Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. We made it. We made it to a Thursday,
the Thursday NFL opening nights. We'll have it surrounded. Eli
Manning is going to stop buying about fifteen minutes from now.
One of the challenges of making NFL picks is health
is very unpredictable. Last season, Tampa stayed relatively clean through
(00:23):
the Super Bowl. The Chiefs did not, and it costs them.
I like to look at teams. You want to know
what their depth is like. The Rams have a lot
of talent, a lot of superstars, they don't have depth.
And then you have the right quarterback who can overcome injuries.
The Packers start the season without left tackle David baktr
but Aaron Rodgers should be able to work around that.
(00:46):
And there's the old expression sometimes attributed to Yogi Beara,
it's tough to make predictions, especially about the future. I
understand what you're saying, Yogi. I'll make my prediction for
the Super Bowl coming up, and I as well have
been talking about the NFL because we can have an
educated guest lay down some money. But remember it's a
violent sport. Injuries are going to be playing a big
(01:09):
part in this. COVID will play a role in this.
It'll be chaotic more than orderly, and everything that's happening
right now is going to seem like ancient history by
the time we get to that Super Bowl. In February eight,

I'll give you my super Bowl prediction coming up a
(01:31):
little bit later on pull question, play of the day,
stat of the day, all of that coming up. Mcclevin,
let's start with you. What kind of pull question are
you leaning on today? Okay, I'm work shopping this. What
would be the best storyline super Bowl? So if the
NFL could go into the season, pick one matchup they
want to see, starting with how about the Bucks Patriots?
(01:52):
I know that's a bit of a long shot in
the super Bowl. Okay, I also have Cowboys versus Anyone. Yeah,
the Browns making the Super Bowl? Wouldn't that be good? Yeah?
Let me go back to New England. New England Tampa
(02:12):
would be probably as good as it could get. But
they are meeting in week four. Ben you could have
whatever happened there, then you could have the rematch for
the Super Bowl, but I'd probably lean towards that America
loves the Cowboys, or if you can get the Packers
back in there, Aaron Rodgers Redemption Tour. That's the Redemption Tour,
(02:34):
Packers Browns, you know, two Titans from the sixties meeting
in the Super Bowl. The Browns missed out on that
run because the Super Bowl started, you know, later in
the sixties and that's when Green Bay came in and
won the first two. What else, how about like a
Mahomes Rogers passing of the torch kind of thing. Well,
(02:56):
we thought we had that last year with the Brady
Mahomes passing of the George Brady would Leo the Dard torch? Yes, yes,
says he burned the Kansas City Chiefs. Yeah, there's a
lot of interesting matchups. How about the Rams Chargers? Would
that be interesting in La? Yes? Would that be interesting?
Probably be. They might even sell most of the tickets there.

negative on this show. In case you didn't realize the
(03:43):
team that is least interesting this year? How many teams
have no chance? And I'm just saying to make the playoffs,
not win anything, no chance to make, no chance to
make the playoffs. How many teams the Texans have no
chance of going to the playoffs? Zero Jaguars were one
in fifteen. I'm gonna say they have a chance, not
(04:08):
much of one, but they have a chance. Well, you know,
I rail on. You know when when the experts or
the host get you have no chance? Wait, you have
a chance. If you're playing the Texans don't have a chance,
you just yeah, I don't, I know, I know. I'm
gonna say, don't do that. While I do that. Texans
don't have a chance, U Jags, I'm gonna say, I mean,
(04:35):
they don't have much of a chance, but they have hope.
How's that don't have a chance but you have hope? Yes, Seton,
I feel comfortable saying the Carolina Panthers are not whoa Okay,
don't don't put much credibility in Sam Darnold and Christian McCaffrey. No, well,
Pac twelve action there in the backfield, you asked mclen
(04:57):
they have the the Wonder King Matt rule. Though he's
a hot hot coach, hot coach or like good at coaching.
I think he's well thought of. I think a lot
of teams are like, ooh, I wish I had hired
that guy. You know, he would be even more well
thought of if they had Deshaun Watson maybe instead of
Sam Darnold. Maybe. I mean they you know, when you're
you're that great coach, you usually have a great quarterback
(05:20):
with you. We're not quite sure what we're gonna get
out of Sam Darnold here. Yes, points. So the Carolina
Panthers are in the no not interesting but a chance
category because yes, there's no buzz around adding Sam Darnold,
no offense. Yeah, but you still have like they're interesting
for week one because it's Sam Darnold versus the Jets.
