn. You see the
elusiveness would be a bright yeah. I'm not showing to
the right Never hurt doesn't have happy feet. Six fires here. Awareness,

(00:35):
understanding recognition, awareness, understanding, recognition. That kid is good, That
kid is good. That kid is good, that kid is good.
All right, everybody, Welcome to another edition of the Bryce
Young Podcast. Coming off a huge one against Arkansas, a
huge performance. Let me go ahead and bring in the
start of the show, QB one himself at the University

(00:58):
of Alabama, Ice Young, Bryce, what's up, man? What's good?
How are you doing? Man? I'm doing great. Uh, congratulations
on on a huge week. And look, I know you're
a humble guy, and I can sit here and ask,
you know, what's it like for you to throw for
all those yards and everything like that. But it seemed
to me like everything was hitting fore all offensively last Saturday.
You were in a rhythm. You know. The chemistry with

(01:20):
the wide receivers continues to get better throughout the year,
especially vertically. Just talk about the game, man, I mean
five sixty yards Bryce, five touchdowns, Jmo and and Met
you combined for the most yards ever between an Alabama
wide receiver duo. You know where I'm from, we call
that a pretty good day at the office. Yeah. Yeah,
we definitely did some good stuff and you know that
stuff that we have to continue to build off of. Um.

(01:42):
But you know, getting a chance to watch the film
and see how things went, UM, there's a lot of
really good and UM, you know, people of you know,
just how everything is. People will trying to spind it.
I was like, oh, you know, you had a great gamer.
You know you had these great stats. In reality, UM,
you know, it's it's it's all a team effort. There's
there's nothing I can do without my line protective from
me and um, you know, giving me that relief in

(02:03):
the run games. Same thing with the running backs protecting
and doing what they have to do in the run game.
The receivers obviously I'm getting open and running great rousemaking
get catches. So, UM, anything that's that's individual or it
seems like it's something I did, it's really, um, you know,
it's really everyone on the team, you know, chipping in
playing their part. But you know, at the same time, um, us,
you know, to continue to build off those positives. There's

(02:25):
still stuff that we want to clean up. Um, still
stuff that we feel like we can improve on for
me individually and for us as that you know, as
an offense collectively. Um, so you know, we just have
to take it good with the bat and then keep improving.
You know, two brights. When I'm watching, it seems like,
and especially these last three or four weeks, that the
timing in your head of knowing when to take off
two and running with the ball. I mean, we know

(02:46):
you're slippery, you're tough to tackle, but it seems to
be like you're even more decisive now when you're running.
Is that just getting into the flow of the game
and letting the timing match up, Because again, you know,
you look at the passing yards and that's great, but
you're extending drives too with your feet and it seems
to be much more efficient as the season has gone on.
What do you attribute that? Uh, yeah, I guess it's

(03:06):
you know, it's partially with reps and then um, yeah,
it's kind of just kind of a flow of the
game type of think. Um, you know, we're always trying
to take what the defense gives us, and um, you know,
there was a lot of you know, it was kind
of more scrambling last week, and a lot of times
people think, oh, you ran a lot of the other scramble.
That must have mean like your line didn't protect well
or um or they you know, they got beat or something.

(03:30):
But in reality was actually the opposite. You know, it's
a lot of three man three man and rushing. You know,
when defenses do that, they're kind of relying on three
guys to try to to someone to get through and
get pressure. And up front, we did a great job
of of you know, of protecting and doing a good
job and giving me time to kind of operate. Sometimes
it was just drop eight and there wasn't really too

(03:51):
much um you know, too many windows, so it was
just taking with the defense game and taking off. So um,
it's all kind of dictated by you know, two week
two week played up lay type of things. So um again,
it's stuff that I feel like I'm you know, still
have a lot of room to approve there, definitely, And
and you know, Bryce said, is it something where you
wait till the end of the year and then look

(04:11):
at the numbers or do you look at the five
sixty and you're like, wow, I mean that that's a
pretty good performance. Do you even look at the yardage
or are you just looking at the film and moving on? Yeah?
Really just looking on the film. I mean, you know,
I like, especially during the game, I'm not really aware
of like where I'm at after each throw or driver
sere like, you know, we're on the sideline figuring out

