Speaker 1 (00:00):
Third hour of Clay and Buck kicks off right now,
and we got a new pope, everybody. That's the big
news of the day, no question about it. The Catholic
Church has a new head, Leo the fourteenth, and now
everyone's diving into who is this guy?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
What do we know about him?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
And finding a lot of interesting information like the following.
So he was supposed to be a or supposedly a
close colleague of Pope Francises. He is from Chicago. He
served most of his career in Peru. He spoke in

(00:42):
Italian and in Spanish, now the Spanish. Obviously, he had
lived in South America for most of the time he
was a priest.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Apparently didn't say anything.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
In English, which is a little strange. I think some
people might have thought, well, that is your your mother
toung and there are Let me see what else am
I picking up here, Clay, We're looking at Leo fourteen stuff.
He's he was called the social Pope. Leo was rather
the previous Leo. Pardon me, the previous Leo was the
social Pope. He wrote the Rrum Novarum, which is an

(01:18):
encyclical that called for a living wage. So people are
starting to see some things that are looking like he
could be a social justice heavy pope, and that that's
what we seem to have on our hands right now.
I saw the Sean You've probably seen it too, the
Sean Davis tweet that's getting a lot of attention. Should

(01:39):
we tell everybody about this one?

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
I mean, look, you want to hit it with it.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
There's a bunch of stuff out there from his Twitter account.
This is one of the first popes probably ever that's
had a Twitter account. He's had an account since twenty eleven.
And a lot of it is reposts, a lot of
it is not direct quotes. But here's a comment, and
I think I mentioned this in the last hour, but
directly he said jd Vance is wrong. Jesus doesn't ask

(02:08):
for us to rank our love for others. That was
a comment that he made in February of twenty twenty
five and then LinkedIn article. And then he also back
in twenty fifteen, shared something from Cardinal Dolan at the
Washington Post. Now, Cardinal Dolan has had a good relationship

(02:28):
if I remember buck with Trump. He is New York's Cardinal, right,
if I'm not mistaken. New York City area Cardinal why
Donald Trump's anti immigrant rhetoric is so problematic. That was
something that Cardinal Dolan wrote on July thirty first of
twenty fifteen. He shared both of those and then there

(02:49):
are multiple other posts that he has retweeted. One of
them says, I joined my vote voice and prayers to
those of my brother bishops that we might work hard
to end racism in our hearts and in society. May
God give comfort to the family of hashtag George Floyd
in this time of anguish Yes. He also said saying

(03:13):
Trump's bad ombre's line fuels racism and nativism. California Bishops
and preemptive blast on DACA repeal. You're not gonna like
this one. Buck reposted this from sister Helen Praijean. Pray Gene.
She's the Louisiana if I remember correctly, right activist. I
stand with the Dreamers and all people who are working

(03:36):
toward an immigration system that is fair, just and moral.
Hashtag defend DOCA hashtag DOCA and this is recent as
Trump and Bucheley use Oval fed's illicit deportation of a
US resident. DC Cardinal asked, do you not see the
suffering is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?

(03:59):
And then all also he reposted Chris Murphy, Senator from
Connecticut to my colleagues, your cowardice to act cannot be
whitewashed by thoughts and prayers. None of this ends until
we do something to stop it. I think that was
potential violence. Probably yes, in Connecticut, in the shooting that
happened at the elementary school. No, that was andywet. I

(04:22):
think that's a Sandy hook tweet. All those Andy Hope
does not know anything about guns. But that's a whole
other conversation. Okay, So those are all things that are
being shared that he has shared on his social media account.
On the flip side, yeah, on the flip side, but Catholics.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
On the flip side.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
He has voted typically in Republican primaries throughout his voting history.
But those social media account comments, again some of them
are retweets, but suggestive that he may be actually that
he may be actually in some way a social justice warrior,

(05:03):
as priests and now popes go. So that is the background.
Positive story is that for the first time in the
history of the Catholic Church, there is an American born
pope from Chicago, went to Villanova, majored in math there
and has lived all over the country. But his most
recent tweet was criticism of Trump and Buqueley. So my

(05:26):
thought is, on some level, all right, Southern Baptist man,
go for it. I'm fired up over here, go for it. No,
my thought on some level is that this could be
seen by the Cardinals as some form of rebuke of Trump,
and they picked an American Catholic as a result. Now,
what's your announcements all this? I don't think. I don't
think that is that they're as focused in on that.