After that, maybe not that interesting. Christian McCaffrey is going
(05:43):
to be interesting if he stays healthy, he might lead
the league. You know, in yards from scrimmage, yes, mclum,
but we've seen him do that before. And they win
six games. Oh, I know. Plus, don't get caught with
the man, can they They're gonna win eight games this
year and we think eight eight wins is average, Well,
(06:04):
you're below average this year at eight and nine. Or
if somebody wins ten games, it's not like last year
winning ten games. This year winning ten games is like, okay, Yeah,
I got the most uninteresting team, okay, and it's one
that's traditionally the most interesting. Dadelphia Eagles. No, Las Vegas Raiders.
I think they're interesting to see. I like the skill
(06:27):
position players, but I want to know where they're going,
what direction, because it always feels like that's that's an
eight and nine, a nine and eighteen. Maybe even not
that uh. Gruden always makes them interesting, but if you
had a lot of people talking about them one way
(06:47):
or the other, No, because they're getting lost in the
Chiefs and the Chargers, you know, in their wake, and
I think Denver might be viewed as a more talented
team than the Raiders, maybe a better team. Then then
just feels like there's a lot of eight and nine,
nine and eight this year. Yeah, I m A club
(07:09):
is AFC South Off of this, Paul, They're just like
a given, like every year they're on the least buzzworthy,
least interesting list. No, I think the Colts are interesting
just because of Carson wins that that's a good team.
So interesting for five to six games, Well, it depends
on if Carson Wentz stays healthy. Once again, I hate
adding that caveat, but that's what it is. And now
(07:31):
we add a seventeenth game. What are the odds of
how many quarterbacks are going to play seventeen games this year?
Hard enough to play sixteen? Now we add one more. There,
I would put the Eagles no chance, Lions, no chance.
Whoa whoa, whoa whoapppp. Tony Romo said they are the
(07:51):
surprise team in the NFL. But what is the surprise
nine and eight? Well no, but I'm saying what like
you can be surprised where you go oh my god,
or you can go oh my god. I think he
said no, they're gonna be really good. Oh okay. Tony
Romo said, Zach Wilson's gonna be a top three quarterback
this year. Tony Romo said Sam Darnold is gonna be
the new face of the NFL three years ago, the Lions,
(08:14):
who have an interesting coach, and I think we're curious
to see how Jared Golf does. But I don't see
them making the playoffs. Who else do we throw in there? Yeah?
Point the New York Giants not interesting? But are they threatening? Yes?
In that division you have, Yes, there's caveats with all
of this. Are the Bengals interesting? Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase,
(08:41):
maybe a coach on the hot seat? Are they threatening?
Do they have a chance to make the playoffs? Interesting
or threatening? I'm gonna say, you know, a new segment
on sports Set. I'm you know you're in a tough division,
You're not gonna make the playoffs. But I would still
think they're interest interesting just because did they get the
(09:02):
right guy in Jamar Chase and Joe Burrow coming back
from knee surgery. I find that interesting to keep an on.
What else mcclumb interesting in the train wreck kind of way?
Possibly right, or because you know their whole offensive line
collapse in the preseason. Yeah, they're in trouble. Who is
most likely to be in their last season starting tonight
(09:23):
with Tom Brady big Ben. I'm gonna put New Arizona
Cardinal JJ watt on. There is this kind of like
a last dance question, because the Packers are calling themselves
the last dance. What's the what? And Aaron Rodgers in
Green Bay? Is there anybody you're looking at? Well, this
could be the end, well Rogers the end in green Bay,
but not the end. It's not going to be the
(09:45):
end for Brady. Oh you know, you don't think that's
a possibility for Brady. Yeah, no, And unless he gets injured,
that would be the only way that this would be
the end. Big Ben. I see that now that they
kind of scream eight and nine this year, and then
I'm surprised that, you know, they wanted Ben back. I
(10:10):
thought that they would have gone after a quarterback in
the draft. And look, you know, Mike Tomlin has never
had a losing record, So it's something big if they
go eight and nine this year. But you're in that division.
We expect Baltimore and Cleveland to be very good. Pittsburgh
started out eleven and zero, but I think there are
a lot of people who were going I don't know,
(10:30):
I don't know if they're a undefeated team. And as
we found out, they were not that kind of that
caliber team. You got the t. J. Watt situation as well.
You know, there's there's a little bit of drama thrown
in there. But Mike Tomlin has winning records. Yampo, I
got a note for my guy in Vegas. He said,
the anti Steeler money is some of the biggest money
(10:50):
so far in August. That Steelers to win fewer than
ten games is a big bet. Wait the over under
what the Steelers is ten? I'm gonna check where it
is right now. But he said when the when the
lines went up in August, the anti Steeler money was big.
