Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume Brilliant Dry by Bryce Young. You see the
elusiveness would be a Bryce Ye show the right never
(00:24):
hurry doesn't have a happy feet six fires here. Awareness
understanding recognition, awareness, understanding recognition, that kid is good, that
kid is good, That kid is good, that kid is good.
(00:46):
All right, everybody, Welcome to another edition of the Bryce
Young Podcast. Very excited uh to get Bryce back in here.
Talk about coming off the bye week. Got a big
week this week, But first let me get the start
of the show in here. Alabama QB one, Mr Bryce Young, Bryce,
what's up man? How you doing doing good? Man? Another
week y'all coming off of bye week? How you feeling
right now? Feel good? Feel good? Um good? Little bye
(01:09):
week good? You know, good opportunity to kind of get
an extra weekend of preparation. So feel good for sure.
And we all know the college football playoff rankings came
out and still early in this, that and the other.
But you know, is that something you guys were aware
of where you all just watching it messing around or
kind of did you have your eye on it at all? Uh? Yeah,
not really. I mean, you know that's kind of falls
(01:30):
into the line of those external factors that we kind
of try to block out, so, you know, stuff we
don't really have control over. We don't you know, we
don't really put too much stock into or paid too
much attention to, especially this time of year. So um,
you know, we have a big game this weekend, so
um all our focus has been on that. Yeah, you know,
a certain coach I'm trying to remember who it was
invented the term rat poison. I feel like that maybe
it a little bit if if I could narrow it down.
(01:52):
But and bryce, you know, during the bye week, Yeah,
I know, you guys don't get a lot of days off,
but you get to watch little football, did you did
you guys hang out? Did you in the line hang out?
Did y'all you know kind of maybe go get something
or what was the play? Yeah? Yeah, we actually were
able to, Um, you know, I was able to go
out and hang out with the line. We went to
um Logan's roadhouse. Actually, um that's kind of our spots,
(02:14):
so we're able to go there, enjoy some good food,
good environment, so um, you know, get to watch some
games too in the background. So um, you know, it
was it was really fun to be able to do that.
And you know, obviously it was Halloween this past weekend
and you know and marries up with the bye week.
Did you dress up at all? Was there any price
young and like a thor costume or something like that
(02:35):
walking around? Yeah? I know, Um Halloween. Halloween has never
been like my my like go to holiday, Like that's
not really my thing. Um. I know a lot of
people love it, but it's never really been my my,
uh my thing. So I didn't. I didn't dress up
this year. Um. You know, we never know what the
future holds, but um, uh not not not this year
(02:59):
for sure. Did you did you dressed up as a
kid at all? Like what did you have a go to? Well? Yeah,
did you? Was there like a go to that you
had like growing up? Or did you just mix it up? Yeah?
I was lazy. I would dress so I would just
put it whatever team I was playing for, I will
put that jersey on and I just be like I'm
a basketball player, I'm a football player. I do that
every like when I was a little kid, Like I
think they put me in like you know, like maybe
(03:22):
but like a I don't know, like a spider man
chirs some but then like probably like elementary and like
like early middle school. I would just put on whatever
jersey I was wearing and be like, I'm I'm a
basketball player, I'm a fotball player, whatever that jersey was. Yeah, man,
I remember I dressed up in all football pads one time.
I was like ten years old. But in the state
of Alabama, Like, that's not a great idea. Even in October,
(03:43):
I last said about two streets before I was about
to pass out from sweat. So I just wore a
football jersey the rest of the time. So it is, well,
you know, I feel like I was pretty dedicated up
to a certain point, but obviously I wasn't able to
push through with something I look back on and you know,
feel bad about every now and then. But this kidding,
but but you know, it was Halloween, but there was
there was another celebration. There was something else that went down.
(04:06):
Coach Saban turned seventy years old. Doesn't look a day
over fifty five. I think we can both agree on that.
What do you think would be the best gift that
anybody could get, Coach Saban? What if you had to
pick one, just what would be a great game other
than a win on Saturday? Nothing else that came to
my There's really nothing else that came in my head. Um,
(04:28):
yeah that's a I couldn't. Literally he actually like, yeah,
that's all he I know from us. All he wants
is for us to I think maybe like good practices,
Like yeah, he's not I he had it. He had
very clear intentions for for sure this year. So maybe
maybe a pack of Little Debbie's or something. Maybe maybe
(04:50):
that's that's how many little DeBie How many little Debbies
do you think? Coach Saban has his office, There's there's
a good amount like around his like around his office,
like right outside there's like there's just let's just say
they don't run out. Like however, if they're close to
if there, if it's about to run out, it gets
replenished immediately. So I've never seen an empty Yeah, now
(05:13):
and now I do. I do want to talk about
the on the field stuff, right because you know, going
kind of behind the helmet of some people I think
have a common misconception of what a bye week is
because it has the word by in there, like you're
not working, Like it's we're just relaxed the whole week
and we'll go up and watch film and this, that
and the other. But how important is the bye week? Uh,
not only just to get healthy, but for on the
(05:34):
field the tune up stuff as well. Yeah. No, Um,
like you said, it's it's good to kind of get
healthy and the body arrest, but also it's a really
good opportunity to work on stuff that, um, you know
you need to work on. It's a good you know,
you get a few days to you know, look at
opponents and to prepare for you know, the next week.