(05:50):
You know, we do a political first show here. I
don't think that they're picking the pope based upon who's
going to be president or who is president in one
country of the of the hundreds of countries around the
world for the next few years. So I look, this
is a problem for a lot of us who are
on the right and who are Catholics. And I do

(06:13):
not hold myself out of somebody who is particularly active
or knowledgeable about the church these days. Although I did
grow up very much enmeshed in I mean, we used
to have clay, we used to have church before our
first soccer game, or our first basketball game of the season.
I don't mean on a Sunday. I mean like it
was Monday morning, like first day of this season. Time
to go to church.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
And we used to go to church all the time
when I was in school, and we had chapel every
morning for ten years at my Catholic school growing up.
So yeah, I've spent a lot of time in these
places and hearing this. The challenge you have is, I mean,
the George Floyd thing is is pretty remarkable. I just
could say, you know, there's just a poll that came

(06:54):
out yesterday that most people realize that the whole BLM
thing just made everything work. What I've been saying for years,
what you've been saying for year, made everything worse and
did not make anything better, nothing correct, no improvement from
any of that, all of that. But this is about
a racial reckoning and racial justice. No, actually it's not.
It was race riots and it was horrible and hurt
the country. So anyway, the results now are are are

(07:15):
in on that, I mean, the polling results at least.
The challenges you have here are one. Let's just take
this issue of the rebukes of and can I You've
got a lot of very active Catholics, like some you
could call in and do the whole call in Latin. Okay,
light us up here eight hundred two A two two
eight A two. Some of youple have much more passionate

(07:35):
feelings about this specific choice and are going to want away.
And Clay already said if you happen to know this
pope from when he was in Chicago, that would be
very interesting. Maybe one of you had him as a
roommate at Villanova. Hey, who knows, I mean, what do this?
Don't mean if they're already to do some case stands,
you never know, But I am I'm curious to hear

(07:57):
from all of you about this or we really are
going to line up rack and stack a bunch of
calls on how you feel about this. But Clay, you know,
for example, to call out JD. Van s or to
call out Bouqueley. Really, that's that's where the worst human
rights stuff is going on. This is just left wing
and doctrination. I mean, I know that now he's you know,

(08:17):
he's going to be consecrated as the pope and it's
a big deal, But he was just a priest before this,
and he was a priest that clearly held some very
left wing views, you know, not talking about about the
the assault on Christians in the Muslim world, or the
suppression of Christianity and just general authoritarianism in China, and

(08:38):
not talking of any There are so many areas, so
many things you could go into here, or so many leaders.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
You could call out.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
What about all these European leaders who are effectively for euthanasia,
abortion all well, depends on which European country. Abortion usually
about six and six of the months of a pregnancy.
It depends on where you are. You know, all all
of the gender ideology stuff, the destruction of the family,
the destruction of marital relationships, or rampant pornography, and I

(09:09):
mean just all that stuff that is supported by a
lot of leaders in the Western world. And you're calling
out Boukale, What about what about saying thanks Boukeley for
taking the murder rate from one of the worst in
the world to one of the lowest in the world
and saving thousands and thousands of lives and hundreds of

(09:29):
thousands of people's lives in the sense that they didn't
just lose a family member or lose the guy that
was employing them. In the business or whatever, because they
weren't murdered by some cartelmaniacs. This is what you have
a tough time. I had a very tough time with
the last Pope, and I just chose not to speak
to my very I have some very devout Catholic family members,
and I cannot talk to them. I couldn't talk to

(09:50):
them about the last Pope really because I had nothing
good to say about a lot of the statements climate
change stuff. It's a little like when a pope talks
about guns. There's just a lot of a lot of
ignorance and a bit of hubris, just saying, you know,
if you don't know, you don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I don't care what your role is.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
So, like I said, I will put this out there,
but I hope that this Pope is fantastic on a
whole range of other issues, and maybe there's an opening
here for some great things to happen. I am hopeful,
as one should be, that this Pope will be great.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
I would point out that when he shared two different
posts about Trump and also about JD. Vance, there was
well knowledge that Pope Francis was not well. And if
you were playing the politics game and you were an American,