People are banking on the Steelers to disappoint this year.
I don't see them winning ten games. They're over under
(11:11):
has to be nine for you know, ENTERGA updated eight
and a half. I gotta tell you, I've seen the
over unders tend to fluctuate from book to book, as say, Yeah,
and the money could have pushed it around exactly. Yeah,
they have a new offensive line, right, that's the concerns. Yeah,
I don't I don't like hearing that. You know, if
(11:32):
my team has a new offensive line, that's not always
a good thing. Yeah, But the Chiefs that's like the
what made their whole offseason was their new offensive line.
But they got guys who have played offensive line before
and and and they have at least I mean, Kansas
City made the trade with Baltimore and you know that alone,
(11:55):
that that that's going to shore up your offensive line. Yeah.
But former raven they are like former Braves pitchers. You
ought to stay away. They tend to populate the league
with overprice free agents. It's it's like former Patriot players.
Oh you know t Yeah, Bill calls tag up the photo. Yes, hey,
you're interested in lawyer malloy. Yeah, hey, uh we got
(12:17):
Logan Mankins. All right, on second thought, yes, Paul, Yeah,
Belichick call thinking for one of your players. You resigned
that player immediately because you gotta keep them. And I
would love to hear Bill hype up a player that
you're gonna trade. Uh. Sony Michelle is electric. He can
really do some great things. And wait, so you really
(12:39):
like him? You know, we really like him? Um, coach,
could you speak up a little bit because I can
barely hear you what you're seeing about Sony Michelle? Like,
why should the Rams pick him up? We just think
he's really good. He's he's a very good player, and
I think he'll be a good Clubhounse guy. Yes. Do
you remember when Lawyer Malloy went to the Bills and
the Bills beat them thirty one nothing in the first game,
Everyone was like, oh, the Patriot's screwed up. I think
(13:00):
the Patriots went on to win the Super Bowl that year,
and I don't think the Bills did. Let's take a
break here. Eli Manning will join us. Coming up. They

and co hosting an alternate Monday night football broadcast with
his big brother Peyton, back on the program. Good to
see you, Eli. When's the last time you had a
true fist fight with Peyton? I don't know if Peyton
(14:33):
and I have ever had a true fist fight. You know,
there's been some wedgies given from both sides of us.
That was probably the most recent thing. But you know,
he's five years older than me, so you know, Peyton
and Cooper were two years apart. They definitely had the fights.
Me it was more I was just taking the brunt
of a lot of the harassment being the younger, the
(14:55):
younger child, And so now nowadays we're forty he's forty five,
he kind of knows better not to mess with me anymore.
Who would be more likely to be able to play
in a game this weekend? You or Peyton? I think
I gotta I gotta take that one, you know, I uh,
I think just I saw him throw the other day.
(15:16):
We had we had our our high school football camp
back in July, and it was it wasn't it wasn't
coming out real good. So and that was stilling like
a high school like little ball. So I think you
get that NFL ball. I don't. I don't think he's ready.
How does Brady continue to do it? I have no idea.
It's it's I'm not surprised by it, but it just
(15:39):
I'm still amazed by it. Um and what he was
able to do last year. Uh, you know, changing teams,
a new organization after twenty years, and uh you know,
a new offense, you know, trying to learn that offense
in a shortened off season and still get in there
and create the same results. So you know, I don't
know how he you know, does it himself. But also
(16:02):
how he just convinces the team that they're you know,
they're super Bowl ready and they're a contender. And you know,
wasn't the fastest start. They lost the Week one, he
didn't play great, but you know he just got better
and guys rally around him. The defense played outstanding, and
he's got something where uh, he just has the ability
to lead those those guys to great things. All right,
(16:26):
Now that you're an analyst, I can ask you this,
who's a better quarterback, Tom Brady or Peyton Ooh uh
currently today Tom Brady currently right right? The second? Is
that politically correct? Yes? You know it's one of those
deals you could you could argue this over. You know,
(16:47):
obviously I'm a little biased to my brother because I've
seen it firsthand. Uh, just the way you know, he
just you know, he led that team and made the
players around him so much better. Um. But obviously you
got to look at at Tom's career and just uh,
you know, winning winning championships and that's what he's been
able to do. And you know, um, and so you know,
(17:09):
who had a better, better career you can flip a coin,
or who's a better quarterback? You know, they're both amazing
and you know you'd you'd want any of them on
your team, Uh to lead a franchise for a long time.
