Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume brilliant drive by Bryce Young. You see the
elusiveness would be a Bryce Ye, not the right never hurting,
(00:25):
doesn't have happy feet. Six fires here. Awareness understanding, recognition, awareness, understanding, recognition.
That kid is good, That kid is good. That kid
is good, That kid is good. All right, everybody, Welcome
(00:48):
to another edition of the Bryce Young Podcast. I'm Jake
Crane from The Jay Boys Show, bringing Bryce back the
star of the show QB one from Alabama, Mr Bryce Young.
Bryce is good to catch up with you again this week. Man,
definitely good to be here. Well, you know, coming off
another win against LSU and me and you talked about
last week just kind of the tradition of playing l
s U and and how physical that game is, you know,
(01:10):
watching it on the field, regardless of circumstance, whose records, what,
just after playing in the game and it looked physical,
it sounded physical. Do you think that's one of the
more physical games that you guys played all year? Yeah,
that was. That was a very physical game. Um that
was a really good team, very physical team, and um
yeah it was. It was you know as it was
hard any game, you know, its it was on both
sides of the ball um. You know, those two physical teams,
(01:32):
So you know that's what you get when you know,
you get, you know, kind of two rivals to divisional
opponents in sec um. But yeah, you know they're a
really good team and like you said, definitely definitely very
physical group. And I know you've watched the tape. All
you guys have watched the tape. You're always trying to
get better. What are a couple of things that you
took from that game? And and you know, I'm gonna
let you get to it. But when I watched it,
(01:53):
you know, it's not always pretty when you win. It's
not always everything doesn't always go to plan. It seems
to me like you guys came together as a team.
The defense stood up as well. But but what are
a few things that you guys learned as a team
about yourselves after that game. I don't think we talked
about that enough. Yeah, I know the defense, the defense
played amazing defense. You know, defense played you know, that's
a that's a that's a good team they played in
(02:14):
the defense play lights out. Um came during the big
time moments. We need him to um, so um, you know,
the defense played really well. I think offensively. Im. You know,
it's just kind of reiteration of of us stressing communication
and and us kind of making sure that you know,
we're on the same page the running game in the
past game and everything, you know, getting getting play calls,
all that play calls in and making sure that we're all,
(02:36):
you know, just on the same page. And um, you know,
I think that was a big kind of learning point
for us to know that, um, you know, again just
for us to stress communication. And you know, that's definitely
gonna be a point of emphasis for us this week.
And Bryance, can you talk about because again something we
always take, well, this guy's out, this guy's out, this,
and that when you lose the center, especially early in
a game, that does change a lot. Chris Owens came over,
(02:57):
did a really good job. Can you just talk about
adjusting with a new center, because it's just like anything,
it's like going to a new receiver. You've worked with
each other, but you've gotta get used to each other
in a game setting, which we both know is different
than anything. Yeah. Yeah, you know, that's you know, one
of those unexpected curveballs you can't really prepare for. But
he said, Seal did a great job of of stepping up,
and Um hadn't gotten too many reps a center, Um,
(03:19):
you know, since the season has been going on. But
you know he had some log from you know, from
past years, from the offseason and then you know immediately,
you know, just when you you know, when when you
have to adjust and adapt, you know, you know you
have to do what you have to do. And Seal
did a great job of stepping in that position, and
uh Dame came in and right tackling Um. Again, he
didn't have a lot of reps with ones at all,
didn't have a lot of reps UM throughout the season,
(03:41):
but Um, you know was focused, you know, in preparation,
was locked in and when his number is called, he
stepped up and played really really well as well. So UM,
you know that really goes to goes to UM. You know,
credit those guys for being able to step up in
their new roles and you know also to the coaching
for having them prepared for that. Yeah, and you know too, Brights,
we we talked a couple of weeks ago then it's
(04:01):
probably three or four weeks ago something like that, and
he talked about it sometimes during the game. You listen
to different music, you'll be in a different vibe. What
was the vibe like before this game? What was Bryce
young p ls? What were you vibes? Who was I
listened to it cutty? Was it Cutty? It was not.