(04:33):
what we're gonna do the next play. Obviously, when you're
in the game, you're you know, you're you're figuring out
what the next play is gonna be. So, um, it's
not even something I really realized until you know, somebody
mentioned it to me after the game, and um, you know,
it's it's a positive, but looking at the film, you
still see stuff you have to improve on. I have
to get better on stuff that you know, I went back,
stuff that I missed, and you know as as a root,

(04:55):
as offense, you know, it's it's there's still stuff for
us to work on, place for us to go. So, um,
that doesn't really go into account of how I know,
assess film or prepare um because you know, I know,
you know, individually and as a collective, you know, we're
just trying to maximize our potential. So we still have
more improvement life now. I know, you know, turning your

(05:15):
attention to this week, you know, kind of a big game.
I guess you could say the iron Ball, which in
my opinion is the greatest rivalry in all of sports.
You know, before we kind of get into it, what
does what does it mean to you? You know, as
the guy that signed with Alabama, obviously you know about
the Iron Bowl. When when you hear the term iron Ball,
what does that mean to you? Yeah, there's something that
I've known about my entire life and something that's obviously

(05:37):
really being in all of college football the entire country,
but obviously has a special meaning here in the state,
and you know, being involved in it from last year
to this year, just being around him being um, you know,
in the culture. You know, it really means a lot
of It means a lot to everyone, means a lot
to those that you know that are in the state.
Those support means a lot to us as a team,

(05:57):
to the coach, that means a lot to me individually. Um,
you know, this is something that, um, we all take
a huge amount of pride in. We all understand the
magnitude of the Iron Bowl and this robbery and what
it means. So um, you know we we know we
have to do it. We you know, everything we can
to you know, be the most repaired we can be
on Saturday, you know, being out on Cali. When was

(06:19):
the first time you heard about the Iron Bowl? What
was it when you started getting recruited by Alabama? Like
did you know about it? And not at all? That's
something I heard about for you know, for hoever long
I've been a conscious football fan, like um, you know,
you always that's something that's always on TV, something they're
always talking about on UM, you know when I'm younger,
on yestermay and whatever it is. So it's something that

(06:39):
I've always been conscious of, always kind of knew about
that speaks volumes to you know, how big it is
because Southern California, you know, there's not this huge investment
and um and like Alabama, but still for it to
reach that far and even when I was young, for
you to understand, I mean at least here how big
it was. And then now that I'm in that, I
really understand and you know the magnitude of it. So, UM,

(07:02):
that's something you kind of always known about. You know,
we always talked about the faceless opponent. Is it harder
this week though, you know, for it to be a
faceless opponent because it is Auburn. Is there any is
there any like not slippage in there? But is there
any you know, any wiggle room because it's the iron Ball?
Or is it just another another another game, another Saturday. Yeah,
you know, we we we we we still have to um.

(07:24):
For us, it's about making sure that we you know,
we still handle business and during the week and we
still prepare to you know, how we have to prepare,
we still practice, how we have to practice, still work,
how we have to work because you know, all that's
going to be extremely necessary, um, in order to be successful.
But um, you know there's also um, you know, we
also understand again just the magic for the game and
what it means. Um. So we know that it's a

(07:47):
really really good team in a really really hostile environment
that we're gonna have to go into and play. So, um,
you know, we have to we have to do all
the week can during the week. And it's a lot
about us just preparing and making sure that we do
all the week can during the week to it to
put ourselves in the best situation. Yeah, and you know,
you've had a bunch of experiences coming up to this,
you know, on the road at home. What are a

(08:09):
couple of things that just one or two that that
you probably learned from the most playing the SEC schedule,
you know, the out of conference to against Miami, but
having this much experience because you know, you start the
years as you know, quote unquote young guy, but by
this time of the year, nobody's a young guy if
you've been playing long enough. Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely a
value experience that you learned throughout the year, just being

(08:29):
put into different scenarios and situations. Um. You know, it's
stuff that you know, obviously you can't simulate. So UM,
whether it's whether it's um, you know, being in a
hostile environment against whoever we're playing, Um, you know, whether
it's a you know it's it's specific two minute forming
at whatever situations. UM, that's just a valuable experience that
you know, you take and you grow from. So UM.