Do you wear your Super Bowl rings? I do not.
I have not worn them in a long time. And uh,
(17:30):
you know, they're just they're they're big. And now they're
even getting bigger. I saw the ones from last year.
I mean, you can't even you know, you'd hurt somebody.
If you shake someone's hand, you're a scratch them, You'd
hurt your own hand. They're they're getting too big. I
need like a mini one that maybe I'm gonna wear,
you know, when I brought this up a couple of
months ago. Why not have one that's sort of like
a class ring that allows you to wear it all
(17:51):
the time that you still have that one you put
away in a safety deposit box. How about we start
a business where we come up with wearable Super Bowl rings.
I'm I'm all in. I think this is a this
is a a goal, this is gold Jerry Um, you know,
so I think. I mean, I agree, you can't wear
that thing, and now you're worried you might lose it,
(18:13):
and you know, you take it off, and so I
think I guess getting one you can wear, you know,
like your class ring that Hey we were the champions.
Here's my here's my mini my mini ring. All right,
give me your philosophy. With you and Peyton doing Monday
Night the the alternate Monday Night broadcast, what's the game plan?
Game plan is this? Hey, we're we're on our couches
(18:35):
in our living room watching Monday Night football together. We
haven't we haven't done that in probably twenty five years,
watched the Monday night football game, uh together and you know,
he'll be in Denver, I'll be in New Jersey, but
we're still watching the same game. We're talking. We're telling
old stories either about those teams or playing in this
in that stadium, or just all of a sudden, we
(18:57):
hear certain words being called in the game, or we
see a play and we have a story. So it's
very casual, it's very just uh, you know, just having fun.
We'll get to really analyze some of the plays and
talk them through, but then we'll also skip over you
know a lot of you know, runs for two yards,
Like we don't need to discuss who is carrying the
ball for that two yard run and what happened so
(19:18):
we'll we'll bring some guests in there, uh to have
some conversations, and so it's just it should be a
fun way to watch a football game and learn a
little bit about kind of behind the scenes of playing quarterback,
being in the NFL and what's going on in the huddle,
what's going on on the sideline, what are they looking
at when they see the tablet, what's that offensive coordinator
(19:40):
you know, yelling at that guy? What you know? What
did he do? Role? And what's going on in all
these situations. Talking to Eli Manning won two Super Bowls.
Of course with the Giants. You once threw I think
six picks against the Chargers. That don't sound I think
that's Peyton Peyton did oh oh, sorry about that. Um,
(20:01):
how would you as an analyst look at that performance.
Let's say it. Let's take away to say, I did it. Yeah,
I threw I think I think my most is four. No,
But let's say you're an analyst watching a performance where
somebody throws six interceptions. You know, every every interception has
a story, and you can you can have an excuse.
(20:22):
The thing is nobody really wants to hear the story.
You know, the coaches don't want to hear it. Uh,
you know, there's always receiver and the wrong route. There's
always this ball good tip. They you know, uh, you
know we're down. I'm trying to force something. So everyone
has a story. Uh, no one really wants to hear it.
And you know it's Uh. Sometimes they're just they're just contagious.
(20:45):
You know, interceptions can be contagious. You start throwing one,
you start thinking, hey, whatever you do, just don't throw
another interception. And once you start thinking that way, they
just keeping It's like you can't you can't help it.
They just you know, uh, something bad is about to
happen and you just can't pull it back. Yeah. I
came up with a stat called shared Blame Interceptions SBI.
(21:06):
That way, you know, after the game, the receiver can
say that's on me, it shouldn't be on you. Before
I never say that. They've never they've never said that,
it's never happened before. Before I get to your plug
with Verizon, Derek Jeter going into the Hall of Fame,
you of course spent your career there in New York.
How did you know you were wired to be able
(21:28):
to deal with New York Coming from New Orleans. You know,
I didn't know. I think, you know, I think I
do have a little bit more of a kind of
a laid back personality where, you know, things don't don't
always bother me. If someone says something bad about me,
you know, I don't. I don't take offense to it.