(10:48):
I bet it does not hurt to not be pro
Trump if you are trying to ascend to become pope.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Look, so this is like this is a so Now,
I had a grandparent who was very Catholic, as in
I went to church not just every Sunday, but like
random times during the week for her whole life. And
but was also really into what what I would call
the left wing. There's really there's really Catholic mark, there's

(11:16):
a Catholic Marxist wing of the church. There's a she
even subscribes to something called the Catholic Worker, which is
effectively Catholic Communists, which I you know, Communism is always
radically in practice, radically anti Catholic, anti God, and horrifically destructive.
And I would even argue demonic. But unfortunately, you know,

(11:37):
the devil, the devil is the father of lies and
often presents himself, so to speak, as something quite appealing.
And I think for a lot of Catholics, the well,
we are all supposed to just give all we have
and go follow Jesus, and that means we should have
open borders and nobody should be wealthy.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
I mean the Vatican's got a lot of fancy artwork
like this stuff starts to get really tough for people
in the real world application. Again, there's a difference between
the doctrine of the Church and what the Pope says
as his opinion on things. And yeah, I on the
doctrine stuff aligned on the pope's opinion stuff. I often

(12:20):
find myself not aligned, and I wonder how many of
you have the same have the same feelings. But on
the good side of things, he's American, so we got
that going for us.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
He's voted in a lot of Republican primaries, and.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
He's voted Republican. Well, I give him credit for this,
and that's actually a very important reminder. I don't understand
how you can be a practicing and believing, a practicing
believing Catholic and vote for the Democrat Party. And one
of my problems would be that this pope, for example,
calls out JD events. I mean, based on the church's
own doctrine, I mean Joe Biden. People that advocate for
abortion for all nine months of her pregnancy and their

(12:56):
public role should be excommunicated from the church. But they
don't do that. Even just have a called out. They
won't do that, and that I think is a huge problem,
a huge problem for a lot of us who say, okay,
so you'll call out jd Vance or something on some
I don't even know what it was on like being
open borders, which there's really also I mean, I think

(13:18):
that some priests don't really understand this. To be honest
with you, I studied with a lot of Jesuits. We're
very smart on some things and truly ignorant on others.
And you know, they're not people that have had to
pay a lot of bills. Just put it that way.
They effectively live in communes. I mean they are in essence,
the Society of Jesus is the closest thing to a
functioning an actual functioning communist system, at least the theoretical

(13:39):
practice of it that you'll find anywhere. And that's a
joke that a Jesuit actually told me. So they don't
understand things like if you have an open border in
this country, all of the public welfare and you know,
programs to help the poor in this country effectively go
under because you're saying that all of these people have
a claim to the programs that we have they're meant

(14:01):
to help people. And by the way, if you don't
pay into those programs the form of taxes, you go
to prison because men with guns come and arrest you
in the name of the state. It's not as simple
as just like we've got a lot of food, we're
gonna feed everybody.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
I'd also point out he's from Peru now, And so
I look at it politically, a lot of these guys
are not going to be trying to draw attention to themselves.
They're going to try to stay in whatever is considered
to be the main stream. That's fine, and then ultimately
the buck stops with you, no pun intended when you
become the guy at the head of the Catholic church.

(14:36):
So sometimes you don't have any idea how a politician
is going to lead until they actually end up in
a position of power because they've been trying to kind
of hide in the current. For lack of a better
way to describe it, I would think if you're trying
to become the first American pope, there are probably people
lied against you because of America's power in the world,
and so I see it as kind of an attempt

(14:58):
to camouflage yourself within the flow of whatever direction the
river is going in some way looking at some of
these breadcrumbs for lack of another way to describe it
on the social media accounts, but I'm curious to any
of you know them. We'll take your calls. Switch your
cell phone service to pure Talk, get a brand new
Samsung Galaxy on him with a great qualifying plan while
you're at it. Stop overpaying Verizon AT and T or

(15:21):
T mobile qualifying plans started just thirty five bucks a month,
unlimited talk text, fifteen gigs of data, and a mobile hotspot,
all in America's most dependable five G network coverage just
as good as one of those other companies. Because Puretalk
utilizes towers and networks one of those companies would use
as well. You can switch to Puretalk for just thirty
five bucks a month, cut your cell phone bill in half,

(15:43):
get a brand new Samsung Galaxy for free. Dial pound

US customer service team can help you switch in as
little as ten minutes. Again, pound two five zero say
the keywords clay and buck to make the switch to
pure Talk today. That's pound two five zero.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
News and politics, but also a little comic relief.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Clay Travis and Buck Sexton.