But also you know, you kind of get to evaluate
(05:55):
yourself to some self scout, see this stuff that you
know you're doing well, you're importantly and then kind of
work on that stuff. So that was a big emphasis
and making sure we were choosing stuff and focusing on
stuff to get better than by weekend. Um, you know,
I felt like, you know, I felt like we did
a pretty good job with that of of making sure
that we were locked in and getting better each day,
because you know, those kind of end up being those
(06:17):
extra practices and whenever you get those extra kind of
opportunities you have to take advantage of. Yeah, no doubt,
And and you know it's it's funny. I always love
asking players this question, especially the amount of film that
you guys watch. When you do actually get a chance
to watch a game, whether it be on a bye
week Saturday or maybe sneak in a little bit of
an eleven o'clock game, do you find yourself and I know,
the angles of the camera are way different than the
film that you get. Do you find yourself like just
(06:39):
like Okay, I'm just gonna watch the ball and be
able to relax, or do you find yourself looking at
things and kind of dissecting it? No, I like that's
a conscious struggle. Like I try my best to watch
football as a fan like with no like as like
a with no sort of like no sort of football
conscious just like the ball went over there, like from
a good play ball and end zone like man, And
(07:01):
then I find myself like looking at it like Dank
save his roll down like all this, like I think
he's trying. Like I find myself doing that and like
it annoys me. Like I try to like tell my mind, like, hey, bro,
just just watch it like a fan who doesn't know
anything about the game. Just just follow the brown leather
ball and like let that lead. But inevitably I end
(07:21):
up like analyzing stuff, and I have to like keep
reminding myself. The mind is programmed a hundred percent programmed
a hundred percent. But you know too, and and Bryce,
it's it's cool to watch this. You know, as you
guys have gone through the season and you get to
the bye week and then you get to the back stretch.
How important is it to keep up the same routine
(07:42):
and the same grind that you guys go through when
it is game week to keep yourself mentally focused even
though there's not a game that Saturday. How important is
it to just stay in tune and stay locked in. Yeah, yeah,
that's that's really that's kind of like, well, you know
what we emphasize and and that's kind of that push
to to to be great and to reach that level
is um. You know, you shouldn't be motivated by a team.
(08:03):
You shouldn't be motivated by an event. You shouldn't be
motivated by um you know this date on the calendar,
you have circle. You should be internally motivated and every
day you just you know, you have practice, you have lift,
you should you know, attack of the same. And you know,
obviously there's sho in nature that you know, it kind
of makes that hard, but that's kind of the goal
and what we're chasing. So for us, it's just kind
(08:23):
of embodying that and UM and us like thinking at
it as whatever it is, whether whatever day it is, whatever, um,
you know, a pointing we have or don't have. Um,
it's an opportunity to get better. So you know, we
have to give it our all each and every day,
and that's kind of the mindset we try to attack
it with. Yeah, now I've got to ask you this.
I've had this one cook it up because the last
time me and you talked, we talked about, you know,
(08:45):
maybe getting the day off, like what do you do?
I know you've got a couple of days not asking
for your schedule, but did you have that all right?
I don't have a ton of do today or today's
not structure a d percent? What do I do moment
a little bit like we talked about, Uh, and I
wasn't that much time. It definitely didn't get to that
punny Um it was it was not that much time. Well,
(09:06):
but it was definitely it was definitely cool too. Um.
You know, like you said, we had a few days
away from the facility, which is it's good. I kind
of you know, kind of end up around it anyway,
but because you know, you get a few days around
it or away from it, excuse me, and um, you
know again, it's good to kind of try to let
your mind, you know, wander as much as it is,
as you know, you can hear yourself, you know, a
(09:26):
little bit of a break just so that when you
come back and when you are, you know, you know
you have to get back locked you relatively soon that
you're you know, you feel like you're you're sharper and
more focused. Um, but you know, it wasn't enough time
to where I was like, you know, what am I
gonna do? Like it was it was only a few days.
So um, yeah I didn't. I didn't run into that wall.
I got you. I got you. Well, look, we all
(09:46):
know how big the Alabama LSU game is. I mean
it's one of this decided that sec West a lot,
you know, the tradition and all that. You guys have
them this week at home. What are some things that
excites you about this matchup? Right? So I know getting
back out there excite you, you know for the ball
after the bye week. Yeah, I know, like you said,
this is it's obviously a very story program. You know,
it's kind of you know, growing to a rivalry between us,
(10:07):
and you know, it's also a really really good team.