I don't. I don't hold grudges. It's not going to
(21:48):
ruin my day. Um, you know. So, I think just
the ability to kind of handled that New York media
I give. I give Peyton and Cooper a lot of
credit for them just beating up on me all the
time when I was growing up, and they said, if
you tell anybody, or you complain or you tell mom,
We're gonna make it worse the next time. So I
just said I was not allowed to complain or cry
(22:10):
or say anything about it. So I could just easily
just forget about it. I move on and I'd see
him the next day. And after they just gave me
an atomic weggie and and and or pulled down my
pants in front of you know, a bunch of girls,
I just you know, I could still love them the
next day and be happy and and just be okay
in any situation I was in and I think that's
kind of prepared me for the New York media and
(22:31):
the New York and dealing with the ups and downs,
kind of never getting too high, never getting too low.
They pulled your pants down in front of girls. Yeah,
Marty girl, Marty girl. You know, I'm I'm like, hands up,
brought me something, miss there. You know, it's just a
perfect situation just to come behind and get the get
the pants down. I'm in some you know, old school
(22:54):
tidy whities, you know, not a good look. What are
you doing with Verizon? Yeah, I've got the Verizon five
G multiviews. So Verizon does a great job of just
the innovation, the technology during games at the stadium. So
they're in They're in seven different stadiums this year, they're
(23:15):
in bet Life. So for Giants games. I'm going to
the Giants game this Sunday, be in person. And so
if you log into the Giants app, they have the
Verizon multiview where you have seven different camera angles where
you can watch replays, you can watch the game. You
can see you know, hey, is this guy in on
the sideline and did the ball cross the goal line
to get that touchdown? So you don't have to wait
(23:37):
on the Jumbo trime for the for the replay. You
can be right there on your phone within that app
and kind of get all the cool angles. You can
be right on the quarterback whatever. How are you going
to watch it? So this is creating that in game
experience at while you're at the game, to give you
all that technology and features to even enjoy it more.
(23:57):
Are you wearing your jersey to the game? I was
thinking about that. I I was, I was, you know,
just this morning, I was like, what am I gonna
wear to the games? I mean, everybody not wears jerseys,
So I wear my own jersey. They were a stake
law jersey. You know, I don't. I don't know. Nobody
would think that Eli was wearing his own jersey. I've
I've I've often thought about that, But when you are
(24:19):
then it looks weird. Backfire, you know, they're like, no,
that's definitely him. And you get busted wearing your own jersey.
Then it's like what why what is he doing wear
his own jersey? But I have thoughts, It's like, yeah, no, one,
he's not gonna wear his own jersey. It can't be him.
We'll leave him alone. Good luck with Verizon and good
luck on Monday night. Great to talk to you again, Eli,
(24:40):
Thank you always, Dan, good good being with you pal.
That's Eli Manning courtesy a Verizon. You know when they
stopped playing, they have a better sense of humor and
you got a great job there Monday night with your
brother back and forth. Just have a little bit of fun.
Can you watch as just a fan or are you
(25:01):
going to process this as a former quarterback. I don't
think that Peyton could watch a game without dissecting things. Plus,
you know, we make the mistake. I've made this mistake before.
In fact, I remember talking to Troy Aikman when Troy
Aikman was going to go into the booth with Joe
Buck and I said, are you ready to be critical
of players? And he gave a great answer because he said, well,
(25:24):
it's not. You know, you're criticizing as much as you're analyzing.
And there's a difference in that because we can critique
somebody else can critique. But sometimes you'll get the analyst
who points out everything that's involved in it and analyzes that,
and he's going to get to these moments where somebody's
going to have a bad game, but he might focus
(25:46):
on the person who's having a good game as a
result of you having a bad game. If you throw
FOREI interceptions, are you then going to compliment the defensive rush.
Are you going to compliment the defensive back? It might
not be as critical as it is analytical. And this
is what and I've made this mistake before with guys
getting into broadcasting. Are you able to say something? And
(26:10):
I said this to Tony Dungee and Rodney Harrison, and
looking back, I probably shouldn't have. It's just analyze the game.
Now you're going to be accused of being critical, but
just analyze the game. And if you go into that approach,
then you'll look at it and you'll be honest with
what you see instead of saying, boy, how's this going
to be perceived? You can't play favorites. And Rodney would
(26:33):
be critical of the Patriots. And you know there were
times when I would press Tony Dungee about Peyton Manning
and these are really good teams that are playing. But
you know that Peyton and Eli are going to be
fine because they're going to be together talking about it.
If I'm hosting with them, I would be pushing them
(26:53):
a little bit more. Probably the reason why I'm not
hosting the alternate Monday Night football fact that I don't
work at ESPN as well. But I think it's interesting
that this is This is something I propose to Amazon
last year, not with Peyton and Eli, but can you
get just two players former players and you just sit
(27:16):
around and you just watch the game, but you have
somebody who sort of is the you know, traffic cop
there and you know, it never got far with that.