Speaker 4 (16:07):
Find them on the free iHeartRadio app or wherever you
get your podcast.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Welcome back into Clay and Buck. We were going to
take a lot of calls from all of you listeners
out there. We are going to take I think we're
gonna I don't know we allowed to do this. We're
gonna take calls from our Catholic listeners.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
First.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
I don't want to get at any trouble here on
how they feel about the new Pope, But any of
you who want to weigh in, who have strong feelings
on this one, just make sure you know as we
take calls, space opens up, because every line I think
is lit right now. But just remember as a call goes,
more calls can come in. So light us up and
we'll take a whole bunch of them. Because that's a
big moment, a big moment in the Catholic Church, a

(16:44):
big moment for Christianity and in America because we got
the first American pope. Just some other breaking news that
I think would be a huge story except today, and
that is the FBI has reportedly officially opened a full
on investigational investigation into Attorney General Letitia James in response
to that DOJ referral, So Letitia James Clay could be

(17:08):
in a position here where as the Attorney General, she
has to explain why she doesn't have to.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
Be held to the same rule as everybody else.

Speaker 4 (17:19):
We'll definitely dive into that tomorrow, as that news would
otherwise be very significant on today. But we got elected
a American pope, which is truly a historic occasion. I
told you this off air when I was in Vatican
City a couple of years ago, touring everything. I asked,
what are the chances there ever being an American pope?

(17:39):
And my tour guys Italians just kind of laughed, like, oh,
they'll never be an American pope because your country is
seen as too powerful and they don't want America to
also have a pope.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Well they were wrong, and it's kind of amazing.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
For years now, those living in Israel have known that
Americans have their back as a nation. We are staunch
supporters of Israel's to exist and for its populace to thrive.
There are nonprofits on the ground in Israel that remind
is Raeli citizens of that as well, and no one
is making a bigger impact day in and day out
in that regard than the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
The Israeli government appreciates the IFCJ for ongoing help to

(18:16):
make sure the elderly, the sick, wounded soldiers, and impoverished
families in Israel don't fall through the cracks. Your gift
to the Fellowship today will provide life saving aid, medicine,
hearty meals, safety and comfort. When we bless the people
of Israel, we unlock God's blessing in our lives as well.
Show your support for Israel by making a life saving
gift today. Call to make your gift at eight eight

(18:37):
eight four eight eight IFCJ. That's eight eight eight four
eight eight four three two five, or go online at
SUPPORTIFCJ dot org. That's one word, support IFCJ dot org.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
Welcome back in Clay Travis buck Sexton show. Not that
it's a proxy for anything that is definitely moving around,
but my seventeen year old texted me American Pope exclamation point,
And I think that is probably going to be the
biggest takeaway from most people around the United States is

(19:14):
that we now have for the first time ever an
American pope. Pope Leo the fourteenth Robert Prevost, an American
born pope from Chicago, sixty nine years old, got a
math degree at Villanova, has lived in Peru for some time,
and he will be the new pope coming on May eighth,
which is the eightieth anniversary of victory in Europe day,

(19:37):
a day that America had quite a lot to say
with that victory. Also Trump announcing new tariff agreement with
England and the stock market doing quite well. A lot
of you want to weigh in on the new pope.
Let's just go right in the order that I have
them lined up right here, Brian in Summerfille, North Carolina,

(20:00):
what you got for us?