(08:51):
You know, for me, it's just trying to make sure
that I can learn all I can for all those
experiences that I've had throughout the year and then grow
and build off. Yeah, and you know, looking forward to
you got the Iron Bowl and and then you know,
looking at the sec West, the way you guys are
set up right now, having a chance in Atlanta. You know, Bryce,
you know, we always talk about the process and this,
that and the other. How how hard is it just

(09:14):
as an individual and and you know, speaking for yourself,
I know you can only speak for yourself, but being
able to stay in that routine and stay in that
process when all this hisman odds and higsmen high. But
I'm sure everybody around campus is like, good job, right,
it's a good game whatever whatever. You know, Just are
you so used to that routine now that it's really
just kind of another thing. Yeah, I know, it's it's
not hard at all because um, you know, just for

(09:36):
me and it's all about um, you know, whatever individual
stuff comes again, that's something that's external and they don't have,
you know, direct control over. So for me, the goal
is now the goal has always been his twin games,
the compissar goals as a team. So for me, all
that is is focusing on this week again, bringing the
best to practice into the faciliti eaes and every day

(09:59):
and put ourselves the best situation to you know, to
perform on on Saturday. But any of the any of
the other stuff is is again that's just you know
those external factors that that coach is always talking about. So, um,
you know, the goals and you know what I'm striving
for hasn't changed at all. And for me, it's all
about just getting a win on Saturday, and that's all

(10:19):
I'm working for us, all the work for his team.
So anything that um, you know, extracurricular isn't isn't really
on my life, no doubt. And you know too, we
we talk about balance all the time, Briance, you know,
being balanced in the past and the run and what
it seems to me like when you guys are really cooking.
You know, Brian Robinson, if you can just speak for
a second on him, you know that guy is the

(10:40):
guy that can handle thirty carries, He can handle twenty carries.
Just talk about you know how much confidence that gives
you being able to you know, the play action game
and boots and waggles and stuff like that. Having a
guy like Brian Robinson that when he runs for four yards,
it's a punishing four yards and over the course of
the game that just takes such a toll on the deep. Yeah,
I know, it's extreme. You know, we're extremely uh Lett,

(11:02):
you have be right back there. You know, he's someone
who definitely makes my job way easier when you have
a physical pack like that. And also on that's that's
super smart. It's obviously been around, understands the offense, um
knows where you're supposed to be on every play, knows
exactly you know where how to find holes. And someone
who's you know who shifting and strong and then someone

(11:24):
who can you know, break off a long run. You know,
it's just a complete back and you know those just
don't grow on trees, so they haven't be ropped there.
And to see you know, like you said, he's been
he's been getting a lot of carries, he's been having
to you know, do a lot for us, um and
for him to step up like he has, um, you know,
I mean it's not surprising for me and something that
I knew, Um what happened. It wasn't anything that I doubted,

(11:47):
but just to see it happened, it's um. You know,
I'm I'm glad that you know he's kind of able
to produce how he has no doubt and again, like
you said, you know, it just makes your job a
lot easier when the defense has to account for both.
But you know what, we have the Iron Bowl. We
know that that's big during this week. But there's also
a little holiday this week, a little Thanksgiving action. I

(12:08):
do gotta ask you, Bryce, what is your favorite holiday overall?
I mean some people rate Thanksgiving in front of Christmas.
Some put Christmas in front of Thanksgiving. Personally, I'm a
Christmas guy. You know, inside I enjoyed Christmas. Not that
I don't. I'm with you, yeah, yeah, with you definitely
definitely Christmas for me. Christmas is definitely top one for me.
What what's what's your friend What's what is your go

(12:29):
to think? I don't say turkey, that's too easy. What's
your go to Thanksgiving side? What? What's the Thanksgiving side
for me? And cheese for my grandmother? Um, yeah, I'm
not going I'm not a big turkey guy. Like oh
you from Ham Like okay, so I'm not a big
Turkey guy. Um, but like mac and cheese definitely is

(12:51):
my favorite. Like I trying to stay away from it
like normally, but like Thanksgiving, I got you so for sure.
And cheese yeah those are yeah, Like I put mac
and cheese one but like, yeah, it was like close
to like, Okay, what you have you ever had deep
fried turkey? I had? Bryce, Bryce, Listen, you can't don't