I'm not sure what Amazon's doing on Thursday nights once
they take over from Fox, but that was something that
I proposed. Can you get guys in a relaxed situation
(27:36):
who will just talk to you and I know that
ESPN does the Mega cast and you have you know,
former coaches in there. I wanted players with players and
I stay out of the way. All you do is
basically roll out the ball and go all right, you
guys playing and let me know when you need me.
And that was something that I thought could work on
(27:56):
Thursday nights with Amazon, but Monday Night with these two
and then they'll have guests that will be in there,
and I think it'll be it'll be a great listen
in particular because of Peyton. I think that he will
provide that insight. I'm always curious why Eli never got
an omaha omaha. He didn't have one at least I
(28:18):
can't remember Eli with an omaha omaha. But you know,
Peyton kind of cornered the market on omaha omaha. And
then occasionally you get Roethlisberger would say something that was
kind of funny from a TV show or a movie.
Aaron Rodgers would do that as well. Yeah, McLevin. Eli's
jersey conundrum is interesting. Can you wear your own jersey? Like?
(28:39):
What is? What does he wear to the Giant? I
think it would be funny that you do it, But
but he might want to separate from the Giants to
be an analyst if he cares about that. But it
would be pretty funny. If you're there for the first game,
you can go as a fan, you wear your Giant's jersey. Yeah, Paul,
I'm really looking forward to Eli and Peyton during a
blowout game. If it's thirty five zero at half and
(29:00):
there's nothing there's games, you may switch to them and
they may just start telling story. Yeah, because there's nothing
to analyze. Sometimes even with Sunday Night football when when
there's a blow out. There's a couple of years there's
a blow and al Michaels just started telling old stories
with Collinsworth and they filled an entire second half with
good stories that could be good. Yeah, And I think
if you have sort of a rolodex that you can go, oh,
(29:21):
you know, remember that time you guys were losing twenty
eight to nothing, and then you start talking about what
you're talking about during the game in that situation, or
what that means that team might be thinking about, or
what that coach might be thinking, and they're going to
have so many the treasure trove of stories. The question
is how much do you want to reveal. That's always
(29:44):
the tricky part because Eli usually didn't say much. Peyton would.
But it feels like Eli's coming out of that shell.
And if you're around them, and I've been around them before,
you know Eli's sort of a sneaky assassin. Peyton is funny.
I mean, Peyton comes in and he's gonna he'll be
(30:08):
the hammer. But I also think that if you have
the willingness to tell stories and they're you know, self
deprecating stories, always play like you don't want to say,
you know that time that I threw remember when I
beat Brady in the Super Bowl. It's when you talk
about you had doubts. Uh. He was just talking about,
you know, golingda Marty Groan having his hands up to
(30:29):
catch something and his brother's pull his pants down. That's
a story that we love, yes, Ton, But if you
have if you're telling stories outside of the family, you're
just other things. You are also wondering the back of
your mind, was this am I talking out of school?
Is this something that was told to me in confidence?
And you're trying to remember I got this great story,
But is this is going to somehow embarrass or a
fend a former teammate or something. Thank you, Tod, all right,
(30:52):
what's a pull question today? Iman club? We haven't decided officially.
Is is it fair to do the least buzzworthy team
slash player or does that mean because um I also,
I think, despite what you guys said, I think Teddy
Bridgewater has to go on there because nobody is excited
to see Teddy Bridgewater start for the dever Broncos. Probably,
so would you rather be a team with no chance
(31:18):
but still be interesting? Because the Texans aren't interesting. They're
only interesting if Deshaun Watson plays and they have no
chance of making the playoffs. Yes, like compared to the
Jaguars have a low wind total, But it's okay. They're interesting.
How about the Lions. They have Dan Campbell, They're kind
of interesting. I mean, you don't tune in to watch
(31:39):
a coach very often. Dan Campbell's good during the week.
I don't know what he's gonna do. I mean, if
he's is he biting kneecaps on the field during a
game you're not suiting up? Is Jared Goff? The story
is interesting. I don't know if watching Jared Goff is
going to be interesting. There's a difference in that. The
Giants to me are interesting because of Daniel Jones and
(32:01):
say Quon Barkley. I don't know if they're going to
be any good, but they do have some storylines there. Yeah,
mcclub Daniel Jones interesting in the same sentence, well, interesting
is he tripping on the fifteen yard? The situation is
interesting because this is where you decide if you want
(32:22):
to keep that quarterback or you move on and you wasted.