Speaker 5 (20:00):
Brian, Hey, guys, to be honest with you, as an
American Catholic, I really don't care that we have an
American pope. What I really care about is what are
his teachings going to be? And I'm not all that
happy about who they picked. As I was telling the screen,
there's one hundred and thirty three guys that go into

(20:20):
that room and they are supposed to be listening to
the Holy Spirit. But I will remind everybody. They are men.
They may have heard the Holy Spirit God gave us
free will. We could listen to it and actually put
that on the paper, or we can deny it and
do something else. And I am just kind of afraid

(20:42):
that we have a Vatican much like we did in
World War Two. We have a Vatican much like the
Jews had when Jesus was around with the Pharisees. You know,
we have people in charge now at the Vatican who
are more worried about what is happening in this world
then how to get to the next world. So, yeah,

(21:04):
I'm to be honest with you, I'm not all that
joyful about who this new pope is.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
Thank you for the call Buck as the Catholic on
the show. Any of those things ring true for you,
or how would you assess your overall thoughts here? I
don't think any of us expected this guy kind of
came out of nowhere to be selected.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Yeah, I don't know how much it matters that he's
American other than I assume his English is good, so
that's helpful, But beyond that, and I mean, look, it's
a cool first for America, I should say. I just
don't know how much that will affect his tenure and
what he does as the leader of the Catholic flock.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
We'll have to see.

Speaker 1 (21:46):
I don't know. You know, we just found out who
the guy is. I had never even heard of him
till a minute ago. So I'm learning on the fly
like so many others.

Speaker 4 (21:52):
Here Walker in Jersey City. What you got Forrest Walker?

Speaker 6 (21:58):
You know, I just think this is uh. I think
that that not to sound jaded, but I think this
is a good business decision on the Catholic Church's part.
I think the United States is the richest, most powerful
country in the world, and UH, the Catholic population has
been declining here. I think this will help grow the
church in the United States. I think uh. I live

(22:19):
in Hudson County, New Jersey, and I've seen school after
school close down, Catholic school after Catholic school closed down
in the last ten years. I think it. I think
the Catholic Church needs a boost in the United States.
And I also think that that this new pope will
work work to uh to fight to things that have

(22:39):
been going on with Ortega in Nicolagua and UH. And
you know the political part of it, You're You're just
always gonna have Popes are always going to be pretty
pretty uh. I think they're pretty going to be pretty
pretty liberal to begin with.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Thanks for the call. Obviously a wide variety of perspectives.
There is evidence that he is a Republican who voted
in Illinois. There are social media posts that suggests that
he may not be a big Trump.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
JD. Van's Guy Anthony and Boston fire Away.

Speaker 7 (23:11):
Yeah, so so listen. The thing about this this guy
is I'm a former Catholic, but I've heard him on
the past couple of days. I think they wanted an outside,
especially from America, because the Vatican there's a big trouble
cash wise, financially, the allegations of money and wandering, and
I think they wanted someone from the outside to come in.
And they're so desperate that, you know, Francis in his

(23:33):
dying days, he actually put out an either begging to
get more money out of the congregations. And the two
lodges donors by country in the world are the United
States and Germany, and they definitely don't want to They
want a German bok who what happened last time? He
was too strict. Also, this American, this American who's now
the Holy Father. He's going to have to decide what

(23:54):
he's going to decide with Trump. Just days ago the
Trump administration Tommy Dolan, she filed out during the state
of Washington and deciding with the outsizes of Seattle because
Washing state is infringing upon their religious rights. They want
to make them could have their confessions be able to
be told as a mandated report, and the Catholic Church

(24:16):
is pushing back against it. So Trump deciding with the
Catholic Church. He's going to be big for Catholics in
America because these two Catholics. There's the Heathen ones that
I see, I was a Cavil. Then there's the immigrant ones.
And this guy definitely he's pro migrants, he's pro underserved communities,
and he could the media could use this man to

(24:37):
take advantage of Like you know, this is what the
Catholic Church does. And I just hope not I really
just hope. But the other calls it he saves souls
because that's the main mission of the church, but it
appears it's a business decision. That's only my opinion. But
like I said, just recently, this Trump administration to put
investigation against the out sizes to Seattle. So we'll see

(24:58):
what happened.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Thank you for calling. Here's what I would say.

Speaker 4 (25:00):
I do think caller is right that when the Pope
makes decisions that are seen as being in conflict with
Trump or JD vance the United States leadership, it will
be covered as a more significant factor than it would
have been covered if the pope were not from America.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Does that make sense to you.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
I mean it will be seen even though he's lived
in Peru for a long time and he obviously represents
the entire world of Catholics, it will be seen as
a more direct rebuttal of Trump, and to be fair,
a more direct validation of Trump if he signs on
in agreement, just in the way that the American media,
I think in particular, will cover this.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Let's go to Jacqueline in Brooklyn.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
What's going on, Jacqueline, Hello.