It was not kick Hetty. Um, it was not kick Hetty?
(04:21):
Um what was it? It was like it was one
of my like more it was one of my more
like chill playlists. Um, one of my like more chill playlists.
Like it was some like what was it was like
some nips cole pr trake in there, like there was um, yeah,
I think I think that was like it was like, yeah,
that was like one of the one of like my Yeah,
(04:43):
it was one of the chill playlist type of days. Man, man,
I gotta ask you this too, because I you know,
never coached or anything underneath these led lights. And I
know when y'all score, the lights start change. Can you
see good out there? At one time, I swear y'all
scored and it was like the lights went out on
one ends and y'all were, you know, kind of celebrating
with each other a little bit. Yeah, I know you
can still you can still see um, but yeah, no
that's it's an election atmosphere. And again for a game
(05:06):
like that, UM, we're really really happy, really lucky for
it to be at home. When the fans came out,
and UM played a big role in the game. You know,
when you know those third downs, when you know the
other teams on offense and you know they're they're making
all that noise, it really does affect the game. And
you know, just all the all the support, all the
energy that they brought. UM, you know, and you know,
when you have those lights, it helps. But every time
(05:27):
the lights cut out, the fans went crazy. UM really
brought a lot of energy for us. And you know,
we we really appreciate whenever the fans come out, and
you know, we have the best fans in college football,
so UM, you know, whenever they you know, they were
in full effect on Saturday, and that that really helped us. Yeah,
well too. And and I always love, I always loved
talking about this because we know how passionate the Alabama
(05:48):
fan bases and college football fans are, how passionate they are,
how nervous they get during games. And I guarantee you
everybody was nervous LSU came out, But I looked on
the sidelines. And that's one thing you know, Bright said,
I've noticed about your game too, And it's like the
whole teams this way, nobody panics. There wasn't any panic
on the sideline that what people weren't runn around like
crazy over down seven. While the fans may be nervous,
(06:09):
I know you're not nervous. Am I riding guessing that? Yeah,
it really just stems from, you know, a step from
the confidence that I have and that we're all having
each other. Um, you know, with with all the other reps,
we have long with all the work and um, you
know we put in together during the season and offseason
all that. Um, you know, we all have confidence in
each other. So we know that you know, we're playing
good teams. You know, things can get rock and throughout
a seasonings not aren't always gonna go as playing. But
(06:32):
um again, it's tremendous faith in my guys and we
all you know, we all have each other's back, so
um you know, we know we have we have to
do to whether whatever storm comes, and um, you know
we kind of have confidences in each other then and
get it done. Yeah, And and I almost feel like
to playing playing games and and you know, certain situations
against teams. When you're playing with teams that are playing
with house money, typically you get a lot of different
(06:54):
looks or they're kind of playing, you know, very free
when it comes down to playing call calling plays and
without being into it, did you did you get a
lot of stuff that kind of came out of left field?
Because it looked at me like, and I'm watching Lust
the whole year, Brightce, not as in depth as you have,
my tapes, not as good as yours, But was it
something kind of where you getting stuff you didn't expect,
like you doing in every game. But to me, Ls,
(07:14):
you look like they were going a bunch of different stuff. Yeah. Yeah,
they came out with a completely different scheme and one
that we weren't um, you know, one that we hadn't
seen on film this year. Um. But again that was
something you know, we we we um you know, with
a buyowee coming in and we kind of expected, you know,
certain things to to be to get some money. Scott.
It looks and you know we just really, you know,
(07:35):
we we had to do a better job of adjusting. Um.
You know, I felt like you know, all around, we
we you know, we didn't probably pick up on, you know,
the stuff they're doing and adjusted as well as we
wanted to. But um, you know that's you know, it
was a really hard fall game. You know, luckily, you
know we got away with the wind. But that's just
stuff for us to work on, stuff for us and
improve on. And then as we watched the film, um,
(07:55):
you know, we're you know, those are stuff that we're
addressing and um, you know it's gonna get us better.