If that's the case, you wasted a big number on
that draft pick. Yeah, pull Daniel Jones. By the way,
I checked, his nickname is Dan. His buddies called him Dan.
We're no like horsing around back home? Is he the
NBA's Joe Johnson in a weird way? I root for
(32:43):
Daniel Jones to have some type of up spike in
his career so he don't just talk about him tripping
on that run. Like Gus Farrat had a decent career,
but the headbut is his Oh yeah, or Loafsky's got
the end zone thing and he's got a very successful career.
But Daniel Jones needs some moments. How many guys, Okay,
you just brought up two great ones. Orlovsky has has
(33:03):
carved out a great career with the Mothership. Gus far
Rott scored a touchdown and then got injured with headbutting
the side of the stadium. He heard his neck. Daniel
Jones is the guy who tripped. Is there's somebody else
who comes up? Jim Marshall who played for the Vikings.
(33:24):
He ran the wrong way, but he was a Hall
of Famer Leon Lett Leon Lett, but Leon went to
the Pro Bowl a couple of times, but it doesn't matter.
It's leon Lett and the fumble. Actually leon Lett had
two of them, didn't he have on Thanksgiving where he
you know, the balls rolling around, you're not supposed to
(33:44):
touch it, and then he went to try to pick
it up. And yeah, on this stune and then the
Super Bowl where Don beebe chases him down from behind
and he doesn't score a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Yeah,
pulling Gus for out the quarterback. He was in the
league for fourteen years. He had one hundred starts. It
wasn't like he was there for ten minutes. He had
one hundred and fourteen career touchdowns. He actually made a
(34:06):
Pro Bowl one year. But if you google his name,
what's the first video that comes up. Yes, mcleven I'll
give you another one that's not fair. Jackie Smith a
tight ender. I know the Super Bowl drop right, Yeah,
the Cowboys against Steelers and he had a touch you know,
they were coming back I think Roger Staubach, they were
coming back against the Steelers and Jackie Smith, hall of Famer,
(34:28):
spent you know, most of his career with the Saint
Louis Cardinals and he dropped it. Yeah. McLellan Well is
he I don't remember that. Well, there wasn't there a
Dolphins kicker who fumbled something in the Super Bowl? Oh,
your Premian who is a Hall of Famer too, I
think he don't think of Oh he wasn't. He was
famous though, and he had one of the worst Super
Bowl plays of all time. Well, that was a horrible
super Bowl. I think the fourteen seven Mike Bass I
(34:51):
think picked up the fumble and scored the touchdown. You
know Mark Sanchez known for the butt fumble, and he
went to the AFC title game a couple of times.
A couple a couple times. If you think of other
ones sent them out on Twitter to us. But somebody,
when you say their name, they're known for one thing.
(35:12):
When we come back, the Washington football team is going
to change it's nickname. We don't know when, but we
learned earlier this morning that they're going to reveal a
new name. They have about seven or eight names now
they're going to narrow that down and basically judge public sentiment. Here,
(35:32):
I'm going to tell you the no brainer. I'm going
to tell you the names that they can't go with,
but I can tell you the one that they should
play of the day is up next here on the
Dan Patrick Show. Make sure you go to rockauto dot
com all the parts your car, truck, whatever need. Pauli
recently went to rockauto dot com. He found something that
he couldn't find any place else, And I said, why
did you go anyplace else when you knew it was
(35:53):
right there at Rockauto dot Com. Sometimes these guys don't
listen to me. Polities all right, accepted family business out
of my automotive engineers in nineteen ninety nine. Two goals
in mind. First giving Pauli direct access to all the
parts information hidden in the computers and catalogs behind the
part store counter, and second, to make the parts affordable
for Paully by offering reliably low prices. Rockauto dot com
(36:15):
has the correct parts for vehicles of all ages. A
vehicle that turns the engine off at every stoplight or
has the battery installed in the trunk needs a modern
AGM battery like those at Rockauto dot com. Yes, even
car batteries delivered right to your door. And that means
you don't waste time and money hunting for the parts, phoning, driving,
waiting in lines. Go to rocauto dot com, right, Dan

(38:27):
Jamar Chase says, the NFL football is harder to catch
than the college football. It's harder to see without white stripes.
I understand it, but we just started to figure this out.