You know, it's a lot of talent, really well um,
you know, really well organized, really really good team. So
anytime we get to play a good team, and you know,
especially we get to play them at home, um, and
you know, we get to you know, we get to
be able to play in Brian Denny. UM, we know,
you know what the challenge is going to be. We
know how how you know, we know all they're going
(10:28):
to bring to the table, and you know, again how
good of a team that they are. So really it's
just that challengeing um, us being able to play against
the story program and arrival and a really good team
and um, you know you don't get that opportunity all
the time. And lucky we get to do it, you know,
in front of our home crowd. So we understand that,
you know, we have to have a great We get
preparation for it and and um, you know we have
to make sure we're able to execute. And we're sitting
(10:50):
here in early November. You've been the starting quarterback, the
starting quarterback at Alabama. You guys are doing well, having
a ton of success as a team, and you guys
are doing it as a team. It's being Is it
what you thought after watching the guys before you've been
seeing the quarterbacks coming into college? Is that is it
what you expected? Are you just learning a ton each week?
They call it the newborn the newborn syndrome where you're
(11:11):
just like learning everything every single week. How is the band?
Is that everything's cracked up to be? Yeah, I mean
there's definitely a lot of opportunity to learn and a
lot of opportunity for growth. You know, you you work,
it's kind of fun to kind of track the team
and track yourself week by week and see stuff, you know,
see improvement, see stuff, see how things change. Um, you know,
see see the things around you. And you know, after
(11:33):
every game, you know, I definitely get to watch myself
and see you know, the improvement that's that there is
to you know, be done and see all this stuff
that I can I'm learn. So for me, it's kind
of like week by week just trying to soaky and
all that I can. Um, you know, I have great
coaches around me. I have a lot of players that
have played a lot of football, so um, you know,
being around them and just be able to kind of
soak up as much knowledge as I can and then, um,
(11:55):
you know, it's fun when you're kind of able to
apply that quickly. You know, in the offseason, you know,
you watch yourself, you watch a game, like, I'm work
on this and work on this. But then you know
you have to wait a long time to like you know,
you gotta wait till whatever that first game is, or
maybe you have a scrimmage or something, but you know
you have to wait a long time in between the
kind of really implement it. But here, you know, it's
fun during the season when you know, all right, there's
(12:17):
this thing I want to work on, and then you
know next week you you kind of get an oppor
chant opportunity to um to showcase and to kind of
you know, improve it. So um, yes, I'm just trying
to you know, there's still a lot for me to learn,
a lot for me to improve one and I'm kind
of just, you know, week by week trying to you know,
trying to go and get better. Definitely, and we've seen that, man,
We've seen it your play and obviously, like I said, earlier.
(12:38):
You guys are having success, you know, speaking about success.
You know your Lakers are five and three right now,
Bryce and and look, I know it's early in the
year and they've got a long way to go. They
got the thunder tonight, they should win it. What do
you think about the Lake Show so far? Because while
all this is important, we all know what's going down
with the Lake Show is pretty important to Bright Young
as well. You know, we're a little bang right now
(13:00):
here we go coach right here right now. You know,
we Young got all our guys yet you know we're
still you know, and this is this is expected. You know,
it's a new team, the brand new roster. You know,
honestly for us to be you know, this is kind
of our feeling out period, are struggling. We're five and three,
you know, still got a positive record. You know, visit
us that are worse. You know, it's looking good. So
(13:22):
you know we got you know, there's some stuff to address,
of course, but you know, you got Brian, you got
a d um. You know, we got Westbrook. Um. You
know we got some guys so um we're you know,
we we got a good you know, a good roster.
You know it's it's a lot of you know, a
lot of moving parts, a lot of moving pieces. We're
still much going on, so much growth left to be done. Man,
(13:46):
even I feel there should be one of those one
of those uh soda bottles right next to you on
the podium the way the way you're handing that press
conference right there. It sounds but but now it's it's
a long season. Obviously we know how talented the Lakers are.
But speaking about talented man Bryance, it's always it's fun
to chop it up with you, man, And I know
you guys got a big one this week at home
against ls U. What can the Alabama fans expect this weekend?
(14:08):
I know you always love giving shout out to him
because they come out for yall. They come out in budgets. Yeah, no,
a d percent. You know, the fans make a big difference.
And you know we worked day in and day out,
and and you know we're you know, we're working to
execute and you know, to do the best we can.
But you know the energy that the fans bring, you know,
especially you know a game as big as this, you know,
a night game, Um, you know, the lights gets going.
(14:29):
You know when the fans come out, um, and you
know everything they've you know, they've they've been a great
presence for us. They helped us tremendously both sides of
the ball. Um. You know, it really does have an
impact on the game. So um, you know all the
fans that have been out and all the fans that
are planning to go out this weekend. You know, as
a team, we we really appreciate you and you guys
really do affect the game. So you know, we're excited
(14:49):
to be able to play in front you guys, and
you know we're working each and every day to get better. Definitely,
Well you may not have dressed up for Halloween, but
you'll be dressed up in Crimson this Saturday here in
Brian Denny. But U right, it's always great to talk
to you, man. I really appreciate your time. We appreciate
everybody's time out there. You got anything else to add
before we wrap it up? I'm good. You got this
wrap up down? Yeah, man, I'm man. I'm trying trying
(15:10):
to get like you. Man. I'm you know, trying to
just not do too much, check it down when I
have to and and all that and let's just get
down the field and score. But now it's been another