So um, you know we just have to say keep
improving it. Yeah, the film is so much more fun
to watch after a win too, from personal because I
know you know that I'm not gonna get into detail,
but man, it's so much it's so much funner to
more fun to watch when you when you watch it
after a win. But you know, to Bryce, I gotta
(08:16):
ask you, you threw an absolute laser beam. I think
it was the Jamo? Was it Jamo? You hit on
the post? Who wasn't you hit it? Either that or
on the deep cross? I can't tell from Jamo? Did
you knew it was good? When it? Lift your hands?
To me, it's like when the ball leaves the bat
and you know what's gone. You had to know that
was good because to me is if you had the pose,
you had the shoulder set, you finished it and the
(08:37):
ball came out perfect. Man. And that's not an easy
gotta hit and stride. I mean you can't just throw
it right to him. He's running about thirty miles an hour.
But did you know what was good when it left
your hand? Uh? Yeah, something like that. You know, we
we we got a favorable look, we got a favorite matchup. Um,
you know, and um, you know able to do it.
You know, Jim what did a great job of winning
on the route and um, you know my probably that
(09:00):
point is just um, you know, obviously it's extremely fast,
so just you know, put it on the ball, let
him um you know, let him go out and run
underneath it. And um, you know you did a great
job running a good route, tracking the ball and scoring.
But you know, it was definitely definitely good to get
points to the boy. Yeah, you hit a couple of
stanky legs on the runs too. On the scrambles. I
saw it twice once for a first down. You have
(09:20):
you always had that. You've got different moves, but to me,
you kind of got that that stutter a little bit
that jab stutter that that's tough. It seems to me
like unite for a couple of first sounds doing this.
That's something you've always done or is it something you've
kind of added to your arsenal when you're scrambling? Um, yes,
I think it's kind of like like your signature move.
Tell me it is right? And is that your signature
(09:41):
move on me? I don't know ball that, but like
I feel like I've kind of had had that for
a little bit. And then obviously stuff builds off of it.
Then you know, you develop other stuff. But um, yeah,
like stuff like that is it's kind of just been um,
you know how it ran for for a while, but um,
you know, again you just build off stuff and then um,
luckily we were able to. I was able to you know,
(10:02):
scramble and run when it was it was necessary. But um,
you know a lot of the times, you know a
lot of times people always assume like those runs and
those scrambles are like there was something wrong that happened
with a play or like maybe like oh, someone's like,
oh you're running, you're scrambling the line didn't do well.
But in reality, a lot of times the line is
actually what creates those those lanes and the line, um,
you know, the line doesn't it is actually really um
(10:23):
does a good job or maybe just you know, you're
you're deep in coverage so um and you just are
able to take off because of the line. So um.
You know, it's not just me running in freestyle and
a lot of times there's a lot of moving parts.
You know, there's line, there's receivers blocking out field, so
you know runs like that, um, you know it just
you might seem like it's just one person, but there's
(10:43):
a lot of moving parts and a lot of people
that um, you know that are um you know that
really play a partner. Yeah. And then man coverage when
the DB's backs are turned as the defensive guy that
he's always scaring, you know, you get but you get
past the first wave and man, there's not a lot
of guys left, but especially if you run them off.
But you know too, brights something. I'm watching the game
and on the side, I know you're communicated with Couch O'Brien,
who's up in the box. You guys are talking, but
(11:05):
you and coach Saban seemed to have a really good communication.
Not that you're always talking to each other. But it
seems to me when y'all are talking to each other,
it's not just an important times and it's not super long,
but it just seems like he's giving you advice or whatever.
Can you just talk about how important that is, I mean,
to be able to get advice from I mean the
goat at the end of the day. I mean he's
he's seen it a million times. Yeah, yeah, whenever Coach
(11:27):
Saban has something to add, something to ask me, something
to talk to me about, obviously you know you obviously listening.