Speaker 8 (25:48):
Gentlemen, I happen to agree with a lot of what you.
Every single one of your previous callers have said. I
am myself a practicing Catholic, and I have to say
I right off the bat, I'm a little disappointed in
this particular choice based on what this pope has said himself.
He opens up by talking about saving the refugees of

(26:09):
the world, letting them in. He did not speak out
openly and first and foremost about abortion, which is supposed
to be one of the most central doctrines of the
Catholic Church, especially with the former president that we had
in the last administration and the former Speaker of the
House that we had at the last administration, that I

(26:33):
think goes along in line with what some of your
previous callers have said. He should be focused on how
to get to the next world instead of the physical
world that we're living in. But we need to remember
the Pope is a religious politician the same way generals
are military politicians. And one of the things that I

(26:54):
agree with is that this was a political decision that
the church made. I would like to see him speak
more about church doctrine and not so much about political agendas.
And I think that's where he's heading very much the
way Francis was.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
You know, this is something, Jacqueline that as I'm listening
to you speak, this is buck and when I have
gone to church in recent years, it's always hard for
me because I can tell you many times I have
sat there and from the pulpit, I have been lectured
about BLM, or I have been lectured about climate change,
or I'm being in a Catholic church. I don't think

(27:34):
I've heard a priest talk about abortion in the last
five years, one time, one time from the pulpit, right,
So this starts to get to what are we really
pushing here?

Speaker 2 (27:45):
Guys? You know, what are we really doing?

Speaker 1 (27:48):
And I hope that whoever this new pope is, he
sticks to what the churches is right on and what
it should be focused on and doesn't start to sound
like an MSNBC contributor for no reason, because I've seen
I've seen a lot of that among Catholic Catholic priests,
so that's unfortunate, but that is true.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
A lot of people loaded lines. You might imagine Matthew
in Ramona, California.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
What do you think, hey man, how y'all doing great shows?
Hey listen, I'm confident and you know, I'm from a
small town. There's only a handful of Catholic and the
great thing is it brings in everybody. And you know,
the one thing is they didn't have the picture of

(28:36):
the last pope on their wall, and that's well, you know,
we have very conservative parish, small town, you know. But
I think let's let's be confident, let's be happy, let's,
you know, do everything. And like the great Rush Limbaugh

(28:58):
once said, when Larren Thomas was nominated the Supreme Court,
he goes, I'm confident, and gosh started he sure was.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
And y'all do great job, man, Thank you very much.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Joe and Cape Coral, Florida, Joe fire Away.

Speaker 9 (29:18):
Yes, I'm a practicing Catholic. I've been since nineteen forty six,
you want to put it that way. I was never
a favorite of Pope Francis.

Speaker 6 (29:28):
Never liked him.

Speaker 9 (29:29):
I thought he was woke, being American pope. That's good
as long as he keeps the doctrin of the church.
As that one woman said, I don't care about his opinion,
and we don't have to listen to his opinions. He
just must go by the Catholic Church. Biden should have
been excommunicated from the Catholic Church. All of them are scared.
I live in a city that had WGQ Day in

(29:53):
the city, and I asked the priest why the Catholics
here aren't standing up against this stuff? You know, when
they say one thing the opposite. So I'll give this
pope the chance, but I don't care what his opinion is,
like a Republican.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Well and an American which is also pretty cool. But yes,
agree with you, sir on on the you don't have
That's that's why I was saying before X Catherine is
speaking from the throne of Saint Peter.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
That's one thing, right, when you're actually talking about church doctrine,
and any kind of change in that doctrine will be
a major thing. But the church, I mean, the pope
just saying this is what I think about this or
that you can take you can take that or leave it.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
That's not the same.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
Thing as as speaking with the Uh, the full force
of the Church and it's and it's doctrine behind him.
VI p email from Shila. All these opinions on the pope. Oh,
Jesus said, the gates of Hell will not prevail against
his church. Let's just remember there have been good and
bad popes and the church is still going and will
believe Jesus he's in charge. Thank you for your show.