I'm going to guess there are other wide receivers who've
come from college and been successful in the NFL? Is
(38:48):
that right, PAULI? Okay, all right. During the live looking
we talked about the Washington football team going to change
their nickname. I stay with Washington's Washington football team. I
think it's it sounds good regal. I mean, we've gotten
past the Wow, that's kind of awkward. It's just Washington
(39:10):
football team, and I like the logo. Here are the names,
the possible names. Red Hogs defenders are Mada Washington football team,
red Wolves, presidents, brigade commanders. What will they go with?
(39:34):
What should they go with? Let's talk about what they
should avoid? Red Hogs? Now we're past the hogs, all right,
that was a long time ago. Defenders Okay, what if
you don't have a good defense or what about your offense?
(39:55):
Who are the defenders? Okay? Are Mada Washington football team.
That's the one I would go with. Red Wolves, man presidents,
no commanders, No, The obvious answer is the Washington football Brigade.
(40:16):
That's what I would go with, unless you stay with
Washington football team, which I would. I think they're gonna
go with brigade and they should go with the brigade
unless they stay with the Washington football team. Ya ton,
I don't love brigote. I didn't like any of them,
but if I had to pick one, I would say,
Defenders only because you're in the Capitol and you're defending
(40:39):
the nation, and I understand that there's gonna be a
lot of plays on words if your defense is terrible.
But I don't know. I think Washington Defenders. I could
live with that of that group of names. All right, McLevin,
how about Gridlock Washington? You know what I'm saying. For now,
I'm just kidding. Um. I like Washington football team. Like
you said, I think that's kind of cool and unique
and they should just stick with it. Okay, Brigade's awesome
(41:00):
that I would like that, but watching football team be
my number one? All right, Seaton, This is funny because
no matter what they choose, it's going to be the
wrong one for a large portion of the population. Right.
I do like Brigade though, that's the one out of
that list, that's the one that stood out to me.
But I would also prefer they just stay with Watchington
football team, Polly. I think they will go with Armada.
(41:23):
It's very generic, it doesn't make people upset or excited.
It's very milk toast, and that's why they'll probably go
with it. I like commanders because I like calling people
commander like, hey, what's up, commander. I know Polly at
ESPN famously didn't know anybody's name. There's lots of people
walk around the halls. Didn't even go hey chief, hey commander,
he sport, what's up, hey, Sport? Yeah. I think he
(41:46):
referred to you as what did he call you, Seaton
first couple of months commander, commander? And then after I
knew after I like truly knew him, he was just
like just one day like this offhanded comment was like,
you know what I like to do for like people
that like I don't really have any respect for or
any I just give them like a title that's like
way above what they really are, like commander or something. Okay, boss,
(42:06):
all right, thanks, thanks bos, thanks both. We're back with

joins us Hi Chad, what's on your mind today? Ali?
Damn first time long time five ten as saw all
(42:50):
those Washington football team names are not good. Wanting a
wig in on Elive versus Pain. I believe Eli get
things solely based on those two super Bowls in spite
of his stats. Both Eli and Peyton have those squeaky
clean images. But the one thing I think Elis got
working for him, he didn't have as many off field
(43:11):
that shoes like Peyton did, with a trainer at UT
and the H eight that was sun to Peyton's wife,
I'll hang up and listen. Hey, well, thank you. Chat. Well,
I'm not I'm not breaking down their careers. I mean,
I'm just talking about them and going into Monday night
as analyst here. Not whose career would I want? I
(43:31):
was talking about Peyton versus Tom Brady because hey, I'm
trying to get a headline here out of the interview
where he says I'd take Tom Brady over my brother.
That was it. It's not who had a better career.
Peyton had a better career, but Eli got those two wins.
When you do it in New York there, there's nothing
(43:52):
like it. There's no other place. If you do it there,
you got legendary status. All right. Coming up next hour,
Derek Jeter calls out the one voter who didn't vote
for him. If I'm Derek Jeter and I don't want
to bring more attention to being labeled overrated, I don't
think i'd do that. Talk about that. We'll check in
(44:12):
with the Buccaneers and the Cowboys. One more items we
close out an hour. One. Summer's coming to an end.
It's important that everybody get plenty of sleep, not just you,
but the kids going back to school. And some tips
for you parents. Keep their rooms cool somewhere between sixty
five sixty eight degrees. Maybe use a fan or white
noise machine. Or I like to have Todd tell me
(44:34):
about the Denver Broncos possibilities of winning the AFC. West Man,
Can he put you to sleep? Doesn't take that long,
it's really not necessarily know. And then we talk about
Teddy Bridgewater and you know Von Miller. I'm like, oh,
you're sleeping on the Broncos. That's the problem. I see it.