And every time he has you know, input and stuff
to add, it's you know, it's always something that that's
you know, that makes us better and makes me better individually,
makes us better as offensive as a team. Um, So
for him to obviously, um, you know, at times, just
to be able to tell me stuff and give me
(11:47):
give me teaching points and and and coach me up
and again by being from Coach Saban, you know, the
greatest ever do it. It's you know, it's always honor
and you know, whenever you you know, you get those
coaching points, um, you know, it'll be stuff you you
you didn't even think of or you didn't even Um,
we weren't thinking of and then you know, he'll say
something and then then it will be crystal clear after that.
So um yeah, like having that and having having that
(12:10):
resource and having coached you know, on the sideline giving
you reminders and giving you stuff to that he sees, Um,
you know, definitely hints my game. How ex Saturday for
the stretch run duh, you know that down as we
kind of wind down the season. I know we still
got a decent amount of time left. You guys are
in position, you know what the deal is. You know
what you have to do, Bryce how et cetera. You
(12:31):
guys to go out there and actually do it. Yeah,
obviously there's a lot of excitement. This is the time
of the year where you know, all the games around
this time or you know that that that's really plays
a big part into what your future is and what
your legacy is as a team. Um, and you know,
we definitely all understand that. So we know we have
to take a week by week starting with Saturday. So
you know, we're not looking forward to looking ahead to
(12:53):
anybody or to anything, because you know we have to
you know, we have to take things a week by week.
But we know this is the time of year where, um,
you know, everything has a has a big, big impact
on your season and which you wanta accomplished. So um,
you know it's it's definitely exciting, and um, we're just
trying to work improved by day, you know, to go
back to something too. We we talked about a little
bit earlier, Brice. You know, seeing all these coverages, you know,
(13:15):
learning and during the preseason is one thing, but actually
going through it and seeing the way defenses are game
planning for you and learning all these coverages. You know,
I almost call it the the newborn uh situation where
you see it's like they're learning everything everywhere they look.
Do you feel like you have learned more this year?
Being the starter, being the guy not just about coverage,
but how people are trying to play you because you
can run and throw and the weapons you have outside.
(13:37):
It's gotta be just a learning experience each week. Um.
We you know, we've played a lot of really good teams,
a lot of really good defense, is a lot of
really good defensive coordinators. Um, and you know, to get
a new wrinkle, to get something new, to get a
new scheme, to get a new cover, whatever it is
to get that. You know, each and every week, that's
one of the big advantages. And playing the schedule you
do and playing in the SEC and you know, going
(13:59):
up against petition that we do. Um. You know, every
week I learned and you know, watching film after that
you get to evaluate, evaluate yourself and and learn more
and more. Um. So you know that only makes me
a better player, That only makes us a better offense
and us a better team. Um by you know, getting
to learn from the stuff that we get to see.
So um, you know, I'm definitely definitely blessed to be
an opportunity and being the circumstance that I am. And
(14:21):
you know, it definitely feels like I'm I'm learning a
lot and you know, more and more easing every week. Yeah,
and you know I'm still I'm still gotta feeling Bryce
Young catches the past for touch on this year. That's
me saying it. That's not Bryce saying it or anybody else.
That's just me saying I think it's coming. But you know, Bryce,
to digress a little bit from football, you know, me
and you hit some live stuff. After we've talked about
(14:42):
the Lakers, we talked about what you dressed up for,
is you know, for Halloween? Back as a kid, you
were like me when is the athlete? Very generic, very
safe choice, not the way I did it with the
pads on, but you're smarter and safer choice. But what
type of movies is Bryce young in two? Are you into?
It's weird when I say your name, the ask a
little the type of movies are you men too? That's
(15:03):
a good question. I'm kind of I won't say all
over the place, but like definitely specific to like my favorite.