(30:56):
Thank you, Sheila. Yeah, it's an important point. I mean,
you know, we can sit here and talk about the
history of popes, and it has been a colorful thing,
to be sure, especially you go back far enough in time,
it gets really interesting. But the Church will ensures and
is a source of so much goodness and godliness. For
I think it's about a billion four billion five Catholics

(31:17):
around the world.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
So speaking of those Catholics around the world, you are one.
Jd Vance just weighed in. Congrats the Leo the fourteenth,
the first American pope on his election. I'm sure millions
of American Catholics and other Christians will pray for his
successful work leading the church. May God bless him that
in the last minute from Jadie Vance.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Excellent stuff from J.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
Jd Vance doesn't miss you know, as far as I'm concerned,
this guy is a super consistent on saying the right
thing and taking the right position. So yeah, I think
that that's where I am too. I am hoping that
this will be a fantastic pope, will reinvigorate the Catholic
Church in a lot of places around the world where
could really use that more and more. In this country, Clay,

(32:03):
there are young people like twenties thirties who are turning
to the Catholic Church because they realize a society soaked
in weed and alcoholism and selfies and porn everywhere and
all this stuff and trying to be a boss guy
or a boss girl, and materialism is one that has

(32:26):
inherent existential crises for the people that chase that life
and they want structure, they want belief, they want God,
and the Catholic Church is providing that to more and
more young people who are seeking it out. It's one
thing to be born into. I was born into a
very Catholic family. It's another thing, I think for people
as they get older, to say, I seek out this

(32:48):
church and it's because of what it has stood for
for thousands of years.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
We'll come back. We'll take some more of your reactions.
Big major breaking news. Historically, the first American pope officially
introduced in the Vatican City.

Speaker 2 (33:04):
Look in the United States, this.

Speaker 4 (33:07):
Pope went to Villanova, and Villanova actually has given the
New York Knicks many of their best players, and that
is in fact Bucks team and the New York Knicks
went up two to h yesterday on the Boston Celtics
on the road to watched, Yeah, Watch, came back from
twenty point deficit for a second straight time. If you

(33:28):
like NBA Playoff Action, NHL Playoff Action, Underway, and Major
League Baseball. Of course, every single night your favorite team

yours is one of them. It probably is good. Prize

Speaker 2 (34:29):
All right, we're closing up shop today.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
The White Smoke was seen the new pope is picked
has been picked Leo the fourteen, and it is a
it is a holy day for Catholics. A lot of
interesting stuff going on here, and a lot of you
are weighing in on this.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Appreciate all of that.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Of course, let's see Steven Denver wants to talk to us.

Speaker 10 (34:53):
What's going on, Steve, Yeah, Hey, Bark and Clay, Hey,
my son is a priest. He's been a priest for
three years. I'm a devout Catholic. I think it's great.
Remember everything we heard from Francis was through the liberal
media that with this quote Trump all the time. And
I'll tell you, looking at the new seminarians and the
new priests coming out, they're all Lions and they're all Orthodox.
There ain't no Libs among them. I think the church

(35:14):
is in great shape, and I think this will help
church membership in the United States, and I think that's great.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
I agree with that call in general. I'm not Catholic,
but I think that I was just using my son
as an example, who's seventeen. I think a lot of
people just think it's super cool that there is a
pope who is an American. And I don't know how
he's going to do a lot of people weighing in.
But I actually agree with that caller that as a
layperson out here, I think the general vibe I think

(35:43):
jd Vance handled it well, Donald Trump handled it well,
is just Hey, it's awesome to have a pope who
is an American citizen, which most of us thought we
would never see.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Vip, Lynnette. Some of these callers are so pessimistic. I
believe the majority of called of cardinals picked whom the
Holy Spirit and nudge them to pick. I'm ecstatic. Let's
be hopeful and give the man a chance, super fun
time to live through. Please listen to some positive calls.
I am Catholic, and I believe the vast majority are thrilled.
Everyone in my family is, and my friends are. Well, Lynnette,

(36:15):
you're closing up the show today pretty much with that
positive note. As a Catholic and speaking, I'm sure for
so many Catholics it is a wondrous day. And yes,
hopefully this is a pick straight from the mouth, so
to speak, of the Holy Spirit, and we will have
a fantastic leader of the church going forward, and this

(36:36):
is a good thing. We will follow up with more
on this tomorrow, and also a bunch of other stories
today that we had to put on the cutting room
floor that are actually a big deal, like Letitia James
full investigation by the FBI.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
We'll talk more about that tomorrow