(13:16):
give up on there's so many people listen to show
right now that that are with me. Don't give up
on turkey until you've had a deep pride turkey. I'm
just telling you, don't. You gotta try it. I know
it may sound like it's terrible for you, because it is,
but it's also the best version of turkey. I mean,
you talk about going great with mac and cheese when
we've got Cajun deep fried turkey, your regular deep pride
turkey on time you injected. It's the move. Just trust

(13:38):
me on this. Trust me. I believe it. I believe it.
I gotta try. What what are some things you know,
and obviously you know that the easiest ones bubble to
the top, But what are some things that you're thankful for?
You know? On this Thanksgiving what are a few things
that kind of come to mind? Yeah, No, there's a
lot for me to be to be grateful for. There's
a lot of blessings in my life. Um, you know,

(14:00):
definitely definitely blessed to have the family that I do
supports as that I do with my parents, you know,
being around you know, my entire family, just just being
around and supporting me and to be able to have
them and lean on them is definitely something that I'm
that I'm that I'm thankful for my my teammates, Um,
you know, them being again on and off fulfill them

(14:22):
just being brothers for me and you know us, you know,
just being able to come together as as definitely another
big blessing. You know, the coaching staff, everyone who's who
supported me. Um, you know, I'm kind of you know,
I'm blessed to have you know, public supporters and people
who supported me, and um, you know, not even can
say that, So that that's definitely something else I'm thankful for.

(14:44):
But there's there's a lot, I mean, I'm I'm I'm
thoroughly blessed. So there's there's really I could be here
for a minute, but um, there's definitely a lot for
me individuals just to be thankful for for sure. And
and I know I'm kind of you know a little
bit random right here, but you know, we talked about
the Iron Bowl and Arburn labm and and coach Saban's
a funny guy. And I know you know this, I

(15:05):
don't know a lot of people realize he can be
funny that he wants to be. Does he ever talk
about the kick six at all? Does he ever like
chock about it or anything like that? You know, and
I'm trying to you know, put him on the front
street or anything, but you ever joked about it or
anything like that? That's very funny, yes, pretty ironic. All
I can tell you is, yes, he has talked about it,
but it's definitely not a joking. Man. You know that

(15:27):
that doesn't shock me. That's still the craziest hitting to
a game I've ever seen. But now I've always wondered
if he ever jokes about it, like you know, kicking
field goals at they end be like how far does
it be? Like all right, make sure three? Or whatever
it was. But now I'm sure I appreciate your answering
it though, But no, you know Bryce too, Looking back
on the season, is there one or two plays that

(15:48):
really kind of stand out to you, you know that
that you look back on and we're like, man, that
that was a big play that kind of propelled us
for orders it all kind of one you know, kind
of mushed together. Yeah, I wouldn't say it's like a
specific way. I think there are certain you know, I
think there are certain steps we can take offensively, but
I don't I wouldn't say like a specific play. I

(16:08):
think honestly, a lot of our growth comes from one
you know, it comes from really practicing like this step
we take a week after there's something that we emphasize,
Like I feel like that's kind of been our biggest
group developments when we when if a certain group, the
person gets challenged or it's a certain point of emphasis
that we know they're really emphasizing that week, and then
we come out and you know, we we take it,

(16:31):
you know, we take it hard, and then we come
out and we improve and we change, um, you know,
in that aspect, I feel like that's really kind of
the biggest, kind of some of the biggest things we've done,
um as a unit. So I wouldn't say it's one
like specific player drive, but a lot of times it's
just it's just, um, you know, one specific area that
we focus on and then you see like a step up,

(16:51):
like a visible is change from one week to the next.
I think that's a lot of kind of Our biggest
growth is coming. They call that progress. It's so much fun.
We'll be able to see what you're practice going to
get better and then it work on the field. But
Brice Man, great stuff as usual. It's always fun every
week when we get to chop it up. Did I
miss out on anything? Got the Iron Bowl coming up? Thanksgiving?
Is there anything you need to add before we wrap

(17:12):
it up? You're all good? I thank you good everything
for sure? Man, Well you know I appreciate it. Make
sure everybody go and hit that subscribe button to the
Volume YouTube channel, turn on the notifications. Excited to get
back with Bryce next week after a big game in
the Iron Bowl. But until next time, We'll catch you later.