My two favorite movies are Painting Full and um Brotherley Love,
Like definitely those are my two favorite movies. Um so
like like I like all the Marvel movies. And I
was just about to ask you that. I was just
(15:23):
about to ask all right, let me ask you a question.
Marvel this new eternals thing? Have you seen that the
previous after after I've seen like the little like commercials
like after Endgame. I was like I was good with that,
Like that was cool, Like, yeah, you put it to rest,
you put it to yea like Marvel had my light,
you know, like it had all their lives you know,
a long time, like like like templus years, like I
(15:46):
grew man like I grew up with the Iron Man,
and I didn't really like like that's just that's just
how it is. And then they tried to like kill
him off and I got really upset about it, and
then it's kind a way to bring him back exactly.
Was all building up to endgame. I liked it. It
was great. It was amazing in the game. It's the
name of the movie, the games exactly. And after that,
I was like, man, like that was awesome, Like like
(16:07):
I haven't watched really anything after that, like Marvel Lad,
I'll watched like the New Spider Man, but which one.
There's like nine of them. I don't even know what
the New Spider Man is, the one that I don't
know when it comes out, but the one with like
Tom Holland like that one. Like I'm gonna keep watching
Spider Man's but I think that I don't think I've
watched anything after any Spider Man? Was that your favorite?
Was that your good to superhero as a kid, it
was Spider Man? Yeah, I was a little kid for sure,
(16:30):
and Turtle's bedspread and everything man that was kind of
my jam for some reason. Yeah, Donna Tella that was
my dog for real. But but no, man, that I
just I've always wanted that too, because I feel like
everybody is into the I guess you have like the
DC people than the Marvel people. I feel like everybody's
into the Marvel movie. Uh so again, so you would say,
(16:51):
and I don't want to dwell too far on this,
but I need to know. The people need to know.
But we can talk about album and football. That's great.
The people need to know. Was in Game your favorite
Marvel movie? Was that? Was that your favorite? Well? Was it?
Um favorite? I'd say I didn't seem probably the first
Avengers respective Adventures in the Black Panther. I probably like
(17:16):
six or seven times, Like I've seen theaters like three times,
like you went to that was when you went and
saw three times in theater? Yeah, like I never do that, man.
I went back. Honestly, I went to the theater. This
is probably, man, probably three weeks ago. I have been
in so long, like obviously before the pandem even before
the pandemic, and you can't go like I hadn't been
to it. Then I went to the theater up here
(17:37):
and they had like lounge chairs, they have like full
service restaurant in the movie theater and I went and
watched Free Guy. I know you don't have any time,
but if you do get a chance on the trip,
pretty good man, Ryan Roynds is pretty good. I don't
know if that's your jam, and I feel like, if
you're down with Busley Love and Paint and full, I
think there's a chance you may like it for sure.
For sure, I'm definitely like what you said to like
(17:58):
Marvel and DC. Like I like comics a lot too,
so like DC. I like DC. DC comics are way
better than Marvel comics, but Marvel movies are better than
so like like I don't watch any of the DC
movies because they're, like, you know, not my favorite, but
like as far as like actual like the comics, I
really only like only no, like I only really like
(18:18):
pay Attention like DC comics. Like well, the debates over
the debate. Anybody that ever said that you liked DC
movies over Marvel movies, they're they're wrong. We've proved it tonight.
The great question has been answered. I don't know what
else you guys want from us right here, getting the
answers to matter coverages, Marvel movies, DC movies. But Brice, man,
it's been a lot of fun. I feel like we've
done this like a hundred times now. It's it's a
(18:39):
lot of fun. We've never hung out in real life,
but I feel like we have since. Pretty sweet. But no, man,
you've got anything to add, anything else, anything about the
Lakers you want to add. I haven't checked the record tonight,
so I don't know a hundred percent, and maybe good
or bad. I'm i'm, I just know, I'm I'm supporting.
We're on top. You know. I'll just give us some time. Yeah,
(19:01):
